Dolly also said that it was an inside joke between her and her husband- that the song wasn't born of her own insecurities or the fear that her husband would actually leave her, it just became a lighthearted play between the two of them to talk about Jolene from the bank (who was beautiful and seemed a bit smitten with him).
It's actually a really cute and fun fact that separates the narrative of the song from Dolly Parton's actual life. While it's true she pulled from real life aspects (inspiration from her real husband and the beautiful bank teller Jolene), the story was by no means a one to one retelling of her life or lived experiences! (That's also why the song focuses so much on Jolene's appearance, rather than including any aspects of Carl Dean, her husband who prefered to live a private life without being treated like a spectacle for loving his wife)
