ROOKIAGI? VIAROOK? made me cackle. figuring out ship names 0/10. (also elgarnoncon... TWO sounds like a direct to vhs sequel 😆 ... oh no. thats like three tech gens out of date 😆)

I mean, is there a consensus? 😭 I still don't know! I just want us all to be able to talk about the Viago/Rook ship because it's eating away at the grey matter of my brain.

I'm glad you got the intended vibe on Elgar'noncon...... TWO!! hahaha. the first one was just titled 'elgarnoncon' so it seemed appropriate

but holy hell the sequel has been the bane of my existence. I'm going to need to rewrite most of it, I think, because it's just not working. The only bit that's serviceable IMO is the first section, which I present to you now, because I like it and this fic is frustrating me:

It had infuriated Elgar’nan when he realized his Rook had been stolen away from him. In the dead of night, her oh-so-noble companions had somehow snuck in and taken her away. The gall of them.  If only they could realize the harm they were doing to her, by keeping her from him. Ghilan’nain, when she’d found out, had laughed at him. It was ironic- here he was, the God of Vengeance, looking to repurpose the little rebel. And his sister, for all her ingenuity, just wanted her dead. He’d made so much progress with her. By showing her pleasure, he’d given her just a taste of what she could have with him, if she only gave into her true desires. She was such a fascinating little prize, made all the sweeter by the satisfaction of taking her from the Dread Wolf. Even he could see that she was a rare woman among the new children of his children, as the leader of the quaint little rebellion trying to keep him from his rightful place. It just made him crave her obedience and subservience even further. The way she’d fought him, trying to remain steadfast until she broke apart in his arms. The way she’d come to look at him the way every grateful slave did, her eyes full of adoration and longing. Yes, perhaps Ghilan’nain was right. He was sulking. Admittedly, he wasn’t a patient man. But in this instance, it would only be a matter of time. If his years ruling the Elvhenan had taught him anything about his people, it's that once they have seen the light of the sun, none could happily return to a life in the dark. She could try, but he knew Rook would come crawling back to him in time.  She would return to him. No matter how Solas had tried to manipulate her, to oh-so-subtly make her more like him- the hypocrite. Elgar’nan had caught glimpses of it in Rook’s mannerisms and reactions: the lingering influence of the Dread Wolf. As though nudging someone, bit-by-bit, into being what you want is somehow more righteous that bending them to your will. Solas. That cheap imitation of a God. Another slave who’d climbed too far. Mythal should have put him down like the dog he was a long time ago. Elgar’nan still owed him for the years he’d spent in chains, in that dismal fade prison, and he intended to collect. If he could do that through the misery Solas would feel, watching his pupil abandon him and everything he’d tried to twist her into... if he could force Solas to betray himself, those lofty principles of his, and expose him as the hypocrite he was... Elgar’nan had gotten a sliver of it, and he wanted more. Once Rook came back to him, he would have it.

I considered sending shout-outs to some of the Thunderfam artists who have multiple favourite artworks I love, those I've collaborated with, commissioned art from, or who have made fanart from one of my fics. Even then the list would be very long, so I hope you all know who you are!

So, I'm gonna go with a piece of art that I'd seen before I landed here and found the Thunderfam. One I'd probably stumbled across on that pinning site, by an artist whose works absolutely captivated me - @lenle-g

Amongst so many wonderful creations this one in particular is a favourite because it tells so many stories! I want to gush about all the little details in each little portrait, the expressions, the things they're doing, the details of the wallet and the table it's sitting on . . .

but I think the art speaks for itself far better than I can!

Hmm. Not sure how weird any of my search topics have been - mostly innocent things like minimum ages for pilots licenses and various motor racing categories, rich people hiding money and creating treasure hunts, geographical locations . . .

One (or two) of the most surprising research topics I found myself investigating for a fanfic involved information on raccoons, and ventilation/heating systems built within walls/roof spaces in American houses!

i'm as upset as any 10+ year old tumblr user to see the degradation of ask culture. since i've been making my own games, i get people in my notes reblogging one game regularly—weekly, daily, sometimes multiple time a day—desperate for interaction that their followers simply won't give them, even as those same followers reblog the game from them. it's awful to see people crying out for connection only to be ignored by people who can obviously hear them. it makes me sad!!! and it's frustrating!!!

but at a certain point, we have to accept that yelling about how things were 10 years ago isn't going to change people's behavior. a vast majority of tumblr users simply do not send asks, don't intend to, and will reblog ask games without sending any questions no matter how much we insist it's impolite. it's time for a new approach—so to that end:

for everyone reading this, i give you permission and highly encourage you to copy and paste my ask games (any ask game tbh) into a blank document, fill out every single question for the OCs or WIPs of your choice, and post it. without getting a single ask from anyone, share it anyway. one question at a time, everything in one giant text post, whatever. there's a good chance people who are too shy to send asks will appreciate getting to learn about your characters and stories, and maybe even encourage them to ask you for more details. and even if they don't, maybe you'll build the confidence to post whatever you want about your characters, whenever you want.
