#THE WAR ENDED AFTER OPTIMUS AND MEGATRON DIED

AHH JUST FUCK IT—ART/LORE-ISH DUMP!!

Literally my last three recently finished(enough) pieces of 2023

Just for a recap—aka officially telling y’all what’s been up with me—

You see, along side my RBA-esque storyline will be other separate stories that kind of take place at the same time. Sort of, maybe, has a Trollhunters kinda timeline, or something? Let me just break it down into the main drafting titles(pending) I decided to give each sideplot:

- Roll Call Rescue Recruits: Some young transforming individuals attend Rescue Bots Academy, stationed on Griffin Rock and get up to some waaakcy hijinks with their new classmates while training to become Rescue Bots.

- Radiance In Disguise: A spoiled brat has to live with a rustic antique collector and his son, ever since her mother was arrested, and now her mother’s old enemies would have to go through giant alien robots if they even want to lay a finger on her.

- Reach Out To Reassemble: There’s a new Delinquent Rehabilitation Program in succession, and now it’s up to two bots to coach two young Decepticon criminals out of their violent habits; or else it’s prison for them.

None of these are in particular order by the way.

At least I think they aren’t.

Complilation of Ratchet and Optimus in the marvel comics

I know alot of people don't like how emotional Optimus is in the marvel comics (especially with Ratchet vs the rest of the autobots at the end) but just the things they do for each other here... they love each other so much it's taking over my brain

I love the earlier issues of them bickering

Spoiler warning for the marvel comics btw

Poor guy, his bf couldn't even stay alive for the first 10 issues

The size difference is insanee + Ratchet appreciation :)

Optimus faking his death to make the autobots less reliant on him so he went on a death mission and planted a fake corpse, Ratchet held a funeral for him

Optimus of course came back, but then litterally 2 issues later HE DIED FOR REAL. Poor Ratchet worked on him for 238 hours straight and diddnt go to the funeral

After he died the autobots needed a new leader, and Grimlock took over (nobody likes this)

Optimus did come back though

Although shortly after Optimus gets lured away from the ark leaving Ratchet vulnerable for capture

I love when Optimus becomes irrational when it comes to Ratchet, he just wants to protect his medic 😭

I should make a separate post talking about Megatron and Ratchet but Ratchet died killing Megatron and Optimus was so distraught he QUITS the war and retires on the moon

Kinda hypocritical of Optimus "Dies the most of any transformer" Prime but its Ratchets first death so its probably gonna hit the hardest

Optimus did come back and put Nightbeat on the job of looking for Ratchet in case he was alive

Only to find out that Ratchet got fused with Megatron in the most messed up situation I've seen in transformers canon, I've never seen optimus look so horrified

Alot of this chapter is Optimus fighting the choice to either do the thing best for the autobots or save Ratchet, in an unpopular decision he chose to save Ratchet

OK tumblr won't let me add any more photos but after they split Ratchet ends up in Megatrons hands again and he keeps him near his throne, Ratchet can't move to run away but he can still talk. Megatron asks him why hasn't Optimus come to rescue him and Ratchet holds faith that Optimus will defeat him some day. He does eventually gets rescued by the twins and Optimus.

That's all of the times I can recall where the two interact or mention the other, I think I got most of it at least, I just want them to be happy 😭

Reasons to ship every single version of MegOP

since Very Dumb Discourse™ exists about whether or not certain versions of this ship are valid, this is going to be THE most positive post about all versions of MegOP. refer back to this post for reasons to ship your favorite version of MegOP if anyone gets weird about it with you. now let us begin!!

G1: goofy '80s faction dads fighting each other in a denny's parking lot every week LET'S GOOO, that shit is fun as fuck. orion pax also totally had a celeb crush on megatron before megatron ruined that and shot him and his pals 😔 and there's a lot of angst you can add with megatron becoming galvatron and optimus coming back to life to see how much he's changed!

BW: it's the sheer fucking comedy gold factor of a newly minted college graduate and a terrorist dinosaur IMMEDIATELY singling each other out on a prehistoric rock and deciding to call their daily gang slap-fights the BEAST WARS, what iconic drama queens LMAOOOO. also, megatron made his final body in BM look like optimal optimus SPECIFICALLY to fuck with him, and that's just...incredible

UT: the fact that megatron CANONICALLY acted like a grieving widower over optimus after he died in armada is. amazing. never forget their absolutely insane obsession with each other that they can never EVER give up on played a direct part in unicron nearly ending the world <3

Bayverse: this is the one continuity of all fucking things that gave us the lore about megatron being prime's lord high protector. absolute galaxy brain writing from the tie-in comics. also these two would ABSOLUTELY have the messiest, nastiest, most brutal hate sex imaginable, and that's beautiful. <3

Animated: optimus being a rookie washout underdog and megatron being a super scary much older warlord is a really interesting and underrated fresh take on their dynamic! lots of fun to be had with exploring what their relationship would be like after megatron finally acknowledged him as his archnemesis, lol. also...age AND size difference ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Prime: do i even need to say anything, i'm pretty sure that one flashback still of orion and megatronus being friends is responsible for birthing a million shippers for this pairing alone LMAOOOO. the bitter ex-boyfriends energy was TRULY off the charts in this show, it's a damn shame megatron never appeared in RID15

Cyberverse: same bitter ex-boyfriends energy but this time with dates at maccadams. megatron also dies encouraging optimus to beat the unhinged alternate dimension megs AAHH THE ANGST

IDW1: they're both depressed gay war criminals in this one who CONSTANTLY live in each other's heads rent-free and that's amazing, lmfao. also, megatron becoming an autobot means this is one of the VERY FEW continuities where it's not nigh impossible to figure out a way to give these two a happy ending together in fanon

IDW2: space date space date SPACE DATE. they were falling together and everything. megatron also LITERALLY tells optimus to open himself to him...to give him the matrix...yeah megs my dude i'm sure that's the ONLY thing you wanted from optimus "opening" himself. toootally positive, lol

G1 Marvel: megatron was SUPER fucking pissed and weird as shit about the time optimus died over a video game. it counts

Dreamwave: their first fight had megatron urging optimus to join him AND they disappeared together in a space bridge explosion once which is like, a fanfic-esque setup for them to be alone. also i'm pretty sure this is the continuity where optimus accidentally gave megatron a lobotomy, so...uh...potential for angst is to be had

SG: mirror universe!! evil crazy villain optimus with noble goody-goody hero megatron has so much potential for absolute chaos. bonus if you also bring in the normal versions somehow through multiverse shenanigans <3

KP: the only way this version of prime can redeem himself from the creepy underage human girl bullshit is if he gets a good hard dicking from megatron. next

Prime Wars: huge "ex-husbands go on a road trip with their disgruntled daughter" energy here. megatron also LITERALLY says "oh optimus, if only you could see me now" <3

Earthspark: again...need i say why? they're pals and working together from the get-go, what's not to ship??

Skybound: optimus literally wears megatron's arm. truly beautiful <3

TF One: it's not out yet but give it time. the entire movie is going to be about orion and d-16 being madly in love and tragically breaking up, baby!!

In your babyprime!Orion AU, I wonder what the high guard would do at the end of the movie... On one hand, they do agree with the newly named Megatron. On the other hand, Megatron isn't the prime, he's the prime's best friend (possibly more, but no one in the guard is willing to open this can of worms at the moment), and that's not how the chain of command works. And the prime (the only prime, the only prime left, the grown-up child they thought they would never see again) is staying in Iacon, and if they leave he'll be all alone. He won't have anyone to tell him about his long-gone siblings and history, or to guide him through paperwork and protocols. What if someone tries to assassinate the kid and they're not here to stop it?? Idk, maybe they'd be a bit fewer Decepticons in this AU.

oh my god you hit my favorite part of this au!!! hell yeah!!! conflicted loyalties my beloved <333

in this au not only does megatron have less decepticons than in canon, he also has more than a couple mech actively hunting him down and screaming for his blood. like. the moment he shot orion it was a sealed matter for them. the conflict right after sentinel's death is less about the decepticons destroying the city and more about them turning on each other as some try to protect megatron from being fucking torn apart by the rest.

but on the other hand i can see a good amount of the high guard being... disappointed by orion. they've waited 50 cycles for him to take his place as the last prime and enact revenge for his fallen siblings, for him to lead them into a new golden era, for him him to restore them to their former glory... and he isn't what they expected. he doesn't even remember them. and it's a big blow for more than a couple of them.

they expected him to be more... affected by all of it. more thirsty for justice. more driven to revenge.

they kind of expected him to be more like d-16.

but like you said, he's still their prime. he's still their last prime. he's still the little one they had to leave behind with little more than hope and prayer that he would be safe. and for some that's enough to decide they don't really care about anything else beyond finally being able to stand at his side like they should have for all those cycles.

also the idea of the high guards that stay telling orion about his siblings and helping him through the power transition and teaching him how to be a prime because they're all that's left from that time???? yeah i'm gonna fucking sob actually OTL

that's their little prime. they already left him behind once. how could they ever do it again.

and the ones that do, the ones that turned bitter and lost their faith in a god that let his children be slaughtered, the ones who would rather follow a mech who understands that might makes right... even them pull their shots when it comes to the prime. even when at war, even when in battle, they cannot bring themselves to aim to kill the one they once would've died to keep safe from any harm.

that being said, the high guards that do become autobots become incredibly over-protective of optimus and low-key are kept from the battlefield as much as possible, because the mere sight of those they consider traitors makes them incredibly murderous. like. they're still the mechs who would've become decepticons in another universe. they simply decided they cared more for optimus than anything else in this one.

i would say most of the high guard still become decepticons, even if maybe a little more conflicted about overthrowing the primacy than in canon, but more than a few stay behind. like. 80/20 maybe.

and i'm not really sure who i would make an autobot in this au tbh? like. deep down i kind of really want soundwave to stay with optimus, because 1) he's my favorite decepticon, 2) he was already pretty down to follow optimus' lead in canon and 3) him being loyal af is an integral part of his character, so him staying loyal to the very last prime he'd sworn to protect makes sense to me. but he is the quintessential decepticon. i'm pretty sure the entire faction would fall apart without him and i do want them to have a fighting chance even without their full numbers.

i don't know enough about shockwave to properly have an opinion on him, but i do think it would be funny to have him decide it is only logical to follow his prime, because tbh he did beat most of the high guard's ass when push came to shove. like. if might makes right, then optimus has shown he has plenty of might already. also i think it'd be hilarious to have optimus be constantly stressed about keeping shockwave from casually committing war crimes every other day. like. he's an autobot but he's not in it for the morality of it all lmao

and starscream... that would also be kinda funny i'm not gonna lie but i'm not sure i see him following optimus. i think he would be part of the ones that lost their faith on primus and therefore the primacy pretty early on after sentinel's betrayal, and while he wouldn't ever try to harm orion he doesn't really think a kid should have the reins of an entire planet either. why, he would probably do a better job himself.

Sorry this is so late but I’ve got so much going on I’ve ended up going through my requests at a snails pace lol.

I haven't done transformers requests in 3-4 years so hello pls don't beat me up over this but here we go anyway:

Warnings: Character Death (Reader), Heavy Descriptions Of Gore And Violence, Themes Of Grieving And Depression

Autobots: (This is mostly Optimus-centred but I included most of the Autobots reactions because this first part was already too long to repeat for each separate character – I’ve also made it platonic)

Also PLEASE keep in mind that I’ve only seen short clips of G1, which is why I don’t write for them often, so the characters may seem a little OOC – if they are I apologise but it’s the best I could do

Ooooh boy, they’re not gonna like that

Let’s say you’re Optimus’s bestie (along with the other autobots ofc)

And let’s keep in mind that G1 Optimus is not as calm/ level headed as TFP Optimus and not as ‘death/kill/angry/rage’ as Bayverse Optimus

So he’s not gonna go round on the battle field murdering left right and centre

But he’s also not gonna just stand there

He’s more likely to turn towards the loud gunshot behind him and watch as your body hits the ground and take a moment

Like it’s not gonna click instantly

He probably thinks you’ve been shot in the leg and he waits a second for you to scream or writhe around in pain

But then your body lops to the side and he sees your eyes frozen wide in shock, with a gaping bullet hole still sizzling and steaming away in the middle of your forehead

And when I say it hits them all

It hits them

HARD

Optimus sort of just stumbles for a moment cuz he can feel every part of himself short-circuit

He also thought his audio receptors had stopped working

But no

It’s the battlefield

It’s dead silent

Everyone seems to have just stopped

He can’t see (cuz he literally cannot take his eyes off your body) but Prowl and Ratchet are nearest

And they’re desperate to run to him but the fact that he’s so still

Ratchet doesn’t dare go near you for a hot minute because it’s not normal for Optimus to be still for that long.

Prowl’s too busy trying to see who shot you, and eventually he spies the steaming barrel of the gun from across the field and he’s instantly seeing red

The decepticon that owns said gun doesn’t look any better

You can practically hear him from how much he’s shaking

Eventually, the dead silence is broken

“What did you do?”

It’s Megatron

He might be Optimus’s sworn enemy

But he knows when to not cross a line

As in murder Optimus’s closest friend

Megatron only murmured it since he was only frozen in place a few metres away

But it was loud enough to break whatever spell Optimus was under

Both decepticons watched in terror as Optimus’s head snapped towards them, his optics wide and glowing brighter than ever

And you know what’s even worse?

His face guard is gone

Sheathed away and full face on display

Now, let’s clarify that you, are the only person in the existence of ever, to know what he looks like under the mask

And the fact that everyone can see his full face right now shows exactly how out of control his emotions are right now

He’s heaving, he’s shaking, and there’s coolant streaming down his face because guess what cybertronians can cry

In his millions of years fighting wars, Megatron can’t recall a time he’s ever seen such despair on a bots face

Let alone on Optimus

The sounding of creaking metal brings everyone’s attention back on Optimus

And it takes a moment for everyone to realise where the noise is coming from but soon enough they watch as his servo tightens even more around his axe, the creaking noise becoming louder

And all of a sudden everyone’s like:

Oh shit

The decepticon that shot you is like

Shit shit shit shit

And Megatron accepts he’s gonna be a Con down after today because looking at the state that Prime is in he knows it’s not worth it

He looks to the Con who is pleading for help with his eyes and just shrugs

“I think you’re on your own now :)”

Megatron along with everyone else takes a step back as Optimus begins to move

He’s not running, no

Just walking

His optics not moving from the con in front of him as he strides over.

Eventually the con drops his gun with a cry and frantically runs into the woods behind him

But Optimus keeps his speed at walking pace

Which is even more terrifying

Megatron just moves aside raising his hands in surrender as he passes

Because a heaving, blank-faced, mask-less Optimus unconsciously dragging a weapon behind him is not something he wants to try and pester right now

Soon Optimus disappears into the woods after the Con

And everyone remains silent and unmoving as they listen

Pedesteps every now and again are heard from within the trees

Minutes pass and no one is yet to move, too occupied with straining their audials for a noise

Though it isn’t long until everyone flinches as a terrified shriek rips through the air, causing the birds to scatter

A string of frantic pleads of help follow

Until they are replaced with screams as loud clangs of metal on metal are heard

But soon the screams are drowned out by the clangs and soon enough the sounds of the Con are no more

But the clanging doesn’t stop

It just keeps going in a steady rhythm

Until one final loud smash reverberates through the air

And it is silent once again

Everyone else takes this as their cue

Megatron instantly transforms and takes off

And it isn’t long before the rest of the Decepticons follow, leaving the Autobots to themselves

The following silence is soon broken as Ratchet finally moves towards your body

Wiping the coolant that won’t seem to stop streaming down his face, he kneels down to scoop your lifeless form into his arms

Prowl drags himself over to you both, his pedes never feeling so heavy

With a dark solemn look on his faceplates, he stares at your corpse in the medics arms

After a moment, he slowly lifts his servo towards your face, where your face is still frozen in a terrified expression

And as gently as he can, he takes two digits and places them above your optic lids before sliding them closed

That seemed to be a tipping point for Ratchet as he broke down in heaving sobs

His frame trembling as he tried to keeps both himself and you balanced as everyone around looked at him in both surprise and pity

This is a first because Ratchet is probably the least likely to react so emotionally to death

He been witnessing it almost every day for the past few million years after all

But you were someone special

Someone he thought would be the last person to die so suddenly

Someone he thought he would have time to save, and time to grieve

But that’s what war does

It has no mercy with anyone

No matter who someone is and how special they are

And Ratchet thought he had come to terms with that idea

But the scene he gave showed everyone he hadn’t quite accepted it fully

Prowl wanted to break down too

He wanted to scream into the heavens and beyond, cursing out those who took you from them but also hoping you could hear him

A sign to show that you were still here with them

But he knew it would prove useless

And with Ratchet gone too far into his own mind

He knew it was his turn to be the level headed one

Now wasn’t the time to flip tables and punch walls

He didn’t want to show his emotional instability in front of the others

So he joined Ratchet by his side, a servo slowly soothing up and down the medic’s trembling back struts.

He noted that Optimus still hadn’t returned from the woods

But that wasn’t who he was concerned about at the moment

As if on cue, three sets of bouncing footsteps along with energised voices were heard as they got nearer

Everyone tensed at the sound, and slowly turned towards the outstretch of cliff nearby where the voices owners would soon be revealed

Prowl left Ratchet’s side after one last reassuring pat, leaving the now slightly calmer bot to cradle you

Turning the corner, he was met with two bright sets of yellow and one red

Bumblebee, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker had returned from their reconnaissance, playing and shoving at each other joyously after a seemingly successful mission, ready to hear what had become of the fight they missed

Though that all halted when they caught sight of a silent Prowl who was suspiciously not scolding them for returning so late

Coming to a stop, they eyed him, Sideswipe talking first:

“We just saw Megatron and his goons flying away! Did you flip enough tables to scare them off or something?”

That set the three of them into another fit of giggles

But coming to a stop again at the sight of Prowls door wings not springing up in frustration like they usually do

“Say Prowl, what’s got your tailpipe in a twist?” Sunstreaker piped up

Prowl opened his mouth, and got exactly one vowel out before going silent again. He did this several times before eventually giving up.

Ok this was different

Prowl always has something to reply with

“What happened.” Demanded Bumblebee

Despite being a joyous bot, Bumblebee knew when it was time to be serious, and Prowl being lost for words meant that only the worst could have happened

Prowl tried to reply again, but his voice box betrayed him for a second time

Without a second thought Bumblebee strode ahead, brushing aside Prowls outstretched servo and rounded the corner

At a first glance all he could see was every bot crowded around something, but when he called out they all parted to reveal something he wished he could never see

A pained cry of despair echoed throughout the forested valley, and Sideswipe and Sunstreaker didn’t hesitate for a second as they sprinted around the corner to their friend with Prowl hot on their heels

The sight before them was the one thing they never wanted

Bumblebee was being held back as he tried to reach for whatever Ratchet had in his arms, howling and crying out as he stretched his arm as far as he could

The two bots rushed to try and help the others in restraining him, but both stumbled in shock as they caught sight of your lifeless corpse

Soon the bots had to be divided as they wrestled the three young bots that were wailing in anguish for their friend

Bumblebee had given up at this point, his head on Prowls shoulder as he stared at you with a glazed unmoving expression

The twins were worse off, crying and screaming in everyone’s faces until their voice boxes gave out, demanding what had happened and why they weren’t able to save you, why Ratchet wasn’t able to save you, but all the bots and the medic could do was look down to not make any further eye contact.

Not long after the screaming match another set of footsteps were heard getting nearer, and a hush fell over everyone, including the twins after pleas from the others, as they all stared at the silhouette emerging from the foliage

As the bot moved into the sunlight, everyone’s optics widened at the sight

Optimus had returned, but he was barely recognisable

Well

You could still tell it was him

But his paintjob was almost unidentifiable

Blue and red peeked through the streaks and smears of pink and magenta, the energon from the unlucky con splattered all over his frame

The worst parts were on his axe and up his arms, his paintjob covered almost entirely with energon still dripping from those areas along with chunks of metal that slowly slid down his frame, looking suspiciously similar to the con’s paintjob

The most horrifying part, though, was his axe

Which looked like it had come straight out of a horror movie

Through the energon and bits of metal that covered the blades, one half seemed to have bent, the blade curving in a way that would fit a cybertronians head shape after hitting it with the force of a mountain

Which is probably what happened

It’s also probably what made that extra load bang at the end

But no one really cared about that

They were too busy trying to figure out what Optimus would do next

Which was a bit difficult considering he was just standing there not saying a word and just staring ahead into the distance

A beat passed before shuffling was heard and Bumblebee broke away from Prowls embrace and rushed towards the Prime

Despite everyone wanting to stop him, they were too scared of going near Optimus at this point

Reaching Optimus, Bumblebee threw himself around him, not caring about the height difference

This seemed to bring Prime out of his trance, half lidded optics looking down at the smaller bot

Though it wasn’t long before Optimus gently pried Bumblebee’s servos away, holding them in his own

The bots watched albeit tense as the taller bot stared down at his smaller companion

All it took was for Bee to look up whilst blinking back tears of coolant for Optimus to drop his axe with a clang and scoop him into his arms, their helms buried into each other’s neck cables, and Bumblebee’s sobbing started up again

After a minute, they pulled away from each other, and Bee tried to say something through the hiccupping of his voice box, but the Prime stopped him with a servo on his shoulder and a small smile that was far from reaching his optics

Which everyone could see since he had yet to re-engage his mask

But they made sure not to bring it up

Soon Optimus was back on his pedes and picking up his axe, gently leading Bumblebee back to the group

Reaching Ratchet, he placed a servo on his shoulder

“Let’s get them back to the ship old friend."

Decepticons: (This one’s a bit shorter I’m afraid – I struggled with coming up with anything for anyone else so this is more headcanon-y)

Warnings: Character Death (AKA YOU), Heavy Descriptions of Gore, Themes of Grieving and Depression.

Now with the decepticons it can be a little different

Depending on what kind of relationship you’ve formed and with who

The Autobots are all tight knit in some way

Whereas with the cons

You could’ve been working with them for eons

But if you’re just another soldier that has been recruited

Then those higher up aren’t gonna bat an optic

They might notice your posts being replaced

But that’s it

However

If you’re higher ranking and have formed some type of relationship with them

Then things are going to go down differently

Soundwave would be inconsolable for a while

The only ones allowed near him were his minicons

Who would scuttle out his berthroom to grab some energon for their robodad, before quickly disappearing back into the dark room

He wouldn’t come out until Megatron demanded entry

And the minocons along with a few others would wait around the corner in the corridor

Tying to get within earshot but failing nonetheless

Megatron then walked out, not bothering with the troops who scattered as soon as he appeared

It would be another day before Soundwave would emerge

But he wouldn’t answer anyone about how he was

He simply got on with his tasks as he did before

Overworking so much that he would have to be dragged to recharge

Life would resume as normal

But during his weekly spying sessions through the security cameras

Starscream would note the pauses the quiet con would take

Each time in the exact same spot

Standing in front of the doors to the comms room where you had worked

Staring in as if he was looking for you to spring out on him

But you never did

Speaking of Starscream

It’s a bit of a 50/50 with him

You could be any rank

And considering how desperate he is to overthrow Megatron and lead the Decepticons

There’s a chance that he could be so obsessed and caught up in his scheming

That he just doesn’t have the spare time to get to know you or basically care about you in any way

But if we went with the other half

And you were someone he had befriended and roped into his overthrowing plans

Then your death would throw him off track big time

It would take him forever to comprehend the fact that the one con he could trust properly on his ship was in pieces that were now drifting somewhere through space

To the other cons he was just being himself after your death

So just annoying

Complaining how he now had to figure out how to achieve the tasks he had set you for universal dominance as well as his own

But the heaving sobs and wails that echoed through the ships corridors late at night said otherwise

Ravage made the unlucky mistake of walking in on Starscream as he curled up underneath his desk

Though not much time was spent inside as Ravage high tailed it out of there, narrowly dodging something being thrown as the seeker screamed for them to get out

Skywarp and Thundercracker had a hard time as well

Feeling the immense grief flowing through the bond of their trine mate’s spark as they watched him brush you off as just another accomplice in front of everyone else

Now

Onto boss man

Megatron would practically explode

He would be throwing himself into every battle and every autobot he can get his servos on

The one commander, apart from soundwave, he could trust with his life

Gone

In a puff of smoke

Well..

More like an explosion

tfp au maybe. had this bouncing around in my brain for years.

so imagine it’s just the show normally. first few episodes introduce the characters, setting and all of that. it’s lighthearted, silly, cute. all of that. then at the end of the 4th episode optimus dies. i’m not sure by who’s hand. maybe a vehicon, something underwhelming. the great prime, taken down by an unnamed decepticon.

after this ratchet looses his shit. he unofficially takes over, even though there are bots maybe more well equipped for the task. but he’s seen so much war, and he’s the oldest, so he starts giving orders. he wastes no time in making very drastic decisions, one optimus would never make. he’s out for blood, and he wants this war to end. it’s taken so much from them all, and it needs to stop by any means necessary. so he’s pulling no punches. an added variable is that with optimus gone, that’s one less mouth to feed. and he was a big bot, so that adds quite a bit of energon to their rations. still not enough, but more. specifically for ratchet, who was previously starving himself for the ‘teams benefit’. so he’s got a clearer head and generally more strength, although he is still being fueled primarily by anger.

eventually, though, probably mid season, ultra magnus comes in. he, being a higher rank than ratchet takes over as the commander. he gives orders very similarly to optimus, and ratchet sees him basically undoing all of the progress they made while he was in charge. so he attempts to rally the rest of the team behind magnus’ back. some agree, some don’t. (arcee agrees and so does bulkhead, although tentatively. he just wants the war to be over, and while being beneath ratchet is reminding him a little too much of the wreckers he believes that this must be done. arcee has just lost too many to the decepticons, and she wants them all dead.)

on the decepticons side, megatron is destroyed by optimus’ death. they’d been fighting for so long, and he’d always talked about his death. he always said he wanted to kill him, but.. prime was invincible. he never really thought he’d die— he never actually considered it a possibility. he had never thought this far, and now his operation is in shambles. he doesn’t know what to do. that is, other than execute the vehicon that killed him. this plants seeds of uncertainty within the lower decepticon ranks because all of them were sure that optimus’ killer would get high praise, or even a promotion. instead they were publicly executed. to them it was a sign of weakness, of uncertainty. almost sympathy towards the autobots, which makes them doubt their ‘great leader’ more than they already were with their dwindling ranks and his. purple energon nonsense.

i’m not sure how i’d like it to end. not yet. im thinking of writing a full fic of this.. idk though

What do you mean when you said in your secondBee fic that DeceiptiBee ends more like Transformers: Prime or Cyberverse? Does this mean Cliffjumper dies (he pretty much does in almost all TF series like Bumblebee, IDW, and Prime) , much to Bee's grief, and when Megatron self banishes after being free from Unicron's control Bee also decides to go with him despite his and Optimus protests as he also carries some guilt (towards his friends, both deception and autobot and also his brother), or after he either Megatron self banishes or dies does Bee takes charge/care of the (former) Deceptions in his honor in an attempt to end the senseless war and fight for their true cause they once lost sight of: freedom? That could be an interesting challenge as like in IDW he realized the difference between being liked and being respected. I imagined that after Soundwave sacrificed he could adopt the cassettes.

In tfp do you think the vehicon play games when other bots are looking? Like soundwave is off on a mission so some vehicons decided were just gonna play 20 questions. I feel like it would be a little funny.

I bet they absolutely do.

The Vehicons have to keep all their games on the down low to avoid Starscream or some other Commander stopping them. So most of their games are either easy to hide, or require no tools at all. There are a few rather popular games amongst the Vehicons that are their preferred choice of pass time when they can't leave their posts but still have nothing much to do.

Obviously, the most common game is cards. But of course, it is not as simple as one might think. A Vehicon needs to be worthy to play the game, and they way they do this is by trading for the cards that one uses to begin with. Every card is specially crafted, each modeled after a notable wartime character, Autobot or Decepticon. In order for a card to be produced, a piece of the character in question must be gathered and quite literally put into the card. Usually this means having to grab a piece of shed plating before anyone notices. As such, cards have increadible rarity and the strength of each card is determined by how many are in circulation, whether or not the character is dead, and the edition of the card.

It is honestly less about the game and more about the collecting and production process. Sure, the Vehicons will actually play the card game using real life stats around each character, but more often it is a trading match. Three Starscreams for one Whirl. No one has seen Blaster since Cybertron went dark, so his card is worth four Bumblebees. Eight Optimi for two first edition Orion Pax cards (an ultra rare collectable considering most of Orion Pax's plating fell off LONG ago.) Four Megatrons for two Megatronus cards, and two Megatronus cards for one D-16 (Soundwave has the only known D-16 copy and no one is willing to take it from him.)

The cards are highly valued and often taken excellent care of. Only some Vehicons are certified to make more via the general agreement of the troops. The most sought after cards are by far the:

Party Ambulance Ratchet: Only three are known to exist and Pharma absolutely has one and Optimus may or may not have the other. It is unconfirmed. There are rumors the remaining one is floating around in a different Vehicon battalion, so the Vehicons have no yet lost hope for it.

Gladiator Soundwave: There are two known copies of this card, and many believe Soundwave claimed both. ST3V3 swears up and down that Megatron has one, but few are willing to go ask the warlord to confirm.

Rumble & Frenzy: A duo card that has long since gone out of production in light of the minicons deaths. There are perhaps fifty somewhere in the galaxy and only one Vehicon on the Nemesis has a copy. He keeps it in perfect condition.

End Your Life Tarn: One very VERY unfortunate Vehicon managed to get enough off Tarn to create a singular legendary card. Myths say that it may still exist somewhere in the ether, in Tarn's personal collection, or somewhere else in the universe.

Senator Proteus: Why does it exist? No one is entirely sure since he died early into the war. But a Vehicon has a copy of the card and it is said that six others may still be around. No one cares much for Proteus, but his card is rare and thus valuable considering the mech has been dead for millennia.

Hello! What headcanons would you have for a bot that has the power to create energon after a freak lab accident back on Cybertron? They were also a mutual friend of Optimus and Megatron well before the war, and was thought to have died after they were abducted and went missing just before it took off.

Forward to the present, a ship crashes into Earth and it gives off a huge energon signal, prompting both sides to investigate the site further. That's when they find a stasis pod encased in energon, and inside is the missing bot, still alive and in deep sleep. When rescued, the bot has no idea a war ever took place, and wonders why their old friends look so tired all of a sudden. They turn down the Autobot or Decepticon badge when presented with it, as they feel those need to be earned.

As a bonus, their presence always has a calming effect to those around them. The others find themselves feeling at ease if even for a moment. If around Megatron, he isn't as angry as usual. If around Optimus, he feels more assured things will be okay. Interactions with Megatron and Optimus are strictly platonic.

He explains all that has happened over the years you were absent, starting from the very day you went missing, to the destruction of their home planet, to where they are now on Earth. It's quite a lot to cover within the day, but he promises to answer any of your other questions to the best of his ability.

Afterward, he asks about where you had gone, and he explains that the authorities had investigated your disappearance, only to find no remains and ultimately conclude that you were dead. If it's still a sensitive topic for you, he won't push you to share or explain anything you don't want to, he's content enough with knowing that you were alive in the end.

He won't force you to choose a side, neither will he force you to stay at the base if you wish to go your own way, but he'll advise you that it will be difficult to survive on a foreign planet. The energon is scarce, the technology is primitive, and though the Autobots are fortunate that the U.S. Government is allowing them to stay, the leaders of other nations may not be so kind as to allow you within their borders if they discover your existence. Additionally, given that Megatron shares no resemblence to the Megatron you knew all those years ago, and your abilities would give the decepticons an incentive to seek you out for their own gain, it would be far safer for you to remain within the base rather than being on your own.

Yet even if you refuse, he won't force you to something you do not wish for yourself, and he'll grant you access to the base's private commlink line, in the event that you need any sort of assistance, and to keep in touch.

Megatron

He'll escort you back to the Nemesis and explain everything that has happened from his skewed point of view. Optimus Prime has changed over the years of warfare and he is no longer the archivist you once knew, Cybertron is now a wasteland and a husk of what it once was, and now both the Autobots and Decepticons have been stranded on earth.

He tries to insist that there's no need for you to earn the Decepticon badge! After all, when he was first realizing the cause, you were one of the first people he was thinking of recruiting into the Decepticons. Your ideals and aspirations align perfectly with the cause, not only that but you would be an invaluable asset for the Decepticons. So truly, being a Decepticon would be a perfect fit for you.

Even if you decline, he still offers you a habsuite aboard the Nemesis. He'll say that Earth is a hell for any cybertronian to live on, and the Decepticons are fortunate to have what little resources they have. In addition to the lack of resources, they must keep themselves concealed from the natives of the Earth! Why? He explains that they're a very young, primitive, and fragile species, they aren't ready to witness the cybertronian race. So truly, staying aboard the nemesis would be in your best interest.

The other bots aboard the Nemesis begin to notice the affect you have on him and everyone else, and regardless of whether he issues orders to make you feel welcomed, they're going to persuade you to stay (mostly for your ability though).

It probably won't take you long to realize that all of these friendly gestures are not due to your past friendship, but rather that having you on his side will grant him an unparalleled advantage over the Autobots. The Megatron you once knew has long since died over the thousands of years of war and slaughter. But on the other hand, as a familiar face and your former friend, perhaps you were blind to his true nature and his sly words swayed you. But either way, you sealed your fate the moment you joined him back to the Nemesis. He's going to make you work for the Decepticons, even if it takes a little forceful persuasion to make you cooperate.

Can you perhaps do Optimus x Cybertronian reader where reader is already stayed on earth far longer than Optimus? They're not an autobot nor a decepticon, they don't side with anyone. They just want to enjoy earth in peace without thinking about war. Heck, they maybe don't give a shit about who's good and who's bad, they just don't care about anything besides themselves.

And maybe they met Optimus before he became Optimus prime, when he's still Orion pax. And they have a little reunion as an old friend.

They met Optimus during his time as Orion Pax working in the Iacon hall of records, they were assigned to keep him in check along with Jazz. Sometimes they indulged him by having debates regarding equal freedom for all cybertronians and the current state of the gladiators of Kaon.

With time they found a friend in each other and Orion Pax trusted that they were going to aid with his plan of meeting the gladiator Megatronus.

“Orion, I don’t think we should to Kaon just to meet this Megatronus” they warned him “all we really know about him is that he is the top gladiators over there and not to mention that Kaon is not the safest place to visit.”

“We need him if we want to help the people from Cybertron.”

Orion was set of meeting his future ally. Megatronus became an important member of their group- a brother- Orion and him were usually planning on how to change the system while they just accompanied them during the long solar cycles.

It was until Megatronus started changing, he become more hostile towards them and Orion, he was set of taking over the government no matter what and after the incident at the High Council he left them. Like they meant nothing to him.

They continued to support Orion but with each casualty they distanced themself from his cause, they did want this war or choosing sides.

So, when Orion became Optimus Prime, he put all his focus on trying to reason with Megatron and his decepticons even if it ended in a fight.

That is why they was never really a member of the Autobots, they considered themself more of a neutral bot even when Optimus keep trying to convince them to join his team.

It was not until another fight between the two groups broke out, one of the worst battles they had to endure. They had watched their comrades fall one by one, many of their closest friends dying on the battlefield, but for them time stopped when they were to witness Jazz taking his last glance at them before being offlined by a decepticon. It broke them, Jazz dying broke them, and they did not know what to do.

They could not save him, and it was all in their head now, they started having corrupted thoughts and blamed Optimus for this. Jazz and every autobot was fight under his leadership so why did he let them down.

They wanted to end it all and leaving Cybertron was their only option, they need to get away.

“This is it Optimus, I can’t keep fighting anymore” they said while preparing their spaceship for their departure. “I don’t want to be part of this war.”

“You can’t give up now, what about our goal” he tried to reason.

“Your dream, Prime, not mine” they said looking at him. “You have to change people first before changing the system and right now everyone is so ready to kill each other.”

“Where will you go?”

“I don’t know but I will be fine so don’t look for me” they reassured him. “Until we meet again, Optimus Prime” they extended their servo.

They landed on planet earth without any plan of how to survive among organics, but they managed.

They got their vehicle form from and abandoned Pontiac solstice they found and starter their travels around earth. They visited many places and dedicated their time to discover organic life form that they never thought existed, their personal favorite being the mountain lions which is why they found themselves driving around the desert of Jasper-Nevada.

They have been following a mountain lion for a few hours because they wanted to pet it, and they almost did it if it was not for a big cybertronian starlight them both.

“It seems like you need to work on being aware of your surroundings, my old friend.”

“That’s what living in peace does to a bot, Optimus” they turned around annoyed. “You scared my new pet.”

“So, this is the planet you decided escape to.”

“Well, not what I had in mind, but I love it here, I found the peace I needed after everything” they did not want to remember their last time at Cybertron, it was still a sore spot for them.

“I glad you are ok” he said as the ground bridge opened behind him.

“It seems I am needed somewhere else, but you are always welcome at our base” he finished by patting their shoulder before going into the portal.

Maybe is they will visit the Autobots, maybe what they needs is to have a proper reunion with Optimus just like during the old simple days of laughing around Iacon hall of records.

let me talk about bayverse optimus because i’m always thinking about bayverse optimus.

he is. just. so done. after millennia of fighting and losing so much, it’s this dirtball planet of squishy and entitled humans that does him in. he has prevailed through SO much and these stupid motherfucking organics are the thing that CRUSHES him.

he’s all good in movie one. like, he finds this planet of ‘young’ life and, in their grand scheme of things, they’re innocent - they don’t know any better. yes, they kidnap bee, but like he says - were they so different? and sam, this young organic, the future of his species, he’s - well, he’s odd but he’s kind. to bee. to them. he tries to help them - he advocated for them to the rest of the humans. he trusted them. he was good. lennox, epps, his team, they’re ready to lay down their lives to protect their species - they almost lay down their lives for the transformers.

then the second movie, right? the time between the movies seems to have gone well. this planet who is so afraid of them, so fearful of their weaponry and their war, they allow them safe harbour. they accept more of their stragglers, their friends, and they work together to take down decepticons. it’s good. a mutually exclusive partnership.

then his human friend, the one ho had filled him with so much faith in humanity, he goes ‘nuh uh’ and refuses to help them again. and he goes about it all respectfully- he doesn’t force sam into anything, but he warns him he’s in like, imminent danger and sam sticks his head in the sand.

brother knows what’s about to happen. he sees it coming, he warns the people, he puts up with the government’s bullshit ‘whAt iF tHeYre aFtEr yOu’ with near endless patience.

then the exact thing he warned this small, teenage human about comes to pass. to a t. he gets kidnapped by megatron, he's going to die. but optimus foresaw it. he countered it. he and his autobots fought back -

because sam is innocent. sam just tried to help them, sam saved his life. he saved his life and the autobots then just wanted to live a normal life, free of war. was that so hard to understand?

no. but this little kid ignored his warning, got himself kidnapped, and as a result of that, he gets killed. brother literally dies for this small human who ignored all his warnings and pleading. and he stays dead. for... a decent while.

but then this kid. this kid, man, he goes to the ends of the earth to save him. yes, his planet is at stake, but sam wants to save optimus. he's person-focused, he goes about the entire movie trying to save optimus, focusing in getting him back, not the rest of his species.

sam, who ignored his warning, spent the entire duration of his 'death' struggling to save him. not losing faith in him. sam, this small, young organic, earns the matrix of leadership. he earns it. and he brings optimus back. and, okay, maybe its jarring going from one war zone to another, but - well, it’s the matrix of leadership. it has been lost for eons and this human earns it.

perhaps, that is faith enough.

then the 3rd movie happens. and optimus most certainly loses his shit. on an astronomical, war-crime kinda way he is so fucking done. because these human politics are… they’re so fucking stupid. these humans, who he has trusted the last several years with his life, have betrayed their promise to eachother and lied to him. then they continue antagonising him the entire time. particularly that bitch of a secretary woman oh my god she grids my gears and she definitely grinds optimus’ gears too.

but optimus still has respect. he’s furious with the humans, but he takes one look at buzz - a fellow star-traveller - and he can still have respect. things go up; he gets his mentor back and now there’s two primes. perhaps, it’s not all so bad?

optimus and megatron were brothers once. their friendship ran deep, that’s obvious. when sentinel fucking murders ironhide in the most cruel and cold-hearted way, optimus. he’s so done.

the people closest to him die or betray him. these humans who he’s become close with decide they need to be rid of the autobots, his family, to protect the earth. which is very much a stupid idea to literally everyone because the decepticons are still around? like hello?

optimus can overlook lots of humanities errors as a part of their species being so young. but that move? that was just. so incredibly braindead. but you know what? you know what?

optimus still rises above that. he and the autobots forge a plan to save the earth still.

… a plan that also lets optimus get his revenge and let out some of that pent up anger because oh my GOD does he need to punch something. and punch something he does! the way in which optimus fights in the battle of chicago, as well as many of the other autobots, is borderline feral. they give zero flying fucks about how they go about it, they just want bodies. blood for blood.

just look at how bee kills soundwave. how optimus kills shockwave. how the wreckers kill- well, anyone, really.

optimus is done playing nice. he is done extending his hand for peace and he wants blood. just look at his duel with sentinel and megatron.

and movie 4? oh dear. coming off the betrayal of his mentor, the death of one of his closest friends, and the humans deciding they don’t want transformers at all? being forced into hiding? optimus loses one of the things that he’s clung to thus far. he’s lost hope. there’s no longer an ‘enemy’ around for him to swear revenge on, it’s the humans targeting him now. not the decepticons. the humans, who he has lost so much to save.

he died for them. and now, they want his body once more.

when he finds out they’ve already killed a shit load of his friends? out the window. all of it. noble prime gone, borderline shattered glass prime is in the driver’s seat and, once more, he wants blood. not decepticon blood - no. this time, he wants a human head.

no more is his oath to protect humanity. they have forsaken him and everything he stood for, everything he thought they stood for, and he wants his revenge before he wants out.

it was only a matter of time.

So after the last batch of Cyberverse sketches, I tried to do more here with Cyberverse Megatron specifically, since he kind of stuck himself in my brain, at least yesterday

Admittedly I wish I drew more, but by that last corner I just wasn’t sure what to draw. I actually did draw something, yet again trying to draw that one kissing meme thing with him and Optimus, but yet again it didn’t turn out right looking, so you don’t see it

But other than that, while I’m aware my drawings aren’t the best, I do think I’m at least getting the hang of drawing this version of Megatron. I’m aware his face is still off looking, but oh well

My only real thoughts for what to draw with him were “more of body”, “him thinking “oh no that’s hot” at something Optimus is doing”, “season 3 Megs” and “he drink coffee”. And also to attempt lineless

Note on that last thing, at least on the head, it’s not as difficult as I’d thought it’d be. I could probably do it, if I at least knew what I wanted to draw

I don’t really have much to say on the drawings themselves though? There isn’t much going on that I haven’t already said. All I can say is I tried to use screenshots for references more than usual, since I thought it’d help. I did stop at some point, but still

I don’t know how I feel about Cyberverse Megatron. I think he’s really only in my head because I was searching for Cyberverse megop fanfics after finishing the show

But also, he’s sort of your typical Megatron. An asshole, and usually the cause of alliances falling short and me saying “Megatron, you bitch”. Granted he’s not as evil as other Megatrons, at least most of the time, considering he was willing to destroy the AllSpark that one time, but it’s probably also because the Autobots and Decepticons have to team up so often in Seasons 2 and 3

But then there’s Season 3b Megatron, in which he has some adventure across the multiverse and comes back to help his universe, armed with his own Matrix and actually willing to save the day and have peace with Optimus and end the war, even if the planet is split in two. And at least in his initial appearance, he seems like he’s actually become at least a slightly better person

Like on one hand, I like this idea of him becoming better on his own time, and also we can just accept that maybe he’s become actually better since we don’t know what he was up to to cause this. But in the other, I really would have liked to see what he was up to. I guess they didn’t have enough time to show us

But yeah in 3b, he’s still an ass but he isn’t causing too much trouble, and is instead preparing for a worse threat to come, and then dies not as a villain, though he got taken out too quick to be called a hero in this scenario. Kind of disappointed he didn’t really get to do anything when the other Megatron showed up, would have been nice to see

But also I’m told that’s actually what kills him? He actually dies? I guess it is a more powerful version of him, but considering the other things other Megatrons have survived, and also we never really saw him die in the episode itself, considering he made noises of pain after being attacked and we just didn’t see him again after Bee took his Matrix, it feels kind of weak to me

I don’t know, his concepts in 3b are interesting to me

Also random side note, while I wasn’t expecting it, I appreciate his fusion cannon and mace having red lights instead of purple. I’m used to the purple but the red is consistent with the rest of his colors

Also there’s the subject of Cyberverse megop. It doesn’t have TFA’s issue of being strangers, in fact they seem to have known each other for a very long time and there’s no Elita or anything in this universe to be another past option for Optimus. And Megatron does do some bad things in this series, some worse than others, but also it seems like the characters of this show aren’t the most serious about this war, at least not like they are in Prime or something. Apparently every few millennia or so Optimus and Megatron try to have peace talks and negotiate, only for it to inevitably fall apart and things to start up again, and everyone’s just used to this

I think I can ship it, they have divorced energy and both sides are just used to it, including each other. They are in essence, the core values of typical megop I think, except they were actually on decent terms by the end of things, when Megatron dies. Sad that, why’d he have to die? At least make it heroic or something so he can go out with a bang

Some SG! TFOne Ideas

Now that I'm done with "Did I Ever Really Know You?" and I am still currently watching Transformers: Animated for another fanfic, I'll just be listing down some of my Shattered Glass AU ideas (to also help me cause otherwise there is a chance I will forget or swap concepts by accident lmao).

SG!Megatron (or D-16 cause he's not yet Megatron) being a medic/scientist for the High Guard/Decepticons at first since he has no reason to usurp Starscream. Also he is either Shockwave's apprentice or he's genuinely just winging it because no one in the High Guard is a scientist and he has to step up with only his own intelligence to help him lmao

SG!Megatron also has wings since his alt is a Cybertronian jet instead of a tank (this is based off of the canon SG where his alt is the jet and the tank). He eventually does get the tank alt when he becomes the official leader of the High Guard/Decepticons. For the meantime though, he only has one alt - and his cannons are attached to his wings instead of his arm.

SG!OP is ruling Iacon as the sole Prime. He is currently on the path of historical revisionism. Like, he's changing the records to make it so that Sentinel never existed - almost as though the Golden Age of the Primes never ended. The 13 Primes still died to the Quintessons according to the historical records, and OP is just their sole prodigy/heir who took up the mantle after they died.

SG!Starscream remains the leader of the High Guard/Decepticons for a good while - because he's genuinely a good mech here (albeit still his usual self just more serious) and is a good leader. He's only removed as leader when... he dies. Because for some reason in Shattered Glass canon he dies, so he will also die here. Optimus kills him, which forces D-16 to eventually become Megatron.

I debated for a while if D-16 even names himself after Megatronus Prime here cause he's not really a Megatronus fanboy in my SG AU (I'm sorry, very scandalous I know). But I decided that yeah he would name himself after Megatronus (if only to keep his canonical name) and also because I realized it's not really fair to make ALL the 13 Primes warmongers instead of making them more nuanced.

Speaking of, while most of the 13 Primes are still warmongers (aka they started the war with the Quintessons), SG!Megatronus Prime - instead of being the strongest Prime - would have been the Primes' diplomat. Like he was the most intellectually smart among them and capable of using his words to get what the Primes want (they just failed to do that with the Quintessons).

The High Guard does model themselves after Megatronus (who is the least violent Prime) because at least he was always willing to negotiate or use diplomatic approaches before resorting to violence. Plus I think he's probably the most chill Prime that the High Guard remembers, and they def tell D-16 lots of stories about him enough that D-16 names himself after him eventually.

Also this just a funny idea but I like to think that SG!Sentinel - before the 13 Primes were killed - was just a really overworked and tired assistant. Like I like to imagine he was going to quit the day the 13 Primes died and he just had to go along with what the Quintessons wanted even though he really just wants to retire/go on a vacation. Well... at least he's resting in peace forever now.

Then just a few SG!MegOP ideas hehe

Actually, SG!Megatron doesn't have a savior complex towards SG!OP (same way TFOne Megatron loses his savior tendencies towards Pax). Instead, I'm giving the savior complex to SG!OP who thinks Megatron is just misguided and is actively trying to "help" him see that OP is the rightful ruler of Iacon. Megatron is just very tired of his crazy ex trying to kidnap him every other day lmao

SG!OP still has D-16's old arm that he accidentally chopped off when OP was trying to kill Sentinel. The only one who knows about this is Bee (who is genuinely freaked the fuck out about it, and if he wasn't scared of being killed, he def would have told other mechs about this). SG!OP also keeps the broken headlight injury where D-16 first shot him with a cannon as another remembrance.

Transformers One Spoiler Review

There are so many spoliers in this review. I am not kidding when I say go watch the film (five times at least) before reading this. Okay? Good.

I’m gonna be honest here. Growing up I wasn’t all that invested in the Transformers franchise as other kids were. I ocasionally watched a random episode of Transformers Animated or Prime whenever they were on TV back in the day but I wasn’t what you’d call a fan. All that changed after I watched Bumblebee (2018) on a whim and it changed my brain chemistry in the best way. Seriously, that film is still one of my comfort movies and I love it so much that I even began to write fanfiction again with several TF fics, including my Riding A Sunset story (https://archiveofourown.org/works/17648414/chapters/41617823).

But before Bumblebee, theatrical Live Action Transformer films had the infamous status of being bad to downright terrible for overusing bland human characters over the Autobots or Decepticons as well as being very inconsistent with their own established continuity. Not to mention making some characters act very out of character. Seeing a film like Bumblebee helped me believe that filmmakers are capable of telling a story that not only respects the lore but also genuinely cares about substance over spectacle outside of the well-made fight scenes. That was why I wanted to give Rise of the Beasts a chance when it came out but I was sadly a little underwhelmed. It is still better than any of the Transformer films Micheal Bay directed, but personally, that’s like saying the Eukrea 7 film “Pocket Full of Rainbows” is better than E7: Ao and the follow-up film trilogy, which isn’t saying much. Again, that’s just me and my biased opinion. Which is the whole point of this review.

But believe me when I say I did want to give Transformers One a chance. I was hopeful after learning it was going to be fully animated and would actually focus on the Transformers instead of some random humans. So, what kind of plot would the film be about it’s a prequel set on Cybertron?

Well…

Plot: The premise is the origin of the mighty leaders of the Autobots and Decepticons, Optimus Prime and Megatron, and how the two factions would eventually fight over control of their home planet, Cybertron. Both started as lowly miners unable to transform into vehicles like the other half of their race can and so are forced to work day in and day out in their underground home of Iacon City to collect the fuel source known as Energon. The reason they need to do so is because 50 cycles before the events of the story the leaders of Cybertron, The Primes, died in a war against an alien race called the Quintessons. After they were killed an important relic known as the Matrix of Leadership disappeared and it led to the Energon dwindling until it could only be found deep under the planet’s surface. Without Energon, the Cybertronians would perish, which is why Orion Pax (Optimus Prime’s identity before he became a Prime) wants to find out what happened to the Matrix of Leadership. The current leader of the Cybertronians, Sentinel Prime, is trying to find it out on the surface but has been unable to do so. D-16 (Megatron’s original name) would rather keep his head down but constantly gets dragged into whatever zany scheme Orion has come up with at the moment. Thanks to unintentionally antagonizing a Cybertronian named Darkwing the two get dumped into the lowest place imaginable and meet an overly talkative but friendly bot called B-127 (aka Bumblebee). There they discover a warped message from one of the fallen Primes, Alpha Trion, calling for aid. Orion sees this as an opportunity to find a clue to where the Matrix might be and convinces D and Bee to help him reach the surface and inadvertently brings along Elita-1, Pax and D’s former boss, who recently lost her job thanks to them breaking protocol to save another miner’s life. The four bots end up discovering Alpha Trion’s unconscious body and manage to wake him up. He reveals to them that Sentinel is not what he seems and tells them a horrible truth:

Sentinel was never a Prime and was the one responsible for killing the original Primes with help from the Quintessons.

And all of the Energon the Cybertronians have been mining was being given to the Quintessons by Sentinel as a form of hush money to keep them from revealing his true colors to the Cybertronians. The heroes later learn that he was also the one responsible for taking their cogs as newborns so they could never have the freedom to be anything else but miners. The story then goes to show how Orion, Elita, and Bee want to bring Sentinel to justice while D (who gets slowly consumed by his deeply suppressed anger) wants to seek vengeance against Sentinel for what he has done and kill him for his crimes. The story gradually unfolds as lines are drawn, and tragically, the beautiful friendship between Orion and D ends with them becoming bitter enemies under their new personas, Optimus and Megatron. The movie ends bittersweetly with Optimus inspiring his former fellow miners into becoming Autobots and bringing Energon back to the planet as soon as he was given the Matrix after he sacrificed himself trying to save Sentinel from D/Megatron’s wrath. He also gave the miners their T-Cogs back, restoring their freedom and autonomy. Optimus then sends a message to the Quintessons, telling them he and the Autobots will be ready to face them when they return. Meanwhile, Megatron forms a new faction consisting of the previous members of the dead Primes' High Guard and calls them Decepticons to remind themselves to never be deceived by anyone again.

Damn.

Characters/Voices: The film leans heavily on established lore from pretty much all of the comics, the Aligned Continuity, some Live Action stuff, and Transformers Animated. I wasn’t bothered by the celebrity voice cast. Don’t get me wrong, I will always choose professional VAs over celebrities anytime, but I genuinely thought everyone did a great job, especially Chris Hemsworth as Orion/Optimus and Brian Tyree Henry as D-16/Megatron. Henry said in interviews he was using his experience as an activist in college as inspiration for how resentful and angry D-16/Megatron sounded in wanting to change things and I say he succeeded. Hemsworth had done his homework by consulting with THE Optimus Prime himself, Peter Cullen. I personally like to believe Cullen shared his “how I became Optimus Prime story” which is summed up by how Optimus should “Be Strong Enough To Be Gentle.” The reason I think that is because I felt it in Hemsworth’s performance, especially at the end of the film. I loved how they gradually sounded more like Optimus and Megatron as the story progressed. Which is both amazing and heartbreaking at the same time because you could see from the start how close Orion and D-16 were to each other before learning about the truth. It gave me the same feelings after seeing other great friendships/sibling bonds like Vi/Power/Jynx and Moses/Ramses fall apart in Arcane and The Prince of Egypt. Also, was anyone else reminded of that scene from The Fox and The Hound Todd and Copper's promise of staying friends after seeing Optimus' flashback of his first meeting with D-16? );

Other standouts include Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion. He gave the Prime a grand presence that almost reminds me of James Earl Jones as Mufasa from The Lion King. RIP.

Scarlett Johansen was great as Elita-1, but I already had zero doubts since she had experienced voice acting before this film.

Vanessa Liguori did a great job of giving Airachnid a sinister personality.

And I have no idea who this “Jon Bailey” is, but he certainly gave Soundwave an “Epic” voice that I liked. ;)

Steven Buscemi as Starscream was a delightful surprise, even if I learned way more about Starscream’s kinks in this film than I would like, but hey, if he likes getting hit and choked, I won’t kink shame him.

Jon Hamm made me hate Sentinel so much. Give him an Oscar, please.

Now, the one actor who I was a bit wary of was Keegan-Michael Key as B-127/Bee. Bee has quickly become one of my favorite Transformers thanks to Bumblebee (2018), and I was worried Key would make him unbearable to sit through. But as I said earlier, the script (and possibly the voice director) made Bee come off as annoying in a “doesn’t know better” kind of way that almost leans to obnoxious but more akin to a hyperactive young adult who’s happy to have friends. Heck, the film even knows his voice could get annoying and made several funny jokes surrounding it. Also, the film knew to only have Bee talk too much during scenes that were supposed to be funny. When it came to the more quiet moments Bee was able to take things seriously as well as the rest of the characters.

And yes, I noticed Steve Blum was the racer announcer and archive guard. He did amazing as per usual. No notes.

Animation: I can’t stress enough how beautiful the animation for this film is. Industrial Light & Magic did an excellent job with the animation and I hope to see them do another Transformers film like this again. I loved the way Iacon City was designed.

The director, Josh Cooley, said the filmmakers were inspired by the Art Deco movement and you can see it from how the buildings look. It gives off a Metropolis meets Blade Runner in the best way. I also liked the way the roads and rail tracks would “magically” appear when someone was driving on them. And the way the planet’s mountains moved was also nice to look at.

And this is something that my mom liked while she watched the film was how Alpha Trion used sand to show the past and what happened to the Primes. (Who knew Alpha Trion was an Earthbender? XD)

One touch that I really like was when after the quartet learns of Sentinel’s alliance when the Quintessons you can see D-16 is sitting further away from the others and has his back facing them. A subtle sign showing the growing distance between him and the heroes. And the way his optics gradually changed from gold, orange, and finally to red was done very well.

Also, when Orion reunited with the miners he made sure to kneel so he wasn’t towering over them. It’s a nice way that show how humble he truly is compared to Sentinel and later Megatron.

And another thing was when D-16 shot Orion his left arm got destroyed. D-16 originally ad the Megatronus Prime decal Orion gifted him at the beginning of the film on his right arm, too. It truly feels like D-16 is destroying his old self in that moment.

Did anyone else notice that Shockwave and Soundwave initially had yellow optics and visors, but they were changed to red in the post-credit scene? They must've did it to match their new leader, which I'm sure Starscream was very "happy" about since he was originally leader of the High Guard and had red optics before Megatron. XD

I didn’t expect this film to get violent, but the shot of Megatron killing Sentinel by pulling him apart was brutal. The film did not kid around with its PG rating.

Nitpicks:

If I could complain about a few things I would say that I wished the film had a slightly longer runtime. At least 10-15 more minutes in the third act. I would’ve loved to see more of the final battle with the miners fighting Sentinel’s soldiers and Optimus vs. Megatron. I did mean it when I said Hemsworth and Henry killed it as Optimus and Megatron. But hey, if their performances were that good it definitely convinced me to go see the next film with them in it.

I would’ve liked to have seen other animals on Cybertron’s surface besides those metal deer but that’s just me.

Also, this is just a me thing again, but I kinda wished the miner characters (or minors XD) had more distinct voices. It’s just that since the Generation 1 cartoon, all of the Autobots were known for having unique accents like Ironhide’s southern drawl, Wheeljack’s Brooklyn accent, or Jazz’s smooth way of speaking. I mean, if the High Guard/Decepticons were allowed to have voices based on their original counterparts the Autobots should’ve had the same thing, ya know?

And how dare they tease me with namedropping “Medic Ratchet” but not actually have him appear in the film. I want my grumpy doc-bot. And Drift. I don’t think I saw Deadlock with the High Guard. Did anyone? I think I mostly just saw Seekers and Coneheads in the crowd shots.

HC/Theories:

The reason mining Energon was so dangerous had to do with Primus himself deliberately trying to halt it as much as possible. Think about it, Primus sent the Matrix of Leadership away before Sentinel could use it. I bet Primus didn’t want Sentinel to give Energon to the Quintessons which Sentinel ended up doing by making Cybertronians mine for it. Primus also probably made the mountains move while the group was on the train because we later learn it was full of Energon and not waste like Elita initially thought. Primus has been trying to undermine Sentinel’s plans all this time but probably couldn’t do too much damage as he didn’t want to hurt innocent Cybertronians in the process. And another thing to add is the fact that it looks like the planet itself is moving after Orion was dropped by D-16/Megatron so that Primus himself would bring him to the planet’s core and bring him to life as Optimus Prime because he knew the young miner was worthy of the Matrix.

I’m pretty sure Jazz became one of the first Autobots because he wanted to show his appreciation to Optimus for saving his life earlier in the film.

I like to think the reason why B talked so much in One was probably to make up for the fact that he barely talked at all in previous TF films. Though, there is another theory going around that in the next movie, the filmmakers are planning to make him mute which is why he talks alot in One. I seriously hope that WON’T happen because I’m sick and tired of Bee losing his voice so often. I know some later shows have avoided this, namely Robots in Disguise (2015) and EarthSpark, but I would seriously love the films to follow the same example.

Overall:

I love this movie a lot. I’m pretty sure if this was my first time seeing it instead of Bumblebee (2018) I think this would’ve altered my brain chemistry as much as that film did. If you haven’t seen this movie go watch it and if you have, go see it again. I WANT this movie to do well in theaters and not be a failure. The fact that it took us this long to get a film that captures the Spark of Transformers and be something both fans and newcomers can enjoy is nothing short of a miracle. We need Hasbro and Paramount to know this and Bumblebee are the kind of content we want to keep seeing and not the same movie with “Bayhem” over and over again.

You know how swans will try to kill themselves after their mate dies? Imagine if cybertronians are the same and that's why Optimus is so self sacrificial in TFP. Without Elita-1 (since iirc she's dead in that continuity) Optimus physically cannot carry on without wanting to reunite with her in the afterlife

Optimus was desperately to reunite with her but he can't. He's a Prime, he's got people relying on him - family, friends, Cybertron. If he dies, Megatron wins, even if it would soothe his spark to be with Elita once more.

Maybe it hurts even more that he's so far away from Cybertron. Presumably she died there, he can't even be close to her burial site or the Allspark where she now resides.

I do also enjoy the idea that those who died after the Allspark was removed, their sparks linger on Cybertron's surface, unable to return to the Allspark anymore. That is, until it returns.

Maybe post-war Optimus would consider ending it? He has no fight left now the fightings over. Maybe when he gives up his spark to return the Allspark, he's got his own ulterior motives. Optimus can finally save Cybertron while returning to his love.

the birth of megatron was so fucking hard hitting, the utter disgust megatron associates with primes thanks to sentinel that his exe friend now reps? ow anyways just, scenario idea where in sometime with the civil war between autobot and decepticons has been on for awhile you got megatron waking one day to himself as the supreme decepticon emperor of cybertron. the idea he was just fighting to take cybertron is almost distance in this strange scenario, just out of reach as he basks in his empire. before he thinks of Optimus. and of course he does, though he would love nothing more to crush and finally destroy the system of primes, all their lies and threat to his power forever, the problem with that lies in one thing. the matrix. sentinel pried it from zeta only for it to flee. megatron is better then sentinel that monster he is superior and right but the whims of a god just whisking away their source of energy is one he knows he cannot overcome for now until they learn to trap the matrix for good without a prime needed. but of course his call for prime has a reminder they smelted sentinel and buried him deep in the earth to rot for his crimes after his execution as justice to the miners who died. what? he wants to know where optimus prime is! which sparks confusion. A. New Prime? no one questions their lord to his face other then starscream asking if he's having hallucinations about a new prime since he didn't get to savor ending the traitor. of course megatron wouldn't like that kind of quip or snipe remark starscream might say, and choke out the seeker as his thoughts clash Optimus who? the thought is so wild so rage inducing cause OPTIMUS! OPTIMUS PRIME! HIS VILE ENEMY. The- -the traitor he dropped to his death? megatron throws starscream and orders everyone out, who run from their unpredictable leader as he sits on his throne clutching his helm. prime. PRIME DAMMIT. there isn't a prime, he killed the last one and ended their lies, WHERE IS OPTIMUS-! his thoughts fight against each other as conflicting memories clash against another mech's who finds it hard to even think of prime and his rise. which is insane- the traitor died for daring to defend sentinel- OPTIMUS ROSE with his DEATH- he killed elita and b and took the helm of cybertron- No, Prime came and fought him and banished him like the coward he is- never was willing to finish the job which is why he died- the clarity of just what the other voice in his head saying hits as hard as the day he learned his life was a lie. He killed Orion Pax and no one rose in his place. The Primes are dead in this world. and doesn't that hurt, the owner of this body starts to rips through the memory files that has be inserted in his helm for the one of a new enemy rising, sees video of him with the matrix and thinks 'why.' megatron fights back against, seeing a world never had energy flow again, everyone who dared voice against him and rein having tcogs ripped out for the victims of the system to reclaim something ravenous claws at the memories of megatron, of life flowing on their world again, of orion pax optimus prime and what they had stolen, taken, refused to them, their world dying without the matrix, struggling to fight the quintessons and steal back what was taken from him in the first place. but this brief event that caused this eventually boots megatron back to his own world, leaving behind a mech who cackles with a fevor that belies the insanity in them. the one on the throne rises his helm and swears it. He will have what that world has. -ending notes! i briefly considered having this other world's leader now be a galvatron, didn't follow through on the idea but you can consider it him if you want. -i imagine a world where op never rose is a very hard one for the transformers to just survive much less thrive, seeing a world where your friend didn't stay dead from what you did with natural energy resources again? would be the kind of thing any leader would crave for themselves in this situation.

-if this other worlder would try and find a way to get to that world or try and force find a prime to have that for themselves is your call.

in the case of a galvatron on the throne world, can have a hot rod in a scenario of trying to find a prime to bring underheel to win their war and restore their planet makes sense, though if galvatron exists in this one cause of a deal for power from unicorn then that would be awkward...

though a far more hardened megatron kidnapping op whose in the middle of two front war is also a very hilarious vision cause you know that guy would inspite of the kidnapping want to help this other version of his home, though he'd REALLY like to go home
