Note
I doubt that anybody on either crew intended this but in hindsight Fitzherbert is actually foreshadowing that Eugene was a prince all along. Cause it roughly means “illegitimate son of King Herbert.”
Well, not necessarily King Herbert, but "noble-born illegitimate Son of Herbert." (Noble-born doesn't necessarily mean "born to a king", just that the father was nobility.)
And yes, this is something that I've known since approximately 2011. A lot of the Tangled fandom had a long-standing headcanon that he was, indeed, noble-born because of his name, but as the bastard son, he was unable to ever inherit wealth or title.
And the series crew had nothing to do with his name. XD He was already named that when the series was in development. Movie crew, yeah, I can absolutely believe that it wasn't intentional, and it was certainly never confirmed and possibly never even commented on. I don't claim to know every interview that's ever been had with anyone on the movie crew.

Obsessed with the POV choice in Imperial Radch as well, both because Leckie does some really wild stuff with how expansive the strict first-person is able to become due to the worldbuilding and who her narrator is, and because it's SO entangled with the central thematic concepts of identity. In the first book flashbacks when the narrator is still a warship, "I" can encompass so many things, and sometimes explicitly refers to different facets in the narration--is "I" Justice of Toren, or One Esk, or a specific segment, or Breq narrating from twenty years in the future? "I" isn't simple, isn't unified, and while this is most literal and obvious with Breq/One Esk/Justice of Toren and Anaander Mianaai's split factions it's true constantly throughout the work at every level of scope. Individual characters struggle with internal conflicts and hit their breaking points--what is it that makes someone decide they have to disobey orders and make a stand or they won't be themself anymore? How do you know who you are if you've been forcibly changed (Tisarwat) or if the world you knew has moved on and become unrecognizable (Seivarden)? How does a character on a colonized world navigate the split identity that comes from the pressure to assimilate to the dominant culture? And then there's the Radch writ large, all the Radchaai so deeply invested in the idea that there is only one true concept of Radchaai society, of civilization, but of course there isn't! It changes based on location and over time, and Breq muses that the Radchaai empire would be largely unrecognizable to the isolated sphere of the Radch itself. In these books, even if you aren't the last remnant of a destroyed spaceship and its legion of bodies, "I" is such a complicated concept and the narrative never lets you forget it.

finally got around to making a character bio for 💐 Miss A. 💐 as rocky insists on calling her,
⬇️ big picture and what it was heavily based on under the cut ⬇️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if i'm correct, the cover is originally from 1933, but it suited her too well and i love J. C. Leyendecker's work on The Saturday Evening Post too much to not have used it lmao

Conversation
Cassandra: Was there ever a moment when you guys first came up with the genius plan to go through the trials of the seven kingdoms, that any of you said 'hey, ya' know, this plan might backfire?'
Varian: ...
Cassandra: No. That never occurs to you. Because you guys are jerks, and you never learn from your mistakes. And that's why everyone in all the seven kingdoms thinks you guys are assholes.
Yong: That's not true! People in the kingdoms like us! Don't they?
Hugo: Yeah dude, people in the kingdoms totally like us, Cass is just being a dick because we're having a tough time right now.
Cassandra: I'M being a dick? You guys took my money, got me arrested and sent to the dark kingdom with no way home except to take down the kingdom of Ingvarr, and I'M being a dick?
Nuru: Ugh, there's just no talking to her!
Varian: Alright fine Cass! When we get back home, I'll get you your money back and we'll never talk to you again, how's that?
Cassandra: That would be great, thank you.

I read "The Princess, the Pirate and the Prosecutor" today.
With no exaggerations, irony or jokes, it was absolutely the best read of my life. Extremely good. Will read again (many, many, many times), which is exactly why I had to immediately draw something about it. I'm probably gonna refine it...

I have no idea if Lady Caine looks like this in the story, but it is what I envisioned her to look like. I really love her, guys.
I hope you like it like I loved your story, @twotangledsisters !!

i think one of the most fun quotes i ever made up was "all the world's a stage, and we're just the tangled wires running underneath it" which sounds poetic, but means nothing, but actually does have meaning if you think about it?

If you asked me, all credit should go to Shane Prigmore instead of Chris manchild Sonneburg.

Tangled Crew Appreciation Week: Shane Prigmore
Not enough is said about this unsung hero of Tangled: the Series. Shane Prigmore was there at the beginning, helping to design and develop this story, turning these empty three years “between the kisses” into a story that even Roy Conli could approve of.
And then Shane was promoted to Vice President of Creative Affairs for Walt Disney Television Animation, which is why we actually don’t hear about him in conjunction with TTS. He is credited as creator, developer and writer for Tangled: Before Ever After and Tangled: the Series.
I had the honor to randomly run into him at D23 Expo, and I can say that he is friendly, humble, warm and open. And when @forever-tangledup and I were able to give him a Tangled Fandom Resurrection button, he was extremely delighted and grateful to receive it.
As well as being a writer, Shane is an incredible artist who has worked both as a character designer and animator, working on such titles as How to Train Your Dragon, Rise of the Guardians, The LEGO Movie, and Coraline, among many others.

see the thing about ofmd is that i love me a good long rambling meta post, but i have kind of a hard time making them for this show because i went into it knowing i'm not really the target audience — i'm queer but in a romance-indifferent aroace way and while i occasionally enjoy comedies, they're not my preferred genre — and so most of the time when i start analyzing the writing or the character arcs or whatever my conclusion is that i can't reliably tell what was or wasn't a good narrative choice because i, like season 1 izzy hands, would have preferred ofmd if it was in a different genre. (which isn't to say it should have been in a different genre, just that i'm not the best at assessing comedies on their own terms)

So funny! Luffy gets what he wants somehow, his friends totally enable him, and poor Law is very long suffering. Kind of like in canon! 😂
