The Dugray family have made their fortune as far back as the American revolution, starting with immigrating to America and manufacturing gunpowder for the American soldiers
This eventually led to the Dugray family owning one of the largest and most established chemical manufacturing corporations in America, DuGray
They invented a number of household names like pyrex, teflon, styrofoam, and even superglue, and also make ppe for people who work with or around chemicals
A while back, they also acquired two bank chains on the east coast, one of which is for east coast businesses, and the other is expanding slowly across america. 
The Dugray family’s net worth is roughly 18.6 billion. I know. 
Also, the Huntzberger family’s net worth is roughly 21.7 billion. I know.
Tristin mentions at one point that he has a “matching set” of baggage with Paris, and we know Paris’s parents are not at all close to her, or each other
We also know that her father is the head of a pharmaceutical company, and when her parents divorced it was in the newspaper
So yikes!
Anyway the only family mentioned by name is Janlon Dugrey, his paternal grandfather (I’m assuming if Janlon was his mom’s dad he would have a different last name yk)
So OBVIOUSLY I had to flesh things out a little 
Looking at this family tree I made a while ago, Tristin has two older siblings: his oldest brother Royce, and his older sister and middle sibling Sutton
They’re both a bit older than Tristin, since his mom is their dad’s second wife
Truett DuGrey married Helena Holshire and had Royce, then Sutton
They divorced when Royce was around 7 and Sutton was almost 5 because Helena suspected Truett of cheating, and Truett suspected Helena of being a gold digger
Both were true
A couple years later, Truett is introduced to Blythe Ross while working on publicity for the banks his family as acquired 
Blythe and Truett didn’t necessarily get along, but she could handle him better than most other women he’s met 
They were actually introduced through Mitchum Huntzberger and his wife Shira, because Shira and Blythe are sisters
Surprise!
So Blythe gets pregnant and Truett can feel another Helena gold digger situation coming
That’s when Blythe tells him she can’t go to his work event because she has to go to a clinic
Truett stops in his tracks and realizes three things at the same time
Blythe is not in fact using a pregnancy to try and get access to his money
He loves his son Royce as much as he’s able to, but he’s already becoming apathetic and Truett can’t pass over the family business to someone with no drive or ambition
Royce is 10 by the way
Lastly, he realizes that this might actually be beneficial to him
So he convinces Blythe not to get an abortion and to elope instead
Once she gets her body back after the baby they’ll stage some wedding photos and claim it was from a little over a year ago so no one knows he had the baby out of wedlock
When she’s 18 weeks along, he schedules a private ultrasound to find out the baby’s gender
He tells her that if it’s a boy, everything will be fine
If it’s a girl, he’ll serve her annulment papers and nice fat alimony and child support checks to keep both of them out of his life
Blythe isn’t sure if she’s relieved or not when the doctors announce they’re going to be having a healthy baby boy, but Truett sure is
So he grows up watching his burnt out older brother and back bone of the family older sister navigate middle school and high school when he’s barely starting kindergarten
They don’t have any harsh feelings toward Tristin
Not really
They were just never that close yk
It’s like the pilot of umbrella academy, “we only see each other at weddings and funerals”
Except really, they only see each other when Truett forces them into whatever is going on with the family business, or to bail each other out of trouble
Royce is just waiting for his trust fund to kick in so he can fuck off and smoke weed in peace
Sutton is desperately trying to keep her image and life together while hiding her nicotine dependency and steadily growing pill problem from the public eye
And Tristin just wants to fucking feel something
His mom has been in and out of “med spas” and “wellness retreats” for so long he wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t recognize him, and the only time he and his dad talk is when he’s making charges go away
Sutton is engaged to this guy Clint
And he’s fine or whatever, Tristin hasn’t really talked to him much before
But he’s keeping his ear to the ground to make sure he treats his sister right
Sure Sutton can be condescending and a total control freak and act more like a mom than his actual mom
But she’s still his sister
So Sutton’s been off planning this huge wedding and trying to start some lifestyle brand for luxury dog beds and organic phone cases or something
Royce barely managed to keep his latest DUI for driving stoned under wraps but Truett still found out and sent him off to rehab
So Tristin starts high school at Chilton feeling almost lonelier than ever
Tristin aches for consistency, for stability
Thanks to Duncan and Bowman he sort of has that
And people like Paris that he’s literally been in school with since he can remember
It’s not that they’re particularly close, but he just likes that she’s always around when he’s going to and from class
There’s a few other people like that too, loose acquaintances that haven’t dropped out or transferred
They make him feel like even if everything else has gone to shit, he still has his winning personality
And he still has Chilton

I woke up feeling anxious, readied myself feeling nervous, fussed with my hair a little too long for my own liking, and by the time I sat in that chair, a long forgotten, but all too familiar feeling of anticipatory dread engulfed me. Suddenly, I had become that once vulnerable, insecure young girl again, sitting in a classroom waiting for the results of that all or nothing exam. Except now, I am a middle aged woman, and the stakes are much higher. Was I prepared? Was I ready? Did I do enough? So much was riding on this visit, and the promise I made to myself exactly one year ago. My Bernie offered to come with me, but I declined the offer. After all, it was me against me, and always has been.
There I was, having just turned 53 a few days prior, sitting in a doctor's office. The nurse had just taken my blood pressure. "It's 160 over 91, she frowned. Do you always run this high?" No, I said, as she hurriedly typed. Not usually. After she left, I instinctively reached for my cell phone only to stare at my face. Was my high blood pressure visible? Should I retouch my roots? Did I wear the right foundation? Minutes in that poorly lit room felt like an eternity, but I was determined to record the day to keep myself accountable. So I snapped the photo anyway.
No sooner did I place my phone back in my purse, than my doctor enter the room, a forty-something, soft spoken, Jordanian born endocrinologist with an affinity for vegetable gardening.
After exchanging the typical and expected greetings, he asked how I was feeling and proceeded to sit in front of his charts. I answered truthfully, told him that I was at my one year anniversary into my healing journey and was anxious about my recent test results. He smiled, enough so that I could feel myself exhaling, while his voice seemed to fade further and further away.
The Holy Spirit blessed me that day. Now, I am so grateful I could cry.
A year ago, I had officially succumbed to morbid obesity, weighing in at a whopping 207lbs. I lived with chronic fatigue, hair loss, insomnia, brain fog, and worse, I didn't recognize myself anymore. Was this middle age? Was this my new normal? I had hit rock bottom. Years of walking, years of hiking, years of gardening, and lifting, and digging, and pruning, and mulching, and tilling, and for what? Menopause. My endocrine system was off balance, my lymphatic system, metabolism had slowed to a crawl. I already had one suspicious nodule removed from my left breast, and two suspicious nodules removed from my thyroid. My body had officially become acidic, potentially opening the flood gates to disaster. It was clear I needed to make a drastic change, and I needed to become passionate about it, even obsessed if it were to work.
First things first, I stopped eating out. I needed to gain control of ingredients and therefore overall nutrition. At first this felt like punishment. I stopped hosting, entertaining. No liquor, no temptation, no excess food, no nonsense. Swapped Teflon for copper and cast iron as I was anemic, low in vitamin b-12, low in vitamin D, magnesium, just to name a few. I doubled down on eating simple meals, by focusing on nutritious, whole food. Naturally, I expanded my garden, growing more, doing more, learning more. Like I said, obsessed, for the first time in a long time. In fact, the last time I was this disciplined or "obsessed" about something was back when I was living in Israel and practicing Hebrew for 5 hours a day.
Finally, and most importantly, I gave up all sugar. Yes, all sugar. This was the hardest part, and it took about 3 months for my mood to stabilize and more critically, for it to become a habit. Yes, not even in my coffee. Today I take in my sugar from fruit and only fruit. Nothing artificial, nothing processed, nothing fake, nothing that makes me feel like a fake.
The results? inflammation is way down, energy is way up! I can happily say I wake up at 5 am without the need for an alarm and I now weigh 148 lbs. As for the numbers? Let me explain my doctor's smile. Cholesterol went from 240 to 185, now within normal range, A1C pre-diabetic readings went from 6.7 to 5.6. I am now out of danger and within normal range. Finally, two remaining nodules in my thyroid have shrunk in size. I see the light at the end of the tunnel and am more determined than ever before. And, I'll never go back. This feels like a rebirth.
So, you see, dear friends, I am not ignoring you, and I am beyond grateful for the birthday messages, caring and loving words. But, I had to focus and do my work, ethically, holistically, intentionally, consistently. Naturally and without shortcuts.
I simply needed to get to a point in my life where I loved myself, more than I loved my addiction to excess, in any and all forms it showed up.
Happy Birthday to me. This is relieved, hopeful and grateful 53...

i'm probably naïve and don't have an expanded imagination but i really don't want to see claudia in a relationship with a woman in her 30s.
i'm fine with claudia being a tragic character that never finds happiness as she would like it than to deal with a 30-year-old white woman actively romancing a black girl in a 14-year-old body
they can show claudia pining and being miserable like they did with the which one of you is gonna fuck me in sn 1 but maintain the adults being like, nope
they've shown they can deal with the incestuous themes of anne's work without incest so i'm hopeful
well u dont have to down urself lol its nothing wrong w/ having a clear boundary when it comes to what u can tolerate seeing in a fictional narrative lol. im teflon don in rl so irdc bout fiction i will say i personally found rice’s racism which extended to her real life to be most irredemable than anything else & relatively understated in criticisms of her compared to ppls criticism of psychosexual / incestuous themes. i found she was at the very least aware of how they operate n willing to tackle the insanity caused as a result of these power imbalances [?] n what the result of such dynamics being the foundation for characters subsequent interactions n relationships better, now contrast to her upholding racialist beliefs & dynamics in her work n supporting racist actions of paula deen n such rl n also setting the groundwork for the glorification of the antebellum south in ~gothic horror~. like cmon anne the metaphor [& the historical reality] of the european investor in slavery creating the american slaveowner who feast on& r parasites to the slave in labor n flesh was right there n neither rice nor “transformative” fanon afaik was ever interested in exploring that, rather they both treated that like the good ole nuclear family days . butt im sorry for going off topic my friend im pretty sure these writers have a plan in mind for how theyll show claudia’s&madeline’s dynamic and all my mindless speculation will be pointless lol.

What Can We Do About The Oligarchs?
Oligarchies have been around for a very long time in modern terms. The word itself comes from the ancient Greeks, like many of our words for social structures and types of government. What can we do about the oligarchs? Oligarchy versus democracy was first billed as a clash of governing systems some 3 millennia ago in Athens. The original Greek oligarchies were based on class and wealth, as the two most often went hand in hand. Democracy came about as a means to break the grip of noble families on governing Athens, the city state. This new expansionary form of government spread to other Greek city states.
Power: Oligarchy vs Democracy
Power has always been held in a tight fisted exclusionary manner. Democracy in ancient Greece only expanded the vote to adult male free citizens of the particular city state. Prior to this, it was limited to a council of adult male representatives of noble families. Women were kept in the home for breeding purposes and had no political standing whatsoever. That is not to say that they were not respected in the home. There were plenty of slaves around as well, who had no say in anything. This then, is the basis for what would develop into our modern conception of democracy. Excluded groups and demographics would have to fight to be included in the defining body of those eligible to vote. Adult males without property would be included by the 20C. Women would eventually get the vote after bitter struggles by campaigning activists later in the 20C. People considered to have the wrong coloured skin would likewise eventually get the vote much later as well. It took a couple of thousand years for these inclusions to come about, which tells us about the tight fisted nature of power in the world of Homo sapiens. How Oligarchs Hold Onto Power
What can we do about the oligarchs? Elon Musk is a good example of an oligarch who has invested a lot in the projection of his image. This ruthless businessman repeatedly took the credit for every business he invested in to the detriment of those who actually ran these companies. Tesler and the solar businesses were not his conceptions but he made sure he got the credit for their success. Donald Trump, the Teflon don, has never been shy of claiming credit for stuff other folk have done too. Americans are big on hot air and spin. They revel in the hype and talk up stuff until the cows come home. Never get in the way of an American and his next sentence. AI is the latest overhyped global sales pitch being spun upon us all. How do oligarchs hold onto power? “The most interesting discussion is how ancient oligarchs used information to preserve their regime. They combined secrecy in governance with selective messaging to targeted audiences, not unlike our modern spinmasters and communications consultants. They projected power through rituals and processions. At the same time, they sought to destroy monuments that were symbols of democratic success. Instead of public works projects, dedicated in the name of the people, they relied on what we can think of as philanthropy to sustain their power. Oligarchs would fund the creation of a new building or the beautification of a public space. The result: the people would appreciate elite spending on those projects and the upper class would get their names memorialized for all time. Talk about the public monuments of modern day oligarchs. These philanthropic billionaires doing us all such lavish favours hey? Stupid men ogling the success of the Big Tech bros – “I wan be just like them!’ If I ever grow up. How Do We Combat Oligarchy? What can we do about the oligarchs? The ancient Greeks used to exile those who were found guilty of crimes against the state. That or execution. Could we bundle up Bezos and Musk and blast them into outer space? Not a bad idea really. Although, you could imagine them coming back with armies of aliens of whom they sold stock options to on the basis of their support to overthrow the democratic government that exiled them in the first place. Roman Oligarchy The ancient Romans, during the time of their Republic, culturally despised great wealth as excessive. A good Roman was idealised as lean and tough. Having more food than you need to eat, because what was wealth for apart from this? Was seen as slightly obscene, somewhat like fat people are thought of today. The Romans were an agrarian race and saw things as farmers saw them. Yes, you put away enough food to see you through the winter but accruing vast amounts of wealth was not what truly great Romans did. You fought for the glory of Rome on the battlefield when young and then took your place in the Senate when of an age to do so. Ancestors were idealised and there was familial and social pressure to live up to their example. Elitism was a strong force and careerism  a manifestation of that in government. Ancient Rome was an elected oligarchy during the Republican Period. It would become an imperial empire following Augustus’ rise to power. Rome would change culturally during the empire and the acquisition of great wealth would become a much more desirable thing for the elites of Roman society. Oligarchy & Family Wealthy people today do everything in their power to ensure that their children and families go on to enjoy more wealth and power. They send them to exclusive schools and colleges, where they hobnob with others of their social class. Networking occurs in these settings, which creates circles of influence for these future titans of business and whatever. The best jobs, often, end up being reserved for those in these circles of power. These social dynamics have been going on for centuries and millennia, of course. They make conceptions like meritocracy a bad joke in practice. This is one of the reasons why Americans have had this fierce fear of socialism ingrained into them by the rich and powerful who rule their lives. They do not want some state based power preventing them from creating exclusive elite enclaves for their kids. They want to be free to behave like aristocrats, whilst telling everybody we are all the same. To live in gated communities keeping the riff raff out. To run businesses which prey on the powerless by paying minimum hourly wages of $7.25. Meanwhile, they bring in revenue in the tens of billions of dollars annually. CEOs are earning hundreds of millions of dollars a year, especially of the Big Tech corporations. However, any suggestion of raising the federal minimum wage is seen as some socialist form of evil. The disparity between rich and poor is obscene in America. These are not good people in any sense of the world – the American oligarchy is morally corrupt on an epic scale. These Big Tech multinationals like Google and Apple shirk their taxation responsibilities on top of everything else. Minimising tax by shifting profits to tax free and low tax territories and applying in-house IP costs to drastically reduce profits from showing up in the first place. Big Tech has not only taken all the business revenue from markets but avoids paying a fair share of tax on that revenue to the governments where they do business. The power of governments has shrunk whilst corporations have become mega-entities with legions of lawyers and accountants. This is the world we live in and which oligarchic businesses reign supreme.
