The l-word! We talked about this a bit, but I feel it needs a more in-depth analisys. I believe you said Mago is a demi-aro (I didn't dream this one up, did I? Sorry if I did! :D) when is the time he would feel comfortable hearing this from Heinrix? And when would he himself be sure enough to admit to having deeper feelings? Both to himself and Heinrix? ^^

Also, do you think that, after the game is over, there comes a time when Mago's criminal background comes back to haunt him in any way? Or is it a done deal, nobody would ever dare to come after him now that he holds the title of Rogue Trader?

Thank you! 😄💜 Took me a little while to untangle my thoughts on this, so apologies for taking so long!

I think, in some ways, it really helped that they were both so thoroughly convinced that neither of them had a future. So there was never any point or pressure to define what was going on between them. It gives them the space to figure things out at their own pace.

I think for Mago (he is demi-aro, you did not dream that up :D), the line between platonic and romantic love is blurred and there is a fair bit of overlap at the edges. I think by the time he found Heinrix in Commorragh, he understood that he loved him, but felt no need to like, demarcate the boundaries of that feeling. It was more of a: 'I think I love this person and I'll figure out what that means as I go'.

When it comes to them admitting it to each other... The thing is, from Mago's perspective, they had been doing that for weeks/months. All those little moments of kindness/affection/vulnerability/etc. I don't think it ever occurred to him that an explicit verbal declaration was like, a Thing? I think during the ice scene he understands, in the moment, that saying it out loud with words is a significant thing for Heinrix, but it isn't telling him anything he didn't already know. Which is why i love the mildly exasperated "i love you too now let me call the healers" dialogue option XD.

The confession that Heinrix is leaving the Inquisition, that he's *staying*, though... THAT hits Mago like a ton of bricks. Something about knowing they have no future, but wanting to hold onto it anyway, even if it hurts..... Anyways, I'm gonna stop before i start quoting Night In The Woods, but you get the idea XD.

And his criminal background! He wasn't really a big enough player to have enemies powerful enough to make trouble for him as a Rogue Trader. And he didn't cause enough damage to Imperial interests that it would really be worth it for the authorities to dredge that up either, as long as he sticks to the Expanse.

But his criminal and common background does still come back to haunt him in that the nobility in the Expanse never accept him. These are people who live for several hundred years, have their own private intelligence networks, and nothing to do but dig up dirt on each other, so by the time of the magnae accessio, they all know that he's a former criminal and a commoner and they don't let him forget it.

And I don't think the rumors Kunrad started every really die. Every so often the whispers start circulating again, that he's not really a Von Valancius, that he murdered Theodora and took the warrant by force, etc. Often it's just dangerous gossip, but occasionally it escalates to active sabotage or assassination attempts.

Misc. & AU #1 - What would be their favorite show or movie?

Reverie - She'd probably like shows more than movies most of the time, but she'd also just watch/listen to Ghibli movies in the background while she's doing other stuff. Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and The Cat Returns esp. ALSO, big fan of LOTR.

Rann - I'm giving him all of my love for Midnight Mass. And probably watches House and Scrubs. For movies, hands down gotta be The Fountain. (scientist trying to save his dying wife with allusions to reincarnation and transcending mortal boundaries? uh yeah.)

Olivia - No horror stuff is the main thing. She'll probably be keeping up with the latest biggest shows and livetweeting about them as they air, but she was really into Reign and Outlander, probably Once Upon a Time. And lbr though her favorite movie is probably the og Disney Mulan. Also Clueless and Easy A, and as a slight curveball? Pan's Labyrinth.

Emrys - Yeah he would probably be more of a movie guy than a T.V. show guy 🤔 ...okay I know. I know the sort of reactions this is likely to immediately draw. But he probably would unironically enjoy Fight Club. Like actually, genuinely, and not in an 'dudes who idolize Tyler Durden' sort of way. Also National Lampoon's Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Maybe The Shining - he'd claim to like horror movies just to spite Olivia tbh.

Mickey hates hot weather, but he also has a high tolerance for heat since he spent his childhood in a hot climate. So while he doesn't mind a dry heat, humid weather is too much. There's only so much heat he can take and on the hottest summer days, he just lies down and doesn't move (honestly mood)

does he know how to swim/enjoy it?

He does know how to swim and he loves it! There is nothing better than taking a dip in cool water on a hot day. There was a quarry in the woods next to the all-boys school he went to that he and Edward would sneak off to during the hot weekends. Many of the schoolboys did it, and Mickey was no exception.

As an adult in London, there are fewer places to swim (swimming in the Thames isn't exactly a good idea), but on the off-chance he holidays by the sea, he makes sure to take a dip in the ocean.

what is his ideal summer day

Warm with a soft breeze. Not having to work, but instead having leisure time to take a walk in the park or attend an event like the races. Finish off the day of socializing by having a large meal then go slumming and drinking. Similar to how he spends the rest of the year, but with the benefit of spending more time outside. Mickey is a social butterfly and summer allows for him to spread his wings under the sun where everybody is in higher spirits.

does he tan or burn?

He tans, but only a little. The only reason it's noticeable at all is because he normally has very fair skin

his opinion on beaches?

He loves going to the beach! To tie back into an earlier question, it gives him a chance to go swimming. He also loves walking along the boardwalk and feeling the cool sea breeze against his face, especially if it's a hot day. He doesn't go often, but he tries to make a trip at least once a year.

ICE CREAM TRUCK PICK

This is an excellent question! It would depend on who he's getting ice cream with, because OF COURSE he'd pick the best one to tease his company with lol but I'll answer this for what he gets when he's by himself.

He wouldn't want something that makes a mess like a sandwich. Something that would require only one hand to hold, so something on a stick. Not a character head because he's not enough of a nerd. He likes a bit of fruit, but not too much.

OKAY after much consideration, I think his go-to would definitely be the strawberry shortcake ice cream on the stick! Runner up that isn't among these choices but I know an ice cream truck might carry: one of those lemon great white shark-shaped popsicles. He'd LOVE those 😂

He’s spent enough time recently dealing with a crying child whose mother is gone, the logistics of trying to keep her alive, and his own tiny breakdowns in the rare moments she is actually asleep that he thinks it’s excusable to be rather less put-together than usual.

Thought (from my Renfri lives AU):

She suspects he can’t be very far past adulthood; he might be around the age she was when she was killed. The thought makes her a little sick, so she stops thinking about it.

Immediately, top of the list, top of my head, come marine iguanas. I love them. They're marine lizards and I feel that's a convincing argument as to why.

What a handsome creature.

Endemic to the Galapagos, probably had a couple of arrivals on the archipelago, developed long spines and dark skin. They're normally black - pictured is from the one island where they're red and green because of their diet. They're called Christmas iguanas there. Same species though. They sneeze their salt out to cope with it - the marine environment has a lot of salt and dealing with it is one of the stressors marine organisms have to face.

And then there are echinoderms. I love echinoderms. Sea stars, sand dollars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers... they're pretty cool. Here's a chocolate chip star, Protoreaster nodosus.

I also like seahorses and pipefish (they're closely related, forming subfamily Syngnathinae).

Look at that face!

I could go on - puffers, filefish are funky triangles, on the freshwater side I'm a fan of salamanders, it's tough to name an aquatic species I don't like, but it wouldn't be highlighting favourites if I named everything.
