Knowing Lula is Brazil's president and watching it all on TV is making me emotional. The past 4 years were hell, and now there's hope!

that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.

imagine during the third book where percy gets his final recommendation letter. he is approached by a god or goddess who asks him to reconcile past relationships. because to move forward, you can't let the things of the past hold you back. so percy gets closure with the side characters from the pjo og series. clarisse, nico, thalia, and rachel. and it just gets progressively more intimate until he has to confront one final person: the ghost of luke castellan.

Catching Up
Thalia: So what happened after Juno took you? Where did you go? Were you safe, happy?
Jason, uncomfortably brushing her off: Well, it’s a long story and kind of a bummer haha. You don’t wanna hear that right now.
Thalia, softly: Jason, I’ve waited thirteen years to hear your sad stories.

CHB campers who know Percy at that guy who blew himself up in that volcano and Nico as the creepy son of Hades who regularly summons skeletons to sit with him during lunch and Thalia as that girl that was a tree and is now chasing monsters across the US and Canada, just assuming that there's something wrong with all the Big Three kids so when Jason drops to all fours and starts chasing birds, eating them whole, bones and feathers and all, they're just like "fucking knew it"
Which makes Hazel's presumable "normality" confusing as fuck, because they're all waiting for her to do something deranged or weird, and she's just vibing.

after the second war percy thalia and nico became closer (and got over their problems ofc) and actually friends, and shortly after they realized they all liked to shit talk people. especially the gods.
but the gods would never allow that, and the only god any of them could think of that would let them get away with that was poseidon. so they had their weekly shit-talk session in the poseidon cabin.
until one day, when thalia was shit talking apollo about what he did to/with the hunt that particular day, poseidon decided to join in. he had nothing better to do so why not
thalia barely even blinked and started from the beginning while percy and nico fell off the couch.
percy already shit talked other gods with his dad during the summer/winter solstice since neither of them wanted to be there, so he adjusted to the new member fairly quickly
and from that day on poseidon officially became part of the shit-talking group, he always brought a lot of snacks and drama from olympus (and often atlantis) and soemtimes would bring amphritrite too
after a few weeks, after their shit talk sesh, poseidon would bring the little three out to wherever they wanted to go to just chill and vibe (it was thalias idea)

It blows my mind that there's actually a pretty large section of Pjo fans who think Percy should've become a unbeatable powerful ass fuck off deity with a harem because 'it's in his blood as the son of Poseidon' and 'he wasted his powers and inheretance by choosing kindness and his normal friends instead of highups' like damn calm down Lord Ozai, you're talking about an afrolatino who grew up in New York and is probably transfem with undiagnosed autism not a back in the good 'ol days testosterone fulled nepotism baby

one thing abt thalia and percy's dynamic that is often overlooked is that percy was punished for the same things thalia was rewarded for. there's a prophecy abt one of the big three kids? percy is treated like a liar and thief and ppl refuse to talk to him. thalia? everyone respects her (including gods!) and assumes she'll do a great job saving the world. thalia is accepted immediately at camp and threatens the place percy spent two years proving he deserves. percy wants to go on a quest to save his friend? he's an attention seeker and glory stealer. thalia? well, she's the obvious choice. thalia comes up w a plan to win capture the flag that's basically "leave everything to me" and percy comes up with a plan that's basically "if you see a good opportunity, go for it," but percy is viewed as the control freak.
what i'm saying is percy had every reason to resent thalia and he didn't. he chose not to. and thalia had every reason to look down on percy and didn't.
even when they were fighting, i never saw it as a power struggle. they were being pit against each other, and instead of doing what everyone expected them to (kronos was fully expecting thalia to kill percy), they chose to love and respect each other. because they're not their parents. they're just two kids who started cracking under the pressure but refused to break.

Rick Riordan didn't need to go so hard with the Big Three kids lmao.
Percy? He's the son of Poseidon. He fought the war god and won when he was twelve. He was one of the protagonists of two Great Prophecies. Was named praetor in like a week. He's a skater. He likes Led Zeppelin. He can talk to horses. He confuses everyone by eating blue food. Certified simp.
Nico di Angelo? He's Italian. He's a son of Hades. He was born in like the 1920's or 30's but didn't age for decades. He's like emo. He's a huge nerd. He's even gay.
Or Thalia? She is the daughter of Zeus. She has electric blue eyes and always uses eyeliner. She's goth and punk. She only listens to rock. She's an immortal huntress. Her mom was an actress. She can probably fly but she's scared of heights. Also she was a tree for like six years?
Or Hazel? She's the daughter of Pluto. She was born in New Orleans in the 1920's. She canonically got her mouth washed with soap by nuns for swearing. She died to stop Gaia and came back over seventy years later. She stabbed a giant in the ass. She is a horse girl.
And Jason was like. Raised by wolves and then was accepted into the legion as a 3yo which like. Huh.
Anyway characters of all time.

thinking abt tlt, som, and ttc era percy
percy who's still struggling to find his footing at camp, and every single time during those first three prophecies, he's seen as the outcast, and never once brought into the fold until he comes back after finishing the prophecy.
there's always something that pushes him to the outskirts, something that gives the other campers fodder to make fun of him or completely ignore him.
he thinks he's found his place after the minotaur? nope, turns out everyone sees him as a bad omen and he doesn't make any friends because the entire camp refuses to be around him.
he thinks he's found his place after lighting thief? restoring zeus' bolt? NOPE he finds out tyson is a cyclopes and his brother and now one of his closest friends + the campers are icing him out and grover's not around.
he thinks he's found his place after sea of monsters? restored thalia's tree and hey, now he's got a cousin? NOPE he's pushed aside in favor of her by the campers and chiron and is seen as incompetent and his best friend has been kidnapped and he's being blamed.
rereading those first three books now is so painful, because the way percy gets treated by the camp hurts so much, because literally all he wants is to be accepted by this group of people he should have so much in common with, but every single turn meets him with more people pushing him away.
and it isn't until battle of the labyrinth, until he's named as the child of the prophecy, that people actually start to treat him as one of them.

I find it extremely funny when I see people talk about how unforgivable it was for Luke to go against his father, and the gods. About how he never should’ve went against his family because, “well Percy never went against his family”.
Like, you want the person who has never been able to trust his family, who’s been abandoned and shunned out of his family (the godly side) and who’s mortal family hasn’t been able to teach him how real family treats each other because she was literally cursed/ mentally unstable and abandoned by her family and lover, to worry about hurting his family??? You want him to fully understand how family works when he’s never had anyone around to teach him? You want him to suddenly care about the family that abandoned him and never did anything to help him?
Why should he care! He’s never cared about him! And I don’t want to hear any of that bs about, “well, he should’ve just been mature about it and taken the high road.” No! Fuck that! Why should he suddenly be expected to be nice to the people who literally ruined his life and made it their mission to take everything away from him? Why should he take the high road when the adults around him should’ve just treated him right? Why should the child be expected to do all of the work to fix the issues with the family??
“Well, Percy didn’t turn against the gods even if they didn’t treat them that well.” Yeah, that’s because he had Sally to teach and show him what family truly is. To show him how family should treat each other. Percy had family and a godly parent that at least puts a little effort into helping Percy when he really needs it.
Luke doesn’t and never had that, and expecting him to care about the family that hurt him and was never there for him, is actually ludicrous. The same with blaming him for being angry at his father and the gods for what they’ve done. Because how dare you blame him for being upset at the people who ruined everything in his life? How dare he have negative emotions about them like a confused kid would? It just honestly sounds like blaming an injured animal for lashing out when someone they don’t know tries touching them. It sounds like victim blaming to me and I cannot stand it.
