She huffed, watching with a pout as Styx happily fussed around him, taking in his smell, adoring the attention. "Okay be honest, did you only come here for her?" Narrowed eyes, she soon relents into a soft eye roll, grabbing a pack of chips before slouching back. "I'm starting to feel a little neglected. You know, just because I don't have paws and fur doesn't mean I'm not super cute and cuddly too."

Ender was certainly doing his homework– even off the clock, he was maintaining a low profile while scoping out the community he now found himself in. He was dedicated, to say the least, but that was mostly because he was in quite a goddamn hurry to finish the task at hand here and put as many miles between him and Isra Sakarya as he possibly could. So needless to say, he was putting in hours well beyond what the badge required of him, and that morning, he found himself wandering up to the firehouse, coffee in hand. Part of what made the ATF so effective was their ability to hone in on those closest to their targets. When it came to the Sons of Silence, was there anyone closer than the president’s lover? Wasn’t she, for all intents and purposes, a gatekeeper to their ugliest secrets? In his mind, it seemed reasonable enough, hence why he was approaching the neat table and booth set up outside the firehouse, a warm, welcoming smile on his face. “Günaydın,” he called out in their mother tongue as he raised a hand and gave a little wave. He felt secure enough making it known that he knew her heritage because sure, he could say he knew that little detail about her because he’d read it in the paper, like any other normal citizen in Tonopah Valley would have. But the truth? Whatever Ender knew about Taliah Tezel was solely because her face was plastered on a wall at the precinct, right next to the picture of the man he intended to lock away until he rotted. Either way, it wasn’t a stretch at all for him to speak Turkish to her, and so he kept going as he approached, “Nasılsın?” Shifting his cup of coffee to his left hand, he extended his right in greeting, “Ender,” he introduced, flashing a small smile, “The work never stops, huh?” Ender supplied, gesturing at the stand behind her. His agenda against the Sons aside, he really was genuine in saying that that fire department here went above and beyond for their community. Ender could respect that, but it failed to stretch much far beyond that, all things considered.

He’d gotten pretty used to his new normal morning routine. As if on cue, he’d wake up well before the sun did, and rather than toss and turn and risk waking Taliah, he’d get up and mosey into the kitchen to put a fresh pot of coffee on. It was the least he could do if he couldn’t lay still, right? From that point on, he’d watch the sunrise and marvel at it, all the while knowing that something far more beautiful was just moments away. And when she did wake and meander into the kitchen, he’d have a warm cup of coffee waiting for her– and a kiss, if he was lucky enough to get one at that dreadful hour.

This morning was no different from most and by the time Cole walked Taliah out, though it was a short distance from the door to her car, he still wrapped his arm around her as they walked, fingers giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. Pausing beside her car, he tugged the driver’s side door open, then turned to her, his thumbs instantly finding her belt loops and hauling her closer to him, savoring those last handful of moments together before she had to drive away. “Be safe today, a’right?” Once she was close enough for his liking, he slid his hands up her body, following every perfect curve until he could gently cup the sides of her face. Tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear, he offered up a small smile, taking that moment just to breathe her in and memorize every detail of her. With the sort of job she had, he was acutely aware of how tomorrow wasn’t promised, and so every morning, much like he was doing now, Cole took those extra few seconds for all that they were worth. Leaning in, he tipped his head to the side, catching her lips in a lingering kiss. “I love you, T,” he murmured against her lips, closing that scant bit of distance for another kiss until–

It sounded like a soft mew, and Cole couldn’t help but skid to a stop, his lips hovering just above Taliah’s. “Wait–” he breathed, leaning back only a fraction and darting a look off to the side, eyes narrowed as if he was just waiting to hear the sound again, “Tell me ya heard that too?”
