Another day, Charles and you woke up feeling the absence of a body in your bed.
"Has he gone out for a run again?" you asked as you approached Charles's bare torso.
"I think so," he nodded, his voice sleepy. You leaned against Charles's chest to see the clock on the nightstand, eliciting a groan from one of your boyfriends.
"It's seven in the morning," you said, almost in a groan yourself.
You collapsed onto the bed, planting a kiss where your hand had rested before. You stretched out, and Charles slipped out of bed, putting on one of Max's Red Bull t-shirts. Before leaving the room, he kissed you on the forehead and then on your bare collarbone. You stayed in bed a little longer, dozing off while Charles prepared breakfast, as he did every morning. The winter break was your favorite time of the year. After being stressed all season with work, going back and forth, and spending weeks without seeing them, these months were the best gift.
Your days revolved around having breakfast together when Max returned from his run. Then, you would make love leisurely and shower together. If you felt like it, you would go shopping or play paddle tennis, then return home to cook together. The boys would then train in the sim or at the gym, and you would usually go for a walk with your friends or even train with them. Although when that happened, it often ended up in a long cardio session in bed. And to end the day, you would go out for dinner at some fancy place in Monaco and then drink and dance at a club.
That morning, Max took a little longer to arrive, but when he walked in, it seemed like a cold smoke followed him. It was mid-December, and it had been a cold winter in Monaco.
Max entered the kitchen and kissed Charles and then you. You noticed his outfit. "Aren't you cold, love?" You looked him up and down, with his short shorts and tank top clinging to his body from the cold sweat.
"Nah," he denied, brushing it off and wiping the sweat from his forehead.
You didn't think much of it until you went to open the window in your room and received a gust of cold air from outside. You were attentive to your boyfriend's behavior for the rest of the day, noticing how he had sneezed several times in the last hour or how, after the shower, he seemed even more tired than usual.
At noon, while Charles was preparing pasta for lunch, you went to Max, who was lying on the couch.
"How are you, love?" You sat next to him, intertwining your arm with his, and noticed - or rather heard - as Max sniffed his nose.
"Fine, why'd you ask?" Max furrowed his brow, feigning confusion.
"Oh, no reason," you shrugged, running a hand through his hair. "I just notice you seem tired."
Charles had an ear on the conversation, also noticing that Max was probably brewing something and hadn't mentioned it for some stereotypical nonsense he thought.
"No, no. Don't worry, schat," Max assured. "I'll go help you now."
He leaned in to kiss you, but at that moment, he started coughing heavily. You let out a sweet laugh and went over to Charles.
"Char, I think our Max is getting sick," you nodded, while Charles put an arm around your waist.
"It can't be!" Charles exclaimed, pretending to be surprised.
"No!" Max jumped in immediately, stood up, and practically ran towards them, swaying a little. "I'm not getting sick."
Max let out a heavy breath and leaned on the counter, catching his breath that he had lost in the four steps he had taken.
"I see," Charles commented, walking past him and giving him a gentle pat on the butt.
"Max, why don't you go lie on the couch? We'll take care of this," you suggested with a comforting smile.
Max rolled his eyes in a very exaggerated way and crossed his arms as you and Charles looked at each other and smiled knowingly.
"I'm going to the sim, I can see I'm not wanted here," he said, with a somewhat sad look.
When Max left, Charles and you looked at each other. "Is he mad?" you asked, leaning on Charles's shoulder and hugging him from behind while he cooked.
"Nah, he just thinks he's the strong one in the relationship," He gave you a soft kiss on the forehead.
In all the time you had been together, you had never seen Max weak. You had seen Charles cry and complain countless times over any little thing. But Max? That man seemed like a piece of iron when it came to feelings. He hadn't even cried at the end of How To Train Your Dragon, and although to some extent the image of a strong guy and the pillar of the relationship was fine, you were dying to see his softer side.
Twenty minutes later, Charles had finished cooking the pasta, and you went to the room where the sim set was.
"Charles, come see this," you called. He came immediately, finding Max totally asleep in the chair, with the car crashed in the first curve of the Monaco Grand Prix.
"Do we wake him up?" Charles whispered, looking at him lovingly.
"Wait," You approached him carefully, taking a picture of him. "Okay, wake him up," you smiled.
Charles began to leave soft kisses on Max's cheek and lips, even lightly biting his earlobe. The sleeping man let out a loud gasp and practically jumped up from the chair.
"Hey, easy, easy," Charles said, putting his hands on his shoulders.
"How you doing, sleeping beauty?" you said.
"I wasn't sleeping,"
"Oh, sure not," Charles said, with a little smile. "Wanna come eat with us?"
"Yeah, just give me a minute," Max nodded, stifling a yawn.
Both Charles and you heard him blowing his nose for almost two minutes straight. Max appeared in the living room, trying to pretend he was fine, but his reddened nose gave him away.
He helped set the table. "What are we going to do this afternoon?" the blonde asked before blowing his nose.
Charles and you exchanged glances, knowing that if you didn't do anything, Max would keep insisting he was perfectly fine.
"I don't feel like going out today," you commented calmly.
"Yeah, me neither," Charles agreed.
Both saw the look of relief on Max's face. "Oh, okay. Well, nothing then," he pretended.
"We can watch a movie," you suggested, shrugging.
After lunch, you cuddled up on the couch, and you chose the movie. You noticed Max moving closer to you, resting his head on your shoulder, which was usually the other way around. Towards the end of the movie, you heard Max sniffling repeatedly, and you didn't even consider that they could be tears until you saw Max wiping his face.
You glanced at him. "Are you crying?"
"Noā¦" Max muttered with a thin voice.
Charles looked at them. "You're crying!" he exclaimed, and quickly changed positions, with Max now in the middle.
"It's justā¦ he found someone who loves him," he said between tears, pointing at the TV. "Like I love you guys."
Charles and you looked at each other with a pout, immediately showering him with kisses. You were watching Shrek.
"Wait, wait, I don't wanna get you sick," Max said, denying the kisses.
Charles backed off a bit in surprise. "Are you admitting you're sick?"
"Of course I'm sick, look at me,"
They chuckled a little, and you got up to get some cough syrup and ibuprofen for your boyfriend, finally. It barely took a minute, but when you returned, Max was lying on Charles's chest while he stroked his hair.
"Did he fall asleep again?" you whispered.
"I think so, come here," Charles stretched out his hand, and you wrinkled your nose a bit.
"I don't want to wake him up,"
Charles rolled his eyes. "Come here, mon ange," he repeated.
You stretched out on the couch, under Charles's arm and covering Max with a blanket. From where you were, you could see Max sleeping perfectly.
"It's so cute to see him like this," you whispered to Charles, while he gave you kisses on your jaw and ear.
"Isn't it?" Charles agreed. "And get ready for tomorrow because he's going to be clingier than ever."
"It's like he's been waiting for this moment all my life," you said, with a radiant smile.
Charles chuckled slightly, causing Max to move a bit, letting out a moan and falling back asleep immediately.

A rundown of pithy pending Letterboxd reviews I have for Challengers (2024) d. Luca Guadanino
This is the "I Don't Dance" sequence from High School Musical 2 on crack cocaine
Is this what Lorde was talking about when she said "let's go down to the tennis court so we can talk it out like yeah"?
On all levels except physical, those people were having SEX on that tennis court
In my sophomore year of college, the professor of my Dada and Surrealism class insisted that anything, (in this case, a truck,) could be interpreted as a phallus if you try hard enough. Using this perspective has made watching movies 1000000x times more enjoyable. Case and point: that churro scene.
Checkov's "I fucked your wife" ball to racket move my beloved

Challengers (2024) review

Thatās one way of engaging me in sport I guess.
Plot: Tashi, a tennis player turned coach, has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event -- close to the lowest level of tournament on the pro tour. Tensions soon run high whenĀ he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend and Tashi's former boyfriend.
Itās safe to say this movie has blew up the internet. Zendaya with her major fan-base starring in a threesome tennis flick thatās brought to you by the director who revealed Timothee Chalamet to the world in that queer flick that featured the infamous peach scene? Now thatās quite the selling pitch. Naturally the result is a box office success and a movie that is already taking the top spot for the most memeable motion picture of the year. And I get it, this movie is definitely provocative enough and has enough sexual tension in it to excite any viewer. Iāll refer to my friendās Letterboxd review for this movie with him saying the following: āIāve found recently that hormones in films plays a factor in how much I like the film and this film is very hornyā. Right, letās not delve too deep into my friendās evident sexual frustration, but he is not wrong that this movie reaches peak horny levels. Every scene is imbued with the steamy appetites of its central trio of characters. Like damn to these people want to f*ck hard big time! This should not come as a surprise though, as this follows a very similar formula to Luca Guadagninoās other films, stoking the appetite of the youth to provide an open forum for unbridled desire to let loose. Call Me by Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, A Bigger Splash - every single one of these features tackles themes of sensuality and elegance. You know exactly what youāre getting into with a Guadagnino movie and Challengers is no exception.
That being said, with Challengers the actual narrative serves itself perfectly for a trashy B-movie experience, however it is thanks to Guadagninoās directorial prowess that the film rises above that and becomes a truly cinematic experience. This thing looks great, and I donāt mean due to the lovely actors present, but the camerawork and the scene framework. The way the sweat drops off peopleās faces in slow motion and the camera lingers on their stoic yet thoughtful facial expressions to the impressive tennis match scenes with a particular impressive sequence involving the scene being shown for, the perspective of the tennis ball whichā¦.I donāt know how the hell they managed it but that was awesome! Also need to mention the great techno score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross that creates an unlikely pairing in electronic dance music and classical, with the result really amping up the energy of every moment. Honestly from a technical standpoint this movie is a marvel.
In regards to the narrative that is where we start running into some trouble. For starters this movie did not need to be over 2 hours. The story was simple enough to shrink down to a 100 min max run-time, but instead the film opts to really dial in on extended pointless shots that linger way too long, so much so that I noted multiple audience members looking at their mobile phones to check the time. Secondly those excessive time jumps. Telling a story in a non-linear fashion can be a useful story-telling device, but here it was used way too much that it became distracting. Like there was a time jump back and forth every 5 minutes, with some jumps sprawling 13 years, which made it really difficult to get engaged in certain moments. Speaking of the 13 years, bless Zendayaās heart but as much as they tried to age and de-age her through hair and make-up, she never looked older than 19 years regardless of the time era. For all of the filmās technical achievements youād think theyād put more effort in the make-up department.
As for the actors, whilst I admire Zendaya for tackling such a meaty and, dare I say, challenging role, I feel like sheās too young in her acting career to be able to fully perform a weathered, jaded, cynical, ruthless and calculating character like Tashi. It seemed for the most part she relied on having a resting scowl face, but otherwise I found it actually hard to believe any of her chemistry with her male co-stars. As for the male co-stars, out of this love triangle it was in fact the queer relationship that really popped. Props to Mike Faist (who was a highlight for me in the recent West Side Story remake) and Josh OāConnor whose chemistry was through the roof! The way they looked at one another, to the churros to the way OāConnor smoothly moved Faistās stool closer to his with his footā¦ā¦ they can say they are best friends all they want but we just know they are both aching for those benefits! Again itās how strong of performances these two give that hinders Zendaya who is nowhere close to their level.
Challengers overall is an entertaining enough youthful erotic crowd -pleaser that from a filmmaking standpoint looks fantastic, however due to the narrative structure and Zendayaās arguable miscast this movie falters. That being said to Tom Holland, dude, Iāve seen your social media posts about being excited to support your girlfriend and going to see this movie, but dude, I bet your cried your eyes out after. Spider-Man - she aināt coming home!
Overall score: 6/10

hiiii omg i saw ur a film nerd in ur about me post and so am i !! whats ur favourite movie/s :P
hello!!! and yes omg i always LOVE answering this question lmao so first and foremost:
my letterboxd top 4 <3 !

( explanations and honorable mentions under the cut ! )
1. little women (2019)
watched it with three of my best friends when it first was in theaters so that definitely added to the message and experience watching it. i love how greta gerwig directed the sister dynamic. sheās gone on record on interviews and also if you can find the screenplay itself that in the script the actorsā lines were written on top of one another to reflect the spontaneity and chaos of sisterhood and family through the filmās dialogue. so genius?!?! this adaptation just felt so real and genuine and i also see a little of myself in all the sisters š«¶
2. challengers
UGH i did like a whole deep dive here but in short: luca guadagnino you absolute mastermind. i love tennis, i love colorgraded film and photography, i love hot people!!!! story was insane, i quite literally had to sit in my car for like half an hour just processing when i got out the movie house before i felt normal enough to drive home lol.
3. emma (2020)
again i did a thorough tedtalk on this one. but iām a big jane austen fan!!! and the aesthetics and score on this adaptation were just off the charts and so so lovely. love the regency era and i think they translated it to screen in a very appealing and classic (although maybe not entirely historical but hey itās art) way. iāll always come back to it as my comfort movie ngl.
4. call me by your name
amazing story. (not a love story mind you!!!) which is actually why it stuck with me sm bc i went in with my hopeless romantic self just to be fuckin crushed. watched it two summers ago and it took me like weeks to recover, it broke my heart in a way that felt so good. also just a downright beautiful film all around (colorgrade, cinematography, acting, music, everything!!). in guadagnino we trust!!!
honorable mentions:
watching the detectives (!!!)
lucy liu and cillian murphy? ummm FUCK YES? my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE in the romcom genre to date. they just match each otherās freak. and the whole movie is abt being film nerdy and awkward and weird and manic pixie dream girl and like lowkā¦. so ro-core fr!
shape of water
ok donāt call me a freak, it was pretty interestingā from the aesthetics, to the minimal dialogue, to the overall story. itās a doozy but imo that shit was art. (or guillermo del toro was the real freak all along)
spirited away
my fav ghibli film bc itās just so haunting in a way none of the other ghibli films are and i like that. like the way some of those characters were drawn was lowk grossābut i find that kinda gnarly. so over the top fantastical it makes my brain tingle in a certain way.
isle of dogs
my fav wes anderson film in both stop motion or live action (my fav live action of his was the most recent asteroid city tho!). truly art and has such a heartwarming story but at the same time the DRAMA. my lord. crazy how captivating the story was even if half of it was in largely unsubtitled japaneseāunique choice but i actually liked what it added to the movie a lot especially considering the movieās pov from an english-speaking dog. iām actually a big cat person but i finished that movie so convinced that fuck yeah that dog is manās bsf right there
the amazing spiderman movies
andrew garfieldās spiderman is my fav <3 but also i love the darker feel to this version of spiderman. maybe itās bc iām also a big batman/dc fan (sorry my marvel babes </3) and generally those movies have been handled with a more dark tone. but nonetheless andrew garfield is hot too so thatās a plus!
cruella
iām lowk a disney hater but this movie was SO. CUNTY. fuck i loved it. the actors were amazing and the visuals and the FASHION were just mwah, especially compared to other disney live action films (š).
maleficent & maleficent: mistress of evil
AGAIN, SO FUCKING CUNTY even if iām a reluctant disney enjoyer. i watched the first installment when i was real young but in 3d at the movie house. SO COOL. watched the second one with my mom at home. IMMEDIATELY WATCHED IT AGAIN. angelina jolie is maleficent, n i love how these movies characterize the villain in such a genuinely human way i donāt think anyone couldāve seen coming when these babies first came out.
ok thats it finally š

#š” š®ššøšÆš¼š
#šŖ“ šæš¼ šæš²š°š¼šŗšŗš²š»š±š !#š šæš¼ š“š²šš š³š¶š¹šŗ šÆš»š®šŖš“š#this is probably more than you were expecting š#but if you want like my immediate recs#itās my top 4 <3

hiiii!!! i wanted to do the ship thing because i am a HOPELESS romantic and that just rocked my world tbh. ALSO CONGRATS!!!!! š š„³šš»ššš»
pairing: romantic
star sign: aries
personality: i think im a pretty fun gal. from what i know im somewhat of a comedy genius but i donāt want to start flattering myself TOO much here! honestly im just down to have a good time with whoever, whenever, and wherever (if that makes sense?) i am a theatre MANIAC. i spend pretty much all my free time in theatre and dare i say im quite good. i also ended myself up on the tennis team even though its been a couple months since ive played (we will just see where that goes) I LOVE photography (itās in my BLOOOD.) i have a whole insta account for it and sports photography really became my passion (or one of them Iām a woman of many talents) im also on yearbook and i love that, im in choir, and for some reason im on the debate team. other hobbies are really making bracelets for my friends, watching movies (letterboxd warrior), TALKING to friends (I spent 8 hours FaceTiming my friends yesterday and I didnāt even realize), and i would say im a Spotify legend.
as for the rest of my personality, I would say Iām a pretty happy person. I have been through some very rough friendships with people who are pessimistic, so I try my best to keep AWAY from that at all costs. Iām also pretty mature/ an old soul. From the ripe age of like 5 Iāve been told that I am an old soul (honestly I donāt know how you can tell at THAT age but cool!) I feel things very deeply, but I also rely on logic more so than feeling sometimes. (Unless we are involving some sort of romance I will lose control of logic and immediately make the best decision for my emotions) other music artists I like besides BTS are the beatles, tame impala, red velvet, and Taylor swift. (Music is just a big part of my personality I thought you should know.)
Appearance: Iām blonde and Iām 5ā5 with green eyes. I would say I am about medium or average sized? (Iāve dealt with chronic illness and the body changes that come with that so itās fluctuated over time.) I also have PALE skin (Edward Cullen core). I am all around quite the looker. I am sorry. I do not want to flatter myself but I am just going with the information I have been given. I feel narcissistic and TRUST that is not me. Anyways, Iām always wearing athletic shorts and a shirt with the BEST shoes (my school has a uniform so the shoe game has to be on POINT so besides that my style is really casual and basic)
I think that about sums up who I am. I am ITCHING to know which bulletproof Boy Scout would like me (but absolutely no pressure I just DEVOUR your work LMAO) have an awesome day šÆšÆšÆšÆšÆšÆšÆ
I would ship you with Hobi, Yoongi, and a bit with Jin!
You share a lot of qualities with Hobi and Jin that I think would make you a pretty good match with either of them. I feel like they would really love your energy and enthusiasm(also Aquarius and Saggitarius are a good balance to your Aries energy)
Yoongiās also an old soul with a deep passion for music, and I think he would also appreciate your energy(similar to his friendship with Hobi)
Hope this was okayš

What are some movies you've seen lately that you'd recommend ?
i actually don't watch a lot of movies?? i'm much more likely to turn on a tv show or a podcast than i am to put on a movie. the movies i do tend to see are all new ones that i typically see in theatres with my brother. i do have a letterboxd where i track the movies i watch (and rewatch) these days, so i can tell you that i've only watched 12 so far this year.
some highlights that i've seen this year:
SOCIETY OF THE SNOW was phenomenal but, obviously, incredibly harrowing as it dealt with the uruguayan rugby team that crashed in the andes and were stranded for 3 months. the film is beautifully filmed, the actors are amazing, and it told the story earnestly without feeling like it was salacious or preoccupied with the gruesomeness. this is a foreign film but i recommend watching it in the original language with subtitles obviously if you choose to watch it, a trigger warning for cannibalism, death, blood, injuries, body horror, etc.
CHALLENGERS is all over twitter and tumblr, including my own, so i imagine this is not news to you but i loved it!! very much a character study of these three tennis players who's lives and loves are inextricably entangled with each other. this letterboxd review gets at it better than i ever could but the film is v much an exploration of the choices you make and the consequences of those very same choices, of the people you love and lose and maybe, find again. the script is great, the soundtrack intense, and mike faist, josh o'connor, and zendaya are a revelation.
ANATOMY OF A FALL won a ton of oscars this year for A REASON. very much up my alley, as it's a courtroom movie as the narrative tries to determine if our protagonist murdered her husband or not. i don't want to spoil too much about the film, but just know it's got one of the best child actor performances i've seen in recent years (and an amazing dog performance!!), a hot french lawyer, and a richly complex lead.
CIVIL WAR definitely has a lot of controversies wrapped around the film, and maybe if i'd known about them going in i might have a different opinion of the film. or maybe not! no matter what anyone else says, this film following a small group of war photographers and journalists as they try to get from new york to DC in the midst of a civil war set in a not to distant familiar america really gripped me. i went into the film not knowing much other than that nick offerman had a role, there was some nonsense around imagining a world where texas and california would be on the same side, and that it was by the same director who made ex machina and annihilation, two movies i LOVE. i had no idea it starred kirsten dunst, who is ALWAYS a pleasure to have on my screen, and cailee spaeny, who i recently loved in priscilla last year. the movie is not interested in the particulars that led to the civil war happening in the filmāthat didn't bother me, but i know it bothered others. i would still say, watching this film in theatres?? an experience. the sound design alone was awe-inspiring.
anyway. hOPE this helps! society of the snow is available on netflix, i rented anatomy of a fall when i wanted to watch it but it might be on streaming now, and i believe challengers and civil war are still in theatres.
#ask#anonymous#kat has unpopular opinions#maybe#what i'll say about civil war is i talked to a friend like a week after we'd both seen it separately#and while i went into it knowing nothing and came out loving it#he went into it knowing everything and ALSO came out loving it#he was a little conflicted about it when i talked to him he was like 'i have a lot of issues with it politically and intellectually...'#'but god DAMN i liked it!!'#so like. I FEEL LIKE that's a ringing endorsement#to each their own

my Letterboxd review of Stop Making Sense
A lot of the art-- especially music-- that is important to my spiritual life corresponds well with one of my main deities, Dionysos. And that is a crowd of people in a movie theater, where folks sit quietly 99% of the time, running to the front and dancing in a frenzy, staring up at the screen from an angle that distorts the image.
But another of the deities I feel most present in my life is Hermes. Hermes is the god of liminal space, where two things (locations, times, experiences) meet. When there was an awkward pause in conversation, the ancient Greeks would say that it was Hermes entering the room. He's present when thing get weird and confusing and make you pause and look at them in a different light. He's the messenger, the god of meaningful looks and semiotics. He's dry wit. He's the eternal traveler who looks at things as an outsider, but is simultaneously intimately familiar with inner workings and smallest details. He is also the god who escorts souls to the afterlife. All of this to say: watching Stop Making Sense tonight, I experienced a deeply resonant moment of faith that, in my final moment, Hermes will be wearing a ridiculously oversized grey suit and white tennis shoes when he greets me.
