Typhoons Line Up in the Western Pacific
In an unusual sight, four storms churned simultaneously in the Western Pacific Ocean in November 2024. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that it was the first time since records began in 1951 that so many storms co-existed in the Pacific basin in November.
At 8:55 a.m. Philippine Standard Time (12:55 a.m. Universal Time) on November 11, NASA’s EPIC (Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera) imager on the DSCOVR (Deep Space Climate Observatory) satellite observed the storms—named Yinxing, Toraji, Usagi, and Man-Yi—visible in the image above. At the time of the image, the storms were either approaching the Philippines or had already passed over the islands and surrounding areas.
About 40 minutes before the image was acquired, Typhoon Toraji (locally known as Nika) made landfall on the northeastern side of the Philippines’ main island of Luzon. The storm unleashed flooding and brought power outages to Aurora Province. Landslides induced by the rain buried roads in the Cordillera mountain range. The Japan Metrological Agency reported that the storm reached peak intensity the night before, with sustained winds of 130 kilometers (80 miles) per hour.
To the west, Typhoon Yinxing (locally known as Marce) hit the Philippines on November 7, four days prior to this image. On the day it made landfall on northern Luzon, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) reported that the storm had sustained winds of 240 kilometers (150 miles) per hour, making it a super typhoon, equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. The storm then weakened before hitting Vietnam and dissipating on November 12.
Typhoon Usagi (locally known as Ofel) is forecast to become the fifteenth tropical cyclone to affect the Philippines archipelago this year, closely following the path of Toraji. On the day of the image, Usagi was a tropical storm that later rapidly intensified to become a super typhoon. By 6:00 p.m. Universal Time on November 13, Usagi had winds around 240 kilometers (150 miles) per hour, equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane. It was forecast to hit the islands later that same day.
To the east, Man-Yi was a tropical storm with sustained winds of 85 kilometers (50 miles) per hour at the time of this image. The JTWC forecast that the storm is likely to intensify into a typhoon and make landfall on the Philippines on November 17.
The Philippines has borne the brunt of typhoon activity in the Pacific this year. Past storms include Tropical Storm Trami and Typhoon Kong-Rey, which brought deadly flooding and landslides to Luzon in late October.
Typhoon season in the West Pacific stretches across the entire year, but most storms form between May and October. November typically sees three named storms, with one becoming a super typhoon, based on the 1991-2000 average.

Usagi is the fifth major storm to hit the Philippines in just three weeks, with a sixth forecast for this weekend. At least 160 people have been killed and nine million displaced, while the unusual frequency has left people already struggling with the aftermath of previous heavy rains and flooding little time to prepare for the next strike.
Moraleda said it was fortunate that the hole was above a store room and not a bedroom. But water has dripped from the ceiling, damaging their pharmacy on the ground floor.
People in Cagayan province, where Appari is located, are used to typhoons, but Moraleda said they had not expected Yinxing’s onslaught. Usagi has made them nervous because it is on the same track and is also a category 4.
“This is our fifth storm in three weeks. We have no time to repair between the storms,” Moraleda said. Last month, typhoon Kong-rey and typhoon Trami – the deadliest of all the storms – also battered the province.

Typhoon Yinxing: Tensions Rise in the West Philippine Sea
It seems that as of November 10, 2024, the waters of the West Philippine Sea were anything but tranquil, if we believe the reports on the internet. With the ominous approach of Typhoon Yinxing, you’d expect the fishermen to be holed up, but in a strange twist of fate, it wasn’t just nature that had the locals on edge—it was also the power plays of nations barking out orders off the coast. NATIONAL NEWS: PAGASA faces near potential legal claims of Name Infringement over Amphibia's Marcy Wu of Disney Television Animation [#FirstOnOneNETnews]
SALCEDO, EASTERN SAMAR -- On Monday (November 4th, 2024 -- Leyte local time)… Typhoon Marce, known internationally as Yinxing, intensified into a severe tropical storm as it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). According to state weather bureau 'Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration' (PAGASA). Marce was located 590 kilometers east of 'Virac, Catanduanes' with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 125kph.
PAGASA enhanced to Signal #1 in parts of Northern Luzon, indicating that these areas should prepare for strong winds. On the following day, Marce continued to intensify becoming a typhoon, as it drenched Cagayan, Batanes, Apayao and Ilocos Norte with moderate to heavy rains. The southeastern portion of Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City were placed under the effect of moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms by the latest Thunderstorm Advisory #9 on November 5th. Flooding and landslides were reported in these areas.
'Marcy Regina Wu' is a Taiwanese-American majoring originally from California State and recently moved to Massachusetts in 2029. She is specifically famous for her character 'Marcy Wu' in the American cartoon show "Amphibia". The said female protagonist character is an adventurous, kind-hearted heroine who always helps her friends.
Before, 'King Andrias Leviathan' previously backstab in the chest with his sword, drawing her defeat at the end of Season 2 finale on late-May 2021, within minutes to commit murder of shocking betrayal in Newtopia castle. The story progress in history, when she came under the control of 'The Core' and 'Darcy Wu' after her temporal death. The final 3rd season relates up to graduation, after King Andrias' invasion ended in Los Angeles. Marcy's own adventure and trials are found in "Marcy's Journal" which is available everywhere sold or being borrowed in your local libraries.
This week, Disney Television Animation (DTVA) has initiated legal proceedings against PAGASA, alleging that they have stolen the name "Marcy" for Typhoon Marce. The American animation of Disney argues that the use of "Marcy" in a weather context, despite the show's finale, infringes on their intellectual property rights. Thus far, PAGASA has not made any official statement on our news team.
As this issue continues to evolve, whether or not a settlement can actually be reached, or only makes things worse between the two (2) parties is still in the balance.

Wetterbericht
