Ok consider:
A new hero emerges and the Justice League watches him for a while who make sure he’s not a threat. They see this giant clumsy man who moves like he’s not used to his body, smiles goofily every time he saves someone, and is clearly inexperienced with his powers and they’re all just like. Ah. This is a child.
Except they don’t think he’s a ten year old or however old Billy is at the time, no no. Clearly this hero came into existence shortly before his first appearance, just a few months ago. They don’t know how or why but It’s not the weirdest thing they’ve seen so it’s pretty easy to believe.
But they can’t just leave this toddler with the powers of a god to stumble around and potentially hurt someone by accident, nor go down the wrong path and become a villain. So of course they decide to ‘subtly’ guide him without alerting him to the fact they’re onto him.
They introduce themselves but instead of inviting him to the league they pop by every once in a while to ‘subtly’ teach him about responsibility and power, but also about love and humanity. They try to teach him to enjoy life and that he doesn’t have to act like an adult around them, instead encouraging him to enjoy his childhood even if it’s not an ordinary one.
(Too bad the Justice League suck at subtlety.)
Billy is certain they somehow found out he’s a kid before they even met him, probably because of Batman’s freaky know-it-all powers, but he isn’t very worried as they seem nice and don’t treat him like he’s dumb or fragile. They respect him as a hero despite his age so he lets himself act like a kid around them after a while.
When he gets comfortable enough to detransform Billy thinks that’s his identity reveal. The league thinks that he magicked himself a body that’s more of a representation of his true self and fits his developmental age better, possibly as a way to blend in with humans and experience what it’s like to be a normal child. Good for him!
Basically Billy gets a bunch of super powered parents and the Justice League get a newborn man that they think they’re raising from scratch lol

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you
#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what#allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of#the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than#to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do#im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt#take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was#mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their#mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that#explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain#direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in#arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to#engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out#theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive#a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked#picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing#sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example#for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war#is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old#wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for#steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with#especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can#look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never#treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time#but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made#feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them#accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me#yapping#diary

Ngl definitely thinking back to the cartoon-making chapter now we know that Twilight doesn't realise studying/pursuit of knowledge can be fun. No wonder the cartoon he made sucked. He was approaching it purely from the educational angle with zero idea of the entertainment aspect that makes edutainment programming effective.
It's not that he was really bad at writing the fun parts. He plain didn't realise there were meant to be any in the first place for it to work.
Copying the aesthetics with no understanding of what was underneath.
#like yeah you could tell the first time around he had all his priorities wrong but with the added context from the latest chapters#you realise just how ridiculously off base he was#spy x family#sxf manga spoilers#anyway something about how he's tried to adapt his teachings for anya to some extent but a mix of anya's upbringing + his own has stymied#this. anya doesn't do well with 'traditional' study methods + has associations with those but also loid thinks what worked for him could#work for her. and he's (as he spells out) learnt purely for survival. it's a very different situation + anya doesn't /have/ to.#but loid has tried. yuri has tried. both with varying levels of success for all their missing info on anya. until finally siggy's approach.#sth sth community to raise a child but also different teaching styles but also being willing to meet on anya's level.#making positive associations with learning rather than the negative ones everyone else has

#Ahsoka Spoilers#Anakin Skywalker#Darth Vader#Ahsoka Tano#I LOVE this#I was so wrong on my theories#but I LOVE this#the way he combines Anakin and Vader's fighting styles#and the fact that it's so very very Anakin in his teaching method#there's no soft handed approach for him#there's only sticking her in the middle of a life or death scenario that won't ACTUALLY get her killed#to make sure she doesn't die when it comes down to it#to force her to fight like she is going to die#to choose to live#and the fact that he's not just magically back to pre-Vader Anakin in his afterlife is... not what I would have thought but it fits so well#pieces of Vader will always be with him#but Anakin is in control here#I think he's a whole lot more balanced in death than he ever was in life#I have so many thoughts and feelings#there may be a mini meta incoming tomorrow after I've had time to sleep on it

I just feel like you’ll pick up what Im putting down…when Romania’s British Adrian Brody was talking to Louis in season 2x1 like about hearing English for the first time in a so long and Emilia was like hey what do I talk and he was like “you, darling, talk broken English… taught by an Englishman too enamored with his student to do the job properly” I’m just thinking thoughts, parallel ones if you will, a certain vampire being ~too enamored~ with his student to teach him vampire etiquette (or u know Survival ahahha) properly… like boy not only did he not warn you about the sun day One, didn’t say a PEEP about flying, but he didn’t tell you how to guard your thoughts from other vampires he didn’t tell you about how you’re supposed to approach a coven in a new city, and HE. B4 I actually watched stories and was just reading the events on the god forsaken fandom wiki I was pronouncing emu/nene as eemu/neenee in my head… I could say “I don’t know Japanese” as a reason but English also favors the [e] pronunciation of “e” vs [i] (i.e bed vs see) in situations like this. My excuse for emu is the bird but idk what happened with nene. I think im just stupid. Muscle memory phonics failed me. Child left behind. Girl you know how words like emulsify and never/vender are pronounced.

i think the thing that bothers me about a lot of modern kidlit is how completely and totally lacking in nuance it is.
there is so much emphasis put on the message that the whole story winds up completely lacking in any real content or context to help the message sink in more organically. so while we do end up teaching kids a good message, it’s only surface deep, there’s no real understanding there just dumbed down easy to repeat buzzwords.
it’s really frustrating because there’s no way that’s at all sustainable, that’s not actual teaching there’s no development occurring because kids are just being spoon-fed ideas rather than reading a story and being allowed to explore its meaning for themselves.
#this is just a take completely lacking in any genuine research just more so based on my own observation#i have no problem with teaching kids young about social issues and morals and whatever but the way it’s approached today just feels#so impersonal and incorrect for what is actually good for a developing brain#rogar speaks
