I feel like I see plenty of fandom posts about how Jonathan “I was a deeply annoying child” Sims is autistic but almost none about how Martin “Stop trying to touch the plastic explosive!” Blackwood is obviously ADHD. I see so many little signs!
Ep 4: Jon sends Sasha to double check Martin’s work. Jon was an ass at the time, but also, this is definitely a relatable ADHD experience.
Ep 40: The way he talks about accidentally running away from Prentiss on his own, thinking that Jon and Tim were right behind him but being too overwhelmed with things to check. Even his sad little “it was an accident!” feels like someone repeatedly accused of making mistakes on purpose because no one can understand how you’d be so careless unless you truly didn’t care.
That aside, Jon did notice that Martin was more competent than usual during the attack. it’s a common ADHD thing to be more competent in a crisis than while doing routine work.
Ep 56: When he was confronted about Trevor, he immediately defaults to “maybe I misunderstood” like he is used to not trusting his own recollection of details.
Ep 110: Martin protests that he put back a stack of files that he’d knocked over, and Basira points out that he put them away out of order. It might’ve been on purpose at this point but… he also seemed genuinely anxious about having made a mistake, a classic sort of careless ADHD mistake.
And of course his desire to touch all the dangerous things in Gertrude’s storage unit in 113. Jon resorts to telling him to put his hands in his pockets!
Maybe I relate to him for other reasons and I’m projecting my own ADHD. What do you think?
🗣️
oh god no martin definitely has adhd . as a thing with adhd it's like almost certain in my mind that this man has adhd . - deceit

Thinking about Tim Stoker.
The first time I listened, I hated Tim by season 2. I didn't like how he treated Martin or Jon and was upset he didn't seem to change after Martin chewed him out for his hypocrisy.
The second time, knowing about that and with lots of love spoon-fed to me by the fandom, I tried to hear him with new ears. He became my favorite character and I thought he was entirely in the right.
I do not remember having much opinion of him at all the third time I listened. Too focused on other characters.
Now, on my fourth listen, I think my true opinion has finally finished boiling. Tim IS my favorite s1 character. He was in the right for the first bit of s2, but he ended up kind of a jerk—a victum to his own nihilism.
The thing is, Jon was RIGHT. Someone was trying to hurt him (a lot of things, actually), someone in the institute did kill Gertrude, and he was being betrayed. He was desperately trying to protect everyone and just figure out what was going on.
When the truth of all that came to light, though, Tim remained angry at him. “I don't forgive you” has always irked me just a little, because what did Jon do that needed forgiveness? Tim is 100% justified but Jon is also in the right. Hurray morally grey characters :D

you guys get it
the fact that martin blackwood haters exist is so confusing to me like he's a bitch who moans and complains but also sets fire to things for fun and successfully manipulates avatars and gets jealous about the avatar of death waking up his boyfriend up from a coma and is both jon's staunchest defender and not afraid to call out jon's bullshit
#NO BC ABSOLUTELY#op tags thank u for putting my rotted tmas5jmartbrain into words#they're actually wonderful. i appreciate martin so much for balancing him out and helping keep jon in check#cuz of course he's not JUST the archivist hes still jon too#tma#i love martin and i love jon and i love jon and martin#idk how to say anything you havent already said but yea. totally. he calls jon out and jon listens bc he knows he needs to#martin's just doing his best to understand his very problematic partner#theyre such sweethearts AUGH#also he doesnt complain any more than tim or melanie or jon did#martin as a character is so interesting to me#jons inconsistent morality frustrated me too like he def has a ton to handle#(constant feed of pain and terror directly into his noggin etc etc)#but that doesnt mean he cant still try and stick to a moral code right#being the archivist you should still do the right thing and martin knows this#i think this is one of the themes that was explored most beautifully in magnus: what do you do when there are no right answers?#tma.txt

The Furrcinating Adventures of Champion, the Archives Cat | The Magnus Archives Fanfiction | Ch 1/?
Based on @ultramarinaa’s Cat!Martin AU
CONTENT WARNINGS: None
DISCLAIMER: As per usual, this is an unedited first draft that I haven’t proofread. Forgive any typos and roughness around the edges – I tend not to go back over fanfics, as they’re just a bit of fun writing for me. (I am a full-time professional writer, and if I start telling myself I need to edit and proofread my fanfics, it’ll cease being fun for me.)
This is chapter one of…I don’t know. I may continue if enough people are enjoying it. Next Chapter →
──── •✧• ────
Oh God, Martin thought to himself as fur began to emerge from under his skin, covering newly reshaped limbs and hiding sharp claws from sight, Jon’s going to be so mad at me!
Oh no, Martin panicked as blunt teeth gave way to pointed canines, this is so unprofessional of me!
Only then did Martin allow the terrible question to enter his mind – what was he becoming?
He should have known better than to pick up an unfamiliar book lying around in the archives of the Magnus Institute, the academic home of research into the paranormal and esoteric. At the very least, if he was going to pick it up, he should have done so only to tidy it away. Why he had felt compelled to open the tome and sneak a peek inside, he couldn’t say.
As the world around him lurched into a new angle, Martin could only think about the presentation his boss had delivered a few weeks prior.
Obviously, you shouldn’t be dealing directly with any artefacts of note, Jon had said dryly, tapping the large screen behind him that showed countless examples of seemingly mundane objects. We have a department for that for a reason. However, it’s not unusual for one or two to slip through the cracks; particularly books, given the extensive nature of our library. If you should check out a book as part of your research and you see the name ‘Leitner’ involved in any capacity, do not read the book. Put it down immediately. Martin, that goes double for you – if you even think the word ‘Leitner’ near a book, I want you to turn around immediately and walk back to your desk – do you understand?
Had he seen the name ‘Leitner’ in this book? There had been a torn bookplate in the front, and maybe the remaining letters had been ‘ner’...
Did it matter? He was paying for his stupidity now, Martin thought. All fur and claws and fangs, and oh, what hideous monster would emerge from what had once been Martin Blackwood?
Martin lay down, his fluffy belly flat against the floor, and pushed his newly shaped paws over his eyes. Oh, it didn’t bear thinking about! Jon would burst in at any moment, see some horrible creature, not realise it was Martin, and—
“Martin?”
As if on cue, the door to the shared office of the archival assistants opened, and in walked Jonathan Sims. “Martin, have you taken your lunch break? Tim and Sasha have already gone, and Elias has been getting very prickly about me making sure you all…oh. Martin?”
Martin had scampered under the table in hope of avoiding his boss’ gaze. Treated now to a blurry view of the man’s green socks and scuffed brogues, he watched as Jon entered the office. “Oh. Good. He’s gone already,” Jon said to himself with the air of a job well done. He turned to leave, and Martin had almost let out a sigh of relief when the man’s feet stopped.
No, no! Martin thought, Go! You can’t see me like this! I bet I’m the ugliest monster, all fangs and talons and hair all over the place!
A scarred hand appeared in Martin’s imperfect vision, scooping up the fallen book that was to blame for Martin’s plight. A new fear sprang up in Martin’s mind then – what if Jon read the book too?
He had to do it. He had to save him! Even if it meant Jon would see Martin’s disgusting new form, he had to keep Jon safe!
He lunged with a power that Martin hadn’t ever known before. A screeching roar – or a miaow, really – pierced the air, and Martin all but bodyslammed Jon’s hands, knocking the book firmly from his grip. It span across the room and slid under the bookshelf out of sight.
Now he’d done it. Now Jon would see Martin in all his revolting glory – witness what that awful Leitner book had turned him into. If he didn’t recognise Martin, as surely he wouldn’t, he’d no doubt call security, and then what would happen? Would Martin be taken down? Locked away in the tunnels for examination and research? Worse, what if Jon did recognise him? He’d know that Martin had messed up in a spectacular fashion, and he’d be so disappointed in him. Would he be the one to tell Martin nothing could be done, that the effects of a Leitner were irreversible and that they’d have to–
“Good Lord! Oh…oh, now, where did you come from, little one?”
Jon’s voice took on a bizarrely soft tone that Martin had never heard before. He couldn’t respond, however, as thin hands had latched gently around his torso and lifted him from the ground, a startled purr rumbling from Martin’s chest.
All of a sudden, Jon’s face filled Martin’s entire view. And for once, no scowl darkened his features. In fact, Jon almost looked…delighted?
Martin blinked.
“Mrrow?”
Not once in over a year of working for Jonathan Sims had Martin managed to coax a smile from the other man. All his best attempts, his best teas, his ridiculous amount of overtime to finish his reports to a standard Jon would accept, all his own smiles and attempts to cheer the man up, not one of these gargantuan efforts had been rewarded with a smile.
And now, with one confused miaow, Martin had unlocked a smile from Jon.
“How did you get in here? Did you get lost? Did Martin leave the door open again? Oh, I bet he did. I bet he did!” Jon repeated, descending into a cooing baby voice that would have had Martin howling with laughter if he could still laugh. Jon shifted the perplexed Martin to sit over his shoulder more comfortably, the book all but forgotten. “But you’re such a handsome boy! And no collar? Poor little man, have you been wandering around looking for some food and shelter? We’ll get you sorted, don’t you worry, little champion.”
What…the hell…is happening? Martin wondered, even as a big, goofy smile curled his lips.
Jon was carrying him. Out of the office. Stroking his back. Calling him a little champion and handsome.
“How about a saucer of warm milk, hmm? Does that sound good? Would that set you right, hmm?”
It was only then that Martin’s mind dragged itself out of the dazed, happy fog to piece together what Jon was saying. Why he was saying it.
Martin had not been transformed into some vicious beast from the eldritch corners of reality.
As they passed by Jon’s office, Martin caught a glimpse of his reflection in the glass pane of the door.
A large cat with white and orange fur blinked back at him from over Jon’s shoulder.
──── •✧• ────
Martin was, of course, the talk of the town after everyone returned from their lunch break. Funny, then, that not one person actually mentioned Martin.
“So you’re gonna take him to the vets, right, boss?” Tim asked, rolling another roll of Sellotape towards Martin, apparently expecting him to play with it. Martin, on principle, refused, turning his nose up and huffing.
Tim, come on! You’re back, Sasha’s back, who isn’t back yet? Ask where Martin is! he thought.
“He seems healthy enough to me,” Jon replied, not looking up from the paperwork he was pouring over. “Why?”
“To get his microchip checked? Get him back to his owners?”
That made Jon look up, a flash of shock and upset clear in his widened eyes and slightly parted lips. “His ow— No, no, he hasn’t even got a collar on. No owners.”
“Right, but by law, cats have to be microchipped. Maybe his collar fell off or something?” A hint of amusement danced in Tim’s questions; Martin could tell that Tim was toying with Jon. Jon, however, hadn’t picked up on that.
“M-maybe,” he replied stiffly. “Right, yes, fine. Vets after work. But he can stay here for now. Till the end of the shift.”
Martin wandered over to Jon, sitting himself down by the leg of his chair and craning his neck up, tail swishing behind him.
Right, now that’s sorted, onto the next obvious issue in the office, Jon, he thought. Which is…the obvious and mysterious disappearance of—
“Martin’s late back off his lunch,” Jon noted, checking the office clock with a critical glance. “Could you check the archival assistants’ office please, Tim? Maybe drop him a text. Probably got himself distracted by some…particularly interesting bollards or something…”
Sure, there’d been an insult mixed in there, but Jon had noticed! He’d noticed Martin’s disappearance, and that meant Martin had to repay his kindness!
Fuelled with delight, the cat sprang up onto Jon’s lap, earning him a surprised chuckle. “Ah! Well, hello! Y-yes, you can sit there while I work, Champion. That’s fine.”
Tim snorted as he headed out of Jon’s office, arching an eyebrow at the pair of them. “Champion? Are you kidding me? He’s a classic Fluffy or Ginger or Marshmallow or something.”
“Nonsense. He’s brimming with regal strength. A Champion if I ever saw one,” Jon retorted with a sniff, deeming the argument not worth his attention beyond that and turning back to his work. “Let me know if Martin gets back to you. And if he shows up, send him in here.”
The newly named Champion stretched out lazily on Jon’s lap, settling down for a cheeky nap on company time.
Already here, Jon.

Jon's past comes back to haunt him when the Spotify wrapped comes out:
Tim: Right then gang! Who was everyone's top artist on their Spotify wrapped?
Jon: Tim, I don't think this is of any importance
Tim: Sure it is, boss! I for example had Chappell Roan as my number 1, I was even in the top 0.05% of listeners!
Sasha: Yea, that isn't surprising, you played hot to go on repeat whenever there was a statement about fire
Tim: What can I say, it's a banger!
Tim: Anyway, what about you Sasha?
Sasha: you are talking to one of the top 0.1% of listeners for The Cardigans
Martin: Ooh I love them! I got The Crane Wives, their songs are just so calming and relaxing
Tim: Oh yea, I've seen a few cool animations to their songs! That definitely aren't from a Minecraft series or anything
Sasha: Don't lie Tim, I know you cry every time you see a cactus
Tim: WE ARE GETTING OFF TRACK!
Tim: Who did you get Jon?
Jon: I don't really listen to music, too distracting
Tim: Oh rubbish. Cmon, lets see!
*he goes to grab Jon's phone*
Jon: No Tim, don't-
*Sasha grabs it when he's distracted*
Sasha: Got it!
Tim: Oooh, lemme see, lemme see!
Sasha: It's some band called "The Mechanisms"?
Jon: Oh no, this can't be happening
Martin: *googles them*
*see's Jon in full the full Jonny D'ville getup*
Martin: Oh
Sahsa: My
Tim: God
Sasha: YOU WERE IN A BAND!?!?
Tim: A STEAMPUNK SCI-FI PIRATE BAND?!?
Jon:
Jon: Right, I'm going to light the archives on fire

The thing about s5 of tma is that there are many, many points where Jon and Martin are having two completely different conversations and viewing the same situation in completely different ways. They are similar but have opposite world views and I feel like most arguments about them come from the fact they are just straight up not talking about/viewing the same thing. Martin views Jon as a stepping stone Elias used, Jon views it as a choice he made. Martin views smiting as fighting back against things trying to kill them, Jon views it as abusing powers he got from causing the end of the world. They are not viewing the same situation! To Martin, Jon is a victim threatening to follow in his manipulators footsteps. To Jon, he either can throw more people in his situation, or take the burden of his choice.
A lot of this can be brought back to how they grew up and how it affected how they view any conflict. Martin didn't have any agency growing up, couldn't do anything to fix these overwhelming problems and this has only increased with the added supernatural aspects. So when he sees they have a way to fight back against the literal end of the world, he leaps at it. They can actually save people, he thinks. They can actually make a difference. Even if they can't help anyone, they can at least get rid of the people causing it. There's no solution for the major problem, but they can at least do Something.
Jon felt like he narrowly avoided what was Supposed to happen. He cheated death, and someone else died for it. He dodged it instead of fixing the problem. As far as he's concerned, this has happened over and over. He was supposed to stop the Unknowing, but he didn't and Tim died instead. He was supposed to save Daisy, but he survived and she succame. As far as he's concerned, he is "dodging responsibility" by not being able to solve these huge overarching problems. So when he sees the opportunity to take out the problem at its source, as far as he's concerned it's the only right option.
Jon views it as taking responsibility for what he did for once in his life. Martin views it as another person disregarding everyone's wants and views, this time with the worst consequences possible.
#tma spoilers#the magnus archives#jonmartin#jmart#candy meta#this may be slightly ooc. or a lot. sorry. finished tma not too long ago.#if jon doesnt sacrifice himself he'll start chewing off his own limbs

Got a reblog on this and remembered this post so let me elaborate
Let me preface this by stating I love Jonmartin like seriously insanely so this is coming from a writing sort of standpoint after having thought about what would happen if event A didn't happen and so on. Spoilers ahead of course.
My theory is simple. I tried explaining in long terms but really it's simple. Jon and Martin are all that's left of the OG team from season one before everything went to shit. They cling to each other for not just a sense of normalcy but also because they know that the only person who could understand everything that had happened is each other. From the first attack with Jane Perenthesis (hope I didn't spell that wrong) to the eyepocalypse to losing all the people they loved. Essentially, Trauma Bonding (TM). They cling to each other like life rafts, knowing the waves around them may crush them at any minute but at least they have each other. If they hadn't lost the people around them, they never would've ended up together... as easily anyway. Not saying they aren't in love at all but at the same time you have to think that most of that might be attributed to the trauma they collectively share.
It's obviously been a while since I posted the og post. I do believe they could've gotten together potentially under different circumstances without the whole trauma stuff but that would be THE slowest burn you have ever seen and do not tell me otherwise. Like if TMA really was a comedy workplace, they would take months if not years to even start opening up to each other let alone confessing. Plus ngl I do understand the TimJon stuff and dude... they had a chance if Tim ever forgave Jon because they were much closer than Martin was with Jon.
I am convinced that Jon and Martin would've never ended up together if all of their friends didn't die.
#I hope I was able to articulate this well because it's been months since I actually thought about this#I hope it came across okay but yea trauma does that a lot#this post was originally inspired after i read a post about “what if this is the only lifetime we meet in” and it shattered me#and it made me think of jon and martin#what if they had never met the way that they did would jon had ever let his walls down#would martin had even been able to properly start standing up for himself?#we know ofc that martin is literally the most badass mf but he was pretty shy in the first season and scared shitless by jon#because of the events he stopped pretending to be some naive mf and proved his worth and ability to control a situation time and time again#he was literally out for blood in season 5#anyway yea hope you guys understand again i love jonmartin#i don't expect this to be a popular post but i did want to talk about it lol#i've read and written fics for them#i adore these idiots#tma#jonmartin#jonathan sims#martin blackwood#tim stoker#sasha james#the magnus archives

Hi it's me again. TMA/POKÉMON AU??? YES HELLO PARDON ME I NEED TO THROW MYSELF AT THIS OCCULUS AU YOU'VE GOT GOING ON IF YOU DONT MIND
*BUSTS DOWN THE DOOR* I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED
I’ve had this AU simmering away for a while and but haven’t posted that much about it, so thank you for the excuse to scream about my extremely self indulgent Pokémon x The Magnus Archives AU
*ahem*
Introducing:
POKÉMON OCULUS
(Here’s an illustration I did after getting your ask - Champion Jonathan and his ace Pokémon, Vigitera!)
This AU is set in the Ervenis Region, a relatively small island region off the coast of Galar. It closed its borders two years prior to the main storyline, shortly after its Champion went missing during a series of attacks in its major cities and his predecessor was found murdered. Since then, an acting Champion has been instated and the borders have been reopened, but the Champion still has not been found. Most Ervenisans believe he is dead.
However, the Ervenis Champion isn’t as dead as everyone thinks, and his disappearance is only the first in long chain of events that will shake Ervenis to its very core, orchestrated by a man who aims to rule over a ruined world governed by nothing but his own will and the fear of people and Pokémon alike, and who will stop at nothing to bring that goal into reality.
More lore under the cut!
(Some of the AU-specific names and terms might be placeholders in that I haven’t been able to come up with anything better lmao)
(Also some of the art might be a bit old)
General Lore Stuff
Jon is the Champion who went missing, and Gertrude is his murdered predecessor.
Martin is Ervenis’ Pokémon Professor
Martin being the Professor is literally perfect.
Be. Because.
All of the Pokemon Professors (except for the newest ones) are named after trees.
And Martin’s last name is BLACKWOOD. Which is an ACTUAL TREE.
(My first rough attempt at drawing Jmart in the Pokémon art style)
Also jmart are extremely married
They’re Ervenis’ favorite power couple
(Professor Blackwood for half of the main plot: *sighs.* …I miss my husband. I miss him a lot. I’ll be back.)
Their Pokémon ship name would be Londonfogshipping
Martin has a Galvantula (most likely a regional form), a Sinistea, a Frosslass, and a Togekiss
Jon, in addition to AU-specific Fakemon, has a Gardevoir and a Luxray
Jon also has a shiny Appletun on his team and Martin has a Flapple. Make of that what you will :D
Also yes there are Fakemon in this thing
I have never designed any Fakemon before except for one thirty-minute period of time from when I was ten but I’m not going to let that stop me
(Initial Fakemon sketches! Three guesses as to which characters get Sqwyrm and Manickregus and the first two don’t count)
(Also Ervenisan Yamask has another form, which evolves into Ervenisan Cofagrigus which is inspired by the Do Not Open coffin)
(I have a whole list of Fakemon designs I want to make but 90% of them aren’t fleshed out at all)
Tim and Sasha are Professors in their own right, and also Martin’s assistants/fellow researchers
Tim has a Houndoom because I saw another TMA Pokémon AU that gave him one and I really liked the idea, he also has a Ludicolo because I lost a debate with my friend who is also into both TMA and Pokémon
Sasha has a Dartrix and a Meowstic
Most of the Avatars are gym leaders
(Yippee gym leader designs!)
(Not pictured because I ran out of steam before I could draw them: Michael and Helen, who run a double Electric-type gym; Daisy, who runs a Dragon-type gym; Karolina, who runs a Ground-type gym; and Jared, who runs a Normal-type gym)
Elias is the acting Champion in Jon’s absence and the secret leader of Team Chrysalis
The current Elite Four consists of Peter, Simon, Maxwell, and Annabelle
You might have noticed that Jon and the gym leaders are all wearing (mostly) black pendants/brooches
This is part of the Ervenis’ region’s “gimmick:”
Metafestation (which is. Almost definitely a placeholder name)
Skilled trainers can use special items called Metalenses to tap into the psyches of Pokemon and Trainer to manifest the shape of their desires and the power of their emotions in reality.
You basically give the Pokémon a JoJo Stand
Each Metalens must be specially shaped and cut to suit unique trainers and Pokémon, and since using poorly made Metalenses may have disastrous consequences on its users, only a handful of people have the qualifications and legal authorization to do so
(Gerard Keay is one of these people!)
Metalenses are usually worn as pendants or brooches so they’re close to the user’s heart
For the Metafestation power-up to be strongest, the trainer and Pokémon must have a shared goal/desire and a deep bond
(This bond does not have to be a positive one. It just needs to be strong.)
These Metafestations have their own typing system, though no one’s been able to figure out exactly what it is yet.
It’s the Fears. The Fears are the typing system.
Though most users of this system aren’t aware of it, Metafestation comes from achieving a delicate balance of both desire and fear.
When I first came up with this idea, it was JUST Fear, but I felt like that was a bit dark for frickin POKÉMON so I added the desire aspect
After all, what we fear and and what we desire often go hand in hand
You desire safety because you fear its absence, you desire light because you fear the dark, you desire freedom because you fear being confined, etc.
For example, Professor Blackwood desires companionship, and fears being forgotten. Most of the Metafestations he and his Pokémon create are foggy and cold, but in a way soothing at the same time.
Though a small handful of them are spindly and laced with puppet strings and reflect his desire to wield his cunning for good.
(However, he hasn’t been able to properly use his Metalens in years. The first and only time he tried after his husband vanished, it backfired horribly, consuming both him and his Pokémon in a chilling fog and sending them spiraling into unconsciousness. It took weeks for them to recover, and Professor Blackwood bears a physical scar of the incident in the streaks of stark white in his hair.)
Of course, most people don’t have just one desire/fear. The Metalens just channels the strongest ones, and most users don’t achieve more than three separate tertiary types of power-ups.
One of the biggest exceptions is Jon.
He desires many things: Safety, love, knowledge. He also fears many things: Being manipulated and controlled, abandonment, the unknown.
When he was a child, something happened to him that scarred his psyche in such a way that he could channel all of his desires and fears.
It’s what makes him such a potent conduit for the power-up system, and what makes him a prime target for:
Team Chrysalis
Team Chrysalis is a criminal organization/sort of cult disguised as something innocent: The Magnus Institute, the region’s main research institution that Professor Blackwood works at
The AU’s main plot gets kicked off when Professor Blackwood finds evidence that his husband, the missing Champion, is still alive
If this were a real game, the main story on the side of doing the gym challenge would be helping Professor Blackwood look for clues about Jon’s whereabouts and about The Magnus Institute’s hidden goals
Professor Blackwood also figures out that it’s very likely that Elias had a hand in Jon’s disappearance
(Professor Blackwood for the other half of the main plot: *slams down the Do Not Open coffin in front of Elias* It’s a coffin. There’s a name engraved on it. “WHORE!” IT’S EMPTY!! *grabs Elias by the collar* AND YOU’RE GOING IN IT!!!)
The Elite Four are also part of Team Chrysalis and fully on board with its plan
Though Annabelle might have her own machinations going on
Team Chrysalis plans to reshape the world as they see fit by summoning a Legendary Pokémon that’s a warped physical manifestation of the fears and desires of all living creatures, and simultaneously embodies and feeds on those fears and desires
(It’s basically all the Fears mashed into one eldritch monstrosity)
(I’m mildly worried this sounds too similar to some existing legendaries but at the same time I’m just spitballing and having fun here)
To summon this Legendary, they need a lynchpin capable of channeling all of those fears and desires
This lynchpin is Jon because of course it is.
Team Chrysalis’ whole plan actually only serves to grant Elias immortality and make him king of a ruined world but shhh none of the team members know that
I have zero idea what the Legendary would look like, I just have the fact I want it to have “Pan” in its name
The climax of the story comes when Team Chrysalis starts their ritual and the end of the world. In order to stop them, their Vessel and the Legendary must be defeated.
You are challenged by The Archivist!
The Really Self Indulgent Part
I started working on this at the same time that my friend was watching through XY for the first time
So at some point when coming up with all of the story stuff my brain went “what if I stuck Ash Ketchum into the story?”
So Ash is there now. For some reason lol
He’s 19 now and is just doing his thing and traveling the world
As usual, he takes on the player’s role, challenging gyms and helping Professor Blackwood in his investigation and eventually helping him take on Team Chrysalis
(I made this shitpost in like. Less than an hour lmao)

This question may have a more obvious answer because I don't remember a lot of TMA.
How did Tim and Danny end up in Jon and Martin's care? What was their adjustment period like?
Furthermore, what was Jon and Martin's adjustment period like after ending up somewhere new? Do either of them have any of powers from their previous life?
Sorry if these are too much. I just really like your AU 😅
it’s not too much at all!! This did turn out super long though so there’re some details I had to skip… oops… but anyway I tried to go in chronological order. I hope this answers your questions tl;dr at the end :3
Okok so after MAG 200 Jon and Martin arrive somewhere else along with the fears. Their bodies come with them, so still have all their scars and marks (and also Jon is bleeding out lol). The somewhere else they end up in is similar to their original universe in some ways but also very different in others, for instance the Magnus Institute doesn’t exist. Because of the differences the fears also manifest differently than they used to, almost exclusively as (mostly) physical monsters rather than the more insidious metaphysical presence that they have in the podcast. Also no Leitners but I think that’s more because the fears only just arrived so they haven’t had time to appear yet (hint hint).
Jmart still have their connections to their entities as well as their abilities but those are also different, they focus more on the physical aspects of the entities as well. Jon isn’t omniscient anymore, he still Knows things occasionally but in general his abilities are a little more related to watching than archiving (the reason for that is an explanation all on its own so I’ll skip it for now in the interest of not making this TOO long). He also heals from being stabbed pretty immediately but I think that’s more of a one time thing than a consistent ability afterwards.
Martin’s abilities are mostly more specifically centred around fog and physical isolation than emotional distance. They're also a lot weaker than Jon’s (another explanation I’ll save for later lol)
They manage to get themselves together and get jobs and a home etc etc the specifics of all that don't really matter. They meet Tim a few years later while he's being chased by a monster (I think it's probably a Dark monster). They save him (Jon melts it or something).
Through talking to Tim they learn a few things 1) he’s definitely the somewhere else version of their Tim Stoker 2) he’s in foster care with his brother 3) he encountered the monster after sneaking out. After learning these things Jmart naturally do the responsible adult thing and help him sneak back into the house after making him promise not to sneak out again.
Obviously Tim wants to know more about the monster that tried to eat him so after some convincing they tell him he can visit them at the library Martin works at.
Tim starts visiting them semi-regularly, sometimes Danny comes along. Jmart tell him a little about the fears but not about their past at first. Eventually they learn from Tim that the foster home isn't great. It’s not outright abusive but the couple is very conservative christian and it’s just not a good fit. Tim doesn’t want to move, though, because he’s worried he and Danny will be separated.
They don't actually adopt Tim and Danny until after they’ve already gotten to know them fairly well, and they start with fostering them. So the adjustment period is a little more natural. I will say they definitely get to know and bond with Tim a lot faster than Danny. Danny definitely follows Tim’s lead though so he’s more inclined to trust them when he sees that his big brother likes them.
There’s a bunch more I could say about the specifics of the fear mechanics in the new world and the details of Tim and Danny’s history but this is already way longer than I planned so I’m gonna cut it here for now :’)
TL;DR: The fears are a little different in the new universe but Jmart do still have their fear abilities, they rescue Tim from a monster and eventually adopt him and Danny from their less than ideal foster home.

there's a lot going on in the mag 58 supplemental, this one little scene does a lot of heavy lifting to set up martin and tim's arcs for the rest of the show, but I want to focus on these lines particularly because of how therapy comes back as a symbol in s4/s5.
broadly, in the context of the meta plot and not the individual statements, seeking therapy in tma is representative of trying to improve oneself and get out of a bad situation. later, when taking melanie to therapy, georgie suggests that jon should get some as well but, when asked, says she wouldn't be willing to escort him like she does with melanie, showing how she does wish the best for jon in theory but doesn't think he actually wants to get better, or at least that she's not sure enough to involve herself with him.
that view of jon doesn't come from nowhere, because here we have an instance of him rejecting that same offer, symbolically rejecting help in favor of digging himself deeper on his own (obligatory disclaimer that irl therapy is a very personal thing and says nothing about one's overall character, this is just an examination of a motif in fiction). the word choice of "he just says no" imo implies that martin has suggested this multiple times and jon keeps giving the same answer, continually reaffirming that he does not want outside assistance to pull him out of this spiral.
the fact that martin's the one advocating to go soft on jon despite repeated refusals for more sympathetic help is interesting to me, because I would guess that this conversation was instigated by jon aggressively confronting martin about trevor herbert two episodes earlier. we know he was stalking all three of his assistants, but that is the biggest and most threatening outburst we get from jon in this period, and in this conversation it is still martin being defensive and apologetic vs tim being frustrated and pissed off.
I've said recently that I'm pretty sure martin believed jon was self harming and/or suicidal at this point, so I can see why he would be particularly willing to give jon slack and try to prevent any big conflicts, but that still contributes to his current narrative role of "guy who is treated the worst but ignores it because he's also the guy who cares the most." in that way, he's a foil for georgie; she cares, sure, but not enough to ignore (perceived) risks. martin pushes for jon to get therapy even as he lashes out and rejects help, and georgie won't involve herself when jon asks if she'd be willing to help him see a therapist.
this motif comes back around for a final complication in s5, when laverne, melanie's therapist, winds up as part of her cult. melanie's effort to get better and get out did have lasting effects, she is separated from the watcher/watched system and is coping a whole lot better than she would have before, but those personal efforts still weren't enough to fully get her out of the whole mess. no amount of individual action could remove her from this structural problem, her therapist helped her a lot but also now thinks she's a prophet.
which also comes back to the above scene. tim and martin both write off elias as useless in this situation, so they start sniping at each other and talking about how to stop jon from doing what he's doing without even really lingering on how the guy who is actually in charge and has power over them all is making it worse by neglecting his managerial duties. I'm sure jon could have done with some therapy at this point, but that would have only dealt with, like, 10% of the archive gang's current problems.

ok so i watched muppets in space recently and got to thinking about a muppets casting of tma and i had some ideas but the important thing is i think it would be really funny if kermit was cast as elias. do i think its the correct cast? no absolutely not but i decided to do a drawing of pre brutal pipe murder cus i think its funny :3
ok so more blabbing about this... au?? ig u culd call it that under the cut :3
ok so firstly i will admit i havnt really got concrete ideas for the main cast yet but i have some ideas! i feel like tim could be gonzo or maybe rizzo?
then sasha im a bit stuck on as there isnt very many like, female presenting muppets overall (there may be more in sesame street but i am not hugely familar with it) but i did vaugely think of kermit due to constantine but i feel maybe that might not be much of a change lmao and miss piggy does not fit (def smthn to do with the slaughter) and janice doesnt either. and i dont want her to be a chicken :(.
martin is also tricky buttt maybe fozzie but i feel maybe he would be a good michael (long set of jumps in my mind) so not 100 percent on that
and i feel jon would be a fairly good token human, but i kinda think elias would be good as that too augh (also no clue for jon honestly :/)
onto side characters i feel like animal could be grifters bone maybe??
i think statler and waldorf would be breekon and hope for like, obvious reasons (small sketch below)
thats p much all i have rn but i WILL add onto it more...
feel free to suggest stuff also id LOVE 2 hear otherpeoples opinions on this!!!

I got inspired to write my own short Champion fanfic, so here you go :) don't mind any typo/spelling/grammar errors, no beta we kayak like Tim
Martin wasn't sure how he ended up here, but he was at Jon's flat. He has been for the last few days, as a matter of fact. Elias had begun to cause a stink about a cat staying in the archives, so Jon simply decided to take Martin–Champion–home.
Not that Martin was complaining. Jon had a nice home, though it seems underprepared for a cat. Jon seemed to be quite the minimalist apart from things he'd like to collect, random little trinkets that took up space on his desk.
Also, not to mention living with his crush that had never dwindled, despite Jon's harshness. Jon treated him like a prince, at least by cat standards, but it's still more attention than he ever gets. He curls up on Jon's lap, on blankets, and Jon's bed had also become his. It was pure bliss (also, Jon's bed head was adorable).
It was also because of this that he'd get quite sad when Jon left for work. He'd meow, rub on his leg, sit in front of the door, but to no avail Jon would leave with a regretful look on his face. This wasn't the biggest of his problems, though.
Alone and nothing to do, Martin decides to take nap on top of the couch. He stretches, extending his claws as he does, and curls up. He dozes off into sleep, but when he opened his eyes, he noticed something was off.
He blinks as his vision clears, and realizes he is laying on the main part of the couch. He shifts, only to look down to see that he is human again–which would be fantastic if Jon wasn't going to be home at any moment. Martin had been missing, though nobody really tried to find him, and he was sure it would be a shock to find someone suddenly in your flat.
Martin gathers himself before sitting up, promptly adjusting to being back in his old and human body. How was he going to explain this? 'Yes, Jon, I was a cat and definitely didn't break into your house'?
Before he had too much time to think he heared a click and then the door knob begin to turn. Ready or not, he thought, and listened to door break as it opened to show Jonathan Sims.
Jon lookes baffled to put it lightly. He stood there, unmoving and unchanging, making long eye contact with Martin. He can feel his face get red as it makes him nervous, and he thinks this is the last thing that should be happening. "Uhm, hi. Jon, I'm so sorry–"
"How did you get here? I–" Jon tosses his bag to the side as he makes his way over to Martin, his voice sharp. Not angry though, which surprises Martin. He sees worry in Jon's eyes as he talks. "Where on earth have you been?"
Martin has to process what is happening, giving a small nod before he starts talking. "Right, I...might have been stuck as a cat?"
"You were Champion?" The tone initally came off as surprised to Martin, but he can see Jon frown slightly. "That's...I'm glad you're okay."
"I touched a Leitner, it was my own fault," Martin says simply. He feels guilty about the situation, but he can't help feeling a sting of hurt knowing nobody actively looked for him.
"If I would have known...I'm sorry." Jon rests his hand on Martin's shoulder, though he has to look up at him. "Elias told us you were taking some sort of break from work. Should have never trusted his word."
"He told you I was taking a break?" He didn't know what else to do other than gesture his hands to emphasize his point. "That bastard knew what happened!"
"Let's give him a taste of his own medicine," Jon said, having a beautiful determined look his his eyes. "Wouldn't hurt to have another cat around the archives."
Martin was certain he was in love with this man.
I fully believe John just wants to have a cat and getting one but also getting rid of Elias at the same time… is a wonderful deal
Also hehehehehee happy ending for cat!Martin, no angst just sillies
Just what I needed, thank you so much!! 💞💞💞💞

The Magnus Archives, Episode 1 - The Anglerfish.
Statement Begins,
First listen to this podcast, that pops up in my feed on youtube a lot, and tumblr, and gotta say...
Love it. Especially the first episode.
Anyway, I have so many thoughts and opinions, and I need to scream into the void.
1. Jonathan Sims is also spelt Johnathan Sims? I'm using the fucking... uh... script thing while listening and I've noticed the difference in spelling??? I did see some posts (all were ship stuff, something about a Tim and Jon?) And I'm so confused on why everyone uses Jon while the script has Johnathan. Wild.
2. Why does Jon/John(???) feel Albino to me?? Like, I'm pretty sure this guy has no description, he is a voice. So Albino??? Huh. Like, immediate thought while listening to him yap was 'this bitch is albino.' He also gives stoner vibes. I can't explain it, but I know I am right.
3. Love how he is skeptical, it's great. Tbh, the first episode statment guy sounds like the he was tripping. I'd also think the statement was fake if I was him.
4. John/Jon (I need to pick a spelling.) Sounds, specifically, British in a 'born and raised in cardiff' type. Do you understand??? Do I make sense??? He's the bitch who went to a posh private school and you just knew it. He also stands weirdly I bet.
4.5. Also, Jon/John has assistants, which seems like a Head Archivist needs. Tim, Sasha and Martin. Bet one of em is like, an alien. (It's Tim. Who the fuck names their kid TIM???)
5. The Anglerfish story. Again. Sounds very much like a bad trip, or like, a hallucination. The missing people thing though makes it less. Not fake. But it could be, like, those stories that pop up when people go missing. My primary school used to make rumours of aliens and shit when some kinds went missing.
5.5. Like, the rumours and horror stories that would pop up is wild. Jon/John is me and I am him. We are the same.
5.6. Oh my god what if its aliens. That'd be funny as shit.
6. John/Jon is such a hater. I love him. He definitely gets no bitches and I can fucking tell (we are the same)
7. Bet aliens happen here, I can't stop thinking about it. I couldn't stop with how the guy described the Anglerfish thing. Definitely alien behaviour. There's no like, supernatural shit as in vampires, but its aliens. I think it'd be fucking funny. (I just know even from the singular mention Tim is an alien.)
8. Already, I love the format and setting. An archive??? In London? I can see it. London is too fucking posh and far, but you could tell me this place existed and I'd be like 'yeah that tracks'.
That's my thoughts for now, and yes, I was really hung up on aliens. Because I feel like it's aliens. Also, why is the podcast genre tradegy and horror? Horror is a given, but why tradgey?
Oh my god they all die. Like, from aliens. Funfact, I don't really believe in aliens, but I do love alien based fiction, I.e Xenomorphs and shit. I know my shit.
I'll probably encase multiple episodes into a post since I just realised there's 200 episodes. Like damn???
Statement ends.
