I'm so, so glad this song found a home on IICHLIWP. It was my little orphan song for so long. That being said - hearing it come on immediately after Ya'aburnee is hilarious, and such an abrupt shift in tone, lmfao. Anyway!

God I fucking love this song. If I remember correctly, the video and song came out at the same time, or very close to it. When the video came out, I changed the speed to 25% and studied every. single. frame. I was absolutely obsessed. Still am.

I also will always respect what they did for their performances of this song during the Love & Power tour. During the bridge, instead of singing, Halsey just drops to the ground. On the screen behind her, statistics about abortion and safe access and how significant it is appear in red. She gets back up on "so save me your prayers."

A few people walked out of my show after she did this. Even though she said that she wouldn't be on that stage without her abortion. Wouldn't have their son, who they treasure so much. Fuck those people.

It was incredibly powerful overall. Afterwards, they led the crowd in a "my body, my choice" chant.

Halsey has always stood up for what she believes in. I've seen them do it time and time again.

(Side note - I like the production on the original, but I've replaced it completely with the Trent Reznor version. It's superior in every way.)

That Challengers sauna scene.... Art having to confront the man who he grew up comparing himself to, for once in his life having the legs to stand up against him (professional success, being with Tashi), and yet feeling unsteady because he knows its all a house of cards. That deep down he still thinks he couldn't take him in a head to head fight, in tennis or love. Art faking his bluster and bravado, but still saying the poisonous things with conviction.

Patrick having to look at his childhood friend who managed to have the kind of future he imagined for himself through grit and determination and focus, that he never really had. Hoping he can get some sort of rise out of Art, hoping either he gets in his head, or Art takes him back and they can be friends and equals again.

Tashi present like a ghost in that room. The specter of sporting excellence haunting them, a burden for Art, an elusive dream for Patrick. Their exchange itself like tennis, every statement uttered with force. If they’re doing a US tour they’re gonna wanna hit the WHOLE country and like obviously they can’t hit every state immediately but places with decent music scenes like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, I can’t remember the one Pennsylvanian city that a bunch of similar bands played in but there is one 😂 they’re deadass hitting NY and probably more than once, Joel would have a shit fit if they don’t lmao. Nine Inch Nails also got their start in the local Cleveland music scene in the ‘90’s. Joel stans Trent Reznor hard af, so he probably knows this. I can imagine him having vague romanticized feelings about my city because of that lol.
