September 28, 2024 - Rusty Flowerpiercer (Diglossa sittoides) These flowerpiercers are found at the edges of mountain forests, as well as in scrub and cultivated areas in parts of Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. They feed on nectar and small insects, using their distinctively shaped bills to pierce the bases of flowers. Though little is known about their breeding behavior, they likely build deep cup-shaped nests.
