okay fuckin' seriously here
the United States was not some exceptional stronghold of Nazi-Loving that suddenly switched teams over Pearl Harbour or whatever
The American Nazi movement was not large. It was a fringe movement of mostly recent German immigrants that got thoroughly embarrassed by antifascists. American racism (which, to be clear, was and is an enormous and mainstream political force) was largely ideologically incompatible with the Nazis; many dyed in the wool racists in the United States thought Hitler was nuts (in no small part because most of them were Anglo-Saxon supremacists still on the fence about German people being white).
Nazi Germany was not a well-liked state by pretty much anyone except, like, Austria. Not even the Italians really liked them, and they were allies. American media from the 1930s pretty consistently portrays the actual feelings most people had about Hitler and the Nazis; that they were warmongering maniacs and thank God there's an Atlantic in the way.
It always astonishes me that people lose their mind when they find out the Hindenberg had a big swastika on it and assume this means that Nazi Germany and the United States were super close allies right up until 1941. Like, the Soviets and United States weren't exactly friends during the Cold War, but Aerofloat planes with a big hammer and sickle on the side were landing every other day in JFK for decades flying the direct route from Moscow to New York.
President FDR's government fucking hated the Nazis; he was making preparations for war well before the actual declaration, and was material supporting Britain and the Soviets before the US joined formally. The Nazis were largely portrayed in American media as tyrants and bullies who exploited economic discontent to get people to sign away their rights and democracy, and while America could hardly be said to be friendly to Jewish people in the 1930s, what was happening in Germany was still not seen in a good light.
youtube
Another thing you need to understand is that the United States was not a monolith on racism inside the United States. Jim Crow was not a beloved institution for people who weren't white Southerners. Putting aside, you know, the minority populations of the US themselves, and the genuine anti-racist activists, it still wasn't exactly something people were proud of outside its strongholds. The 1920s and 1930s are pretty much the absolute height of mainstream popularity of scientific racism and the Confederate Lost Cause in the United States across the political spectrum... and the American laws that Nazi Germany tried to model theirs on were still seen by many Americans as a shameful and backward institution whose brutality was unbecoming of "civilized people".
You know that thing about the past being a foreign country? It's not a joke; when we look at the past, we have the same knee-jerk out-group response to reduce and compress the breath of experience and opinion into a singular narrative. This post is a prime example.
The reality is that the United States in 1936 had four and a half million Jewish people in it who weren't exactly fans of the Nazis. 2,800 Americans volunteered to fight against the fascists in Spain in the XV International Brigade. When war was declared, millions of Americans volunteered.
The main reluctance in the US to join the war wasn't that they loved the Nazis and wanted them to win, it was that the US was highly isolationist after joining the First World War, and the popular perception that they had only done so as a cash grab for the arms industry (the 1934 book Merchants of Death was quite influential and lead to the 1936 Nye Committee in Congress which resulted in a series of Neutrality acts). They didn't want to get involved in a war that they didn't see as affecting them. Which is why the US did join the war once it did affect them, what with Pearl Harbour getting attacked.
Now putting all that aside, Indiana Jones has a lot of reasons to fucking hate Nazis, even before we point out he's directed by Steven Spielberg; he's an academic and archaeologist, he's probably already lost acquaintances to the Nazis when they purged German academia of leftists and Jews, and he's watched German archaeology become mired in conspiracy theories about ice planets and ancient aryans. He's got plenty of reasons.
BUT EVEN BEYOND THAT, Indiana Jones is a throwback movie. George Lucas wanted to make a blockbuster version of a 1940s Republic movie serial, the episodic pulp adventure stories that would play chapter-by-chapter in theatres and were basically the Marvel movies of the day. Republic made action-packed stories, among which was one of the foundational touchstones for Indiana Jones' globetrotting, nazi-punching adventures.... SPY SMASHER!
youtube
>Watch trailer for Indiana Jones game >Think about how Indiana Jones really really hates nazis >Think about how Indiana Jones takes place in 1936 >Think about how America didn't join world war 2 until 1941 >Think about how nazi Germany got its ideas of racial hierarchy from the segregation in Jim Crow America >Think about how an upperclass white man in 1936 would actually be more likely to agree with nazi ideas, so there must be a specific reason why Indiana Jones hates nazis so much >Think about how Indiana Jones is a movie from 1981 >Think about how this was right after the Vietnam war, a war America lost real bad >Indiana Jones' anachronistic hatred of nazis is a form of WW2 nostalgia because Americans needed something to feel good about after losing real bad in Vietnam, and that was the only conflict in living history where Americans were the "good guys" >Think about how in current year, Indiana Jones hating nazis is positioned as "woke pandering"

i love yous and what not
you tell james you love him for the first time
words: 940
genre: fluff
cw: kind of reserved!reader (?), james is an annoying sweetheart
a/n: didn't realise this is another confession blurb. ive been getting too many negative posts (fanwars and all) in my tl so i needed get my head clear. i need to start blocking people don't i.
.....
You were never a vocal person. To tell someone something vulnerable made you recoil into yourself. You liked seeing it through actions. James knew that. But James had always been an expressive person. He liked showing his love, and proclaiming it, and sharing it. Basically, any form of affection.Ā
Your reluctance had never stopped him.Ā
He had said ā€˜I love youā€™ a month into dating, you hadn't minded it. You already knew he did, and you felt the same. You had only kissed him later, but next morning, it was as if he could predict your words,
ā€œYou really don't have to say it. I know you have a hard time with these things. I know how you feel, it's hard not to know. I feel all fuzzy inside when you smile at me" He had grinned down at you as you hid, your face half under the blanket but he knew you were smiling. He could see it in your eyes, and who wouldn't know, he did feel all fuzzy inside.Ā
So you hadn't said it. At least not as a confession.Ā
James is terrible company. Terrible because he rubs off on you. You were never someone to wake early in the morning, you still aren't. But your body seems to wake itself to bid him goodbye in the morning, ā€œI'm only going to the gym" He'd say as he kisses your forehead, your body going back to sleep again.
And you had peppered in ā€˜love you's in your texts, when bid him goodbye, in your notes, magnetic letters spelling out ā€˜LYā€™ under his growing collection of pictures etc. etc.
Today's different. He's still annoying with what feels like a weekly routine to cuddle you with cheesy romantic sentences, that you know he means -he knows they make you squeezy- but he says them anyway.Ā
ā€œThis isn't a joke my love, I really would let you stab me,ā€ His arms squeezing your waist as you squirm in his lap, "I'd just be glad you'd be the one to do it."Ā
You try to be annoyed, but laugh as you make more futile attempts to escape.Ā
ā€œI feel as if you were made for me. You know that one line," His eyes light up in excitement, your movements still as he concentrates, ā€œI don't believe in God, but I truly believe God made you for me. It's from a book, I think."
ā€œOh my god, James," You chuckle, your hands pushing on his bicep, but you really only feel them flex under your fingers.Ā
ā€œWhat do you want for lunch?" He asks, pressing one last kiss on your lips as he lifts you off of him and goes to get his phone.
ā€œHe really needs to stop doing that to meā€, you mumble to yourself.Ā
The next morning, you had woken up as you usually did on the time James left the house. But today he was staying in, you knew this after he proclaimed he's gonna be too tired after last night's activities. You had laughed him off, but you guess he was telling the truth.
You laugh, because he is fast asleep and his lips a little puckered, nose cold to touch. You adjusted his blanket before pressing a kiss to his nose. Then another -then another, deciding those would be the only way you'd warm up the cold.
James was half- awake, he knew you were there, but he didn't dare wake up, his sleepy mind scared that it might be a dream and you'd stop.
Your fingers traced over his eyes, his forehead, his chin, mindless activities to spend time, to rid your mind of the pestering feeling.
It had been present since yesterday, or last week, maybe a month, maybe more. You wanted to say it, but every moment felt too casual, or too formal, or maybe too inappropriate, or too serious. You didn't know what to do.Ā
You didn't know how he'd react, if he'd resort to his teasing proclamations, or ignore it, or say it back. It was silly to worry about this, there's nothing to fear, it's James.Ā
You didn't know what made you say it, maybe because he was sleeping, or well- pretending to sleep, or it was the quiet, maybe something else. There was nothing all too romantic about this moment, but you had said it anyway,
ā€œI love you." A quiet whisper, not hesitant or unsure, just nervous. Your pinky finger runs along his nose, it's quite warm now, his whole face is, ā€œI hope you already know that."
He half opens his eyes, just to see a glimpse of your face, it's zeroed in on a curl of his, falling to the side of his face.
Ā James had known you liked him before you knew. Your love isn't something non- detectable. It was out there, for everyone to see. Unintentionally or not. He had no doubts. He has a million questions if you're saying it because you feel obligated, or pressured or anything else, but he's afraid he might ruin the moment. So for now, He only pulls you impossibly close, his whole body thrumming with excitement, he'd freak out about this later on. Right now he only wants you.
His arms wrap around you, and buries his face into your neck, his warm breath on yours, ā€œI love you, too. So,ā€- a kiss, ā€œSo,ā€-another one, "much."
He nuzzles into you, and let him, of course you do, fingers brushing out his curls, he continues, ā€œBut I think you already knew that."Ā

do you think toji and/or sukuna are into looksmaxxing. i need to know.
choso is probably near to tears just thinking about it - he's having a hard time adjusting to all these new trends anyways, wdym there's a whole section of it now?
i feel like gojo just flexes his "natural" looks, nanami doesn't even know he has them until someone comments on your post saying "you won/we're so back."
omg hellaurrr i really pulled out a notebook to jot these down (this isn't even a joke, my keyboard was messing with me but i was worried i'd forget to answer properly) but now i may transcribe my notes on jjk + looksmaxxing šŸ˜ šŸ¤ u always send me the funniest things
Tumblr media
gojo once found a wrinkle on his forehead and cancelled class for the day. now he sleeps with a cucumber and a jade roller. when he gets drunk, he claims that a kpop idol dm'ed him for advice on clear skin, never says who though (#liar) and in high school he used a self tanner once because suguru once likened him to an overgrown, pale musty mushroom. ended up with orange streaks everywhere. does pilates but will never admit it. wishes that in another life he was an influencer just so someone would send him pr packages because its nice to get presents in a box. definitely calls himself an icon.
geto thinks essential oils are a part of looksmaxxing so he feels better on the inside. literally floats around like a walking bottle of sandalwood and lavender. tried growing facial hair because he thought it would be great to accentuate his jawline, but someone called him a discount samurai and he had to cancel the cult meeting that day. thinks looksmaxxing isn't just physical but also a state of mind, so he carries around books like crime and punishment to look smart. thought that wearing glasses would make him look smarter and had a phase where he wore fake ones and not one person complimented them.
sukuna secretly has a stash of protein powder. it goes in everything, smoothies and sprinkled over raw meat. says that he doesn't give a flying fuck about these things, but used to read old, ancient scrolls about medieval skincare. got uraume to make him a scrub from red spider lilies and wondered why his skin was burning sooo bad afterwards. sharpens his nail with blades and claims its better than just normally clipping your nails, but he always ends up scratching himself bad. has a collection of sheet masks. has the best eyebrows of all time and knows this (gets them plucked). has an anonymous #hater tiktok account where he comments rude things under gojo's posts.
nanami. you are soooo right, he probably doesn't know or give a fuck about these things because he's actually employed. but hates the idea of a ten step skincare routine for he thinks that the best routine is simple: cleanser + moisturiser + sunscreen. believes in the power of a neutral toned wardrobe with clean, tailored silhouettes. but there are photos of him out there from when he was 18 years old, with black eyeliner on his waterline. shoots down everyone's ridiculous looksmaxxing attempts. jawline exercises? just chew your food properly. botox and fillers? try eight hours of sleep before reaching for the needles. want to post a glow up journey? well, just focus on yourself and move in silence. kind of gojo's biggest opp for all this, and being so clean and put together effortlessly...

Vi got robbed by the finale
First, a few words on where I'm coming from. I really enjoyed Vi and felt for her in season 1. I'm a Cait/Vi enjoyer and was looking forward to their resolution. I do not have fundamental objections to Vi becoming an enforcer. I don't have a problem with Caitlyn and Vi having sex in the Jinx cell and I actually think it is one of the better scenes of her arc.
IMO she was great, tragic POV heroine and lead in season 1.
Her status changed in season 2, which is reflected in the screntime distribution (ie both Jinx and Caitlyn having more screentime). This does not have to be a bad thing. You can have good arcs and emotionally resonant stories even as a supporting character.
But the more and more I think about the finale and Act 3, the more I think Vi really got treated badly. And the core is really this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've joked that I thought about switching my ship allegiance to Mel/Cait after the finale. I'm not actually serious about it. But it got me to think.
And I came up with the following thesis:
1.) Vi is really, really unimportant and useless in the final fight 2.) That matters because they went with an an action finale
On to a long post discussing Vi's role in the finale and Vi's arcs in Act 1 and 2 and her lack of meaningful arc in Act 3.
Within the finale there's really a clear hierarchy of conflicts.
1.) Viktor is the biggest threat and the most emotionally emphasized climax. Jayce is the action and emotional hero of this threat, Ekko is the supporting cool action hero of this threat.
2.) Ambessa is the second most scary threat. She's not a universe threatening as Viktor, but she's still badass and interesting and she gets a cool and very lengthy action scene associated with her. Mel is the emotional core of this conflict. Cait gets the badass action part of this conflict. Mel and Cait also directly coordinate, increasing the badassery.
3.) Warwick by comparison is barely a goon. He feels like an afterthought. Not like a major threat. Vi and Jinx are "assigned" to him. Jinx is the hero of this already fairly unimportant conflict and I would argue she even gets the bigger emotional punch, even though Vi is clearly affected as well.
I find it striking how different Vi's role in the battle feels to Caitlyn. Caitlyn it feels gets two badass action sequences. First in the smoke, really getting to show of her sharp shooting:
Tumblr media
While at the same time, Vi gets her shit kicked in by regular Noxian soldiers and is busy... trying to hold a door? Babysitting the shooting of a rocket?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've been thinking about it. On paper, there isn't that much of a difference between Cait's sharp shooter sequence and Vi's sequence at the tower.
Both show several people dying around them (though Cait acts calm and professional about it while Vi reacts emotionally). Both have bit player characters stepping in to help execute what they are doing (Steb placing the bomb, Jhin tease guy shooting the rocket). Both have missions that kind of fail (Cait's bomb doesn't go off, the rocket shoots the empty egg thing).
But it still feels like Caitlyn just gets way more glory shots. While Vi gets pushed to the floor, gets rescued by Jinx and Ekko riding to her rescue.
Her big glory shot
Tumblr media
In theory should be great. She is punching Warwick to rescue Jinx. But it's shot so far away and turns around so fast into Warwick choking her, we don't feel the impact of her punch at all, even though on paper it is Vi using her gauntlets in a really cool innovative way.
If I compare how the Cait/Ambessa fight goes, yes Cait also gets hurt and thrown to the ground.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Cait's fight just feels way more badass and Cait like a fundamental part of that conflict. Cait and Mel fight like a well coordinated team while Vi, Jinx and Ekko feel a lot more erratic. Cait is the one who initiates the fight in the first place, Cait is the one who makes a badass sacrifice to open up an essential tactical weakness. Yes, Mel gets the last shot and the emotional payoff, but it still feels very much like Caitlyn's fight too.
Yes in theory, Vi and Jinx go back and forth with saving each other, but it's just much faster and erratic, and *busier*, it just never has the same impact to hit. (I would be very interested in seeing a numbers breakdown, how much screentime is spent on the various different fights but also who has longer scenes before the next cut is)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It just feels like this finale is filled with scene after scene after scene with Vi being shellshocked and helpless and not really being super effective enough to compensate for that. Neither her glory moments, not her emotional moments really get the time to breathe the way this moment does with slo-mo and a song.
Tumblr media
Compare Vi hurtling herself at Warwick to save Jinx, versus Jinx hurtling herself at Warwick to save Vi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, so is this just a dick measuring contest over who gets to be the most badass?
No. It's not a crime for Vi not to be the most effective fighter in the finale. But let's take a step back.
Act 1: Vi is a supporting character, but she has a clear role
I have said before I feel a major difference to season 1 is that rather than Vi being the main driving character, the show switched. Cait is the main character of Act 1, Jinx of Act 2.
Vi has lost her spot as main character, but her role in the story is still very clear. She is there as Cait's partner, her heart, her conscience. She witnesses Cait's distress. She tries to reach out to her. When they have an action scene, they work together and coordinate.
Arcane has action roots. Characters express themselves through their action scenes. That's why it's important who gets what action scene.
Also, while Cait's grief and hate and decisions drive the events of Act 1, Vi has her own arc of having hardened towards Jinx (agreeing Cait should take the shot) and then having that challenged by the end and of course getting an emotionally charged poignant moment when Cait dumps her when Vi takes a stand for Isha (= Vi making a choice).
Act 2: Vi is a supporting character, but she has a clear emotional arc
IMO Jinx is the clear lead character of act 2. She has a clear arc with Isha, befriending Isha, rescuing Isha, losing Isha.
Jinx is also the driving force of the Warwick arc. She encounters Warwick first. She is the one Warwick recognizes first. She puts 2+2 together. She seeks out Vi. She initiates their trip to the mines. She gives Vi the important hint about correctly handling Warwick. Warwick jumps into action ("Don't touch my daughter") to save her. His "death" in this arc is linked to Jinx and Isha.
But Vi still has a nice and satisfying enough arc in Act 2 anyway. She starts at rock bottom and grieving, she gets roped in by Jinx, she is initially suspicious of Jinx, she starts to trust Jinx more, her reunion with Warwick is emotional, they all go and try to help him, Jinx and Vi think about their mother.
Vi also goes from grieving Cait, to fixing her own life a little bit, to re-encountering Cait and teaming up with her again.
The big theme of Vi's arc is trust. She has to get over her fears and trust Jinx's advice on Warwick, just like she has to trust Caitlyn about letting Cait tie her up and play fake prisoner.
Act 3: Jinx has an arc about Vi, but Vi has no arc about Jinx
Jinx's in arc in Act 3 is about deciding to leave Vi. Everything in this arc is to prepare us for it.
Vi is not at all in the first episode. Even though the trigger of that episode was according to Amanda Overton what would happen if Vi had died in the original explosion, and the episode is absolutely respectful of Vi, with much grief and praise about it, in the end the portrayal isn't really about how life is impossible for these characters without Vi.
We get told what's going to happen to Jinx and get emotionally prepared for it, even though we don't know it. Sometimes leaping a step forward meansĀ leaving aĀ few things behind. We get prepared for the idea that leaving things behind doesn't have to be a bad thing.
In the next episode, again we are getting prepared for what Jinx wants to do through her vision of Silco. She's going to heroically break the cycle of violence. Also, codes and commitments (like Vi's to Jinx) can be the bars we lock outselves in with. Identities (like the Jinx identity) are the cells we want to break out of.
Jinx then makes her decision. She's going to leave Vi. Vi never giving up on her is perceived to be something negative by her. She sets Vi free, telling her to stop caring about Jinx, telling her to be happy with Cait instead.
In the last episode, Ekko talks her out of killing herself. But Jinx still is determined to leave Vi. She says her goodbye to Vi. She assures Vi that it's not a problem because they will always be close anyway.
She then cuts the ties, lets go of Vi's hand and tumbles down with Warwick (and by most people's logic, fakes her own death and leaves the city).
Jinx has made a decision about Vi, which she executes. But Vi has no say in this decision. That's why she has no arc. She doesn't get to make a decision about her future really.
Even sneaking out to try and save Jinx we find out was prepared for by Caitlyn (and of course we find out that Caitlyn is the one who understands what Jinx did while Vi is still outside of this decision). And yes, she chooses to sleep with Caitlyn and she chooses to live with Caitlyn. But do these things really feel like part of her arc or just Vi reacting to circumstances?
IMO Vi wasn't ready to let Jinx go, that's why Jinx had to do it against Vi's will. That's why Vi doesn't make a real decision in Act 3.
Amanda said they wanted to explore who Vi would be if she didn't have anybody she had to protect and that is a valid and cool idea. But how much time with that did we really get?
And yes I genuinely think that if Vi had gotten a better action role within the finale it would have made a real difference in not making her feel so aimless.
Don't get me wrong. I get why they split it like that. The story required for Vi and Jinx to be paired up, so they can execute the conclusion of their sisters story. And unfortunately, compared to the other threats going on in the finale that story didn't really get the attention and gravitas and time and focus it deserved. (also Vi doesn't have a meaningful enough relationship with Ambessa for it to work for her to be in the Ambessa confrontation)
The problem is also that Vi doesn't really have much of a say in the conclusion of the sisters story. And her future is with Caitlyn.
So if they had found a way to sneak in some Vi and Caitlyn also doing action together or even just have Vi react to Caitlyn's duel or have Caitlyn react to Vi being under attack from Warwick, I think it would have felt more satisfying vis a vis the relationship they are going to have.
Alternatively. I love Ekko. I love that he got a badass fighting moment against Viktor. But in the moment where Jayce flies past Vi, for a moment I thought Vi would switch battlefields and Jayce and Vi would team up again, like they've done a couple of times already. If Vi's identity within the final battle was to be a big damn hero, that would also have imo left us more assured about what her identity is moving forward. Rather than the only thing we have is her being fairly weak in battle, being left out of information loops/not being smart enough to recognize them and being Cait's sweet live in girlfriend.
I don't hate Vi. I don't hate CaitVi. And I actually have some hope that maybe there is a chance that CaitVi as a pair will get to show off their stuff in some other form after all. But yeah, that's why imo season 2 and particularly Act 3 really did Vi a disservice.
(I'm not even suggesting things like Vi's decision to fight for Piltover and seeing so many Zaunites die being given gravitas or her reacting to Sevika being on the council, because I think the writers just have no interest in this topic at all)

does anyone else do the avpd thing where the more you like or care about someone, the more you subconsciously avoid them way more than you avoid other people (to the point of not even looking at them)?
because i do and iā€™m constantly terrified that the people i like and care about the most are going to think i hate them because my brain wonā€™t let me act like i like them or engage with them at all. and it kills me that itā€™s not even a stretch for them to think i hate them because yeah, if iā€™m smiling at and even having little chats with other people but i canā€™t even look at them, it sure does look like i hate them, doesnā€™t it?
but itā€™s not like iā€™m making a conscious choice to avoid them or act cold toward them, itā€™s just an instinct that i donā€™t really even notice iā€™m slipping into again until itā€™s too late. in the moment, it feels just like my usual avoidance and itā€™s only once iā€™m with other people again that i realize how much of an asshole i was.

Replacement Pt.12
Tumblr media
Read the rest of the series here!
Warnings: just some pg13 making out, nothing else.
WC: 3.3k
A/N: hi, I finally got this chapter finished, itā€™s been a struggle, like Iā€™ve said Iā€™ve been incredibly busy, Iā€™m hoping to get some short blurbs written for yall so I can get back to consistently posting.
You didnā€™t hear much from Jessie the next day. A few texts here and there, but nothing like you were used to. You acknowledged each other at training, uncomfortable glances in each other's direction, followed by quick, training related conversations.
You hated it. Feeling like you had messed up, that you were to blame. You had spent the night feeling angry, at Jessie and at yourself. Her words had hurt, the way she nearly dismissed what you had seen as valuable. You loved the safety you felt when it was just the two of you in her apartment. You loved how it felt to finally feel comfortable exploring this side of your life. You loved being able to touch her, hold her hand, kiss her and not feel scared. You loved being able to open talk, no teammates or strangers potentially listening in. You figured she had felt the same, until she had called it all fake.
At the same time you were mad at her, you were mad at yourself. You knew it wasnā€™t fair to force Jessie into dates at home. She deserved someone who wanted to show her off, someone who was proud to be her girlfriend and showed it. You hadnā€™t given that to her. The longer you sat in bed thinking, the more you felt torn. You didnā€™t want to lose her, but you werenā€™t ready for everyone to know, at least not yet.
ā€œCan I pick you up tonight? 9pm? Iā€™ll have you home by midnight I promise.ā€ Those were the first words you spoke to Jessie this morning that werenā€™t related to soccer. You had waited around in the locker room after training until all your teammates had left and just the two of you sat side by side in your cubbies.
ā€œKinda late donā€™t you think?ā€ She questions quietly.
ā€œPlease?ā€ You didnā€™t want to have to beg her, but you needed to talk, you needed this chance with her.
ā€œOkay, sure.ā€
ā€œOkay, Iā€™ll pick you up.ā€ You say to her as she heads out of the locker room. A little hurt that she hadnā€™t waited to walk out with you, but you also couldnā€™t blame her too much. This morning had been tense and awkward, it was fair for her to run off.
ā€œYouā€™re not going to kill me up here are you?ā€ Jessie tries to break the silence in the car. You just glance at her. ā€œSorry, obviously a joke.ā€
You and Jessie had been driving for about 25 minutes before you parked the car. You had traveled out of the city of Portland, into the woods, down a gravel road, to a small clearing you found last year. Away from the hussle and bussle of the city, it became a quiet place for you to think. It probably wasnā€™t at all what she was expecting, but you didnā€™t mind surprising her.
ā€œ9pm picnic?ā€ Jessie says, puzzled look on her face as she followed you out of the car and watched you lay out the blanket you had brought.
ā€œNo, stargazing.ā€ You point upward to the clear sky displaying tiny bright dots of light.
ā€œOh.ā€ Jessie makes her way to the blanket, toeing off her shoes before sitting down. You follow, sitting beside her. Just like the car, the two of you start off in silence, waiting for the other to break it.
ā€œLook, Jessie.ā€ You start, waiting for her to turn to look at you, when her eyes meet yours you continue. ā€œI know this isnā€™t completely public, but Iā€™m trying. You asked to do something outside of our houses, this is what Iā€™m comfortable with for now. I wanted to show you, Iā€™m in this, I want this.ā€
ā€œI know, Iā€™m really sorry, for what I said, I should have never said those dates were fake, because they werenā€™t. Those evenings together meant something to me and they meant something to you. They werenā€™t fake and Iā€™m so sorry I said they were. Iā€™m in this too, I want this too. I just freaked out, thinking youā€™d keep me a secret forever, which now that Iā€™ve reflected was stupid and I just panicked.ā€
ā€œIt was never my intention to keep you a secret forever. I just need a little bit more time. Iā€™m still figuring this out.ā€
ā€œYeah, I know. You deserve to take the time you need, Iā€™m sorry if I made you feel pressured in any way.ā€ Her hand on your thigh gives you a gentle squeeze, sending tiny feelings of electricity up between your legs.
You respond with silence, not quite knowing where to take the conversation, but also just falling into a comfortable silence with the girl next to you. As you both lay, you lean your head over, resting it on her shoulder. The two of you lay in silence, admiring the display in the sky above you.
ā€œThis has been really nice.ā€ Jessie says rolling over on her side to look at you. You keep your eyes trained on the sky, looking at the stars. ā€œThank you for showing me this.ā€ She puts a kiss on your cheek before shifting to lay her head on your chest, one of her arms coming to wrap around your waist.
You feel your face rush with heat at the feeling of her kiss. You couldnā€™t believe something simple from her, like a peck on the cheek still gave you a tingling feeling in your stomach. ā€œYou know itā€™s been three months technically since our first date, and one month since we agreed to be girlfriends?ā€
ā€œI did.ā€ Jessie lets out a little sigh. ā€œI just wasnā€™t sure if you wanted to make it a big deal or not, people are different, we hadnā€™t really done anything for month one or two, so I wasnā€™t sure if you maybe werenā€™t a monthly anniversary person or not.
ā€œI wasnā€™t sure if you were, thatā€™s why I havenā€™t been saying anything.ā€
ā€œSo weā€™ve just been not acknowledging it.ā€ Jessie laughs softly as she speaks.
ā€œYeah I guess.ā€ You shrug.
You feel Jessie shift on the blanket, she lifts her head momentarily.ā€œIā€™ve had a really nice three months with you.ā€
ā€œMe too babe.ā€ You both share a smile before Jessie leans up toward you, her lips finding yours.
As you kiss you can almost feel a shift. One you canā€™t quite place but the way she kissed you, felt deeper, more passionate, her tongue running against yours felt dirtier, in a way that made you want more. Before you can get too carried away you find yourself pulling back. You wanted it, but not on a blanket, on a rock, in the middle of somewhat secluded woods.
ā€œUm, so itā€™s almost eleven, I promised Iā€™d have you home by midnight.ā€
ā€œRightā€¦ā€ Jessie says. ā€œI mean, we do have film and recovery tomorrow. Should probably get at least some sleep.ā€ Both of you groan as you stand up, not wanting to leave the peaceful night you had created, but you knew you had to.
After the short drive home you found yourself parking your car outside of your own place, instead of Jessieā€™s. ā€œSorry, Iā€™ll drop you off in a second, I forgot something for you, I meant to grab it earlier.ā€
ā€œOf course, no problem.ā€
ā€œUnless you wanted to come upstairs?ā€ It was an innocent enough question you posed to Jessie, but both of you knew it likely had a less than innocent underlying meaning.
You had been more physical on your date tonight than most. Your hands had constantly been finding ways to touch Jessie. Your hand in hers, your hand on her thigh, hand on her back, your fingers running through her hair, and she was returning the favor, her hands running down your side as she had rested with her head on your chest.
ā€œYeah, if you want me to?ā€
ā€œI do.ā€ You nodded. ā€œPlus, tomorrow is just film and recovery, if weā€™re a little sleepy, itā€™ll be alright.ā€ You end the sentence with a slight smirk on your face. The two of you made quick work of getting out of your car and she followed you up to your building.
You initiated it. The second the two of you made it through the door, your lips found Jessieā€™s, kissing her hard, not wasting any time before you let your tongue slide against her lips. Hands on her hips you urge her to move backward in the direction of your bedroom.
You poured years of self hatred and denial into the kiss, you were finally getting what you had always wanted deep down. The feelings you had suppressed for years poured out as the two of you made your way into the bedroom.
You reach the bed, finally breaking your kiss and you climb onto it as Jessie stands at the side, watching you. ā€œAre you sure?ā€
ā€œYeah, Iā€™m sure.ā€ Not having to think twice you reassure her with an enthusiastic nod, it felt right, tonight was the night. You had no idea what you were doing, but excitement filled your stomach.
ā€œOkay, just tell me if you change your mind.ā€ Jessie says as she climbs onto the bed next to you, situating herself between your thighs.
Leaning down, she covers your body with her own, her lips making their way back to yours and the two of you spend time kissing. You slowly become used to the feeling of her body on yours, it's new, but you liked it, your hands hold her sides as her own hold her above you. Every slight shift of her weight you can feel, the longer you kiss her the more restless you become. You can feel the way her hips softly rock against yours. For a moment youā€™re in heaven.
You can feel your head start to spin as she kisses the side of your neck. The feeling you're experiencing is one youā€™re unable to put into words, a mix of uncertainty and excitement fill your system. Feeling bold in your movements you let your hands pick at the edges of Jessieā€™s shirt, your fingers just barely touching her bare skin underneath. She sits back, breaking away her lips from your skin and you watch as she puts her arms up.
ā€œGo ahead.ā€ She nods with a smile down to you and you slowly pull the shirt up and over her head. You let your eyes trail down her body, pausing a little too long at her chest, still covered in a sports bra. It was a view you had seen hundreds of times in the locker room but this was different. This wasnā€™t seeing her change into her kit for a game, this wasnā€™t her changing after practice. She was undressing for you. That made it different.
Youā€™re enjoying the attention sheā€™s giving to your neck and lips, until her hands find their way to the hem of your shirt and you feel her begin to gently pull on it. She doesnā€™t quite make a move to take it off of you yet, but you know thatā€™s what sheā€™s teasing at, her fingers creeping further under your shirt. Thatā€™s when your stomach feels like a sinking rock, it finally sets in what the two of you were doing. She was going to be naked, you were going to be naked. Sheā€™d be seeing every inch of you. You hadnā€™t done anything like this before, before Jessie youā€™d hardly made out with anyone.
As her fingertips graze the band of your bra the feeling in your stomach grows and for a moment youā€™re worried youā€™ll be sick. ā€œHang on Jess.ā€ Youā€™re able to whisper out and you almost regret it as you feel her lips pull away from your sensitive skin.
ā€œAre you okay?ā€ Jessie pulls back looking at your face, her fingers still touching under your shirt.
ā€œUh.ā€ You try to find your voice, the words to tell her. Feeling frozen you just look at her. When she moves her fingers slightly you jump under her touch. Jessie now looks concerned as she looks down at you. You feel like you could cry in the moment, the lump in your throat starting to feel impossible to swallow.
ā€œWe can stop.ā€ Jessie offers sweetly.
ā€œNo Jess, it's fine.ā€ You quickly find the words trying to convince her and yourself that youā€™re okay. ā€œIā€™m fine.ā€
ā€œI donā€™t think you mean that.ā€ Jessie stays still, her hands still resting on either side of your abdomen, you hope she canā€™t feel how uneven your breathing is, or just how hard your heart is beating. ā€œI can tell youā€™re nervous, we donā€™t have to do anything you donā€™t want to.ā€
You shouldnā€™t be embarrassed, but you were. Tucking your head down to avoid her eyes, you can feel them burning into the crown of your head. The heat rising on your cheeks makes this feel even more embarrassing. ā€œIā€™ve just, Iā€™ve never, and I donā€™t, I mean, Iā€™m just not sure.ā€ You manage to mumble out.
Jessie doesnā€™t say anything initially, but you feel her fingers slide out from under your shirt, resting on your thighs that were still wrapped around her waist. ā€œHey, itā€™s okay.ā€ She begins rubbing slow strokes up and down your shorts, comforting you. Her right hand leaves your thigh and finds your own hand, gently interlacing your fingers.
ā€œIā€™m sorry.ā€ Your voice cracks slightly and you can feel the tears welling up, blinking hard a couple escape and roll down your cheek. ā€œI thought I was ready.ā€
ā€œItā€™s okay, look at me.ā€ Jessie politely requests. You turn your head, giving her a quick glance before shying away again. ā€œPlease,ā€ itā€™s a gentle ask and you do as she says, making eye contact with her for just a moment before your eyes fall to your lap again, ā€œI don't care, I mean, I do obviously, I care about you. I just mean, if youā€™re ever not ready, not comfortable, weā€™re not going to do anything.ā€
ā€œI want to, I promise, I want to have sex with you, just, I donā€™t know, itā€™s still all new.ā€ You couldnā€™t quite put into words the feelings you were having, uneasy, anxious, and yet excited, all flooding your system making you feel unwell.
ā€œThatā€™s okay.ā€ Jessie swings her legs over yours, sitting down on the bed next to you, she reaches for her own previously discarded shirt pulling it over her head quickly before returning her focus to you. ā€œYou don't need a reason, and it's also okay to just not be ready.ā€
You just nod. You stay staring ahead, where Jessie used to sit, now your eyes fell across the room on the empty wall. An unsettling feeling still in your stomach, you just wanted it to go away. Your brain felt like it was ready to explode and yet it was silent at the same time, having no idea how to process the emotions you went through.
Youā€™re not sure how long itā€™s been when Jessie speaks again. ā€œDo you want me to go? I can leave if you need some space, Or I can stay, itā€™s your choice, whatever will make you comfortable.ā€
You hardly had to think before you knew the answer ā€œStay?ā€
ā€œOf course.ā€ Jessie says, you can almost feel her relax into the bed slightly. She moves around, covering herself with the throw blanket that rested on your bed.
ā€œYouā€™re not mad?ā€ Finally having the courage to speak, you ask, slightly terrified of what the answer might be.
ā€œWhy would I be mad?ā€ She turns looking at you with a hint of sadness in her expression.
ā€œI donā€™t know. I mean I started it, I made it seem like we were going to, ya know.ā€ Your hands play with the blanket.
ā€œIā€™ll never be mad at you for saying no, no one should ever get mad at you for that.ā€ Her hand finds yours, encouraging you to stop fidgeting with the blanket. ā€œWhenever youā€™re ready.ā€
ā€œOkay.ā€ You turn, swinging your legs off the bed. ā€œIā€™m going to get ready for bed, I have an extra toothbrush if you still want to spend the night.ā€
ā€œYeah, only if youā€™re sure?ā€
ā€œI am, feel free to grab clothes from my dresser, if you wanted something besides what youā€™ve got on.ā€ You point over where your dresser was against the wall. Jessie nods then moves toward the dresser opening a few drawers before finding your t-shirts. She looks through a few and then holds one up. M
ā€œCool if I take this one?ā€ She holds it up to you. You nod before heading into the bathroom. While youā€™re rummaging through your closet to find the packaged toothbrush for Jessie she joins you, your shirt now across her chest and one of your favorite pairs of sweats on her legs. You canā€™t help but feel your stomach flutter at the sight of her in your clothes.
ā€œHere ya go.ā€ You hand her the toothbrush and she walks to your sink. ā€œIā€™m going to go change, Iā€™ll be right back.ā€ Quickly throwing on sweatpants and a shirt of your own you return to the bathroom, washing your face and brushing your teeth before heading back toward your bed.
Jessie is standing at the foot of it, looking at you. ā€œDo you have a side preference?ā€ You shake your head before moving to the closest side of the bed, lifting the covers and beginning to climb in, you reach over setting an alarm for the morning. Jessie gets the idea and moves to the other side, putting her phone on the bedside table and climbing in as well.
Youā€™d never slept next to anyone in a romantic way. Sure youā€™d shared beds with teammates before but never a teammate that you also kissed, and hugged, and lov-, really liked. You feel your face heating up at the near confession that just happened in your brain.
Despite the darkness of your room, Jessie somehow could see right through you. ā€œJust lay how you normally would, pretend Iā€™m not here.ā€ Following her instructions you roll off your back and onto your side, facing away from Jessie. ā€œThere ya go.ā€ Staring at the rest of your bedroom you canā€™t see, but feel the bed shift as Jessie moves around. ā€œIs it okay if I lay behind you?ā€
ā€œYeah go ahead.ā€ As you give her permission, Jessie moves and you suddenly feel her legs against yours before her chest is against your back.
ā€œCan I put my arm around you?ā€ Instead of verbally answering, you reach an arm of your own back, finding Jessieā€™s wrist and pulling her forward so her arm draped across your middle. ā€œYou comfortable?ā€ She checked in with you.
ā€œYeah, Iā€™m good.ā€ That was mostly the truth, you were more comfortable than before, and Jessieā€™s body against yours was a welcomed warmth, but that didnā€™t mean it calmed your mind fully. Your mind was still thinking about how it had felt to have Jessie on top of you, your legs wrapped around her waist as she ever so slightly had rolled her hips, how it felt for her hands to be under your shirt, how her lips felt on your neck, and while you had loved all those things, you couldnā€™t stop thinking about how embarrassed you felt.
Here you were, an adult, still terrified of physical intimacy. You wanted it, you just couldnā€™t. It made it all too real. ā€œIā€™m sorry.ā€ Itā€™s a weak apology from you that has Jessie immediately shushing in your ear.
She places a kiss to your shoulder and tightens her grip on your waist. ā€œGo to sleep babe, nothing to be sorry for.ā€

Alrighty, here we go. Act III.
Mostly Jayce and Viktor centric, but with some wider thoughts as a whole thrown in. As usual, this is all my opinion, youā€™re free to disagree with me. Just donā€™t be a dick.
I am torn. Iā€™m appreciative of the visuals and the JayVik crumbs (even though Christian Linkeā€™s comments post-show have soured it to queerbait for me). But mostly I am disappointed. And I so badly didnā€™t want to be. I had such high hopes (and thatā€™s probably my fault. I expected too much). They completely massacred Viktorā€™s character. There was such beautiful setup in season one of his background as a Zaunite living in Piltover. So much of his lived experience came from thatā€”the oppression, the inequality, the xenophobia, the inaccessibility. It formed his opinions and his values, and thatā€™s why he was so adamantly anti-weapon making. Thatā€™s why his number one goal was always to help the people in need down in Zaun. They showed us that he was a tinkerer and a builder, that he valued the ingenuity in machinery. They gave us that cute little boat from his childhood and the fucking Hexclaw.
Viktor was supposed to be a Zaunite champion. He was supposed to embrace Techmaturgy as a direct opposition to magic/Hextech. He was supposed to undergo his transformation into the Machine Herald of his own volition, with his own agency and bodily autonomy (yes I know it also stemmed from severe depression and one could argue that it messed with his decision-making, but stillā€¦ he did that shit on his own). And there were so many opportunities to go this route in Arcane, and it would have worked!! If Viktor augmented his hand and his leg, but it cost Sky her life, he could realize the cost of magic, and turn to Tech. He could have been exiled back to Zaun, where he was supposed to be, and then the shitshow really could have unfoldedā€”having one of Hextechā€™s creators now working for the other side.
And I know they had to change it so that he could be a bigger part of the overall narrative, as his original lore was rather disconnected. But there were much cleaner ways to go about it than disrespecting his entire character arc by turning him into a grimdark edgelord ethereal magic Jesus who no longer notices or even seems to care about the oppression and class warfare going on in his birthplace. Like. Iā€™m sorry, him ā€œcuringā€ Salo? OG Viktor would have taken one look at a representative of the very oppression he stood against and blown him to kingdom come. (And yes, I also realize that he did it in Arcane because he was ā€œunder the influenceā€ of the Hexcore, which only wanted to ā€œinfect more people.ā€ But thatā€™s another problem I have. This was never really made all that clear. And watching him go from ā€œwe will not be building weapons, thatā€™s not why we invented Hextech/there is always a choice/we were meant to improve lives, not to take themā€ to making him turn human beings into weapons?? I donā€™t care that they tried to salvage his character by suggesting he wasnā€™t in control, it still undermines everything about him. And GOD, original League Vik had so much DEPTH. He was a hypocrite, he was still partly human and so he retained pieces/parts of all the things he preached against, which made him a wonderful contradiction. And he had a sense of humor and whimsy too! He enjoyed sweet milk, he cracked dry jokes and was sarcastic as fuck. He had a personality! And now heā€™s justā€¦ empty space man blinded by forced apathy.
And I think all of this is part of a larger problemā€”they wanted to use Arcane as a stepping stone to future shows, and as such, the class warfare and systemic oppression plot from season one was completely abandoned. They tried to solve it with ā€œwell they have to band together to face a bigger enemy.ā€ Which in my personal opinion is a cheap cop out. There are always bigger fish, that doesnā€™t change the fact that Zaun has been living in Piltoverā€™s filth with Piltoverā€™s boot on their neck for generations. Theyā€™ve suffered injustices most of us canā€™t even comprehend. And then suddenly weā€™re supposed to believe they all band together to face this threat, stand side by side with their oppressors because Jayce made one speech about it? With no proof? And then all they get from the deal is one Zaunite seat on the council? And theyā€™re okay with that? I never expected the show to solve systemic oppression, but I also didnā€™t expect them to abandon it this spectacularly.
The Noxus/Black Rose plot was clearly thrown in to set up future shows, and to show Netflix/investors/whoever that this massive financial investment has a future. And it destroyed the Piltover/Zaun story. I think this could have been a totally isolated story just about Piltover and Zaun, and been completely successful. In fact, I would have definitely watched future projects despite them not taking place in the setting of Arcane. And Iā€™m not at all saying I donā€™t like Ambessa and Mel. I was very intrigued by the story of a warmonger like Ambessa facing her comeuppance, not just for her warmongering but for her affair with a damn MAGE. And her daughter trying desperately to break the mold her mother has set for her, while also struggling with who she is and these new, incredible powers she has. That shit is juicy as hell, and honestly should have been its own show. But throwing it into Arcane in season 2 with absolutely no hint of the Black Rose or its impending approach (beyond ā€œthe people who killed your brother donā€™t think the score is settledā€) in season one, it just felt like the aforementioned cop out to get Piltover and Zaun to get along. And in doing so, they steamrolled Viktor to make him a bigger player in the narrative.
Did I like the final astral plane scene with Jayce and Viktor? God, yes. Is it one of the most beautiful confessions of love and eternal devotion I think Iā€™ve ever fucking seen? Also yes. But it kinda feels like a bandaid on a bullet wound. I got the love I always knew remained between Jayce and Viktor, but I paid for it with Viktorā€™s entire character. Not to mention Christian Linke keeps pouring salt in the fucking wound, denouncing JayVik and ā€œbromancingā€ them, and then also suggesting in one interview that Jayce and Viktor are actually fucking dead, and in another that Viktor will be back in future projects (with no mention of Jayce, which suggests that theyā€™re turning him into Sky 2.0 and that heā€™s dead but Viktor isnā€™t). And that completely undermines the entire ending of season 2ā€™s ā€œintrinsically entwined/always you/in every universe.ā€ And I know, I shouldnā€™t listen to this dudeā€™s opinion on the matter, heā€™s not the only one making this thing, and honestly it was the easiest unfollow/mute of my life. But how hard is it to just shut the fuck up and let people enjoy things? To not comment one way or the other, let people think what they want, and rake in your millions in the process? Havenā€™t you ever heard of rainbow capitalism, my guy?
Ugh. Iā€™m very sorry for being so negative, I didnā€™t want to be. I still love the show, and Iā€™d still like to keep writing JayVik, even though itā€™s just been made near-impossible (Iā€™m actually really glad that I never finished Oasis now, cuz I can go back to that and expand it well beyond what I originally planned cuzā€¦ itā€™s all I have left). Iā€™m just mourning my cyborg wife, and the fact that goddamn SMEECH had what Viktor was supposed to. Hopefully the more time goes on, I can reconcile these changes and embrace them, cuz I love this fandom, I love this ship, and I donā€™t wanna lose it.
Anyway, I will still be sharing art and memes and posting analyses, because you can like a piece of media and still be critical of it.

If Lil Silver got arrested [Iā€™ll leave it up to your imagination what his charges are], what would the TWST main castā€™s reactions be? And maybe the NRC staff too please, if itā€™s not too large of an ask? ā™”ā™„ļøŽā™”
Let's make this a continuation of this post. Little Silver got caught stealing his own work out of the gallery. Thankfully, Crewel was able to clear things up with the police and no arrest was made.
Tumblr media
Fellow student reactions are roughly as follows:
Ace, Deuce, and Epel are worried. They were with him when the crime took place. Ace kind of feels guilty because he's the one who joked about taking the painting back, only for Little Silver to actually do it.
The Diasomnia crew hear about the arrest after Little Silver gets home. Sebek can't believe someone in this dorm would dare sully Malleus' name by getting arrested. Lilia thinks it's hilarious. Malleus and Big Silver are mostly confused. Why the heck was their little princess trying to rob a gallery? They're only more confused after learning that it was his own art getting "stolen."
The Octavinelle group are not surprised that it happened (given that they'd previously staged their own mini heist in Book 3). They are, however, surprised that Little Silver got caught. Floyd is disappointed that there wasn't a high-speed chase involved.
Trey hears about it from Riddle, who got the story from Cater, who got a very poorly-explained retelling from Ace and Deuce at the same time. Trey comes away thinking that Little Silver punched a guard while Grim set the floor on fire and rigged traps along the escape path. He also thinks it was just a weird dream that Deuce had...until he hears Jamil scolding Silver for getting into trouble.
Kalim, like Trey, got the story from Cater and immediately ran to Little Silver to hear about it in detail. He's a little disappointed at the lack of explosive trip wire. Jamil asks Little Silver to please don't be a bad influence on Kalim. He's so tired.
Idia, Leona, and Vil all hear rumors of rumors of rumors and get so sick of the increasingly exaggerated story that they just shut down any mention of it. Vil, in particular, has to tell Rook to stop regaling him with nonsense about the "master criminal" that the stories turned Little Silver into. After all, look at the kid! That's not the face of a criminal. That's the face of an idiot.
Anyone not on this list has even less emotional investment in the tale than Leona.
As for the adults, Crewel is the one who kept the poor princess out of jail. He was partially worried for his own sake, and partially trying to keep any problems from reaching Crowley. He did not want to hear a big bird man whine about how his students are turning into thieves.
The big bird man almost started whining anyway, until Crewel explained that Little Silver apologized and the misunderstanding was cleared up. He's not even banned from the gallery. All is well. Upon hearing that there is no longer a problem, Crowley gave a thumbs up and went back to running from his responsibilities work.
Trein gave a disappointed frown, but by that point Little Silver had been quite thoroughly chastised. No further lectures were given.
Vargas and Sam both had a good laugh at the story and let that be that.

Jason Todd Meta: My opinion on the csa headcanon
Tumblr media
Does Jason's behaviour suggest he was a victim of csa?
There is very little, in terms of clinical signs, thatā€™s going to point to csa specifically, because most symptoms, for psychiatric disorders, arenā€™t specific to one disorder or cause. One thing thatā€™s usually a good hint would be children making very sexual statements/references/jokes/behaviours that are very inappropriate in context (a good example of this would be Roman Roy from Succession); night terrors are bed wettings amongst children/teenagers over a certain age. But that is absolutely not necessary: many, if not most victims of csa donā€™t display these specific signs, and a twelve years old that suffers from night terrors is not necessarily a victim of csa. The one thing that tells you for sure, in a person with trauma, that they have been a victim of csa, is that theyā€™re telling you they have been a victim of csa. Iā€™m insisting on that part because thereā€™s a whole bunch of therapists (cough cough psychanalysts) that will tell you confidently that your psychiatric symptoms stem from a childhood sexual trauma (cherry on top of the shit cake if itā€™s incestuous) that you didnā€™t know about because youā€™ve repressed it. I repeat, thatā€™s bullshit. If you meet a clinician who tells you that, RUN. So, a warning: this is probably the least ā€œpsychological analysisā€ of my ā€œJason psychological analysis postsā€, because Jasonā€™s symptoms do not allow us to conclude formally for or against a history of sexual abuse. But that doesnā€™t mean we canā€™t do some meta, make sure we're on the same page with what's analyzed here, some textual analysis, discuss what the csa headcanon does and does not imply in terms of his behaviour. I think itā€™s a good idea to start with it so we know where weā€™re standing with our analysis, regardless of the fact itā€™s maybe not the most interesting in terms of psychopathology and neuropsychology.
A couple of disclaimers:
I only talk about the comics I want to talk about. This is for two reasons, which are that 1) I do what I want and if I donā€™t like/donā€™t find something interesting, Iā€™m not gonna waste time on it; and 2) Iā€™ve been reading comics for a couple of months only, and there are, like, a lot of them. If there are comics you wanna see analysed under that lense, feel free to suggest them! I might not want to, but it also could be that I havenā€™t read them yet. Additionally, I'm not interested in questioning the morality of Jason's actions here. Ethics are fun, and I like talking about them sometimes, and morality sometimes has a place in talks about demonization but largely speaking this isn't the space for that. I separate talk about morality and psychology stuff as much as I can for a reason, so if you are looking here for excuses for his behaviour or arguments as to why he is a bad person, you're in the wrong place. Moral judgement is irrelevant here for the most part.
On the events of Red Hood: Lost Days:
Jason has, at some point in the comics, been a victim of csa. When Talia kisses Jason before pushing him off a cliff right after he got out of the Lazarus Pit, and when she initiates sex with him in Lost Days, thatā€™s not consent!! Thatā€™s a grown woman taking advantage of a traumatized teenager who is, on top of that, deeply indebted to her. Thatā€™s a predatory act, with a steep power imbalance, itā€™s sexual assault, and on top of that thereā€™s an element of suggested pseudo-incest. That decision was retconned, and thank god, because it was a brutal assassination of Taliaā€™s character based on a good bit of racism, and also because the way it was portrayed doesnā€™t make it clear that Jason is a victim in a situation rather than that super annoying trope of ā€œteenage guy gets to bang a hot MILF and hahaha lucky himā€, writing a male character in a situation of SA without acknowledging it as SA or taking it seriously is one of the tropes I hate most, it reinforces stigmatisation and isolates victims. For all of these reasons, Iā€™m not gonna include that element in my analysis, but itā€™s important to note that if you do include those scenes in your conception of it, then Jason is undeniably a victim of csa and everything discussed about it applies to him.
What if it were a lie?
Iā€™ve said it before (and Iā€™ll say it again), I deeply, violently hate headcanons/tropes where a character lies about being a victim of csa (whether itā€™s for manipulation, personal gain, any reason really I donā€™t care). Itā€™s rare as fuck in real life, however itā€™s a common trope that feeds into fear of being wrongfully accused that causes push-back and increases social stigmatization. CSA is a painful thing associated with intense feelings of shame and already a deep fear of not being believed. Imagine making a considerable effort to seek help after something terrible happened/is happening to you, and you have to brave your fear of not being believed on top of that, and once youā€™ve made all that effort you get rejected and villainized because itā€™s just easier for the person youā€™re reaching out to not to believe it. So Iā€™m awfully weary of this type of headcanon, and I think a general rule of thumb is ā€œif your interpretation of what the character is saying is that heā€™s talking about how he was abused, especially if heā€™s talking about sexual assault, then it happened.ā€ If you donā€™t like that, if you donā€™t feel like thatā€™s good representation, then you can question the story, think it should be retconned, or rethink your interpretation of what the character says if itā€™s ambiguous, but hcing that the character lied about his assault is not a hypothesis weā€™re going to accept here no matter what. So we can start by scratching that one out: Jason never lies about being a victim of csa, or wilfully hints at it even though thatā€™s untrue, at any point.
Two other ideas Iā€™ve seen floating around that I think are worth mentioning:
No, just because Jason lived in the streets as a kid doesnā€™t mean the only way he survived was through underage prostitution. I genuinely donā€™t understand that idea, yes being a street kid makes you extremely vulnerable, yes it makes the risk of resolving to underage prostitution to survive higher but itā€™s absolutely not a fatality. That idea is, quite frankly, weird. Do you automatically assume if a real life person tells you they were in the streets for some time at a kid that they are a victim of csa? Also, I've seen the idea go around that because some people have a strong reading/hc of Jason as bi (which I have no problem with I love bi Jason), that would be an argument in favour of the csa hc. Please donā€™t do that. Thereā€™s no link between queer sexual orientations and childhood sexual abuse, thatā€™s a harmful myth that we should work to deconstruct or, at the very least, not continue to vehiculate.
Another important thing to keep in mind: childhood sexual abuse =/= childhood sexual trauma.
Now, a traumagenic situation is a situation that might induce trauma (so development of, acute stress disorder, ptsd, cptsd, derealization, any traumatic pathology really). These situations exist on a continuum of probability to be traumatized by this situation. For example, a flood, a car accident, witnessing a murder and being sexually assaulted are all traumagenic situations, but the probability of developing trauma from them are very different. It hinges on personal, situational, social, and environmental risk factors (that have nothing to do with being weak, anybody can develop trauma). A definition for traumagenic situations can be found in the diagnostic criteria for ptsd in the dsm-5:
A. ā€œExposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence in one (or more) of the following ways:
1. Directly experiencing the traumatic event(s).
2. Witnessing, in person, the event(s) as it occurred to others.
3. Learning that the traumatic event(s) occurred to a close family member or close friend. In cases of actual or threatened death of a family member or friend, the event(s) must have been violent or accidental.
4. Experiencing repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic event(s) (e.g., first responders collecting human remains; police officers repeatedly exposed to details of child abuse). Note: Criterion A4 does not apply to exposure through electronic media, television, movies, or pictures, unless this exposure is work related.ā€
Note that the this last criteria has been added from the DSM-5 in order to explain cases of PTSD observed in at-risk jobs like cops exposed to repeated detailed child abuse, first responders collecting human remains, or, crucially, vigilantes repeatedly exposed to brutal crimes. This means that Jason, when he works on the Dumpster Slasher case, when he is horrified to find Gloria in the immediate aftermath of her rape (and later finds her dead body, because witnessing the consequences of these traumatic events is also an important component of that second-hand trauma), is being exposed to a very traumagenic situation. As I said before, that doesnā€™t necessarily mean you will experience trauma (thank fuck for that), but there are factors that influence that. SA related situations has an already pretty high probability of inducing trauma. On top of that, age is a big factor in that: the younger you are, the less resources, emotional regulation, development and coping mechanisms to face the traumagenic event you have (though there is such a thing as ā€œtoo young to have PTSD" -when your memory is simply not developed enough for the memory to traumatize you because you will not remember the event.) At fifteen, with his memory fully developed but his brain going through so much changes because of teenagehood and his past history, Jason would be at risk. On top of that, youā€™re more at risk to get traumatized if youā€™re already stressed out when the event happens, so Jasonā€™s mental state at this point in his robin run is also a risk factor. All to say, itā€™s very plausible for Jason to have sexual trauma without being a victim of sexual abuse in relation to canon events. Besides, in headcanon territory when it comes to Jasonā€™s childhood before Robin, there are so many ways to be exposed to sexual violence : witnessing/finding his mother being a victim (considering the position of extreme vulnerability Catherine was in), witnessing assault in the streets, being the victim of attempted SA and escaping, watching street kids get picked up and later find their bodies/being told by other kids, as a cautionary tale, in excruciating detail, testimonies of their own assaultā€¦ Or for example, if weā€™re thinking about Arkham Knight, being constantly threatened with SA, it being hinted and joked about and hanging over him like a sword of Damocles is something I could see Joker and other inmates do that could definitely induce sexual trauma even if it doesnā€™t happen ; what matters most, in trauma, is that the fear is real. Mechanically, when weā€™re looking at the way trauma works even on a biological level, the overwhelming fear is at the core of the pathology. (This is also why you can develop PTSD after a psychotic episode.) Like, my point isnā€™t that one of these things happened to Jason, or that he has to have sexual trauma from the events of the Diplomatā€™s Son or anything -mostly just that this is a possibility, something very serious that happens and an important nuance that I never see in discussions on the csa headcanon, and while itā€™s not exactly what the debate is about, I think itā€™s something important to ponder.
Do you consider the csa hc to be canon?
So, there are a lot of Jason stories, and Iā€™m very pro ā€œnot take in account what is said in comics you dislike in your conception of canonā€ because if I did that absolutely no bat character would be readable, I have to believe that no character is defined by their worst writers. And boy, does Jason have a lot of bad writingā€¦ On top of the personal retcons, there are also the canon retcons: like Battle for The Cowl is retconnedā€¦ Unless someone decides to reinject/revamp it into the narrative (please donā€™t please donā€™t itā€™s irrecuperable let it lay with the Flying Todds where it belongs). So, letā€™s see. There are three writers/arcs that imply/mention the csa hc: Starlinā€™s writing of Jasonā€™s post-crisis Robin Run (canon though some stuff in it seems to have been retconned), Winickā€™s writing in Green Arrow: Seeing Red (canon as far as I know), and Battle for the Cowl (retconned). Itā€™s worth noting that one of those are considered to be foundational works for Jasonā€™s character (Jasonā€™s post crisis Robin Run and Starlinā€™s part in it), and another was written by Winick, who wrote the other two foundational Jason stories: Under The Red Hood and Red Hood: Lost Days. On a personal level, Iā€™m very mitigated about what I like and accept about it. I base my whole love and characterization of Jason about his post-crisis Robin Run, I love that little guy so much, Starlinā€™s take on Jasonā€™s Robin Run is absolutely canon to me (which does not mean I like Starlin as a writer, thank you very much). On the other hand of the spectrum, the only reason Battle for the Cowl isnā€™t my least favourite comic ever is because The Killing Joke exists, absolutely not canon, get this thing away from me. And then in the middle, my feelings on Seeing Red (on the entirety of Winickā€™s Jason really) vary depending on the day, because I do like a revenge story that challenges the status quo with tropes of ā€œbad victimā€ and it sets up Jason as a character based on love rather than morals which I adore, but there are also some elements of psychophobia in the writing that I (who approach stories through the filter of psychopathology first and foremost) canā€™t just look past, and also the way it intertwines with classist stereotypes. So do I consider Seeing Red to be canon? In good faith, yes, but whether Iā€™ll accept it as such really depends on the day. In terms of the csa headcanon: itā€™s heavily hinted in BTFC but not outright said, itā€™s there as a undercurrent in Starlinā€™s run because of his intention (to make Jason die of AIDS). And then we have Seeing Red. Basically Jason lists elements about Miaā€™s life, including her past with underage prostitution (so, just to be very clear, csa), and says theyā€™re very similar, having both lived on the streets, and understand having to do bad things when itā€™s necessary. This is not the same as saying ā€œI was a victim of csaā€, and what heā€™s saying could be interpreted differently (we know that he was stealing tires, and ā€œonly what he needs to surviveā€, so he could have been referencing small-time theft.) So, it could be a reference to something else, I totally understand why some people want to interpret differently. It justā€¦ Feels like such a weird and weak argument to be equating boosting tires to underage prostitution, to me itā€™s very ooc (in comparison to UTH Jason), and it would feel like weak writing from someone like Winick. Aka itā€™s not technically canon, and you donā€™t have to accept it as such(I understand the mentality of "I'm rejecting this interpretation because it feels like demonization of csa victims" perfectly), but personally I think it takes a lot from Jasonā€™s character in Seeing Red and from this story in general.

Kirishima, Bakugo + Sero with a really rich S/O
Tumblr media
A/N: Thanks for sending in a prompt! I added Sero bc im a simpĀ  because he would be fun to write in this context as well!! I hope you ( the reader ) are also doing well!
Sero Hanta
- He makes it pretty clear early on that he doesnā€™t like you for your money and doesnā€™t want you to spend more money than needed on him.
- You will give him little gifts randomly which he loves no matter how much he protests that he doesnā€™t want you buying stuff for him.
- Sero treasures those little trinkets that you give him; probably has a self dedicated to your guys pictures and the lil gifts.
- !! matching fits !!
- This dude has style, he has taste, Sero is by no means a style disaster
- His style is more street style; might flirt a bit with the tech wear style.
- Matching t-shirts, maybe overall aesthetics
- One thing you do for him is help him with his phone.
- I headcanon that this dude probably drops his phone
Kirishima Eijiro
- He thinks its super manly you want to buy and gift him things as a physical piece of proof of you feelings for him.
- He really likes your gifts and will give you kisses and hugs as a thank you, every single time.
- Probably prefers things that have a sentimental value to him or are part of some kind of inside joke yā€™all have
- !! promise rings !!
- He would wear his when he isnā€™t training but at some point he would attach it to a thin gold chain to match the simple gold promise ring you bought for him
- 100% has yā€™alls name written on the inside of the ring.
- when he misses you a lot he will hold the ring, rub the ring, maybe kiss it :ā€™(
Bakugo Katsuki
- this lil bitch dresses really plainly despite having designer parents.
- He has taste and has a phenomenal style but doesnā€™t really dress up because he has other things to focus on.
Ā - He will totally be all like ā€œ donā€™t buy shit for me dumb ass I donā€™t need to clutter my room with your bullshit.ā€
- Absolutely will send you posts of pricey fashion pieces that he likes; he will only say that he likes them and you will buy them is up to you or not.
Ā - Sometimes he will remind you that he likes you because you are the best

The girls having to always justify and defend their relationship to the people around them post-Amphibia. No one takes them seriously. Firstly, they're so young, and when kids their age date, it's practically play pretend. No teenager is gonna have a relationship that mature, serious and committed, and the fact that Anne, Sasha and Marcy see theirs in those terms only speaks of how delusional they are. Which touches on the next point: everyone knows they went missing together, and when they came back, they were different, visibly traumatized and with obvious scars. People were already taken aback by the scar on Sasha's face - the most visible one, undeniably - but the whole cheerleader squad freaked out the first time they saw her back in the changing rooms. Not to mention the change in behavior and the sheer clinginess with which they treat each other. It's weird. Like, they're, what, 15 by now? They're not 5, jeez, do they need to hold hands all the time? Anyway, yeah, this whole "three person relationship" they insist on is clearly a trauma response. They grew so attached to each other for survival that now they can't have normal platonic or romantic relationships, poor things. The fact that they're all girls plays a minor role, too, because relationships between girls are already taken less serious in general. Like, ah, yes, your "girl friend". Don't you want a real relationship? You know, how do you know you don't like boys if you never gave them a chance? And maybe this last one would be insignificant compared to their other struggles if the fact that it's three of them didn't exacerbate it already. If two girls dating are often reduced to being friends, three girls dating is a joke, right? Like, this is literally just a friend group. People will be asking Anne out when Sasha and Marcy are right there and they made it clear that she's taken. 0 respect at all. Actually, the fact that they're three people is the main element people cling to to invalidate them. Right. Three teenage girls in a relationship. Do you hear yourself? Do they even know what they're talking about? You can't have a committed relationship with two people. In fact, you can't know what a committed relationship is at that age. This is clearly just a game and a coping mechanism, and their parents humor them as to not upset them, and because they seem genuinely happy together, but they're worried, and when one year passes, two years, three, four, five, and they don't seem to grow out of their little delusion, they're actively concerned and trying to take action, especially when they start talking about going to college together like - hold on, are they planning to do this forever?

āœ§ą¼ŗā™„ą¼»āœ§āœ§ą¼ŗā™„ą¼»āœ§āœ§ą¼ŗā™„ą¼»āœ§
Tumblr media
Mr. Hood
When he first met you he felt like needed to protect you, like you were a tiny creature that was so helpless and needed him.
He never expected you to come back and thank him each time.
"Thanking me? Why? "
It seems that no one there is kind or even grateful, he's never been thanked. It feels nice, warm.
Then you do it again, and again, and again.
He expected you to leave, use his help and never come back, but you did.
As the rest he never realizes what love is bit he feels protective of you.
Mr Crawling is too weak and Mr machete runs away. He's the only one capable of protecting you
Tumblr media
Mr. Machete
Now this guy can't handle weaklings or kind soft people, sorry not sorry.
If you can't keep up with him and fight why would he bother with you?
Now let's say you can fight. He's intrigued. Very intrigued.
It takes you very long time even land a hot on him but when you do.. His heart goes doki doki and he immediately respects you (loves you)
He will demand to fight again and each time you win he will be bashful instead of upset.
Wow you got a hit on THE Mr machete.
Tumblr media
Mr. Silvair
You're a human in the ghost realm so you've already got his attention.
He wants to research you and push you to your limits.
He does ask for consent to work on you but if you get violet you're ending up like Mr chopped.
He has clear boundaries and needs you to understand that he is stronger than you. You're the subject, he's the researcher.
Now if you get through all of that he'll be kind enough to give you anesthesia when researching.
One day you wake up with an actual heart on your bedside table. That's his gratitude. Never mention it again or he'll never love you again.
From then on he considers you two lovers and will sometimes give you small smiles as he works and teach you stuff.
Tumblr media
Mr. Hugeface.
Tiny human, so fun, so cute.
Literally incapable of love only obsession.
If you're kind enough to obey him and be his little doll. Be obedient in your room maybe he'll get you a few gifts, a book or two.
He's so childish and will throw a tantrum if his doll is not perfect. How dare you have messy hair!?
Will get you clothes and style your hair like you're a Barbie.
That's your life now eternally. You're a doll. And perfect dolls are always pretty and happy.
All throughout toxic.
Tumblr media
Mr. Stitch
This man is perfect for maladaptive daydreamers.
You met him when he took you from Mr Crawling, well kidnapped you, but when you get in that bus, you travel in the abyss with him.
Ever since then, that became you two's favorite hobby. To get on the bus, share stories, cuddle a bit, he will Yap to no end and tell you of his adventures and how he plans to take you on many!
He shows love by making you little things, like old cloth you found? It's a dress now. He isn't called Mr stitch for no reason.
You were heitamt at first but then the world of daydreams and the abyss with no stress takes you like a dream.
You love him just as much.
He thinks you're a fun person who treats him well and laughs with him.
Most of your time is spent giggling at his jokes and he likes that.
No matter where or when he picks you up, when he does you're going to adventure.

Alone on Thanksgiving? (adamsapple)
Working on a fic using this ad as a prompt because all I can think of is Adam making this post:
Tumblr media
Not done yet but I think if I manage to finish it, Iā€™ll put it on AO3. What I have written under the cut:
Adam had placed the ad out of sheer perverse humor, absolutely certain that no one would bother to call him on it. For a short while, he achieved some internet fame as people passed it around on social media, obviously getting a kick out of the idea. Heā€™d joked around with the girls at the bar and tattoo parlor he worked at, saying his Thanksgiving plans were all wrapped up and this was the way heā€™d be swimming in pussy by the end of the month.
Obviously, the whole thing was meant as a fucking joke. So, when he got the email from a Charlotte Morningstar, heā€™d been tempted to send her back something rude about her reading comprehension. Like, was it not clear that this was comedy? The fuck.Ā
He showed it to Lute, who was in the middle of sketching out something for a client: a lion, holding a dagger in its mouth. Her skilled fingers easily traced out the minute details of the animalā€™s mane, her mouth set into a frown in concentration. The frown slipped into a wicked smirk as she read the email, her eyes lighting up slightly.Ā
ā€œWhatā€™s the problem?ā€ she asked, setting her pencil down and giving him an expression that attempted innocent curiosity. Luteā€™s face wasnā€™t made for that, and her sharp amusement made her look like a cat waiting on a mouse to walk into a trap. ā€œI thought this was your big holiday plan. I thought you were looking forward to all the ladies with daddy issues and the ā€˜fuck you dadā€™ sex.ā€
Going to Lute for sympathy for his bad decisions never turned out right, but for some reason he kept trying it. He just grumbled and put the phone back in his pocket.
ā€œAnyway, why not do it?ā€ Lute asked, turning back to her sketch. ā€œItā€™s free dinner. Your ass doesnā€™t have family to go to on Thanksgiving. Iā€™m too busy this year to do our usual ā€˜neither of us can cookā€™ dinner. Youā€™re extremely good at being an annoying asshole, why not turn it into a fun way to get free turkey?ā€
Adam folded his arms and tried to be more insulted about that accusation, but the wheels in his head were already turning. Unfortunately. It wasnā€™t even as though this would be the worst decision heā€™d made on a holiday, really. That would have been the time one of his biker friends convinced him to dress like the grinch and steal their ex-girlfriendā€™s Christmas tree.Ā
The night had ended in mayhem, with the tree sparking a minor electrical fire and Adam ending up tossing it into the outdoor pool. And then ripping off chunks of flaming grinch suit, screaming, as his accomplice hosed him down.Ā
Apparently, the ex-girlfriendā€™s kid still had nightmares from watching it out his bedroom window.Ā
Compared to that shitshow, this would only be a minor sort of shenanigan. Probably something he wouldnā€™t walk away with a property damage felony with. It wasnā€™t technically illegal to pick fights by antagonizing someoneā€™s probably elderly, decrepit dad. Unless he, like, actually punched him. And Adam had some amount of self control as long as he didnā€™t dip into the recreational beverages.Ā
ā€œWell? Figured out what youā€™re doing yet?ā€ Lute asked, looking up at him from her spread out stack of sketches. Someone seemed to have ordered one of a goth bear holding a chainsaw. The holidays always brought out the weird shit.
He shrugged, mulling it over. The girl had a whole screed laid out, with a father who was being a dick about her attempts to house and reform former criminals. Sheā€™d gone on some rant about the program itself and he zoned out every time he tried to read it, the whole thing seemed like she was some kind of charity ball debutante getting pissy about her dad giving her some hard truths.
Not like it mattered either way to him, in the end, as long as he got a dinner. Adam would be lying if he said it didnā€™t sound like fun to fuck with someone and get rewarded for it.Ā
And so it came to pass that Adam decided to agree to be the fake dinner date of this do-gooder princess for Thanksgiving, with about the same amount of logical thought that went into his usual decision making. Which was to say, absolutely none.Ā

Oh good I didn't know if I was too bitchy about the bus girls. Like Gina, I don't mean to hijack your shit here but I am afraid for the world right now for the first real time in my life. The things that are happening frighten me, they're dystopian. They feel unreal and impossible and they are neither. What the fuck is going to happen I can't say but I am dreading it. I'm only in my 30s and I'm scared!
And like, I can still access that Mean Girl I was until maybe.....24? 25? That's when I started to get over myself. I'm not proud. Sometimes I still catch myself having smartass ugly thoughts as my first reaction and I have to remind myself to choose to be a better person in the moment. I know what it's like to be the judgmental bus girl. Spoiler: it's shitty. It's not edgy, it's not cool, it doesn't make you better than other people. Shitting on someone else or someone's work or making it the butt of the joke is a very low bar anybody can clear. It doesn't make you clever, it really just makes you unpleasant. People will realize you can't be trusted with their secrets and private joys because you can't be, you're probably gonna be snarky about them for a cheap laugh. You will not know real intimacy romantic or otherwise until someone believes they can trust you. Grow up. Make a modicum of effort to be a good person and learn how to talk about shit that makes things better and good and kind and happy. I'm guessing they're fans of Harry or Louis? I'm gonna use Harry here: Harry would hate that you said that shit about fic. He would hate you. Listen to the words he says, he has pleaded with his audiences to choose kindness because "the world needs it." Is it calculated? Maybe. But maybe he has seen a lot of shit and he means it. I'm gonna choose to believe him on this. Building things up is so much harder than tearing things down but I promise you I don't miss being a Mean Girl. I'm amazed I always had friends but they would have seen through me one day like I started to see through myself.
Sorry I'm really annoyed about these bus girls right now. And full disclosure, I'm sorry I too used to think fic was lame because I didn't know what the fuck I was talking about and someone should have said something even meaner to me to shut me up. I would have deserved it.
And obviously you don't have to post this I just wanted to say it to someone and like, own up and also express that I'm annoyed on behalf of all fandom creators. Fucking bus girls, shut up.
Not only am I posting it, I want to give you a hug because I fully appreciate your bus girl rant.
