Aquabats concert highlights:
The little kid in front of me in the merch line dancing to the Aggrolites
The Aggrolites playing a song they wrote for Yo Gabba Gabba!!
The other people next to me saying that they walked the aisle to Lovers of Loving Love
The person wearing what I can only describe as a cargo skirt (it was awesome)
The people wearing cadet uniforms, including the two ppl who made their own helmets and the person dressed in a neon green rash guard from Return
MCBC playing guitar for the first few songs!
The MCBC threw confetti on the audience and joked about the colors being right ("Man I'm glad that confetti was green and white! Imagine if it had been purple and gold")
I SWEAR the MCBC went up and stroked Crash's beard
Jimmy acting like a zombie during Fashion Zombies
The Commander asked ppl to clasp hands and I held hands with a total stranger. Shout out to that guy
The other person next to me who was skanking the entire night
I caught one of the pool floaties they threw at the audience!!
They started playing Chemical Bomb and I freaked out
Someone held up a sign that asked them to play happy birthday for their brother and they actually played it!! I hope someone got that on camera
Somebody else made their own Floating Eye of Death helmet, and the Commander pointed it out and showed it off on stage!!
The Commander christened Boston as the official East Coast town of the Aquabats (I hope he didn't say that to the last show they played in NY)
Gorney!!! He made a bad joke and the MCBC was like "this is Gorney's first and last show, guys"
A guy in a Grimace costume came on stage during Pool Party??? Like from mcdonalds????

The Slackers are a confident number 1
Rancid, The Aggrolites, and Dancehall Crashers (this concludes the Tim Armstrong portion of this list)(he's a local, it only makes sense) Operation Ivy is an honorable mention here, but they only had the one album
Finally probably is Green Day (another local band) with another honorable mention for Metallica and the album "short music for short people" from fat mike's label. There was another band I can't remember that took up a big chunk of my listening time. Also maybe the Abi YoYo's
Tumblr media
mine would probs be: one direction, taylor swift, ed sheeran, the script and coldplay

The Aggrolites @ Ogden Theatre- Denver 7/27
Tumblr media
Art by Paula Beltran Review by Santiago Beltran Los Angeles based quintet The Aggrolites graced Denver’s presence for the first time in a half decade this July, exhibiting their excitement to be back in what they call “one of our favorite spots”. Supporting The Aquabats, this opening set was packed to the brim with audience participation and uproarious energy seldom seen from an opening act. Cathartic frequencies fill the room when the soulful yet fiery vocal style of Jesse Wagner and throwback organist Roger Rivas coalesce. Their sound is a very nostalgic one- a time capsule harkening back to vintage rocksteady ska from the 60’s.
This short but sweet song selection included the opener ‘Funky Fire’, from their landmark ‘06 self titled album - as well as the trademark ‘Countryman Fiddle’, ‘Mr Misery’ and the absolutely glorious oldie ‘Dirty Reggae’. Showcasing their sublime brand of soul and funk- laced reggae is something that comes all too easy for these cats. The world needs a constant reminder of what roots reggae truly used to sound like, and this is the band to do it. Dont keep us waiting for the next headlining tour , y’all.

The Aquabats!/The Aggrolites/Lost Again @ The Roxian Theater (Pgh) 07/08/2024
So, it’s been a long time since I have been to a punk rock show… or really any kind of show or concert. It’s been even longer since I was a regular attendee or participant in such shenanigans. I got the opportunity to take my son to his 1st ever punk rock show on Monday at The Roxian (a place I have never been), and we had a blast watching Left Alone, The Aggrolites, & The Aquabats! Left Alone…

Thoughts at 630pm...
It's good to be back home!
Today I decided to do something I knew my amazing partner W would love.... we took a drive down PCH to see the beach and the boats and all the sites!
There's something special about driving down PCH listening to local bands like Bad Religion, the Beach Boys, the Aggrolites, and more. Even Cake's Sheep go to Heaven mentions the Sunset Strip!
No one sings about where we were the last few years because there's nothing to sing about. It's just dirt and 120 degrees at 9am. Here it's cool, the dirt is only next to the vast ocean, and there's so much to see and do and not be around other people because covid is still a fucking thing!

-Didn’t see live, but was in the vicinity or interacted-
I was at a record signing for the Pretenders at Licorice Pizza at La Cumbre Mall in Santa Barbara and met the band when I was 10 months old or so. I don’t remember it, but Chrissie said I was going to be a drummer. I guess I was banging on the table.
Should have been at the Where The Streets Have No Name video shoot, but U2 started early thanks to the LAPD and I missed it by an hour. People were still hanging out at the corner in downtown LA when I got there. Eventually got around to seeing U2.
I had an email exchange with Brian Kehew of The Moog Cookbook sometime around 1999.
I camped at the next campsite over from Gyl Bonus, guitar player for The B Foundation. I haven’t seen them live, but I hear it’s a great show.
I had a ticket to see Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes with Fu Manchu in Irvine in 2000, but Jimmy cancelled the tour. Technically, I have seen both bands, so this should not be in this section.
Was invited to the recording of the live section of the “Enemies” EP by Frank Jordan, but I had to work my shift at Kmart. I should have gone.
A friend offered to give me his ticket and could have made it to the last half of a Pearl Jam concert in Irvine, but was too lazy. I should have gone.
Back to Santa Barbara, Bob Marley & the Wailers played a concert and I was in the same city at the same time but I was 3 months old or some shit. I wish I could have gone and been capable of enjoying it.
I was in close proximity to Johnny Halliday and his wife when they arrived at LAX a few years ago. Johnny was known as the “French Elvis”. There was a good amount of paparazzi, so I may be in the background of a picture in a French tabloid.
Met the band Spacetrucker at the Sky Valley sign on their tour which included Stoned and Dusted the next day. They gave me a free copy of their first album and the whole experience was amazing and magical.
Have been the presence of Dandy Brown, Jesika Von Rabbit and Lee Joseph in Palm Springs, and Arthur Seay at the Sky Valley sign.
I am friends with the drummer of Overwhelming Colorfast, of which Weezer once opened for, and who opened for The Ramones.
I am considered family by extremely close family friends of which one was the drummer for Out Vile Jelly and Idaho, and also made some great songs under the name twodoggarage.
