in return, my own mafutoya hcs/fic ideas/just general spouting:

composer buddies. i will die on this hill. theyre an online duo like 25ji and they make music together and their groups have NO idea (bonus points if someone(s) from their group also follow them). i will die on this hill. its hilarious.

on that note, mafuyu taught toya a bit of how to compose— i would imagine she helped him refine how to put emotions into song (since she did that quite well as we know)

^ also, they’re study buddies. def both practice their english on one another, but since madus an honors kids and toyas just Smart they work well together. mafu also helps come up with ways to help toya tutor akian bc she already does that with rando classmates

more canon divergencey, but their parents know each other (not in the same fashion as the aoyagi-tenma friendship…. asahinas more just keeping up terms to look good bc. aoyagis.) so the kids knew each other. they weren’t super close but they’d recognize one another

mafuyu running away at the end of mafu4 definitely gave toya food for thought on his own running away (that he would come back to tackle in toya4 sorry bud)

toyas the extroverted of the two technically. sure, mafu’s mask is even more extroverted, but generally toyas the upbeat one between them.

they like to just take the train around tokyo for the sights. they did it less as toya prepared for rad blast, but mafuyu def took him on a celebratory train ride at some point in congrats

mafuyu does not like most of vbs’ music (since akian wrote the music until roughly toya3, and even then i think they still did the brunt). mafuyu does like toya’s songs, tho

^ followup, toya follows 25ji. hes 50/50 most of the time (partially tastes partially instruments sometimes) but he supports them by leaving ridiculously long comments breaking everything down. hes become a well-known member of the 25ji fandom, accidentally.

more serious hc: toya does not, in any shape or form, “save” mafu. if they knew each other earlier, however, he definitely kept her from going over the edge. i can talk a LOT about this but thats a whole other rabbit trail.

mafuyu gets plushies from toya from the arcade. its usually rabbits, although the occasional cat or bird makes its way into the pile. there is an ever-growing pile of fluff in the corner of mafu’s room at kana’s. honami does Not Know what to do with it.

if they had a sekai together, it would be mafuyu’s fragment sekai but with like. the equivalent of a starbucks stuck in it. like the starbucks at a target or barnes&noble or whatever. mikuluka are their only vs, although they might get a len or kaito later on.

toya goes to miya to pick up kohane when an cant, but honestly goes to talk to mafu mostly. i mean hes there for kohane but sometimes koha has committee and so toya will just,,, talk with mafuyu. the rest of the school is VERY confused as to why this random kamikou guy is talking with asahina mafuyu, and then saki barrels him over one day screaming “OTOUTO!!!” at the top of her lungs and theyre like “oh hes a tenma okay”

this goes without saying but mafu doesnt mask around toya. she did for a bit, but toya saw through it bc it was annoyingly similar to akito’s own. toya Does Not like the mask. in any situation. he willingly chooses to extrovert most of the time than let mafu mask. its partially for his own sanity.

mafu teaches him to cook, and toya reteaches her tastes (partially stolen from that one akitoyamafu fic on ao3 love you)

mizuki constantly tells stories about them to the other, and they always listen with rapt attention. mizu thinks its cute in a way, and is also happy to have their full attention for once (not like toya wouldnt but)

toyamafu have no fashion sense. they just kinda throw something together thats vaguely coherent. akito was forced to band with mizuki to get them to actually match their clothes right.

mafuyu is more athletic than toya (not a high bar tbh) but toyas much more limber and flexible

i was so sure toya was going to cry in the wl2 but im not sure now. i guess he has No Tears Left To Cry. heh.

i do want to see him cry purely because i am an avid enjoyer of angst (and whump). yes i absolutely loved toya4. i wasn't entirely sure why i like angst until my friend (who ALSO likes angst) said that she personally likes it because you get to see a side of a character that is rarely or never shown in canon. i feel like that sums it up pretty well. also i like exploring how Bad Things affect a character's behavior and the way they act. but enough of that--what do you think could cause toya to react to something in such a way?

one i can think of is if he fought with akito in a similar way to how he did in the main story--although this is unlikely because they have developed as a duo since then (toya learning to communicate his feelings better) and i'm not even sure what would cause them to fight??? any ideas??? another thing is his father but like. him and his father are on better terms as of now and i really don't know what would reignite the conflict between him and harumichi. besides, the chances of colopale pulling something like that is like 0.001%. again any ideas at all????

i have actually mentally gone over what a toya angst event could look like multiple times. i would want it to have a either gothic horror theme (the set, song mv, etc) or an Evil Alleyway theme (again, card set, song mv, etc). the former would be if the producer is slave.v-v-r (my #1 pick for a toya comm, if slave.v-v-r gets commissioned for anyone else i will be Sad) and the latter would be if the producer is syudou. i think you can see a similarity between me and another certain anon here but who cares. the event story would probably be something involving his father, possibly not accepting him OR we see the more disturbing aspects of his past. and then theres the secret third, equally as appealing option where its a john commission and the set either takes place in an abandoned city or a music studio depending on what would happen in the event. i think you can tell that this section is just entirely self indulgent

actually, on a side note, i find it really funny how whenever we see what toya's past was like it ends up being something akin to '[warm laugh of fond reminiscence] my father used to make me play piano until my fingers were paralysed with unimaginable pain. he really was so devoted to his cause'. i do think it isn't all like that but it really does feel like that sometimes with toya lol. i do find it quite sweet how he finds beauty and hope even in the most painful moments he's experienced, it tells us a lot about how he is free of hate and resentment despite what his father has done to him. i believe japanese society does put a lot of emphasis on filial piety so i think thats what motivated the writers to write toya that way. i could be wrong though since im not too educated on japanese culture.

an issue with me is that whenever i find a new producer that i like im like 'hey wouldnt it be funny if they made a song for my Favourite Project Sekai Character Toya Aoyagi'. except for the vocaloid producer vell who i agreed should make a song for kohane. funny thing i have a whole list of producers i want commissioned for project sekai in my notes app.

so we (WHO IS WE) can all agree that toya needs to shed a few tears out of sorrow. possibly sobbing a bit. maaaybe. (Yes i know i sound like a sadist my bad if that makes you uncomfortable). he deserves it as a Treat because he DIDNT COME HOME WHEN TOYA4 CAME TO EN AND I SAVED UP 44K IM SO ANGRYR,RR.DDDDDDDDDD

I'm honestly not sure, maybe something related to classical music? That's all I can think of. Maybe he'll have another fight with Akito but I don't see that happening anytime soon. As for seeing him crying I'm indifferent to it, I like angst when it benefits the story but not when it's just making a character sad for the sake of it.

Yeah the Harumichi stuff seems to be over and thank god. Let it be known that the VBS writers have no idea how to write NPCs.

Also those ideas seem cool but I feel like a Toya angst event would mostly show him isolated with nothing but instruments. Maybe it'll happen maybe it won't. IDK what the writers are doing anymore. Also yes to Toya Syuudou or Slave-V-V-R, I'd love those so much.

That REALLY bugs me. That's not nostalgic, it's trauma. I wish Toya's abuse was taken more seriously, because it was that bad and people often look over it. I wish it was treated as seriously as Mafuyu's abuse because I have no idea how those two are in the same game.

No worry I do the same thing. I have three producers I want for each character and the list is getting longer by the day.

Good to see someone else suffered like I did, I pulled and got EVERYONE BUT TOYA on the banner. I was so mad, I didn't want Meiko or An I wanted Toya. At least they gave Mafuyu and Haruka new costumes but that's it.

Not sure if I agree but I'd love for what Toya went through to be taken more seriously. Thanks for the ask.

May 11th | Finally, the start.

Wow, it's been nearly a year.

I started this account in July of 2024, and then. Did nothing with it. College wiped me out worse than I expected, and any free time I had was funneled into filling for people for Toya4 (I got t22!!). But now, finally out of college, I want to get into the habit of doing this. I love Toyamafu with all my heart, and both tiering Toya4 and reading Mafu6 has only fueled that. And I want to write more, especially about them to develop their dynamics more.

In the near year I've been gone, I've collected a number of Toyamafu AUs to help funnel this little blog. You'll meet them all as the blog goes on; each AU will have its own masterlist and identifying tag (like "tymf-fracturedworlds" or "tymf-cclaf") to read the entire series in one space once they're all introduced. One of my goals with this blog is to simply. Stop writing so much exposition. So with these AUs, even I don't know the full overview. That's something I hope to develop as this blog goes on.

I plan to introduce more AUs as time goes on and new cards drop (specifically looking at 25ji WL2 and Toya6), but for now pretty much all of their cards have an AU associated with them. I also plan to rehaul the pinned post, but that'll come later.
