now. do i like sylvia plath? no.
however comma, one of my favorite memories involves her. in high school i was on my school’s scholastic bowl team. (this is a sport composed of a ton of nerds sitting around with buzzers getting HEATED over trivia. i am EXCELLENT at it)
it was the final question of the round, it was my first season of in person play, the captain was my dear friend who happens to be the gayest man i’ve ever met.
the question quoted the poem daddy. something about mein kampf idk. he SLAMS his buzzer, and the match was won by a twink yelling daddy damn near at the top of his lungs.
good times

Why didn't I come out before I quit my volleyball team ?
Because most of my teammates where immature little bitches (the kind that talk shit behind your back and associate to bully one of their own teammates in ways the coach won't notice) and they would have probably reacted like that :
"Oh my god !! You're watching us in the showers ?!??"
No, Emily, I'm just washing myself while trying to hide my own body because of my overwhelming self-hatred and very obvious evidence of self-harm (which you have very probably noticed anyway but we don't talk about that because you don't really care about me and it makes you uncomfortable)

I will never shut up about how ironically progressive Quadball aka Quidditch for muggles is, because it so funny. It has been so pro non-binary and trans people for a long time and even changed the name in 2022 to isolate it from JK.R.
In Quadball it's important that all of the maximum four players identify as the same gender. This is known as the "four maximum" rule:
A quidditch game allows each team to have a maximum of four players, not including the seeker, who identify as the same gender in active play on the field at the same time. The gender that a player identifies with is considered to be that player's gender, which may or may not correspond with that person's sex. This is commonly referred to as the "four maximum" rule. USQ accepts those who don't identify within the binary gender system and acknowledges that not all of our players identify as male or female. USQ welcomes people of all identities and genders into our league.
So yeah, basically, there's the men's team, there's the women's team and there's the non-binary team. It doesn't matter if you're pre transition. You a man? You go to the men's team. It's against the rules for trans men to be on women's team, regardless of how they look, if they wants to be on a men's team, because they identify as a man they have to.

competitive swimming & blue lock
was thinking about how the blue lock philosophy is literally everything i've learned (and am still learning) during my years as a competitive swimmer and how the 'believe you're the best to become the best' motto is literally PREACHED in other sports, but have it show up in football and you're literally the devil. huh, what's up with that?
so i've seen blue lock gets hate (from what i've seen) from not having 'team dynamics' and shredding the 'value of friendship and camaraderie' but in reality a lot of 'team sports' like swimming & tennis, where ppl ALSO work together (relays, doubles matches), have the most toxic mindset possible when it comes to teamwork. like i was taught if i dove in too early during a relay (you can't dive in before the person in the water touches the wall) then it wasn't my fault, but the person IN THE WATER who had slowed down somewhat imperceptibly before touching the wall.
honestly, the lack of a team dynamic in blue lock makes it better?? to me, at least. blue lock to me is like... how free! should have been. now, free! fans leave me alone. i watched 3 episodes of that shit and ran away in fear due to inaccuracy. but in the short amount that i watched, the show felt really weird. i've been a competitive swimmer for a decade now, so trust me when i say i know what i'm talking about here. one of things that felt really off to me was the fact that everyone was so... okay with eachother. i've been on 4 swim teams in my life, and none of them were as happy as that itawobi club. sure, there's only 4 people, but there is 100% going to be conflict between them, especially since there's no coach?? like idk if they get one later on or smth but like,,, how u gonna get better if u got no one teaching you?? idk but that shit confusing man.
anyways back on topic. blue lock. i love blue lock. the fact that everyone gets along on the surface but in reality is trying to beat the other people is exactly the feeling i get during a competition or even just practice. it's real, not just a manga special effects thing that the author made up to look edgy. i just know that if blue lock was about like,, track and field or swimming or some shit it would not be getting compared to high school slice of life anime like haikyuu. no hate to haikyuu i love it, but blue lock is just... on another level. like the way that everything is executed feels so real and gives me that sense of competition that i only get from sport. like i KNOW that these characters feel the same as i do, and that's why it makes it fun.

One a rare occasion i actually agreed with my mum. I think Australian culture puts way too much emphasis on team sports.
Like obviously there are benefits and all that shit but it 1) it turns off kids who aren’t good at jt 2) even if you are really good at it very few people actually stick with it into adulthood, because of less opertunity and time/work commitments so people end up inactive either way.
There needs to be more opertunity to develop non competitive single sports, the more cool ones do require equipment/resources but stuff like swimming or running or general exercise/working out isn’t completely out of the question.
I knew somone is school who was useless at sport (same with me) coordination like a jenga tower and couldn’t catch a ball for shit. But as an adult he got really into running and now also doesn’t some casual lifting. Whereas the star athlete after a failed attempt at going pro golf went totally inactive and got fat. I think what might have helped in the former case their school offered “strength and conditioning” as a phys ed option (now granted this was a fancy private school with resources so they might have had a gym) but still i feel like there are other options aside from competitive and team sports
i’ve barely exercised in my life untill somone suggest i go swimming which was i was totally against because of my unpleasant memories of conpetirve swimming and swimming lessons. But now i swim once a week at least cause i found it nice jaut being able to swim for swimming sake. Being active is more important than sportsmanship or competitiveness

I Joined a Roller Derby Team at Age 40
Roller derby is one of the only “fun” things I do in my life that is truly just for me. I don’t have to lead anything. I don’t have a ton of responsibility other than showing up and giving my best. I get to just…have FUN.
Do you ever think about whether you have any fun in your life? I’m guessing that “fun” is not something that is very present in many of our lives. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the everyday stressors and responsibilities of parenting, work, relationships, and life in general. It’s also easy for many of us to point to things like our community work, our volunteer hours, or other ways that we…

It would be EXTREMELY hilarious if Team Sports comes back because of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Like, SNK gets an onslaught on Ronaldo stans, now interested in Fatal Fury, and they're just like "Oh shit, bring back the sports guys".
