Ka-na-ko. She was kanako in uniform, she was alice in gown; under the warm sunlight, her hair sparkled like petals, her glare sharp as spikes.

The rose, despite exposing its thorns for all to see, still could not stop curious onlookers, distracted by its overwhelming beauty, from approaching it with their bare hands, so greedy and gullible, such shamelessly possessive men -- ah, kanako, my kanako, light of my life -- so laughable as they sucked their pricked thumb wiping away tears completely dumbfounded, frightened and still blind as ever.

Sociopath Profile: Kanako Fujishima

From the beginning of the film, the eponymous character seems to be a very sympathetic figure. However, as the film goes on, Kanako is revealed to be an absolute monster without any remorse. While being the daughter of a violent and abusive ex-cop who rapes his wife may have something to do with how she turned out, even he is disgusted with her crimes.

Let me give you a taste of what those crimes are. The main one is that she manipulated several of her classmates into getting forced into a prostitution ring. She deliberately led her classmates along to have them sold off like cattle without a hint of remorse for it. She often did this through blackmail or having them drugged into it. She has even personally had people like the narrator raped and beaten. Not just having them sold off; she specifically had him raped and beaten.

But wait! There’s more! Kanako also has several people sent off to kill other people. And again, she had people drugged for it as well since the narrator isn’t the first one. And she manipulates her boyfriend Ogata into getting drugged and clearly doesn’t care when he kills himself.

Kanako admits that she has no sympathy for the weak. He has no remorse and takes no responsibility for anything she does. This girl is the guy that her abusive, rapist, violent father is one of the many people he is disgusted by. He is willing to kill other people without remorse and has sadistic tendencies, but even he can’t handle what she has done.

And the reason she does this is basically the reason that many depraved characters do things. She does it to exert dominance over weaker people and a sadistic sense of enjoyment. Basically, just because. Kanako did the horrible stuff in the film just for her own enjoyment and doesn’t even feel bad for it. When she is finally caught and is about to get stabbed to death, she only smiles darkly and admits she has no regrets.

So yeah. While she is good at appearing like a kind girl, she is the exact opposite of that.
