Today on Posts That Will Serve As A Blocklist but whatever:

It's genuinely at the point where people who act all dismissive and superior about the Star Wars animated series, and ESPECIALLY of Ahsoka specifically as a character--snidely dismissing anything that involves TCW-original characters or arcs--are just. Objectively hysterically wrong.

Like.

Phantom Menace released in 1999.

Revenge of the Sith was six years later, in 2005.

TCW started airing in 2008. Ahsoka started existing in the narrative literally three years after RotS dropped.

Even if you start counting as far back as you possibly can, back in TPM (wherein Anakin was an actual baby), the prequel era only existed at all without her for nine years.

Ahsoka Tano has been a narratively significant, load-bearing major protagonist of the Star Wars franchise for, as of this post, sixteen (16) years. Very nearly twice as long as her era ever existed without her! At this point, if you are determined to act like she's some handwavey 'new' star war idea whose impact on the living tapestry of the GFFA can be easily dismissed, that's...

...like, full offense but that's kind of on you, man.

Regarding Demise: He is an interesting concept, as is the whole eternal cycle, but for that to actually become something worthwhile the games/stories would have to actually DO something with it. So far they are introduced in Skyward Sword and thats it! No other game even references them. And, yes, that cheapens EVERY other game because there is this implication that its all out of the control of the actual characters in the story because of this one asshole that we only ever saw once! Why not have Ganondorf realize that he is possessed/manipulated by this weird old Demon God? How would he react, would he embrace it, would he rebel, would he be broken by the realization that none of his actions were ever *his*? I dont even care which of these options they pick, as long as they pick any of it and do just ANYTHING with the concept.

Or maybe Link or Zelda figures out the Cycle and starts looking into breaking it because endlessly repeating Demon Attacks kinda suck and you dont want that for your descendants.

Or have a game focus on them remembering bits from past lives and having to piece it all together or, again, just ANYTHING!

The closest they ever came to was with BOTW Zelda praying to Hylia, aka HERSELF, to unlock her powers, which is some brutal narrative irony, but not much more.

And regarding the whole Zelda is Hylia thing, I've seen some headcanons about how Skyward Sword Zelda is terrified of herself after learning that, because she now has to assume that everything she did was planned by a version of her that she no longer is. Is Link her friend or is he the useful pawn that Hylia needs to turn into the Hero? Does she even deserve his affection when she probably manipulated him into becoming her champion and fighting, possibly dying for her all her life?

Thats juicy, thats something you can do something with but Nintendo really does like to plan those stories game per game without any care for the larger story.

Which I guess is the Irony of it all. They tried the whole larger connected story/universe thing once: With Skyward Sword. After all that was also the time we got the first Hyrule Historia & "official timeline" as well as "How it all began" in the game itself.

It felt like the start of a new era for Zelda games and stories and then it just... wasn't.

And while I get that they want to focus on gameplay over story, I will never stop mourning the stories we could get/have gotten, if they put a bit more thought into things.

I actually feel like its harder to make the 'cycle' into an interesting plot point when its a .. divine thing that happens, and not perpetuated by the people (though not impossible, given how the series is build up it would need alot of work to not make it worse still..)-

i actually cannot stand the idea that ganondorf is possessed or manipulated, made eviler by demise somehow (demise is dead, leave him beeeeee hes not some evil master mind behind anything aaaaah) bc it STILL takes away ganondorfs agency and character and gives right into the whole hes basically born evil and just pushes the fault tm onto someone else it in turn legitimizes that the kingdom of hyrule and its high rule (heehoo) is right and if only gan wasnt manipulated hed be good tm, aka allied with the goodest guys, hed gladly accept their invitation and join their holy empire of goodness tm if wasnt for da demon

(and i love to say, who decides what is good tm and evil tm? bc hyrules monarchs making every other tribe their subordinate and persecuting shiekah for example isnt what id call good but its fine bc the good holy guys did it in the name of "peace" -what is their idea of peace? everyones under their rule and must worship their god? uh oh- and resistance to it is gonna get you labelled as evil!! (unless you join their holy kingdom and become their vassal of GOOD) what good and evil boils down to in zelda is .. being allied/ruled by the kingdom of hyrule and being opposed to them, even if its only not wanting to be subjugated by them)

i can see the appeal to some degree, but i dont like the idea of ganondorf even being able to be manipulated or possessed, what makes his character, before it got flattened into well he just be demon in the eyes of the average fandom, interesting is his unbreakable will, that drive to keep on living and resisting those that want him dead, its poetic and sad, to the point that (until totk ...) it was really just ONE ganondorf that refused to die and came back over and over (also something i found a compelling thought for botw, that after all this time theres nothing left BUT his will to resist, its a tragic idea that rly spoke to me)

my personal idea of the cycle is that its only a cycle bc they, the kingdom of hyrule and their belief system, keep it going, its not a divine thing that needs to be broken (though the divine surely messes with it, just for the bit i guess) but something that keeps repeating bc hyrule is so soaked into the idea that their princess once was a god and hers is the right to rule it all in light- so anyone who doesnt agree must be of the demons from the darkness seeking to destroy the world, and what means the 'world' could just mean the kingdom of hyrule- in botw even with the calamity people went on and lived, same in windwaker, they dont need the holy kingdom to live- (who is to say the 'monsters' are bad for the land, to me they mostly looked like well adapted territorial beasts, and the bokblins etc clearly arent mindless monsters either, why do they need to be eradicated? they attack you? ok dont go into their territory, or defend yourself, you dont need to exterminate something just bc it could be a threat at some point)

(i do agree that conflict with zelda being interesting but uuuh .. well they never did anythign with that huh)

in the end, demise was just a throw away villain, and if i may get my tin foil hat back here, i feel like the whole creation myth skyward sword does was really just a way for them to get out of the predicament of having to consider a villain to be treated like a person to save themselves from having to think about what they imply and can just go, well this is the evil demons, this is the good gods- ironically enough the attempt to get out of having to consider complicated writing it ends up reversing straight back into the WORST of kinds of implications .. that arent even subtext anymore, if totk is anythign to go by, the most 'simple' or 'easy' narrative to go for might not be actually simple, just a so often retold one that it appears simple if not made aware of its dark maw, the status quo repeated ad nauseam

(and if i may, the whole gameplay over story thing is bs in my eyes, that sounds like the typical attempt of dismissing any critique, just like the stupid, and frankly, offensive "its just for kids" argument, story and gameplay are inherently intertwined, the story influences the gameplay, the gameplay influences the story, especially in a series like zelda that is a futile thing to go for and a reason why the stories themselves lack depth, how are you gonna have an epic adventure that drives you to get through any amount of puzzles and battles if there is no story to motivate you, at this point it feels like the series has set itself up for catastrophic failure bc i imagine, people might just keep buying and playing the games bc its attached to the series, bc they hope to see characters they loved return, new ones that will grab their attention, perhaps be taken away by a world that meant alot to them once before, hope that there will be something exciting-

i am not saying the series has no value or doesnt do anything well (hello who am i) but how many times can you repeat 'this guy good he fight evil guy he get the pretty princess as reward' without any interesting twists or narrative, even the most beloved characters can only keep it passable for so long, even the best gameplay loses its potential if its surrounded by cardboard characters and a story so "simple" as offensive it fits into a single page, i often wonder how a game would be seen if it wasnt titled -the legend of zelda- ..

it hurts especially when looking at its long history, how much estblished thigns it could exploit and expand, the potential the series has is still immense, it hurts to see it be wasted over and over :(

it's kinda funny that in the past year the best gay characters in (more mainstream) media are the highly dysfunctional, flat out toxic and abusive... murderous vampires

and it's simply because iwtv is wholly disinterested in existing as representation. it's clear that it's interested in exploring sexuality and other forms of marginalization (and sometimes does it well and sometimes struggles) but it's not interested in existing as a form of representing anyone other than... fucked up vampires and the people who witness them

it's a step above everyone else solely because of its disinterest in pandering to twitter conversations. it's spectacle isn't in the identities on screen--it's in the murder and the love within the murder and everything that spools out from that point on. it doesn't do something gay or talk about a race and then pause and turn to the viewer to waggle its brows at its progressiveness because it isn't interested in being that. identity and exploring what it means within the context of extremely fucked up vampires and the old man they fuck are just two threads within a much larger tapestry. it craves more.

and again this isn't to say it does that exploration perfectly or that the "more" is perfect either. it's just that... it's eons above the the competition, as flawed as it is, because of its detachment from identity politics as they exist in the 2020s. it isn't story by quota. it isn't proud of itself for how many stripes of the rainbow it collects.

Buck & Eddie: They built a family together more than 6 years ago

I've been debating for weeks if I was going to do a post on this topic because I DON'T LIKE T*MMY KINARD AND I HATE GIVING HIS CHARACTER ANY ATTENTION.

However, I decided to go ahead and post this because for some reason BT & T*mmy stans keep trying to erase Eddie by killing him off so Buck can raise Chris with him but that's ludicrous. The truth is Eddie is Chris' biological father and Chris already lost his mother so it would be REDUNDANT for TM to kill Chris' father off the show too. Also, TM said it himself, Eddie (RG) is too pretty to die so there's that... but I digress. TM allowed the character of Shannon to be hit by a car in season 2 because she was IRREDEEMABLE since the GA didn't like the way she abandoned her son for almost two years. Now her ghost returning or whatever is happening with her doppelgänger is interesting but that's not the topic of this post.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program...

It's really interesting how BT and T*mmy stans keep IGNORING THE CANON FACTS ABOUT THE CHARACTER OF T*MMY THAT HAVE BEEN PRESENTED SINCE 7X4.

But I've added them below so there won't be any misunderstandings.

T*mmy is an older man with NO KIDS of his own. If he wanted some, he would have had them by now but it's evident he's not looking to settle down and build a family of his own with anyone including Buck.

He's a representation of how Buck's life will end up if Buck keeps dating people he meets on calls or people who DON'T want the same things he wants. It's particularly evident since Buck and T*mmy look alike and they're both bachelors.

Based on the things he said in 7x4, it's likely he's dated people he met on calls before but the point is, he said dating people they saved never ended the way they expected and they were grateful, therefore, it's likely he doesn't want any kids of his own.

He's cool with Chris but not once did Eddie say he let T*mmy babysit him. Also, IIRC T*mmy never said he wanted to baby sit Chris. Buck told Maddie that Eddie introduced him to Chris not that they spent time together without Eddie being there.

Furthermore, T*mmy MAKES MORE MONEY THAN BUCK AND EVERYONE AT THE 118 (except for Bobby) because he's been a firefighter longer than all of them and he got a promotion to the 217. He literally flies helicopters and airplanes for work which means he probably makes about 250K per year (without OT) compared to their 125K to 150K but he's broke and doesn't have nice clothes. He's the Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree version of Eddie while Eddie Diaz is Cartier, Giorgio Armani and Prada. He obviously likes to spend his money on Bull$hit like car lifts, fight tickets in Las Vegas, helicopters and all that frivolous mess but keep in mind, he commented on how nice Buck's loft is so that means he blows money on $hit that doesn't matter. He doesn't know MATH either which means he won't be able to build anything solid with Buck. But guess who does know Math? EDDIE!

He said he wants the family like Buck has with the 118 but he didn't say he wanted a family of his own even though EVERYONE WHO KNOWS BUCK, KNOWS THAT'S WHAT HE WANTS. But who's already given him that? EDDIE!

The question is, how will T*mmy react when he finds out about the will? IMO he'll run away the same way Natalia did after she found out about the sperm donation. Reminder, Buck and Eddie haven't told anyone about the will. Eddie didn't tell AF, Buck didn't tell T.K. and apparently, he hasn't said anything to the male version of T.K. either. But the question is WHY? Because NOT ONCE in CANON has he ever said he wanted to build a family with Buck and guess who else didn't say it? NONE of Buck's previous love interests said it either.

Be clear, it appears T*mmy doesn't want kids and if he does, he probably doesn't want to have any with Buck. Reminder, Abby was Buck's first relationship and SHE DIDN'T WANT TO BUILD A FAMILY WITH HIM. But she went to Europe and found a man who already had two kids then she returned and never apologized to him for ghosting him.

So... for those who keep trying to act like T*mmy is different from any of the women Buck's dated, you're wrong because he's not. The only difference is he's a man but he's just like Taylor, Abby, Ali and Natalia because all T*mmy wants is a good time and he doesn't want to build a family with Buck.

Buck wants a husband, a child and a family WITH EDDIE DIAZ! And the truth is Eddie's already given him a son, a family and a couch.

Eddie Diaz chose Buck years ago and he put Buck in his will because he's in love with him. They'll be together forever while T*mmy continues to run around buying Bull$hit like helicopters while he remains single 🤪😜🙃.

I think when soap and ghost retire - if they retire - years and years down the line they'd adopt a little girl. They always liked the idea of adopting. Simon vowed that if he ever got the chance, he'd give whatever child or children they had the best life possible, They'd never have to go though what he did, he'd protect his family. And soap always wanted a kid or two. Maybe not quite as many as his parents, but he loved the idea of one day having children, even if he knew it would have wait for future soap if ever.

They couldn't not adopt her.

Not when they'd walked in to that building with zero expectations, well, maybe they expected the sight of two big burly men to be a bit intimidating, to the younger kids at least.

The older kids, whom they'd met first, seemed intrigued at first, but they asked seeing as how they were old enough to make complex decisions. It turned out that they were mostly just interested by the new people to meet, they were about ready to age out of the system at that point and they all knew. They talked for a bit, got to know everyone as people, and provided phone numbers when they parted incase any of them got into trouble or wanted to stay in contact.

Then when it came to meeting the little kids, they were pretty shy as expected. All except for one little girl, maybe 5 or 6, with a faded pink bunny-blankie wrapped in one arm. She marched right up to them, and asked if they'd attend her tea party, she had two empty seats to fill. She said her name was Maizee.

An they knew right then that she was gonna be their's.

The would like to say that it was a breeze to get adoption in order. But realistically they're two very traumatized, gay military men, the system does not favor them. There were many processes and hoops to jump through, but they got there eventually.

They spoil Maizee so bad, she gets only the best, but they make sure to teach her kindness and about the real world. They protect her but don't shelter her.

She becomes ghost's baby girl, and soaps sweetheart, they both call her bug because she's their little luvbug. Ghost becomes daddy, and soap is pops. Her first partner had to get The Talk(tm) from daddy and pops. They didn't care who she dated, just as long as they treated her good. She just rolled her eyes and said not to take any of ot to heart, especially since they all knew she could take care of herself.

The three of them stayed close, even through her rebellious teenage phase. They understood that she needed to be able to find herself. So instead of banning her from doing the dangerous stuff she would inevitably do without their permission anyway, they taught her how to do it safely, and they taught her how to protect herself, and how to get help if she ever needed, and reminded her that they would always come get her no questions asked if she needed.
