Forgot to post it here but I have obtained the Cactus Sphere (Tephrocactus geometricus).

It’s rooting nicely and I look forward to putting it outside this summer.

My Orb Stack is putting out more orblets!!!

This is Tephrocactus alexanderi (T. geometricus in the horticultural trade), a cactus in the same subfamily as Opuntia. From what I understand they can be finicky sometimes so I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to acclimate this one properly since I’ve had issues before with cactuses I bought as plants and not seed but this one made it!!! I’m glad to see it put out more branches instead of stalling forever like my other ones.

The seller recommended not watering it for half the year, only starting in May and watering throughout the summer. I had tried to grow this one from seed but had too much trouble keeping the seedlings alive.

I bought new plants at the cacti & succulent expo!

- Snek ( Avonia papyracea )

- Football ball ( Tephrocactus geometricus )

- Pet rock ( Pseudolithos migiurtinus )

- Upside down pinneaple ( Copiapoa hypogaea var. Barquitensis )

I think internalized sexism is when you meet a cool plant vendor at a pop up market and they clearly love and know a lot about plants which is more than you can say for other vendors you've met and they answer all your questions enthusiastically until you point to a scrunkly little cactus that catches your eye and ask what it is and they sheepishly admit they don't know they've been trying to ID it for ages and gotten nowhere, and then you buy the cactus and bring it home and within five seconds of googling the first words that come to mind you find out exactly what it is, and then you spend a much longer time worrying about exactly how long you should wait before messaging the vendor to tell them what it is because you don't want to embarrass them with the fact it was so easy.

Anyway little guy on the left seems to be Tephrocactus articulatus aka pinecone cactus.

(Meanwhile I still don't remember names of any of the rosette succulents. I just thought the other two were pretty.)

(This is all in jest btw. The vendor had very good vibes both as a plant seller and as a person.)

I've had this cactus for about a year. Finally it gives me new growth! It's wild how much things grow when one's busy and not paying attention.

I am still waiting with bated breath, especially since it seems that the others aren’t rooting well or their radicles are shriveling, but I have at least one seemingly healthy Tephrocactus geometricus (purple variant) seedling! (8 days after sowing.)

It looks like a little totoro friend with its stumpy cotyledons. 🥺🥺🥺

The adults looks like living golf balls stacked together!
