TWS gang, please, hear me out.

So, I still got wingfeathers in the brain (I'm starting to think I may never get rid of it...) and one of my favorite fairytales has always been Beauty And The Beast.

Since exams week has been draining me, why not come up with another thing to daydream about?

I present you... The-Wingfeather-Saga-Beauty-And- The-Beast AU!

The Jewels And The Beast for short.

Or Jewels and The Cloven.

Or Jewels and The Birdman.

You'll see.... Just bear with me.

I'm debating in whetever Esben or Artham should be the "beast". In one hand, it would make sense for it to be Esben since he's all bear-like but I would also like it to be Artham since we have more information about him and what he's like. But either way, the "Beauty" is none other than our favorite jewels, Janner, Kalmar and Leeli.

Here's the idea: so, the kids still live with Podo and Nia in Glipwood. However, in the Glipwood forest, there's an abandoned castle. (Bonus points if Artham is the "beast" cause then it could be Peet's castle only bigger and creepier) Podo goes on a trip for whatever reason, and ends up being taken by the oh-so-horrible beast of Glipwood. Danny, the horse, comes back to the Igiby cottage where Nia and the kids get nerve struck when they find the horse without its rider. Nia leaves to get help to find Podo leaving the kids alone, and one thing leads to another, they decided to go to the forest by themselves to rescue their grandpa because main characters moment. There, they meet the "beast", and bargain to stay as prisioners in Podo's place. Podo obviously tries to fight, but ends up having to flee, leaving the kids as captives in the castle.

The "talking objects" are the Glipwooders, plus a few other characters from other regions. We got Oskar, who's a book, (are you surprised) and basically takes the role of Cogsworth. We also got Addie and Joe, Maraly, Sara, Thron, Rudric and others. (No, I haven't thought of what objects they would all be, sorry. You can suggest in the comments tho!) As the story goes by, it focuses mainly on the kids bonding with either beast! Esben or beast! Artham, and teaching about kindness and stuff. The "rose" would be a set of three actual jewels, that may or may not represent the kids themselves. Meanwhile Gnag, will be the one to take the role as Gaston. Unlike in TWS, Gnag will pretend to be the good guy and the whole town loves him, (like Gaston and the villagers) so when Nia and Podo announce that the kids have been captured by a beast, he will try to play the hero and claiming he will "rescue them". However, what Nia Podo and the Glipwooders don't know, is that Gnag is the one who helped to turn Esben or Artham into a beast in the first place, along with the Stone Keepers (who take the role of the Enchantress). Gnag knows that Janner, Tink and Leeli are the Jewels Of Anniera, and has only been waiting for the right moment to strike, to capture them and begin his plan on taking over Skree, the Hollows, and the lost Shining Isle, which everyone believes to only be a legend.

Anyways that's all I got for now.

Maybe I'll write a small fic or something on that in the future...

"One Half of a Whole" Meta

One Half of a Whole is a fic that really sent the hamsters in my head spinning. Before I even started writing it, I had theories coming out my ears about how ORV's world would work with this setting. All the changes to canon I ended up making, I made for a reason.

And since I’ve had readers on other fics tell me that what I wrote sometimes helped them understand ORV and its characters better, I figured I could expand a bit on the meta behind this one!

I’m going to explain from the point of view of somebody who’s finished the novel, so obviously

SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE ORV NOVEL

Chapter 1

Kim Namwoon

One of the big differences in chapter 1 is that Kim Dokja ends up sparing Kim Namwoon. You might remember that Kim Dokja, in one of those rare moments of honesty that come to him in the late novel, explains at some point why he hates Kim Namwoon so much.

"When I was young, I really hated you." When I was still absorbed in reading the 'Ways of Survival', Kim Namwoon was the only character that I couldn't sympathise with. If every person appearing in that novel was my hyung, my father, my dongsaeng, and my noona, then… …Then, the character 'Kim Namwoon' was the cautionary tale for me. […] When I thought about it, the reason why I hated Kim Namwoon was pretty simple in nature. "Yoo Joonghyuk always took you in as his companion." Out of everyone from the 'Ways of Survival', Kim Namwoon most closely resembled me. "Even though he knew that you are an evil bastard, even though he knew that you did evil things… Even then, he took you in." If I was him, how would I have turned out? — Chapter 480

Kim Dokja hated Kim Namwoon because he saw himself in him. He asked tls123 multiple times whether Yoo Joonghyuk could, pretty please, not make Kim Namwoon his companion in this round; or the next; or really, in every round, please just skip that guy Author-nim!

So when ORV started, Kim Dokja jumped at the chance to do away with a character he had always deemed evil, and who forced him to confront some pretty dark things about himself.

But in One Half of a Whole, Kim Dokja’s opinion on Kim Namwoon is naturally different, because while he still dislikes the way Kim Namwoon acts and he still feels ill at ease with the similarities between them… Kim Namwoon is not filling a space where young Kim Dokja was trying to project himself. Because young Kim Dokja could always see a space for himself by Yoo Joonghyuk’s side, and that was the space reserved for Yoo Joonghyuk’s soulmate.

If anything, I expect young Kim Dokja would have vehemently hated every character who tried to pass themselves as Yoo Joonghyuk’s soulmate (at least until their deception was revealed and he could bask in the violent vengeance Yoo Joonghyuk enacted on them 😏).

But as for Kim Namwoon, in OHoaW, Kim Dokja didn’t have as much resentment for him, and he also cared far more about making a good first impression on Yoo Joonghyuk, and so Kim Namwoon lived.

Weaver of the Twin Threads of Fate

OK, so. Weaver of the Twin Threads of Fate is a problem. For me, at least. 😭

I knew heading in that I would need to flesh out a bit the soulmate setting, because I always flesh them out. I find it’s not much fun for me to write a soulmate AU where the canon worldbuilding doesn’t change at all.

So Yoo Joonghyuk’s world would naturally have mythology pertaining to soulmates, and constellations derived from that mythology seemed a given. I only needed one constellation to make my point, and I didn’t really need to give her a name outside of her moniker or to dig into her backstory, since she was just a placeholder. Having her be friendly with Uriel seemed like a nice humorous touch. So far, so good.

The problem came when I dug too far into the meta. Because ORV is, at heart, a story that asks you to think about stories, about their relationship to us, about the bonds between writer and reader and character.

And so I made the mistake of asking myself: who is Weaver of the Twin Threads of Fate to ORV? And the answer is: the entity who added soulmates to TWSA.

Me. Weaver of the Twin Threads of Fate is me.

And I want to make one thing clear, here: I’ve been writing fanfictions for 20 years. In that time, I have never written a self-insert. Never even had the temptation.

Figures that ORV would be the fandom to make me do it without even realizing. 🤣

Abyssal Black Flame Dragon

Yep, he ended up not offering to sponsor Kim Dokja in this fic since Kim Namwoon is still around and is, after all, at least 10% more chuuni than Kim Dokja. At least.

Now, constellations can technically have more than one incarnation in ORV, but from what I understand it dilutes the power a bit. It's hard to tell since it's not much shown on-screen in the novel. I should do some research on that before I decide what to do about Han Sooyoung... (If anybody can remember more, feel free to tell me! I'd also welcome any information on this subject that'd come from the ongoing side story, but keep it as vague as possible because I still haven't started it.)

Secretive Plotter

I don’t think I need to explain why Secretive Plotter is throwing wayyy more money around in OHoaW… but I want us all to take one more moment to contemplate the utter chaos that is N’Gai’s Forest right now. ♥

DAEDRIC PRINCES OF THE SKYRIM AU

DAYS OF WORK COMPLETED!!! Have some short descriptions of each Prince - and a quick tidbit - all Princes can assume a feline form, but some choose not to.

Hircine is the Hunt and the Prey, the fear and terror of being pursued, and the thrill and joy of pursuit. He is teeth in the bowels and blood on the tongue. The Father of werewolves is based on a wolf and a stag.

Azura is Sun and Moon, Day to Night, and all transitory periods therein. Crowned with roses of her own flesh, and touched with stars. The beloved of Dunmer and Khajit is based on a maned lioness.

Peryite is pestilence and plague, illness and crawling death, and all else is mystery. He once appeared as a dragon, but such a form is beyond him in the lands of Skyrim. In these current times, he appears as a Skeever, covered in boils and growths.

Clavicus Vile is bargain and trickery, treachery and lies. But Clavicus Vile is warning and wariness, care and concern. Two faced and two headed, it is said that he was once one headed, but a mistake left him attached to another - but none know which is which.

Hermaeus Mora is knowledge and knowing, memory and forgetting, and things better never known. A keeper of secrets, and a bringer of madness, but a true neutral Prince. He is known for his many eyes and tentacles.

Mephala is lies, murder, and the doings of the night. They weave a web of seduction and death, but to what end only they know. The spiny-backed orb weaver/black widow is also known as the Androgyne, a patron of those who see gender differently.

Molag Bal is the King of Strife, of Schemes, and Harvester of Souls. He desires nothing more than to have all mortal souls in his cold clutches. The komodo dragon based Prince is the Father of Vampires.

Boethia is he who deceives and she who is treacherous. The cobraconstrictor would love nothing more than to overthrow authority, but can be settled by great tournaments in his name. She is also patron to those who change gender as a serpent sheds their skin.

Ithelia is the Forgotten Prince of Paths, found only in old scripts held by Hermaeus Mora. He claims she would have destroyed and rewritten the world to something horrible, but can the Prince of Memory be trusted when all his knowledge would have been made moot?

Jyggalag is the Lord of Order, unrelenting and mysterious. Little is known of this Prince, other than his hate of Sheogorath...

Malacath is Lord of the ostracized, bringer of vengeance, and ultimate Chieftan to all Orcs. Despite his bloodthirsty nature, he loves and cherishes his mortal people, once fathering a child with an orc. Sadly, that tale is a tragedy, but to this day Malacath wears the warpainted paw print of his son.

Meridia is the burning glory of the sun, bringing life and light upon the world, but also scorching rays upon her enemies. As one of the most morally righteous Princes, many favor her and her hatred of the undead. However, her strange form and lack of a volume control can be offputting at times.

Namira is the Lord of cannibals and corruption, and Mother to all sorts of scuttling creatures. She delights in darkness and sundry, and blesses her followers with her wicked appetite.

Nocturnal is the shielding dark of the night, and the hidden shadow. She is forgotten faces and void itself. And the nightingale is luck and chance - well loved by thieves and assassins alike.

Sanguine is a party animal in the worst possible way - the Prince of debauchery will drag the most pious of cats and make sinners of them. Despite this, he is not evil - he just has wildly different morals. He is also one of the most personable Princes.

Vaermina is one of the worst of the Princes - a lover of tortures both physical and psychological, and will inflict pain and suffering on anyone and anything. Her too-long mouth produces nightmare inducing venom and fog.

Sheogorath is Prince of chaos, cheeses, and calipers. He is king of pranks, both harmless and harmful, and has a mind few can understand. His appearance is strange - an unknown creature, perhaps an ape, split down the middle, with cat ears. He has been quoted as saying “nya” often.

Hi, Ray! The author of Foxes, Pillars, and Sea-salt Rust here!!! Someone recommended my fic here????? I'm so honored!!! 🥹

So I would like to put forth my own recommendations too. I put it in my fic's AN's also, but I highly recommend Far Beyond the Woods of Dawn by wolfghost (and the entire Drag My Dark Into The Dawn AU series the fic is part of, and I suggest you access the series while logged in, because a couple of the fics are registered users only, I promise it's worth it) and The Weaver by Concerned_Brown_Bread! Both feature OCs as protagonists, a Senju for the former (Tobirama's granddaughter) and an Uchiha for the latter (Itachi's elder twin sister).

Drag My Dark has to be one of the most immersive fiction experiences I've had, up there with the manga Otoyomegatari (if you know, you know), the character psychology is top-notch, the author expertly weaves worldbuilding into the narration in a way that it's so seamless and not at all like an infodump, I like to describe it as “a slice-of-life except that the characters live in a horrible war-torn war and that affects how they navigate their lives”. The world just feels lived-in. There's information about how wars cause sanctions and prices to rise and a good highlight on what it's like to be a civilian in this kind of world. The protagonist is still a child, but the author captures children in their writing so well. She's a traumatized young child and she acts like that!! Her trauma informs how she views everything, and her being raised by civilians (long story, read the prequel to find out lol) affects how she views shinobi and the world at large! I can't wait for what the story has in store for her. We're entering the Kirigakure arc 👀 (also heavily featuring so far are Tsunade and Kushina!! Kushina's chapter has got to be one of my favorites)

The Weaver takes on a different vibe and path regarding the politics and worldbuilding, but also really plausible and I love how the author incorporates academic excerpts from the future like snippets from a history book into the chapters itself like it just gives this work such a grand feel of “oh things are gonna have consequences, we're along the ride of a big, world-changing tale”. The characterization is top-notch in this fic. You really do feel the complicated dynamics between the family members, how for all that Itachi is a prodigy he is also just a child and thus lacks the perspective to see propaganda for what it is, and the author does so brilliantly by contrasting him against his twin sister, the protagonist, who's a reborn adult (a politician in her past life who died of heat stroke before election day, which is objectively the funniest premise for a reincarnation EVER). The protagonist is witty, smart, funny, relatable, and just all-around very good. She lives rent-free in my head, can you tell? I know the fic is on hiatus but I had the privilege to read the unpublished chapters because ✨beta✨ and I promise you, it's very well worth it.

Both fics give weight to civilians instead of immediately dismissing them as “weak and stupid”, I love love love both fics and please please please read them I promise they're amazing! They have very different vibes but they're both amazing.

As for my fic, yeah I did base my protagonist off of Sansa Stark, LOL. I even tried to incorporate Sansa's lines from the first book into my own writing to really sell the vibe!

I love Whirlpool Queen, Maelstrom King but the politics in Foxes, Pillars, and Sea-salt Rust take on a very different shape from WQMK's— a bit more like wolfghost's Drag My Dark. I too will feature civilians in this fic! Daimyo's and nobility and merchants and commoners alike! Please look forward to it! I have Plans™ for Uzushio's politics and its role in the world as a whole.

Music professor!Eddie Munson and English professor!reader

Warnings: Fluff, sexual tension, future smut in this AU!

Eddie had a successful career as a touring and session musician, playing guitar for amazing artists and for his own band. But somewhere along the way he lost the words. Lyrics don’t come easy to him anymore. He used to fill pages and pages with his thoughts and ideas and feelings. Cheeky little ditties and heartfelt anecdotes. But these days it’s just melody and nothing else. He’s a wizard on guitar but only under someone else’s words.

His prolific career led to a steady fall gig teaching as a lecturer at a prestigious college known for its music program (they didn’t care about the fact that he’d barely finished high school since he’d preformed on Grammy winning tracks). And it turns out that his office is housed right next to the brick building containing the English department.

Which is how he met you.

Sweet. Studious. Buttoned up you. Plaid and tweed and stockinged and woolen and soft and warm you. You became unlikely friends when you’d both reached for the last muffin in the little coffee shop nestled between your buildings. Conversation flowed easily, in spite of your differing aesthetics, and as the weeks flew by that first fall, you and Eddie became fast friends with a regular set time to catch up over coffee and one of those coveted muffins.

Eddie spends his springs in studios doing session recordings, but eventually you cajole him into teaching summer courses. Selfish as you are to have him with you for two seasons of the year. Little do you know that he’s selfish in his desire to see you in less layers in the warm months, sweaters traded for tasteful but lower cut blouses, structured skirts and tights traded for shorter, flowy material and skin.

It’s on your third fall semester together that Eddie happens upon your notebook, however. You’d both spent a lunch break together in companionable silence, chewing and working on your own paperwork. You come back from washing up to find Eddie flipping through the notebook you’d left open on the table. He looks up at you with wide eyes.

“You’re so fucking talented, you know that?”

You scramble forward and grab the notebook from him, slamming it shut and holding it against your chest protectively.

“Eddie! You can’t read other people’s writing without asking!” you huff. Ruffled.

“Well then can I read it, please?” Eddie asks. He holds his hand out to get you to hand it back. You shake your head.

“No!”

Eddie pouts at you as you regain your seat across from him.

“That’s some deep shit you have in there,” he says gravely. You roll your eyes.

“Eloquent, Munson.”

“Hey, look. Never said I was,” Eddie says with a roguish wink that’s got you hotter under the collar than you’d like to admit. “Haven’t been able to write in years. A decade even.”

“I don’t believe that,” you snort.

“Why not?”

“Because you’re a storyteller. A tale weaver. A blowhard,” you tease, sliding the tip of your finger around the rim of your mug. Eddie watches your finger's trajectory for a minute before speaking up again.

"We should team up."

"I'm sorry?" you ask, certain you've heard him wrong.

"Your words. My music."

"What are you talking about?" you ask, completely flustered at the very proposition even though he hasn't explained himself at all yet.

"You do lyrics, I do melody. We could kill it, babe!" His grin is massive and your heart constricts. He often calls you by pet names, but this time it makes you feel light headed. You throw your notebook and things into your bag.

"You've finally lost it, Munson," you say, light and dismissive, getting up from the table. "You're out of your mind."

Eddie is quick to follow you out of the cafe.

"This is the clearest I've been thinking in years!" he insists, grabbing your elbow before you can dash off to your own building. He whirls you back to him and you catch your balance by gripping his bicep. His rather large bicep...

"This is what I've been waiting for. Inspiration. Guidance. A muse!"

Eddie's eyes are so wide and his smile is so hopeful that you feel your stomach flip.

"Eddie, I have no background in music. I don't write songs!"

"But you write poetry - it's the same thing!"

You huff and look around wildly as if some kind of excuse or escape will materialize out of thin air and get you out of this uncomfortable situation. Instead, all you see is the lanky, expectant frame of Eddie Munson.

"You know for a fact that lyricism is poetic, so I'm not even going to dignify that excuse with any further arguments," Eddie says. His smile is wide enough to indicate that he knows he's won. He knows he's got you.

Suddenly his big hands are gripping your wrists and pulling your hands to rest on his chest.

"Help me. Do you need me to beg? I'll beg, sweetheart, I have no dignity," he moans playfully. All of your nerve endings alight at the sound and your imagination immediately runs wild at the thought of what else he could moan with those pretty lips. You squash those thoughts as quickly as you can and nod in the process of dislodging the inappropriate thoughts in your head, which Eddie takes as an affirmative to his begging. "You'll do it?! You're fucking perfect, you know that?"

Before you can correct his misunderstanding, Eddie kisses you hard on the cheek. The motion is wet and smacking and it shakes you to your very core. His hand cradles you at your waist and for a second your bodies are pressed flush together. Your entire being vibrates at the feeling of Eddie Munson against you and it seems like time stands still.

But then he's pulling away, taking his warmth and his steadiness with him.

"You won't regret this, sweetheart. We're going to make the best team ever, just you wait!"

And with that, Eddie bounds off in the direction of the music building, leaving you with only a foggy comprehension of what you've supposedly just agreed to and with the memory of the feeling of his body against yours.

Trying to figure out a Celestial family tree from the Jade Emperor, even in it's most basic form is kinda hard.

In Journey to the West he def got a sister (Yaoji) and she had 3 kids including Erlang Shen (his nephew). Yang Chan/Sanniang (Erlang's sister) had Liu Chen Xiang according to one version of the Lotus Lantern fairytale.

Him and Queen Mother of the West have at least has 7 daughters according to "Weaver Girl and the Cowherd" which includes; Zhinu (the star Vega), Yanguang Niangniang (Goddess of Eyesight), Songzi/Zhusheng Niangniang (Goddess of Fertility/Childbirth). But the last one occasionally is three separate goddesses rolled into one, or is depicted as a version of Guanyin. Guanyin herself is either a former mortal than became a Bodhisattva, or a daughter of the Jade Emperor who became buddist.

But the tale of "Hou Yi and the 10 Suns" seems to change who's kids the Suns/Sons (puns) are depending on the variant - Jade Emperor is either their dad, granddad, or more often unrelated entirely.

Mythology is confusing.

In the LMK au Im crafting; I have it down that the Jade Emperor and QMotW only got the 7 daughters who are either alive but estranged/disowned (Zhinu and Princess Iron Fan), or reincarnated/died as mortals without their parents permission (Lady Yin). Erlang Shen is so high ranked cus he's technicallly the only male heir in line for the throne. Nezha barely scrapping the royal bloodline since his mom is a reincarnation of the Second Daughter.

If anyone with greater knowledge in Chinese mythos could give me a heads up regarding family trees, it would be cool.

However, all of those plans are thrown for a loop when Hinata and Boruto’s lives are taken by a storm from the past. That storm’s name - Naruto Uzumaki.

In these next ones, their kid isn't named Boruto, but it's still Naruto and Hinata's son.
