chatfic gojo lives and goatjo420 pls 🙏
You're an angel for requesting multiple, ily <33
Chatfic excerpt can be found here!
GOJO LIVES BITCH
Concept: It was meant to be a before and after, "came back wrong" kind of deal, inspired in part by this fanart. I only got as far as the prelude, though, when he's stuck in the prison realm (with literally two lines of dialogue post-resurrection, which I suppose I'll include below just for funsies lmao).
Excerpt:
Time is slipping. Counting has grown fruitless when every second is the same one ticking in endless circles, hoping as useless as the world that goes on without him (for days, months, years? For eternity?). Satoru contemplates it for a split second or two, maybe a minute, maybe longer, before resigning himself to this new reality where time is nothing more than a vague memory. He has to remind himself again and again that it still exists, outside this empty expanse for everyone else. Has to hope that he’s left enough of himself behind in his students to compensate for his absence. That this isn’t forever in a moment. It’s useless, this hoping, but all he has left in this wretched place.
And the two (2) lines of dialogue in question:
“How did you…” Satoru brushes the rough skin there. “You did most of the work.” Shoko puffs her cigarette. “Made it easy for me, honestly.”
I don't know if I'll revisit this one, to be honest, only because so many have done it already (and better than me). There are other concepts I'm more eager to explore! Which leads me to...
goatjo420 is online!
Concept: Okay, hear me out lmao. This one's a JJK/Black Mirror crossover, specifically the Striking Vipers episode. If you're unfamiliar, two best friends start playing a VR game together and discover it's extremely realistic and... well, fuckery ensues. Literally and figuratively lmao.
There's a lot of exploring sexuality with your best friend and coming to terms with your almost comical compatibility that's just SO stsg, I had to do it. I will finish this one day, I swear T-T
Also, a fun fact no one asked for: I replaced Striking Vipers with Tekken because I have this dumb headcanon that it's their favorite game (particularly Satoru's). That is all!
Excerpt:
goatjo420 is online! Suguru thumbs the joysticks on his controller with a groan. Bites the inside of his cheek to quiet the screaming urge to send him a request and hopes, against all that is reasonable and grounded in reality, that he’ll decide on a solo game this time. Ding! goatjo420 invited you to play Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection! Suguru lets out a dramatic sigh. The bastard just knows it’s his favorite game, and moreover that he never has time to play it anymore. Not with the kids keeping him busy every hour of the day. It’s late and he’s tired and still seeing red but, fuck, what could one game hurt, anyway? “Screw it.” Suguru taps the receiver on his temple to accept, leaning back into the couch. “What are you doing up this late?” No pretenses. Satoru scoffs. There’s music playing in the background, clipping in and out as he speaks. “Could ask you the same thing. And, what, no hello? Shit, do I mean that little to you?” “Shut up. One round and then I’m going to bed.” Suguru boots up Tekken, and adds: “I’m still pissed at you, you know.” “No! Really? Wouldn’t have guessed.” “You know what, fuck you, Sato—” “Hey, hey, don’t go logging off on me now. Look, I’ll make it up to you the next time we meet, alright?” Satoru’s mic cracks with the sound of his shifting, no doubt cozying up against his favorite pillow that costs as much as Suguru’s electricity bill. “Just kick my ass in the meantime, yeah?” And Suguru swears he can hear the smirk in his voice when he coyly adds: “If you can.”
These two have changed me fundamentally, have rewired my brain, have raised the bar for romance to such untouchable heights that I fear I may never recover. :)

Tekken 4: Game Review
With Tekken 8 dropping recently, let's look back at Tekken's legacy and one of its more forgotten entries.
When the first Tekken game was released in arcades and home consoles in 1994-95, who knew it would kick off one of the biggest fighting game franchises in the world. Upon Tekken's critical and commercial success, the game would help revolutionize 3D fighting mechanics, helping the fighting series stick out amongst its contemporaries like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. From there, Tekken would further cement itself as one of the best with its sequels, Tekken 2 and 3. Tekken 2 improved on virtually every aspect possible of its predecessor. It refined its visual style, supplied an excellent soundtrack, and added new characters like Jun Kazama, who wouldn't return for a mainline game until the latest entry, Tekken 8. And Tekken 3 managed to do everything Tekken 2 did but to higher levels. A true breakthrough for its time, genre, and series… very few fighting game competitors could match the heights it reached.
Tekken continued to astound with even more sequels and some spinoffs! 2005's Tekken 5 enhanced the gameplay, and the updated version, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, expanded the online experience. 2015's Tekken 7 utilized the power of 8th-generation consoles to make the battles and cutscenes in the story mode more gorgeous than ever. Tekken Tag Tournament 1 and 2 changed the formula by adding two fighters you can pick and switch out during fights, allowing players to fickle around with numerous combinations of teams to figure out what works best. The only dark horses of the Tekken franchise seem to be Tekken 6, with one of the weakest stories and overpowered final bosses in the series, and Tekken 4, the topic for today.
First released in arcades in 2001, then home consoles in 2002, Tekken 4 was not as well received as its predecessors or some of its sequels. What separated Tekken 4 from other entries was its dark, gritty tone in presentation and story. While the other games feature fantastical fighting stages like ancient temples or within a volcano, Tekken 4 leans more realistic with urban settings like a shopping mall or parking garage. Adding to the realism was the introduction of walled stages. In the previous entries, your character and opponent could wander endlessly without anything stopping you, but Tekken 4 introduced layouts and interactable scenery.
Tekken 4 is notable for bringing back multiple established characters like Kazuya, Heihachi, and Jin Kazama, among others, but even more so for its six new characters. These include Christie Monteiro, a friend of Eddy Gordo, also introduced in Tekken 3, who has a similar play style to him, Combot, a robot who can mimic other characters' fighting styles, Craig Marduk, a jacked Vale Tudo fighter, Miharu, a friend of Ling Xiaoyu who was also introduced in Tekken 3, boxer Steve Fox, and Tekken original Lee Choalan's alter-ego, Violet.
With new and old characters alike, the story is set. Two years after the events of Tekken 3, Heihachi Mishima and his team of scientists captured samples of blood and tissue from Ogre, the monster his grandson Jin Kazama killed years ago. The scientists and Heihachi wanted to splice Ogre's specimen with Heihachi's genome, hoping to make him immortal. Unfortunately for him, the experiment fails since Heihachi lacks the Devil Gene. Heihachi then concocts a plan to lure out Jin and Kazuya Mishima, the two harborers of the Devil Gene, by announcing the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4. The plot works as Jin and Kazuya are successfully lured and ambushed by Heihachi's Tekken forces. Intersectional fights occur aplenty, as Heihachi fights his son, Kazuya, and his grandson, Jin, and even Jin and Kazuya battle each other. Ultimately, Heihachi fails to bring his plan to fruition despite all the familial infighting. Elsewhere, the rest of the Tekken cast are involved in their own endeavors, either comedic or dramatic. All characters' stories follow a similar format: you select your desired character, a gritty, sketchy art style appears which shows still images with text over as a narrator details what's happening with that exact character, you fight several opponents before facing final boss Heihachi only to receive more sketchy art without narration, and a final CG minute long ending sequence to show what happens with your selected character.
Through this style of storytelling, you get the full story between Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin. With the other characters, you get entertaining sequences such as Steve Fox discovering Nina is his mother or Kuma the bear signing legal documents. Tekken's arcade storytelling was always one of the most engaging aspects of the franchise, and it's no different in this entry. It's actually one of the few ways Tekken 4 surpasses a superior game like Tekken 7, which lacked compelling single-player-focused stories on certain characters.
But while Tekken 4 doesn't lack too much in story, it does somewhat in gameplay. Where Tekken 5 or 7 has fast-paced action during fights, Tekken 4 feels much slower. Movements with each character feel more sluggish and clunky than its successors. As a 3D fighter, it's not a great sign if trying to sidestep, crouching, or even jumping, feeling a tad difficult to pull off.
I also want to note that Tekken 4 had a beat-em-up mode titled Tekken Force. Tekken Force was first a minigame introduced in Tekken 3 before reappearing in this iteration, where you control any character and fight through numerous soldiers in a few given stages before fighting a boss. It's a fun side mode different enough from the other modes in the game that's worth dabbling in a bit.
"Worth dabbling in a bit" is also how I would describe Tekken 4 as a whole. Going through each individual's story campaign was an entertaining romp. Every fighting game should have character endings akin to this. The Tekken Force mode is also fun for a small bit. The gameplay is only lacking in comparison to other games in the franchise, but on its own, it can still make for pleasant casual play amongst friends. It's a shame this 20+-year-old game is locked to the PS2, but if you can somehow get your hands on a version of the game, I recommend playing for at least a little bit to see how Tekken 8 has come such a long way.
3.5/5. It's one of the weaker Tekken entries, but it's still a decent fighting game.

Because of this, TapouT shirts will be available as universal customization items in the console version of the game. On July 26, 2009, Namco Bandai announced that they would be collaborating with mixed martial arts apparel company TapouT. They have added new Console-Exclusive Outfits for specific characters. Similar to the Tekken Force side game in Tekken 3, Tekken 4, Tekken 5's Devil Within, the fighters go through certain areas and defeat all opposing enemies, first was start from Lars and his robot partner Alisa as the first playable characters at this mode. It can be played alone, with others, and online. ( and ).Īlso, there are new " Item Move" features for some of the characters like Lili, Xiaoyu, and other characters.Ī new mode, " Scenario Campaign", will be in the console versions of the game. In the console version, it is playable on the second stage of " Scenario Campaign".Īs of Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in an interview with Katsuhiro Harada, it was revealed that Namco / Namco-Bandai is "considering" including console-specific characters for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. However, it appears to take less damage from attacks now. The game's bonus boss, Nancy-MI847J, does not appear to have received a design change. Also, Azazel's color changes to red/orange when it gets low on health, as seen in the official trailer ( at 3:09 - 3:12). To reach it, you must play arcade mode without retrying to properly reach it. However, the ones that have ranks above red remain the same ( ).Īdditionally, there exists a golden version of the game's final boss, Azazel. Furthermore, Namco has attempted to balance out the characters, as several characters (most notably Bob) were considered much too overpowered in Tekken 6 ( ).įrom Tekken 6 to Bloodline Rebellion, the Tekken-Net ID cards that have ranks below red (from the "Conqueror" rank and below) get reset back to "1st DAN". Many new things, other than the two new characters, are also being introduced with Bloodline Rebellion, such as several new stages (currently six), customization items (including what is referred to as Character Dressup, allowing new "Item Move" features), and an all-new feature that allows the player to customize the hair of the characters, such as hairstyles and hair colors in other words you can literally make your own hairstyle for each character. Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion features two new characters, Alisa Bosconovitch, who is the creation of Doctor Geppetto Boskonovitch ( ), and Lars Alexandersson, who is described as a "strange foreigner" ( ). The tagline, as shown in the most recent trailers, is "What do you fight for".

Full gameplay longplay, playthrough, walkthrough, guide & trueplay as Jinpachi Mishima the final boss in arcade mode. Jinpachi can only be unlocked in this PlayStation 3 HD version of Tekken 5.  Dark Resurrection was an upgraded version of the original arcade game adding in Emilie "Lili" de Rochefort, Sergei Dragunov and also saw the return of Armor King. It's a solid enough instalment in the series, but the juggling system has become game breaking with so many characters having combos that can destroy your health bar once launched in the air. At the same time you are also always vulnerable on the ground as well. Making it all too easy to knock an opponent into the air and then follow up with a combo that makes sure they never get back up.
Jinpachi is totally over powered, but you would expect nothing less from the final boss of the game. This PlayStation 3 version is by far the best version of Tekken 5 for combat matches and also allows for online play. Added to this it also includes a few extra modes such as an unlockable gallery with movies and pictures, along with a ghost battle and survival mode. On the downside the Story mode from the PSP and PS2 is missing along with the PS2 classic Tekken arcade unlocks. Making this feel more like a raw arcade version than a home port only the three new characters have their endings videos and they are unlocks in the gallery.
Released as a discounted budget digital version on PS3 it's certainly worth a pick up if you want the smoothest and best looking Tekken 5 experience there is available.

100 game kumite: mission complete
I streamed 100 different fighting games, finishing up last night. Please see the "hundred game kumite" tag on my blog for all the vods.
What did I learn?
Fighting games are really fun. Still. It’s a joy to fight other people, it’s a joy to stream and have friends come through.
Most of the people who came through, to be totally honest, were my IRL friends, and that was a great emotional boost. I’ve been lonely since quarantine started and I wish I could see them. There were some local FGC people who supported the endeavor too, either by encouraging me or showing up in the stream. Also a few random Twitch folks came through just due to the game I was streaming at the time.
Remarkably few Tumblr folks. Step it up, Tumblr folks :-O
My lovely wife was really supportive of the project <3 <3 She tried being a co-commentator one evening, but she decided to just make that a one-time thing.
Surprises finding online matches -- some games more active than you’d think, others less so
Some games that I would have thought would have active online scenes, I couldn’t find any matches! The new Samurai Shodown game, for example -- when I tried at least, no matches! Dead Or Alive 6 seemed dead; no good. Fighting EX Layer was empty when I tried it. Several more games too.
Games that I was happily surprised to get online matches: Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Tekken 6, Vampire Savior, Mortal Kombat 2 and UMK3 (all on PS3!) -- and Dead Or Alive 5 LR on PS4, it was still going down! Despite its successor not having any matches going. And the Steam version of Melty.
Also the “online arcade” mode in Super Turbo (in the SF Anniversary Collection) was quite active, and that was a bunch of fun.
Where did I mess up?
I had a few snafus getting some games going, either in general (input issues with Steam games, one time when I forgot my laptop was running Folding@Home), or particularly with my two-monitor stream setup. I could have done a better job making sure the games for the night were configured correctly before starting the stream.
Also, I probably did too many versions of Street Fighter II.
I FORGOT GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES, WHAT THE HECK. Somehow I never wrote it down in the planning spreadsheet?? That would have been way better than, say, yet another version of SFII, or Gang Beasts, which is a fine game, but turns out not to have any single-player content.
What do we want to do in the future as a result of this?
Keep playing fighting games.
This series really renewed my love for KOF, Virtua Fighter, Darkstalkers and Killer Instinct; I want to git gud at a KOF game, VF5:FS, Vampire Savior, and KI 2013. Also I would really love to understand Fighting Vipers more. That game is super charming.
Aaaahhhhh maaaaan. And Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2. Maybe I’ll dig into GG Strive.
There are so many good fighting games in the world.
Thanks for reading <3

Tekken 5 (Dark Resurrection) - Dragunov:
“Last character that I’ll be talking about in this game. Dragunov is another new character that appeared on Tekken Dark Resurrection. He’s a such an evil dude and I love it. I love his design, I love his scary vibe and fighting style. Like Lili, he also became a fan favorite to the point that he’s such a common character to fight online, on Tekken 7. A really awesome character indeed.”

Tekken?
Favourite entry: Tekken 5. Actually, probably Dark Resurrection, since it’s basically the same game but with more characters.
Least favourite entry: Tekken 6. Not awful, but underwhelming.
First one I played: I think it was Tekken Tag Tournament, but I might have played a Tekken 3 arcade machine or something.
Most recent one I’ve played: Tekken 7.
Most nostalgic: Tekken Tag Tournament. It was one of the games I got with my PS2, which was also my first game console.
Hidden gem: Tekken 4, probably. It’s flawed, but it has great music and a nice atmosphere.
Underrated entry: Honestly? Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I heard the console version didn’t sell very well, which sucks because it was arguably the most consumer-friendly fighting game on the market, and had a metric fuckton of content. I heard its online play was pretty good, too.
Overall opinion on the series: Probably my favourite fighting game franchise, though it can change depending on my mood.

I’ve been watching this guy called Maxmillion Dood run through all the games Kazuya Mishima appears in as celebration for his appearance in Smash. Dood literally makes his living playing video games, fighters, specifically, so you’d think he’d be able to play Tekken fine, right? Wrong. Dood is f*cking terrible at these games! I mean, he might be good at them but bad with Kaz? Or he might be good and I'm comparing him to the people i play against? Wither way, it’s hard watching him play, man, especially when I'm a Tekken God. Doubly f*cked up because Kaz is actually my fourth main. Lili, Hwoarang, Steve, and then Kaz. I just don’t know how come no one can be this terrible and still have such a successful fighting game channel. Boggles the mind. Anyway, here’s my rankings for the Tekken franchise!
Tekken Revolution
Tumblr media
Revolution is an interesting title. It’s a online only, gacha driven, Tekken fighting game. Think the Ghost Mode of Tekken 5 but with money involved. It was okay, i guess? I didn’t play this one much and kind of hated the online aspect and the gacha was absurd. Still, for a time there, Revolution was fun to play.
Tekken
Tumblr media
I got my start on Tekken 3 but circled back around to this one and, my god, is it bad by comparison! Everything is so stilted and rigid. It’s basically Namco Virtua Fighter and, i mean, that’s fine but having already played Tekken 3, a strong contender for best fighting game ever, it was like trying to enjoy beta ma after living with Blue Ray.
Tekken 2
Tumblr media
This one falls in to the same category as the first game. Obviously, there area ton of improvements but it still plays like Namco Virtua Fighter. It doesn’t feel like Tekken just yet. Fun to play, of course, but no where near as dope as what came after.
Tekken 7
Tumblr media
Now we are getting int the meat! Tekken 7 feels really good to play. There are a ton of innovations but this is my least favorite of all them modern games. Supers? Guest characters? F*cking Akuma? Tekken was always about technical skill. You needed to know what the f*ck you were doing in order to be good at the game. Not with 7. It feels like you can just mash your way through it. Also, it's really, really, ugly. Like, all of the costumes are disgusting. Still, i love the Mishima-centric story line and Devi Kazumi is f*cking gorgeous so i guess it ain’t all bad.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Tumblr media
Tekken Tag 2 is okay. It gets a lot of credit out of me because i loved the original and this one is basically the same game, with updated rosters, graphics, and gameplay. Pretty sure this thing ran on the Tekken 6 engine but it came out a few years after so it’s arguably the best looking Tekken game on the PS3. Plus, i got to play as Unknown again, which is always a goddamn pleasure.
Tekken 4
Tumblr media
This one holds an interesting place in the fandom. Everyone kind of hates 4. It’s easily the worst of the modern title however, i kind of love it. Tekken 4 came out when i was, like, eighteen, and all of my friends played that sh*t religiously. Tekken 3 was my gateway into the franchise, but 4 solidified my love for it. Five would be the one that would be my baby, but this title holds a special place in my heart, for sure.
Tekken 3
Tumblr media
Tekken 3 was my introduction to the franchise. I was aware of it but i never played one. I was a Mortal Kombat guy up to that point. My older brother came over and brought his Playstation. He them commenced to beat my ass for hours. I was incensed. He laughed at me and left his Playstation behind, basically telling me to “get good.” I f*cking did, bro. I found Hwoarang and the next time my brother came over, i dog-walked his ass. For a long time, Tekken 3 was my favorite until...
Tekken Tag Tournament
Tumblr media
Tag tournament launched with the PS2 and i immediately fell in love with this game. It was basically Tekken 3 on steroids. So much extra content, so many new fighters to learn, and the introduction of my favorite boss in the entire franchise: Unknown. Now, let’s be real, that’s definitely Jun, but i didn’t care. She was half naked, covered in black much, with a f*cking spectral Werewolf as her “tag partner”. Dope game is dope and it holds up to this day! I still occasionally fire it up on the old Playstation 2 when ever I'm in Houston. My PS3 stuff is at the in-laws.
Tekken 5
Tumblr media
Finally, we’ve come to the creme of the crop! Tekken 5 came out when i was an adult. It was the first one of the franchise that i mastered thoroughly. I was a proper adult, with a proper job, and a friend with his own place. We would all get together and pile up in dudes apartment, playing this game for HOURS! We all got stupid good and, after gaining a ridiculous amount of confidence in our skills, took it to the arcade. We would literally stay on the sticks all day and just lose to each other. No one would come close to our skill so when Dark Resurrection dropped with an online component i couldn’t wait to test my mettle. I ranked out on the US boards within the week and the world within the month. DR was the first appearance of my Monegasque Princess, Lili. God, this chick fits my gameplay style perfectly and was a whole ass revelation the first time i picked her up on the sticks. She’s been my main ever since.

ok like. i really want to play tekken and i'm Ready and Willing to spend money on the games but idk where to start. Which game should I play first ?
Well, there are 4 routes you can go, imo.
SUPER INVESTED! If you want to get really invested, completely immerse yourself in the experience, get a good grasp on the story and really explore the evolution of the gameplay, I’d say start from the very beginning and skip all the extra tag games and handheld games (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (PS2 version, not Dark Resurrection/PS3 version), 6, and 7. Tekken 1 & 2 are available on PSN for the PS3 for cheap (I think they’re like $5 a pop). Because of licensing issues with a guest character, Tekken 3 isn’t available on PSN, so you’d have to buy the original PS1 disc via eBay or Amazon (or if you’re lucky, a local video game store that still sells older generation games). You’ll need a PS2 or a backwards compatible OG PS3 for Tekken 4 & 5. Tekken: Dark Resurrection is a PS3 version of Tekken 5 with updated graphics, gameplay, and a couple new characters, but there’s almost zero story aspect and was mainly created for online play, so you may skip this one. Tekken 6 is on PS3/360, and Tekken 7 is on PS4/XBONE. Additionally, I’d recommend trying the Tag games after you’re finished with the canon games. Tekken Tag Tournament 1 has a PS2 release and a PS3 HD re-release bundle and runs on an updated version of Tekken 3′s fighting engine, while Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is on the PS3/WiiU/360 and runs on an updated version of Tekken 6′s fighting engine. Optional: Tekken Advance is basically a Tekken 3 port for the GBA which can easily be emulated. It’s pretty impressive for a handheld fighting game, but you’re not missing much by skipping out on this one. Tekken 3D: Prime Edition is essentially a Nintendo 3DS port of Tekken 6 but with different stages and the same movie bundle as the PS3 version of Tag 1. Then there’s Street Fighter x Tekken, which has its obvious flaws, but is really fun. Quite roughly runs on Street Fighter IV’s engine.
OKAY…THAT’S A LOT BUT STILL KINDA INVESTED! If all that is too much for you, I have some great news! You can start at original PS2 version of Tekken 5! 5 has arcade perfect ports of the first three Tekken games included, so if you just want to zoom through the first three just to get a feel for the series’ origins, you can do that in Tekken 5! Optional: Tekken 4 is a truly unique experience to the series and is quite different from the rest of the series in terms of gameplay, aesthetics, and stages. However, it’s definitely the black sheep of the Tekken family and is flawed, and the story focuses on a more technological aspect rather than the supernatural aspect explored in the earlier games.
…STILL TOO MUCH! Well, fortunately for you, there’s Tekken 6! Tekken 6′s story mode (called “Scenario”) is narrated by the two main characters, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, and they each briefly recap the events from the previous five games from their point of view!
WELL, MAYBE I JUST WANT TO LOOK AT IT FROM A COMPETITIVE ASPECT! If such is the case, I start the series in this order: Tekken 3 - Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection - Tekken 6 - Tekken Tag Tournament 2 - Tekken 7. Tekken 3 introduces the younger generation of characters that ultimate end up replacing many of the cast of the previous 2 games. A lot of these characters shared movelists/fighting styles of their older counterparts while simultaneously adding in their own unique style. Starting at 3 will get you familiar with a lot of the series’ current mainstays so that you’ll be ready to play them in the subsequent games. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is the PS3 version of vanilla 5 with fine-tuned gameplay and graphics and a very high competitive scene. Tekken 5 marks the start of the series shaping up to be the way it currently is, and many of the characters’ incarnations in this game serves as the basis for their playing styles in the subsequent games. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is another highly competitive game in the franchise that had/has an active tourney scene. I’d recommend becoming familiar with Tekken 6 beforehand since it runs on 6′s engine. Plus, the 1v1 of 6 makes it easier to learn than the 2v2/1v2 of Tag 2. And then finally, there’s Tekken 7, the current iteration, obviously.

Single vs. Multi-player
I’ve been playing games since I was about 5-10 years old and one of my biggest debates still is whether single-player is more pertinent than multi-player. This debate can factor down to multiple things, such as what a person might be entertained by and if they really want to play with others or what is AI. Having great experiences with games such as Banjo Kazooie, Zelda, Mario, Castlevania, Megaman, Sonic and many more, I have played and beat some of the best. These early titles without the capability of internet had a capacity in the single player to sometimes last for weeks of gameplay, depending on developer/difficulty. Nowadays this element is completely lacking. Having just reached a 100% in Red Dead Redemption 2 I’ve realized yet again a stark reality of the modern evolution of games. The single player is to be flat out, passed a story perspective, boring. As much as it entices me to return to a game, without much reasoning, it quickly becomes only recreation when there is no element of challenge. If you contrast this element to early single player games, you realize everything they were doing then to milk playtime with little content is the challenge that established some of the quips that drive the still existing franchises today.
Then you have games like Dark Souls. Games that are relentlessly brutal and use the power of AI, gambling and self-greed against the player. Many have accused Dark Souls of being Masochistic. Having survived and beaten all three core games, I have to say the game does test even a seasoned player’s patience. The enemies are ahead of your moves and some such as the mushroom men can single handedly fuck your game up for a good hour or so in as little as a moment. A big part of Dark Souls that holds similarity to RDR2 is how much of the game is initially unexplained. Much of this leads to one googling half of the game’s progression and depending on the game’s content this can either be a chore or a pleasure. Much of what I’ve discovered in postgame Rockstar games, Assassin’s Creed and some others is what devolves into a collect-a-thon that sometimes is very time consuming and somewhat stressful in a sense of boredom. The poignancy of these games seems to break down without driven narrative in Lamen’s.
Tumblr media
I find it interesting that games try to emulate hunting/fishing. Some do it well and some expose the improbable nature of a digital hunting environment by either making animals too easy and/or hard to find. Yet again another element that if reduced to old gameplay mechanics could find substantial improvement. Being a big element of RDR2, it unfortunately means that if you can’t stomach the many skinning and gutting animations, you might never progress to the game’s official completion. That being said, a game that lacks varied and diverse enemies as well as ones that aren’t killable sets up post game, what is a hunting simulator. For this reason I desperately hope RDR2 decides to develop single player over multi player, introducing some sort of enemy element that doesn’t just die. Zelda had surprisingly good but simple fishing, Final Fantasy has recently done a decent take on it as well that stands as decent. I would like to see more hunting/fishing in future games but it would be good if it didn’t seem to compromise the majority of the end game as it does in Red Dead.
Tumblr media
Now to bring up the point of Red Dead. Depending on when you discovered Red Dead one recognizes it as either Redemption or Revolver. Having played both, I am still waiting for an acknowledged and sensible crossover of the games, though none has been officially made. I originally 100% redemption in hopes of a crossover reveal and also my own self made theory. Neither happened, but I feel obligated to explain what could of been possible. Back in the day when Banjo Kazooie was first released it had a strange coding for Stop N’ Swop items that was previously unknown to most players. Upon opening this code it was discovered that it was implementation for a certain string of hidden items unlocking stuff from Banjo Kazooie to the follow-up, Banjo Tooie. In vain hopes I had hoped that Rockstar discovered such a thing and would open up the alien ships/UFO’s in GTA 5 from the ships in RDR2(spoiler sorry) allowing the player to port(abduct) Arthur into GTA 5 before he dies, and allowing a crossover reward that would wrap up eggs from both games, after joint 100% completion ( i.e. you have unlocked John Marston).
Tumblr media
This would assuringly be the beginning of wrapping up GTA 5′s online that will be encompassed by GTA 6 and hopefully allow the player to port their online earnings/vehicles/weapons into single player with a final patch. In a weird way the developers owe this to the hardcore fanbase, if they could just stop making a damn joke out of it and do it one night, maybe the jetpack conspiracists can actually find something and many of them would be disappointed by an actual solution, which makes it all the better. I would assume the UFO’s will then serve as a place to switch characters in the single player once 100% is achieved. This is all again, theories and wishful thinking.
Tumblr media
Overall games that challenged me I still remember and play the most. Games such as Crash Bandicoot, Geometry Wars or even Pocket Tanks I still play for various forms of entertainment. My favorite form of games is unfortunately the least currently explored, RTS and Sim hybrids. They are usually the most time consuming games and with current capabilities of next-gen systems I’ve been waiting for a good replacement to Command and Conquer: Renegade or Red Alert 1+2. Unfortunately Westwood has all but dissolved and the best hopes for a decent console RTS still lies in a Starcraft port, that I still have my fingers crossed for. I would personally love seeing a Black and White 1 or 2 port, or new one altogether, but this would yet again require the resurrection of a now dissolved company (Lionhead).
It seems that in modern games the ones I find the most entertaining and memorable are alike to the current Destiny formula (though I love Bungie, I still haven’t jumped on the Destiny bandwagon) which features a hybrid of single and multi-player. This is also alike to Dark Souls which basically hosted it’s multiplayer through single player. This formula seems to be taking nods from MMO developments and in my opinion that is a good direction. Genres are supposed to evolve into new areas as the games develop and eventually reach a level where they can be considered non-linear creations. Some FPS hybrids have started delving into Counter-Strike territory which is a good sign. I have yet to see anything like Command and Conquer: Renegade on the consoles though. Once the player becomes more concerned then just with what they are shooting at, they realize the bigger game within the game. Almost every game could benefit with some form of resource gathering/management, and there isn’t a modern game that doesn’t have some sort of unlock tree, none of these things came from Goldeneye. This isn’t to say shooting isn’t important, but rather a synthesis of elements to make a game have longevity.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (arcade mode win with ARMAH KING, no continues because true god of Tekken, played on Hard Mode, nbd)

Tekken 6: King II:
“Another returning character is here. Honestly, you can expect most characters to return in this game, specially if they were on Tekken 5/Dark Resurrection. King is an awesome character. He’s a wrestler, so expect some crazy grabs...specially grabs that nearly kills you. He’s strong and kind of fast. People online love to use his long string grabs, but you can use King’s awesome moveset, without having to throw anyone. He’s a complex and really good character, overall.“
PS: the footage of this gifset isn’t mine. You can find the original video in HERE.
