Tell a Demon - Sun Labyrinth
Visual Novel, 2017 - Dark Fantasy, Adventure, Romance, Horror
“Some years ago, Tell's cousin died, casting a shadow of grief over her family. Now, Tell has moved to the city to live with her beloved aunt, and to carve a life for herself away from her country home and its sad memories. Only it's not to be; one day, Tell looks into the eyes of a demon, and everything changes. Another, more literal, shadow from her past must be confronted—and overcome, or she'll never be free.”

Asher by Sun Labyrinth [IFDB]
Asher is a short visual story about a librarian—all right, librarian’s assistant—named Tetrine Reish who lives in the city-state of Asher. Things are going swimmingly (except for perhaps her brother’s debt/bootlegging problem and an ominous dream or two,) until a woman comes along asking for a book. Not a library book—that would be too easy—but a book that doesn’t belong in Tetrine’s library. The book turns out to be written in a magical script called Nell marks that only a few people can see, and Tetrine is one of them.
However, all her life she’s been told in no uncertain terms that letting on that she can see the marks is a Bad Idea. Which is unfortunate, because several people, two of whom have suspicious intentions, find out. A kidnapping and an attempted murder (or two) ensues, and Tetrine’s life will never quite be the same again.

Story
Winter's Trumpet is a short interactive story (point and click format) set just a year before the events of Asher. Tetrine Reish is staying at a boarding house when the Tarsian flu epidemic sweeps across the continent. She finds herself quarantined, stealing secret moments with her suitor, Marcus, while her sociable roommate, Rosemary, is going out her mind with boredom. Rosemary disapproves of the mysterious Marcus. For one, he is always encouraging the flagrant disregard of quarantine... and besides, 'Marcus' may have a secret or two.
Meanwhile, the immortal demoness, Kalevel Venhera, is looking for someone that possesses a special Sight, a sort of magic-user called a scrivener, and after centuries she thinks she's found one... only, things don't turn out the way she expects...
Background
Very short interactive story. You can get it for a $1 on Itch.io at the moment, or if you’re on my Patreon, it’s included in the $1 tier and above.

Art and story was completed in two weeks, the rest was testing and bugfixing. (This game uses royalty free and purchased stock music.)
Buying Winter’s Trumpet helps me work on more games. Thanks for your support during times like these! Be safe, everyone.

Are you a fan of visual novels? You might check out Asher (and it's prequel/sequels). I think you'd find the pairing there appealing! Plus the art and world building are incredible.

Sounds interesting - thank you for the recommendation! :D
Especially because I’m a librarian as well ;>

The Story
Six months have passed since Tetrine Reish died. She did not expect to wake again, nor to find herself thrown into a world of demons. To cope with her new life, she agrees to help the ancient and mythical demoness, Kalevel Venhera, to find a cure for Kalevel’s sister, whose memories were long ago stripped away by the now dead, once immortal, Empress of Aeser. In exchange, Kalevel subdues the demon’s curse, the Hunger, and Tetrine is almost able to pretend she is still human.
Except now Kalevel is missing, and there is talk of a new immortal Empress. Now Tetrine must face what she has become all on her own, and stop the next person from rising to the Imperial throne and throwing Aeser into another age of eternal darkness.
The Game
The Empress of Aeser is a point and click adventure game featuring visual novel style choice making and story branching. Your choices influence the main character's (Tetrine's) personality, but also have a lasting impact on the story, leading to one of several endings (as of this writing, there are nine). Inventory object puzzles are closely integrated within the story and may also affect the story outcomes depending on how you choose to use them.
Development
The Empress of Aeser is currently in active development. We are raising support through our Patreon, which you can find here (there are also many public posts). We are also planning a funding campaign (most likely Kickstarter) for the Spring. The demo (comprising most of Act I), is currently available to Patreon supporters, and will be made public when we begin raising funds. Or you can pay a dollar and play the demo early.
