In the depths of despair, she has no idea who, or where she is. Dying of thirst with her ribcage almost poking through her skin, she can barely put one paw in front of the other when she’s rescued from the street. When Sandy’s people parents take her to her beautiful new home on the island, she tries to focus on her future, and return the love and kindness showered upon her. Then she meets Lola, Obie and Chip, and the traumatic flashbacks begin. As her past slowly unravels, and her memory returns, Sandy must make a choice that will determine her life and her future. What will she decide? ‘The Island Dog Squad’, an animal action and adventure novella, told by Sandy the rescue dog. (The Island Dog Squad is a series of novellas inspired by the rescue dog Deb and Allan adopted this March. The real Sandy is a sensitive soul, not quite like her fictional namesake, and the other characters are loosely based on Sandy’s real-life mates.)Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25537207-beyond-death

Author Bio:
Following thirty odd years in the British Army, Deb and her husband Allan decided to become weather refugees and settle in Cyprus.
Throughout her life Deb has dabbled with writing. Her first book was 'Reindeer Dreams' - a quirky rhyming Christmas story for children featuring Barry the reindeer and his family. Her first grown-up books about aliens and unearthly spiders could be explained as off the wall. The Afterlife trilogy came next with a few 'Jason the Penguin' books in between.
The first book in the current series 'Unlikely Soldiers', is set in 1970s Britain, with others to follow through the decades.
Deb now spends her time writing, working part-time, avoiding housework and playing tour guide along with Allan. She tries to keep the pounds off by playing netball and long-distance walking.

EXCERPT FROM THE ISLAND DOG SQUAD
Meals were an interesting time too. I generally ate biscuits but was given snacks in between my morning or evening meal, or as encouragement when they wanted me to do something new. Well, new to Ben and Ellie, but tricks seemed to come easily to me and I was very chuffed to hear them tell friends, and even strangers, how clever I was.
Their food always looked more interesting than mine. One day Ellie had a bowl with red items, covered in white liquid. I licked my lips and tried my most pathetic doe-eyed look.
‘Ah, look at her, Ben.’
I was in with a chance then.
‘Mummy’s a fruitivore, Sandy,’ said Ben, ‘and you’re a carnivore, so you won’t like strawberries.’
‘But she eats biscuits too,’ said Ellie. ‘Surely we can give her some of our food now and then?’
Hey guys, remember me? I nudged Ben’s leg, but he ignored me.
‘It’ll make her think she can come to the table and scrounge and neither of us want that.’
‘True,’ said Ellie. ‘Go lie down, Sandy.’
I sighed and went to sulk in my bed. I had nothing to complain about but, like I said earlier, their food always looked more appealing than mine. I was to discover that Ellie was also a vegivore and chocivore. Strangely enough, she was also a carnivore and so was Ben. As a special treat one weekend, I was given some roast pork, and it was heaven.
