Artie's Jeweler's Case with Secret Compartment
“Intelligence operatives are known for having the most advanced communications equipment in existence. This is especially true of fictional agents, since the imagination of writers and prop designers knows no bounds.
In The Wild Wild West, set in the 1870s, agents West and Gordon are limited to the technology that existed at that time. Consequently, their communications with Washington and each other were accomplished via telegraph, courier, and carrier pigeon.
A compartment in West’s train provided their pigeons—Henry, Henrietta, Anabella, and Arabella—with a means for discreet arrivals and departures. Communication from the field, however, required a creative solution, which Artemus fashioned into a disguise. Working undercover as a jeweler, Artie carried a large sample case that held numerous drawers filled with fine gems. Unbeknownst to the common observer, the rear of the case was fitted with a camouflaged door leading to a secret compartment. Inside was a carrier pigeon, available at a moment’s notice to deliver an urgent note to Jim, back at the train.
This jeweler’s case is one of the few, if not the only, surviving props used by Artemus Gordon while in disguise during an assignment. The fact that it also functioned as a secret device makes it an even more significant piece of ‘60s-era spy history.”
— "The Incredible World of Spy-Fi" by Danny Biederman (2004)

Oh look it’s the clip from this show that made me 1000000 times gayer that got me to fully hyperfixate on the notion that these two are probably fucking this show!
I MEAN
Just LOOK AT THEM
The soft lil “come on buddy”
The absolutely unwavering faith Artemus has in Jim that he’s not even phased to find that Jim is hovering over him when he wakes up? UGH
LOOK AT THEMMM 💕

"The Night of the Declaration" part 3
(3) Kensington Manor was not just grand, it was palatial, appearing on the horizon a good mile before the carriage reached the impressive stone gateposts.
“I’ve seen some remarkable homes in my time,” Artie ventured, “but this is indeed stately!” He poked his head out the window and admired the view.
“It has all the mod-cons you can imagine, and maybe some you can’t.” Leroy responded, not trying to hide the pride in his voice. “Mr Fortescue is a true Victorian innovator, and has engineered many things here to run on steam power. He studied the famous British engineer Kingdom Brunel’s work and created some useful devices for the property and the town generally. I’m confident you’ll find it very amenable here, gentlemen.” Jim and Artie smiled hopefully at one another.
The carriage pulled in through the massive wrought iron gates and travelled along a neat, paved drive, coming to a halt under a generous porte cochere, where they all alighted, watching as the carriage disappeared along the rest of the drive and away around the building. Jim and Artie cast observant eyes over it, noticing the teal paintwork and polished brass fittings shining in the sunlight.
“That was sure a cushy fit-out,” Artie said quietly to Jim. “We might have to have a chat to the upholsterers about the train!”
“Don’t get your hopes up,” Jim grinned. “I can’t see the Prez springing for new sofas just yet.”
“Pity,” Artie said, nodding ruefully. “Anyway, let’s see what all this is about.” They followed Leroy Wyatt in through a grand entrance and looked about them appreciatively. They had, in their travels all about the United States, seen some ostentatious, indeed spectacular, displays of wealth in people’s residences and embassies, but found themselves instead entering a space that lacked the dazzling glitz and glamour of those flashy places, favouring in contrast unpretentious good taste and refinement, from the wall colours to the window treatments, the light sconces to the floor coverings. It was all very understated, but neither of them missed the quality in everything around them. There was an atmosphere of reverential quiet, yet both felt that activity was going on just out of sight.
“Feels quite restful in here, wouldn’t you say, Artie?” Jim asked, turning about to get the measure of the place. “I could easily spend time here.”
“I’m not normally one for atmosphere, Jim, I’m sure you know, but yes…it does feel like a nice place, a bit like coming home.” He nodded as his eyes took in the paintings and furniture in the spacious entrance hall. Doorways led off in all directions. A figure appeared at the one farthest from the entrance doors, and both Jim and Artie stopped their admiring to address the older gentleman approaching them with his hand outstretched.
“Welcome gentlemen, to Kensington Manor. I’m so pleased to have you here. I’m Fortescue Weston. How do you do.” His handshake, when he gripped Jim’s hand, was firm, which matched the upright appearance of its owner, and Jim noted with surprise that Mr Fortescue Weston appeared much younger than he’d imagined. Artie, too, showed surprise on his face as he shook hands in greeting.
“Ah, I see, young man, “Mr Fortescue said, turning to speak to Jim, “you seem taken aback by my appearance. Perhaps you thought I was as grizzled as our mutual friend President Grant…?” Before either of the two agents could answer, Mr Weston turned to Leroy Wyatt.
“Leroy, could you please ask Cook to have the afternoon tea sent to my office? I’ll take our guests there and fill them in. Thank you.” Leroy nodded and left the hall. Mr Weston in his turn indicated a different doorway and led the way along a wide and tastefully decorated corridor to a large and sunny office, and pointed to easy chairs near the window, away from the substantial desk along one wall.

favorite thing(s) you've learned from west wing weekly
oooh this is a fun ask, because I've been losing my mind over this podcast...
Apparently one Christmas after Josh Malina joined the show, the cast gifts for Christmas were bikes (West Wing branded bikes apparently) and Josh gave his to Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The Foul Game (trying to bump each other during a scene like getting a foul in basketball) until Thomas Schlamme made them stop - the worst perpetrators of the Foul Game were apparently Dulé and Allison.
(more under the cut because this podcast has made me crazy)
There are apparently two origin stories for the NSC card subplot in Crackpots; one is that Aaron heard about it from George Stephanopoulos, and that George was unhappy that he'd gotten one but other people he knew hadn't. The other (and one I like better) is that he heard about the NSC card from George, and then asked Dee Dee Myers and she'd said there was no such thing.
Abbey's dress in State Dinner was apparently called the "Cleavage Dress" and got a lot of backlash (which is ironic to me, because her dress in, say, The Wedding, is WAY more revealing...)
Apparently the CJ locked out of the loop subplot was also allegedly based on something that happened to Dee Dee.

People being on Silver's case about going to speak to Ame during downtime in the village, I feel like, are missing a big important piece of context, which is that the majority of these soldiers are a part of his unit. Now, he seems perfectly happy to let Sky give orders, because she's part of the Citadel. She's in the command structure. But he's well within bounds to express his disapproval, and the reasons for it, to Ame.
The truth of the matter here is that, while Silver and his unit are grateful for her help, and rightly so, she is ultimately a guest among these people. If they don't want her offering 'suggestions' to soldiers piled on top of orders, then the CO of the unit is is absolutely right to express that.
Now, I think I know why people don't seem to want to think that deeply about characters from the Citadel and what they think and why they do the things they do. But I promise you that if your analysis boils down to 'He did this because he felt like Ame embarrassed Suvi,' you're not giving him enough credit.

Ok I’ve been thinking about this recently as I finish yet ANOTHER reread of TWWW universe. I know you’ve moved onto other storylines (which I also love)
Buuuut…. Would you consider doing a wedding one shot for these two? And maybe… just MAYBE a pregnancy one for those of us who chose that ending in our heads? LOL
Omg you flatter me ☺️ I'm so happy you liked those stories so much.
I'm not opposed to the idea! I haven't really felt any inspiration for those two lately so I don't have a plan in the near future to write anything for them, but that doesn't mean I won't wake up tomorrow with some brain rot 🤣

Jim West's Suit
"Robert Conrad’s finely tailored Suits, featuring the smart-looking bolero jacket and colorful vest, were an important aspect of James West’s character. The fact that President Grant recruited West to serve as his agent in the field meant maintaining a convincing cover. So the government set him up to be a fancy, high-living gentleman from the East, who traveled the country at his leisure in his private railroad car. West’s classy attire went a long way toward establishing this image.
"The jacket also served a practical function: Hidden behind the left lapel was a small pocket in which West kept a picklock, and at the back of the jacket was another pocket that held a throwing knife. This jacket, along with its hidden devices, was used throughout the series.
The tight-fitting pants that matched West’s jacket posed a special problem on the series due to the extensive stunt work performed by Conrad. 'My pants, which were designed by a woman, were always splitting because they were too tight,” recalled Conrad. “They were always saying, "Okay, how many pairs of pants is he going to go through today?"'
"The seat of Conrad’s trousers bears the scars of needlework repairs—a fitting testament to the daily rough-and-tumble activities of the wild, wild West."
