Willy Wonka and Lego Dimensions! 🍫🎩🏭
@321spongebolt and I have talked a lot about this, so here we go!
(Disclaimer! I've unfortunately never played LEGO dimensions, instead I have to look things up online, so please excuse me if it seems like I don't know precisely how things work. Because I don't. I have however played LEGO Batman 2 DC superheroes, and Lego the Hobbit, so I'll also be drawing from my experiences with those a lot. 🤪)
I love this idea and I want it to happen. Here are my suggestions. 😁
There's a lot under here just so you know.
I like the idea of including the whole tour group. Willy Wonka of course, plus all the kids and an Oompa-loompa for good measure (for the sake of fun I'll call them Ginger).
Willy Wonka could use his cane as a sword for a melee weapon and he could throw exploding candy for your enemies as a ranged weapon that could destory silver bricks. I think I like the round-truffle-cartoon-bomb better than the licorice dynamite design. A lit fuse or a clock is good because that's how we know when it goes off, but it's not a must-have. He could throw his cane into a wall and then swing on it (pole vault), solve matching puzzles (intelligence), and use control panels (technology). His featured vehicles would include the great glass elevator, the boiled-sweet boat, and the Wonka-mobile. The Wonka-mobile could shoot lavender-colored venom, but maybe that's a bit much.
The kids can be their own characters with their own abilities.
Charlie could have the fizzy-lifting-drink flight mentioned in the original post (flight), throw newspapers or Wonka bars (boomerang) and since he's Wonka's apprentice he could solve the same kinds of matching puzzles (intelligence).
Augustus could function like sandman or clayface, turning into liquid chocolate to transform (shapeshift) or slip through vents or something (slurp access).
Violet could control her blueberry transformation, similar to the hulk, and this would give her more strength, a smashing attack, and she'd be able to move faster by rolling on her side, maybe she could use gyrosphere switches (big transformation, gyrosphere).
Veruca could scream loud enough to break glass like the original post said (sonar smash), and maybe she could throw garbage at people or imitate a squirrel burying a nut, idk (dig).
Mike would be the only kid with guns (target) as well as the shrink ability and maybe he could hack stuff (hacking).
Ginger the Oompa-loompa could have a wrench that they use as a weapon. They'd be able to fix things (fix-it) and do acrobatics by throwing their wrench maybe (pole vault).
All of the children and Ginger would have access to mini hatches (mini access).
Each member of the group would be able to change into different versions of themselves like doctor who. The book versions, the 1971 film, the 2005 film, and the west end musical (my favorite).
Wonka's idle animations could be a somersault like Gene Wilder did, or he could do a little dance or do a maniacal laugh or play around with his hat and cane.
The kids' idle animations could be variations on them finding their golden ticket. Charlie pulls out a Wonka bar and is very hesitant in opening it, when he finds it he jumps for joy and runs in a circle. Augustus eats a Wonka bar before sticking his tongue out and pulling out the ticket. Violet has a pack of gum in one hand and a Wonka bar in the other, after thinking about it she chooses the Wonka bar, finds the ticket and strikes a victorious pose. Veruca pulls out an entire pile of Wonka bars, dives in and resurfaces with the ticket. Mike types on his phone and a purple air drone with a W on it delivers a Wonka bar, Mike examines it, opens it and finds the ticket before firing his guns in celebration.
Ginger the Oompa-loompa's idle animation would be the Oompa-loompa dance, naturally.
The Wonka prequel film could be a dlc (thanks 321spongebolt)! This means new characters! Noodle could fly using the balloons (flight). Lofty the Oompa-loompa could show up with his gadgets, maybe his wing-jet-pack (glide). The chocolate cartel would also be there, idk what abilities they'd have. 🤷‍♀️
There could be puddles of chocolate all over a level, like acid in Lego Batman, and it would need the hazard cleanup ability.
Doctor who might be able to access the dlc Wonka world via the TARDIS, back in time and whatnot.
Anyone who has any other ideas for this concept, please let me know! I'm fascinated!

The Fallout Series as stories (part 1, also: not about the TV show)
"Fallout" is a series of games set in a post-apocalyptic future. The world "ended" in 2077 and the player gets to explore the aftermath and interact with the people inhabiting "the Wasteland." What "Fallout" is about, however, is defined differently by various games, as they were produced by different people and companies.
To make things a little easier to follow, let's distinguish the games a bit:
Fallout 1+2 (FO1, FO2) were isometric 2D roleplaying games released by the original designers for Interplay, they run on the same engine and their stories build on each other. The settings are California and Northern California, respectively.
"Van Buren" was a design document for a third installment on a more modern engine that was never made since the publisher had to sell the IP. Its setting covers the Mojave desert, Utah, and Colorado.
Fallout 3 (FO3) was instead made by Bethesda, the RPG behemoth responsible for the Elder Scrolls series ("Oblivion", "Skyrim") and nowadays "Starfield". It is set around Washington, DC.
Fallout: New Vegas (FO:NV) was made under a license from Bethesda, using their FO3 engine, but by many of the people originally behind Fallout. It recovers a lot of the "Van Buren" material but ends up telling a different story. The game focuses on the Mojave desert, but you can visit Utah in a DLC.
Fallout 4 (FO4) is another RPG made by Bethesda, this time set near and in the ruins of Boston.
Fallout 76 (FO76) is more of a multiplayer shooter with RPG elements than a Fallout RPG. It eventually offered things like a Battle Royal expansion. It's set in the Appalachians.
Let's look a bit at the stories of these games, and especially what kind of stories they try to tell.
Dark yet hopeful
Fallout 1, a game released 1997, was a strange groundbreaker. It was celebrated as a spiritual successor "Wasteland" (1988), probably the first, or at least the first interesting, post-apocalyptic game. This is true and then not. Whereas "Wasteland" was a game about an organization called "the Rangers" trying to restore peace to a post-apocalyptical America and the party becoming heroes saving the world, FO1 has a different, more personal, and maybe noir vibe.
Tumblr media
First of all, humanity, at least in North America largely survived the nuclear holocaust thanks to underground bunkers called Vaults, built by a company called VaultTec. The player character in FO1 sets out from such a vault to find a chip to control the vault's failing water purification system and begins to explore the surroundings, fighting various mutated monsters and dangerous raiders on his way.
During the course of the game you will deal with various factions, including the technology-preserving Brotherhood of Steel, a group of irradiated, long-lived and sentient ghouls, a sort of do-goodie hippie community, a cult worshipping a bomb, raider gangs, etc. Ultimately the player gets to decide the fates of many groups in the Wasteland, and combats the Supermutant menace threatening them all, ultimately thwarting "the Master's" plans to create a new sort of "super-human" from the Forced Evolution Virus, another threat released into the world during the war, and ultimately the cause of all these mutations.
I remember getting FO1 on a CD-ROM as part of a compilation and being to no end surprised by it. It looked at first like a low-end title with maybe nothing much to it, but it quickly blew my mind. Its mix of atmospheric dark music, a clever combat engine taking place within the portrayed world, its multitude of choices, and its storytelling were a unique combo.
Tumblr media
Fallout itself has no simple story, it keeps telling you many things and expanding. It tells you how the world ended, but it's fair to say the world ended before "the bombs fell." Pre-apopalypse America was a militaristic police state that had occupied Canada and was battling China for the world's resources. The world from the before the final war looks bleak, and yet may in some respects look like heaven to those who came after.
Conflict remains a central theme, but this time it's about what the world will look like going forward. Raiders only think about what to grab and whom to extort, but settlers and merchants are trying to eke out a living. The Brotherhood wants to preserve technology, but is isolationist and ultimately an outgrowth of the last vestiges of the US military, formed by survivors in a bunker. Resources are contested, and the players pokes around in a lot of pre-war stuff.
When you walk around an old nuclear power plant or delve into the lore of the world it may seem Fallout is a game about the past. But its people are all looking to the future, even if the past exerts its influence through undetonated warheads and mutation viruses, and even if this future is full of hardships.
An evolving world
Nothing proves this more than FO2. Instead of setting another game in just the same place, the designers fast-forwarded 80 years into the future, and forward they did!
When we leave FO1, the protagonist cannot return to his home. He's cast out as the ones he's saved fear what he has become, so he goes north and founds a small community. These "tribals" live a lifestyle more oriented towards the land, as harsh as its, and revere the "Vault Dweller" as their ancestor.
Other elements have also evolved from the original setting. The settlement you came across first in the original game? It became the seed for a new nation state, the New California Republic. The Brotherhood is still around. Another vault has built a (stagnant, isolationist) city in the region. Supermutants still exist, some as roaming raiders, but also at times integrated into society.
Tumblr media
FO2 (released 1998) has a bit of a different vibe from FO1. The basic gameplay is there, but there's more humor (sometimes so absurd that people dislike it). And it keeps building the world, this time north of San Francisco. FO2 evolves the feel of the original and adds new elements. Let's leave the feel aside for a moment (discussed below) and look at what FO2 throws at us.
You can visit locations like San Francisco (essentially its Chinatown), New Reno, mining towns, etc. There are Western elements here, and vibes of the American West. There's even more to do, and it's even more personal. You can now gain titles and reputations, and you can become a "made man" (a top-notch mafia-style gangster), a boxing champion, and a pornstar - and that's just in New Reno!
FO2 is also more about people than anything. Power and control are definitely among the themes, because even among the people just trying to survive there are those who'd sell them drugs just to take advantage of them. Bullies big and small. And the biggest bully of them all is the antagonist, the Enclave.
Tumblr media
FO1 was about the world that was beginning (again) and the one that ended. In FO2 you learn many dark truths about the world that has ended and refuses to stay dead. Vault-Tec was never truly meant to save humanity, and most of what it did was conduct a large scale experiment on humanity. The Enclave is essentially the US government, and it's as dark a villain as you can expect.
This "government" hid itself on an oil rig, and is using the technology left to it (like "vertibirds", i.e. helicopters) to work towards its goal: Erase the population of the mainland and start it over in its image. (The "remaking by force (and virus)" theme of FO1 is alive and well, apparently.) Talk about persistence... Their plot unfolds 164 years after the war. Given it's the same government that launched the nukes and left humanity to die, mutate, and experiment on them, this is as villainous a blast from the past as can be.
Original Fallout, however, has a way to have villains make fools out of themselves. "The Master" ultimately was a fool, as his Supermutants turned out to be sterile - and hence have no future. They could not supersede the human race. And "the Enclave" cannot escape the effects of the FEV virus, even though they pretend they can. The irony is condensed into their main enforcer who has become a super-mutant monstrosity himself after exposure.
Tumblr media
An aesthetic
Even though a lot of it was conveyed through videos, character closeups, and various game screens, Fallout managed to evolve a strong aesthetic and unique vibe. It's setting is futuristic and retro. The 1950s are back with their cars with fins, their ideas how a robot might look like, and their "Atomic Cafe" like vibes in reaction to the development of the hydrogen bomb.
Many design elements of Fallout have had a lasting impact on people coming in touch with them, including:
The Vault Boy, the iconic mascot of VaultTec, featured in its "educational" films and promos, but also in the various game screens. This becomes especially strong in FO2 where all these little reputation images and illustrations feature Vault Boy in various guises.
PipBoy, a (clunky) wearable device that acts as the world's biggest smart watch, including maps, a radiation detector, and various other things.
Tumblr media
Full body power armor and massive guns, as used by the original US army, the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, and ultimately the player.
Supermutants, looking like big, green, hulking brutes.
Deathclaws, a sentient giant monster.
You will find robots that have heads looking like brains in jars, robotic dogs, a "Mr Handy" utility robot with lots of tool arms, may own a fusion-cell powered car reminiscent of a Cadillac. You might even recover an oil portrait of Elvis from a crashed UFO labeled "property of Area 51."
FO1 and FO2 are a unique mix of genres, and its aesthetic of decay, rust and rot, its selective use of futuristic items define it. This combines with a dark synth soundtrack to a tight package. FO1 also has a pretty grim manual, explaining a good deal of what nuclear weapons are "nowadays" held by the various powers and how they are intended to be used at "lower yield" (150 kilo tons vs the multi-megaton monsters developed in the 1950s) to limit the phenomenon known as "fallout."
The combination of its graphics, lore, gameplay, design aesthetics - it all conveys together something that has become uniquely "Fallout". So much so that when watching "Loki" I couldn't shake the feeling of seeing something reminiscent to "Fallout", in spite of it taking its cues more from the technology and design of the 1960s.
Games about decisions
Part of the lasting impact the originals had was the fact that they left a lot to the player. Choices you made during the game would impact "the ending" - slides you were shown showing you the consequencs of your actions. Often these choices are between differing options, and not all of them can work out, even if taken. This alone added replay value as one tried to achieve the various endings.
But choice was baked in everywhere. Nothing prevents you from finishing the games killing all and everyone, or with as little violence and as much stealth and diplomacy as possible. This spiked people's ambitions, and is very different from many RPGs before and after it, often only offering slight variations of one path towards the end.
Tumblr media
This also brings the concept of morality and consequences of your choices into focus, as your choices impact how you are received to a degree. You can also decide to play smart or dumb (which can be hilarious and limits dialogue). What you do and what you say feels like it matters. Already by that, the original games left a lasting impact on game design itself, being copied in various ways by later games.
This is the legacy of the original two games, and here my coverage of it takes a short break and is continued in other articles taking advantage of this groundwork. To be continued here.

How Rocksteady Studios Ruined the Batman Arkham Series with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Tumblr media
Introduced on May 30 1939 Batman has been surrounded by many fans from all over the world (Including me). Thus it’s of no surprise that there have been multiple games ( 51 to be exact) on him but none have been as popular as the Batman Arkham series created by Rocksteady. In 2009 they created they're first Batman game called “Batman: Arkham Asylum”. The game Featured Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman and Mark Hamil as the voice of Joker many may recognise them as the voices of Batman and Joker in the Batman animated series as well as some Justice League movies and shows. This game redefined the combat system of many video games of that time and has been an inspiration to many others , the most popular being Insomniac's “Amazing Spider-Man” series which features similar gameplay mechanics. No wonder this game won Game Of The Year.
Tumblr media
The popularity of the first Batman game gave the studio enough confidence to create their second game roughly 2 years later in 2011 called “Batman: Arkham City” This time the game took a different approach. Instead of the linear playthrough of the first game the studio decided to make this game open-world. This change was one of the best changes the studio made as this game has been known to many as “one of the greatest Batman games ever”. Spoiler alert to anyone who hasn’t played the game The Joker dies in this game.
Tumblr media
Warner Brothers which is the parent company of DC Entertainment wanting to capitalize on the success of the Batman Arkham series created another game called “Batman: Arkham Origins” This game was meant to act as the beginning point of the Arkham series as this series shows a young batman Just beginning his vigilante career of being the guardian of Gotham city. This time it featured Troy Baker as the voice of Joker and Roger Craig Smith as the voice of young Batman. This game featured one of the best boss fights in the series i.e. against Deathstroke
Tumblr media
To close the Batman Arkham universe Rocksteady decided to create their last and final game ( or so we thought) with “Batman: Arkham Knight” in 2015 this game featured a new combat system i.e. we used the bat mobile. This game was the studio version of the Red Hood story by DC Comics. It again featured Kevin Conroy as the voice of the Batman and Troy Baker as the voice of the Red Hood. In my opinion this was another underrated game if it wasn’t for the technical difficulties the game faced.
Tumblr media
Roughly 5 years later Rocksteady Studios announced another Batman Arkham game called Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. The game was meant to be released in the year 2022 but got delayed twice due to complaints by fans, The game finally came out in February of this year and in mine and a lot of people’s opinion ruined the series. This was for two reasons i.e. the Voice actor of Batman Kevin Conroy passed away from Intestinal cancer at the age of 66 therefore this was the last performance of the actor and the way the studio went about handling the death of Batman. The other reason was that the studio decided to make this game a live service. Simply, a player could spend real money to buy cosmetics and overpowered weapons from the game store
Tumblr media
The studio could only save themselves by erasing this story, saying that Batman isn't dead, or saying that this game is not part of the Arkham verse. This game does have two popular theories namely the heroes we see dying are clones created either by the Justice League themselves or by Brainiac. and the second is that the game will slowly bring back the dead heroes because of hidden voice recordings found in the game's files. Whatever they do I hope they make Rocksteady make the right choice.

INJUSTICE 3 GAME MOD
INJUSTICE 3 GAME ARCHIVE
At the moment, the only fighting game featuring DC Comics characters that has been announced is the more Smash Bros-like MultiVersus, which hopefully will get a release date soon.
INJUSTICE 3 GAME MOD
There are a total of 240 cards in this Injustice Gods Among Us Series 3 collection. Injustice 2 Mod Injustice 2 v5.3.
INJUSTICE 3 GAME ARCHIVE
What’s worse is that Boon does this so often fans don’t know when he’s joking - he’s previously done similar “just for fun” teases that came true for Mortal Kombat’s Alien, Spawn, and the whole Kombat Pack 2 DLC line-up.įans were previously hoping to see Injustice 3 at DC Fandome in October, but Ed Boon’s appearance there was just to talk about the Injustice animated movie. ' Injustice 3 ,' a game which has not been announced but has been the subject of rumors and speculation regardless, immediately started trending on social media after the Mortal Kombat 11 news. A ProJect To Create An Archive of All The Arcade, Trading And Game Cards In The World. The game also offers 6 different game styles, including Standard Battle, Challenge Mode, Online Battle, Survivor Mode, Breakthrough, and Phantom Zone. There are single-player and multiplayer modes. Just this year, Boon’s hinted at a Marvel Vs DC Comics fighting game and a remaster of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Game modes Injustice: Gods Among Us is playable for an average of 6 hours. Injustice 2 was a game-changer when it was released, thanks to some incredible storytelling, amazing combat and it being the only game in existence that actually got the idea of loot. NO tease for any kind of announcement.” It’s certainly not the first time he’s trolled fans hoping for a particular game announcement. I can’t not see an Injustice 3 being released eventually, what with NetherRealm having made Injustice a fighting game staple between Mortal Kombat releases. Unfortunately, this leak is in fact a big troll on fans by Ed Boon, who immediately followed it up with “this tweet was just for fun. (Photo : Injustice) 'Injustice 3: Gods Will Fall' would be the title of the third installment of the hit DC game franchise after a leak has surfaced on the internet, which hints at the sequel from. No YOU'RE awesome in so many ways!! The man has spoken… but perhaps instead….? /rjNOkQmm9x

Hi!! I was just browsing your One if by Land tag and I was wondering what it was all about, if you were posting the story anywhere, or planning to? I was really intrigued by the art but I don’t know what’s going on and would love to!
Oh hey, thanks for asking! Here’s an overly long response 😂
I haven’t started posting One if by Land yet but plan to begin soon. (I’m currently about 60K words into drafting, and nowhere near a complete first draft.) The plan is to cross-post on AO3 (with links to accompanying art) and fanfiction.net.
The gist: it’s a Fallout 3/Fallout 4 fanfic in which several groups of characters wind up chasing each other traveling together under duress between Massachusetts and the DC metro area (plus Pittsburgh and Point Lookout).
The East Coast Brotherhood and the Institute have learned of, and are in an arms race to get access to, a bioweapon (or ten) and both are way too close to succeeding. The Minutemen will do anything to thwart them…including work with the Railroad, who have begrudgingly teamed up with the Abolitionists. The Sole Survivor has wildly overextended herself and it’s coming home to roost. The Lone Wanderer and company do not want to go on another Effing Grand Adventure involving the General Health of the Populace. MacCready wants his kid healthy and to get off this boat. Haylen wants to know how she got roped into stealing a vertibird with Deacon. Danse wants to know the meaning of life, whereas everyone else wants Danse to learn to stop being a fascist. Ellie Perkins, an anxious robot, and a Terrible Trio of kiddos have a new pet, a functioning camera, and plenty of film. It’s a Rat Race/Planes, Trains and Automobiles-esque dash to beat the other factions to the finish line. There’s only one problem: the finish line keeps moving, because it’s not a place - it’s a person.
Major themes include picking up some companions’ dropped plot threads, developing inter-faction politics beyond where the games take them, and a lot of found family. There’s canon divergence, but in the sense that I play “fill in the blanks” between existing points in canon. I won’t lie, it’s a self-indulgent story in that a lot of it is fix-it fic. I love the Fallout franchise to death but a lot of things about it do not, despite what Todd Howard thinks, “just work.” After looking at various things in the games and going “no? That doesn’t seem to make sense to me. …But what if I made it make sense?”…eventually I started writing the ideas down, and now I’m about 125 pages into a Google doc with no idea how I got to this point. It’s also self-indulgent in that I live in the Fallout 3 map area and have lived in some of the DLC areas/76 map area, so I’m having a ton of fun with “write what you know (but make it Fallout).”
(Did I mention MacCready? There’s a lot of MacCready.)

Jason doesn't show up in DC's animated series (though the does "spiritually" show up as Tim Drake in Season 2 of Batman the Animated Series).
Jason has a strong presence in the video games, though. So what is your opinion on Jason's characterization for Arkham Knight? He is a DLC for the Injustice games as well. Judy be warned that I did watch some clips of Arkham Knight and the torture was too gruesome for me.
RED HOOD IN VIDEO GAMES.
Hey there friend, thank you for the ask!
INJUSTICE 2.
I had to do some research on Red Hood’s appearances in the Injustice games because I was never really in touch with that story. Here is what I knew about it, there are two games for PC, one of them is Injustice and the other is Injustice 2, the games also have the comic books that give context/background to the lore of the game.
I used to play Injustice: Gods Among Us on mobile phone, and I had Jason as a playable character there, I also found out way too late that “Nightwing” wasn’t really Dick Grayson, it was Damian because he took on the mantle after he and the rock killed Dick in the comic (forever mad at that ridiculous death and the kinda scary art that comic had).
I looked for information about Red Hood’s backstory in wikis and all that because I refuse to read an alternate universe book written by Tom Taylor, there are things that I am just not willing to do.
All in all, I think that this Jason was in surface level, the same as his canon comic counterpart up until the time of his resurrection. Given that the world was at war and the League of Assassins wasn’t working openly, he and the others had to live in the shadows, he seems to have been trained proficiently by both Batman and the LoA so he is a very hardcore opponent. There are some bits of his story with Damian and a place called Gorilla City that I do not understand because I haven’t read the comics but I am fine without it.
The thing is that this Jason is pretty cool, he sticks to his morals and fights for what he believes is right, he doesn’t look like the kinda guy that takes sides in this war which is probably the best idea. Both Batman and Superman seem to be on the wrong side of history with they ideals.
What I did see and I loved eternally was the ending to Red Hood’s story, I will link the video here! But I will also copy and paste all that he says there because I think it’s really important and where I was able to see more of his characterization.
"That. Felt. Good. Titanium composite hollow point bullets with a C4 kicker. Fastest, most explosive ammo in the world. I made them myself. With the invasion over, Bruce and Superman started fighting again. I wasn't down with either of them. On the one hand, the Regime's right. Scumbag murderers and rapists deserve to die. But on the other hand, I'm no fan of government authority. Especially the dictatorial variety.
So, while the world's finest fight each other, I fight for the people. The weak. The innocent. Anyone who can't protect themselves. When they cry out for a saviour, I'll answer. As for the criminals that threaten them? They need to know that their actions have consequences. That the Red Hood is coming for them.”
This is excellent, I absolutely love this, this Jason knows his morals and doesn’t bow down to anyone and in the end, he is truly a hero to the people that need heroes the most.
Him saying that he believes that some criminals have to die but that he can’t really join Superman’s side because he cannot associate with it because he isn’t a fan of dictatorial ideas, I love this man.
I feel like this is a fair characterization for Jason, I believe that if something along the lines of what happens in Injustice happens in current continuity then Jason wouldn’t join any sides, he wouldn’t be neutral per se but he will fight for his own ideals. And his ideals in most universes are protecting people and I think that’s great. I love to see a world where Jason is seen as more intelligent and put together than the Batman.
Something that I find quite funny and interesting from this game is the dialogues that characters have with each other when they fight, I found this video compilation where you can see all the dialogues between Red Hood vs Robin (Damian Wayne), they are so fun and I love the animations too.
BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT.
Oh, ArkhamVerse Jason, my beloved.
He is, to me, the epitome of this meme.
Tumblr media
I have actually watched the whole game playthrough, several times, and Jason had a DLC as the Red Hood for that game (Nightwing has one too and I will talk about it later because I love this version of him). And, yes, the torture scene is very gruesome, it was incredibly sad and it made me feel bad. But I also think that they made it that way so it could support the kind of storytelling they were going for.
The reality is that this Jason suffered his whole life, and was constantly introduced to lifestyles that he never wanted to be part of. The world around this Jason wasn’t kind at all to him and there is a long list of people who did him wrong.
Although ArkhamVerse Jason didn’t die, like his comic counterpart did, he suffered the most. And his suffering really drove him to be the best version of an unhinged Jason Todd. But it’s clear, his brutality and murder intent isn’t laced with his Red Hood persona or at least not on the same level as it is with his Arkham Knight persona.
This Jason’s characterization works to perfection, but it only works that way because he was well developed within the game lore and the comics. This Jason was extremely well trained, he is probably the smartest version of Jason, his mind and his level of preparedness are unparalleled when it comes to other Jason Todd variants (a little MCU Loki talk right there).
I would go as far as to say that this Jason would be an excellent match to peak Dick Grayson from before New 52 in comics. Those two would clash so immensely, but man, it would be one hell of an intellectual and physical fight. Two Kings doing what they do best.
Anyway, for now take my word for how well characterized Jason is in the ArkhamVerse, I will make a post were I deep dive more on his character both in game and comics. There is so much to say about him, he is truly interesting and very complex.
Now, I will be a little cheeky and I will use this ask as an opportunity to talk about my man, ArkhamVerse Nightwing aka Pretty Boy.
I love him so much! In the game when you get to meet him (I will link the video here! it’s five minutes long, and worth the watch) you get to see both Nightwing’s and Dick’s personalities. Nightwing is fun and relaxed, he is a little bit cocky and doesn’t let Batman be a pain in his ass, he is truly a beast. Although he is never seen without the mask in a moment when he is alone with Bruce you can really see Dick’s personality shine through. He obviously has had issues with Bruce in the past but there is also this palpable respect coming from both of them to the other. Bruce wants to protect Dick but he acts like a jerk instead of telling him what is on his mind. Dick wants to help Bruce at all costs, he refuses to leave Gotham until they solve something that he was already working on before Bruce needed his help.
There is also this sort of goodbye scene between the two (I will link it here!) that is extremely sad because Dick doesn’t believe Bruce when he tells him that he is proud of him. Dick cuts him off just when Bruce was trying to open up and I think that scene speaks volumes about how rough their relationship was. Dick never finds out that Bruce was “dying” after being infected with the Joker’s blood/gas, so it’s very bittersweet.
There is also the Nightwing DLC, where we get to see Dick being the best of the best, he is so skilled and funny and smart. It is amazing how much this game made me love their Nightwing even though he doesn’t appear much, his dynamic with Penguin is just perfect, Dick literally makes Penguin’s life very difficult. All of the people working with Penguin kinda fear Dick a little bit, some of them are even impressed by his skills.
Oh and, when Nightwing gets captured at some point in the game, Penguin’s men are saying something along the lines of “I was sure Batman will come in” “how come?” “what’s tied up downstairs and getting the crap beat out of it?” “Oh yeah, Nightwing” and that is so true, if I were Batman, I will also risk my life for Nightwing.
I just love Nightwing, he makes me so happy! He is the best here!
Anyway, enough of me loving Nightwing uncontrollably, I will make a separate post where I only talk about ArkhamVerse Jason so, yeah, be ready for that one because I love that Jason too, he is hot.

I'm somewhat new to the series and after watching the movie recently, I feel totally hooked and was wondering which game is a good place to start watching some of the storylines to learn more about the lore and characters (especially about liu and lao since they've been my fav characters from when I used to play when I was younger), whether to start with MKX first or shaolin monks, then MKX and MK11 afterwards. Any recs and tips are appreciated, thank you!
Uh there's no easy way to answer this, so I'm just gonna present you with as much objective information as possible, listing all mk media and categorizing it between timelines and specifying what's canon and what matters more than other stuff, then present you with some general tips on how to traverse said lore.
So heres a whole heaping pile of info for those just hopping onto the MK franchise after the release of the 2021 movie! I may update this if anyone has future questions. Welcome to MK!
For starters you need to know there are two timelines in the MK universe. The Midway timeline and the NRS timeline.
But first, little history:
Midway created the game/franchise in 1992. The company later filed for bankruptcy and sold all of it's assets to Warner Bros in 2009, disbanding/rebranding as Netherrealm Studios (NRS for short). In the process they rebooted the MK franchise, starting a new timeline.
The Midway Era:
1. Mortal Kombat
2. Mortal Kombat 2
3. Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
4. Mortal Kombat 4/Mortal Kombat Gold
5. Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
6. Mortal Kombat Deception
7. Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Other games & material that exist within this era that elaborate/retell the story/parts of the story:
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
Mortal Kombat Special Forces
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks*
Mortal Kombat Comics (Midway)
Bonus material that came out around this time that add little/nothing to canon:
MK vs DC
MK: The Journey Begins
DotR
MK (1995 film)
MK Annihilation
MK Conquest
MK Comics (Malibu)
---
The NRS Era:
1. Mortal Kombat 2011 (also known as MK 9)
2. Mortal Kombat X
Other material that exists within this era that expands on parts of the story:
3. Mortal Kombat 11
4. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught
5. Mortal Kombat 1
Bonus material that came out during this era that re-imagines/retells parts of the story. These are not explicitly tied to either timeline and in turn add little/nothing to canon:
MK X Comics
MK Legacy
DLC Cameos in Injustice & Injustice 2
MK Legends: Scorpions Revenge
Mortal Kombat (2021 film)
---
MK Legends: Battle of the Realms
MK Legends: Snowblind
MK Legends: Cagematch
Some general tips when diving in:
Despite us being currently in the NRS timeline, think it's still important to look into the Midway timeline, as it is often still referenced in the NRS timeline and
(SPOILER COMING UP FOR MK 11)
in the latest installment, mk11 sort of canonized the Midway timeline by introducing time travel and having "different timelines" be an in game occurence.
(SPOILER OVER)
in terms of consuming just the story, I recommend reading the character bios and tower endings of your favorite characters.
from Mk 4 onward, the characters's tower endings exist as either entire cutscenes or images with narration over it. Most if not all can be found on youtube.
tower endings =/= story mode. Story mode is the canon events that take place, while tower endings are the "what if it was _____ who beat the bad guy?". Not every game has a story mode with full cutscenes. I think from Deception onward is when they begin implementing that, again said cutscenes can be found on youtube.
When in doubt, read the Wiki! I've linked every game's wiki here which include plot summaries.
There are also a some MK YouTubers that specialize in lore based content that can also steer you in the right direction:
History Behind the Warrior
Tabmok99
The4thSnake
Not an mk ytber but this timeline video is also pretty decent for condensing most of the important info
Just how much of what is canon is sometimes debatable due to some, uh, questionable writing decisions being made by NRS at the moment. I wish I could help there but it's honestly just a little messy to traverse.
---
*While just a spin/off game, I definitely recommend Shaolin Monks to you as someone who is a fan of Liu and Lao especially, since the game focuses entirely on them. It's my personal favorite MK game.

so eso is my new hyperfixation and i love your ocs! i was wondering what your favourite alliance questline is? i can't pick what race to make my vestige.
Aww Nonny thank you! 💕 I'm so pleased to see more people sucked into ESO (even if I'm currently a little burned out on it)!
So this is all my personal opinion but I'll try to ground it in my experience with the actual questlines. This gets long so:
So I've never actually completed the Ebonheart Pact storyline. I've gotten about halfway both times but then just... lost interest. So I might start there. I love Dunmer and Argonians, and I love some of the characters that recur through the EP storyline (Naryu especially, who does reappear in a later DLC so there's a benefit in getting to know her before that). But EP (from what I've done) suffers from a lack of coherence, both in terms of lacking an overarching storyline and in never really engaging with what makes the EP interesting: the races that constitute it. Each zone has its own fairly self-contained plotline which don't really connect, and some are alright (I enjoyed Deshaan's, for instance) but others resort to using the other Alliances to push things along rather than engaging any of the fun tensions within an alliance that sees former slaves working alongside their former slavers. Again, I haven't finished the full alliance questline, so take my criticisms with a grain of salt.
Another admission: I started with the Daggerfall Covenant and have a certain amount of bias towards it. It has one of the best zone questlines in the game (Rivenspire!), and two of the recurring characters (Darien and Gabrielle) become especially prominent in the last zone of the base game (which every alliance questlines ends at, so a DC Vestige has an additional element to that quest which I found really satisfying - as in gloriously painful), with Darien also important in a later DLC. However, like with the EP, it lacks a coherent central storyline. It's very much 'go to this new area I hear they're having issues' and nothing really links together beyond a couple of beat points. It's also very Breton-centric, with no Orc areas during the alliance questline (though there is a good moment where the violent history between Orsimer and Bretons is touched on, but this is also kind of hand-waved aside) and only one and a half Redguard zones.
That leaves us with the Aldmeri Dominion. Which is pretty much widely recognised as having the best alliance questline in the game. It's far more cohesive than the other two, basically being a larger story about Queen Ayrenn trying to consolidate and strengthen this Alliance, both within the Summerset Isles and without with her new allies. The first two main zones are basically the same story (which is a story about internal rebellion but ends up being a glorious family drama), and the following areas are all linked nicely together by this fundamental problem (keeping the alliance together) with the zone stories linking relatively naturally. The only thing AD lacks is the end zone connection, but it also has Razum-dar so...
I do want to stress that you will undoubtedly enjoy all the alliance questlines and picking a Vestige that feels right to you is perhaps more important! Each of the alliance storylines are better when you feel connected to your character and they're connected to the story. You will also be able to do all the stories, whether on alts or through Cadwell's Silver and Gold.
I hope that helps! And if you're on the NA server, feel free to give me a shout if you need help!

beat  New Vegas for the first time.
Fuckin’ ridic amount of spoilers under the cut for basically everything that came to mind. Also putting it under a cut bc it got LORGE.
Basically just set down the controller and went to write this.
I went independent, of course – save logged about 112 hours, final date 5/1/2282. I suppose that makes sense; I did a lot of fucking around between Vegas and DC procrastinating on finishing For Auld Lang Syne and the rest of Yes Man’s quests. Forgot to off Caesar before starting the 2BOHD, but I have a post-game mod. This ride never ends, especially since I have about 5 years of stuff I need to fill between NV and 4. (Perks of carrying the same dude across 3 games, ah?)
I played with Dexter, my old Lone Wanderer – thank god for Tale of Two Wastelands (seriously, worth the 2hr+ install time). Picked up Arcade way at the start of the game, toted him around and got his likes up as I explored. We saw the Vertibird, we saw HELIOS one… the Van Graffs, even. Every time he stopped me with something that let slip a bit of his past, I always lowkey had Dex in the back of my mind, mentioning something about his adventures in DC. It’s really all he can remember – Benny’s little bop on the noggin took his eye and most of his memories of the Mojave area. If I knew how to make a companion in NV (I used to make ‘em all the time in Skyrim, but with TTW + custom voices…) I could make his boyfriend, my friend’s take on the Courier (albeit with a modified backstory to fit in with Dexter’s days as the Lone Wanderer, haha). Even if the dialogue options wouldn’t let me talk to him about what Dexter really knew, it still made me wish that FO4’s affinity system was a thing in New Vegas. I spent waaay too much time just running around and talking to random people. Julie Farkas sounds kind of like Serana, do they share a voice actor?
I did the DLC completely out of order, lmao – I did Honest Hearts first, right after whacking House upside the head with a golf club. Graham’s interesting to talk to, though once you get to the core of his behaviour it’s apparent he hasn’t changed a bit – sure, he got the yeeting of a lifetime, but he’s only thought he’s changed. I suppose that’s how it goes when your entire life goes up in smoke and you’re left to deal with whatever remains.
Old World Blues was absolutely phenomenal – I think I spent the most time here, trying to make everybody happy, with the best result I could. I played this part with my girlfriend – she did some googling while I played and we found out that Dr. Klein is voiced by Doug Dimmadome… who also voices Mannimarco in ESO. (Then again, Arcade is Shazam. Should I be surprised anymore?)
I never ended up grabbing every companion like I thought I would – Boone stayed in the Dead Wife Dinosaur and Cass is probably still getting shitfaced at the outpost. I found Lily though, while running through For Auld Lang Syne; my friend gave me a mod that let me keep Arcade after completing the quest, so I figured procrastination time was finally over. Marcus was cool to see! I haven't been to Broken Hills in FO2 but now I have even more reason to go, especially since I've been writing a story about this playthrough that happens to involve my Chosen One.
I suppose over the course of the journey, I felt like Dexter and Arcade grew closer, sort of like how it is when you do something a companion likes in 4... course, I dunno how he'd work affinity-wise (though it's something i've thought about writing down before)
I love 3 and 4, but... Damn. New Vegas' ending is having the same impact on me as Oblivion's did. I still think personally i have a slight preference to 3 (thanks to that one Many a True Nerd video and buying it for myself propelling fallout as a whole into the special interest hell it's been for the past... god knows how many months)
I'm not really sure where i'm going with this anymore. I just kind of wanted to ramble about my thoughts on New Vegas (and i guess about my character...) but this wall was a bit too big for Discord.
