Starting a new thing called MMWTs aka Merrow’s Miscellaneous Writing Tips where I either dissect something in depth and add to it whenever I feel like it or I quickly yell about something without much elaboration and then I leave. We’ll see

And don’t be surprised if these are 1) harsh and mostly me ranting or 2) a lot of them are on romance coding/attraction because that happens to be one of my areas of knowledge

Anyway here we go

MMWT #1: if you’re gonna make two characters get together in a story then don’t make me look for signs that they like each other. Don’t make me hunt down and connect all the dots UNLESS the point is that it’s subtle and can only be caught on the next read (or watch, this goes for shows too) or the point is that it’s sudden and out of nowhere (which will often be followed up with them doubting or questioning the relationship or thinking back on it). I should be able to tell just by watching them or when it’s pointed out, my reaction should be “oh yeah you’re right.” I know that half of any fandom will take anything they’re handed (or they’ll make it up because their standards for ships are very low and they can find romance in a fucking rock)

One example that easily comes to mind for me is Hunter and Willow from The Owl House. I suppose some of their interactions COULD be romance coded but compared to Luz and Amity’s romance coding, it’s fucking weak and I’m not shipping that shit until I see some REAL evidence. Blushing ≠ attraction, people show interest in many ways and Hunter in particular blushes at all sorts of random stuff. He’s easily embarrassed. And Willow is a nice person in general. If the writers want me to believe that they like each other, they’re gonna have to put some more stuff there that makes me believe those reaction/feelings are specific towards those people and not just Willow being nice to someone because she’s Willow or Hunter blushing nat something because he’s Hunter. (The hair cutting scene is as close as we’ve gotten to something specific and even that could be dismissed easily). I’d be willing to ship them if I saw something stronger than everything that’s gone on so far

Tldr if you’re coding for two characters liking each other, don’t make me hunt the evidence down. It should be fairly easy to pick up on

This is my first semi-writing post lmao, I write for a lot of creepypastas, so they'll all be listed here. I will say that this is for my main fic that I'm working on and has yet to be posted, so they can change from fic to fic or one shot to one shot. For any requests, they don't have to follow my headcanon.

heyo, enchant over here! i’m a writer who writes original stuff and fanfics! it’s been a long while since my previous re-intro, and i decided for a new one. just the same basics, just a new post.^^

i’m a hybrid sort of writeblr and a semi-fandom blog. however, i tag appropriately as much as possible. whether it’s salty or positive. i try writing as much as i can! yet i also take breaks when necessary. my motto in general about storytelling is: write what you want to read. and i write any concept stuck in my mind.

my main fandoms are adaptations of marvel comics and dc comics. a big fan of characters who don’t get enough appreciation (whether from fandom or canon). i love canon divergence and AUs bc it gives me more freedom. i enjoy them yet i’m also aware of their problems especially with the former.

top-tier tropes to me are: chaotic found family, enemies to friends to lovers, subverted expectations, reluctant allies to best friends to lovers, exhausted™ protagonists, strong friendships, find recovery after all the pain, morally grey characters, and self-discovery.^^

Blasted Scorn: A group of pirates somewhat succeed in their latest quest, only for knights to be their accidental stowaways. They’re assigned to search for a missing princess who’s been captured. Dread Pirate Titanarin strikes a deal with them in exchange for valuables. Along the way and dozens of broken bones, this team contemplates on whether this was their worst decision or not.

True Devotion that Remains Constant: A ballet dancer encounters difficulties while trying to find her own path. A painter is only trying to thrive after escaping a difficult situation. An awkward circumstance leads them to meet in college where they slowly learn about each other.

Lines of A Script to Ignore: An unemployed graduate struggles on getting a job as she adjusts from getting back from abroad. A scriptwriter slash theatre actor seeks to share her story while dealing with setbacks. They reconnect as they see each other, forming a bargain that’ll provide help for both of them.

Some random creepypasta headcanons except its just me hardcore projecting the whole time

Toby has facial tics where he’ll push in hard on his nose and it’s constantly red & sore because of that. He also has sensory problems with sounds that have to do with the tip of the tongue, and he’ll avoid using those sounds in conversations as much as possible.

Nina has so much energy that it’s really hard for her to get to sleep; it’s physically painful not to be moving and so she has like 4 weighted blankets on her bed to help suppress that feeling.

Nina’s also aroace. She was in denial for a long time, and when her obsession with Jeff came she tried to convince herself it was romantic feelings, but all that did was make her extremely uncomfortable. Nina eventually learned to accept herself for who she was, and stopped trying to force feelings for people.

Jeff uses his headphones 25/8, he’s constantly listening to music he’s gonna go deaf one day. He also gets really cocky whenever he’s doing something he’s good at, and that can cause him to slip up a lot from being overconfident.

Eyeless Jack had a really bad nose before he was turned into a demon. Like I’m talking he could be sprayed by a skunk and barely be bothered. Now that he’s half demon he can smell EVERYTHING, which he really wasn’t used to for quite some time.

Clockwork sleeps in late a lot no matter how hard she tries not to. Like she’ll set 8 separate reminders at max volume to get her ass outta bed and she sleeps through every damn one.

Jane is really self conscious of her face & hair. She’s always wearing her mask, only takes it off in front of people she fully trusts Clocky is the only person who’s ever seen Jane without it and what’s left of her hair is covered up by a wig.

Kate really doesn’t like to talk to people that much, when she does she acts very timid even if she doesn’t feel timid. When she’s talking with people she knows well however, she’s the most excitable mf in the room

The Bloody Painter is a massive perfectionist when it comes to his art; he’ll redo the most minuscule details over and over trying to get it right. Usually ends up just messing the whole thing up in the process.

Laughing Jack doesn’t feel emotions very well. He’s very numb inside, and often wonders what emotions feel like. He tried asking people how certain emotions felt, but no one would give him a clear answer which frustrated him quite a bit.

Since Sally died, she didn’t get to have much of a relationship with her family anymore. Because of this, she latches onto anyone who reminds her of a parental figure in the slightest.
