To say that he is possessive would be an understatement — he is extremely territorial.

After his torture, he is wary of the few things that he posesses and can actually call his own (you). His biggest phobia is losing you, and his irrational fear is someone stealing you away. Any prick unlucky enough to not catch on to you two dating will be lucky enough to survive the beating that he is given.

On that note, he is simultaneously self-assured, and insecure.

His mask is a part of him, and personal. It will take him months for him to shed said part of him.

Constantly fears that you will leave him once he reveals his face to you, so puts it off for as long as he possibly can. The day that he takes off his mask, only for you to be so casual about it and passing it off as your day-to-day, is the day that became cemented in his hard, stony heart.

Has conflicting views towards marriage. On the one hand, is an official document declaring your relationship really so necessary? Isn't an expensive wedding superfluous, and too sensational? To him, all of that is redundant — he's yours, and you're his…

…On the other hand, a glistening ring on your finger invokes a primal desire to make you more his than you are already. It would be a declaration of a love which even death wouldn't do part. Maybe he should pay more attention to the rings on display at the jewellery stores you pass by when shopping occasionally together.

An introverted man, who finds solace in solitude; excluding you, his partner, he has no companions, and rarely associates with anyone else. The voices in his head are bothersome enough, so why does he need additional voices bothering him? With that said, you would think that your presence would be a bother — especially with your mindless chatter when Nikto doesn't grunt at the idle small talk at times, wholly unresponsive for the majority of the time — but the moment you give any indication of leaving, he seizes your wrist, his cold, icy eyes silently pleading for you to stay. And you do. You always do.

Bringing me onto my next point: he is a good listener. Your ramblings are all that to you; ramblings. To Nikto, however, it's his chance to unpick all the information about you, down to the littlest of details. You wrongly assume that your words fall on deaf ears, but he listens, and he memorises every opinion you have, every statement you make, and even the small anecdotes that you share, which becoming engraved in his brain. He goes over every sentence religiously, as if it was the Bible.

He has an exceptionally good memory, tending to remember things that you had forgotten. Mention something that you craved in passing? He would surprise you with it the next time you bring it up. Alluded to someone who insulted you and ruined your day? Well, it would be no surprise that that person would never ruin your day ever again.

He is like a cat in the sense that he is an unwanted stray. However, when you came to want him, it dawned on you that he was no cat, but a panther. A predator — savage, vicious.

He would kill for you, no questions asked (He has already done it, but you don't know about that. After all, you hadn't asked him that question yet, only in jest. Truth be told, he has made so many death threats that you have become desensitised to them, dismissing them as nothing more than that: threats).

Incredibly stealthy. You've seen his execution animations… 🤒 Uses that stealth to sneak up on you whenever your guard is down to smack your ass. 🤭

Insomnia troubles him at night, the relief of sleep rarely coming to him; therefore, he tends to be nocturnal, buying groceries and going about the usual errands you would have otherwise done during the day. When you wake up, that empty fridge is magically stocked with your favourite food, your bear snoozing sometimes — most of the time he stares at you like a creep. 💀 /aff

When he does sleep, it tends to be during the day, and it's almost as if he is a bear entering hibernation

He sleeps like a plank — on his back, his arms by his sides, and his legs straight. You'll curl onto his side, your head on his chest, his legs between your core, and a strong arm wrapped around your waist.

Snores. REALLY loud. 😬 ONLY when you are in his arms 🙄 — when he sleeps alone, he is eerily silent.

Proud of being your protector. Always has his hand[s] on you in some way or other, protectively keeping you by his side.

Has 20/20 vision, and perfect hearing.

Don't mistake his opening of pickle jars and water bottles for you as chivalry — he is taking advantage of it to show off his muscles for you. Doesn't want you to ask if you want to cup a squeeze of his bicep — when he sees you staring, he will forcibly take your hand and put it on his arm, positively smirking beneath that mask of his.

Has a staring problem and is unashamed of it. From his point of view, there is no problem in staring at you all day and every day.

heyy i saw your latest post about john's aromantic trutherism and i didn't exactly understand what you mean by that... could you explain? i too don't think he is actually in love with abigail if that's what you were saying...?

hiii!!! 1: thank you for asking about this im excited to write and analyze him in this way

2: plsplspls get the idea outta ur head that aromantic people cant love. noooo i couldnt have been misunderstood more. i wanna clarify that i do think john loves abigail. i just dont think that love is all that romantically motivated and ive got a few reasons to believe so.

3: uhhhh uhhh this ended up being like 2.5k words of analysis on john im sorry. no one on tumblr has asked me my thoughts about him before so this is the first time im talking about a lot of the stuff here and theres so much ive thought about johns character and its all messy and intertwined. itll be a little all over the place. i am deeply sorry.

okay. first reason? hes otherwise not much of a romantic. whether he wants to be or not, he falls flat on his face every attempt there is at being romantic with abigail (rarely do we see him be romantic with other women) is usually met with disdain, if there even are many to begin with. its rare to hear john say something pleasant about having a woman, and its rare to ever witness them having a good time together while in the gang. 

...up until the epilogue and john gets his shit together. but by that point i could argue further analysis as to how john isnt wholly himself by that point. hear me out.

john and arthur are two halves of one whole to me. its clear theres some sort of void in john after arthur dies, and he still holds the memory of arthur very very dear. he does his best to keep the memories alive, in fact, in a way to keep arthur alive. 

this starts extending to some kinda interesting parallels, though. writing and drawing in arthurs journal like he did, the hat being placed on johns head, john proposing with marys ring, the phrasing and tone of johns proposal is also shockingly familiar to arthur telling john that itd make him happy if john went to his family... after arthurs death, i find john taking on many of his traits even. he becomes more quiet and closed off, we see it even in rdr2 with arthur telking him to "knock it off with the whole being mysterious thing" or whatever. arthur claims its to act like dutch, but ill do you one better, its clearly just john idolizing his older brother and trying to be like him to be a proper man. this brings me to my next point...

the time period of rdr2!!! yayyy cowboys, the victorian era, Did u know. being a man was something you had to do in previous american and european cultures? this slowly started fading as we roll over into the 20th century, but there was a lot of emphasis placed on performing your role as a man. to be a good man, you must do xyz. otherwise, you are seen as immature, as a boy, as a child. 

throughout the entire series of red dead redemption, both 1 and 2, theres a lot of stuff pointing towards jogns struggle to Be A Man. arthur and dutch frequently refuse to let him grow up, still calling him "little john" and still treating him like hes a rowdy unruly boy that needs to learn better, not a man who should know better. hosea is the only man treating john like hes a man, and even then id say hes fairly lax with the guy. only as the story of rdr2 progresses do we see arthur start to shift his view towards john. not as a boy to stay a boy, because the gang isnt gonna be around forever. john cant keep being a boy. he needs to become a man, take care of his family. 

working off a distinctly gentleman influenced view of masculinity, johns inability to be a man is almost directly tied to his inability to be a proper romantic for his wife. compared to arthur, who is seen taken women on dates and flirting with them just to make them laugh at times. hes dancing with the ladies and helping them up and down the coaches, wagons, and horses. john like. just barely remembers to do that for abi in the epilogue. again, his failings to be a true romantic are tied with his failings as a man. 

in rdr1, this even extends to bill having the bit of dialogue, "you always were a scared little boy!" continuing to imply that john is not a man, hes never been a man. the only reason we can read him as a man Now is because we are going by arthurs definition of manhood. we can extend this further and say bill still views john as a boy because john does not live up to bills expectations of manhood- while arthur may view being a man as something chivalrous, more gentlemanly, bill clearly views masculinity as power and violence, without much to do with women. john does not live up to that, to bill, until the end.

if you read "masculinity" as "being romantic and chivalrous towards women", then, as john fails at being a romantic, he too fails at being a man. there are a lot of other ways john is immature and childish but this is a really easy one to point out if you know the time period and just how much emphasis was placed on both romanticism and manliness, and how they intertwined.

third reasoning for aro john: his family wasnt his for so much of his life. this one is another one that needs a bit of elaboration i fear.

the story of john and abigail getting together is simple enough. she joined the gang at 17 as a sex worker, slept around with some of the gang, then for one reason or another, very clearly believed that the pregnancy was johns. john runs away for a year.

in this time, we dont know a whole lot about what gang life was like without john. however, with arthurs comments about marrying abigail himself and loving her, and his close relationship with jack, i think its pretty clear arthur was the one being a man in johns place. when john left, there was a john shaped hole arthur had to fill. (i also like to think this because the potential misery of arthur having to lose his family a second time once john returns is fun to me.)

even in the story of rdr2, we see john Love and Care For his family, but its never in the same, romantic way arthur seems to involve himself in abi and jacks lives. john will defend them with his life, but when it actually comes to pulling himself up by his bootstraps and being a father or a husband, he kinda just drags his feet and gets lost. he has to be told to reunite with his family at jacks party, despite, in my eyes, his love for jack being very clearly displayed while they were looking for him. 

this is only bolstered by the conclusion of rdr2, with john and arthur on the mountain. arthur, in all his holy parallels, like jesus passing the virgin mary off to john the beloved, arthur tells john it would make him very happy if [john] went to be with his family and left. arthur is passing his family off onto john, the same as jesus passed his family onto saint john. (this one hits harder if you know the rest of the "arthur is jesus" parallels and symbolism but i feel like those would be more impactful as a web weave, and i cant make one right now haha. most obvious one i can think of to support this though is arthur being a scapegoat, dying for the gangs sins.) remember these points they are the most important and will come back later.

reason number four: "but javier-!" shhhhshshsh lemme talk. yes. john is infinitely more intimate with javier than abigail. however, again, we must take the time period into account.

not that far off from many disgusting redpill communities today, back in the 1800s it was typically expected for men to socialize with men and women with women. there was a certain level of bonding you only had with your wife, as well as a certain level of bonding you only had with the men who were close to you. 

i have got to grab this fandom by the shoulders and say rockstar did not make these men as affectionate as they should have been with each other, and thats completely platonically. this is taking romance out of the equation, these men considered each other brothers and family. they were all in a cult together. they would have been very close, and also very affectionate! they would confide in each other and hold each other and cry to each other. they would make gifts for each other and sing and dance together. you can at least see them all pass around beer bottles between each other.

do i think john and javier are closer than most? yes absolutely. do i think javier is in love with john in some way? yes absolutely. do i think its romantic? ehhh maybe. do i think john loves javier? yes absolutely. do i think its romantic? ....noo not really. their whole dynamic reads as one sided through and through to me. even if they ever got together im sure they were quickly apart again, and i doubt the relationship would have been fulfilling in the ways javier would want, leaving him longing still.

the "ive always loved you, even now" immediately funneling into a crate being shoved onto john to knock him over can also be metaphorical- javiers love is disarming to john Because he does not know how to react to it. hes never known how to react to it. hes never known how to react to love from anyone, because "love" seems to feel so much different for everyone but him.

reason ff. fiiiiive. dear god. im sorry for this being this long: john loves. he clearly loves very hard. he was clearly wrecked by arthurs death, he would clearly crawl through hell for his family, he was clearly hurt because his love for javier eventually stabbed him in the back. however, to me, a lot of this love feels similar to the love john has for dutch, or arthur, really. its familial, its platonic, it sure as hell isnt romantic. (even if the games themselves like to joke about it being so lol.)

its just clear to me that he loves. he cant not love jack and abi after everything hes done for them. he cant not love javier after being so close for so long. but in the same vein, he cant not love dutch for the same reasons. ysee what i mean? his devotion to his wife and child feels identical to the devotion to dutch, compared to arthur, whos devotion to eliza and isaac directly went against his devotion to dutch.

much like with dutch, where john was still seen as a boy, he will ferociously do the big things for his family (saving jack, defending the ranch, tackling gangsters and robbers). he will almost always fail to do the little things that would make him a true man, though. yknow. winding down, relaxing, just working, not getting involved in fights. spending some time with his family maybe. 

he can shape up and be good, he just never does. 

and i think thats why hes so torn between leaving on his own, leaving with his family, or staying with the gang. theres no difference between romantic, platonic, or familial love for him. when arthur tells him to go be with his family and john replies "youre my brother" its not only announcing arthur as family, but i think it only reinforces that blurred line of what love is for john. "i love you the same as them, why must i leave you behind? if they are family and i love them, then you too must be family, for i love you."

point six: i hope you remembered the first few points like i told you to. you did remember right

this brings us back around to john not being a man by not being a romantic, arthurs family being passed off to him, and also john not wholly being himself later on. in the epilogue, between 1899 and 1908, we hear about how john has been unable to avoid trouble and has them on the run still. whenever abigail asks something of him, he instead goes and does what he wants. its only after she leaves him (ultimate failure of being a man) do we see him start to shape himself up again, and i would argue this shaping up increases substantially after he reunites with charles. charles sets him on the right path and reawakens that memory of arthur. i imagine being close to blackwater also helps here. id argue due to charles' apparent closeness with arthur, and then sudden closeness to john due to john being all thats left of arthur... it makes john also feel like hes all thats left of arthur. i believe after speaking with charles and thinking to himself, he decides to fulfill the one dream arthur had, seemingly, at the end: take care of the family he had lost. well, eliza and isaac are six feet in the dirt so next best option: abi and jack. 

john starts to become quieter and more in his own shell- by rdr1 hes struggling to even really ask people for help with the most basic things. he becomes a lot more of a romantic speaker. he had always used fancy words with the gang, but never with charismatic purpose in the way i feel he does in rdr1. he starts making the decisions he thinks arthur would make. as a result, the hole that arthur left behind when he died, does not get filled by john. instead it simply gets filled with whatever arthur john can muster from within himself.

id also like to bring up john being the favorite, but not the golden boy. he was the youngest and most spoiled, but he was not the one dutch turned to for just about everything. he was still living in arthurs shadow, so i imagine all of that also plays a role in johns choice to live like arthur to get his family back, to be a man. he failed at being a man by his own merits. arthur was a real man by his own merits, lets just do what we've always done and look up to our older brother about it. copy what he does. clearly hes got it all figured out, even though you know he didnt, after reading the journal. 

this all is finally bolstered by john making the choice to kill micah and repeat the VDL cycle of violence, which ruins the perfect life he made for himself. he makes another decision HE, not arthur, HE would make, and thus has to deal with the consequences. 

in conclusion: i think john loves a lot and very hard. hes passionate about these people. but in his own words towards javier that start to become readable as projection, "hes a cynic that wants to be a romantic" and "hes all passion, no love ('no love' being how he perceives it, due to the views of those around him. he loves abigail and jack, he loved arthur, though because his version of love was different than theirs, its not read as love. therefore, he has none in his own eyes)." 

all of this coupled with a detached attachment style that leaves him cold and distant leaves him being tugged along in romances he truthfully does not feel the same about. he says he does, because he loves, but he doesnt know why the love isnt the same. so, clearly, since he loves, he must want the romance. he has to perform it for love regardless of if he truly does want romance or not. if he loves, he must be a romantic, and hes failing at being a romantic, so he cant be himself. he must be someone else in order to convey his love to his family.

-In my head Bobby loves watching those slice of life + action animes- maybe like spy x family and buddy daddies but i also feel like ouran high school host club would have a special place in his heart

-Although I also believe that Bobby would read the most beautiful and probably really tragic mangas ever like I can see him falling in love with the art style of Toilet Bound Hanako kun or the storyline of Your Name or like the tragic plot of the Summer Hikaru died

-Nicholas grew up watching Pokemon XYZ while Bobby adored Pokemon Sun and Moon and Eugene (or Seiji) watched Pokemon Black and white- they talk to each other and nerd out about it once they find out

-I dont know if I see Tanner as someone who would watch anime but I think it would be really funny if he watched education based ones to skip studying like Dr stone and Cells at Work and he just got really invested at some point and brought Kally in it too

-Seiji and Nicholas watch Windbreaker together (the anime not the biker manwha) (this is me projecting my fixations on fence characters if you couldnt tell) argue with the wall/j

-I feel like Terrence (the black haired guy with one eye in MLC team) has an active wattpad account he doesnt use anymore

-I feel like Sungchul is just your average student and when you get to know him you are just shocked at how many extracurriculars and sports this man does at his free time like damn how does he fit all that in his schedule

-Seiji has watched Trigun Stampede (2023) liked Knives but grew to like Vash as his favorite character (catch my drift pls)

-While I feel like Halverton team bonding comes at the form of dnd nights i think that Macrobertson team bonding consists of movie nights where they watch tv shows like Brooklyn 99 and Modern family

-Dante, Bobby, Nicholas and Eugene playing pokemon while chilling in Bobbys dorm with Seiji leaning on Nicholas watching him play guys hear me out

-I know that its canon that Aiden and Harvard watch classic movies with sword fighting to judge them but consider that whoever picks a movie that day chooses one with a romantic storyline that fits their relationship (even if the romantic storyline isnt the focus of the movie) so they both just sit there watching a movie where the side character happens to be pining for her childhood best friend while the main character is trying to plot against the antagonist and also they have swords

-Kyle would play competition games like Fall guys or Mario kart while Nicholas would play something like Hades for the challenge and Jesse would probably have the watermelon game and block blast on his phone lmao

-Jesse and Nicholas are the type to know like really niche stuff in totally different spectrums

Am I the only one that truly recognizes Carter for a victim AND a villian (idk how else to word this 1st sentence but this isn't pro carter, or even anti). He keeps making choices and going down this bad path that he was undoubtedly groomed into at one point. Declan has proved to be worse/more powerful. My take is that it's only fair that Declan gets his comeuppance (haven't watched the new episode yet so idk); presumably he will though possibly after a long string of acting as the villian arc going by Hollyoaks' way of doing things. Carter was once a young boy that was taken advantage of that has years and years of a poor and incorrect belief system to guide him into his own kind of monster, but the thing is the show paints that idea for you. It's more subtle, but it does acknowledge how he was a victim, giving you information on his childhood/context clues (i dont need it spelled out). The parallels with Lucas are obvious and intentional. I do think his fate/ending was always what it's going to be. His relationship with John Paul was always purposeful to his character arc. It served as a useful tool to show a softer side and make you feel for his painfully closeted life. But he was always going down a deeper hole and dark path, because not only was he terrified and lying to himself (understandable), but he would go to the furthest lengths for his own benefit if he had to from the start. He used Maxine to send a message to JP inviting him to see them after sleeping together, he blindsided him more than once, tried CT on him, only went back with remorse when he wanted to hook up, and generally intentionally hurt people if it'd meant it'd protect himself. With JP, what started as a hopeful union between the two was tainted with Carter lying, setting out to trick him, and literally using him down to his weak, yet selfish desire of his lusting after JP following his mistreatment towards him time and time again. Like did Carter ever ever care about JP at all, or did he just have an understandable desire to explore his sexuality as a closeted, non-admitting man, so that's why he pursued anything? (also note the "relationship" started too quick and crashed /burned just as fast, which was the point whether they ever worked out or not)

It's entirely possible for adults to have gone through their own kind of trauma as a child that contributes to their experiences and behaviors and for that behavior to not automatically be demonized because of the long-lasting effects trauma can have, but that's a case-to-case judgement. Maybe Carter would turn out better had he had help and a good support system, long long ago, a juxtaposition to Lucas. But that's the thing, experience makes different outcomes and that's not what happened; once xyz happens the course of time is changed forever and sometimes you can't go back and people that go on to do awful things don't get an eternal permit of an explanation as to why they did the bad acts, meaning you should go easy on them; this happens often when 1 goes on to be the abuser or utilize their power dynamic. My thing is, it's okay for Carter to be recognized as a victim in his own right [please, please do (don't just take 1 part of this post & misunderstand)], but that doesn't have to be mutually exclusive to his villian status that has been well on it's way since the beginning; it is possible for a character to be recognized as a victim without the promise of a redemption arc.

Had this AU idea for saboace where Ace survives just barely but thanks to the news everyone thinks he's dead still cuz there's a brutal picture of his body bloodied and unconscious on the front page and he does look low-key dead so he has to disguise himself somehow and hide while simultaneously training up his haki (cuz I don't think he really did much with his haki, I think he had it but didn't like using it and refused to train it up, I headcanon that he did this on purpose to spite Roger who also had haki, honestly I refuse to believe Ace wouldn't have been dozens of times stronger if his haki had been properly evolved. Though he absolutely has all forms of haki already awakened cuz he's just that much of a badass, anyway).

The only place they can think of to hide him is right under everyone's noses, so he somehow wiggles his way into the revolutionary army. He's not too happy with it cuz he's got beef with Dragon (hey whyd you abandon luffy) and Dragon I think knows it's him despite the disguise but says nothing cuz that's none of his business (Kermit meme here) and since it was announced Ace was fully dead Sabo regained his memories and already had that super fun nervous breakdown and three day coma and is NotDoingWell™ and Dragon is a Dad so he's like "imma push these two together and hope they realize the connection, surely my Chief of Staff is smart enough to recognize who this is" but he underestimates Sabo’s Spicy Trauma cuz he does not realize.

And Ace knows it's Sabo but he's told by a few of the other revolutionaries that Sabo still has amnesia (yeah man he can't remember shit from his childhood from what I've heard), bummer he's only heard it from random footsoldiers and not those closest to Sabo but it's fine I'm sure. So Ace is like "oh I may fuck him up more if I fling my disguise off and tell him we know each other so imma just be quiet" and Sabo is like "wow I let my bro and first ever friend and high key love of my life get murdered I wish I was dead:)" and Dragon is like "guys plz just kiss".

-the next ep opens with yuya, gongenzaka and yuzu actually TALKING ABOUT ALL THIS, swapping info, and thank GOD for that!!!! I felt like yuzu was the only one of them involved heavily in the main plot for a while there!!! yuya was actually pretty serious about it, which is Nice to see (again, hes starting to feel more like a 'protag' to me now…)

-sora and yuto confrontation leads to an escape from the hospital and a duel, of course…that shun doesnt WANT to continue bc sora is obviously! hurt! and yuto isnt HEARTLESS. sora is desperate to Prove Himself (making me wonder if academia punishes ppl who dont…do well or agree to help them…) and fucking yuya finally steps in to help. altho given the context clues. well buddy it doesnt sound like soras on the Correct Side! it sounds like! hes the bad guy here! (or, raised in that mindset at least, not the main bad guy but def needs to be treated carefully) n u shouldnt be dueling yuto at all bc u dont understand the situation!! AUGH. to add to the conversation about meta and critical analysis and stuff i just want to say that critical analysis isnt bad in general. Hear me out though keep scrolling if you dont want to read a long discoursey kinda post but its not neg for reference /srs.

NOT A VAGUEPOST! I am commenting solely on trends of things in the fandom since my experience being here since 2020 writing meta since january 2021.

many people (like me for example) enjoy writing analysis that is through a critical lens even though we enjoy the narrative and character. Some people enjoy writing through that lens and they dont like that character or narrative. some people dont like the narrative or character at all and it would be critical. i think at least in all my experiences in fandoms is a really normal part of fandom analysis and enjoying a story and is fine! if you maintag you for sure should tag your crit and stuff but in general i think this on the whole isnt bad. Gen really weird cc neg is bad, and theres some other nuance of course but thats not the main pt of my post, but i dont think thats the majority of critical analysis in any fandom including this one we are in here. I just want to stress that people engage in this fandom in various different ways as they do in all fandoms.

I think what is really stressful is the vagueing that goes on. and for the record i am not vagueing anyone specifically by saying that and none of my mutual or people i follow or anyone at all, once again i am commenting on trends ive seen /srs! Like meta has become really difficult in my experience in fear of the neg that comes along with it or the thought that people "hate the dream smp/the content" or "hate cc's" etc because of it or even "cc's dont do lore because of posts like this". And i think that's something that needs to be addressed and talked about because it's something that we're all aware of existing and its definitely been a source of contention i think...

I think reblogging someones meta directly to discuss or add your own points (i always include a pls add on personally!) and or sending that person an ask if theyre willing to is also fine. I also think being inspired by meta to write your own points is quite fine too, those are all really enjoyable parts of fandom analysis.

and to use a personal example i know a lot of people who dont like c!ranboo or his narratives and after the ghostboo caimsey stream i remember there being a lot of discourse. I personally dont block crit analysis or anything bc i usually like to read it regardless, but i remember having a vastly different view of that stream and the narratives! So what i did was make meta about the lore from my perspective without vagueing anyone or have ties to what i read. I just was like "i really liked xyz and heres why" kinda posts. Its also crit analysis and all sorts of meta in general that have helped me change my views of characters or explore new narratives because of the different views i see about it.

What i'm trying to say is that like i think we can exist in a world where fandom crit and meta and noncrit meta and silly hcs and etc. can be enjoyable and cohesive together though i do realize there is some nuance to what i'm saying and this doesn't really handle all circumstances within this discussion.

And maybe youre a person who crit analysis stresses them out and it ruins your fandom experience. I think this is very valid but i think in fandom spaces we need to find ways to curate our own experiences. i'll admit some lore discourse has stressed me out too but i generally dont engage with it or i start ask games or hc games or i write unrelated meta or things just to avoid it. I dont have a lot of solutions for this other than: tag discourse and crit in maintagged posts, ask people you are mutuals with or follow if they can tag something (though there is no guarantee someone will and thats a okay!! you may need to block this person or their personalized blog tags for lore analysis), and or do what i do and write meta about how you did love a stream and why and start new discussions. Though i'm not sure of any other solutions off the top of my head, so i'm happy to hear more solutions.

The reason i'm writing this post is because of the crit analysis = you hate a cc and you just hate the narratives and you dont love the dsmp at all and you hold them at too high a standard etc etc etc kinda mindset i've seen since like late 2021. Because i don't hate cc's or the narratives. if i did i wouldn't be in this fandom, i woudn't write meta or engage with the content at all. and the vagueposting that i've seen is very discouraging to see at the very least especially as i've noticed how things have evolved since 2020 fandom.

I'm not sure if this is a good post, or if it adds to the discussion well. Tbh im afraid this will start discourse in itself which isnt really the point (though i tagged it that way for blacklisting...). This post is intended to help our fandom space be more cohesive to allow people the space to take narratives where they want (with nuance of course!) and for people to curate their fandom experience how they want too.

I mean as much as I love Kie and Pope, they had absolutely zero romantic chemistry together so I wont be bothered a bit if they call it off next season - I dont mind if the writers go for jiara or jjpope or choose new characters for love interests, but the fans need to be invested in a relationship, and I havent seen a single pokie stan (and we're talking about a canon ship ffs).

i think the writers hoped people would be invested in john b and sarah’s relationship but they’re just not... not to mention, the actual main characters have been overshadowed by the supporting characters — particularly jj and rafe fandom wise.

i don’t think jiara or jjpope should be made canon. aside from the fact i don’t think either of them have romantic chemistry, it will just start a huge ship war within the fandom. it’s bad as it is, but it will just accelerate things and make the fandom a place people don’t feel welcome. the fandom as a whole, and the individual ships, refused to recognise that people could and will have opposing opinions to you. they couldn’t accept that they existed in their corner, the other ship existed in another corner and the rest of the fandom existed between them. a lot of people had the mentality that it had to be one or the other and there was a list of xyz as to why it had to be their ship.

alright folks , i made this post last night about amending my carrd rules . & now , after calming somewhat down from getting sick to my stomach about it , i must now make one final update post about this to make people really & fully understand where i stand . why ? because i am , once again , having / needing to finely comb through the people i want to follow & interact with due to some very , VERY toxic behavior & terrible , childish individuals that think its real cute to stalk , harrass , steal , & gatekeep folks .

DO NOT EVER COMPARE DUPES WITH ONE ANOTHER !!! i mean it . 

i follow different childes ! and you know what i adore them both . they are both amazing ! 

sure i may have my mains / exclusives ( and im not inclined to interact with other blogs of that same character ) but i still like portrayals . i do , in fact , just READ threads sometimes . i don’t necessarily follow for interactions . like ffs man . i like variety . jesus christ .

somebody goes to amphy and says ‘omg ghost said this , and im frustrated and angry with them cause what he said was uncalled for . ’ if amphy goes ‘ omg ghost is shitty ’ and then unfollows / blocks them without any other discussion , then thats an issue cause ghost has no idea wtf happen . amphy got involved in YOUR relationship with ghost even though ghost has been nothing but kind and sweet to you . you also don’t know if amphy is just victimising or being emotional either . so why they fuck would you believe somebody who is venting to you about it and then block somebody who did literally NOTHING to you .

Dark secret; alright so here’s the thing, love love love fics when either Klaus or Caroline have a nice snug close-to-the-heart poisonously scandalous secret no one should know about, but, (yes there’s a but) if this is a secret either Klaus or Caroline are keeping from each other, and it’s the kind of secret that in a honest trusting relationship the other would know about it, because it’s important and crucial information, and yet one of them keeps the secret from the other for xyz reason, the person who was kept in the dark should please throw a MASSIVE fit about it, not silently uNdErStAnD why it’s was kept a secret, or accept that some secrets are best left secret, but like be really angry that the person wasn’t able to trust them, and be hurt about it, Am I making sense? I don’t think I am, basically what I’m saying is if KC are bluffing to each other make the truth hurt. Please Dont let the forgiveness be easy. Make my babies pay. 👉🏾👈🏾🥺

But, yes again there’s a but, (I’m so so sorry if I’m being very picky and hard to please not my intention at all, I just want to make things clearer for you, but at the end of the day you have total creative control, so like go crazy for me, I will fully appreciate it.) But back to the point at hand, I love love love angst between KC, I adore it, i mean KC canon or otherwise are not a flowery sunshine fluff couple, they’ve got problems and issues and are far too alike and way too different to even logically be together without constantly stepping on each other’s toes, I usually like angst when one of em fucks up and there’s a lot of grovelling involved, or angst due to conflict in between them, or angst due to misunderstandings, but what I do not appreciate is the abusive nature/toxicity/hurtful nature of the conflict or angst creating action forgiven easily, or not being dealt with, basically I want the closure to the angst to be reasonable to both characters, and no one is being a pushover, the Klaus and Caroline dynamic is built upon calling each other out, not taking each other’s shit and zero tolerance for each other’s toxicity, so I would very very much appreciate that to be included here.

Betrayal and revenge;

I mean ma’am you are waltzing straight up my alley and owning it like a mafia mobster, when I say angst, I usually mean conflict and what other better way to bring in conflict than betrayals and revenge. Oh the blood and the lies and the schemes, 10/10 ik I will enjoy, but I’d just like to say, that if betrayal in any way means infidelity, I will not enjoy it, fics with cheating in between Klaus and Caroline are squick for me, so please take this into consideration, and lest I sound awfully repetitive, like I said if the betrayal and revenge (conflict) is between KC don’t let them go easy on one another. And if the revenge and betrayal is not in between KC and with outside forces, just know that I appreciate it bloody.

Multiple murders;

Ok so I’m confused, are these sad murders, like good characters who are close to Klaroline dying, or douchecanoe asshats being hacked to pieces good fucking riddance murders, because like I usually don’t appreciate the former, when I say angst it means conflict (I’m really really sorry if I failed to mention that in the original assignment that was stupid of me) and not pure grief, it leans towards anger and despise and remorse and hurt more so than just grief, grief is a pretty straightforward emotion, there’s less room to play around with unlike the others I’ve mentioned, so please take this into consideration. So like if you’re killing off characters, please let it be Damon or Stefan or one of the eight hundred other dipshits in the Tvd universe, and please leave my other precious babies alone.

Smut; here’s the thing, I am constantly horny, like no shame, smut is my go to stress relief, I will ways always always ENJOY some good plot with porn, and the plot here is good, so the porn is just delicious vanilla (or not, iykwim) icing on top. So please yes. *insert audio of a person being very very agreeable during sex* please do so, I am absolutely one hundred percent behind, over and under this idea.

✼ When it comes to worldbuilding, what are some ideas you’d like to explore in rp?

I love… location-heavy RP. I love interaction where there’s an exact sense of space, where it isn’t vague or non-existent (characters interacting in the void). It is why when I create a verse, I tend to create a place or places to go with it. So I enjoy when threads take place in very specific settings (from the town/city to the very specific room), much like the elevator thread we’re writing at the moment. I enjoy having images in my mind about where characters are, and I feel like it adds a lot to threads when people use the setting (and not just when it’s immediately relevant, but just to set the atmosphere, just to add to the vibe – because it might come up useful later). So what I would love is for more use to be given to location. I want less threads in the generic coffee shop (or Starbucks), more threads happening in the character’s favorite coffee shop which is named XYZ and they love it because the seats in the right corner are extra mushy also the workers give free samples of drinks they’re trying out so people know they exist. Apply that principle to just about any common (and uncommon) RP setting.  I very much enjoy the idea of location-as-character. And I think I love the idea of threads set in very atmospheric establishments more than I should. I want a thread at a laundromat tbh. And on a different planet. And outside of the USA.

I’m not saying all threads have to be that way, but I would love to have more along those lines… and more threads in locations I (or the other person!) provides.

♥ When it comes to shipping, what factors are absolutely necessary for a ship to develop?

I need to feel like you’re into it. I need you to explicitly tell me that you’re into it. I am perfectly willing to stick out my neck and make the Big Question (haha do u wanna ship these ocs :^)) but if you do wanna ship the ocs I need to feel like you really want to… and aren’t just saying yes out of some kind of obligation. I dont need you to capslock or !!! with me but answer my questions…. and ask me questions. And let’s have a good thoughtful conversation about how to make this ship a successful reality. Or just talk about how cute they are or how cute they could be, without pressure. If you’re giving me dry messages when I’m hitting you up I’m less likely to return for more chats. But I’m the kind of shipper that when I’m really feeling a certain ship, I’ll want to rant about them. I need someone to rant with me. Don’t cut me off while I’m testing the waters.

I feel like it all amounts to interest and care tbh. It’s good to care for the ship, but it would help lots to feel like there’s interest in the character, and not just for shipping… if I feel like you care for my character, and respect the character for what they are, I’m a lot more likely to fondly give u their heart.

It has to feel like the characters can reasonably work together. It helps if they’ve had previous interactions, naturally. I would prefer this to the opposite. However, if we can have good, in-depth conversations about the characters and the realistic possibility of ships, that works and helps too.

So I kind of post a lot of my fix it fic ideas either here or in discord (I literally just posted one this morning lol) but I think in Frozer instead of Kagami telling Marinette that she never hesitates she should have said something along the lines of "If you want Adrien to notice you then be more confident in yourself" because I think that can come off as less "rude" and honestly I think that girls fighting over a boy is a tired trope. Give me girls supporting each other and building each other up. Sick of all this love dodecahedron drama. If the boys can get along, why can't the girls?

6. Is there a pairing that I used to hate that I enjoy now?

Wellllll, so initially I didn't like Ch//lo//nette at all like it made me physically uncomfortable to see, but at the time I followed a few blogs that loved Chloe and the ship and a lot of people were talking about it, and I was currently writing a Chloe redemption in Lady du Coeur where I was starting to like her more and the friendship that she and Marinette were building, so I decided to try my hand at writing it to see if I could set it up in a way that made it seem less icky to me. And I did. I wrote To Tame a Queen, and I wrote a couple other drabbles for them but then had a falling out with someone I was loose fandom friends with who loved that ship and kind of started associating that ship with that person and how they made me feel, so now I'm kind of back to square one where it makes me uncomfortable again but for a different reason. It's the reason I've never written a continuation of that story like I said I would and why I was turned off to Chloe's character for a bit. Canon didnt help much in s2 either. So I guess the short answer is no lol but you didn't come here for the short answers. ;) Most other ships that I don't like, I still don't like lol. Not much has changed on that front. That was kind of the only one.

27. Least shippable character?

Probably Gabriel Agreste. Canon lately has made me like Gabethalie, Gabenath? Nathriel? Less because one of the things I liked about the ship was that Emilie was lost and Nathalie cares about both him and Adrien and helps him move on, but then canon happened so now I don't care. I barely even ship him with his own wife tbh. Though I do think that he and Audrey deserve each other. They should just move to NY together and let Gorilla adopt Adrien. At least then he could see his friends.

Ummm, this one is tricky because a lot of the things that I have changed my opinion on are either I didn't like it and now I do or I didn't consider it and now I do or in the case mentioned above I didn't like it then I liked it and now I don't like it again.

I feel like most of the things that I can't stand about this show have to do with bad writing or the fandom, and even then I would say that "can't stand" is kind of too harsh for how I feel.

Like I love Adrien and the love square. Catch me drooling over Adrinette and Ladrien all day long, but I am a little aggravated with how he has been portrayed in canon at times namely in Glaciator and Frozer when he pouts about Ladybug. Like I can understand being upset about the person you love not liking you back, but just the whole set up both times and how he behaves like Ladybug is in the wrong for not loving him just screams entitled "nice guy" and I can't stand that for his character. Especially because it's never corrected. If Adrien is supposed to be this perfect example to young boys then that behavior should be painted as wrong because that is behavior that women are actively trying to fight in men nowadays. And for the writers to set it up as "oh boo hoo poor baby gets no love" just perpetuates that mindset that men are entitled to a women's affection if they're "nice" and that if women don't give them affection for being nice then they are in the wrong and being unfair. I do still love Adrien. I love writing him, but that's because I allow him to make mistakes and get called out and learn from them. I let him be imperfect and flawed and human. I just wish that canon would do the same.

so im beta-ing a fic for the first time and idk how to ‘help’ like i can do grammar and word flow, but like??? motivation? how does that work? i really dont want to fuck up

You’re not going to fuck up! The first thing you need to remember when it comes to being a beta for someone is that not every author and beta pair are perfect for each other! You’re going to clash with your author (even if you do work well with them!) and they’re going to clash with you. Working with an author is always going to be more difficult than it seems, and it all comes down to personality types at the end of the day. 

So don’t feel discouraged if this doesn’t work out perfectly or the way you assumed it would. That’s okay, and fairly normal. It took me a lot of trial and error to find @imnotinclinedtomaturity and now we’re a really great team

Now, on to the actual, beta’ing advice lol. 

Grammar and word flow are a really important place to start, of course. They help an author’s work look neat and put together. I don’t know about you, but most often when I’m writing, my head is faster than my fingers so there are typos and grammar mistakes and missing words galore! So definitely keep an eye out for this from your author, and try not to just assume that they don’t know the difference between there, their, and they’re. Honestly, when you’re on a roll in writing, you just don’t care which one you wrote, so long as one’s down. So yeah, be understanding of your author and that sometimes writing means saying fuck it to writing rules so you can get a thought out. 

On that note, it’s always a great idea to ask your author early on, what problems they feel they have, and ask if there’s anything you can help them with by teaching them a little bit. Sometimes an author doesn’t know what they’re doing wrong, so you have to wait until you run into it to ask them if it’s something they don’t understand, or just a general writing mistake! My big thing is always explaining the pronoun game to people - which is just when to use a Noun and when to use a Proper Noun (he/him, vs Dan). This is especially easy to mess up in a slash fiction story, as there are then too many same gender pronouns floating around).

Now, beta’ing isn’t just about grammar and word flow. It’s also about plot checking, and character checking, and general elements of a story checking. When you’re reading through someones story, do your best to make sure for them that their plot makes sense. In their head, it might be going great! They know exactly what they want to do and where the story is going to go and they think they’ve made it pretty clear! But the fact of the matter is, part of the reason authors need editors is because they’re too much in their own head. It’s super difficult to recognize if the story is coming across clearly to a reader when you already know everything. So often, I have to tell Kat things like “I have a strong feeling this is not the sentiment you meant to get across, but from a reader’s perspective I understand xyz” and then Kat will come screaming back to me in horror that it came across incorrectly. 

Of course Kat and I are super close, so we can be kind of mean to each other and still laugh it off or understand what’s going on. But in a newer beta relationship, just always make sure the author understands you aren’t calling them out or anything - you’re just trying to let them know that the way a plot point is written might be causing some misunderstandings in the reader! 

This goes for character development as well, or just general writing that’s going on. You should see Kat’s fic when I’m done editing for her. The comments seem never ending, because I comment alot. But I’m also in Kat’s head, and I know what she intends for the story, so when I see something that comes across very different than what she probably wanted, I let her know. 

Finally, motivation. The reason you came to me. That one’s the easy part. 

Leave happy and excited comments. Mixed in with your comments about how something might not be working, or your corrections of they’re, their, and there, make sure to highlight scenes you thought were amazing, or sentences that really blew you away. Comment on them like you might a fic. I spend half my time leaving “kill me” and “oh god I’m dead” and “aldkjfaldsjfs” comments to Kat because I’m completely in love with something I just read. I basically live react to her story to show her how much I love it, and how well it’s coming along. 

You can also show motivation and excitement for an author’s story when they talk to you about it. If you’re excited about a plot point they mention, TELL THEM. If they say something super cool about a character and their plans for them, let them know! If they’re worried something isn’t going to work out, help them through it until they’re feeling confident again. 

Particularly if they aren’t your friend, don’t harass them and keep asking when they’re going to keep writing. But DO encourage them if they come and talk to you about writing. Let them know you’re excited for more. When they let you know there’s more to edit, send them excited messages about how much you’re enjoying it so far, and keep letting them know they’re doing great throughout your edit. That really helps an author feel good enough to keep going, because someone is enjoying it. Getting feedback is one of the fastest ways to make an author want to keep writing, because we get so happy that we just want to keep pushing on!
