Theta, a decentralized video delivery network, announced the alpha release of Theta EdgeStore, a new component of the Theta Edge Node software, on Thursday. Theta EdgeStore is a decentralized, append-only storage network for permanent web content, leveraging content addressing and key/value storage. It operates on tens of thousands of Edge Nodes globally.

Theta's decentralized video delivery network runs on a dedicated blockchain, aiming to reduce content delivery costs by creating a mesh network of shared content. Ένας 23χρονος Αυστραλός gamer πριν ένα χρόνο διαλύθηκε ψυχολογικά, όταν τον παράτησε η φίλη του επειδή «σπαταλούσε χρήματα σε ηλίθια ψεύτικα νομίσματα στο Διαδίκτυο». Αναφερόμαστε στον χρήστη του Twitter και του Reddit με το ψευδώνυμο «Grave», ο οποίος αγόρασε 100.000 νομίσματα Theta τον Απρίλιο του 2020, πληρώνοντ��ς 17 σεντς το καθένα. Ωστόσο αυτή η «παραξενιά» του τελικά του βγήκε σε καλό. Η επένδυσή του ύψους 17.000 δολαρίων, τον μετέτρεψε σε εκατομμυριούχο. Έχασε το κορίτσι, αλλά του έμειναν τα χρήματα για παρηγοριά.

Ο Grave για την ώρα έχει αρνηθεί να αποκαλύψει το πραγματικό του όνομα. Δήλωσε ότι δεν το έχει πει ούτε στην οικογένεια του. Τι είναι αυτό το Theta που από το πουθενά πετάχτηκε στα 10 κορυφαία κρυπτονομίσματα με βάση την κεφαλαιοποίηση; Τι ιδιαίτερο έχει που κατάφερε να αυξήσει την αξία του κατά 160 φορές μέσα σε ένα μόλις χρόνο, στα 12 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια;

Το Theta είναι ένα νέο αποκεντρωμένο δίκτυο που βασίζεται στην τεχνολογία blockchain και που έχει ως κύριο αντικείμενο εργασιών μια εφαρμογή δικτύου διανομής βίντεο. Συγκεκριμένα έχει βρει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο οι χρήστες παρέχουν το διαθέσιμο bandwidth που δεν χρησιμοποιούν. Το επιπλέον bandwidth χρησιμοποιείται για να βελτιώσει την ποιότητα της ροής δεδομένων (streaming), όπως στη μετάδοση βίντεο.

Το λογισμικό του Theta έχει καταφέρει να εκμεταλλεύεται μόνο το διαθέσιμο bandwidth, συνεπώς ο χρήστης δεν έχει κάποια επίπτωση στο δικό του streaming από τον διαμοιρασμό. Το Theta καθιστά δυνατή τη μετάδοση ροών βίντεο χρησιμοποιώντας ένα δίκτυο τοπικών κόμβων που αποθηκεύουν προσωρινά δεδομένα βίντεο και μεταδίδουν ροές στους θεατές.

Από την ίδρυσή του το 2017, η αποστολή του Theta Labs ήταν να δημιουργήσει την πρώτη πλήρως αποκεντρωμένη πλατφόρμα ροής στον πλανήτη, καθώς θέλησε να αυξήσει την παγκόσμια πρόσβαση σε ζωντανή ροή βίντεο μειώνοντας την απαιτούμενη υποδομή. Η εφαρμογή είναι ιδιαίτερα χρήσιμη σε μέρη όπου δεν διαθέτουν μεγάλες ταχύτητες Internet. Πολλοί άνθρωποι, κυρίως στις αναπτυσσόμενες χώρες, δεν απολαμβάνουν ποιοτική ροή δεδομένων, είτε επ��ιδή η τρέχουσα υποδομή είναι ανεπαρκής για τις αυξανόμενες απαιτήσεις τους, είτε βρίσκονται μακριά από τα κέντρα διανομής.

Το δίκτυο του Theta έχει σχεδιαστεί με τέτοιο τρόπο που να βελτιώνει την ποιότητα ροής βίντεο και να επιβραβεύει όσους προσφέρουν τους υπολογιστικούς τους πόρους. Για να υπάρχει κίνητρο να παρέχουν το bandwidth τους οι χρήστες, αμείβονται με tokens.

Η ζήτηση για streaming video έχει αυξηθεί την τελευταία δεκαετία. Αυτό οφείλεται στην αυξανόμενη χρήση πλατφορμών όπως το YouTube, οι οποίες αντικαθιστούν σε σημαντικό βαθμό την τηλεόραση, ενώ οι προβλέψεις δείχνουν ότι η τάση αυτή δεν θα επιβραδυνθεί.

Η ζήτηση για βίντεο υψηλής ευκρίνειας αυξάνεται ραγδαία καθώς εξελίσσεται η τεχνολογία. Ωστόσο, μεγάλο μέρος του περιεχομένου βίντεο που καταναλώνεται στο διαδίκτυο είναι σχετικά χαμηλής ποιότητας. Ενώ οι χρήστες αναζητούν υψηλότερη ανάλυση, τα δίκτυα παράδοσης περιεχομένου (CDN) δεν μπορούν να ανταποκριθούν.

Το Theta αρχικά ήταν σχεδιασμένο να λειτουργεί πάνω στο blockchain του Ethereum. Από τον Μάιο του 2020, το Theta 2.0 αυτονομήθηκε και τα παλαιότερα tokens μετατράπηκαν σε νέα. Πλέον ισχύει ένα νέο αναθεωρημένο white paper, το οποίο αναφέρει λεπτομερώς τα μελλοντικά project που προτίθενται να πραγματοποιήσουν.

Συνεργάστηκε με τη MGM για προβολή κλασικών ταινιών του Χόλυγουντ.

Πέτυχε τα ευφυή συμβόλαιά της να είναι διαλειτουργικά με το Ethereum. Τόσο τα Theta Labs όσο και τα μέλη της κοινότητας Theta κατασκευάζουν επί του παρόντος DEXs, stakes pools και άλλα dApps.

Εξασφάλισε το πρώτο δίπλωμα ευρεσιτεχνίας των ΗΠΑ για ένα αποκεντρωμένο πρωτόκολλο ροής βασισμένο σε blockchain.

Συνεργάστηκε με το Chainlink για την καταπολέμηση της απάτης μέσω διαδικτυακών διαφημίσεων βίντεο.

Επικυρωτικοί κόμβοι (Validator Nodes) λειτουργούν από Binance, Google, Blockchain Ventures και πολλά άλλα μεγάλα ονόματα. Αρκετές νέες επιχειρήσεις βρίσκονται επίσης στη διαδικασία να γίνουν Theta Validator Nodes.

Στα μελλοντικά τους σχέδια προβλέπεται η κυκλοφορία του Theta mainnet 3.0, το οποίο έπρεπε ήδη να έχει βγει, αλλά θα καθυστερήσει μέχρι τον Ιούνιο. Ωστόσο η εταιρεία ανακοίνωσε μια παρόμοια αναβολή του Mainnet 2.0 από τον Μάρτιο έως τον Μάιο προκειμένου να επιτρέψει «περισσότερες δοκιμές». Η κυκλοφορία προχώρησε τελικά στις 27 Μαΐου χωρίς επιπλέον καθυστερήσεις.

Από ότι έχουν αναφέρει, θα επικεντρωθούν στην ανάπτυξη της αγοράς των NFTs, λόγω της εντυπωσιακής ανάπτυξης του χώρου. Με το 3.0 αποσκοπούν στο να διασφαλιστεί η ομαλή και ασφαλής μεταφορά των NFTs. Το Theta θα έχει επίσης τα δικά της πρότυπα fungible και non-fungible token, κάτι που σημαίνει ότι θα είναι δυνατή η δημιουργία νέων και συλλεκτικών αντικειμένων στο δίκτυο τους.

Το νόμισμα

Μέχρι τώρα έχουν δημιουργηθεί όλα τα νομίσματα και βρίσκονται στην κυκλοφορία. Πρόκειται για μια θετική ένδειξη για τους επενδυτές, καθώς δεν μπορούν να βγουν άλλα. Δεν μπορείς να αποκτήσεις τα Theta από mining, αλλά μόνο από τα ανταλλακτήρια. Η χρησιμότητα του νομίσματος είναι να επιβραβεύει τους καταναλωτές και τους παρόχους των nodes, που παρέχουν τους πόρους και βοηθάνε στην ανάπτυξη της απόδοσης της πλατφόρμας.

Για να παρακινήσει τους χρήστες να συνεισφέρουν στην μετάδοση περιεχομένου, το Theta χρησιμοποιεί το κρυπτονόμισμα Tfuel, για να επιβραβεύσει τους συμμετέχοντες στο δίκτυο. Πρόκειται για ένα άλλο νόμισμα στο οικοσύστημα του Theta, το οποίο λειτουργεί με παρόμοιο τρόπο με το Ethereum Gas. Το Theta χρησιμοποιείται για staking και διακυβέρνηση στο δίκτυο.

Στην πλατφόρμα του Theta οι θεατές μπορούν να χρησιμοποιήσουν τα νομίσματα τους για να επιβραβεύσουν τους δημιουργούς περιεχομένου. Άμεσα, χωρίς ενδιάμεσους, ούτε διαφημιστές. Σε αντίθεση με τις κεντρικά ελεγχόμενες πλατφόρμες όπως το Netflix και το YouTube, που καρπώνονται ένα μεγάλο μέρος των εσόδων καλλιτέχνη και δημιουργών, το Theta αλλάζει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο καταναλώνουμε περιεχόμενο βίντεο.

Σαν μειονέκτημα θα μπορούσαμε να αναφέρουμε πως οι 10 κορυφαίοι κάτοχοι του Theta ελέγχουν το 61% των νομισμάτων που κυκλοφορούν. Επίσης υπάρχει μια γεωγραφική συγκέντρωση στη Νότια Κορέα, το οποίο αποδεικνύεται από τα δεδομένα του CoinMarketCap, το οποίο δείχνει το ζεύγος συναλλαγών THETA / KRW αντιπροσωπεύει δυσανάλογα μεγάλο όγκο συναλλαγών.

Συμπερασματικά, κάθε altcoin για να επιτύχει θεαματικά αποτελέσματα, θα πρέπει να διαθέτει όραμα αλλά και ταυτόχρονα με σκληρή δουλειά να επιχειρεί να δώσει πρακτικές λύσεις.
