So. In The Sunbearer Trials (no spoilers for the sequel except at the VERY end). Diosa Lumbre like- very obviously doesn't want her son hanging out with jades, and that's why she and Auristela convince Aurelio to stop talking to Teo. But what if it's more complicated than that? What if Diosa Lumbre had someone once- before the twins' father- who she loved. A jade diosa she wished to spend the rest of eternity with. But one day, they got in a fight, and Diosa Lumbre lost control. She was too powerful for the jade diosa to have a chance against, and while dioses can't die, Lumbre's love was lost to this plane forever, her physical form reduced to ash. She went to Sol for help, but Sol warned her that healing the past only leads to it being forgotten. One day, Lumbre would have a child, one whose destiny it was to lead to the sacrifice of a jade. So, Lumbre remembered. She kept all of her children away from the jade semidioses. Until Aurelio. It didn't matter how much she scolded him; Aurelio would always run back to Teo. So, Lumbre told him of his destiny. She warned him that, if he continued like this, he would one day kill Teo because of his strength. She convinced Auristela to keep an eye on him. Aurelio was good. He stayed away from Teo to keep him safe.

Years later, when he saw the crown above Teo's head, he realized that everything he did to keep his friend safe from him was in vain. That it was their destiny to be atop the Sol Temple together at the end of the trials. Aurelio did all he could to ensure that wouldn't happen. He helped Teo train and gave him advice just so he wouldn't have to plunge the obsidian blade into the heart of the jade, just as his mother had warned.

(then in Celestial Monsters the jade whose sacrifice Aurelio led to ended up being Dios Suerte, but hey, at least he didn't directly murder the boy he loved like he always thought he would)
