Cochise announces headlining WHY ALWAYS ME? World Tour kicking off in February
Tumblr media
Fresh off the release of his fourth studio album WHY ALWAYS ME?, Florida rap star Cochise has just announced his forthcoming headlining World Tour – kicking off in February, 2025. Presale tickets will be on sale starting at 12:00pm EST on 11/20 (PW: WHYALWAYSME), while general on sale tickets go live starting at 10:00am Local Time on 11/22 (ticket link here). Taking Houston rapper TisaKorean on the road with him as an opener, Cochise will be embarking throughout North America during the tour's first leg, ending in his home-state of Florida on 3/30, before linking up with buzzing UK rapper Len for the majority of the European leg – concluding in Poland on 5/6. The recently-released WHY ALWAYS ME? arrived in October backed by a string of singles that included "GOOGLE ME", “YOSHIMITSU” (40M+ Streams), and the Aminé-assisted "NASTY". Boasting other features from Veeze and Anycia, WHY ALWAYS ME? served as a championship album celebrating a new era for Cochise — marking his first LP since 2022's THE INSPECTION and his appearance on the 2022 XXL Freshman cover. With production from BYNX (Drake, Travis Scott), Supah Mario (Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert), CHASETHEMONEY (J. Cole, Juice WRLD), and Lex Luger (Kanye West, Chief Keef), WHY ALWAYS ME? is a nebula of intergalactic opulence, melting into Cochise's hypnotizing vocals and sky-diving delivery.
Hailing from Palm Bay, Florida, Cochise is known for a kaleidoscopic sound that blends elements of Jamaican dancehall, hip-hop, and trap with animated lyricism punctuated by deep-cut references to anime, sports, and pop culture. Hailed for his high-flying vocal acrobatics and hazy, ethereal production, he exploded onto the scene with his 2021 major label debut Benbow Crescent, which featured the RIAA Certified Gold hit track “Hatchback” (400M Streams). Cochise has since sold out a solo headlining world tour and collaborated with the likes of Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, Denzel Curry, Juicy J, Teezo Touchdown, Lil B, and more.

IN THIS MOMENT's latest album, "Godmode", arrived back in October via BMG. The LP was produced by Kane Churko (ROB ZOMBIE, DISTURBED, PAPA ROACH) and Tyler Bates. Bates produced, wrote songs for, and played multiple instruments on albums by MARILYN MANSON, BUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell. He is best known, however, for scoring the box office smash "300", the Emmy Award-winning Showtime series "Californication", the "Guardians Of The Galaxy" and "John Wick" film franchises. IN THIS MOMENT's song "I Would Die For You" appeared on the soundtrack for "John Wick: Chapter 4", for which Bates wrote the score.
With a Grammy nomination ("The In-Between", 2021),platinum and gold record sales, multiple Top 25 entries on the Billboard Top 200 ("Black Widow" and "Ritual"),hits including "Whore", "Blood" and "Adrenalize" and career streams of more than 1.3 billion, you'd think IN THIS MOMENT might rest on their laurels. Instead, they've created "Godmode", 10 dynamic songs that mark a new high for the quintet, further cementing their legacy in the heavy music world. Proof positive is in "Godmode"'s first single, the industrial-heavy yet ultra-melodic "The Purge", and its darkly cinematic video directed by Jensen Noen (BRING ME THE HORIZON, DEMI LOVATO). From the portentous start of the '90s-tinged "Godmode" with Maria Brink's powerful primal scream to the pitch-perfect cover of Bjork's 1995 "Army Of Me" to the impassioned pain to partnership in "Everything Starts And Ends With You", "Godmode" is a cut above.
The L.A.-based band's eighth album finds vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth writing the most powerful songs of their career.
"We're always striving for reinvention and growth. It's been 10 years since our 'Blood' album, and there's been a lot of transitions happening, this year particularly, but it all felt so meant to be," explains Brink. Top talent aided and abetted IN THIS MOMENT; Spencer Charnas from ICE NINE KILLS guests on the pointed and pained "Damaged", and several songs were co-written with Tyler Bates, the award-winning producer and composer of numerous film, television, and video game scores. In fact, the initial collaboration with Bates, the moody, haunting mid-tempo winner "I Would Die For You" ended up both on the "John Wick: Chapter 4" soundtrack and as the last cut on "Godmode".
IN THIS MOMENT, a touring juggernaut who've slayed stages worldwide at Ozzfest, Warped Tour, Download, Knotfest and Rocklahoma, put out "Mother" in 2020, during the pandemic, giving fans something to hold on in during that bleak time, and earning "The In-Between" the band's first Grammy nod. It was 2021 when Howorth and Brink first wrote with Bates on "I Would Die For You". Following that collaboration, the duo were writing organically, for pleasure, not focused on the next album. As the pandemic waxed and waned, Howorth learned programming, and created music around synthwave sounds, which Brink leaned into. Her lyrical ideas arose both from soul-searching and "humanity and so much crisis and so many heart-wrenching things in the world. That negativity and darkness is how songs like 'The Purge' came about," Brink explains.
The end result is that when IN THIS MOMENT went into the studio in January 2023, the easy flow had allowed them to compile the most songs they'd ever written at one time, songs the entire band loved. Longtime producer Kevin Churko helped shape ITM's sound starting in 2008, but for "Godmode", his son, Kane Churko, was at the helm.
"Kane's got all the strengths that his father taught him —everything, all the bells and whistles, but he's got some new tricks because he's a younger generation, he's hungry," says Brink.
Kane was the perfect match for IN THIS MOMENT's inspired songs.
"During the pandemic, just writing versus writing with a pressure that music has to be for an album, allowed us the freedom to make the record we made," says Howorth. "Godmode"'s songs gained even more strength in the studio, with Kane shaking up the band's usual m.o. even further.
"Having some songs by Tyler influenced us as well," Brink explains. "It was scary for the band, but it ended up flowing just so beautifully. We felt very experimental."
That flow gave the album its name and theme. "Godmode" isn't religious, rather it's an expression for a triumphant flow state where all comes together seamlessly, coalescing into an ultimate form. As Brink sings in "Godmode", "You got me feeling so high / You lift me off of my feet yeah / You got me feeling like, feeling like / I'm in Godmode." In video games — Howorth plays the game "Destiny" — "God mode" also refers to a code that makes a player invincible.
"There's a spontaneity in this album that you can hear. It's a little more visceral. And that we're not with Kevin, who has done all our albums except for our very first, fans will hear those differences too, which is really cool and exciting for us," Howorth says.
"We had all this built-up energy from the last three years, we felt angst, we felt we had a lot to release," furthers Brink. "And we were letting it loose organically, while also playing with different time signatures and interesting things like that." "We use an 8-string on the album, which we haven't done before," Howorth says. "We did some different tunings, and it can definitely be freeing from guitar standpoint, the way we did things this time. Working with Kane was different and more off the cuff, being in the studio, getting creative and just trying a bunch of different stuff on every song. It was a really good experience."
As fans of Brink's lyrics know, life in and around IN THIS MOMENT hasn't always been easy. As Brink recalls, "When I met Chris, I was just a starry-eyed girl with huge dreams. And he was in a PANTERA-like metal band!" She told Howorth she wanted a heavy lineup that could sell platinum and win Grammys. The band had an early manager who told them it would never happen. But his dismissiveness only fueled IN THIS MOMENT's fire, energy and fight. "We're just relentless," says Brink. "Anything's possible if you really put your mind and energy into it."
For "Godmode", that energy also went into the "The Purge" video, where director Noen brought his artistry and next-level talent to Brink's storyboard ideas. The larger-than-life video themes and sets have been translated into IN THIS MOMENT's live stage show, literally. And summer 2023 saw the band on its first arena co-headlining tour with full pyrotechnics.
"Our whole lives we've talked about being in an arena and having fire and a full show," Brink says. "And now we're doing it and it's just so beautiful."
IN THIS MOMENT certainly have nothing to prove, the lineup's authority assured live on record and onscreen. Yet, "Godmode"'s energy and scope is visceral.
"With our new ideas and excitement and Kane's energy of wanting to prove himself to everybody, we were able to show that we're heavy and just as impactful as every other new band coming out right now," says Howorth. "We can punch you right in the face, that energy is in there big, time. I think our fans are really gonna like this album, because it's taken us back a little bit where it began, but it's also more instinctive, and heavier than anything we've done a long time," concludes Howorth.
Brink, a private person, nonetheless gives and takes much strength from ITM's millions of fans. The healing is on both sides.
"It's amazing if my songs help people feel empowered. When humans share painful things that we went through and how we heal from it, we can help each other and pass that energy on," she says. "Honestly, the most beautiful thing about being in a band is being able to have that connection with strangers who become kindred spirits. Sure, I have urges to wear 'masks' and hide from everything and wear makeup, but I like to share and be honest and vulnerable. The sky's the limit," Brink concludes. "You just have to keep dreaming, keep expanding, keep pushing yourself to that next level. I feel like something is shifting right now in the band; this is such a special moment for us with 'Godmode'."

TWANGSVILLE REVISITED: T. TEX EDWARDS FAMILY TREE?
https://twangsvillerevisited.blogspot.com/2021/12/t-tex-edwards-family-tree.html
THE NERVEBREAKERS
T. Tex Edwards is an unsung pioneer of cowpunk and honky tonk murder ballads who started out in the '70s with the punk band the Nervebreakers. Thom "Tex" Edwards' whiskey-soaked vocals already had a slight country twang to them back in 1978 even as the band performed their goofy anthems while supporting the Sex Pistols in Dallas. Drawing influence from the Flamin' Groovies and the Cramps rather than the more political end of the punk spectrum, the Nervebreakers were equally at home lampooning "You're The One That I Want" from Grease as they were playing it straight (relatively) with the Kinks' "I'm Not Like Everybody Else." Their original material was rousing and funny, and "My Girlfriend Is A Rock" was even a minor hit in San Francisco. The band never released a full-length record in their lifetime, even though they had an almost legendary local reputation. A live performance of them backing Roky Erickson at the Dallas Palladium in 1979 was released in 1992, and a posthumous CD recorded in 1980, We Want Everything!, was finally released by Get Hip in 2000.

A deluxe remastered reissue of 1978 original Wild Child Records single by badass Texas punk rock band the Nervebreakers! Like all Texas punk of the era, this is no letdown, including two smash hits on this 4-song EP. 01 - Politics 02 - My Life Is Ruined 03 - I Can't Help You 04 - My Girlfriend Is A Rock 320k 34.4 Mb DOWNLOAD LINK
02 - [1980] We Want Everything! (2000 Reissue)
Tumblr media
Hailing from Dallas, TX, the Nervebreakers first got together in 1973 but didn’t take off until the mid-’70s punk movement started to affect most larger urban areas of the US. The Nervebreakers quickly rose to the top of the pack in Dallas releasing three singles which are now hard to find. This CD was recorded in 1980 and was to have been their debut LP. 01 - The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly 02 - My Girlfriend Is A Rock 03 - Girls Girls Girls Girls Girls 04 - I Confess 05 - I Don't Believe In Anything 06 - I've Got A Problem 07 - How Can You Tell 08 - Strange Movies 09 - Let's Fall Apart 10 - What's Left Of Me 11 - The Race Is On 12 - Stand Up 320k 77.5 Mb DOWNLOAD LINK
03 - [1981] Girls Girls Girls Girls 7" (2011 Reissue)
Tumblr media
On 19 November 1980 the Nervebreakers won the "Agora's Battle Of The Bands" in Dallas TX. Their prize was free recording time at Pantego Sound Studios in Arlington, TX where these two songs were recorded. The single was originally released in 1981 on Wild Child Records, but by then the band had already parted company. Great single by Dallas 70's Punk-rock band! A-side is a catchy original track and is backed with a cool cover of a Rolling Stones classic marked with the Nervebreakers snotty style. 01 - Girls Girls Girls Girls 02 - I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys 320k 13.9 Mb DOWNLOAD LINK
04 - [2000] Hijack The Radio! (2017 Reissue)
Tumblr media
An anthology of mid to late '70s studio recordings, some of which ended up on the Nervebreakers' late-70s 7″ vinyl releases on Wild Child Records, some on the 1979 Texas punk LP compilation Are We Too Late For The Trend? (ESR Records), some on a volume of Italian label Rave Up Records series of American Lost Punk Rock Nuggets, and others that have up-to-now never been publicly released. Includes the original (and best) hit recording of “My Girlfriend Is A Rock”, the title anthem “Hijack The Radio!”, and punk classics like ”Why Am I So Flipped?”, “I Wanna Kill You”, and “I Love Your Neurosis”. Also included are proto-punk psych-y gems like “My Life Is Ruined” and “Beyond The Borderline”. The CD release has four additional CD-only bonus cuts including an early (different from the We Want Everything LP) take on the Troggs' great “Strange Movies”, an original 1977 demo version of “Hijack The Radio”, and from 1975, a moody slice of Syd Barrett-like proto-punk-psych called “See Me Thru”. 01 - Hijack The Radio! 02 - My Girlfriend Is A Rock 03 - Why Am I So Flipped? 04 - My Life Is Ruined 05 - I Love Your Neurosis 06 - Everything Right 07 - Missa Moses 08 - So Sorry 09 - I Wanna Kill You 10 - It's Too Late 11 - Beyond The Borderline 12 - Part Of My Love 13 - See Me Thru 14 - Strange Movies 15 - Hijack The Radio! ROKY ERICKSON & THE NERVEBREAKERS
Despite possessing great talents and a voice that can squeeze emotion from a stone if necessary, Roky Erickson's life and music career have been a mess; he was one of many casualties of the psychedelic '60s. So it's always a joy when another Erickson tape is discovered and the quality is superior. Erickson is in fine form for this 1979 Dallas gig with the Nervebreakers. The musicians are tight and focused as they run through classics such as "Starry Eyes," "Cold Night For Alligators," "You're Gonna Miss Me," and "Two-Headed Dog." The sound quality is sharp and far less challenging than the bootleg quality of Live at the Ritz 1987. Most exciting is the material. The obvious favorites are here, but so are "The Wind And More," "Mine Mine Mind," "Bermuda," and "White Faces," tunes he recorded with The Aliens. They're done with high spirits and some inspired guitar playing.

T. TEX EDWARDS & OUT ON PAROLE
Edwards' first post-Nervebreakers outfit, Tex & The Saddle Tramps, left scarce but vital documentation, such as the churlish rocker "Move It!" that later would appear on The Loafin' Hyenas record and be covered by LeRoi Brothers. Still most of the T. Tex legend from the early to mid-'80s remains only in the recollections of those fortunate enough to catch him performing his offbeat brand of incorrigible country live. His growling redneck delivery is at times unhinged, but it's instantly recognizable, highly addictive, and consistently manages to hit the narrow margin between parody and reverence, often accomplishing both. He formed Out On Parole in Austin in 1984, and The Loafin' Hyenas in Hollywood in 1986, but it took until 1989 before things finally started moving forward. His first solo album -- as Tex Edwards & Out on Parole -- was a stroke of demented genius that caused a stir when cult label Sympathy for the Record Industry released it yet proved more an inspiration than the chart-topper it should have been. Pardon Me, I've Got Someone to Kill was a collection of "psycho-country" covers done with a relatively straight face and high musical pedigree -- LeRoi Brothers/Fabulous Thunderbirds alumni Mike Buck was the driving force behind the album. It's not only Johnny Cash who wrote dark country and western songs of adultery and murder; Pardon Me collects obscure, nutty gems from the likes of Johnny Paycheck (the title song), Porter Wagoner ("Rubber Room"), and Lee Hazlewood ("Girl on Death Row"), not to mention the twisted genius of Leon Payne's "Psycho." The same ground would be covered in the following decade, sometimes with song selections oddly similar to Pardon Me, but rarely with the same gravelly brilliance.

THE LOAFIN' HYENAS
The 1991 release of The Loafin' Hyenas' only LP was mostly ignored despite strong original material and another killer band. Songs like "Can't Find The Doorknob" and "Scratchin' Fleas" utilized Tex's distinctive vocals perfectly, and the drunken abandon of the band was captured, bottled, and released only in France and Japan. Further recordings followed under various guises and numerous small labels. T. Tex And The Big "D" Ramblers, DisGraceland, and T. Tex And The Sickoids were a few that made it to record, and one-off projects like 1999's 18-song Texicated Tape were mostly circulated among the faithful.

T. TEX EDWARDS & THE SWINGIN' KORNFLAKE KILLERS
After a long silence, the full-length Up Against the Floor was released in 1996. The Swingin' Kornflake Killers backed a slightly toned-down Edwards on a selection of offbeat covers (David Bowie's "Black Country Rock" and Conway Twitty's "Lonely Blue Boy") as well as equally memorable originals like the instant standard "Ain't No Bars In Heaven." A while later the Nervebreakers announced they were regrouping after their "slight" 27-year hiatus. T. Tumblr media
T. Tex Edwards "remains a pioneering, under-appreciated, and often neglected chronicler of the offbeat and eccentric traditions of country rock 'n' roll," notes All Music Guide. Intexicated! remedies any neglect of this wild and wooly Texas musical treasure with 19 collected odds, sods, unreleased recordings, demos, outtakes and offbeat gems from throughout his distinctively different musical career spent kicking up some seriously cool and twisted dust from the roots rocking underground. Featuring work under his own name as well as such T. Tex outfits as The Loafin' Hyenas, Tex & The Saddle Tramps and The Swingin' Cornflake Killers are such top T. Tex moments as renditions of Psycho and Lee Harvey, his classic Move It (also recorded by The LeRoi Brothers), takes on Dave Davies' Kinks hit Death Of A Clown and Baby's Got A Gun by The Only Ones, and to wrap it all up, a demo of a commercial Tex cut for the Chili's restaurant chain. It's an intexicating collection from an artist of uncommonly cool off-kilter brilliance. 01 - The Big D Ramblers - Intexicated! Sound Bites Presents His Favorite Live Albums of 2022
Neil Young used “Union Man” to declare: live music is better.
That can sometimes apply to albums as well. And the year almost over featured a slew of terrific in-concert recordings.
What follows are Sound Bites’ favorites, going all the way back to Son House in 1964 and coming all the way up to Aoife O’Donovan in 2022.
The Beatles - Get Back - The Rooftop Performance - The 40-minute concert - remixed in stereo by Giles Martin and Sam Okell - is finally out as the digital-only Get Back - The Rooftop Performance. And though the Beatles had spent the previous few years proving themselves masters of the studio with LPs like Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Rooftop provides a glimpse of what a force they could’ve become as a live act. Full review here.
Aoife O’Donovan and the Age of Apathy Band - Live from the Hi•Fi - When O’Donovan says “We’re on fire up here,” after she and the Age of Apathy Band finish “Elevators,” she is referring to the weather. But she might as well have been talking about the music. Review.
The Jerry Garcia Band - GarciaLive Volume 19 - To call the Oct. 31, 1992, concert that comprises GarciaLive Volume 19 life-affirming is an understatement along the lines of saying Jerry Garcia enjoyed drugs. Review.
Todd Snider - Live: Return of the Storyteller - Few live albums - including 2011’s Live: The Storyteller - capture the essence of a performer the way Return of the Storyteller captures the essence of Todd Snider. Review.
Hot Tuna - 2021-12-29, Freight & Salvage, Berkeley, CA - This album is beautiful for many reasons. Not only because of the low-key, American-blues music, but because of the deep bonds of friendship between the players and the invisible thread that runs from the stage to the seating area and back. Review.
Creedence Clearwater Revival - At the Royal Albert Hall (April 14, 1970) - Fifty years after their breakup, Creedence Clearwater Revival remain so ubiquitous they - and their music - are often taken for granted. But as At the Royal Albert Hall reminds us, the band had not only a passel of stone classics, it was an outstanding concert act. Review.
Neil Young OBS 3: Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971, and OBS 4: Royce Hall, 1971 - Recorded two nights apart in 1971 and released on the same day in 2022, Neil Young’s Official Bootleg Series Nos. 3 and 4 are very much the same - from setlists to warm, you-are-there sound. They’re aural time machines to the days when Young’s songbook was relatively thin and virtually no one had heard “Old Man.” Reviews.
Son House - Forever on My Mind - Only 50 or so people attended Son House’s Nov. 23, 1964, concert at Wabash College in Indiana. Although virtually one heard it at the time, everyone can hear it now. And they should. Review.
Grateful Dead - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, 3/9/81 - Cocaine as rocket fuel. Review.
Zero - Naught Again - Despite the paucity of vocals and the long runtimes, these songs are intricately composed with tension and release where choruses and bridges would otherwise dwell. The tuned-in audience reacts accordingly and the result is an album that damn near succeeds in time travel and space-shifting. Review.
Mavis Staples and Levon Helm - Carry Me Home - Carry Me Home is at its core a religious album that doesn’t require religious ears for enjoyment. Yet, it’s so convincing, those ears may be halfway to the baptismal before the stylus hits the runout groove. Review.
Kris Kristofferson - Live at Gilley’s - Pasadena, TX: September 15, 1981 - Fans who weren’t there can now kinda be there with the release of Live at Gilley’s. The partial-show LP has just enough crowd noise to capture the excitement of the evening and the music proves Kristofferson was one of the rare artists not to fall victim to 1980s production and arrangement values. Review.

Mr. Gnome presents: Not This Time, Devil
Devil go home !
Tumblr media
Pushing the limits of sonic exploration, Cleveland art-rock duo, Mr. Gnome, create a living, breathing realm of psychedelic orchestration on their eagerly anticipated LP, A Sliver of Space, set to be released this Friday, September 27th on El Marko Records.
The singles leading up to release have showed the band's shapeshifting prowess across different moods and genres. From the monstrous-sounding "Fader," to the hypnotic gaze of "Nothing and Everything," to the calming and celestial "Mind's Gone," Nicole Barille and Sam Meister continue to create unique worlds that play a larger role in the universe of A Sliver of Space.
youtube
Mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Interpol, Tennis, Temples, Panic at the Disco, Parquet Courts, Ra Ra Riot), A Sliver of Space explodes with hypnotic, gritty rock anthems that suddenly give way to long-form, drug-fueled journeys that transport the listener on a surreal trip from start to finish.

Wishy Announces Third Single 'Sick Sweet' Ahead of Highly Anticipated Debut LP 'Triple Seven'
Tumblr media
In just over a month, Wishy will release their debut LP, *Triple Seven*, an album poised to be one of the year's most anticipated debuts. Following their 2023 *Paradise* EP, which garnered critical acclaim from outlets like Pitchfork, the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Stereogum, the album (out August 16th on Winspear) has already spawned two singles, "Love On The Outside" and the title track "Triple Seven," both receiving high praise from the press. In June, the band announced an extensive fall tour across the US, UK, and EU, featuring dates with American Football and Guided By Voices, as well as appearances at Pitchfork London and Hopscotch. Today, they are sharing a third single from their LP, a track titled "Sick Sweet." Triple Seven is a vibrant blend of alternative music history, featuring elements of shoegaze, grunge, and power-pop. While their debut EP leaned heavily into dream pop and shoegaze, band leaders Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites aimed for a louder, more aggressive, and fun sound on their LP, Wishy. This evolution is evident in the dynamic alt rock track "Sick Sweet," their heaviest release yet, which strikes a balance between raucous energy and Krauter's penchant for blissfully hazy melodic pop. Krauter explains: "This song is about wanting something or someone despite doubts or misgivings, and laying it all on the line to see it through. I was inspired by an Oasis interview where Liam Gallagher talked about his lyrics being about 'just living life' and 'just going for it.' That’s the energy I put into this song." The track is accompanied by a music video directed by Nate Kahn, who captured vignettes of the band during their recent tour with Narrow Head, including their off day at the beach in Florida. Full details of Wishy's upcoming tour dates can be found below. Note
1, 3, 8, 12, & 14
1) Name a film that haunts you? i'm going to cheat and give you three! -poltergeist - originally rated R, it got bumped down to PG (spielberg basically forced the mpaa to add PG-13 between this and indiana jones lol) but it's RIDICULOUS how scary this movie is (bonus: poltergeist 3 - hey, how about fuck mirrors) -the poughkeepsie tapes - not QUITE as fucked up as i remembered it being but some of the imagery here is just wildly haunting and discomfiting -megan is missing - you do NOT want to watch this movie. a found footage that feels even grosser than something like the last house on the left. truly wretched
3) What places do you feel most drawn to? i've always really wanted to live in new england! as i get older and maybe eventually tire of the snow and ice i think i'm going to find myself moving to arizona. there's something about the american southwest that's really special and weird (see movies like paris, texas; into the wild; easy rider)
8) Are there any genres of music or film that feel like home or create a sense of nostalgia for you? SO much. going back to into the wild, you HAVE to listen to the soundtrack by eddie vedder. hot hot heat's elevator is still a super comforting record for me, modest mouse's first four lps are phenomenal, and i always love some good 60s folk protest music. similarly, i love 2000s/2010s dramas about people who feel lost or out of touch. yeah, they're sad but they but they always helped me figure out how i feel about things. andrew haigh's weekend, blue valentine, little miss sunshine, again into the wild. those really captured a certain post-9/11 american consciousness
12) What role in a cast or crew appeals to you the most? i know there's some pushback on director focus but i LOVE to see a director's voice come across in a movie. especially when the director also wrote the picture, it's fun to encounter a scene or dialog and think "oh, yeah, of course you put that in here you nerd" lol. like obviously movies are HUGE projects that take tons of folks but generally a director (in the kinds of movies i like) gets to pick who they're working with so they choose a team that they gel with and who can have a shared vision. i'm also always interested to see how the director and cinematographer work together (Paweł Pawlikowski/Łukasz Żal now kiss). also - love to see brad pitt in a movie :p
14) What does the perfect day look like? ooo, so if i get to choose EVERYTHING, it's a crisp autumn day, the trees have changed, it's dewy out and the leaves are crunchy. waking up to a nice morning cuddle, then getting up and groggily walking either to a diner or to grab coffee and doughnuts, probably doing the day's crossword while we're waiting for our food. i think going out to the record store and movie store would be next, poke around, pick up a couple of things, chat with the clerks for a bit. because breakfast would've been at like 6:30 or 7 lol lunch, again either a diner or making something yummy at home. i think a chill afternoon or reading and listening to records, then the evening would either be a movie date night and pizza or going out to a bar with friends. i miss nights where i'd get to go meet friends at like 9 and hang out like our local spot and get kinda shitty without worrying about the next day! college station, tx had (?) a really cool bar scene and on my ideal day i get to imagine living someplace with something similar :p

Tumblr media
The Jonas Brothers are going on tour. Five Albums. One Night. is billed as the pop rock trio's most ambitious release to date. The Tour begins in August with two shows at New York City's Yankee Stadium. Oakland, CA -- Tanukichan (the project of Hannah van Loon) will be releasing their sophomore LP GIZMO on March 3 via Company Records. Last week, they shared their newest single “Thin Air (feat. Enumclaw),” a hazy indie pop rock track that spans 3.5 minutes long. The track has the fuzzy 90s alt rock sound with its lush instrumental and dreamy vocals, submerging listeners deep into Tanukichan’s world. From the numbing guitars to the introspective lyrics, “Thin Air” delves into the paralyzing uncertainty and conflict of relationships.
"This song is about exes, some people that I really cared about but ultimately didn’t want to be with," van Loon explains. "The sadness I feel when I’m hurting someone, and missing them and knowing you won’t ever have that closeness again. It’s about how important they are and how much they’ve taught me, or helped me, but how I also know that people come and go. The chorus has a double meaning for me where I feel like I can’t prioritize relationships because I need to keep on focusing on myself. The other is feeling like I’m broken and keep ending up with the wrong people, and hurting them."
