I think that was partly GRRM's intention in Fire & Blood. It doesn't seem unreasonable that it would translate to the screen. Many works of fiction use undesirable morals or amorality to further the plot.

Although I don't always enjoy GRRM's writing, I think his characterization of both sides shows how devastating thinking they, and only they, are right can be. As the HBO series moves forward I know they could stray from the source material even more. However, I think it will probably skew toward making Alicent and her family appear more righteous.

If they stick with the source material, we will get a lot more violence and destruction from all sides. It's not uncommon for dragon riders to feed people to the dragon (Aemond does it). Pretty much every person involved in the Dance inflicts or is the recipient of suffering. No one is exempt.

Daemon taught Rhaenyra that they're dragons who take what they want, who they want, when they want and that they're justified because they're better than everyone else because of their heritage. Then we see Rhaenyra embody this ideal: taking sex from a reluctant Criston to satisfy her needs and then tossing him aside, coming up with the "dine as we please" proposal that resulted in obvious bastards, sleeping with Daemon the same night as his wife's funeral, using her illegitimate children to unlawfully take Driftmark from the Velaryons, in the books feeding Vaemond to her dragon because he questioned her. Targaryen superiority is imbedded into Team Black's MO and for the most part the show and general audience uncritically lap it up. But are we really supposed to root for and justify the idea that a group of people is superior because of their racial makeup, and therefore the pursuit of their goals and desires is justified above all else, even if others are hurt in the process? Even if they have to use fear and violence to maintain their power over others?

TG stans love to say that jaehaera can't die in HOTD because it's her marriage to aegon iii marks the end of the dance "two scared kids bla bla bla" but I think that in GOT canon this marriage is NEVER mentioned? Shireen doesn't mention Jaehaera and Aegon III, she just says how horrible the dance of the dragons was for House Targaryen and how she wouldn't choose any sides. this marriage don't exist GOT canon.

Why would Shireen mention Jaehaera and Aegon's marriage when she was talking about the devastating effects of the war outside of the Targs themselves (their family's tragedies)? She also didn't talk about Aegon's marriage to Daenaera, once again bec how the Targs recovered or didn't recover personally was not what Shireen was talking about. Also, GRRM wrote F&B way after the first few main books of the series and after AWoIaF is published.

Either way, the YouTube also existed before GRRM wrote F&B, which had some changes from that narration. Team green (as in the fans and those who say they aren't TG but show themselves as such and lie to themselves) is clinging.

Fire and Blood was published November 20, 2018.

The entire "Game of Thrones: Histories & Lore" animated series of six installments began back in 2012 & ended officially in 2019.

The "The Dance of Dragons" animation was both published in 2016 AND was based on G.R.R. Martin’s novella The Princess and the Queen (published in December 3, 2013), not Fire & Blood.

The BluRay episode of the Dance didn't include anything about Jaehaera's death or marriage to Aegon, nor anything about Aegon's regency or Daenaera BECAUSE IT ENDED with it saying that Aegon's marriage to Jaehaera ended the Dance, or the war itself. But it didn't end the ambitions of Unwin Peake and others, (which lead to Jaehaera's death) the story of which existed since at least 1998 on record. But definitely GRRM planned and wrote this storyline years before said publishing date, bc that's how that works.

This means that whatever sort of BluRay feature they are clinging to doesn't matter bc Daenaera being Aegon's 2nd wife/mother to his kids means that Jaehaera was always slotted to die even as she marries Aegon first.

"The Princess and the Queen" was meant to be a sort of "teaser" for Fire and Blood, and thus doesn't include anything about the greens or Rhaenyra/Alicent and Viserys before the usurpation and after Aegon II's death:

Why in god's green earth would GRRM upend years of writing Jaehaera and Daenaera's fates/narrative purposes the way he has for the comfort and delusions of a few so called "neutrals" and green stans?! Those who refuse to take in what they are "reading"?!

Apparently, this is the post (before this edit) that some in TG have decided to disseminate amongst themselves and choose to outright distort into me saying that Jaehaera shouldn't and doesn't become Aegon's first wife. Never said anything of the sort. I said she doesn't live to become the mother of his kids nor be a direct ancestor to any of the Targs who lived post-Dance and as scions of either Viserys II or Aegon III. I said so in seevral other posts, but this is the one they want to use to say I said something I did not say.

It is disengenuous and lazy, frankly. But what ese can you expect from people who would use BluRay videos as "true" canon or stronger evidence of Daenaera's not being Aegon's second wife/mother to his kids/grandmother to Daemon Blackfyres and thus ancestor to all Blackfyres OVER several AWoIaF and main series mentions/confirmations as the this?

Making sense of S08E01

While some of the parts of Episode 1 have turned out as predicted/expected including Daenerys facing opposition from the Northern Lords and their displeasure at Jon having bent the knee, Jon being told the truth of his parentage, Bran telling Daenerys about the situation of the Wall and wightViserion, there is one thing that did surprise me to some extent and that is Jon and Daenerys going for a joy-ride on Drogon and Rhaegal amidst the chaos and imminent danger the North faces now that the Wall has fallen.

I am not sure when we see this sequence but if it happens AFTER the Northern Lords Assembly with Daenerys and Jon and Tyrion, then it makes sense for Jon to don his PoliticalJon cap and whisk Daenerys away to not only assuage her fears and discomfiture but to reaffirm his “love” for her. Cue the cringe-worthy romance and dragon-riding. I am firmly on team Not make Jon ride a lizard WMD but oh well.

From the politicalJon standpoint, it makes sense as to why Jon is doing what he is doing. However, let’s put aside this theory and look for other potential explanations of why we see Jon riding Rhaegal and seemingly being in love with Daenerys from a more objective and general perspective. The audience thinks Jon and Daenerys are in love, so to pick things up from where they ended last season, it is only natural for them to act that way. Daenerys is truly in love with him and EC is acting her heart out in demonstrating that. The doubts lie with KH’s expressions and while I believe in PoliticalJon, most of GA does not subscribe to this theory (they think Jon is honorable to the bone, yawn!!!). The GA think A Song of Ice and Fire means A love song of Jon and Daenerys. While it’s clearly far from that, the GA firmly believe that. D&D are making a show for the masses, giving them J/D romance is their way of keeping them happy. The real catch lies in what happens after.

As I mentioned, there is another way to explain this segment that is reminiscent of something that we have seen before. (reiterating LF’s “everything that happens will be something that you have seen before” line because it is pertinent)

Jon and Daenerys looking all loved up at the start of the S8 is to ensure that the GA and their old nans are lulled into this belief. 

Jon “could be in love” with Daenerys, simply because he does not know the full extent of her journey through Yunkai, Astapor, Meereen. What he hears are the good things he has been told by Tyrion and Missandei, both completely drunk on the Khaleesi Koolaid. He knows Daenerys went to deal with the Lannisters, but he does not know about the Tarlys being burned alive, at least not at the point in the episode when this dragon romance montage happens. Tyrion and Varys never tell him what she did to the Tarlys. Killing helpless, outnumbered, and overpowered Lannisters....yeah Jon does not know about that either. He remembers Sansa’s lessons about not trusting Cersei and the Lannisters are his enemy foremost. Additionally, what Jon sees is her coming to their rescue during Wight Hunt and given how useful the dragons were in obliterating hundreds of wights (even though the walkers and NK are immune to fire), he still thinks that “Daenerys is our only chance”....it’s a misjudgment on Jon’s part. He is incorrect and just does not fully know it yet. This isn’t the first time he has misjudged his enemies abilities....remember Ramsay and his battle nous at the Battle of the Bastards. Ramsay beat Jon in his own game of planning the battle out, pincer move and all that. In time, even Jon will come to realise that dragonfire is not the answer to defeat the NK.

So safe to say, it would not be too farfetched to think Jon is in love with her. The GA is certainly convinced, so kudos to D&D.

This J/D romance is a callback to S05E04 The Sons of the Harpy....when we see a very moving, heartfelt, and emotional scene between Stannis and Shireen...where Stannis talks about how he refused to send a baby Shireen away to Valyria for her greyscale and how he left no stone unturned to cure her and says “You are the Princess Shireen of House Baratheon and you are my daughter”

and the background music swells when Shireen rushes to hug Stannis and this moment is so touching..so emotional that it really goes a long way to make Stannis look like a proper human who is a parent to a wonderful and innocent child.......right???

Think again.

How long did it take to get from that to this, when Stannis burns Shireen because he wants to fulfill his destiny in an episode titled S05E09 The Dance of the Dragons???? 

Not even 6 episodes!!!!!

Even now, book fans and show fans think Stannis the Mannis was the rightful ruler and have a hard time coming to terms to Shireen’s burning. However, if you have paid attention to this show, all the signs were there...right from the start. In fact, we are introduced to Stannis for the first time in a scene, where he is burning his brother by law on the Dragonstone beach.....is it any surprise that he would not burn his own daughter who has king’s blood to become the Prince that was promised???? Shireen’s death by fire was shocking and disturbing AF but was clearly not unexpected if you had read the signs and the writing on the wall.

How long do we think it is going to take Jon and Daenerys to go from that “loved-up” to this????

All I am saying is that we believe in Political Jon theory, we believe in Dance of the Dragons 2.0, the GA either does not know about these or does not think will ever happen. We must be delulu Jonsas, if we are coming up with these theories right?????

Well, think again.....because D&D are absolutely coming for the GA with this shocking sledgehammer of making Jon and Daenerys fight.

They fucked and now they will fight. Jon and Daenerys are fundamentally different individuals not because they are “ice” and “fire”, but because one is a defender, “the shield that guards the realms of men” while the other is a conqueror who takes what she wants with “fire and blood”. They want fundamentally different things with their lives.

This season will be a season of revelations, not just for the characters as they figure out who they are, what they want and what they have always been...but also for the audience to wake up and smell the coffee and come to terms with who and what these characters are. It is a season of “truth”. They will make us choose between Jon and Daenerys and can it get any more ironic than the fact that in a promo named “Together” we see the fraction of Jon-Daenerys alliance taking place???

We have a shot of two dragons flying, from the dragon-flying montage possibly, followed by this scene of Jon walking away and leaving Daenerys...indicating the collapse of their alliance. (I personally think this shot happens in context with Sansa’s kidnapping plot but we’ll see.)

As my followers know, I'm not a team person (other than Team Princess Shireen Baratheon). I don't generalize about any part of any fandom.

I'm sharing this because I love Nettles and this post makes some great points (even if couched in team-speak). I love having a dialogue about HotD and all of it's wonderful aspects and many of its huge flaws.

Not having Nettles in the series would be a huge mistake. I have just been happily hoping for her until they disappoint me. (I probably will be disappointed). She is a fascinating character and could be translated to series in so many wonderful ways. I'm not naïve enough to think this will happen but until it doesn't I will live in my delusional world, optimistic that she will be brought to life in a way that honors her badassery.

Just came from Team Black discourse and jezz,that people oozed racism from their skin. Dumbnyra stans proclaim Addam is the most important dragonseed so of course he would appear first and Nettles is ""Uninteresting and boring."/"she’s way overhyped and people often talk about her like she’s some YA protagonist rather than a side character in asoiaf"(their words)

Pardon me, even GRRM said he wanted to explore Nettles's story. Also have they seen how freaking lame is Missy Anne which basically did nothing on the war, her dragon sucks and was the only ruler kicked out from the throne by the smallfolk.

No offense to Addam, but they hype him up like that cause even though queen crazy tried to kill/maim him, that man stayed loyal to her and died for her.

He is literally the only dragonseed that stayed loyal to her. His sole purpose is to be loyal to her and sacrifice his life for her which is why this is the only official artwork/picture we have of him:

The Loyal inscription looks like it is encased in a heart. Cough, he does what they wish Daemon did, cough.

In the end, his sacrifice is ultimately meaningless because the queen he died to protect ends up dying too.

The boy who dies and has no legacy(Alyn is the one who carries on the Velaryon name), is not nor will ever be more important than Nettles, but of course, he is going to get all the kudos instead of the girl who she tried to murder in her sleep because she couldn't stand that her husband fell in love with a Black girl(just like her weirdo stans).

They can say what they like though cause if Nettles was truly irrelevant/uninteresting she would’ve died, they would treat her like they do Mysaria, and yeah GRRM wouldn't have said this.

Now I won't dunk on them for liking Missy Anne. She has qualities, but there are plenty of people who love secondary characters(which is what Nettles is) more than the major players(see the Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Star Wars fandoms to name a few).

Case in point, you have people who made up a whole backstory about General Hux from Star Wars (who is just a secondary character) with him being abused by his father and having some cat named Millicent. People were creating more content for him than they were Finn who was a main character(which I won't get into, but the Star Wars fandom is a fucking mess for the same reasons as the HOTD fandom).

So people liking/hyping up Nettles for being a bastard orphan girl who claims a wild dragon, has a prince willing to die for her, and survives the Dance(all canonical things mind you) doesn’t even top the turning secondary/minor characters into YA protagonists list and Nettles barely has any fans to begin with.

One can count the people who consistently post about her and/or who genuinely care about her character on about two hands and some change. These people are spazzing out over a fandom that consists of like 20 people (which makes this all the more hilarious). I wish she was more hyped than she was cause she's an awesome character, but she isn't that popular at all.

I cannot repeat this enough, they only shit on Nettles cause she isn't there to serve as Missy Anne’s mammy. That’s the only time they like Black women or Black characters and don’t mind us being included.

We have to serve them to be deemed worthy of inclusion(hence why they welcome a racebent Addam), but Nettles has her own story arc complete with surviving the Dance(she’s the only one who fought in the war that still had her dragon) and become a fire witch/goddess.

If that's being uninteresting, well then, she’s a very uninteresting character.

As most of my followers know by now, I support these two equally. When I see either one my first thought is immediately "what a beautiful fucking man!"

I don't think one is more popular than the other, I think it's partly fan demographics. And some groups are louder than others. The team ideology annoys me but that's a post for another day. What I find bizarre is that people can't support their war criminal without bashing the other.

What good does that do? How does that make the fandom any more fun? (Rhetorical. It doesn't.) I have one foot planted firmly in each camp. My boy Aemond is lithe and fae and so intelligent that I get weak. My man Daemon is strong and seductive and duplicitous (and more than a little amoral).

I love them for different reasons but I also love their similarities. I love Aemond's ambivalence toward his uncle (ambivalence means holding conflicted feelings, not indifference). I appreciate how Daemon's feelings toward his nephew had to change after Lucerys's death.

Mostly I appreciate that these two actors are so dedicated and hard working that they have made a fandom feel the need to choose between them.
