I’m gonna be honest I don’t read much. Reading is for nerds.

I’m the kind of person that needs to finish a book as soon as I pick it up so I haven’t had the time anymore. As a teenager I was really into the classic gothic horror lit, I even had a fandom phase around The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde which led to me meeting a lot of very special people, lots of fond memories. BUT! I also really like the Republic Commando series from the Star Wars expanded universe, as well as the Mass Effect supplementary novels… it’s like junk food. Oh and my plethora of art books..

picture quaint, adorable, almost fairytale cottage - old exposed stone and shutters. the home is their escape, where they don’t have to be the gojos, the six eyes or the dryad, they’re just them. where yuuji isn’t Sukuna’s vessel, or megumi is the ten shadows potential heir of the zenin clan or nobara isn’t the one trying to hold things together, where shoko can show how much she cares and nanami can switch off, where akio can be a baby.

they bought it after they had the kids living with them for 18 months and the staff quarters apartment on the school grounds wasn’t quite big enough for them anymore.

the interior is a moshposh of everything, the kids art, readers flowers and trinkets from missions and random things gojo decided he liked. if you asked them they would say their vibe was whimsical, cottagecore whateverwedecidewelikecore. lots of blue, green, lamps instead of overhead lights, knitted throw blankets and fuzzy cushions beside tons of books and mugs for satoru’s signature homemade hot chocolate and cuddles. it’s not a huge home - not the mansion where Satoru grew up with over 20 bedrooms totally unoccupied. it’s got 5 bedrooms, the master bedroom with its en-suite, Megumi’s room, Tsumiki’s room, a spare room which became Akio’s nursery and the current guest room. there’s a library (it’s an office, but it’s so full of books it might as well be a library, a kitchen with a dining table at the window for family meals and a living room perfect for nights as a family. there’s 3 bathrooms. the main one, the master en-suite and one between megumi and tsumiki’s room. the exterior is covered in plants (aided with a little cursed energy) and the garden is a winding pathway of vegetable patches and flowerbeds shaded by willows and cherry blossoms. the property is bordered by a sweet fence and at the very end of the garden is a babbling stream.

I saw ur requests are open and that u also write for moder!Obi-Wan. Sooo… I’d like to request a modern!obi x fem!reader where he meets the readers parents for the first time. He’s super nervous cuz they are a bit older (him and reader -> like in their 30s/40s), he was already engaged (but got cheated on maybe and maybe even has little daughter) and he really love reader and is like “but what if they dont like me” (maybe hes especially nervous about her dad). Reader obviously comforts him in his distressed state and the evening goes incredibly well: they all like him (of course) and are happy they found each other.

I hope u can work with that and I wanted to ask if u like more detailed requests like this or if u prefer the more undetailed one for creative freedom?

Buttons and Ties

"Alright, which one would be the better option?", Obiwan walked out of the bedroom, his shirt half tucked in, his buttons still undone with dark trouser pants that were impeccably ironed out. He held two ties next to neck, his eyes expectant for your answer.

You turn to him from your book that you were reading on the sofa. It was clear, his tapping foot, his worried gaze, he was nervous. You were taking him to meet your parents, for the first time in your relationship, for the first time since you've known each other for a year.

"Which one do you like?", you ask putting away the book to give him your attention.

"Which one would tell your father that I am a well suited gentleman for you?", he rambled. To which you could only smile as you pushed away from your seat to meet him where he stood. Folding your arms to act like you were giving immense thought to the ties he held near his neck as he shuffled back and forth on his feet.

"The only validation of your suitability needs to come from the both of us.", your eyes found his as you took the elegant sky blue tie from his right hand.

"So, do you think you're a good fit for me?", you asked, making it sound like an interview to which he finally relaxed and chuckled with you.

"Ah what's gotten into me?", he sighed pulling you close as you fixed the tie around his collar.

"How could I not be? You know my favourite tie.", he said confidently as you dusted his shoulder positioning the tie in place.

"That's the spirit.", you stood on your toes to kiss him on the cheek to which he sighed with content.

"It's going to be fine.", you whispered and when you pulled away, he gave you a soft nod.

"It's just that.", he paused as he tucked in his shirt and sat down to pull on his socks. He remained quite for a second collecting his thoughts.

"What if they don't like me? I'm not the ideal candidate.", he said, busy putting on his shoes and tying the lace.

"I don't have a track record of great engagements or marriages. My life is a mess. And I come in a package of two, along with my little girl.", he continued.

But you crouched down to swat away his fingers from the lace he was unable to tie as he followed his train of thought.

"Your father is a well accomplished man and ...", he trailed off again.

"You deserve better than me, someone your parents might be proud of.", he said finally to which you smacked his knee.

"Ow!", he exclaimed.

"What was that for?", he exclaimed.

"That is for talking nonsense. I want you. That's all there is to it. You're a pilot, a loving father and", you got up to sit next to him.

"the man of my dreams", you smiled, which he mirrored.

"They're going to love you.", you added to watch his cheeks turn red.

"Ok", he finally settled down.

"I'm all ready for your mother's tiramisu.", he kissed your forehead and you set out.

The dinner was devine and the company delightful, he had been worried about nothing, almost about to let his own anxiety deny him of the love he deserved. Your mother placed a slice of tiramisu before him.

"Any man who loves my daughter", he heard her say with happy tears glistening at the edge of her eyes.

"and my tiramisu", she smiled. "is a winner in my eyes."

He eased into the seat after he thanked your mother, just when you emerged from the living room with the family photo book in your hands. He caught your gaze and he thanked his past, for being horrid and broken because through that treacherous path, it lead him to you.

He enjoyed his desert as he wrapped his fingers around one of your hands while you rested your head on his shoulder as your mother narrated stories of your childhood. His heart was full and grateful. That all his waiting had gifted him an eternity with you.

Quaint, cozy yet vibrant. The coffee shop was a place that couldn’t possibly be located in New York, it didn’t quite fit the description of the city that never slept. Perhaps that was exactly the reason why you kept coming back to the place that once held your happiest memories with the person who was no longer a part of your life.

While you worked for SHIELD and your job included filing paperwork, there were certain perks that allowed access to the Avengers facility to collect mission reports on most days from Natasha or Clint but on some lucky days, Captain America. Oblivious to your knowledge, a set of ocean blue eyes had found yours irresistible and intriguing during your visits to the tower and his rare stay-overs on Midgard.

One rainy afternoon while it was your day off, you chose to catch up on some reading whilst enjoying your regular vanilla latte with some lemon blueberry muffins at your favourite café. The seat you’d unconsciously chosen appeared enormous now that you were alone, that cushioned window ledge seat you cuddled in with your beloved on numerous summer days, laughing and swapping life stories.

Your reminiscent sigh diverted Thor’s attention from the massive platter in front of him towards your direction. He observed how your eyes kept flitting between the book you clutched in your hands and the empty space next to you, how every so often your gaze wandered out the window while your fingers mindlessly played with a stray lock of hair, how your beautiful features held a look of sorrow that made him wonder who in their right minds would dare hurt such a lovely maiden.

The urge to talk to a Midgardian had never been as strong as Thor’s mind raced with ideas on approaching you, just as a plausible one was finalized, Jane Foster tugged on his arm before resuming her ramblings on something related to astrophysics – Thor had zoned out long ago. When his gaze returned towards the table at the far end of the café, he frowned to find an empty table with half a muffin lying a small dish and no sign of you.

It had been months since he last saw you, memory of your forlorn face still fresh in his mind as he made his way inside the café after ordering yet another sizeable meal, this time just for himself. Thor was delighted when he saw you perched on the same seat, clutching the same novel, your table filled with the same food he had observed last time. The smell of bacon, eggs, pancakes and coffee filled your nostrils as your head peeked out of your book to seek its source. A rather good-looking gentleman with long golden locks eyeing his meal with a look of utter glee caught your attention. He must have heard you inhale because you quickly ducked under your novel when his eyes had found yours.

“Pardon me miss, do you wish to share this meal with me?”

Thor’s voice loud enough to turn a few heads towards your direction, cheeks burning with embarrassment at this point. How you wished the earth would swallow you up at this moment, since that wasn’t an option, you stuck to storming out of the café, leaving Thor frowning, confused at your unexpected and sudden exit.

A few weeks passed since he last saw you, his expectant eyes scanned the busy café before landing on you at your usual table. This time, Thor wasted no time in approaching you, his large strides took him towards you in no time. 

“Umm hello. I’m Thor, son of Odin. Would you be so kind to allow me to join you for a cup of coffee?”

He offered a kind smile and an outstretched hand, while you were temporarily stunned at this sudden interruption, that too by someone as strikingly good-looking as Thor Odinson. You glanced around the occupied tables, considering letting the God join yours before taking his hand and introducing yourself. 

“Thank you Lady (Y/N).” 

“It’s no problem. The place is quite busy anyway.” 

Thor frowned as he saw you get back to your book, feeling a little disheartened that you didn’t seem up for a chat. 

A few minutes passed with you reading the same line from your book over and over again and Thor fidgeting with his phone, not really knowing what people did sticking it in front of their faces for hours on end. Soon, the waitress brought your usual coffee and blueberry muffins, reminding Thor he was actually famished and had completely forgotten about ordering.

“Please help yourself.” You held up the plate of muffins for him to take, a kind smile decorated on your face. 

“Thank you so much.”

Thor accepted one and bit right into it, forgetting to take off the lining as it stuck to his beard much to his embarrassment while you stifled your giggle. 

“It’s okay, I didn’t see anything.” 

Shaking your head, you placed your book right in front, hiding behind it to laugh. 

“May I ask what made you so unhappy Lady (Y/N)?” Thor questioned, after a few moments of silence, taking you by surprise. 

“Excuse me?” 

“I didn’t mean to pry but I saw you some weeks ago and I felt the need to know more, only if you wish to.” 

“Well I don’t and it’s none of your business.” You snapped, angry that he’d approached out of pity and he had the audacity to ask you upfront. You weren’t expecting this and all you wanted was some peace and quiet without having to rehash the past.

Packing your stuff rather clumsily, you stormed out of the shop leaving Thor staring after you once again.

Hey, love your blog! I wanted ask: do you have any jpn-learning advice for almost-complete beginners? I can read hiragana and am working on katakana (i understand that those r critical!) But I dont have any kanji info + dont know where to start w grammar/pronunciation/etc. Ive seen ppl mention writing a daily journal or changing ur phone language, but im not close to advanced enough 4 that. I have no idea how to structure my studies + would like 2 know where to start/daily things. ty! :)

Self-studying a language like Japanese can feel like navigating through a minefield. Without any structure it’s easy to feel disheartened with so many scripts, multiple readings and grammar constantly coming at your from every angle. 

Firstly, you need to be able to write both the complete Hiragana and Katakana script from memory in under 5 minutes. This was our very first task at university, during freshers week before classes had even started. There’s absolutely no way you can proceed unless you can do this - Set a timer and practice, it will make your life so much easier. Here’s some blank squared paper to print and practice on, but honestly any paper will do. 

Getting comfortable with Kanji is something you shouldn’t put off. For complete beginners, I’m posting the first 100 Kanji we learned at university in the 100 Kanji challenge, with stroke order, readings and vocabulary. 

Apps like Duolingo are only good for killing time while you’re waiting for the bus. They’re better than wasting time on Facebook or twitter, but shouldn’t be used exclusively in your language learning. Money spent on software like Rosetta stone would be better spent on getting a one-way ticket to Japan to live on the streets. You’d learn more Japanese that way.

So you know Hiragana and Katakana like the back of your hand, and you even can comfortably write and read a fair few Kanji - what next? All of this is useless without grammar, now it’s time to get yourself a textbook or - even better - a teacher. 

If you pick up a textbook and see no Japanese script whatsoever, yeet it straight out of the language learning section and towards the nearest tourist and travel shelf. Books that use exclusively Romaji have no place whatsoever in your Japanese study. No exceptions. 

Popular books I’ve seen include the Japanese for Busy People and Japanese from Zero books. I myself used the JFZ books when I was a wide eyed teenager, and actually found them quite helpful, though the way they slowly introduce hiragana can be like pulling teeth, but their grammar lessons flow very nicely.

YouTube is a treasure trove for Japanese language learning if you know where to look. My absolute all time favourite is Japanese Ammo With Misa. Her in-depth grammar lessons have everything you need, and should be watched in addition to chapters in your textbook. Also Japanese From Zero have a wide array of videos if you can’t find what you’re looking for with Misa. 

Lastly, and most importantly, you need a frightening amount of self-discipline. Make Japanese study part of your daily routine, no matter what. Learning a second language isn’t something you can simply dip in and out of, and as a self-learner you likely won’t have small-but-fierce senseis expecting homework three times a week as an incentive to actually get your work done. Just remember that if you don’t use it you lose it, so you have to do a little every day at the very least. But the reward is worth it, I promise. 頑張って！(Ganbatte!)
