Hace 24 años se lanza en América Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins. Un juego de acción aventura y sigilo desarrollado por Acquire y publicado por Activision para el primer PlayStation. El juego es una precuela de Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, y presenta a los héroes de la serie. Rikimaru y Ayame como adolescentes, siendo entrenados por su maestro llamado Shiunsai, así como otro ninja Azuma llamado Tatsumaru.

El juego consiste en controlar a los personajes en un ambiente 3D a través de una perspectiva en 3ra persona. El jugador puede usar una variedad de herramientas y equipo ninja, así como sigilo, para eliminar enemigos y completar las misiones del juego.

This is literally one of my favorite scenes in Tenchu 2. Rikimaru's love for Tatsumaru made him hesitant about killing him. Even though Tatsu killed their master, Riki still didn't want to kill him. He was like an older brother to him and he looked up to him :/

The PS1 - 25th Anniversary Platinum Edition

Just over a couple weeks ago the Super NES Classic Edition hit stores and, like the NES Classic Edition, is a critical success outselling all expectations Nintendo intended and raising demand to make it one of this year's most saught after consoles. Despite the obvious option of emulating on a PC within 10 minutes to access a full library of said consoles, these consoles are a reminder of how much respect and love game developers had to their craft and why their publishers were worth investing in such projects. Those aren't qualities you can simply emulate - they are earned. Most of the games stand the tests of time (as last year’s 2016 Top 100 should indicate) and it got me thinking, as many others already have speculated, if Sony would respond with their own impressive collection of classic titles.

Sony's Playstation 1, PS1, PSX, whatever you wish to call it, would be the next natural step over a proposed ‘N64 Classic’ for one simple reason - it's a better console. Yeah I know some feathers were just rattled but it's just a matter of fact in both sales and overall quality and quantity. It established more franchises, matured audiences, popularised new genres, refined others, changed the gaming industry forever, and gave people a choice much like SEGA's Genesis/Mega Drive except the difference is we're still playing Playstation today - it was future-proof because of the success of the PS1. This is why I've decided to propose my own list of games to a hypothetical 2020 release to coincidence with Playstation's 25th Anniversary (technically 25th if we cheese 1994 as the PS1's release though most remember it from 1995 onwards).

A few thoughts - to make this as objective as possible, I looked beyond my own personal preferences (sorry Jade Cocoon, Tombi!, and Bust a Groove), and instead focused on what defines the PS1 in its innovations, its history, and collected the best first-party titles, best-selling games for the console, and hand-picked what I feel represents the best for all PS1 fans new and old. Most of these games got "Platinum" status (meaning it was resold at a lower price and indicated it had sold 400k units within a year). The biggest challenge though was to make direct comparisons to the SNES Classic - after all the SNES is a much more worthy comparison than the N64 in terms of lineup so for each SNES game (Western released versions) I've proposed a PS1 counterpart. A sort of showcasing of just how valued this idea truly is to those who never experienced the Power of the Playstation.

Some of the games I would propose were disqualified for being movie/book licensed titles, related to sports, or other big businesses where video games are not the centralised part of its franchise just a part of its product line. For this reason if we were to try and get them to collaborate the PS1 Platinum would probably be overcosted and this isn't taking into account how some developers who will make the cut might get the idea their involvement is necessary so another factor was thinking which game companies do Sony have good relations with or simply own said franchise? These reasons allow for a viable PS1 Platinum not an imaginary 'dream' console you specifically want.

Before the choices a few Honorable Mentions - Broken Sword 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Croc, Wipeout 2097, Tombi!, Parasite Eve, Twisted Metal 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins, and Street Fighter Alpha 3. I wish I could include so many more but this is why I'm only one guy making the decisions 3 years in advance because it's not going to be ideal until more discussion and refinement is made so, for a first draft, I'd take this as my accurate representation of everything the Playstation 1 offers without specific interests.

Finally some bonus features included - Demo One (with the Dinosaur), Early PS1 ads (Power of the Playstation, Alien girl), Perhaps Net Yaroze Games (especially the baby bubble blaster game yeah), Origins of the PS1 - moving from SNES add-on (another reason to compare its library to the SNES) to dominating the market. It's a fascinating part of gaming history.

Anyways I hope you're listening Sony because you'd be fools not to want to make money. Here are my suggestions with their SNES counterparts:
