9.) What's your favorite scene/ moment from the book?

OGH! See that's a tough one 'cause I have quite a few that spin around my brain all the time. I wanna say the first one that comes to mind is just before the rumble where Soda's chantin' "I'm a hood! I'm a delinquent! I mar the streets of this good city! And boy do I have fun!" (not exact quote but somethin' similar) AGH I love that boy 'n I think about how the three brothers view bein' a greaser so vastly differently ALL the time😭 A few honorable mentions for when Johnny 'n Pony show up at Buck's 'n Dallas instantly gets on Pony for bein' all wet 'cause he was gonna get pneumonia 'n Darry was gonna kill him, the whole beginin' where Pony absently mentions he draws Dallas when he's angry 'cause it's easiest to capture him that way 'n when he calls Darry cold followed up STRAIGHT away with Darry makin' him put a band aide on his cut. Sure Pone. He hates ya.

11.) What's your opinion on the movie?

Man I love that stupid goddamn movie so much. I've watched it more times than I could count 'n forced a good number of my buds to watch it too. The castin' was so good 'n I feel like they managed to capture the energy of the book so well. I know some of y'all ain't gonna like this but I think The Outsiders movie was probably one of the greatest book -> movie adapts I've seen. I think my ONE gripe has gotta be the castin' for Dallas. Or maybe not even the castin' as much as I was real fond of blond, long-haired, blue-eyed, loser Dallas. Somethin' about his white ash hair 'n unsettlin' eyes 'n the fact that that sets him aside visually as an outsider in the gang even more than he already is.

15.) 5 head canons I basically see as canon

1.) The Shepard's 'n Johnny are all POC. For Johnny it's at least partially canon but in my mind the Shepard's will always 'n forever be POC.

2.) The Curtis' all have freckles. Soda has 'em year round, Pony has a few all year but gets 'em mostly in summer, 'n Darry only gets a handful in summer.

3.) Pony has a fear of the water post canon. He can't go near fountains or pools. For a good amount of time he couldn't even bring himself to go near a shower. he'd flinch when the tap came on. it was brutal.

4.) Soda never leaves Tulsa for any significant amount of time. He's the only Curtis brother to do so. Pony goes to college. Darry moves out of Tulsa. Not far (he wasn't made to go far from home. even if his parents had lived. Darry will come back one day. his center of gravity. his black hole) Soda will never leave. He never wanted to.

5.) a technical adjustment to canon I am ALWAYS ignorin is that the gang doesn't spend a significant amount of time together. (Steve spends most nights at his own home. Same with Two. Johnny doesn't hang around the Curtis' 'cause he doesn't wanna be a bother. Pony mentions they all have separate groups they hang with. He mentions both him n Darry dont really fw Dallas.) WRONG. in my heart they will always m forever be in that livin room. they're family. their world orbits the Curtis home.

6.) (bonus 'cause the last few were kinda sad so sorry that's my b) Johnny is so goddamn feral. Pony has fallen for his big wet eyes n pathetic vibes n managed to miss that Johnny is a tuff greaser who smokes n fights n loves a good five finger discount. maybe he's not nearly as bad as some of the others but that kid can be a lil shit. as a treat.

I saw something in the news today that truly took my breath away. If you have been paying attention to U.S. politics over the past few days, you’ve most likely seen this woman:

This is Bishop Mariann Budde, and on Monday (Trump’s inauguration) she led an interfaith prayer for Trump and the incoming administration. During the service she asked him to have mercy for LGBTQ+ Americans and undocumented immigrants. This was badly received by the Trump administration (as expected).

After seeing headlines about this woman, I read something that I wanted to share. In 1998 a man named Matthew Shepard was murdered for being gay. I’m not going to get into the details of his death on this post, but please be warned it is extremely triggering if you do choose to read more on your own. Matthew Shepard’s death caused a lot of change in the U.S. regarding how LGBTQ hate crimes are handled, and laws that were passed to protect LGBTQ+ people.

Now you’re probably wondering what Matthew Shepard has to do with an Episcopal bishop. For years after Matthew Shepard’s murder, his family had held onto his remains, too scared to lay him to rest in fear of his final resting place being vandalized. In 2018, Budde had his remains interred at the National Cathedral, which is also the place where the interfaith prayer for Trump and his administration took place. The impact of this really had an effect on me. Budde could have led a non confrontational prayer service, and chosen not to mention the harm that will come to the people Trump and his administration are going after. Instead she chose to call out hate and fear in front of some of the most powerful people on the planet, and at a place that has such a large historic meaning to the LGBTQ community.

In the next few years there will be many challenges in protecting free speech, standing up against hate, and protecting those in our communities. But I would like to believe that for every Donald Trump and Elon Musk, there are people like Marianne Budde. There are those of us who can’t speak up for themselves, so it’s important for those of us who can to amplify our voices, even if it’s not the ‘popular’ thing to do.

the trump administration is already slowly taking away our rights, no longer legally recognizing us and only seeing two genders in america — male and female — and passports no longer taking new gender maker changes or x gender markers. this is just the start of it most likely

they've erased mentions of LGBTQ on government websites and removed pages related to honoring nex benedict and matthew shepard, like they never existed. we know they existed though and we need to keep both nex benedict and matthew shepard's names alive and remember what horrible violence and hate crime took them away from us.

this is not to scare anyone. this is to inform the masses on what our government is doing. censorship is actively happening around us. do you know the world is protesting for us? no? the united states have already started their censorship, their propaganda for this administration. do not let them censor us and hide us from the truth. speak up, learn, adapt, and inform others.

Something that really stuck with me while I was playing Mass Effect 2, and that I feel was so important to understanding the relationship between Shepard and Garrus, whether you romance him or not, is that Garrus is your only companion from ME1 who never moved on.

You died. The crew watched you die. Assumedly they grieved you, there was a funeral service, there were tears and all five stages of grief. Things were rough, but eventually life took on a shade of normalcy again.

Kaiden/Ashley got reassigned and continued their work for the alliance. Liara fights tooth and nail to get your body to Cerberus, but then it’s out of her hands and she becomes an information broker. Tali goes back to the Floatilla, like she was always supposed to. Wrex becomes a clan leader. And yes, they’re all fundamentally changed by their time on the Normandy, but no one seems as stuck as Garrus Vakarian.

Because he doesn’t go back to the Citadel. He doesn’t join the Turian Hierarchy. He ships himself off to Omega, one of the most dangerous places he could be, and makes a life out of pissing off the most dangerous people there. It’s kind of a suicide mission, especially after what happened with Sidonis. He kind of figures he’s going to die doing this, but what else can he do?

There is no normalcy for Garrus in a world without Shepard, and I think that’s why he’s always immediately ready to come back to the Normandy. The Normandy, and Shepard, are home for Garrus and that’s why I think romancing him feels like the natural conclusion for so many femme Sheps, because Shepard feels that way too.

Of all the companions, no one needs Shepard to live more than Garrus, and no one needs Garrus more than Shepard. They’re perfectly matched, as lovers, as friends, as soldiers, as whatever they are in your universe and when you’re that perfectly matched with someone, you never quite feel whole without them.
