I will never get over Nine Inch Nails being. Literally In Twin Peaks. Like. You have this tiny, tiny podunk town, and this one bar that happens to get performances fairly regularly by some incredible if mostly obscure artists. Then you are blasted, early-mid episode of part eight of Twin Peaks, the Return, by this old man with a PINE CONE on his microphone telling announcing "Ladies and Gentlemen, the roadhouse proudly welcomes... THE NINE INCH NAILS." And then they are fucking THERE. Like. I can recognize Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Mariqueen Maandig by sight, and that is THEM, they are in Twin Peaks putting on SUCH A GOOD SHOW. And with a song that may as well be about Laura fucking Palmer. Trent is putting his entire Rezussy into it, he's on his knees, he is moving and SCREAMING those vocals. How do you think they coordinated that. Do you think this alternate reality version of Trent knew the history of the town and decided 'yeah this would fuck severely.' Did they contact NIN somehow? Did the Forces teleport them not this universe for the sole purpose of an insanely badass leadup to resurrecting BOB. David Lynch will never explain, because he is not an explainer, so I'm going to make up an incredibly unhinged explanation myself for fun. Also the performance lights were perfectly suitable to my photosensitivity, which I love them for! The rest of the episode gave me a seizure though lmfao

I'm so, so glad this song found a home on IICHLIWP. It was my little orphan song for so long. That being said - hearing it come on immediately after Ya'aburnee is hilarious, and such an abrupt shift in tone, lmfao. Anyway!

God I fucking love this song. If I remember correctly, the video and song came out at the same time, or very close to it. When the video came out, I changed the speed to 25% and studied every. single. frame. I was absolutely obsessed. Still am.

I also will always respect what they did for their performances of this song during the Love & Power tour. During the bridge, instead of singing, Halsey just drops to the ground. On the screen behind her, statistics about abortion and safe access and how significant it is appear in red. She gets back up on "so save me your prayers."

A few people walked out of my show after she did this. Even though she said that she wouldn't be on that stage without her abortion. Wouldn't have their son, who they treasure so much. Fuck those people.

It was incredibly powerful overall. Afterwards, they led the crowd in a "my body, my choice" chant.

Halsey has always stood up for what she believes in. I've seen them do it time and time again.

(Side note - I like the production on the original, but I've replaced it completely with the Trent Reznor version. It's superior in every way.)
