Virgil Manor sits on the edge of town square, festering in a dark pocket of superstition and paranoia. A pile of chipped bricks, wood and plaster all glued together to form an irregular, slanted rectangle that looms over Blue Haven. The white paint has faded, turned a murky grey, and shutters have almost rotted from a bright pink to a mouldy green. The rusted metal bars, bolted over the windows, do not make the sight any more appealing.
In 1910, Blue Haven was a trading port, and the mayor insisted on living in a house that was grand enough to look over at the sea. It took three years to build the manor, production briefly interrupted by a wave of civil unrest. Taxes were a pain back then too, the cost of living too expensive, and hunger plagued the little town. Civilians rallied and burned the homes of  the less guarded, easily accessible aristocrats.
Starved and furious, scorned from the fire, a member of the aristocratic Kim family (his name scribbled out of every history book) stormed the Virgil Manor. He’d just heard his little brother’s cries, his mother wailing, pleading for help. He witnessed his father hurry back into the flaming house and the structure explode from the pressure. Motionless, he stood in the woods as the mob moved to the next house. They say the smoke burned his eyes black, poisoned him with a wrath worthy of destroying worlds.

take a minute girl, come sit down and tell us what's been happening || BRORGAN
tagging: Morgan Weston & Bree Brown
date & time: August 26, 2024 around dinner time
location: Some fancy steakhouse probably
warnings: none, just two besties being homies
summary: Both Bree and Morgan are dealing with a lot and it turns out a friendship date was all the two needed to work through some complicated feelings. Plus Bree got to have chocolate mouse for the first time and shit was wholesome!
word count: 7,115
MORGAN could feel that Bree wasn't doing terribly well. It was something in the way she spoke about herself, the situations she ended up in, and the way she hadn't carried herself, the way she had, when the cowboy had first met and spoken to her. And as her friend, he wanted to do everything he could, to get that back, and make her feel better. She'd beat him to it and had requested to go riding - not the way Eva had! But horseback riding. He'd saddled up Eytelia for Bree and Tulip for himself, and off they'd gone. Morgan had shown her around his property, taking her around the lake, up the hill, behind the huge rock and back to the house, where he'd treated her to a popsicle. After having taken care of the horses, Morgan drove Bree and him to a nice restaurant. He figured it'd only be good for her to see how a gentleman was supposed to treat a lady. "We're doin' two steaks with everything, please," Morgan said and handed the menu back to the waiter, not really having looked at it. He'd slipped a $20 note in, making sure that the waiter knew they'd gotten it. "And can we get your best bottle of red wine? Oh! And before you leave, we're doin' two chocolate mousses for dessert. One with a candle in it, for the birthday girl here," Morgan grinned and pointed at Bree cheekily, knowing damn well it wasn't her birthday. "Thanks, pal!" Morgan watched as the man walked back to the kitchen with the big order, before leaning forward and turning his attention to Bree. "When is your actual birthday?"
BREE hadn't had such a stress free day in a while. Possibly not since she was in high school, it made her considering country living. A little farm, with a couple horses, some cows, little goats, maybe even a garden. It soundeed quiet and peaceful and it would be a nice change from the life of loud and stressful she had been living in since she was born. But she'd miss the convivences of the city and she wasn't one to get her hands dirty. She preferred classrooms with juicy expo markers and big ass whiteboards. Even with the chill vibes that often came with simply being around Morgan, she was still finding it hard to just relax and enjoy herself. Although, she won't lie the popsicle helped. Sugar does wonders for one's mood. Because she never went anywhere without heels and a dress and an emergancy makeup kit, she was able to freshen up after the horses and get dressed for dinner and feel photo ready. Okay, so she only took one photo of her and Morgan to commemorate the day, but she'd only post it on her private Instagram with her closest friends and family, because this wasn't a PR stunt this was real and therefore precious to her. As Morgan ordered their meal and drinks, she smiled. Call her old fashioned, but she loved when someone took charge so she didn't have to think. Truly just show up and look hot, that's all she wanted to do. Of course, Morgan had something up his sleeve, and Bree was more than happy to play along. So, she acted a little embarrassed but excited at the mention of her 'birthday'. "February 16th." She answered. "I've also never had chocolate mousse before. Is it like zero sugar chocolate pudding, but with sugar?" She asked and somehow knew she was wrong, but surly she was close. "Now who are you dating that's got you out here unsure if you're single or not?" She jumped right in.
MORGAN was about to show Bree how a real gentleman spoiled a girl, and made her feel wanted. Not that anything was gonna come of it, obviously - the two were friends, and from what Morgan could understand, she was going through a lot. Besides, he was plenty busy with what he had going on anyway. As much as he found Bree attractive, he also just didn't feel that way about her. They'd set their platonic friends status pretty firmly. But that didn't mean that Morgan still couldn't show her, how she deserved to be treated; and this was, after all, the bare minimum, in his eyes. "I'll remember that," Morgan said, and made a mental note to write February 16th into his calendar as Bree's birthday; again, she deserved that. "Wait, you've never-" he stopped, completely shocked, not knowing what words to use. "It's so much better than that! It's light and fluffy, and if done properly, rich but not so rich that you only take one bite and you're done- no, you wanna keep eating it. Just wait and see, I promise you'll love it," he guaranteed, and watched as the waiter came around with the bottle of wine to pour. He leaned back in his seat and listened to Bree's next question, watching the red alcohol get poured into the glasses, and thought about it for a second. "Umm..." The waiter stopped pouring, set the bottle down and Morgan thanked him before he walked away. "It's more like, a situation, y'know? Like, I ain't met their parents, but I'm also not seeing anyone else outside of 'em. But I don't know if they're doin' the same." Morgan confessed, not exactly wanting to name names, if they weren't at that stage. "What 'bout you? What's happenin' there?" Morgan asked and reached for his wine glass, and took a sip. This was what friends did, right?
BREE couldn't believe that men like Morgan actually existed outside of romantic comedies and FreeForm shows. The man had all that country charm, a true gentleman, protective, generous, tall and handsome. Truly the whole package and Bree had been genuinely surprised that once they started talking she didn't want to climb him like a tree. Instead the vibe was comfortable and wholesome. Morgan felt like an older brother, someone she could trust with her secrets. It's probably why now that she feels overwhelmed and overextended she just wanted to ride horses with him. It was calming, he was calming. Smiling as he described chocolate mousse, Bree actually thought that sounded really good and definitely nothing like zero sugar chocolate pudding. "If you say it's good then I believe it." She might have to put in a little more time with her training but it was worth it to treat herself every once in a while. After the waiter poured their wine, Bree took the glass and let the liquid swirl as Morgan explained what sounded like a situationship and her friend didn't really seem the type, but this was LA. Speaking of, "They, huh, they as in one person or they as in more than one person?" She asked her curiosity very much piqued. "This is LA so it could be either or both." She said finally taking a sip of the wine. Letting the flavors dance in her mouth as she considered his question. Her instinct was to lie or brush it off, btu this was Morgan. "You know Jake Puckerman?" she asked. "He's my ex and things with him are... complicated."
MORGAN had never truly been the type of person who went out randomly and decided to have a fancy dinner or something. He actually rarely wanted to leave the comfort and safety of his home. That was why he wasn't good in big settings, with lots of people, and only really went to them, if he felt it was absolutely necessary. But if there was one thing he'd learnt about LA, then it was that socializing was everything. Once he started horse wrangling, he'd quickly figured out what a 'walk and talk' was, and coffee was a must! It had grown on him a bit, and once he'd actually figured out that there was more to life than just to work, and that he actually missed having friends and people that he could hang out with, in a non-professional sense, it had grown on him even more. And he was grateful that he could do this Bree. He knew they'd done things that were probably leaning more towards his interests than hers, like the horseback riding, but he wasn't about to make the night be about him. He'd even dressed in his finest black dress shirt, a pair of black ironed pants, and his shiniest shoes. He'd really done his best to clean up, while Bree had changed too, because he didn't want her to think that she wasn't worthy of the trying. Hearing her question, Morgan blushed slightly and set his wine glass back down. He couldn't help it, he wasn't used to feeling this way! "They as in more than one person. I don't even know how the hell it happened," Morgan put his hand on his temple, chuckling nervously, as he thought about it. "But it was just sorta natural, we were all attracted to each other, and I guess, seeing each other on the side," It sounded ridiculous, now that he said it out loud, but only because it felt like it was supposed to happen. Humming, Morgan nodded a 'yes' to Bree's question. He was familiar with Jake Puckerman. In ways that was linked to his own situation. "Complicated?" He frowned, furrowing his eyebrows. "He didn't hurt you, did he?"
BREE had to admit she was surprised. Morgan struck her as a one person kind of man, or at least a one person at a time kind of man. The knowledge that he was entertaining two people, which the gender neutral terms being used, or rather the lack of gender specific terms, was duly noted. Maybe this Montana bred stallion was starting to become more of a wild LA mustang. Or however horses worked. Unless, he'd always been polyamorous, but given how he was describing everything she had to assume this was very new to him and he seemed, happy. Maybe slightly confused, but happy none the less. While she thought she'd be jealous of his multiple lovers at home and her zero, she was actually just dying to hear every single detail, like who they are and if they're treating him right, have they been on dates? "How long has it been going on? Have you always been polyamorous, do you even know what that is? Is it just sex?" The questions was out of her mouth with no permission from her brain, but she was dying to know and this was suppose to be a gossip sesh, right? That's what friends do on dinner dates. Well, it's what she does with her lady friends. Taking another sip of her wine, she needed to stall because, she wasn't sure she wanted to share everything, being cheated on was... embarrassing and it was still a sore subject for her. "We both hurt each other." She settled on. "But the hurt he caused is what led to our break up..." Putting her glass down, she sat up a little straighter. "Anyway, we were still messing around, until we had a conversation, which started off good and we both agreed we couldn't be together anytime soon. So I said we had to stop being... physical, with each other, a real break up. Then he tossed me out." She took in a deep breath. "I don't know what I said wrong.."
MORGAN's eyebrows raised at the amount of questions came out in basically no time. He'd never experienced something like this. He was so used to guys who had this whole male bravado thing going on, and would never share intimate details, unless it made them look good. Was this what girls did? They shared details, feelings, asked about the past, the present and the future? It was gonna take some getting used to, that was for damn sure! Hesitating a little bit, Morgan thought about his answers, wanting them to be as concise and straight-to-the-point as he could be, without revealing too much, and being a gentleman about it. "For three weeks, I want to say - just slowly though. We're still learning a lot about each other. I do know what polyamorous is, but I never gave it much thought. In all fairness though," Morgan said, leaning back in, and fiddling with his napkin. "I've been too busy to even pay too much attention to my feelings, until now. And, um..." he scratched his chin, the facial hair rubbing against his fingers, as he thought about a nice way to answer Bree. "In all respect to these...lovers of mine, I'm not gonna answer that last one," because he also truly didn't know. His fingers pushed down the corner of the napkin against the table and he looked up at Bree as she started explaining the situation. He'd become slightly familiar with Jake, but more familiar with his brother, and if that was anything to go by, then Morgan had a theory as to what the problem was. "Is he better at expressing himself physically, than with words?"
BREE watched her friend as he spoke, trying to analyze and read between the lines. Even though the cowboy seemed like the kind of man who said what he meant and meant what he said, when it comes to matters of the heart people, especially men, left a lot unsaid. Unfortunately, she didn't know him quite well enough to read his mind or interpret too much beyond what he said. Anything she thought was a guess and she didn't like relying on a guess. It was the mathematician in her. What she knew was it was a recent thing, made sense and the way he was talking would indicate a more than sexual interest in his 'lovers', as he put it. It was cute, she remembered what it was like to be in the beginning stages of a relationship. It was fun and exciting and if there was just that special something, everything you felt was even more intense. "That's very mindful of you, Mr. Weston, very demure." At this point Tik Tok was a part of her everyday speech and she just had to roll with it. She would circle back around to his, situationship, maybe a couple moreglasses of wine in. Taking another sip of her wine, she mulled over his question. She hadn't really thought about that. "He's horny all the time, if that's what you mean." Something told her it wasn't what he meant but she wasn't sure how else to take it.
MORGAN smiled softly to Bree when she started throwing the whole 'mindful, demure' trend out in the open. He wasn't a guy who was active on social media, so he didn't know its origin story, but he'd read the news headline about it making its rounds, and it just confirmed even more to Morgan that Bree was the type of person to keep up appearances. He briefly wondered how she would've reacted, had he not put on one of his nicest outfits, and instead gone out in a pair of worn-out jeans and an oil-stained t-shirt. Thankfully, Morgan knew better than to pull a stunt like that. The waiters came with their steaks, and the cowboy thanked them with a warm smile, and grabbed the cutlery, putting his napkin neatly in his lap before digging in. "I meant more..." Morgan hummed as the meat rested on his fork and he thought about how to phrase it right. "D'ya know how he feels 'bout you when you're intimate?" And with that, he popped the piece of well-seasoned steak into his mouth and started chewing, waiting for Bree to answer.
BREE could not believe the portion of meat that was on her plate right now. It occured to her that it was a normal amount and she was just use to trendy places that give you a whisper of food to consume. All of the etiquette classes she had endured had prepared her, however, to eat this steak like a lady. So she waited for Morgan to start before she placed her napkin very gingerly on her lap and picked up the knife and fork and very politely cut into the steak, putting the knife down once she was done. Contemplating his question, she put the fork down and drank some water. "I would answer with horny again, but he is pretty... intense in intimate moments, but he could be that way with every woman he beds." One of the main things she thought about after finding out he had cheated on her. "I do know that he loves- loved me. He told me during our last conversation, but he didn't mean to say it I don't think, so maybe that intensity was love. I'm not sure, he never said anything when we were actually together..." She trailed off before looking at Morgan. It had never occurred to her that Jake might have been showing her love the entire time and she just assumed he was a horny bastard. Maybe she should have come to Morgan sooner, clearly he's some kind of man decoder, which makes sense. As he is also a man. A good man, but a man all the same.
MORGAN tasted the meat; it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. He loved this place; he'd taken his colleagues here, treated them to dinner a few times too, after some difficult days, or to celebrate getting a big movie deal in. He was very much an American man in the sense that he liked a good steak. As Bree explained, Morgan took a sip of the wine that had been rightly paired, the savoury taste of the meat mixing perfectly with the rich red grapes. He nodded along, knowing exactly what Bree meant when she talked about Jake. Sometimes, it was just easier to show feelings through the physical language; whether that was sex or, on the other end of the spectrum, walking away. "I'm not going to ask you about your intimate times, because that's between you and Jake," he was, after all, a gentleman. "But did he take care of you? Did he make sure you were happy? Did he put your needs before his own?" Morgan asked, not just referring to sex. He wanted to help her, but he had to understand the situation first. And he wasn't necessarily sure how to help her, or even with what - help her understand, or help her move on, or whatever third option there was.
BREE finally stabbed the peice of cut meat on her plate with a fork, as ladylike as a person could. Tasting it, she had to savor it. The tenderness, the flavor, cooked to a perfect medium rare and she didn't even think about what kind of effects red meat could have on your arteries, cholesterol and blood pressure. Instead she refrained from closing her eyes and moaning in pure food bliss. In fact, the first thing she thought of was how much Jake would probably like this place and she wondered what it would be like to go on an actual, in public, date with him. Trying not to let missing Jake ruin her mood, she simply drank a little more water and listened to Morgan's follow up questions. It was maybe the first time she thought about his actions verses his words. How he was with her when it was good and when it was bad. "Yes, yes he does." She smiled thinking about it. "Even when we were fighting or I was annoyed about something, he found a way to calm me and make me smile again. He'd usually hug me and give me a kiss on the forehead." It was starting to dawn on her that Jake had shown his love for her a lot. Even just being in a relationship with her, with all of her bullshit showed that it was never just about sex or what she looked like or who she was, to him. All this time, she assumed she cared about him more, that she loved him more, that she was the one giving all of herself to him, but she was wrong. "Shit." she said mroe to herself than Morgan. "i don't think he knew I loved him..." She hid him away, she so easily did what her parents said without a second thought for how it might make Jake feel. She did show her love through buying him stuff. Sometimes stuff he wanted or needed but mostly she'd buy him random things that made her think of him or that she thought he'd like or something he mentioned once offhandedly. It was like she gave him little trinkets to show her love but she never said it and when she had the opportunity to say it after he did, she didn't. Even after they broke up he was all about her, wasn't sleeping with anyone else and was still putting up with her being with everyone but him. "What am I suppose to do?" she asked truly lost on how to proceed.
MORGAN still had a lot to find out about Bree. But what he knew, and what he understood from her, was that the girl seemed to have this whole publicity thing going on, not showing her true self. And Morgan also knew that that came with living in LA. It was all shallow and made-up, and rose-tinted glasses. It wasn't reality; it was Hollywood. And that was what he'd been so against, when he was a teen, and had moved here with his parents. He could see right through that, and wanted the legitness of Montana, where no one cared about walking around in dirty jeans, and didn't constantly use every single second of their day, thinking about what to post on Instagram. But he'd matured, become more 'okay' with the fact that people were living their lives the way they wanted, and if Bree felt like doing this, then he wasn't gonna be the one to stand in the way of that. But the more he spent time with her, the more he found out about the real Bree. The Bree that went horseback riding, and shared intimate details about her past relationships. The Bree that was clearly realizing a few things. Hearing her question, Morgan leaned back in his chair and thought about it for a moment. "Give him time," is what he finally came up with, and leaned back in again. "Give him time and space. He probably needs to think about things. And it allows him to start missing you. If he feels the way that I think he does, then he'll come to his senses again." Morgan took a sip of his wine, trying to read Bree's reactions to what he was telling her. "And when he does, be accepting of his ways of showing you he cares."
BREE listened as Morgan gave his advice and while she hadn't given the man the full story, she didn't think her friend knowing Jake had cheated would really change much. Or maybe she was just trying to protect her ex because she now felt responsible for his choice. Which she knew was irrational and illogical and maybe this time and space will help her process all of this. However, she was concerned that if she gave it too much time and too much space that Jake would simply move on to someone else and she would lose him forever and the thought of that my her stomach drop and her heart shatter. Taking ina deep breath, she smiled at the man across from her. "Thank you. Classes are about to start so it shouldn't be too hard to give he and I some time and space. Even if I don't want to." She looked down and her plate and made to cut herself some more of the steak. "You're turn. I'll leave the potential throuple situation alone since it's new and it sounds like you all are still figuring that out. But I have been curious about you and this Andy person. Why are they so mad at you?" She asked before eating another piece of delicious steak.
MORGAN was the type of person who liked open and thorough communication. Being someone who analyzed things before saying them, he knew that saying the right thing, the right way, was really important. And he tried his best to have that going with everyone he knew. But he was also aware of the fact that other people didn't practice that. And it seemed like that was the problem that Bree and Jake had, in his eyes. The lack of talking, discussing what was actually happening between them, figuring out what was going on made the relationship, at least seem a little bit unstable. But Bree was gorgeous! She was sweet, and - despite their relationship being nothing but friendly - Morgan could still appreciate how sexy she was. He figured that Jake wouldn't just pass up an opportunity to have that. He probably just needed the time to realize it. Taking a sip of his wine, Morgan nodded. "How are ya feelin' 'bout that, by the way? Are ya ready for a new semester?" He asked and set the wine glass down, to proceed to eat again. He listened to Bree's question and sighed as he chewed. Andy. That was such a different situation from Puck and Eva. He swallowed and shook his head, not even knowing where to start. "They're my ex. I broke up with them before moving out here," He started and looked at Bree. "I wasn't the best boyfriend. I worked too much, spent all of my free time tryin' to become somethin' within the rodeo scene, and when I finally had the time, I was injured or exhausted. They didn't deserve that. So when I got the opportunity to come out here and work, I decided it was for the best to end the relationship there. They could easily find someone who'd give them the time and love that they deserve, y'know?"
BREE washed down her bite with some water and a sip of wine, before smiling because she loved being asked about school. And maybe that makes her a nerd but she's still hot so it's fine. "I feel good, I'm going to be TA-ing for an intro computer science course, which is what I got my undergrad in, so I'm pretty excited to be a hardass but I am also prepared to spend a lot of time with my advisor to form my thesis for my doctorate." She answered damn near gleefully. Eating some of the potatoes and veggies on her plate, even those were amazing and seasoned to perfection and for a second she thought about getting some to-go for Jake. But she rebounded in a millisecond, and listened as Morgan answered her question. The whole situation seemed so curious to her, especially now that Morgan explained it further. It just didn't make a lot of sense, but she wasn't sure if she should say anything or not, but she would blame the red meat and wine if asked why she did. "That's... odd. Not you being a bad boyfriend, I can actually believe that. No offense." At the end of the day, he was a man and a human and no matter how good a person is, everybody fucks up, especially in love. "But why are they still mad? I mean it's been years and I can understand being upset about dedicating so much time, energy, effort, love and trust into someone just for it too fail but they have a child and a good job and their own life, they should have processed and moved on by now." Honestly, Bree was talking more to herself than Morgan. "Unless you burned their house down, or got them fired or got them pregnant and dipped, I'm not getting the rage of it all." Finally, Bree realized she was saying all of this out loud and bit the inside of her cheek. "I apologize, I shouldn't be speculating about a strangers motivations, I'm just nosy." She tried to laugh it off before going back to eating her food.
MORGAN had always been impressed with people who did the whole education thing and did it properly. They were able to sit there for hours and hours on end and take in and retain valuable information that could only help them in their own niche interests. At least, that’s how it seemed, the higher up people got on the academic ladder. He himself couldn’t sit still long enough sometimes to take in a whole movie. That was why he struggled with school. But he’d been really damn proud of himself for completing the summer course. “Look at you go!” Morgan exclaimed happily, feeling proud of his friend. “When are ya done with your doctorate?” He asked. He was truthfully interested, and wanted to know. She seemed like someone who valued that honesty and loyalty, and Morgan was all about that kind of life. “None taken,” Morgan quickly replied back – he knew about the whole man vs bear argument that had taken place online and could easily understand women. Men were stupid, they gambled with their life, and generally made poor decisions – he was aware of all of this. The only thing was that Morgan was actively trying to change that about himself and grow into a better version of himself. As Bree started listing off reasons as to why Andy was still upset with him, Morgan shrugged his shoulders. He definitely didn’t burn down their house, or get them fired. But then the last option, the guy just looked at Bree. He’d already asked Andy, but it was a fair assumption – if he had been the father to Oakley, there could be reason for Andy’s resentment. But he’d already asked them, and they’d told them ‘no’ once, and he believed them. “No no, you’re all good – it’s a fair question. But I think it’s honestly because we were separated once before, when we were kids. When we were reunited again a few years ago, it was so easy to fall in love. I think me leaving them again - choosing to separate from them – is the reason for the anger. I promised her that it wouldn’t happen again.”
BREE didn't even have to think about it, the girl had a ten year plan and maybe not everything was going the way she had envisioned it, this aspect of her life was going exactly to plan. "Two more years and then NASA." It actually felt so good to say that and not have to act like she was going to do something 'cooler'. Besides, what was cooler than working for literal NASA? Nothing. It had taken a little bit but Bree was feeling comfortable in this conversation, she wasn't use to people being so open or honest about not wanting to be too open. Usually everything was so read between the lines, but with Morgan it was what is seemed and it made her feel like she could just relax. As he spoke, she felt his explanation was plausible, it still didn't feel like the whole truth, but maybe she was just use to things being 20 layers deep and coated in lies. Morgan knew Andy and Bree didn't. Doesn't mean she didn't still have an opinion. "It didn't have to be the end just because you two weren't together anymore." Maybe she was bias because of her own situation. Putting her fork down, she made purposeful eye contact with her friend. "I hope you're not letting anything they said get to you. Them judging you for who you were three years ago says more about them than it does you. Because I didn't know you then but I know you now and you're a good man, and I don't say that lightly." Sitting back, she took the almost empty glass of wine in her hand. "So if they don't want to get to know you again, that's their loss."
MORGAN couldn't believe just how many smart people attended PSU. He knew that people did the college thing to learn, and become good at something, and that it took a special interest especially, to keep on learning. But he'd also figured that PSU had mostly been a parking lot for rich and famous parents, to put their kidd and have them grow up and behave. But Bree had certainly proved him wrong on that front! On the outside, she seemed like another superficial nepo baby, but it honestly didn't take very long for Morgan to have been proved completely wrong. She was so much more than that! She was smart, yes, but she was also dedicated and motivated, and it impressed Morgan to absolutely no end. Shaking his head, Morgan grinned. He couldn't believe how talented she was. "You're so incredible," he complimented her, absolutely taken aback by her skills. Furrowing his eyebrows, Morgan tilted his head. "I'm not sure what you mean, Bree," He was slightly confused. "D'ya mean our friendship didn't have to end?" He asked her, needing the clarification before he could answer. It did feel nice to talk to someone about Andy, and what had gone down, but Morgan also respected Andy so much, he didn't feel it was necessary to share everything. He shrugged as he listened to her, but then she kept going and he looked down at his empty plate. He hadn't seen it when he'd been dating Andy, but he really had done exactly like his dad had. Thankfully though, no kids had been involved! "Thank you, I appreciate it," he told her, earnestly as he looked back up at her and bit his lip. "I'm working on being more present. So I'm at least being proactive, y'know?"
BREE had kind of forgotten how it felt to be praised by someone who wasn't expecting anything out of her. Usually, if she was being praised by her parents it's because she did what they wanted and unfortunately, she associates praise with that. Probably why she doesn't expect it generally speaking. But it felt nice to be called incredible by someone she thought so highly of. She had no idea how Morgan felt about himself or his accomplishments, but she thought he was a very impressive man and a good man, which is arguably even more impressive. And he went to business school for the summer and that course can't be easy, nothing at PSU is, unless you're making some off the books donations. "Thank you, that means a lot coming from someone as impressive as you." Look at her, giving praise and compliments right back. The cowboy might be a good influence on her. Considering his question, she nodded. "People are friends with their exes, right?" Truthfully, Bree had very little experience with genuine relationships. With the exception of Jake and Joni to a lesser extent, everyone she had been romantically linked to was some form of PR. Thinking about it now, that seemed so very sad. She smiled at his gratitude, glad he took it well and wasn't offended or defensive of Andy. "I bet your current lovers appreciate that." She said cheekily. Looking down at her plate, she had managed about half but if she was going to have room for dessert she wasn't going to need a to-go box for the rest.
MORGAN chuckled and put his napkin on the table. Bree was being sweet and to a certain degree, Morgan felt like he didn't deserve it. He hadn't done years and years of studying, he hadn't been remotely interested until this spring, when he felt like he had the time and energy to do something to enhance his business. He'd just worked every since the day he left high school. And he'd been content with that. He didn't know if that was an impressive feat in any kind of way, he just went about with his day like anyone would. But he took the compliment and washed it down with a sip of water. "Thank you, you're sweet," he said and put the glass back down. The waiter came and took their plates and Morgan thanked him with a smile. This whole evening had been nice and it had felt so good, just getting to know Bree a whole lot better. "Mhmm, I guess they can. We'll see though," Morgan started and shrugged his shoulders. "I'm gonna let them take as long as they need though. They're not quite ready for that, and we'll see if they ever will be." And Morgan respected it. He wasn't the type of guy to push or pressure for his presence to be a part of someone's life. At her teasing little comment, Morgan couldn't help the grin that grew on his lips, and especially not as it turned into a hearty laugh. "I certainly hope so!" He chimed back, as the waiter came back, this time with their chocolate mousses. Grabbing his spoon, Morgan looked at Bree, wanting her to take the first bite so he could watch her reaction to it. "Try it."
BREE almost looked around her to see if someone was behind her, because no one, and she means no one, had ever called her sweet. Smart, beautiful, mean, harsh, combative, difficult, fashionable, all things she's been called, but sweet was a new one. Honestly, she just blushed and moved on because she had no idea what to say and she hoped that was okay. Athough, it seemed this night was full of surprises and firsts as it never occurred to her that she'd be able to sit across from an attractive man at a nice restaurant and not be on a date date. Yet, here she was having an actual conversation with a man and they weren't going to have sex after. Morgan was here, hanging out with her, asking actual questions and answering hers because he simply liked her company and she liked his and it was wholesome. Of course as he spoke she couldn't help but think of her own ex situation, "You sound so evolved and mature. But you also seem like you're not still in love even though you clearly still care about them a lot." She smiled softly and she thought to herself, Andy would come around. Her smile grew as his did and then her eyes went wide looking at the impressive dessert. Truth be told, Bree loved chocolate, but it was so rare for her to have anything sweet that wasn't, sugar free, fat free and low calorie, so this was a real treat and she had to admit, she was excited. Looking at her dinner companion, she didn't have to be told twice. Picking up the spoon she sunk it into the velvety chocolate treat and the moment she took a bite her taste buds did a damn happy dance on her tongue. Holy hell, it was light and airy but so rich at the same time. And that chocolte flavor was pure and sweet with a little bit of that coco bitterness from the powder on top that just paired so beautiful. The texture and the taste was heavenly, and why had she been denying herself for so long? After enjoying that bite, she looked at Morgan, "Oh my god, that might be the best thing I've ever tasted. I need a bowl of this at least once a month." Which would be a lot for her.
MORGAN shrugged his shoulders at Bree’s observations. The whole thing with Andy was slightly complicated. “They were my best friend for so many years, when we were kids. That kind of love doesn’t just go away, y’know?” He said, voice slow, like he was still thinking about it as he said it – but only because he already knew that. There were still feelings for them, but they weren’t the kind where he felt like he was head over heels in love with them anymore – not the way that he had been in the past, where just the thought of them could have his head reeling. No, it was more a care, a worry that they were doing okay. He took it as a compliment that Bree said he seemed mature about the whole thing. That was all he wanted. He wasn’t much for drama and gossip – which was probably terrible, with him living in LA, and being the son of a famous stunt actor. But he’d never liked the superficial side of the city that came with living here, and he didn’t like how it was all gossip and stories that kept being the center of attention. Watching as Bree took a bite out of her chocolate mousse, Morgan grinned. He didn’t even want to think about what the tabloid papers would have to write, if they got a hold of an image like that. It didn’t matter, as long a Bree enjoyed herself! “Only once a month?” Morgan asked and took a bite too. He was surprised by that statement. “I’d eat it once a day if I could!”
BREE nodded, she knew what he meant. Sometimes it was complicated with her best friend from childhood too, but no matter what Bree always cared about her and loved her even if the love wasn't always sexual or romantic in nature. Which was in contrast to her feelings for Jake, which were distinctly uncomplicated. She was in love with him, the circumstances might have added some difficulties but the feelings were as simple as they could be and it seemed unfortunate that she hadn't fully understood them until now, but Bree was nortorious for getting what she wanted. And she wanted Jake, so it would work out in the end because it had to. She suspected the same would be true for Morgan, things with Andy and his two lovers would work out in the end, because it seemed like that's what the cowboy wanted and he deserved to get anything and everything he wanted. The rest of their evening was spent talking and smiling and laughing and Bree had never felt so soft and relaxed. It was refreshing and she also just felt better and less bogged down by everything going on. If the easiness of her companions conversation and smile was anything to go by, she'd guess he felt just the same.

summary: Both Bree and Morgan are dealing with a lot and it turns out a friendship date was all the two needed to work through some complicated feelings.

I will bring you ruin
In everything I do
It’s never my intention but it happens all the same
It starts with love and comfort
Becomes a strength of will
But all that strength made rubble of those towers we built
Ruin by The Amazing Devil

Alternative season AU: noora is the popular and cool third year girl that pretty much everyone in their school has a crush on while eva is a lovable outgoing second year girl. Their paths never met, beside far away stolen glances around school, until eva decides to join the spanish study sessions after school. noora is one of the third year tutors and even if eva is a bit thrown off by this encounter, mostly because she didnt expect her crush to tutor her, the two work really well together. After much courage (and the girl squad’s support) eva decides to add noora on facebook and their study sessions quickly turn into coffee dates, garden dates, museum dates, bookstore dates and many more... eva kissed noora for the first time during one of their bookstore dates while noora was holding several books one above the other trying to not make them all fall. eva simply kissed her while taking half of the books from noora’s hands as if it was the most natural thing to do not even realizing what she had done. long story short they have been girlfriends ever since and noora has become a permanent member of the girl squad [insp.]
for @isakeijjser happy birthday my love 💛
+ bonus after a couple of months of dating eva accidentally finds out that noora applied to the tutoring program just in hope to see her and eva enjoys teasing her about it daily.
