Major story update for these two, given I chose to seriously change some things around.

Facts about the Cat Bros below: 

Ages: 

While they likely have existed for a long time in human years as normal cats, they’ve had their current human forms only about 20-30 years. Cecil’s human form is considered to be mid-to-late twenties, and Quinn is considered early twenties. (Hence Cecil is seen as the older brother)

(Their kind go through two different life-cycles in this story; first they live 8 lifetimes as normal cats, then once they die the eight time, their spirit is reborn as a Bakeneko kitten. It takes them a few years to be able to shapeshift into human form. How long it takes varies from cat to cat.)

Personality:

Cecil is the more serious, no nonsense type with a dry and sarcastic sense of humor. He’s very bossy and blunt but also very caring, the kind of friend/boyfriend who makes sure you take care of yourself. 

Quinn is more hedonistic, head-in-the-clouds type who loves being at the center of attention. He’s kind of naive and easy to fool, and tends to be more optimistic than his brother. While an attention hogger, he is a very kind person and wants to genuinely inspire others and brighten their day with his music. 

Friends:

Cecil is friends with his coworker Taiga, as well as their favorite cafeteria runner Alois. He also is friendly enough with Taiga’s boyfriend Laurent, and Quinn’s boyfriend’s stylist brother, Kaspian. 

Quinn’s closest friend is his manager Franziska, but he’s also friendly with his brother’s coworker Taiga and her boyfriend. Generally he makes friends quite easily due to his earnest, outgoing nature. 

Family:

Both chose Yui Araknos/Blackthorne (The mother of the protagonist of NCP) as their “keeper” I.E caretaker for the two cats until they could transform into their more human forms and start their proper new lives. They are still close with her and visit her regularly, and Cecil tends to use her other surname as his when disguised as human. 

Love interest:

Both are dating a member of a popular rockband, Quinn is dating the Wyvern Sebastian who is their basist, and Cecil the lead figure, Chouma. 

Fun facts:

When in cat form, Quinn looks like an orange tabby, and Cecil a Siamese cat. (they still have split tails)

Their names are not Japanese, because Yui decided to choose their names from her husband Harrow’s culture due to missing him - namely she wanted to give them western names over Japanese. OFC, she didn’t exactly pick straight up Scottish names, given she was a bit naive about this topic and just chose whatever sounded nice to her.

They are not biological brothers, but having been travelling together once they were reborn as bakenekos, they consider one another as siblings.

Quinn had a slew of awful boyfriends before meeting Sebastian, and he didn’t really realize how dysfunctional his old relationships were until now, especially after Yui pointed out how much happier he seemed with Sebastian than ever before.

While Quinn acts confident most of the time, he does have some self-esteem issues caused by the pressure of his job/generally being a more sensitive person, which partially led to him ending up in bad relationships

Cecil is one of the few people not spooked by Dr. Angus in the story (Franziska’s brother), he’s generally not the easiest to terrify, often watching through horror movies with a blank or bored expression. (his boyfriend is also a former Yakuza it turns out, and the amount of nonsense he has to deal with after that reveal requires nerves of steel)

Quinn and Cecil no longer live under the same roof for practical reasons as Quinn is a star so there’s a lot of buzz around him that Cecil doesn’t care for. OFC, when you start dating the lead figure of a rockband, you might not be able to avoid all the buzz anymore, but he tries. Cecil is a very privy person after all

They both still visit Yui from time-to-time, with Quinn doing it more often as he was closer with her than Cecil.

Quinn has much more cat-like tendencies than Cecil, such as liking to hop on tables, climb trees, knock down water bottles and get high on catnip. 

Cecil will only do any of those things when high on catnip.

She did her best to sound as quiet and gentle as possible. Swiftflight wasn't good with words, so she hoped that any sliver of kindness would be of some encouragement to express what was on her mind.

For a few heartbeats, it was completely silent. It was dark out at this time, with only the moon and stars illuminating the vast taiga. And only the heavens know what time it was. Mousewhisper could barely hear the snow landing oh-so-gently on the outside of the fallen pine tree shelter. And Swiftflight's uneven breathing was pretty noticeable too. The gray tabby she-cat was trembling, mostly in her front paws and tail. Is she shaking from the cold or from fear? It was so hard to tell. But Mousewhisper's heart sunk even more when she saw her denmate tightly close her eyes and viciously shake her head; she was almost worried that she was going to hurt herself being like that. Swiftflight sat up as tall as she could, shoulders tense and rigid, and looked up with her eyes fueled with anger- righteous anger. Their eyes met and Mousewhisper flinched at the amount of intimidation and power Swiftflight had inside of her.

So, these are my babies from one group!

I'm in this Warriors rp group, The Taiga Clans(TTC), and honestly it's the best thing that's happened to me. These are my kids from Flurryclan.

Hawkpaw(far left) is based on a British Longhair and is a solid cinnamon sweetheart. But don't underestimate him, he fully lives up to his breed's nickname "bulldog."

Ferretpaw(left) is the brother of Finchpaw. He's a chocolate pointed Neva Masquerade with white spotting. He's my anxious and caring child.

Finchpaw (right) is Ferretpaw's brother. He's an orange tabby pointed Neva Masquerade with white spotting. He's my suspicious and honor-bound child. Don't worry about his seriousness, though. He's still kit-like underneath.

Minkfang(far right) is a friendly tom, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't mess you up. He's a longhair Burmese. He's the closest friend Ivyblossom has, which is what led to them being mates.

Ivyblossom (front) is my baby of all my babies. As my first cat, this little cymric kid has my heart. It wasn't until after I made her that we realized her design should be reverse, but we ran with it. She's a silver harleyquinn with white underneath. On her paw that's raised is a scar from an ermine attack. She is loving and soft and could work herself into fainting. She's my medicine cat babe. (Our group allows mc mates with exceptions)

Nyankees, Vol. 1

I was pretty excited when I heard about this license, despite never having heard of the title. I mean, stray cats depicted as delinquents in the classic “Japanese high school gang members” sort of way. It sounded hilarious and cute. Sadly, while it is cute when the cats are shown as cats, and there is an occasional joke that lands, this turns out to be a title that takes itself all too seriously. I get the sense that this is someone who wants to write delinquents rather than cats, and is therefore using the gimmick to tell the story he wants to tell. We haven’t had all that many successful delinquent manga in North America (have there been any?), so it’s also relying on a lot of tropes that are likely far more nostalgic and familiar to the Japanese reader. The premise is great, though, and the creator at least brings some nifty cat art to the title. It may get better as it goes along, but not a strong start.

The cat/hoodlum on the cover is Ryuusei, who is new to this neighborhood and cares not for all of your so-called “rules”. He’s here searching for the one-armed man… erm, sorry, for the calico tom with a scar on his eye that apparently has a past history with Ryuusei. In his new neighborhood, he looks like a pushover at first, not impressing the one female cat in the cast, Mii, and getting the crap kicked out of him by the other cats/gang members. But it turns out he was just starving, and once he gets food in him he actually kicks a lot of ass, including the gang leader, Taiga. In fact, he kicks so much ass that Taiga immediately wants to give up the leadership position to him. But it’s complicated. Ryuusei has his own thing that he’s doing, rival gangs are there to step in at any sign of weakness, and worst of all, Mii’s been kidnapped!

One thing I liked is the research that apparently went into the various kinds of cats the characters are. Our lead is a male dark tabby, pretty damn common, but the calico tom he’s looking for is quite rare, something mentioned by the others. The ‘stray cat = delinquent’ theme is sometimes amusing, as when we see the human-drawn Ryuusei get stuck in a box too small for his frame – though frankly the gag goes on far too long. And I hope you like cat puns, because they’re in here as well. Honestly, I don’t think they translate well, though at least Yen realized it had to keep the ‘nyan’ in ‘Nyankees’ to have it make sense. But honestly… at the end of the day, this is for delinquent manga fans, such as Worst. There’s the tough, rakish lead, the tomboy girl who slowly finds herself drawn to him, lots of fights, lots of guys acting tough. But they’re cats. Sometimes a girl chases after them, and they all scatter. I’m hoping the 2nd volume makes this either a bit less serious or a bit more cat-oriented.
