Yes, I remember stating last time that it may be the last edition of, “India’s Oscars” as I’ve heard many call it…yet, since Indie’s resolved ‘Indies All-time Hindis’ List taking more time than envisaged (100 Years of Hindi cinema, is bloody long!), decided that since movie reviewing happening incessantly (alongside other ‘living exigencies’ of course) anyway, as also for the current year.. what the heavens!!;

So here we go, tighten your seat belts, as we go for a little flying tour through the year’s national artistic clouds…& be assured plenty rains!

P.S. 1. A few alterations & additions from last year – 3 new categories introduced to encourage the film writing fraternity, namely Best screenplay, Best Lyrics, & Best Scene. And erstwhile ‘Best Designed Film’ renamed as ‘Best Visual Film’.

The award format albeit, same as refurbished from last year ie 10 main awards (incl joint awards) & 10 spl mentions thereafter in each category.

Considering the new format addition to films- The web series phenomena! Hereon, all film categories will auto-include web-series(seasons) for the year, looking at them as 4-5 times length films-in-one.

Welcome world, to another Year-End Awards Extravaganza.. "THE INDIES 2021", aka "THE INDIES ASHES 2021", also reputed as "THE BOLLYWOOD/HINDI OSCARS" !

Another highly satisfying year for both the Film & Web-Series spaces, operating for past half decade now within the Bollywood ecosystem.

The rating pts for era-ending director & actor rankings are as always : 1st place - 10.5 pts ; 2nd place - 4.7 pts ; 3rd place - 1.5 pts ; 4th place - 0.4 pts.

Also as always, just to remind Indie viewers, while Best Web Series & Best Film arenas are separate adjudications, being different effect zones… the creative aspects (ie direction & visuals & story & acts) are clubbed together, as the same for both.

And need we remind audiences of the age-old Indie motto, of rewarding quality not quantity, this year as a result producing one of the highest winners tallies at Indies, with 21 male & 14 worthy female performances, making the cut for the Indie Trophy!

This year noteworthy for producing some really outstanding performances even within the macho acting sphere, alongside some truly slice-of-life high professionals acting, alongside the inspirational orbit.

In films section, a peculiar time, in throwing up lots in really interesting & notable (even Indies award winning now!) 'Indie' work, lauded in the festival & international circuit, yet under the Indian masses radar, that hopefully the Indies Awards can help throw more light on. Also via web series arena, arising a critical mass of high concept content, necessitating a separate 'Best Story/Screenplay' Awards section!

P.S. : A peculiar trend emerging in Bollywood circles, for those keeping a keen eye on it, is the slew of (~ 50-70%) content equally dedicated to the LGBTQ, esp lesbian community & secondly the druggie communities. We'll leave it to the audiences to imagine if the truth lay in art imitating life or film industry life, or some sorta larger agenda at play. And ofcourse there be nothing wrong at all, in any content on LGBTQ community whatsoever, just an observation worthy of mention, given just its scale of representation!

Welcome one & all, to this, the 8th continuous year of the most prestigious & popular (contemporary) online annual Bollywood Film Awards, of the entire awards season, this whole decade-

The Indies.

NOTE: This year's scrolls, unlike past couple of years, do not include the web series segment, which saw it's boom period during the international pandemic induced lockdown for precisely those 2 years, a consequent dip in big quality film productions & produce, that in turn enabled lotsa screen talent to temporarily shift to the web space with much more confined production settings, causing lot more high quality & novel produce here…a level that's under normal circumstances since, somehow seen a drastic dip in collective work, thus causing Indies to take a call in favor of avoiding that segment entirely hereon, or atleast this year. That's not to say a few good productions may not've seen light of day, yet not enough to warrant a entire dedicated Indies awards show for the same.

As also no turnout worth any reckoning on the music front, putting paid to that space too for today.

A year marked most uniquely by the nationwide boycott of Bollywood films at the box office, done for a variety of reasons we can't precisely put a finger on, yet that had an extraordinary (read crippling) effect on overall Bollywood earnings for the year, yet since we're not in business of awarding business, rather awarding art, let's get back to our sole area of focus.

This year seeing a very strong showing from a few dubbed South Indian works (released in North & West Indian theaters), & few made in multiple languages incl of South, that not only escaped the boycott wrath, but also found favor on the art front here.

Around the same 30-odd films making it to the elite Indie watchlist here, as for most years, & a similar large pool of winners for all categories in keeping with the now worldly known 'no ceiling on quality' Indies philosophy, except the actresses section seeing only one winner after long!

“Unbelievable.”

Arnav tossed the file onto the small table. Across the outdoor setting by the poolside, Aakash raised an eyebrow.

“Bhai?”

“The new secretary said this is the Mehta and Mehta file when she handed it to me. These are the Singhania documents.”

“I might have …” his brother rummaged through a stack of folders. “No, I don’t have it. But I do have the proofs for the calendar photos for you to review. The ones that were delayed.”

Arnav flicked through the file distractedly after accepting it.

A photo of Lisa toying suggestively with the hem of her dress, “Okay.”

Lisa pouting at the camera, “Okay.”

Khushi —

He stilled. The photographer had caught her looking straight into the lens, one hand raised to tuck her hair behind her ear. The image evoked a memory of the midnight tresses flying in an artificial breeze, unshed tears in her eyes. Tears he’d caused. The second image was of Khushi looking away from the camera. The smile on her lips was a revelation but his mind offered a memory as if in counterpoint; the plea in her eyes as she’d silently begged for reprieve from his intimidation.

And his body reacted as it had that night, desire pulsing through him as he imagined the pallu of her sari slipping to reveal the curves of her body.

“Oh wow,” Di had approached unnoticed. “Khushi modelled for our company?”

Arnav hastily closed the file as she dropped into a chair and continued.

“She looks so lovely, doesn’t she?”

She looks fucking beautiful.

As usual, Di didn’t require an answer.

“Chhote,” she drawled, throwing a mischievous smile in Aakash’s direction, “do you know what Nani would say if she saw you looking at these photos?”

Aakash opened his mouth as if to interrupt but Di didn’t see as she imitated Nani’s tone, “At least Chhote has moved on from that Kashyap lady and is looking at photos of other girls.”

Di’s teasing caused something brittle inside him to crack.

“We’re no longer together,” he said softly.

Aakash sighed, “Sorry, Di. I tried to tell you.”

His sister placed her hand on his arm, her eyes roving over his features, “Chhote, what happened that you’re suddenly saying this?”

“It’s fine, Di. We decided it was for the best.”

“Are you sure, Bhai?”

Arnav glanced at his brother, “Yes.”

The look Di and Aakash exchanged was laden with meaning.

“Chhote, you must have fought with Lavanya. These small tiffs don’t mean—”

“— We didn’t fight. We’re just not a couple anymore.”

“I’m worried about you,” his sister frowned, “I thought something was wrong when she didn’t come for the anniversary party. You can’t go through life so alone, Chhote. You need someone who understands you, who’ll be there for you.”

Arnav suppressed a noise of annoyance in this throat, “I don’t want to talk about this right now.”

“Okay, Bhai,” Aakash stood. “Di.”

Their sister followed reluctantly, pausing often to cast worried glances his way. When he was alone, Arnav slammed the photos onto the table and closed his eyes. Immediately, memories of that night attacked him. Khushi under the bright lights of the stage, her hair fluttering around her face. The red sari hugging her hips and the swell of her breasts.

His eyes snapped open.

Damn.

He’d tried to forget. He’d tried to ignore the business card that’d burned a hole in his pocket for the last three days.

Arnav Singh Raizada is not so weak that he cannot forget one girl.

And yet, he dreamt of her.

Not the soft-focus, desaturated memories that haunted his waking hours. These were raw, darkly sensual thoughts accompanied with vivid imagery of her skin, her hair, her lips. Her cries in the darkness as he took her over the edge of pleasure again and again. And again.

She held him in those dreams. Promised she’d never let go. And he found he could not stay away.

He made the first call two days later — minutes after waking — dialling the number printed on the business card before his thoughts could catch up to his actions. It rang unanswered until sense made him cut the call. And that should’ve been the end of it except that he tried again that afternoon. This time he ended the call midway through the first ring.

Then there were the pearls. He still wasn’t sure why he’d stored the relics of their first meeting in his cupboard, but he found himself toying with the small box more often than he’d ever admit. Sometimes they felt like a challenge — as if Khushi Kumari Gupta was taunting him from hundreds of kilometres away. Sometimes, they felt like weakness, as if he should’ve known better.

Sometimes, they felt like a promise.

News of the breakup travelled like wildfire in his home, so it was a surprise that Jija-ji waited until later in the week to knock on his door. Arnav paused in the middle of loosening his tie.

“No, I don’t want to talk about it.”

“That’s okay,” his brother-in-law gave a good-natured shrug.

Arnav watched in frozen amazement as the other man navigated the length of the room to settle on the edge of his bed. The injury Jija-ji had sustained on his trip was healing quickly, though he still used a walking stick for support. Rousing himself with a mental shake, Arnav flung off his tie and wrenched the top-most button on his shirt open.

“Calm down, Saale-Sahib.”

A sidelong glance at his Jija-ji as he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, “Have you heard what Nani said? Is it so necessary that I start looking for a bride? Don’t my wishes carry any weight? I don’t want to marry. Nani will have to understand this.”

The tremble of Khushi’s bottom lip as she stared up at him flashed into his mind. He ignored it.

“Again with the same argument, Saale-Sahib,” Jija-ji sighed. “In her mind, there is no other way. And the community has begun whispering now that everyone knows that you were with Lavanya and broke it off.”

“I don’t care about what the community thinks.”

“But Nani needs to hold her head up high. You were together on Teej. People will ask questions.”

A storm of memories. Khushi in his arms, her head resting on his shoulder as he walked up the temple steps. His hand in her hair, her lips on the rim of the glass. A hollow in his chest, the ache of something left unsaid. The questions in her eyes as he took the puja thaal from her hands.

Arnav was saved from replying by the arrival of a tray of tea things in the hands of Jai-Prakash.

“I didn’t ask for that.”

“I asked for it,” Jija-ji smiled. “Place it here.”

Jai-Prakash grimaced an apology at Arnav as he set the tray down before leaving the room.

“Now, Saale-Sahib, the tea is here so you may as well have a cup,” a smiling gesture from Jija-ji. “Come and sit with me.”

Arnav wanted to growl at him, but there was too much respect in his heart for this man. He accepted the cup his brother-in-law offered and fiddled with its delicate handle as he spoke.

“It’s my life. You know me, you know my views on marriage aren’t those of others. I don’t want to get married because of societal pressure. Forget that, I don’t even believe in marriage.”

He sipped before continuing, “Everyone has their own views. My views are just as important to me as Nani’s. I want to live life my own way.”

“I know, Saale-Sahib,” Jija-ji made a placating gesture. “But isn’t it just as important to abide by the wishes of our elders? You can live your own life while respecting their desires. Try it her way for a while.”

Jija-ji reacted to his scathing look with a chuckle, “Try to understand, my brother! Look, even glaciers melt. And Nani will surely change her ways when she sees you’re making an effort. Who knows, she may even come around to your way of thinking. I learnt early in life that if we want to safeguard our future, we have to think carefully about the decisions we make today. We shouldn’t take any steps, especially on a whim, that we’ll regret in the future. Saale-Sahib, don’t forget that the arrow shot from a bow, and the words that leave our lips, can never be taken back. And life doesn’t have a rewind button that you can press to undo your mistakes.”

Arnav stood, heart pounding and fingers curled into fists as he took a few steps away from the bed. Flashes of memory left a bitter taste in his mouth — the broken pearl dori and her ensuing tears, her fall from his office window, broken bangles at the guesthouse. And her parting words —

“You hate me, don’t you? Hate my lack of status? You don’t want to see my face? Then be happy. Because I’m going away from you forever. I’m returning to Lucknow. Forever.”

He didn’t fight the wave of regret that rose like a spectre in his chest, unforgiving and relentless and ready to haunt him for yet another night. Instead, he made a vow.

I can’t undo it, but I can make it right.

Iman Crosson

Iman Crosson (born March 27, 1982), better known by his stage name Alphacat, is an American actor, impressionist and YouTube personality and is known for his impersonations of former U.S. President Barack Obama and his starring role in independent film Along the Roadside.

On December 14, 2005, a 23-year-old Crosson opened a YouTube account with screen name Alphacat. In July 2008, at the urging of his fellow waiters Crosson created spoof videos of then U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama.

During the summer of the 2008 U.S. Presidential election campaign, Crosson's 30-second video won Denny's Restaurant's nationwide contest for the best impressionist of the then-candidate Barack Obama. He said that he "went from unemployed to self-employed in literally a matter of a month." Crosson moved from New York to California, obtained an agent specializing in helping talent cross over from online to mainstream, and was invited to be on America's Got Talent.

On YouTube, Crosson specialized in mashing up his Obama impersonations with hip-hop songs, his spoofs of Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" and T.I.'s "Whatever I Like" being viewed 20 million times each.

After Obama's January 2009 inauguration, Crosson was featured on several entertainment and news television shows, blogs and newspapers. Crosson was called a "YouTube sensation" by Fox News' Neil Cavuto.

Crosson's post-inaugural work included voice-overs in Newsweek's The District, a video series in which Crosson narrated Obama's first months in Washington from the President's point of view. Crosson impersonated Obama at the 66th Annual Radio and Television Correspondents' Association Dinner on March 17, 2010.

In October 2012, Crosson performed as Obama in the YouTube series Epic Rap Battles of History in the "Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney" episode, the music single of which was certified gold by the RIAA. Additionally, Crosson appeared as President Broccoli Obama in an episode of The Annoying Orange.

In December 2013, Crosson contributed to an Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") health care exchange's "Tell a friend – Get covered" social media campaign for raising awareness among young Americans to enroll in Obamacare-compliant health insurance, by releasing a video spoof of Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot."

In February 2014, YouTube content creators including Crosson met with U.S. President Obama at the White House to discuss ways in which government could connect with the content creators' viewers, concerning awareness of and enrollment in health insurance policies and other issues.

On May 28, 2014 Crosson as well as other YouTubers and Viners, Andrew Bachelor (King Bach) and DeStorm Power appeared in will.i.am's Vine music video for "It's My Birthday" ft. Cody Wise.

Crosson played the male lead role in the independent film Along the Roadside with supporting actor Michael Madsen, the film debuting at the February 2013 FEST with its commercial release on March 17, 2015.

Crosson played U.S. President Barack Obama in the 2016 Bollywood comedy sequel, Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive, which was filmed in Mumbai, India.

Die Fahrt ins Auenland dauert etwa 1,5 Stunden und mit jedem Kilometer wird die Landschaft beeindruckender. Nach Ihrer Ankunft melden Sie sich im Büro an und fahren anschließend mit dem Kleinbus über privates Farmland. Je nach Abfahrtsort dauert die Anreise nach Hobbiton etwa zwei bis drei Stunden.

Über die liebevoll angelegen Wege gehen wir vorbei an kleineren und größeren Hobbithöhlen, vorbei an Seen und Bächen bis rauf zu Bilbos “Haus”. Von hier oben hat man einen traumhaften Blick über das ganze Dorf, sogar das Lokal “Green Dragon” kann man von hier sehen.
