Frat Boys & Parties ˙⟡ — A tutorial. ⋆⭒˚｡⋆ "How do I write a Frat Party?"

Ok, so as a luigi girlie, I want you guys to understand how to write our frat boy correctly !! Heres a lil walkthru of a frat party! The good, bad, and the gross lol

!DISCLAIMER! Not every frat is the same, but these are some common themes ive seen after about 4-5 crashes at diff brotherhoods lol

1. The Party

Ok, so this is a p self explanatory part. What is a frat party like, and what are some common misconceptions.

The most common one i see is that there’s some sort of “guest list” or that in order to get into a frat, you have to come with a brother. This isn’t true…at all. You will be LET IN for being a woman, as long as they find you ���attractive” (I did say the bad would be included). Frat parties are usually not invite only, and if they are it’s usually a brother thing. It’s actually harder to get into a frat as a man, as their main goal is as many chicks in the house AS POSSIBLE. If you come with ONE dude as ONE chick, you will separated if he’s not a brother lol. They won’t let him in.

If you do go with a man, please bring at least 3-4 friends. There needs to be a ratio lol.

Now how do you even get into a frat? Simple! Word of mouth, socializing, etc. if you have even one friend that’s a social butterfly, you will more than likely be aware of when different frats are hosting. There is usually NO invite system.

You can make a character that’s known to be social, you can be the social friend, etc etc. But honestly its not difficult if you have even a slightly small friend group.

2. What It’s like

You can always tell when someone hasn’t been to a frat by the way they talk about them. They are very VERY gross😭 You will be uncomfortable, the music is painfully loud and shitty, the tables are sticky, everyone smells sweaty, and you will get hit on and very potentially harassed. This is why it’s wiser to come with a male friend and 4-5 girlfriends. It’s not wise to be at a frat alone or just with one girl. Remember, the goal is ALWAYS going to be getting you drunk.

Write about the stickiness of the floor, how humid the room feels, the constant jostling of bodies, and the people around you. The party will feel less realistic and flat if there’s no small dialogue. For example, bumping into people.

“Excuse me, sorry!” A random girl squeaked, a drunken smile on her face as she squeezed past, her pupils the size of dinner plates.

Or if you’re feeling a little more frat-boy motivated, write a brief interaction with a brother.

“Hey…you havin’ fun? Yeah, my dude Jacob put this party together. He’s kind of an asshole, cuz he made me do all the planning, but it’s whatever.”

If your character is more reserved and tends not to drink, the night will be uncomfortable for them. One way I like to show discomfort or emphasize the grotesque is use “gross” imagery. Compare the actions and surroundings of your character to formally uncomfortable topics and ideas. Remember, imagery is a GREAT tool! Use it to make your advantage and make your readers skin crawl!!

“The crowd around you wiggled and thrashed like a hoard of hungry maggots attacking at a piece of rotten fruit, the bitter and stale taste of the cheap beer serving as their stimulant in the ghostly night.”

And on the topic of beer, it’s ALWAYS cheap. It’s free, so why are you complaining? Complaining about the drinks is usually a no no lmfao😭 make sure to include that in as well! I can’t give you any brands to go off of cuz it’s different at every party I’ve been to, but it’s usually NEVER any high quality shit. No Heineken, no Bud Lite, no Miller.

Cheap beer tastes literally like scorching expired fruit. It has the stalest taste ever. It’s DISGUSTING. I need to emphasize this so YOU can emphasize it in your writing. Alcohol burns! It hurts to chug, it hurts to sip, it’s “spicy”. This is another opportunity to use allusion and imagery in your writing. Talk about how it feels like flames going down, or how it bites at the flat part of your tongue and stings your nose.

Now, if your character is a little bit more open to drinking, slowly begin to go from “gross” imagery or themes of discomfort into fantasy and “wonderland-esque” imagery.

You’ll have more fun at a frat if you’re not sober, and that’s the tea. Monitor how much your character is drinking, and how she should be reacting in this state! I break it up into a couple of levels.

Buzzed.

Tipsy

Sloppy

Blackout

At buzzed, your character should slowly begin to get more social. She’s giggly, happy, and a little more relaxed but still very in tune with her surroundings. Spend more time in the party than you will in her mind. At this point, she’s thinking a little bit less, so try to cut a little bit of monologue.

At tipsy, she’s getting loose-lipped and courageous. Talking to strangers, dancing with a brother she’s never met, pursuing the goal she had originally come to the party for (if she has one), and a little bit less aware. She may lose her friends in the sea of people, but she’s overall still fine.

At SLOPPY, she’s becoming a bit of a nuisance. She’s getting loud, bumping into people a bit harder than usual, has no concept of personal space, and is a yap machine. She’s talking so much, and is stumbling and laughing at anything. Or, quite the contrary, she’s crying and sitting on the floor. Depends on who she is.

At Blackout, she’s slowing down. Her words are drastically slurred, so be prepared to ignore your grammarly. She’s stumbling through people, likely trying to find a place to sit down, the lights are way brighter than they actually are, and she might even throw up.

THISSS is how you write being drunk! It varies from person to person, because I am unfortunately a flirty and energetic drunk, but this is a baseline to work with.

The more your character drinks, the more their headspace should reflect this feeling. Some words like floaty, tingly, euphoric, giddy, etc should suffice. I even like to compare it to space because sometimes it do be feeling like zero gravity😔

Sure, the same could be asked from Tatum but she always had it in the back of her mind she could take on a killer if needed.. she'd watched enough tutorials on youtube, it didn't seem too hard. Normally Crue really didn't mind being alone, she always loved the moments where the Earth felt quiet, and she could have her mind to herself without all the other noise interrupting. But after the last few days, the thing they felt they craved most was the comfort of another person. With her toes tucked underneath the warm sand, she brought her knees up closer to her and lit a smoke.

On the exhale from the cigarette between her fingers, she spotted one other person who had the same idea in location as she did. Waving to them from across the beach, they used their hand to trying to get them to come join her. Calling out to them as they started to get closer, "Don't make me look like some loser alone at the beach, join me."

Okay! I finally got my controller back (though I’m gonna need to send it back for further fixes since it sometimes glitches out and starts drifting, if I shake it’ll go back to normal though)

I got to the part where the debt system starts, so here’s some commentary

I’m using someone else’s completed save so I could get Ludger’s NG+ voice

I forgot they had it set to Unknown difficulty and kept wondering why i kept wiping out on the tutorial fight lol

I got my ass kicked in the boss fight which. welp. F. sorry Ludger you failed bc you’re bad at fighting not bc you’re too good.

I think the choices the previous save chose have been marked so I’m torn between doing the “right” choices for Affinity vs seeing all the possible responses vs doing whatever I want in order to be “in-character” to what I want Ludger to be like

That said I initially chose not to kill Julius bc I’m a coward and I don’t think Ludger would kill Julius even if he looked like that and then. UHHHHH. wow.

I saved and reset and chose to kill him and F!Julius’ hand reaching out for him as he dies is A LOT and i desperately wanna gif it

But oh god buying a capture card is gonna cost me another like 60 dollars and I already spent way more fixing this controller than I wanted to so I might just go on YouTube and ask someone really nicely if I can use their footage

I also chose “fine” to letting F!Julius handle things and oh BOY

Okay so Nova is voiced by Cristina Vee which. Yes she voiced Velvet from Berseria but more importantly she’s using the exact same register she’s using for Marinette from ML and it is tripping me UP

I appreciate that they filtered her voice over the GHS tho, it adds authenticity

I think I already saw a post from Yume about this but it really sucks that the corporation/debt thing isn’t treated as. yknow. bad. because it feels like it’s a perfect corruption whatever plot

Unfortunately I’ve reached the point where having the game makes me nervous to actually play it bc it’ll end eventually

Also. I am so bad at combat. partially because I keep thinking in the Nintendo layout instead of Playstation. (I have literally NEVER owned a console that wasn’t Nintendo so you can imagine how badly this is going for me)

I am very gradually getting used to the English dub’s pronunciation of Ludger’s name… I refuse to change mine but I’m getting used to it.

Pearl Thief (Original Work)

I have a hilarious comic sans powerpoint on that here if anyone wants to look at that, but I shall re-intro it here as well haha. SO the story follows 3 boys, Tatum, Art, and Loch. Tatum and Loch are mermaids, more commonly known in the story as Syreni, and they live in the pacific ocean where everything is pretty fucked because of the pollution. The entire world underwater has fallen into a dystopian hellscape where if you eat or breathe too much pollution you go Marianas, aka “crazy as the ocean is deep”. The only thing that can stop it is if you eat food that’s been cleaned by pearls, and pearls are hella rare so lots of people are crazy and starving and that is pretty much the worst case scenario. Art is a human who is now helping Tatum and Loch try and find a safe place, if one even exists. 

Here to Help 

Tony Stark finds his intern Peter Parker starving and exhausted in the alleyway by Stark Tower and takes him in, soon learning that things weren't as safe at home as they seemed. Now Tony has to help Peter get back on his feet, though he quickly realizes, he won't be able to help Peter on his own...

Greek Brothers ˙⟡ — A tutorial. “How do I write Frat Boys?”

OK, A LOT OF PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANTED A PART 2. HERE U GO

!DISCLAIMER! Not all frats are the same, and no two people are the same. This is constructed based off of my experience with various types of brothers (and sisters) in Greek life.

Let’s go!

1. TYPES of Frat Boys

Ok, so just to start, to write frat boys in general you are automatically going to need to learn how to write borderline terrible behavior lol. There are many different kinds of Frat Boys, but the one that probably just popped into your head has blonde of brunette hair with a baseball cap, a beer in hand, and horrible manners. Probably a sleazeball, too.

We call those types of brothers Douchebags, or “DudeBros”

DudeBros are basically walking talking himbos. Sports, beer, money, hoes, sex, liquor, lie lie lie lie. Probably has a college bro accent, which TRACES BACK to a Valley Girl accent. Brush up on your Californian, cuz you can’t understand him with his mouth full of gum and his head CONSTANTLY tilted back.

These dudes are more than likely holding some sort of title at the frat. He’s probably VP, Recruitment chair, or house manager. Either way, you’ll encounter them a lot in Greek life. Reaaaallly lean into that whole exaggerated frat boy thing in your writing!! LEAN INTO IT! The stereotypes are very correct lol😭

9/10 he is probably pushing around a pledge, or having one run his errands. Some examples of how he would talk include…

“Yo, pledge, ca’mere? Get this dude some water, and then when he stops throwing up, kick him the fuck out.” ”He’s being a little bitch and there’s mad hoes around and it’s ruining the vibe, bro.” ”Yo, what’s up babes…oh yeah the bathrooms just over there…You’re Gracie’s sister, right? You guys do your makeup the same. Her makeup looks like shit.”

LEARN TO WRITE DISRESPECT!! they are so disrespectful to those they don’t find attractive and are so mean😭 He’s loud, unserious, a twinge misogynistic, and is likely to grab your ass at the party. The second kind of Frat boy, which is actually less talked about, is the Pushover. It’s exactly what it sounds like. He’s new, he’s learning to adjust to the frat, etc etc.

YOUR CHARACTER WILL HAVE MUCH BETTER LUCK COMMUNICATING WITH A PUSHOVER VS A DUDEBRO.

They don’t really get called by their name a lot lol😭 they’re often just referred to as “pledge” and lowkey are still adjusting to the party scene. He’s gonna be quieter, but will exercise his frat boy status when left alone. Literally will ONLY step into that attitude AFTER his brothers are gone.

I don’t think I need to give examples for this kind of dude, cuz he’s really just a quiet nodder.

However, this doesn’t exempt him from being a bad person. Because a pledge wants to earn respect from his brothers, they are going to make him do some INSANE shit. This is how hazing works, so now you know how to write hazing.

His brothers will make him say or do insane shit to girls, and he’s experiencing his first rush of frat power. Is actively forming into a proper frat boy, so try and highlight this by giving him a “softer” tone compared to his brothers. He’s not as loud as the DudeBro, and he kind of speaks with a mumble in his words. Probably has a really bad vocal fry going on too

The third Frat Boy, also the one Luigi falls into is the TechBro.

These guys lack one of two things; Social skills, or open-mindedness. Do not get into arguments w these men you will leave wanting to end it all.

The DudeBro’s right hand man, but not douchey and misogynistic. Is arguably the smartest person in the frat, but literally cannot stfu about his views and knowledge for five seconds. Borders on “scaring away the hoes” and “sexy smart man”

You can ALSO expect these types of men to be in positions of power. Usually a frat treasurer, philanthropy chair, or national advisor.

He’s contrastingly nice compared to most of his brothers but every now and again he will say something that raises a red flag in your mind before trying to re-explain himself better.

some examples of things they would say include…

”Hey girls. Henderson? Yeah no he went upstairs with Rachel. Can you go upstairs? No. Absolutely not.” ”What? Do we have any food? I’m not supposed to be giving you any but we have some Cheez-its in the top cabinet above the microwave.” ”*Lengthy rant about political views (usually libertarian.)*”

Now that that’s OUT THE WAYYY, let’s talk about what they do!

Frat boys actually don’t do much. They attend classes mostly, and every now and again they’ll host a rager. Most parties are genuinely open invite, as I said before, but brother-exclusive parties are literally just keg wars or chapter retreats.

Tense ˙⟡ — A tutorial.

”How do I write sexual tension?”

HI GUYSCH. Today we’re gonna talk about how to write tension and how it adds to your fics. Especially for specific troupes involving some sort of relationship evolvement.

Let’s go!

So, for starters , you will never be able to write what you want to write if you have no idea what it is that you’re writing.

What is sexual tension?

• Sexual tension is the unspoken feeling between two individuals that feels oddly intimate. This means that there is a noticeable shift in your conversations and how they progress with this person. No matter how they start, you will end up in an intimate conversation with this person.

So when trying to create tension between two characters, ask yourself a couple of things!!

• What is driving this feeling? How are their surroundings influencing this slow build of tension between the two?

• WHY are they flirting with each other? How did they get here? Are they joking, or are they serious?

• If a character is touchy or physically driven, what are their hands doing? What’s their body language saying?

I cannot stress this enough, sexual tension is the LAST thing you want to say in your writing. Never ever EVER directly state that there’s tension. Demonstrate it! Talk about their eye contact, maybe they’re a little closer than normal, etc etc. By saying it, you are causing the biggest immersion break ever. Show, don’t tell.

Now that you know what it is and what not to do, let’s talk about sexual tension in practice.

How / The buildup

• The best way to get familiar with tension is to go watch a movie. Some things you’ll see between characters with tension are as follows;

• Heavy eye contact. Aggressive/Persistent flirting from both parties. Excessive touching. MIRRORING THE OTHERS BODY LANGUAGE!! There is science behind this, USE IT! Inappropriate joking, and if you’re feeling saucy, groping.

A man tends to flirt via jokes and Schrödinger’s flirting; it’s only a joke if you take it as a joke, though he’s usually not joking. For example

“You said you wanted me to re-paint your walls right? I can paint your walls real good…nah, let me stop…”

Let’s say character B is enjoying a snack such as a banana or popsicle. Character A is going to make a comment on what they’re doing, because it’s having an effect on them regardless.

“If you wanted a long, hard, and sweet popsicle you could’ve just asked me…” he pouted with a mischievous glint in his hazy eyes.

Remember, it’s only a joke if character B takes it as a joke! If she playfully scolds, or doesn’t respond in a flirtatious manner back, he will withdraw.

Now women tend to be more silent in the flirting field. We tend to build tension through actions versus words, and this will show in our body language. Some examples of flirty actions include…

Lip biting, eye contact, prolonged touch, “playfully dismissive” smiles, faux shock, overall fueling the current fire between both characters.

Eyebrows are one of the most expressive parts of the face, and it kills me when I see nobody write about them. They are literally some of the biggest tone indicators in body language, and give away most of the things we’re feeling. When you feel tension, you’re more likely to raise a brow, pinch them together, or raise them condescendingly.

Think about the last time you fake flirted with someone, or had a weirdly sexual moment with someone that wasn’t intended to be sexual. What happened? For me, before I started dating my ex-boyfriend we went through a heavy back-and-forth moment where we just continuously dropped innuendo after innuendo. Humans WANT to make their emotions known, and they tend to take over in heated moments. Let the emotions pilot your character!

• Innuendo’s are literally key. Your characters in a bad mood and giving attitude? That’s ok, Character A’s already telling them if they dont fix their attitude, he will! Characters are alone and working on a project together? Great! Have one character get really close to the other and speak quietly. Literally just drop as many sex jokes as you can! Flirting does not always equal flattery.

Flirting is gross, especially when the feeling is mutual because again, humans want to express themselves! We are such expressive beings and we want everyone to know what we want! We want our feelings to be validated so we don’t feel crazy for feeling them.

Touch is another thing. Touch arguably builds more tension than words ever could, because every touch just feels 100x more powerful.

Examples;

Pulling a character by the belt, a hand over the other’s neck jokingly, looking down at someone from behind/towering over the other person, tracing the other’s veins or tattoos, touching their hair, etc.

Whatever you do!!

i usually use a psd for asks to make them look nice and transparent and number them but tbh it’s just keeping me from answering asks quickly, having to shift layers around and stuff. so this is me literally cutting and pasting the text of some asks into a text post instead, sry.

if i did not answer yr thing here i lost/never got the ask, need a separate post to answer it (community lot anon), or worked myself into an anxious lather when i did not have an immediate response at the ready and fled into the woods to hide inside an old damp log and mutate slowly into a creature composed entirely of moss.

1) hey friend i think i can actually help with this one! slig did my poor lover for momma lisa, and has a few of my other skins linked to different body meshes in this tag here. @asimplevampire​ also did rehash for androgyny. those are the two i know off the top of my head but if anyone else knows any others pls reply to this post!

i don’t personally make showerproof skintones for body meshes because i a) am lazy and b) don’t usually take pics of my sims in the shower or naked in general so the occasional floating head just gives me a lil chortle when it does happen.

2) yis, it is the second to last one in this post by @magpieplayssims​ with a bunch of face masks piled on.

3) i use a personal edit of gunmod’s 3.1 A camera which alters the, like, central pivot axis so i can swing the camera underground into any basements i might be using. as a result, whenever i load the lot, it starts me off zoomed inside the floor, you just gotta zoom out with the scroll wheel to get above ground and it works normally from there. i haven’t figured out how to mitigate this while still being able to access underground rooms. which is why my edit never got its own post, but i did share it here.

4) nah, not really. i mean i have an outdated one at the back of my catalogue but my face is boring to me cuz i see it every day n stuff & i’m less and less interested in making human features now that custom sliders have let me go absolutely mad with power.

5) ye sorry i put that on my to-do list and promptly forgot about it cuz my brain seems to think that putting something on a list means it’s done forever now!!!! but now it’s actually done and i’m fixing the other links too.

6) yr phone is a craven liar and i will not stand for this libel. earlier today i was genuinely bewildered by a discussion about channing tatum cuz i thought his name was tatum channing. i sat there for minutes, convinced that there were two guys in hollywood one named channing tatum and the other named tatum channing and wondering if that ever got confusing for them.

7) u would be surprised, friend! my memory is a lawless wasteland but i do not end up chatting back and forth w/ many ppl b/c i am a seething pit of social anxiety. if we talked, like, more than twice, i probs remember u!

8) omg i was about to be like “nah i never made nosemasks for those” but that is a fucking lie of the highest caliber, i totally did make one (1) set and then forgot entirely about it. i will post them with the next batch of bodyshop content which should be Shortly (and if i don’t just yell @ me and i’ll just lazily put them on sfs and link them in a reply).

This was the first time I had watched Hail! Caesar, and I was not disappointed. I loved the use of genre conventions to convey character. The clever use of genre helps establish characters but also conveys narrative elements. The satirical approach to issues of the 1950s really makes this film an enjoyable timepiece which reflects on the scandals of Old Hollywood. From the subplot of secret communists, to the loopholes of star contracts, to the celebrity status stars began to have; the Coen brothers show a clear knowledge and interest in the strange evolution of the film industry. 

I enjoyed the readings this week as it showed many different ideas surrounding the star system. It was interesting to read about the differences in the star system for different genders. I already knew that most industries are unfair for women, however, I learnt more about the theoretical details of its unfairness. Laura Mulvey’s psychoanalytic insight into the male gaze was especially interesting. Her idea around scopophilia and how most female characters in classical cinema are objects to be viewed by male audiences. I was nervous for the first lecture as I was unsure of how well I would engage with it. Fortunately, the pre-recorded lecture was extremely thought-provoking and kept me engrossed the entire time. I was happy that Dr Artt mentioned the Netflix series Hollywood as I was reminded of it whilst watching Hail! Caesar, each respectively shows an in-depth understanding of the industry whilst highlighting the deep-rooted issues it had and still have today. Singing in the Rain is such a feelgood movie, seeing this clip really brightened my day, and I may have ended up watching the entire film. I think it highlights perfectly the enigma of the star, how we as an audience will never really know the private lives of actors, and yet as fans, we are still infatuated with them. It also conveys, similarly to Hail! Caesar, how the industry will change a star’s image to fit an American ideal. This also refers back to the idea of each star being a polysemy of ideologies which we subconsciously acknowledge as audiences.

The tutorial was a great way to consolidate my learning, as well as hear my peers’ opinions.
