Prompt: Buck and Tommy out on a date and run into Tommy's ex

heheheh! have I been sitting on an idea based on a song about running into an ex for yearssssss and now I finally get to use it for you?! yesss yes I have--ENJOY <3

It never fails that something comes along and throws a wrench in every single date Buck and Tommy try to go on. If it’s not work keeping them dancing around each other's availability, it’s other responsibilities that have them preoccupied. Then—on the rare occasion they actually do get to go out together—it’s the fact they are apparently two of the most popular men in all of LA and always seem to run into someone who wants to stop and converse for far too long; stealing their precious time and often killing the mood. 

This time though… that someone isn’t an old friend, or even a current one… It is an ex. Tommy’s ex. The ex that was Tommy’s first big love. The ex that broke his heart. 

The ex that Buck, regardless of how many times he tells himself… and how many times he has been told by everyone else that it’s not the case, has felt like he’s in a competition with. 

Ethan.

(Come on, their names are even similar.) 

“Tommy,” Ethan says, and what the fuck is that voice? It’s so deep it makes Buck’s chest rumble, so suave, so ethereal… Tommy’s probably already melting beside him. 

He dares to take a peek and Tommy is surprisingly unbothered. He hasn’t even looked up from the menu where he has been trying to decide on the steak or the salmon. (Both are amazing… it’s a tough decision… that’s not the point.) “Hmm,” Tommy hums and finally lifts his head. “Oh. Hey, Ethan.” 

“Hey yourself,” Ethan says, his eyes dragging over Tommy’s body, hungrily. He stops just shy of Tommy’s chair, and turns his attention to Buck. He smiles, teeth brightly flashing at him… like a wolf. “Who’s this?” 

You’re replacement, Buck thinks, sourly. 

“This is Evan. My boyfriend,” Tommy says. He smiles across the table at Buck, and amidst the jealousy raging inside him Buck’s heart flutters; he can feel the blush creeping across his face. “And we’re actually on a date, so—” He spares none of the fondness from the smile he gives Buck as he turns back to Ethan, face now cold and distant. Buck wonders if the offended look that crosses Ethan’s face is his imagination or if it is really there. “If you don’t mind,” Tommy continues. 

Ethan’s face slowly shifts into a sarcastic smirk. “Oh yeah, don’t let me interrupt,” he says, waving his hand back and forth between them. “You two have fun… I’ll see you around.” 

“MmmHmm,” Tommy doesn’t even bother looking at Ethan again, as he turns to walk away. His eyes are instead fixed on Buck, and Buck wonders if he looks as jealous as he still very much feels. “You okay?” 

Buck tries to play it off. He scoffs, shrugs, takes a sip of his drink. “Yeah,” he says as nonchalantly as he can muster. 

“Evan,” Tommy sighs. 

“So—so that was Ethan,” Buck says. 

Tommy gives him that look. He sighs again. “Yeah, that was Ethan.” 

“He— uh— he seems very confident… with himself, and, uh—”

“Arrogant?” Buck shrugs, picks at the coaster under his glass of water. “You know there’s a reason I left him, Evan.” Buck hums, not looking up. “Hey,” Tommy says, reaching over to take his hands. “There is no competition here, okay? So stop trying to make it one.”

“I— I know,” Buck sighs. He does know… but— “But you loved him…” he says, annoyed at how small his voice comes out. 

“Not like I love you…” Tommy says. “His confidence is nothing compared to your heart; it’s nothing compared to your bravery, and your wit, and your ability to name off a hundred random facts about any given thing.” Buck tries to fight the smile tugging at his lips. “There is no competition because you are so far out of his league it wouldn’t even be a fair race. He would never even stand a chance.” 

“Yeah?” 

“Yeah!” Tommy smiles, uses his hold on Bucks hands to pull his forward across the table, so he can lean in and press their lips together. “Mmm,” he hums as he pulls back, eyes still closed like he’s savoring some great delicacy. “It’s not even close.”

Buck can feel his cheeks heating up again. He smiles into another kiss, feeling himself finally let go of that jealousy. (And if he can also feel Ethan’s eyes burning into him as Tommy deepens the kiss, just a bit, well that’s just part of his victory.)

Thanks so much for the asks! I literally cannot get enough of talking about my lil blorbos. I don't give Dorothy (NV) half as much attention as I give Gwenora (4), so it's nice to talk about her.

3 - Melee, guns, energy weapons, or unarmed?

As for me personally: Guns all the wayyyyyyyy. Idk what it is about NV, but I love the guns. Maybe it's because of the cowboy repeaters, varment rifles, and magnums. Really gives it that western feel. Also, the sniper rifles were good as hell. But as for my headcanon courier, she prefers her magnum. It was a gift and has a lot of significance, too.

9 - Gender / sexuality / ethnicity / species / etc.?

My courier, Dorothy Vargas, is female and is canonically bisexual, though she doesn't discuss this much. She grew up in the Casa Madrid apartments where there were cheap prostitutes, and she didn't have any real role models for half of her life. Sex, booze, chems, cigarettes, and gambling kind of became a part of her life, and she experimented with everything in her teens and early twenties, including her violent tendencies. She doesn't talk about her sexual activities a lot, but she has been known to flirt her way through situations where she knew violence wouldn't do the trick regardless of gender. She winds up with Boone, though, because even though they only teamed up to kick Legion ass together, she found that she really enjoyed someone caring about her well-being. Who she is romantically interested in has a lot to do with her trauma. Boone treats her juuuuuust right, you know? Not too nice, but not too mean lol. As for ethnicity, she has a heavily Western-American lineage. However, she doesn't know much about her family history, so it's a bit of an unknown for her. Fun fact: Manny Vargas is her brother, who was separated from her when she was 7 and he was 12.

17 - What's their reputation with the Khans / the Brotherhood / the Boomers / the Powder Gangers?

In my FF, Dorothy is a sort of special agent for the NCR. Thanks to Boone guilt-tripping her into doing "the right thing," she decides against siding with Yes Man and taking over Vegas. Instead, she joins up with the NCR, and let's just say that Colonel Moore has it out for her. Sending her on high-risk missions alone and cramming bouts of rigorous training in as few days as possible are two such ways the Colonel likes to remind Dorothy that she works for her now. And since she was sent on quests like this alone, she always tried not to chance eradicating everyone, so she worked on her diplomacy here. She talked the Khans into leaving, she talked the Brotherhood into a truce with the NCR, she left Yes Man in the care of Swank, and she conscripted the Boomers' help for the war. For the most part, she tends to completely ignore the Powder Gangers unless they give her trouble on the road, but she kills Legion scum on sight.

45 - What do they do after hoover dam?

I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't actually written this part yet, even though I've been "working" on this fanfiction for yearssssss. I feel like I'm literally going to melt just talking about this because I am so ashamed lol. But the plan for Dorothy after Hoover Dam is: Colonel Moore offers Dorothy anything she wants as thanks and as an apology of sorts for doubting her during her enlistment, and she really pulled through for the NCR. So Dorothy asks her to cancel the rest of her and Boone's 2-year enlistment term. Colonel Moore was very hesitant to adhere to Dorothy's terms, but an agreement is an agreement. So she let Boone and Dorothy go. On paper it's listed as "honorable discharge." Moore mostly agreed to Dorothy's terms because of Dorothy's pregnancy, though. She and Boone basically travel through the Mojave in search of a place to settle down. And funnily enough, she does run into Benny again, but he's in a t-shirt and overalls, scraping the dry ground with a hoe, trying to learn how to grow his own crops, the poor bastard. Dorothy stops, smiles, gives him the platinum chip, and continues traveling with Boone without so much as a word to Benny. (Book ends with Benny smiling and his favorite quote, "Ring-a-ding.") Pray that I finish this damn book, it haunts me lol.

oh my god, I am still getting to know these two (they're bf and gf rn and in game i didnt cheat their romance or anything, i spent the first day playing w. them to get their relationship up) Just by personality alone, I feel like Nico would break up with Rosemary (that would never happen....i hope) just because he is more forward with his feelings and emotions. Rosemary is more on the quiet side and shes also an insecure sim.

so if rosemary got broken up with, she'd be utterly heartbroken. Nico is her high school sweetheart. [They've known each other for yearssssss they only officially started dating their senior year of high school. I picture her just laying in bed crying, every morning. Break ups suck and it sucks more when the person you were with for so long was also a friend so its like a double breakup. a friendship and relationship down the drain. You see this person everyday, u wake up next to them, you welcome them back home after work with a kiss and then suddenly, all of that is gone. She would blame herself for the breakup. She'd say to herself " i wasnt good enough for him" which isnt true, but she has the insecure trait so shed believe that.

at some point, she'd get back on her feet. Cut her hair, dye it, maybe try a new style and also put those emotions into her art (shes an elementary school art teacher). Spend time doing things she loves, visit her family's farm in hengford-on-bagley. Just accept change and adapt to her new routine.

my friend and i were smack talking each other and he recently got a work related injury thats left him unemployed and will likely leave him in need of surgery to fix, which might never happen, so he started saying (jokingly, all of this is a bit) "i cant believe youd say that to a cr*pple... i thought you were better than this" w that somber emoji face. This whole time weve been jabbing at each other and its been very fun. But this, this is something. Hes trying to make a point that hes oppressed but not as oppressed as me, because he is white. This is hilarious for a number of reasons. One, he has seen me. I am white. Blue eyes strawberry blonde white. Hilariously white. So white that during highschool i had to routinely turn my wrists up and sunbathe so that the undersides of my arms would tan because they would reflect light so brightly into my eyes that (not kidding) it gave me migraines. Half my family is redheads.

I know a lot of jewish people that support palestine. Talking about Israel is not anti sematism, saying that every jewish person is a zionist IS anti semitic.

The media tries to jump and say very loudly that "these people [who support palestine] hate jewish people" and that's a way of passing arouns fake news and installing fear among people. They don't want conversations about the topic to start and everyone understanding each other.

Also, the media and hollywood spent yearssssss mocking and hating jews and now everyone loves jews, how convenient.

Exactly, and like I have to be real; it was clearer to me with American media than Australian media. Like when this first hit mainstream news, I was on my Disney cruise (which yes, I recognise also has its own vested interest in this) and every single news story on it was about Hamas' victims. Not a word was said about the state of Israel's wrongdoings or interviews with the families wronged by them for the full two weeks I was there. Nor were there any stories about pro Palestinian protests. Thankfully for me I had enough knowledge on related history to understand/know something was off, but like I also get people falling for that in the early days (now not so much, especially those online because too much has come out negating that). It wasn't until I got back to Australia that I started seeing pro Palestinian stories (I want to emphasis that I did not have internet on this cruise so yes I probably would have seen it earlier in normal conditions) and that most people did not agree with governments backing Israel.

As for Hollywood/the media changing its tune, yeah it's transparent as all hell and I saw a post a few days ago how Jewish people (and Asians) are often not treated in the same racist way as Black people and instead propped up as "model citizens" who are either no longer oppressed and/or as a way to divide minorities with a "well (using small but well known sample of Jewish people here) is doing well in society, why can't you?" while also telling white people that they're doing well because they've taken over (again, trying to indicate that they are not oppressed) and yeah it's true. Like as you implied, they don't actually give a shit about Jewish people, they just want a scapegoat.
