Questioner: Was Tanavast a dragon?
Brandon Sanderson: Tanavast was not, but that's an excellent question. There are some other dragons out there. If you keep asking, you might get some yeses; but this is a no.

Humans and singers
Tanavast/Honor changed camps
One thing that has never sat right with me, is that Honor/Tanavast changed his underlings.
Originally, it were the human beings that brought Odium with them and the singers were the ones that depended on Honor.
And then I guess, the human beings were not quite satisfied with their land and so they started their conquest, annihilated the singers that had been originally as kind as give them land...to the mere foreigners.
As shocking as this revelation was...it did not really change much...did it?
The present conflict - Humanity craving for war
Even the present conflict broke out, because Gavilar desired eternal life and power...and for Dalinar not even the lives of the elders were a good enough compensation for the murder of his brother.
The listeners had not desired war, it had been the human beings.
Heck, even Eshonai and the present elders had still not desired war, after 5 years of war.
The Fused
From the tiny information we have about the fused it does seem that many of them were rulers/leaders...
So did a part of them go to odium, after the human beings occupied their lands and slaughtered them, similaririly like the elders sacrificed themselves?
Or did Odium feel that the oppressed were so much angered out of their mind, that they were the better foiles he could use?
But I am still a little bit baffled about Honor changing sides...I mean, he knew that the human beings apparantly slaughtered and enslaved the very people who had welcomed them previously...
Them being full of hate is actually so reasonable and understandable that I am still baffled...and the honor of Honor obviously allowed him to switch sides?

Wait so in Tress, it confirms that when a dragon dies, their body leaves behind dragonsteel. Cultivation's vessel is a dragon and her name is "Koravellium Avast." If having "avast" in your name means that you're a dragon and Tanavast is also a dragon, what happened to his dragonsteel?

Questioner
Can holders of Shards give them up voluntarily? If so, what would happen?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes, a Vessel for a Shard of Adonalsium can give up their power if they wish.
As for what would happen...well, there are some variables in there. Kind of like the variables in what happens to a bucket of water if you dump it out. Depends on where it falls, how strong the wind is, what the air is like.
Power dropped like this, if left alone, could end up Splintering and turning into something like spren/seons. It could become something more like the Stormfather--a large, self-aware entity. It could become something like the Dor or many of the Unmade--something proto-aware, but not truly an individual. There are other possibilities as well, depending on lots of factors. (Are sapient beings involved? what is being done with the power--is it concentrated in the Spiritual Realm as normal, or is it being pushed somewhere else?) FAQFriday 2017 (June 9, 2017)

Slightly out there theory but I've seen no one else make it and wanna throw it out there. Kaladin is going to become Honor.
It's just a very random hunch I've had the past few days but it makes so much sense to me acknowledging the right details.
Now I dont know if theres a WOB debunking it but as far as I know theres no reason Dalinar couldnt use Bondsmith powers to reforge a shard. Like Honor still exists in Splinters such as honorspren and the Stormfather, so it seems possible to reforge
But even then, why Kaladin? I think its been heavily alluded to across the past few books. Such as the Stormfather consistently calling Kaladin 'Child of Tanavast' and others as 'Child of Honor' Sanderson has said before that it is an important distinction but didnt specify why so my only conclusion is Kaladin being Tanavasts successor in becoming Honor.
Secondly, the Death Rattle from Way of Kings, stating "He must pick it up, the fallen title! The tower, the crown, and the spear!"
This feels so overtly about Kaladin, especially with rhythm of war context. The tower is Urithiru, and Kaladin fighting back the singers and helping free them, the spear is the most obvious and could reference either his decision to join Amarams army in the first place or his decision to train Bridge Four but I think it overall represents his consistency to go back to the fight and do what he must. The fallen title, can be interpreted as Honor itself and how he must carry it on.
The crown is slightly more cryptic and nothing we can currently point to but, if Dalinar reforges the Oathpact with Kaladin as a Herald, the crown title makes sense since Jezrien, the former Windrunner herald was caller KING of the Heralds, and so he also potentially becomes the Windrunner Herald before becoming Honor itself.
And thats like... it.
Not a lot of evidence but my god this feels possible

Honor dying + Information about Ashyn + Centuries of war fatigue + they did a Cosmic Crime to Ba-Ado-Mishram + no Bondsmith except the Sibling
Im dying to know what caused the Recreance. It must have been some horrible betrayal right? If it would cause even the current Radiants to abandon their oaths??
