I wish I could mod Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5. I want to add a toggle for the gender not related to the voice of my character. I want Astral to be called a man while they have a feminine voice. Let my boy have his gender damn it.

if you ever want to talk about your thoughts on joyce .. Peeks over the corner of your blog. i love talking and hearing ppls thoughts on joyce sooo much even if they're different from my own!! and your analysis and stuff is always so well thought out
i hope u dont mind if i answer this publicly to take advantage of th request nd get my ideas out ther (also tyvm im happy u like my insane takes on these idiots, iv ben thinking abt them for almost 10 years)
i said a lot here so gnna 'read more' it
iv ben building trans charlie n my head fr, like i said, nearly 10 years. i used to view him as cis bcuz i always try to take as much frm th source material as i can wen i craft my HCs nd i had v personal (stupid) hangups insofar as him explicitly referring to his junk multiple times nd bottom surgery simply not being on my radar as a naive littl trans idiot deep in th sauce tht transmen oftn fall into w phallo being viewed so so poorly
evn still i leaned towards transmasc charlie nd always lovd moments tht let me imagine, for a moment, it being true, like his discomfort w taking off his shirt [hundred dollar baby, charlie kelly: king of the rats, the gang exploits the mortgage crisis, young charlie and mac deleted scenes, etc etc etc], or bonnie yelling abt ppl stealing her "charlie-girl" [the waitress is getting married] which i lovd to see as her accidentally misgendering him while drunk off her ass.
having grown out of my phallo issues (nd if ur reading this and u still view phallo super poorly, please do some research and grow too), ive in recent years fully subscribed to transmasc/nb charlie, and view his timeline something like this:
baby -> elementary: charlie refers to himself as a boy, doesnt "come out," simply has no idea he's afab. bonnie lets him dress however he wants and refers to him as asked. when charlie gets confused about his genitals, bonnie says his dick will grow in later lol, makes charlie wear a dress in public restrooms and tells him its just a game
middle: puberty hits and charlie gets confused and scared. bonnie puts him on blockers w.o explaining them ("my mom used to vaccinate me like every month" [the gang gets quarantined]) charlie goes on content and oblivious. STP acquired because hes "a late bloomer" and his dicks still not growing in?? weird. confides this in mac once, but he doesn't understand.
high: charlie finally registers that he's trans after forgetting theres a health class 1 day and not being able to skip it. throws him for a loop a bit but he becomes actively invested in his goals. he gets to start T and wants to have surgeries. "what guy hasnt done some extensive research on his own genitalia?" [mac is a serial killer]
college (aged): able to surgically transition (ty medicare) and continues on with life as we kno him now
joyce, imo, fits neatly into these views.
as a transmasc nb who came out young nd prefers to be seen as just A Guy by strangers, i grew up v vehemently against anything girly that might get me misgendered, but th more i began to 'pass,' th more @ home n my body i felt, th more and more comfortable i am w femininity, th more i wdnt mind putting on a dress, as long as th general public wd see me as "a man in women's clothes." n my mind, i prescribe something not exactly th same but v similar to charlie.
i see charlie "i dont really identify" kelly as afab and nb. i see joyce as a "character" he originally created to distance himself from the dysphoria of putting on a dress as a young trans boy, but that became part of him as the hard lines he drew in the sand as a child became blurry with age and self acceptance. charlie's comfort with himself allows joyce to evolve into a more solid persona, one he enjoys embodying and allowing to become a permanent facet of who he is. he's ok with being referred to as either. they're both him.
so maybe joyce comes out a bit more outside of the bathroom now.

// gender discourse (please ignore if you hate reading these bc ik some might be sensitive to these type of topics ;;)
"oh so are you SAYING you see trans men as non-men? that we're not cis?"
no we use that for the *specific* type of men. a different breed that makes everyone go "not all men, but sometimes it's ALL men" and these men are all always cis who think women and queer ppl are lesser than them.
same case for T3RFs. they are a different breed of women who exclude trans women and label trans men as "lost girls" and more transphobic bs they keep spitting under the guise of "f3minism". they're also exclusively cis.
we are always referring to cis people when we say those "discriminatory" things. trans and nbs being misogynists, misandrists or enbyphobic towards each other may be similar, but it's actually very different because this is happening WITHIN our community. it's a different story.
i saw a trans man himself has said that he doesn't want to disregard their transmasc/trans man experience despite wanting to pass as cis, because he said along the lines of;
queer people, especially trans and nbs, have DIFFERENT experiences exclusive to them because we're gonna experience discrimination in SOME way from (mostly) cis people.
feel free to agree or disagree, discuss in the comments on how you feel about this esp as a trans person bc this is very important and i too want to be educated.

i'm genuinely glad you call out the thing about transmasc selfshippers saying that. in /my/ experience as unaligned nb, ive seen them pull [anyone that isn't transmasc] into the group of "they're hogging all the attention and opressing us" which is,, weird when most selfshippers i know are transmasc, and INCREDIBLY frustrating to my specific struggles w/ misgendering. ik it wasnt the main topic but i wanted to talk about it since (1/2)
(2/2) it drives me to a point: when talking about "minorities", ive never heard transfems be acknowledged? much less recognized in general. ntm, not even in pride month have i seen them be celebrated. ive only seen 2 transfem selfshippers in the community, and considering that we DO have trans selfshippers,,, i feel its the transmisogyny. also as a nb i feel it speaks volumes when people boil being nb to "woman lite", or "binding" bc it excludes so many amab nonbinary. its frustrating.
YEAH like genuinely i think there are a lot of problems that carry over from other LGBT spaces to here. like biphobia and transphobia in assuming anyone who “looks female” and ships with a man is a cis straight woman, transmisogyny and just a lack of understanding concerning trans women’s experiences, imposing a SECOND binary onto nonbinary people, assuming all nonbinary people are afab and some degree of transmasc (which....Is also transmisogynistic if you think about it).
but the transmisogyny is a big one and I really feel like it isn’t something that can go undiscussed any longer. we all need to have a big conversation about seeing and welcoming trans women specifically, understanding their struggles, and NOT fucking “reclaiming” transmisogynistic slurs as transmascs like Jesus Christ please stop doing that

Hi, I'm a transmasc person struggling with internalized transandrophobia (heavy warnings for trans/NB-phobia)... I always feel invalid because I'm AFAB and my intrusive thoughts say "all AFAB trans people are cringy and not valid, they're not oppressed enough" and while I try to respect every trans people, my ex was a white radfem who hates all transmascs (or any masculinity) so I'm still feeling scared and remember them when I see white transmascs who already transition (1/?)
and look masculine already (like with a strong jawline, facial hair, etc.). Maybe it's not only my internalized transandrophobia, but also fear of my ex... and of truscum, most of whom are masc and white af. But I don't understand! These random transmasc people are my mutuals, I don't wanna fear them... or do you think I'm jealous of them? Because they look masc and I don't? I mean, I don't necessarily want to be seen as a man, but masculinity =/= manhood.
Also, I feel like transfems and AMAB trans people are more valid and real than I am/any AFAB trans people. But also... I'm not white. Being cautious with white people because of racism is okay, right? But otherwise, I'm a mess of bigotry and fear (the fear is from trauma from my ex, probably). And I don't even know how to begin to unpack this. Much less stop being like this. Anyway, thank you for listening, and I'm sorry if this is super messed up. Please take your time replying (if you do), take care.
I’m sorry you’re struggling with all of this; it sounds like a heavy weight to bear, and I hope you’re taking care of yourself as you do. Prioritize your health, give yourself breaks and positive distractions, and try to forgive yourself for honest mistakes.
Emotions and emotional responses are normal, inevitable, and can’t really be controlled. They’re just responses to stimuli. What matters is how you choose to act on those feelings, and when you make a mistake and act on them poorly, what matters then is how you choose to handle that situation.
That’s where to look when you’re evaluating these things: you have intrusive thoughts, but you also recognize that those feelings aren’t factually true. So you’re having an emotional response, and rather than accepting it as fact and acting on it, you’re stopping yourself and asking how real those things are. That’s good!
How do you want to feel about those things? Maybe you can give yourself some reminders when you notice a different response; over time, things will probably shift in that direction. It’s okay if it’s not immediate, it doesn’t mean anything about you. It matters less why those feelings are happening, and more that you know what direction to head in from there.
And as a side note: I’m white, and I can’t really speak to the question about whiteness/fear. I will say that it might be a good decision for you, in general, to seek out more trans people who are like you: white AFAB trans people don’t represent the community, and our experiences are absolutely not universal. Someone recently recommended @brownandtrans !

Conversation
The Weirdest Part, to me, is that it's often the same fans who watch both shows that say these things.
show: has a male character who is shown to be equally comfortable being called both “he” and “she”, and who is shown to be equally comfortable presenting as both very masculine and very feminine.
fandom: such trans girl, your transphobic if you call her anything other than she/a trans girl!
show: has a character that initially appears to be male, shows a flashback of this character cringing and hesitating while cutting her hair and looking uncomfortable presenting as male, this character disguised herself as male to sneak into a military program - which would require physicals, has this character say the exact words "Wait, I have something to say first. I need to come clean. I'm afraid this may change the way you all think about me. Just so there are no secrets between us anymore, I can't 'man up'. I'm a girl.", her teammates respond to this by saying they already knew, "Wait, we were supposed to think you were a boy?", and "owning who you are is going to make you a better Paladin.", her pronouns in the show change to she/her, the cast & crew use only she/her, the writers talk about how they planned to make her a girl from the very beginning and wanted to have more than one female main character
fandom: will we ever know this character's canon pronouns? no one will tell us, their canon gender is so ambiguous, beautiful transboy/nb child, so pure boy, if you call he/them 'she' you're transphobic! you have to tag 'she/her' posts about this character because it's triggering! transgirl, what's that? do those exist? down with cis
transfem fans: i highly identify with this character because her canon experiences closely match my own, please tag 'he/him' and 'they/them' posts too, they're triggering/disphoric for me
fandom: shut up! you hate nb people! transphobe! i refuse to tag 'he/him' or 'they/them' for this character, there's nothing wrong with reading characters as transmasc or nb! you have to tag 'she/her' because it's triggering!
