I ran out of tag... (It's mostly like two things that end up becoming annoyingly intertwined the more the series goes on). He was only powerful when it was convenient to the power scaling, which led to him being constantly put in otherwise intensely traumatizing victim situations solely to spur the main character into saving him no matter the cost. Which normally would have only furthered his unrealistic inferiority complex (and also his fear of weakness as well as distaste for weak people given how many people VICTIM BLAMED HIM, which you'd think would only confirm his fucking bias??) which OOPS was made into a... realistic inferiority complex?? Somehow solely to show that the MC somehow managed to grow past the underdog he never fucking was, and since the fans adored this, that became his only character! Yeah, somehow THAT was his big character growth...

He went from a complex, morally grey character to UwU empty ship fodder, and the fans of the series ate it up SO much that one of the main villains (one of the only people who genuinely acknowledged the strength and horrible treatment of my silly guy) telling him 'You're useless actually, I just want to kill you to make that other kid sad lol-' is seen as his PEAK. That. That's his peak. That's the "good ol days" the shipdom romantacizes. A villain poking at his weakness and deepest insecurity is somehow the canonizing moment of the ship (and it doesn't even happen, MC gets mad at his best friend's death for three seconds and then effortlessly kicks the villain's ass, as like the shittiest cherry on top) < it only gets worse from there!

I was also a shipper back in the day, and, in hindsight, I really should have seen the whole shitshow coming, but unfortunately I went on to dedicate six years to this hyperfixation that continues to haunt me three years after I attempted to quit the fandom cold turkey. It didn't even work.

anyway it always makes me sad to read articles from pet owners who have pets die from flea & tick treatment or over the counter medication side effects but if you have animals. you have to understand that any product being sold for your dog or cat is not gonna be NEARLY as regulated as something you buy for a person. if youre giving an animal medication you didnt receive from a vet with specific instructions youre always taking a risk. (and even if it is from a vet, honestly. animals are small. they have delicate systems.) basically in conclusion you should always thoroughly research anything you give to an animal but especially meds. and never use flea collars (but ESPECIALLY not grocery store flea collars come the fuck on.)

I'm posting on Dr. Gay Hitler because that is absolutelt incredible, but a small fact check for the previous post.

Lynchburg is named after John Lynch, whose brother, Charles Lynch, did invent the concept of lynching through extrajudicial Lynch laws. From what I can find, Charles was a colonel during the american revolutionary war, and these were largely just him deciding how to kill British loyalists and soldiers without due process. Dude was ordered to stop a conspiracy to release British prisoners of war by Jefferson, bringing them to Richmond for trial, and decided to kill them all, instead.

And so--lynchings. The other brother might have done the war crimes, but given what lynching has become synonymous with today and the heavy affiliation, there have been calls from as recent as last year to (reasonably) change the name.

I loved this Grantaire so much I cant even describe how amazing he was. All of the storytelling that hapoened wirh his blocking, vocals and actung was incredible and it added so much to the show. Him in the final battle with Gavroche was absolutelt heartbreaking especially when he was the last to die. I am never gonna recover I LOVE HIM SO MUCH

Saw the Les Miserables Tour at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto on May 21 2024; here are my thoughts (Long read, sorry I have a lot of feelings)

Prologue/Look Down/Valjean's Soliloquy

We got like, holographic waves crashing and the men are rowing a boat LIKE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE it's awesome

Oh my god the pipes on the background actors were so good. THE SUN IS STRONG ITS HOT AS HEEELLL BELOW

I miss Javert's stupid guard hat. Was bareheaded as he gave Valjean his yellow ticket

PETIT GERVAIS?????????? Valjean steals a little boy's coin when he's roaming the countryside 😭

Randy Jeter as the Bishop blew me away. Not just his voice but his acting was FANTASTIC every single movement was like. I am an old bishop. This is how an old bishop moves. Idk idk it was really good

Nick Cartell did a great job w Valjean overall, but I totally loved him as pre-MsurM Valjean the most. He acts like a feral animal, grabbing the wine out of the nun's hands and the bread from the priest all hunched over and practically snarling - very very cool and awesome

At the End of the Day

Not a negative but when we went to At the End of the Day there was very minimal lighting and my first thought was Oh no the lighting broke hope they fix it and we don't have to have a brief intermission but then when they went 'At the end of the day there's another day dawning' the lights went up and I was like OHHHHHHHHHHHH so that's just me not understanding lighting direction

Foreman killed it, so did all of the factory workers I love all the interactions and ad-libbing in the background it makes me so happy to see

Every time I saw a tall graceful ensemble member I was like '"That's Kyle Adams" and 8/10 times I was right. Otherwise it was Daniel Gerard Bittner

I Dreamed A Dream

OKKKK VOCALS???? Haley Dortch has such a beautiful, clear, emotional sound and she left not a dry eye in the house. Literally the second intermission hit my parents and myself were like. Holy shit dude what about that Fantine

I got her autograph after the show and she was so so sweet 🥺 She accidentally messed up her signature and had to redo it and was apologising to me and I was like GIRL you brought the house down you could stab me right now and I'd be like 'Thanks have a good one'

Lovely Ladies / Fantine's Arrest

Bamatabois (David Andino) was a standout performance, really chewed the scenery and I adored every second he was on stage (Plus his costume was fantastic)

I like that after the police show up and they basically arrest all of the ladies and pimps, regular well-off citizens come out to witness Valjean defending Fantine from Javert. Thought it was a nice touch

The Confrontation

If you've heard me talk about the confrontation you'll know that I absolutely hate the new chain choreography, HOWEVER. I really really liked it this time. Preston in particular gave it a lot of physicality that I enjoyed

Nick Cartell is a little guy and I don't really believe that his Valjean managed to knock out Preston's Javert

For some reason the percussion was really loud and I could barely hear the vocals so I don't have many thoughts on them

Master of the House / Waltz of Treachery

MATT CROWLE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS

Both Thenardiers were fantastic, not a crazy amount of ad-libbing but when they did they made it count ("BYE, BAGUETTE")

Madame in particular was hilarious

Master of the House is very busy in a good way, everywhere you look interesting things are happening. Another number where the ensemble shines and you can tell everyone is having a blast

The Bargain was funny as hell, Thenardier tells Cosette to die in his arms and she goes limp when he's saying she's 'often been ill'

Look Down / The Robbery

Gavroche was super charismatic and confident, really great child actor (Milo Maharlika)

Eponine tosses Marius' book across the stage and he goes "I like the way you always ... tease 😐" They're such cute friends together

After Enjolras and the boys are done their preaching Enjolras gets stopped by a policeman and is told off 😭

During the robbery Montparnasse keeps Marius away by brandishing his little knife at him which I thought was cute

Also! Montparnasse is the only member of Thenardier's gang to escape during the Robbery!!! Which is a nice Brick reference

After Thenardier's 'In the absense of a victim' spiel he does this exact pose

Gavroche's little 'Clear the streets' 🫡moment is so cute

God I love Preston Truman Boyd

His Javert is so stalwart and reserved and dedicated, he's kind of robocop and it really really works, and you get to see just a smidge of vulnerability peek out in this song

ABC Cafe / Red and Black

I DON'T REMEMBER A LOT bare with me

Grantaire was absolutely the standout. Slapped Marius' butt with his coat. Stuck his wine bottle dick in Enjolras' face. Offered Combeferre a sip of his wine (who reluctantly accepted). Blew a kiss at Enjolras

Kyle Adams physicality is probably my favourite aspect of his Grantaire - he moves very assuredly, like a cat, in a way that is like okay he's drunk but he's so used to being drunk that his stumbling is more like dancing. I remember reading a fic that described Grantaire's movements in a similar way and I wonder if that was one of the fics Kyle took inspiration from?

OOH they did the wine bottle keep-away thing with Grantaire and Marius which I didn't know they still did so that was exciting

J.T Wood is such a cute Joly I love his voice

In Do You Hear the People Sing Grantaire grabs a gun and holds it at arms-length like it has cooties before handing it off to another student

Combeferre waves the flag both times (Here and in One Day More) and I'm not sure if it's always Combeferre who does that or if it's because Andrew Marks Maughan is clearly the most physically strong of the Barricade Boys

In My Life / A Heart Full of Love

Delaney Guyer is a really good Cosette in that she has a gorgeous voice and also has a lot of personality and actually reacts to things going on around her

Marius (who was played by Christopher James Tamayo for this performance) is such a cute little nerd. You can see him try to figure out what he's going to do, then he throws a rock at Cosette's window and kind of cringes at the noise - he's so unsure of himself and awkward

Cosette is very excited that he's here and closes the window right away, which prompts Marius' 'I'm doing everything all wrong!' until she reappears downstairs and they get to be cute dorks in love

Attack on Rue Plumet

I don't remember a lot but I DO remember that Eponine was really good here

When Valjean is like 'Tomorrow we'll away' Cosette goes 'WHAT? NO!'

David Andino is so good as Babet he is a chronic scene stealer at this point

One Day More

If you know Another thing about me you know I hate the One Day More box-step but it actually did not bug me this time. They put Grantaire next to Enjolras for the marching portion which is cute

On My Own

Holy shit Mya Rena Hunter delivered the most heartbreaking and powerful rendition of this I've ever heard

The Barricade

Loved Feuilly in his little part

Javert is a good spy. If I didn't know the plot of Les Mis I would've been like Holy shit that's Javert? Crazy. I love him drawing the 'plans' he'd overheard into the ground with a stick

A Little Fall of Rain

The only version of ALFoR that actually made me feel something

Marius and Eponine get a lot of time to be cute together before the barricade actually notices that she's dying - and Gavroche is the first to notice and gets a front row seat to her death which is heartbreaking

The First Attack

Grantaire's "AND SO THE WAR WAS WON!" was sooo scathingly sarcastic

Javert waited, like, 30 seconds to leave after Valjean freed him, with his back almost against the barrel of Valjean's gun as if he were hoping to be shot

When the gun went off the entire barricade abruptly snapped their heads to look at Valjean and the audience laughed 😭

Telling Valjean 'Well done' for shooting a tied up hostage is a strange choice

Drink With Me

I still hate 'For certain as the eagle flies' I think it's the dumbest line in the entire musical

Grantaire's part was very grand - His voice has like noticeably changed at this point in the musical to give it a sort of hoarse hopeless quality to it which absolutely hits you in the feels

Enjolras comforted him and I swear Grantaire let his hand linger on his cheek for a few seconds longer than normal before pushing him away

Gavroche hugged Grantaire from behind and Grantaire couldn't even turn around at first because he was so distraught and kind of blindly reached for him 😭

Chris Tamayo's Marius is such a poor little meow meow

Bring Him Home

Absolutely jaw-dropping performance from Nick Cartell

He sings Bring Him Home like it's a lullaby - which it's supposed to be

I don't exaggerate when I say that the applause went on for about a minute straight, and was the loudest of the night by far

Death of Gavroche / The Final Battle

Oh poor thang

Grantaire near the end of Gavroche's singing was turned away facing the audience like he knew Gav was going to die and couldn't bear to watch 🥺

Later on in the final battle Grantaire spends most of the time next to Gavroche's body in like a catatonic state

The SPOTLIGHTS representing BULLETS as Les Amis died almost made me lose it

Grantaire dies last, I'm sure he said something before he started climbing the barricade but I couldn't hear it 😭He and Enjolras still have their moment over Marius' body

The Sewer

Javert comes across Enjolras' cart-carried body (Still hate the cart but I can learn to appreciate it) and looks a bit uncomfortable

Then he stumbles upon Gavroche's corpse, kneels, and does the sign of the cross over him

Javert looked like he wanted to shoot Valjean as he walked away with Marius

I don't have many thoughts on the rest but I loved Marius and Cosette reading Valjean's confession as he walked away with Fantine - and the Bishop hugging him as he arrives in heaven

Also Kyle Adams as Major Domo mincing about the stage in The Wedding was an absolute delight

Am very sleepy now but overall 10/10 I love this cast so much

Papyrus (Sloth) - incredibly lazy, but very efficient when forced to work. Works quickly and alone, is used as a weapon. Very slight yellow tinge to bone from constantly being in sun. Sans (greed) is one of Asgore’s top fighters. Rivals Undyne in skills and adequacy, but is not as quick to react. Very energetic, always looking for a new task from the king. He wants Asgore to be the only ruler, and to be his right hand man. Will do anything to get what he desires. Is mostly sent out to scavange and plan attacks on other bases, both human and monster. He is one of the best fighters and the front line defense for Asgore’s land. He is the strongest member in Asgore’s guard.

Asgore (wrath) is enraged that his wife is fighting against him. While he doesn’t want her or her followers dead, he wants them all on one knee and following his orders without question. He does not tolerate any form of disobedience, intentional or unintentional. More often than not, those who don’t follow his orders are put to death. However, he will go to what ever length needed to ensure his people are healthy and relatively happy. He’s overly stern, barbaric, but responsible and can be reasonable at times. He ultimately rules with fear, and will not hesitate to have anyone or anything killed out of sheer want.

Toriel (envy) Toriel is a much kinder ruler than her counterpart. Her followers health and happiness comes first, and she doesn’t order attacks unless she feels an attack is coming her way. Has a prison system for those who cross her but death sentence is rarely used and is looked down upon. More strategical than Asgore, but slower to act. Only uses her strongest weapon, Papyrus, when absolutelt necessary.

Alphys (lust) Alphys has an insane take on scientific views, altering the bodies of humans and monsters in Asgore’s land to her hearts content. She will remove limbs and replace them with metallic weapons, or alter the magic of a monster. She will take and absorb souls of others who Asgore deems worthy of death. She lusts to be as powerful as possible, to outrival the God that escaped her. However, she has found a way to allow monsters to live overly extensive lives, and can add about eighty years to a humans life, along with keeping their body from aging.

Undyne (pride) Undyne is the head of Toriel’s army. She plans and consults with Toriel on every move, every detail, to create a foolproof plan for each situation encountered. She is what makes Toriel the most successful warlord on the face of the vacant earth. Her pride will get her in trouble, as she has times where she takes on more than she can handle with solo missions.

Flowey (gluttony) flowey works with Toriel and somewhat with Papyrus. Flowey heads into each fight alone at first to do as much damage as possible to the enemies before the army comes in. He is a glutton for pain. He doesn’t protect himself, he allows himself to be hurt and revels in it as punishment for what he’s put everyone through. At times he will actively seek out fights for the sake of getting injured. Though, he is the driving force of Toriel’s army, able to destroy the tallest buildings and deepest bunkers with ease.

I visibly have 4 levels of anger in my typing, it's somewhat related I swear:

1: mild annoyance, you can see somethings when I type

2: bigger annoyance where you can clearly tell I am angry

4: So incredibly angry that my brain loops back again and I'm only capable of complex sentences with big words fur some reason

Instead of "fuck you", id say "my good sir, i would be ever so grateful if you would go off and fuck yourself, for you have annoyed me very much indeed"

(I know thats not actually completely accurate to how they spoke, its just the vibe yknow?)

Also posh English lady is the only accent i can do other than my own, which can be annoying

Your experiences resonate with me despite the fact that my default mode is hyperverbal, because there have been several periods of my life where trauma and other compounded stressors have triggered non-verbal or semi-verbal episodes where I suddenly struggle to get words out. These episodes for me present very similarly and have had similar negative impacts on relationships while they lasted. The emotional aspect I experience like a block, where I want to say something but just can't force the words out, and the physical aspect I experience as extreme difficulty making my mouth form the words, causing me to struggle with enunciation, and the anxiety this causes makes me shake uncontrollably and makes my voice quaver.

Its extremely frustrating during those periods because it absolutely isn't a case if "I just don't want to talk", it's usually the exact opposite. I have intense emotions and I *need* to express them to process them and my primary outlet is talking, so to struggle to communicate my emotions compounds my anxiety and depression. I haven't experienced these episodes frequently enough for them to affect casual socia interactions, but they definitely affect my close friendships, my relationships with my coworkers and my marriage.

I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I don't struggle with these episodes regularly, but I absolutely feel for anyone who does, especially anyone who has had their struggles dismissed and invalidated by ableist teachers, therapists and loved ones. My cousin was in speech therapy for years and most people still find him extremely difficult to understand. He's treated as if he is lazy or unintelligent. He isn't. He's incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable, but the way people react to his speech makes people dismiss his abilities, which made school a living nightmare and has derailed his life. The stigma that is associated with speech disorders is very real, and is as absolutelt as awful and ableist as the stigma associated withother disabilities.

Let’s talk about being nonverbal and having speech impediments

Being nonverbal and having speech impediments is common when you’re disabled. However, they are extremely watered down to “they just don’t wanna talk” or “haha yeah they just stutter, they’ll grow out of it.”

I recently learned that I have speech apraxia. About a few weeks ago. Nobody told me, I had to find out myself, like everything else. The papers are there, though. Ever since I could remember, I was put into speech therapy because I “stuttered.” I BARELY ever stutter. I can’t say certain letters together and and I have speech blocks in most of my sentences. I talk, but talking makes me exhausted and I just prefer not to talk. Despite all of that, I’m known as the “stuttering” person. That’s what my speech impediment is watered down to. It’s so bad that it’s a disability and hinders my every-day life. Employers pull me aside and ask “Why are you here? You know this job requires communication with people, right?” As if I’m not aware that’s what life is all about. People rarely form bonds with me because of it. They go off on tangents about how they thought they couldn’t be close to me because “I couldn’t talk” but had a change of heart.

I was in speech therapy for 12 years but they didn’t help me with anything. For the most part, they scolded me when I couldn’t say something right or get something out. For the most part, they were frustrated. I had a couple of good speech therapists, but they didn’t help. The most they did was tell me to repeat words and sentences on cards. Even now that I’m in college, the people who handle giving out accommodations didn’t help me, even after interacting with me and noticing the severity of my impairment.

For a brief time of my childhood, I was nonverbal, but I don’t remember the experience enough to speak about it. Nonetheless, I still think that speech impairments are extremely watered down and are swept under the rug.

I constantly hear passive aggressive jokes, like when someone has a good opinion on something, “wow she didn’t stutter!! queen!!” The most common “joke” is people repeating the impaired sentence I just said right back at me. It happens all the time. How do they not realized how fucked that is? It happens during chit-chat and in food lines. Not as much recently, but especially when I was younger or when I’m around family.

I’m going off on this tangent because nobody is aware of how much the speech impediments we have affect us. Talking is hard. It’s hard to form bonds. It’s hard to order food and interact with people. This April, I want people to see another part of Autism and other disabilities: speech impediments. This is the rock that’s rarely flipped over.

I would love for someone to attach their experience of being nonverbal somewhere. I barely ever see one that isn’t someone’s mom ranting about how badly they want to force their child to talk.

SUMMARY: STOP WATERING DOWN SPEECH IMPEDIMENTS AND DISABILITIES.
