"I'VE GOT THE MONITORS UP AS FAR AS THEY CAN GO! BUT THEY'RE NOT MAKING ANY SOUND!"
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on Lou, Moe, Sterling and Doug of American rock band, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, crowded in a corner of TTG Studios in Los Angeles, CA, playing together in late 1968, rehearsing/ recording for their eponymously titled third album. 📸: Sandy Schor.
EXTRA INFO: Photos from the VU book, “I Met Myself in a Dream…That’s the Story of the Third Album," featuring 184 photos taken by Sandy Schor of the band in and around the Los Angeles studio, Nov 6th and Nov 8th of 1968, as well as many other things related to their third record.
"These pictures give you a real sense of how THE VELVET UNDERGROUND recorded their self titled third album. The studio was large, they had room to spread out, but they chose to huddle close, creating music so quiet the engineer was reported to say “I've got the monitors up as far as they can go, but they're not making any sound!” These were songs the Velvets had recently honed on the road. As Doug put it:
"Essentially, all those songs were already being played. The album itself, when it was recorded, was done basically as a live album. All four of us played together for the tracks and then we went back and overdubbed the vocals and any solos ... It was very organic. One of the reasons it has that particular sound is that it was just pulled out of the band while it was touring, and so it wasn't a lot of time to over-think it. It was just played.""

7 years have passed since Samurai Jack got back to the past...
Highlights of events regarding Genndy Tartakovsky and the like during this time include the following:
Genndy in interviews talked about the importance of visual storytelling (including an obvious disliking for "This is me"-type openings in animated movies), reducing dialogue in the script for a sexual animated comedy called Fixed (produced by New Line Cinema, Sony Pictures Animation, and Renegade Animation), and the viewpoint that "Character design informs posing, and it all works together."
Samurai Jack has the Checkered Past lineup on [adult swim] joined, airing on Fridays (soon to be Thursdays) at 6:00 PM... technically like around 5:59 PM, due to other Checkered Past shows having end credits time-compressed. Cartoon Network's social media accounts promoted this with a clip from EPISODE XCVIII, which is the second post they made regarding specifically Season 5 since their first one, in which they used Mao Mao x Samurai Jack fan art to promote Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time... which is now deleted due to Warner Bros. Discovery purging Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart in an effort to save $3 billion.
Speaking of WBD's animation purge: Cartoon Network Studios' building is now abandoned as the crew was forced to relocate to a new building joining Warner Bros. Animation with affiliate CNS as another cost-cutting move. The Cartoon Network logo on the building was originally moved to the new building, but it was soon sold off letter by letter.
As if things couldn't grow worse; after MGM (on the home entertainment level, still an affiliate with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment/Studio Distribution Services) turned 100, Primal Screen, the studio behind much of Cartoon Network's branding including the Powerhouse era, announced that they were to shut down (likely due to financial issues - thanks a lot Warner Bros. Discovery). Buck's Pastel / Prism / Split-Screen branding is by far the cheapest, blandest, and ugliest one CN ever used, and the negative consequences of Discovery on Turner & WB make this era of CN truly the worse, with little sign of any improvement in their branding and their programming.
Unicorn: Warriors Eternal got the ACME Night marathons and airings it was promised to have, but that is unlikely to happen again since Cartoon Network stopped at 5PM with the debut of Checkered Past, causing ACME Night to be part of [as] as well (that may be just technical laziness on Discovery's part - they're already forcing Turner channels to use Discovery's rating & closed captioned screenbugs). Any future airing of Unicorn on TV, if any, so far will remain with the [adult swim] label, even on ACME Night (even though it was supposed to be for CN).
Relative to samurai in general; the Looney Tunes Cartoons episode "Yosemite Samurai" made its TV debut on Cartoon Network, though airing minutes earlier than the 9:30 AM schedule due to longer episode lengths.
Teen Titans GO! celebrated the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros. in October 2024 (was planned for September but was pushed in part due to revisions), and apparently "JACK, SAMURAI" was on the list! Dexter and Dee Dee, along with The Powerpuff Girls (in altered versions of the 2016 models), made cameos as well.
Tara Strong (a Zionist Jew and the voice of Ashi as well as Ilana Lunis) became controversial due to posts she made and liked speaking against the attacks against Jews by the Hamas, a terrorist group in Palestine. I may suffer from flack over this, but I honestly doubt that she is ultimately racist with the people of Palestine in general - just speaking against a terrorist group in Palestine killing people of her own race. May be that we're just too woke about racism?
The Powerpuff Girls Season 10 (the Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe revival; I personally count the 2016 "reboot" as Seasons 7-9 for a number of reasons) is still in production with people from Titmouse on the crew.
Dexter's Laboratory: The Complete Series DVD is set to release in June 2024... featuring the long overdue official US DVD release of Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip! There was a planned US DVD release long ago.
Warner Bros. may be 101 years old now (impressive considering that Discovery put them at over 60% risk of bankruptcy by December 2023), but they're not finished with celebrating their 100th anniversary; a screening of various WB (and affiliate-owned) shorts including Cartoon Network episodes like Dexter's Laboratory and the Steven Universe pilot "The Time Thing" (on which Genndy was the timing director) was announced for Annecy 2024.
Relative to a block that Samurai Jack used to rerun on; [adult swim] announced another nostalgic block: Toonami Rewind! This is so far exclusive to anime.
Personally, Cartoon Network entering into the Pastel era was bad enough, but Discovery exercising more control of WB affiliate Turner Broadcasting System pretty much killed CN for me (regardless of the many older shows airing on special occasions that weren't rerun on the network in years and even decades). I still remain faithful to a fair extent to CN, but, as you can see, there's a lot about the animation industry that's crumbling.
I'll add more to this post if I find anything else that happened.

Four years since the Gumball series finale
Oh, my gosh, it's been like, what, FOUR years since the series finale of The Amazing World of Gumball?
Since TAWOG has finally ended, I sort of realized my true opinion about how I hate the show.
I hate Gumball, I hate Darwin, I hate Anais, I hate Nicole, I hate Richard, I hate pretty much all of the characters from TAWOG, and I think the crazy facial expressions in the show have a lousy way of showing themselves.
As in, I definitely do hate The Amazing World of Gumball with a burning passion for… You know… A lot of good reasons.
Look, it’s a lot to explain and I’m REALLY tired of going into detail.
All I want to say is that the rest of the characters, including Gumball, Darwin, and Anais, aren’t all that. Nicole Watterson is a huge hypocrite. And Richard Watterson is a bullshit father.
I'm happy that the series has finally ended, and yet Teen Titans Go is still running shit out its ass…
I wish that TTG would be fully canceled already. Better yet, Cartoon Network should stop relying heavily on both TAWOG and TTG and start thinking about what makes itself great television, and cancel this stupid show known as Teen Titans Go.
I'm a DIE-HARD Cartoon Hangover fan now, though I really love both Bravest Warriors and Super Fuckers, and let me tell, the only thing about the Super Fuckers animated web series that makes me sad is that the episodes were only 4 to 5 minutes. Meanwhile, the episodes from Bravest Warriors go for 11 to 12 minutes… I would rather have 11 to 12 minutes of Super Fuckers! Who wouldn't want that?!
By the way, I apologize because I know some of you really want more crossover fanfics from me, and I have a real one in the works.
I've been spending time on DeviantArt and Quotev.
But I really want to do a real crossover story revolving around the characters from both Bravest Warriors and Super Fuckers, especially Beth Tezuka and Jack Krak, and I never wanted to give it up. To be honest, I was just experiencing some writer's block. But I know EXACTLY what to do next for it. I just need time because this isn't the only story I'm going to be working on.
I'm still here for you. :)

R.I.P. Cartoon Network
As you all know Cartoon Network Studios shut down, and they're removing their own shows from their own streaming service and digital purchase.
Including other successful animation studios, shows that are or was rejecting good shows after one or two seasons, or before they even aired the pilot. This also includes a lot animation workers & creators unemployed or disappointed they won't finish their series. During COVID19 their shows carried the industry and made a lot of people happy or excited. (And being able to watch something else besides TTG.)
Unfortunately the company decides to pay them back by canceling their shows after the first or second season, or before the pilot of their show even aired. (Reblog & comment for shows that should have a continuation, like Samurai Jack did ^^.)
They're doing this because of greed and believing it'll make their finances look better by minimizing and cutting their employees. The CEOs and executives are removing everything just for money.
(In my opinion these are my top that I think should have another season or continue the series in Adult Swim.)
(I mostly want them to bring back Infinity Train & make these 2 a mini series.)
Please reblog, ❤, and comment that they should stop rejecting exciting and interesting shows, and which animated series should have more seasons, a movie, a mini series, or a graphic novel & comic series.

What is your favorite and least favorite My Little Pony art style in terms of toy design and show/other media design? What I mean is do you like how the ponies look in one medium but don't like how they look in another medium and vice versa.
I have no experience in critiquing toy designs but for animation designs, i liked the styles in both G3 and G4. But I bet you’re wondering by thoughts on the other gens. So, essay time!
G3 style cleverly adapts the old MLP G1 designs by keeping the ponies horse like with small, yet rectangular muzzles, small pointed ears, a stocky build yet streamlined enough to be easier to animate, detailed hair and doll like eyes to make them more expressive. There is a problem though, all the ponies share the exact same design with different colour schemes and cutie marks telling them apart. The only ones that break this is the unicorns and pegasi, which don’t get featured nearly as enough as the earth ponies. Now, I understand this is purely to save up on animated different body types and this is perfectly understandable, you don’t want your animators to work their fingers to the bone. But when all your characters are practically identical and the only way to tell them apart is colour schemes, that’s just bad character design. Simply changing up their hairstyles would make a huge difference
Case in point: these are the main cast (credit goes to @heckyeahponyscans for this scan) without their colours and they all look identical, save for the cutie marks.
G3 also has the same downside that G1 had: being so on model that it’s limited in expression (along with the disadvantage of budget direct to dvd animation) There are some characters that do work like with the regulars like Minty, Rainbow Dash cos they’re the most theatrical characters in the show but that’s it. When the ponies are on model, they look their best, but when the animators try to make them look in front view or be expressive, it ends up looking so off. If they had more skilled storyboard artists/animators, it would’ve fixed this issue cos the actual character design is fine, albeit very standard. It’s all down to awkward animation
(This pic is from a scene of two ponies arguing, apparently. Look, I’m all for polite disputes but is no one gonna frown or get cross? This is just unnatural)
I still love G3 cos it has great stories outside of the weird animation, but I would’ve loved more moments where the character animation was like this:
It just brings them to life a bit more.
Now G3.5 is another story. Because a lot of kids media went through the chibi-fication phase (see TTG, Care Bears Adventures in Care-a-lot) it only makes sense MLP would do this too but the added bonus is because of this drastic change, they make the ponies a lot more expressive. With the emphasis on bigger eyes and smaller bodies, it leaves room for more dynamic character animation
Granted there’s still moments where the character’s expressions are stilted and awkward cos this was from the same studio as OG G3 but it’s amazing how much a change in art direction can make a big difference. The ponies also get more customised hairstyles to fit their personalities from Rainbow Dash’s sophisticated ponytail (lol) to the studious twintails with the Y2K flower hairpins that Cheerile wears. The two younger ponies, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo are also drawn smaller compared to the others which helps give them more a unique silhouette.
Now G4’s design is the perfect marriage between expressive character animation and toy-centric cuteness. The ponies can look cute one minute and absolutely deranged the next and it won’t look like the ponies broke every facial muscle for doing so. And this has only improved as time went on. There’s a reason why there were so many reaction memes were made from this.
The character designs are much more stylised, with even smaller muzzles and anime-esque eyes, streamlined bodies, different hairstyles and body types are present and even cutie marks are much more detailed and clear. MLP before then never knew how to animate cutie marks properly.
While the heroines follow a simple, easily manufactured for tv character model, so many side characters have different body types from short like the CMC, stocky like Mrs Cake to tall and slender like Celestia and Luna. There’s even character models for old, withered ponies like Granny Smith or Grand Pear. And don’t get me started on villain designs. I think MLP G4 is the first time since G1 that it had unique villain designs. (Chrysalis, Nightmare Moon and especially Discord)
You can tell a lot of heart and passion the artists went into making a more gender neutral and diverse character design into this generation. I think the only downside is nitpicks: I wish the mane 6 had incorporated the unique character models that the other side characters have inherited
Finally: The only art styles I can’t stand is G1 and G5
G1 suffers from 80s TV animation which had even LESS BUDGET than direct to dvd shorts 20 years later, so if you thought G3’s animation was stilted, bruh you haven’t SEEN NOTHING YET. What’s worse is that the character are constantly drawn off model, because the character designs are copy pasted from the toys with very little changes and outside of colour schemes and wings, the ponies all look identical. Even the baby ponies don’t have their own character, let alone even colour schemes, they’re just reused designs of their mothers but drawn slightly smaller. It’s eerie seeing baby characters that are just direct clones of their parents. That is some Dolly the sheep shit.
I will give credit for having some wild villain designs (Erebus, Grogar and the Smooze) and even some unique pony designs from the Clydesdale ponies in one episode to the Big Brother ponies to even the Flutter ponies.
This combined with the many different species that inhabit Dream Valley compliments the fantasy setting of G1. But not surprisingly for a first gen, there’s a lot of room for improvement
And finally, G5. I haven’t watched enough G5 (I’ve literally watched the pilot movie and that’s it) to make a solid argument so take what I say with a grain of salt and personally… I’m not a fan. Nothing against 3D animated ponies. I think it’s a natural step up since 3D animation is a much more preferable medium in both cost-effectiveness and commercial appeal. However I’m not a fan of the more realistic look to the characters. While it’s still stylised, the eyes are much less pronounced, the bodies are more regularly proportioned and the teeth is oddly detailed. They look less like “little ponies” and more well, regular horses. It doesn’t help how G5 is trying so hard to keep its roots in G4 when it’s supposed to be its own thing cos the design philosophy of the show match the philosophy of FiM which was stylised above all else. This is why I prefer the 2D shorts much more.
In conclusion, in terms of story, I rank each gen:
1. G3 and 3.5
2. G4
3. G1
4. G1.5 (MLP Tales)
(Can’t comment on G5, haven’t watched enough to judge)
And most importantly, in terms of design and artstyle:
1. G3.5
2. G4
3. G3
4. G5
4. G1/1.5
I hope that’s answered your question, Yui :)

So there's gonna be a new ttg crossover wb 100th anniversary special about the titans exploring the wb studio lot with cn and other characters, sounds interesting i guess but how come this isn't a animaniacas special? it would make more sense for them to do this. You know it hasn’t been confirmed, but I am convinced on the set/studio of ‘Hazbin Hotel’ that they had Alex Brightman read Vox’s lines as a placeholder until they had someone else cast, because like a YouTube reactor I follow was watching the show and in the second episode thought Vox was voiced by Alex from the moment of that first “VoxTech, Trust us with your safety.” line and the following ones about those sweartitles hellTV shows on the Vox channel, and I knew it wasn’t him and that he’d be corrected soon, so I looked up the cast to find out how to spell Vox’s actual actor’s surname properly (Borles, as in Christian Borles) and it turned out the reactor wasn’t all wrong: Vox’s first line, what his voice sounded like over the announcement speaker for “VoxTech”, had actually also been voiced by Alex. Like he had a credit there as ‘VoxTech Announcer Voice’ alongside his two main roles as Adam and Sir Pentious, and I first thought “Wow, this reactor is much better at spotting voices than he even knows, like no one else on the internet seems to have taken note of this online, and he found it accidentally without knowing”, initially he thought it was going to be that Adam had a stake in the Vees and that was why it was his voice, before realising it was a different character (but not that the following voice was a different one), then as he went along and started analysing the cadences of Vox’s voice, how it was echoing characters and voices Alex had done in the past, what I mentioned first then occurred to me. That the initial readthrough/precast lines for the storyboarding were read by Alex, what with how he is a SpindleHorse favourite, doing Robo Fizz and Fizzarolii for ‘Helluva Boss’ before even ‘Hazbin Hotel’, on a separate note he even voiced the film version of Beetlejuice in an animated crossover with ‘Teen Titans Go!’ using the same voice, and I thought (on him doing the readings) that that made sense, that they likely kept in that first line as a little Easter egg, acknowledging the behind the scenes work he did on the vocal side of things. Like I could see them having at one point considered just having him voice Vox full-time, but decided against it for Borles. Either way, brava Alex Brightman. Your voice is a good one.
Woah, this reactor had a good ear!!! I can barely recognize actors' faces in different contexts. Wow.
(Sidenote, TTG had a Beetlejuice appearance? Damn)

Y aquí tenemos a Don "Sugarcane" Harris con The Mothers of Invention haciendo en julio de 1969 el blues de Little Richard "Directly From My Heart To You".

Unhappy 10th, Teen Titans Go
FUN FACT: "Teen Titans Go" aired on Cartoon Network around the time when “Super Fuckers” was still streaming on Cartoon Hangover on YouTube, which is after episode 7 called “Cute Rump”, and before episode 8 called “Big Ambition”. I was originally going to do a binge-watching marathon involving Cartoon Hangover shows on YouTube, especially “Bravest Warriors” and “Super Fuckers”, but then Cartoon Hangover was just happening way too fast and I felt too behind. And due to the Cartoon Hangover fandom constantly moving onto the next new thing, I absolutely have no other plans of watching Cartoon Hangover on YouTube.
I might get back into it, just for the sole reason that I still hate "Teen Titans Go" even after 10 years. And yes, it would be not only just "Teen Titans Go", but the other shows that I definitely hate with a burning passion... and that includes “The Amazing World of Gumball”.
Unhappy 10th anniversary, Teen fucking Titans Go.
Fuck the Teen Titans. And fuck Robin even more.
