Love Interests For Batgirl
I want to go through the best options for her instead of sticking her with Nightwing all the time.
First I'll start with my okay & itcks
I know people like Nightwing & Batgirl together. Sometimes they can be cute and good for each other. I really just like them as friends hell, they same to work pretty damn well as friends.
Tumblr media
I'm also tired of them having her date/romantic with every guy in the batfamily
Batman & Batgirl
Just eww no, it was weird in the Animated Series/Movie (Killing Joke movie) and that one Lego Movie still weird till this day. BruceTimverse had her mess with him & Nightwing his adopted son.
Tumblr media
Robin/Red Robin ( Tim Drake) & Batgirl
Honestly why? I know its not canon but, like out of all people why Tim?
Tumblr media
Batwing (Luke Fox) & Batgirl
I mean they tried with this couple but honestly it was so damn boring. Truth be told Luke Fox (Batwing) he's lame to me.
Tumblr media
Red Hood (Jason Todd) & Batgirl
They always try to push them together & it just feels weird doesn't really work at all. Even the non canon Joker(3 jokers) it doesn't feel right.
Tumblr media
Like damn... who's next Duke, Alfred or Azrael?
Now on to my favorite exploring other love intrests
Ted Kord (Blue Bettle II) My top pick
Tumblr media
To me they just clicked with each other so well.
he really brought out the best qualities in her in a way that her other romances didn't.
He genuinely didn't care about the wheelchair. In fact, I noticed rereading some old Birds of Prey stories that he's pushing her wheelchair around at many moments. That shows something. Babs doesn't let anyone push her wheelchair. Not even Canary or Grayson. Slowly pushed past her emotional defenses.
He made her laugh. He was loyal to a fault. Drew her out of her brooding and depression without pushing. Supported her without trying to take over. Encouraged her to go after her interests and shared alot of the same interests.
During that time in BOP, Grayson treated her like something broken that he needed to fix. Ted treated her like she was an amazing person that he wanted to be with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason Bard
I mean they got engaged to each other they were together for a long time ago. I can't remeber much about his couple but how deeply they care for each other showed.
Tumblr media
Nick Gage
They used to date it was alright.
Tumblr media
Sam Young
they got married in one contiunity so I wonder about they're relationship is like seems nice and healthy. I do remeber he is they mayor & she is the commisoner(In the Batman Beyond)
Tumblr media
Steve Harris
In Future's End, do know how it started but when reading a bit they are so both smitten lol its beautiful.
Tumblr media
I'd say Ted Kord is my pick for her I wish they gave Babs & Ted another try. If not Jason Bard or another hero that be cool just not Batwing that relationship had me on a snooze fest.

For your Tim mentor au, what’s the craziest piece of Tim lore the kids have each collected? I can see them having once a month meetings where they compete to see who got the most mind boggling info about Tim. Idk what the number gets.
they don't collect any sort of tim lore.
see, they don't think tim is cool. no baby hero thinks their mentor is one of the cool ones! tim doesn't hero-worship batman. none of young justice thought red tornado was super neat. bart's not out here like "wow the flash!!!" he's like "wally your wife is way cooler than you lol." i guess kon and cassie are kind of exceptions in that they DO think superman and wonder woman are really cool, but not in the way that baby tim thought superman was cool, let alone the way baby tim thought ted kord was cool.
every time they hear a story of tim being impressively competent or anything they're like. whoa. like it makes sense (he can take down all four of us in hand to hand sparring at once) but also it makes NO sense (he says "get pwned lol" every time he takes down all four of us in the sparring ring.) they are not hero-worshipping tim. tim is their teacher who is prone to dry humor and falling asleep in weird places and tinkering with weird gadgets. it's just also that somehow he knows?? everyone???? he's friends with EVERYONE???
so if anything, they're gossipping about tim having a history with supernova. about tim knowing xenia!!!! impulse (or mercury?) invites himself in at one point like oh you guys are talking about tim? i have stories! and they're all like HOLY SHIT... IT'S IMPULSE. tim's like guys i promise you NONE of these guys are any cooler than me. i've seen cassie trip over her own lasso and shock herself because her wife unbuttoned a single button on her shirt on a hot day. guys. come on. STOP agreeing when supernova says ttk is the best power ever. he does NOT need a bigger head about it!!!
but this gaggle of teenagers will not be deterred. they do not think tim is cool. tim understands red tornado better than ever.

Edit Requests: Booster Gold and Blue Beetle in Countdown to Infinite Crisis for @waveridden
"I knew where I needed to be. So here I am."
(ID under the cut)
Five banners with art pulled from Countdown to Infinite Crisis, featuring Ted Kord and Michael Carter. Four of the panels are animated.
1: Michael Carter, in his Booster Gold costume, hovers in midair. Ted Kord stares at him in surprise. A lens flare effect moves across the image, centered on a light in Booster's hands. He's surrounded by a diamond of neon lines.
2: Booster in a hospital gown with a bandage around his head. He puts a hand on Ted's shoulder. Ted is wearing the full Blue Beetle costume. Ted's narration rests between them: "Everything I care about burns."
3: Booster cracks his knuckles in front of a computer screen with a grin. Over his shoulder, Ted watches him and smiles to himself. The background is a repeating countdown from 5 to 1, each number lighting up one after the other and then fading away.
4: Ted, in his Blue Beetle costume, holds an unconscious Booster in his arms. The background is grayscale but depicts blood spatter. Three text boxes with Ted's narration appear: "Whatever happens, you tell him it's not his fault." / "You tell him it's not his fault. That I said so." / "And you tell him I never had a better friend than him."
5: Ted pulls an unconscious Booster from a burning building. The image is red, yellow and orange, except for Ted and Booster in a dark blue palette. The words "We both should be" hover in the center in a white all-caps font. Slowly, four letters appear, revealing more yellow and red fire: "Dead."
/End ID.

Didn't get a reply back on this but I'm going to post a few (DC) recs anyway? These are mostly places I think are good to start. (Disclaimer that these are influenced by personal taste).
Easy mode: Short contained run, probably less than 30 issues (can be more), very unlikely to have any crossovers, does not require much (if any) further knowledge of characters.
Medium mode: Approx 40-75 issues, will have some crossovers but you won't need to read them if you don't want to, may require a little wiki-ing about some characters/events but only if you're curious.
Hard(er) mode: We're reaching 100+ issue territory, many crossovers (some which can be ignored, some which may be confusing if ignored but you can wiki those if you don't want to read them). Believe me it is fairly easy to ignore a missing crossover/event issue and barrel on back to the main story in most cases.
Green Lanterns
Easy: Far Sector, Green Lantern: Legacy - both self-contained, introduce new characters.
Medium: Green Lantern Corps vol 2(2006-2011) - a few crossovers events here, (don't feel you have to read every blackest night crossover lmao just read what you want even if that is just this comic alone), Green Lanterns (2016-2018) (Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz).
Hard(er): Green Lantern vol 3 (1990-2006) (Kyle Rayner's run) #48 onwards, long run, not all of it is amazing quality but it is more good than not. Significant number of crossovers because this spans 12 years.
Superman
Easy: The Man of Steel (1986) six issue mini reintroducing Superman post-crisis, Superman Red & Blue (2021), Superman Smashes the klan (2019-2020), Batman/Superman: World's Finest (2022-ongoing)
Hard(er): Superman (1987-2006) + The Adventures of Superman (1987-2006) + Action Comics (1938-2011 starting at #597) These 3 titles run concurrently and the story sometimes moves from one to the next meaning you will miss something if you're not reading all three. (I am currently reading these and am only in the first quarter so cannot say anything about quality of later issues).
More under read more
Blue Beetle
Easy: Blue Beetle vol 2 (1986-1988)(Ted Kord), Blue Beetle vol 3 (2006-2011)(Jaime Reyes)
Hard(er): Justice League International/America (it renames at issue #26) (1987-1998) Team book (obviously) and a long run where quality is not always consistent but is fun overall and essential for Ted's character.
Booster Gold
Easy: Booster Gold vol 1 (1986)
Hard-(er): Justice League International/America (see above)
Misc.
Easy: Young Justice (1998-2003) (if you like Tim, Kon, Bart, Cassie etc an essential read)
Medium: Wonder Woman vol 5 (2016-2023) #1-#54 a good re-introduction of Diana post n52 (side note that I've heard Wonder Woman vol 2 (1987-2006) is good but I have not read it yet).

I cringe every time I see Justice League International/America put as essential reading for Ted Kord/Blue Beetle 2. Like no, just cause it was long-running and popular and referenced by a bunch of things, since Ted was OOC the entire time in JLI that's not essential reading for him.
This is what I've read so far that gives a good feel for Ted Kord/Blue Beetle and what he's about where he's reasonably in character:
Captain Atom (1966-1967) #83-86- Ted's first comics. Look out for period typical sexism
Blue Beetle (1967-1968) #1-5- Ted's first solo comics. Look out for period typical sexism and racism. Ted's ok with killing bad guys/won't lose sleep about it if it happens. My girl, the MVP Tracey is here as Ted's gf, lab assistant, and confidant. Issue 5 has Vic Sage/The Question showing up in his civilian persona and helping out Blue Beetle.
Charlton Portfolio (1974) #1- Ted's civilian persona gets blamed for murder and the theft of an invisibility suit. Has the first mini-Bug/Snoopy for spying on shit. Tracey defends her man's honor and chews people out for bad-mouthing Ted.
Charlton Bullseye (1981) #1- Blue Beetle 2 and The Question team up officially as superheroes taking on a villain with many mooks and death traps. Also, this story implies that Ted has been Blue Beetle for at least 10 yrs. The Question calls Blue Beetle his friend and thinks they make a good team.
Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985) #1-3 [you can read more if you want but he's less prominent the further the Crisis goes on]- Ted's DC universe debut as part of the Earth 4 crew. This Ted has the Scarab and it can work as demon repellant and keep him from getting disintegrated from being touched by antimatter demons. Ted is cosmically important enough to be Earth 4's representative!
Secret Origins (1986) #2- Dan and Ted's origins are retold to fit in the DC universe. Ted does not have the Scarab. Red-head curly-haired Ted!
Blue Beetle (1986) #1-24- Ted's DC solo run. Red-head curly-haired Ted! Ted has no confidence for his secret identity which causes drama. His girlfriend/lab assistant is Melody Chase. In issues 5-7, Vic Sage/The Question teams up with Blue Beetle 2 for an arc. This run has crossovers with Legends (1986) and Mellinium (1988). Ted also starts appearing in Justice League International (1987)[boo, hiss, thankfully JLI didn't affect the plots of Ted's solo unlike the crossovers]
Showcase (1994) #2-4- Set in JLI era but Ted is pretty much himself. Ted fights cops and a city's local government b/c they stole his patents and they're fascists and he doesn't vibe with that.
L.A.W.: Living Assult Weapons (1999) #1-6- This series is racist trash propaganda. You mostly just want the first two and last two issues for Ted stuff. Ted decides to retire from being a superhero at the end of this series.
Birds of Prey (1999) #2, 4, 7, 10, 15, 19, 22-25, 33-37, 39-42- Ted makes a number of cameos initially via chatting online with Oracle as her friend. Then meeting up for an in-person date. Then coming out of retirement and joined the Birds of Prey on missions as support and a driver primarily. Then Ted gets diagnosed with a degenerative heart condition and retires again.
Robin (1993) #96- Ted teaming up with Tim Drake/Robin to track down a Jokerized werecat. Ted charms and scores a date with one of Dick Grason/Nightwing's civilian love interests.
Convergence: Blue Beetle (2015) #1-2- A return of pre-DC Ted! Set on Earth 4's Hub City kidnapped by some cosmic entity pitting heroes against each other with the survival of their cities on the line. Blue Beetle, The Question, and Captain Atom vs the Legion of Super-Heroes. My girl Tracey is here! As Ted's copilot!

This is a bit arbitrary, but is Oracle’s existence public knowledge pre-Flashpoint? As in, does the average citizen know of Oracle? I’m reading up on Barbara because I’ve only read her pre-Crisis Batgirl stuff so far, but I’m kind of… iffy about the BOP book because of the writers.
No, Oracle's existence wasn't public knowledge. Babs' identity was completely secret until halfway through Ostrander and Yale's Suicide Squad run and even after that most of the heroing community didn't know who she was, much less the general public. Birds of Prey as a book largely functions on the reality that the team is, essentially, a covert ops team led by a figure whose existence isn't public knowledge and whose identity is somewhat unknown even to the larger heroing community. As we move through the post-Crisis timeline, Oracle's existence largely stays secret from the public but most of the heroing community knows that she exists and works with her. She even had a stint where she worked closely with the JLA during the Watchtower era.
In terms of her secret identity: the Bats know that Babs is Oracle, and the Birds know that she's Oracle, and various individual heroes (like Ted Kord and certain members of the Justice League that she regularly works with) know that she's Oracle, but there's still several people who have no idea that Barbara Gordon and Oracle are the same person (much less that she used to be Batgirl).
By the time we get to Blackest Night/Brightest Day in 2010, Babs decided that too many people knew about her existence as Oracle and way too many people out of that group knew that Oracle was Barbara Gordon. So she faked Oracle's death to the larger superheroing community in a very mid and weird BOP plotline called 'The Death of Oracle', leaving only a select number of people (most of the Bats and the BOP) aware that she was still alive. This canonically had major consequences for several heroes who were relying on her intel and were in the middle of dangerous assignments when she went dark, but also wasn't properly explored as much as it could have been since a) The Black Mirror, which Babs co-starred in, was also happening at the time and b) the reboot happened shortly afterwards.
In terms of Birds of Prey the book, Vol. 1 (1999-2009) is pretty solid the entire way through:
Funnily enough I consider Dixon's Birds of Prey run to be one of his Top 3 comics. There's a reason an all-female team title written in the early 2000s survived long enough to be handed over to another writer and it's because Dixon made it work. Babs (and her relationships with other characters) is his one exception when writing women and I still don't know why 20 years later. There are definitely still significant amounts of Dixon Flaws™ that shine through in that run, but he's one of Babs' best writers and is still probably the best Dick/Babs writer we've ever had–largely because he's one of the few writers who actually gives a fuck about Babs as a character separate from her relationship with Dick. Which is weird because it's Dixon, but it's still true.
Gail Simone's run is well-written with good plotlines and has better treatment of the characters overall. It's also extremely racist at times (specifically anti-Asian) and occasionally veers into weirdly immature "high school mean girl bickering" interations. She writes an excellent Babs, but I think she was also dealing with a lot of external and internalized misogyny as one of the only major female writers at DC and as someone who got to where she was because she played somewhat nice with the "good old boys' club." Her work on BOP is not without significant flaws, but it's also a really fun read and I recommend it.
I wouldn't really bother reading BOP Vol. 2 (2010-2011) unless you're a completionist and every post-Flashpoint iteration of the team has been either "decent concept, bad execution" (the New 52 book) or "this is just bad, pull it now" (every version of the book since). If you remove Oracle from the equation and pretend like post-Flashpoint's watered-down Batgirl!Babs is a suitable replacement, you've already lost a fundamental aspect of what made the book work in the first place.

Official cast interviews for Blue Beetle (2023) from DC Nation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Found these interviews in the back of Ravager: Knight Terrors and Robin: Knight Terrors. They seem to be inserted in Aug publications at random? If anyone finds Bruna Marquezine's interview please drop them and @ me
Update: The above interviews are now transcribed below:
Interview with Xolo Maridueña:
What can you share about the origin story of Jaime Reyes—and his alter ego, Blue Beetle?
Jaime is someone who's coming back to his hometown from college. One day he comes across this scarab that grants him powers beyond belief. At first, he's reluctant to become a hero, but ultimately he'll decide to accept his fate—whether he feels worthy or not!
Like most comic book films, there are tons of origin stories to pull from. I think our movie amalgamates some of Jaime's best stories in comics over the years.
How does this scarab give Jaime his powers?
The scarab, Khaji Da, is a sentient alien life-form on a mission across the universe to detect technological advancements. The scarab just so happens to attach itself to Jaime and he's granted incredible powers.
The powers are more a question of what can't he do? He can fly, punch things super hard, make his hands turn into different weapons. He's kind of just the best superhero out there...if I do say so myself.
Who is the villain of the movie, Victoria Kord?
Victoria Kord is played by Susan Sarandon in the film. Victoria is truly a billionaire mogul with her eyes on the prize. However, she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder because there was a disagreement on who should head up Kord Industries. Susan Sarandon is such an amazing actress and as much as Victoria Kord has a bad side, she's also very charming.
What makes this superhero film unique?
This film really is gonna tap into that familiar family feeling that is irreplaceable. You're gonna meet Jaime's family and say, maybe I don't look like them, maybe our parents don't come from the same place, but I know this type of love and what this relationship feels like. I hope it will make a lot of people realize you don't have to do everything alone.
All the moments that led up to Jaime encountering the scarab were because of the foundation that his family was able to build on.
Interview with George Lopez:
What can you tell us about Rudy, your character in the film?
On my last trip to Atlanta, I was in a car and I looked out the window and there was a guy working for the city with about a 10-inch goatee, glasses, long hair, and a city orange vest that had no sleeves, and I thought, man, that's me. I like the idea that we're so quick to judge somebody by the way they look, and Rudy is a bit of a contradiction from the way that he looks.
Why do you think the scarab chose Jaime Reyes as its host?
I think it chose Jaime because it knew that he's a good guy. The scarab chose somebody who would use their powers for good. If you go back into the bug lair and you see Ted Kord's previous Blue Beetle uniforms it was from a guy that had money, was a little bit eccentric, and would create these outfits for himself...but he couldn't fly anywhere.
What can fans expect from Blue Beetle's costume?
You've seen nothing until you've seen the Blue Beetle costume deploy and the pincers retract! It's amazing to see him fly and fight. He operates in a dark blue and black costume, similar to charcoal, which may be the coolest colors of all time. It feels more like a skin than an actual costume. I've seen a lot of bugs in my day, but I've never seen one that looks like that.
How is being a part of Blue Beetle meaningful to you?
As an actor, I've been fortunate enough to have done stand-up for a long time, had my own show named after me, and a number of other incredible things in my career. However, I would have hated to not be involved in this project. If I wasn't cast in this movie it would've been heartbreaking in a sense, but I'm honored to be a part of it. To know that you're specifically chosen to be in this great project, and give life  to a guy like Rudy, is beyond an honor.

The JLA and the JSA share the Hall Of Justice as their headquarters.
Due to multiple superheroes also sharing an alias under one roof, the JLA and JSA have adopted a "legacy numbering" system when calling for specific members (ie Wally West is Flash #3, Ted Kord is Blue Beetle #2, Damian Wayne is Robin #5) to avoid confusion and keep secret identities intact.

So I will admit I don’t know much about canon Kord Industries but from your fics I get the vibe “hey we actually make things that aren’t difficult to repair and don’t sell you crap that’s designed to be replaced in 2-5 years” is a genuine part of their business strategy And Yet keeps playing second fiddle to Apple and LexCorp
Oh absolutely. For me, I just kind of split "Apple" as a tech industry between LexCorp and Wayne Industries. I love the idea of Kord Industries having a strong emphasis on accessibility--which is why I joke that they would absolutely be the company to come up with the DC universe equivalents of LimeBikes and E-Scooters--in theory they're cool and sustainable and even kind of charming, in practice THEY'RE A DAMN MENACE (the number of complete morons on scooters I've had to deal with here in the bay area...). Actually one of the things I LOVED about the Blue Beetle movie was everyone handling these adorable chunky 80's looking KordTech gadgets and going, "Wow it's like if Batman had ADHD" and it's like YES! ABSOLUTELY. My brain just goes, "Chunky! Whimsical! Y2K!!" whenever I think of Kord Industries design aesthetics.
Really it's kind of slim pickings for Ted Kord comics in my library system--we have WAY more Jaime Reyes stuff, so I'm with you on not having a lot of actual in-text experience with Ted Kord, but I'm able to semi-extrapolate from my experience with Nite Owl in Watchmen (Who Moore originally wanted to be Blue Beetle) and from his general impact in comics at large, both in actual comics and in wiki articles.

They Would Not Fucking Say That! Preliminary Poll
Guy Gardner (Green Lantern)
From: Justice League (1987) #2, New Earth Context: Three supers from a world destroyed by nuclear weapons were dismantling nuclear missiles
Guy says only "Ronnie-boy" should have nukes
Guy Gardner is a character all about physicality. He fights with his fists first, his heart second, and his brain last. This is because he was in a vegetative state for two to five years (the number varies) and now he must move as much as possible. He hates psychics. He hates mind reading. He hates predictions of his future. He hates being boxed in. He prioritizes personal freedom above all else.
When Keith Giffen and JM DeMatteis started writing Guy Gardner for the Justice League/Justice League International/Justice League America, they did not work collaboratively with Steve Englehart, the writer who was establishing Guy's post brain damage personality, to make sure that Guy Gardner was consistent across both books like they did with Dan Jurgens for Booster Gold. Giffen has even gone on record to say that he never read ANY of Guy's books before writing him. There were 20 issues with his new personality as written by Englehart.
If you read those 20 books you find that Guy reacts poorly to authority after he followed the orders of the Guardians of Oa (Green Lantern bosses) that "restored" his brain and was the only one who got punished. Even more interesting is the fact that Green Lantern Corps #210 (cover date March 1987) has Guy Gardner explicitly say he doesn't like nuclear weapons and prefers fist fighting. Something contradicted in Giffen and DeMatteis Justice League #2 (cover date May 1987).
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Two panels, each from a different comic. The first is a panel of Guy Gardner, Martian Manhunter, Batman, and Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) standing in a line. Guy says "I love it! Let's hope those three take out every two-bit country that's packin' nukes! Nobody but Ronnie-boy should have his finger on the button! Then we'd have the world where we want it, huh?" Martian Manhunter thinks "Pathetic!" Batman thinks "Infuriating!" Blue Beetle thinks "Jerk!"
The second is a panel of Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan, Arisia, Saalak, and Ch'p, flying above Green Lanterns, Guy Gardner and Kilowog, who are on the ground with Green Lanterns, John Stewart and Katma Tui, who are currently unconscious and on a stretcher. Russian military officials approach Guy and Kilowog, who are looking at the dead body of the original Rocket Red, Josef Denisovich. Hal says "It couldn't have been any worse than what we faced. Keeping World War 3 under wraps!" Arisia says "Relax, Generals-- no missiles are coming!" Guy says "Missiles! Nuts! That's not man-to-man stuff! There's no glory without man-to-man stuff!" /End ID]

DC/Marvel characters that you're more familiar with to write for?
Glad you asked! So I'd definitely say I'm more familiar with DC than Marvel. All of the major Justice League Members I'm fairly confident on. (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman). Honestly I think I could do a pretty good job on any DC character, even the deeper cuts, like Adam Strange or Etrigan. As far as Marvel I'm pretty confident on X-Men members, Spiderman, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four. I can definitely write the Avengers but I know there’s already a lot of those fics out there.
Some of my favorite characters that aren't as popular but I love and would love to write: Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), Booster Gold, the Doom Patrol (Grant Morrison run/Show inspired), Animal Man, Shocker, Martian Manhunter, Killer Moth, Owl-Man (Watchmen), Green Arrow, and Plastic Man. I love weirdos, fuckups, and fail-kings.
I also love all villans and probably specialize in writing them. Obviously Batman’s Rogues are number one but the Sinister Six (and by Six I mean Spidermans entire Rogues Gallery), Flash’s Rogues, and The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants are all great and really fun to write. That said, I love all villans. If you wanna be making out with Dr. Sivana’s chrome dome, plotting to murder a literal baby with Black Manta, snorting a line with Snowflame, or rolling around town with Big Wheel then I want to help fulfill that dream. There is no villan too niche, and the weirder the better in my book.
All this being said, my partner in crime is a veritable encyclopedia for all things Marvel and DC so if there's a character you want that I don't know super well, shoot me an ask anyway. He can give me a run down on every appearance they've ever had and make sure I'm doing them justice lol.
The one thing I will say is that like a lot of comic book fans I tend to hodgepodge together my own interpretations of characters based on the comic runs I like, vibes-based headcanon, and ignoring anything I think is bad characterization. (Looking at you Ultimate Marvel). I also don't engage in much fandom outside of my little bubble so my characterization might not match with what's majorly accepted fanon. But I think that's fun in its own way and I always try to do characters justice.
If you have any more questions or want to clarify anything feel free to ask!

For the salty asks:
Number 10
My most disliked arc, I know I mainly write for total drama but my takes for this show are very surface level in thee sense of my takes are 'yes that did indeed happen.' lol
One of my disliked arcs would be Identity Crisis, it had all my least favorite things
Violence against women because 'this isn't your parents comic book'
Character assignation
The domino effect that caused writers to turn Maxwell Lord bad and he killed Ted Kord (spoiler for an 18 year old comic).
Batman made 1984 and for some reason people don't bitch at him enough? Diana should have let Booster punch him tbh. I would have. And I would win.
The only good thing that came from it was Generations Lost. Everything that it connects to can kick rocks

if the time booster sent everyone to hell wasnt even in his top ten fuckups. then. what actually were, would you say, his top ten fuckups
ok ok not in any numbered order (maybe vaguely)
his origin story, betting on his own matches and ruining his football career, not only did this ruin his life in terms of losing his awesome football star lifestyle it also caused his mom and sister michelle to push him away being ashamed of him for gambling, the very thing that their dad left them for
speaking of michelle, not accepting the titans offer to help on his rescue mission to save michelle on the day she died. WHOOPS! if he had more help from the start he wouldnt have been put in the position where hed have to choose between michelles life and hundreds of peoples. and maybe he couldve turned the tables
speaking of dead loved ones, the LETS SAVE TED KORD compilation (9 hrs, very funny), despite being told over and over again attempting to save teds life would fuck up a million things timewise, he just wouldnt listen (can you blame him?) and ended up in a lot of trouble with the time cops for that. he went to jail even! a tragic fuckup but so are most of these
almost killed a guy in front of his young daughter
was very misinformed and overconfident in the overmaster arc bcuz of what he thought he remembered of the past which led to him almost dying (DID die actually. but got better)
was doing recruitment for his new superteam the conglomerate during scotts funeral (which is probably the angriest ted has ever been at him leading to their very fun first breakup arc)
almost started a war during the flintstones crossover special i think
he (and ted) drove that vampire to commit suicide that one time. also club JLI which im tacking onto this one bcuz those are very BLUE AND GOLD fuckups but im trying to focus on booster solos
like everything in 52, namely hiring people to pretend to be villains he could beat up for fame and in turn getting yelled at on live tv by ralph dibny for it. and then he faked his death and everyone was like WHAT A FUCKING LOSER. he also broke the multiverse or soemthng idk
(sigh) you can include The Gift as well. I guess. brought the worlds worst wedding gift to batman and selina. im adding a bonus one though bcuz i was forced to acknowledge TK
was mean to tora that one time she asked him and ted if they wanted to go on a roadtrip together

Note
what were the things that you found most interesting about the Blue Beetle trailer?
Well, the most things that I found engrossing about the trailer is how they managed to pay justice to the comics in a way since I personally found 9 DC Universe Easter Eggs and references.
The first Blue Beetle trailer provides a wealth of information on Jaime Reyes' narrative, earlier Blue Beetles that have lived in this time-frame, and how Blue Beetle fits into the DC Universe. Although Jaime Reyes was the third figure to assume the identity of Blue Beetle in DC Comics history, Blue Beetle has been a superhero pseudonym since 1939. Prior to making his big-screen debut in Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Jaime had made appearances in a number of animated TV Show episodes, animated movies, and video games.
Although nothing in the Blue Beetle trailer links it to the previous DCEU, it is also unclear from the trailer if Blue Beetle is a member of James Gunn's DC Universe.
1. Blue Beetle’s Trailer Teases DC’s The Reach
Tumblr media
Jaime says in the trailer for Blue Beetle that "everything right now feels so out of reach." Despite the fact that this may just be an ordinary phrase, the words used here allude to important Blue Beetle antagonists from the comics—the Reach. The Reach are galactic conquerors that employ very cutting-edge technology to attack and seize control of worlds. They were first introduced as a part of Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle history but retconned into the prior Blue Beetles storylines. The Scarabs were made by the Reach and dispersed to other worlds. The Scarabs' task at that point was to locate local hosts and train them to act as lieutenants in the Reach invasion.
It is impossible to predict how Blue Beetle's origin narrative will develop in the next DC movie because Blue Beetle's Scarab was retconned as a mystical relic during DC Rebirth. That being said, the simplest approach to combine all prior Blue Beetles into one fairly straightforward tale would be to tie the origins of Blue Beetle's Scarab to extraterrestrial conquerors who have been plotting to conquer the globe since the Dan Garrett Blue Beetle days. The Reach may make for fantastic antagonists in a Blue Beetle sequel, but it is unknown whether they will feature in Blue Beetle in any manner.
2. Blue Beetle’s Scarab Is Sentient (And It Talks)
Tumblr media
Jaime Reyes played the lead role in Young Justice season 2, also known as Young Justice: Invasion. For many people, the Blue Beetle narrative in Young Justice featured the Reach as primary enemies and served as their first exposure to the character. The Blue Beetle trailer implies that the next DC Universe film will draw inspiration from Young Justice's Blue Beetle, including the notion that the Scarab is sentient and can communicate with Jaime. The Scarab will be spoken by a new, as of yet unidentified actor in Blue Beetle as opposed to Young Justice, when both Jaime and the Scarab had the same voice.
3. Dan Garrett’s Blue Beetle Costume
Tumblr media
The first Blue Beetle, who was formerly known as Dan Garret, first debuted in Fox Comics' Mystery Men Comics in 1939. Decades later, in 1986's Secret Origins Vol. 2, the first Blue Beetle would be introduced into the DC Comics canon, however it was based on the Charlton Comics version of the character. Dan Garrett, who came into contact with the Scarab while on an expedition, served as the first Blue Beetle according to the current DC Comics canon. Major mythology implications stem from Dan Garrett's Blue Beetle outfit in the Blue Beetle trailer, which indicates that superheroes have been around in this planet for some time.
4. Kord Industries Makes Its DC Movie Debut
Tumblr media
One of the most significant fictional corporations in DC, along with Wayne Enterprises, Lex Corp, Hold Industries, and Queen Consolidates, is Kord Industries. Ted Kord, who worked as Dan Garrett's apprentice, was the second Blue Beetle in the current DC Comics universe. Ted Kord did not use the Scarab while he was a Blue Beetle, nor does he possess any superhuman abilities. However, the Blue Beetle trailer implies that Ted Kord's company, Kord Industries, was researching the Scarab because of his considerable wealth. It is unknown who will play Ted Kord in the movie Blue Beetle or whether the second Blue Beetle will ever make an appearance.
5. Ted Kord’s Blue Beetle Costume
Tumblr media
Ted Kord's Blue Beetle outfit is another that can be seen in the Blue Beetle trailer. Although Ted Kord's Blue Beetle outfit is quite similar to Dan Garrett's, Ted Kord never used the Scarab to give him superpowers or any unique abilities. The Batman allusion in the Blue Beetle trailer is enhanced by the fact that Ted Kord's interpretation of the Blue Beetle is more similar to Batman than it is to Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle abilities. If Ted Kord does appear in Blue Beetle, it is unknown whether the future DC film will include the second Blue Beetle in action.
6. Blue Beetle’s Villain Is Victoria Kord
Tumblr media
Blue Beetle: Graduation Day, a new Blue Beetle solo comic book, was published by DC Comics in advance of the publication of Blue Beetle. Although the latest Blue Beetle comic is set in the standard DC Comics chronology, it features ideas and characters from the impending film, as is customary when a major DC film is ready to come out. This includes Ted Kord's sister Victoria Kord, whose motivations were unclear in the comic. The Blue Beetle trailer, however, very certainly establishes Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) as the film's antagonist because she wants to recapture the Scarab that has since fused with Jaime Reyes.
7. Blue Beetle's Trailer References Batman (But Which One?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Jaime comments in the Blue Beetle trailer that the Ted Kord's Blue Beetle devices resemble something Batman might use, Rudy (George Lopez) responds, "Batman's a fascist." This conversation demonstrates that Batman lives in the world of the Blue Beetle. Which reality does Blue Beetle exist in, though? Blue Beetle is "a marvelous part of the DCU," according to James Gunn (via DC), despite the Blue Beetle movie's position as canon in the new DC Universe is not yet known. The Batman in question is the yet-to-be-cast character from The Brave and the Bold if Blue Battle occurs in Gunn's DC Universe plan.
8. Blue Beetle Keeps Jaime Reyes’ Comic Book Identity Twist
Tumblr media
The fact that Jaime Reyes' family is aware of his secret identity lends a special touch to the Blue Beetle story. Secret identities sometimes play a significant role in the tales of DC Comics characters, such as Clark Kent's spectacles, Batman's use of Bruce Wayne as the real mask, etc. Jaime Reyes, however, does not need to keep his heroic exploits a secret from his loved ones. From what I think according to the Blue Beetle trailer, Jaime's family will witness the very moment the Scarab combines with him, indicating that he was not even given the chance to conceal his abilities.
9. Ted Kord’s Blue Beetle Bug Ship
Tumblr media
The Blue Beetle Bug spacecraft, Ted Kord's heroic vehicle, is another significant Easter egg that I found in the Blue Beetle trailer that alludes to him. The Blue Beetle bug ship's existence is proof that Ted Kord was a superhero once upon a time in the Blue Beetle universe, albeit when and for how long is still unknown. It is not a coincidence that Blue Beetle's spacecraft resembles the Owlship from Watchmen, since Nite Owl was influenced by various DC characters, including Blue Beetle. The Blue Beetle spacecraft was designed by Ted Kord and does not use any technology from extraterrestrial life, just like the rest of the second Blue Beetle.

beetle's HEART is in the RIGHT PLACE.
it's his MIND that keeps MESSING HIM UP.
Tumblr media
A STUDY OF ... the inability to retire. identity of doubt. denied by fate. the boy who called wolf. the unreliable narrator. someone better than i. my only friends.
THEODORE KORD from DETECTIVE COMICS.
engineered by nami.
this blog follows from @vitrumbra
hi! my name is nami, i use it/its pronouns, and i'm an animator(i have a degree lmfao).
this is a blog for TED KORD! this is PRE-N52/REBIRTH and his main verse takes place years after his death in COUNTDOWN TO INFINITE CRISIS where in for an unknown reason, he comes back to life. i still haven't read blue and gold, but it's possible my interpretation will slightly change because of it. as of now, though, i base ted on countdown, as well as his origin comic SECRET ORIGINS ISSUE 2.
Don't be a dick. This is probably my number one thing, this is for tumblr, it's writing, it's for fun. So lets have fun.
OC. Crossovers. Duplicates. I LOVE ALL OF THESE!!!!!!!! I am a huge advocate for ocs, especially as an oc writing myself :] I love ocs, give me your ocs. Give me crossovers too!!! He is literally from another world than main verse, so yes. Then duplicates, I LOVE DUPLICATE!!! I love discussing them and writing the interactions and WAGH!! Whether it be twin verses or otherwise, I grabby.
Selective. Mutuals Only. For the sake of my comfort, this blog is selective and mutuals only, meaning if I don't follow you, please don't try to thread with me or reblog my posts. I'm okay with sending questions or anons, but actual threads is a nono.
Mun =/= Muse. I AM NOT TED. Big important, I do not condone any of his actions. Please don't equate his morals and actions to my own.
I will not hold back my muse. I don't like to restrict or hold back my muse. I let the muse go in the directions the muse wants. The second I feel forced or the muse feels forced to do something that's out of character or unrealistic for the character, it causes inspiration to dwindle.
Triggers. This blog is 18+ only it will contain triggers. i try to tag as much as i can, but i am bound to miss things.
Discord/IMs. Discord is open for mutuals!! I am practically always on discord, I do the occasional discord drop, but all you have to do is ask and I'll give it to you.
Other Blogs. I have........a lot of other blogs. This blog is also a side blog. A side blog to VITRUMBA! I also have a LOT of other blogs, so if I'm not here, I'm there.
Activity. I have recently graduated from art college in Animation! So I am extremely busy trying to find a job and the like. This blog is LOW ACTIVITY.
Length. I have a habit of writing a lot. Like a lot-- You don't need to match my length, I just ask you give me enough to work with...that being said if you reply to like 5 paragraphs with a single sentence, I probably won't continue the thread lol.
I think that's it? I'll add more if necessary :)
