Genuine Question: Given how much people hate problematic topics in BL eg: kp, mame, love syndrome, etc. why is everyone so damn excited about Only Friends? Like we know nothing about the show. It's GMMTV so how sexy is it going to get? you know, like it's GMMTV. I like the cast as much as anyone and particularly FirstKhao but I don't see this 'sexiness' everyone is going so crazy over? Is it some bts thing like I know the director is jojo and he's gay. Is that why everyone so excited? Is it because we just haven't gotten anything really brilliant this year that gets the whole BL fandom together and that's why people are hoping this will, is that what's going on? I like everyone involved well enough but 'sexy', 'crazy', 'problematic', 'high heat'... I don't get it.

From the tenor of your question methinks you have not watched Friend Zone? It's a 2 part series. Mostly messy hets but...

Also a TON of broad spectrum queer rep (lesbian, bi, ace, demi). Real queers, not sanitized for straight consumption.

Because yeah, GMMTV will get messy and go into higher heat levels in a late night way (not in a KP way).

But actually what has most people excited about Only Friends is it being sourced in this man:

Jojo is a screenwriter (originals) and director, openly gay, multifaceted and a little experimental, naturally talented (on the job trained - he's an archaeologist originally), and he is behind:

The Warp Effect, Friend Zone and MOST importantly (IMHO)...

3 Will Be Free

There are others too, but for the purposes of this post, those are the 3 that count. I think of him a little as the GMMTV director version of Ohm's acting.

Jojo specializes in:

ensemble pieces,

good chemistry (NOT necessarily high heat, so by this I mean actor chemistry with each other all around - couples, cast, team, production)

working with and finding actors within GMMTV's stable who work well together (even if that means busting up a pair),

a queer lens,

queer rep,

and often very messy story (as in he is not invested in the traditional beats of a romance, let alone a BL).

AND he can shoot action (this is a specific skill set for directors and it's NOT easy),

thus he will shoot his sex/intimacy & COMEDY scenes as if they WERE action sequences.

This makes his stuff particularly exciting to watch. It's dynamic, there's a lot of movement, the eye is caught and dragged places. He doesn't use dirty/peekaboo framing or central aperture or manga style (not with INTENT the way trained directors do). In fact he does none of those things I harp on about because I like the romance stuff.

He's not being clever with us. He's being honest, but still applying skill. His stuff not quite raw, but also not really directed. You can tell he gives his actors a script, throws them together and then instructs them to just BE THOSE CHARACTERS. He has a light touch, he trusts them. He's not fussy or nit-picky. He's not doing a million takes to get that sene exactly how he envisions it. His ensemble pieces are just that, group projects.

His eye is wide, even for intimacy, by which I mean: he controls and watches for multiple actors at once when there are a lot of them on screen together, without them feeling stiff.

His style is quite organic but not too gritty.

Struggling to understand what I mean?

For example, watch a Jojo "group of friends chatting" scene where everyone is just standing around then watch the same thing in, say, SCOY. You'll see what I mean. SCOY is also a very queer ensemble piece, but it will feel quite stiff, unnatural, and "planned" (staged) by comparison.

For the giffers out there you might notice that Jojo's stuff is particularly difficult to gif cleanly? This is why.

I find him an exciting director. I didn't cover him in my directors overview because at the time he hadn't done much BL (and frankly, he still hasn't). It's not his focus.

I think Only Friends is actually not likely to be very BL. Queer = yes, BL = NO. He won't hit the tropes and there is no reason to assume it will end happily for all couples (if any). That's not Jojo's point of view.

He doesn't play our game. As a result, some of those excited by the idea of this show (or excited the general enthusiasm & anticipation around it), may be doomed to disappointment.

It's one of the reasons you don't see me getting excited about it.

I'm a fan of specifically the fluffy side of BL, this will NOT be that. And I can appreciate a director without necessarily liking the stories he tells.

I am industry enough to acknowledge Jojo's skill (and I LOVE 3 Will Be Free - just not as a BL), but I don't always like his narratives. No matter how good he is, his stuff is not why I personally watch Thai BL.

It's GMMTV, so how sexy is it going to get?

Again, see Friend Zone. GMMTV has a late night pantheon, mostly for het, but they will get salacious. Lots of cheating and terrible decisions. There will be no archetypes. Characters will exist in grey areas, even the "good" characters. There will be no paladins in this show. No seme/uke.

To answer this frankly?

Only Friends will get soap opera or telenovella sexy but no more. So we will be in Midnight Chicken territory, not Bed Friends.

I think the words being bandied about:

'sexy', 'crazy', 'problematic', 'high heat'

are used here on tumblr (and in fandom) as an attempt to articulate expectations set up by Jojo's style.

Most viewers only react emotionally to the tenor of a director with this set of skills. That's fine, that's what the production company wants: A visceral emotional reaction.

But I hope I've managed to clarify from a film-critic perspective what's bringing this sensation about?

But ALSO seeing a bunch of, essentially, lower heat pure BL pairs, have to push themselves into messy queer spaces? (Notice GMMTV only let the more established actors into this one? No JoongDunk, no GeminiFourth)

This is probably really what everyone is excited about.

They are gonna see their favorites cheat, sleep around, be gay (not BL gay, but actual gay). Some are legitimately excited about this, some are shipper excited, and the BL-stans who don't know Jojo are doomed to disappointment.

I'm mostly excited by how messy this is gonna make the fandom.

GMMTV '25 Showcase Ranking

Coming back from the dead to give my ranking (that nobody asked for) from the recent GMMTV 2025 showcase.

Firstly, before getting into my ranking... I don't think I've ever been so underwhelmed and overwhelmed by a GMMTV showcase before. Out of the 20 series announced, 16.5 of them were BLs (one is a mix of hetero and BL), 2 were GLs, and only one, ONE was a straight series.

I can't even begin to tell you how far my jaw hit the floor each time a new series was being shown and it was ANOTHER BL. While I'm happy for the progression that we're receiving, I can already tell you half of these won't make it to 2025, let alone if they even make it to 2026.

During the watch, I lowkey thing I got... BL-block a bit? It was almost like I wanted to turn it off cause it was so much. I think I've talked about the over-saturation of BLs on Tumblr plenty of times, but this was just the cherry on top, for real.

Okay, okay onto the actual rankings:

From Least to Most Anticipated (BL Only):

1. Wu The Series

Dead last just cause we got next to nothing about the plot, and it gave major bromance energy. I went ahead and added it to my PTW, but I'll just drop it if it ends up being bromance. Some kind of fate, red thread, alternate universe (?) thing. It was obviously put together last-minute, and when I mean last-minute, I literally mean that. No other characters besides the main two, just them talking and fighting... that was literally it. I've already seen some discourse on this being strictly bromance, so it'll most likely will be DNF-ed.

2. Me-Te-Luv

The half straight, half BL series. Seems to be some type of anthology series, so if I can skip to just the BL episodes, then that works for me! But seemed deep (again) in fate and chances and making wishes, and blah blah blah. We get OhmLeng, KeenSea, and maybe some others that weren't specifically said. Seems like a lot of this is geared towards the enemies-to-lovers realm, which for me is "eh". Also, I'm curious how they're going to handle the storyline with the feminine men, I think it'll be fine if they want to make it comedic but not demeaning. We'll see, though.

3. Cat For Cash

A lighthearted FirstKhao series (finally), but seems like it might still pull a couple of heartstrings. It was just simply super underwhelming for me, I think cause I'm so used to seeing First and Khaotung do big and complex and heartbreaking, so this was just super silly and a little out of my comfort zone.

4. Dare You to Death

Not a DunkJoong fan, so this just immediately doesn't speak to me. Seems like a cool plot with a murder mystery + truth or dare aspect going on, so I hope they can prove me wrong successfully.

5. My Magic Prophecy

Reminded me a lot of Triage even though I know this isn't that. Not a JimmySea fan either, so again, a bit underwhelming. Also, the trailer was "eh". Seems like the trend for GMMTV this year is fate and signs and prophecies and whatnot (I smell a tarot card sponsorship coming on). Although, I did really like Last Twilight, so I'd be pleasantly okay with them proving me wrong about this series.

6. That Summer

EXTREMELY underwhelming. Again, not a WinnySatang fan, so this didn't speak to me at all. I think the prince aspect might be a little fun, but other than that, this gave me nothing. The only reason it's not lower on the list is because MOND MOND MOND MOND MOND and MOND. Mond is in this and I'm so seated. No one loves that man like I do. And he has a pairing??!! Me: 🪑

7. My Romance Scammer

Honestly? I'm still a little confused after 2 trailer watches, but, I see Mark shirtless and I click PTW. Also, Ohm paired with another Fluke had me giggling like a fucking idiot. Seems like Ohm and Junior's characters marry Fluke and Mark for their money? But then I guess they'll end up actually falling in love with them? I'm not sure, I'm here for a good time not a long time, ya'll.

8. Melody Of Secrets

I'm confused, I feel like I got spoiled lowkey within the trailer, and I'm not sure where the hell anything is going. Seems to be another murder mystery mixed with amnesia (?). Again, I have no fucking clue, and it doesn't help that there's not a synopsis on MDL yet. But Force was shirtless and I'm gullible... so PTW.

9. Love You Teacher

Soooooo much to unpack here. Seems lighthearted but also super sad. I'm curious about how they're going to handle their romance when one has the mindset of a 7-year-old (in and out, but still). I feel like this could easily dip into something overly infantilizing, but as long as they allow Perth's character to steadily try to help Santa's character with patience, understanding, and LOTS of non-physical (in a sexual way) contact, then I think this could be a story worth telling. I have yet to see much from Perth and Santa, but I'm already a fan.

10. A Dog and A Plane

I laughed a couple of times which is the only reason why this is not lower on the list. Also, Poon acting badass and isn't the comedic relief? PTW, IMMEDIATELY.

11. Memoir of Rati

The trailer did it justice, but not enough to be higher on the list. Also, not the biggest fan of historical dramas. However, the AouBoom part of this looks fucking insane, and I'm so excited. Inn and Great surprised me in their first series together, so I have no doubt I'll end up falling in love with this one too.

12. Me and Thee

A Pond and Phuwin series so far up on the list?? I'm gasping. But honestly, this looked really fucking good. I'm not a fan of PongPhuwin in the slightest, but this trailer ate and left zero crumbs. Pond, a rich man who only knows how to impress with his money, and Phuwin, the guy to teach him how to love organically. I'm flabbergastedly seated. I hope this is the series that turns me into a PondPhuwin lover (also, Phuwin looks so fine as fuck in this?? My God??).

13. Burnout Syndrome

I saw Off's ass so...yeah. But also, this looks SO good, and so Gun and Off. I'm excited, and scared. Dew is a cutie, we all know how it's going to end, but I like that they added another man to tower over Gun. This is giving scary and sexy and heartbreaking, so you know I'll watch it.

14. Only Friend: Dream On

MIXEARTH???!! Don't grab me a seat, grab me a bottle of Mike's Hard and a fucking couch, 'cause WE'RE SO FUCKING BACK. After being underwhelmed by the Ossan's Love trailer last year, this has exceeded all expectations. so SO excited. and Mix better end up kissing everybody, EVERYBODY! It's going to be so messy, and so sexy and so dramatic, and I'm so ready.

15. Head 2 Head

Look.. I'm shocked too. A SeaKeen series so high on my most anticipated, top 3 at that!! I added this mostly because I saw so much change in Sea's acting, even in that short teaser. If he can deliver, then I have faith that this will be a good series. I think the angst got to me the most, maybe the, "we're forced to be in close proximities and be all cute and domestic while trying to run away from our future prophecies" which I love more than anything.

16. Boys In Love

The way I squealed through the entirety of this teaser. I'm a connoisseur of first loves and finding yourself, and this screamed that. High School BLs will have a special place in my heart, and I'm so incredibly excited about this. Do you know how ready I was to see Mudmee's face when Chokun's character says he needs to find someone to love and it was A FUCKING BOY?? AND THE CUTEST ADORABLIST ONE AT THAT??! I have a beanbag chair with my name on it waiting and ready for this series to drop. ALSO, ALSO... PODD and PAPANG???? If you heard a scream, just now it came from me, cause HOLY FUCK I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED.

17. Ticket To Heaven

Of course, GMMTV saved the best series for last. Phew, this is about to break my heart, stitch it back, and then break it all over again. I'm so ready ad NOT ready for this series. It's so exciting and thrilling and overwhelming seeing F4 taking on these roles, and doing it with so much grace and talent. The teaser literally had me on the brink of tears. This is such a touchy subject, but I believe in Aof and I believe that if he is able to turn this into something beautiful, this can really take off. This is the first series, EVER, that I think could potentially take over my overall favorite BL spot (A Tale of Thousand Stars). This is also coming from somebody who is an adamant ATOTS fan and is stubborn about letting it go, but if this series can deliver and approach this sensitive subject with justice, understanding, and love, then it'll be #1.

Still can't believe the amount of BL's we have, MIND YOU, we still haven't even gotten 3-4 of the other BLs that were supposed to come out this year. I'm almost certain that most of the BLs won't come out till 2026, and honestly beyond that since we'll get another list at the end of 2025 too.

Last thing: Where the fuck is Louis? He's in one series?? And only as a supporting role, really??? Maybe they're saving something big for him, and they better be, cause wtf?

Kidnap Ep 12 liveblog

This is even more incoherent than usual because I went in expecting absolutely nothing but fluff and they exceeded expectations, so!!! I'm happy. 10 out of 12 eps worked really well for me. Easy rec for popcorn fluff watch with excellent sibling dynamics, good chemistry, and surprisingly good handling of mental health issues. Also some of the best audio mixing on a gmmtv show so far, imo, and I loved the colour work (ymmv). I look forward to finishing the novel.

Do you know why Krist is such a hated artist? I see that he doesn't have the best reputation especially social media wise fandom really seems to hate him but no one really ever explains why is he like Ohm/Foei really problematic or more Phuwin/Pond said some dumb stuff when he was younger just before going into BMF I want to know

now, your question is about whether krist is truly problematic like foei & ohm or said a dumb thing in the past that he now regrets like pond & phuwin, and the thing is that no one knows. bc of it being a repeated behavior, we KNOW krist was problematic at some point, but all of these things happened years ago at this point. has krist changed? maybe, but since he's never addressed this we'll probably never know. which is why I'll be advocating for my favorite thing in these situations: NUANCE! it's okay to acknowledge people's ability to grow & better themselves, bc it happens to all of us. but so far, have we seen significant change from him to conclude that it's all in the past? I don't think so either.

I believe that his behavior stems from a lot of toxic masculinity & insecurity in himself, which made him try to push the gay label as far from him as he could. which is NOT an excuse at all & what he did is still deffo homophobic, but thinking about the fact that kristsingto were the first thai ship to ever blow up that big puts things in perspective. I don't think they were equipped for the toxic fans tbh.

now though, will I ever be a krist fan, even if I end up potentially loving be my favorite? no. but do I hate krist? no. or do I let his presence in shows ruin them? no. he's just someone I'm very indifferent to & imo that's the best thing to do about him. hope that answered you well enough!

What I think ESO does incredibly well is give lore to races that desperately needed it.

There's a settlement of Kothringi which both showcases some of their traditions as well as showing how and why the race went extinct (and how this settlement survived).

There's a base-game zone as well as entire zone DLC that explore the depths of argonian lore beyond "idk Hist"

There's a zone DLC that gives a LOT of personality to Reachmen, as well as exploring their traditions, culture and religion, portraying them as actual people and not just an enemy type. And also showcases actual Reachmen and not just Forsworn - two separate things that many compress into one. Yeah, Forsworn are Reachmen, but not all Reachmen are Forsworn.

It expands on khajiiti lore, as well as actually showing multiple different variants of khajiit in game (no ohmes, though, kinda disappointing). Would be surprising if it didn't, with two whole DLCs dedicated to Elsweyr x)

It also expands on Bosmer lore quite a lot, but not as much as I would've liked, but anyway.

It does a lot for Sea Sloads, and I mean a lot - especially considering that before that they existed as a single line of text and nothing more.

It adds maormer and gives some of them some complexity through quests, which is also very nice to see.

It even shows us visions of ayleids as if they were alive, giving us the sense of their skin and eye color (surprisingly enough, they aren't just adding altmers instead of ayleids and calling it a day, they're actually somewhat different).

Anyway, lore

Unfortunately I haven't gotten to much of it yet (I've only done the main quest and DC content so far. I just started AD before taking my break), but I do appreciate this about the game too, even if I'm not a fan of what they did decide to add/develop. I think that's one of eso's strongest attributes, that it let's us explore more of Tamriel without having to wait for full blown games.

I hope you're right about the Reachmen thing btw, because the base game did quite frankly badly with them (from what I've seen)

Yes I miss them so much already and Im gonna miss them forever. But Im so happy. This journey of love has been the best thing happened in my life. Sometimes ill wonder what if I never came across this BL world. I can't imagine that cuz I cant imagine a life without PatPran. I was at my worst when I met PatPran. They became my comfort zone and still they are. They will always be my comfort zone. I am happy that we got to see PatPran story. Im happy and thankful that they allowed us to experience everything with them. We laughed, cried, smiled, screamed and did so many things with them. They gave us a whole lifetime memory. And im gonna hold that memory close to my heart, forever.

Now it's time to send PatPran back to their own world. It's a goodbye yet not a goodbye. Thank you P'Aof, Ohm, Nanon, Jimmy, Drake, Love, Milk, Mark and every single one that made Bad Buddy happen. Everyone!

I'm the designated account manager for Mauville Fix Shop's Tumblr blog since I'm already on here... a little bit much. Moving along, I also work on old-model Pokénav repairs part-time. Primarily, though, I'm a student at Mauville Technical College majoring in electrical engineering!

Day (♂) the Heliolisk: My starter and current strongest team member, Day is an incredible attacker when the sun's up! Very friendly out of battle, too.

Bhaskara the Heat Rotom: It would watch the world burn just out of curiosity of what happens after. I respect its commitment to science regardless. After being given a smart oven from Wattson (who incorrectly predicted it would talk), Wattson gifted it to me.

Amp (♀) the Raichu: I caught her as a Pikachu 2 years ago on a field trip to the Safari Zone. She's a crafty little Pokémon, which is sometimes good for me but not when she pranks me, the team, or anyone else really.

Ohm (♀) the Flaaffy: An old man working at the Day Care on Route 117 just gave me an egg 4 years ago and Ohm was the Mareep that ended up hatching. She's on the sterner side of things, but not hostile.

Jet (♀) the Fletchling: I noticed that as a Fire type specialist I have a lot of Electric types so I searched for a member of the Fletchling to tip the scales back to Fire. I caught Jet very recently, but her battle-hunger’s already on full display, especially when she wants to battle Day.

Other facts about me:

I'm 5'8", have black hair and brown eyes, and slightly tan skin.

I'm nearsighted as the planet is large. I don't like it, but it's not too bad when I have my glasses.

Temple of Truth Episode 4#8 Transcript

Monday, August 6th, 2063

Transcript:

Hello, Truthers. Thanks for tuning in. We’re going to skip our usual introductory report because we have something really, really big to share. After years of making this show, this is probably the most important episode we’ve ever made. Truthers, we found the Deltas. Me, Ohm, and some co-investigators tracked down exactly who and where the Deltas have been coming from. And guys, it’s so much bigger than we ever imagined. Almost every corp is involved in this. I don’t even know how to start, so let’s start at the beginning.

Thanks to some tips on our forum from Truthers yewandthefoe and tardigrant, our team decided to check out a place called Disco Days. It’s a nightclub in the Combat Zone owned by Councilmember Nyx Nasir. There’ve been rumors of people going missing after visiting the club. Some people have popped up again weeks later, but they’ve seemed different. Yeah, exactly like a Delta would. On our first visit, we definitely noticed that something strange was going on. The floor of the bathroom sounded hollow, like there was another room below it. But we couldn’t stay long enough to figure anything else out.

For our next visit, we took an extra precaution: we brought weapons with us, and we all wore trackers in case one of us went missing. And sure enough, our friend Mindy Nox disappeared almost as soon as we got there. Her tracker led us into the sewers, until the signal went dark. We followed some strange signs in the sewers until we reached a door. And you’ll never guess what the code to the door was: Danger Gal.

We entered the door and found a warehouse. There, we had to fight one of the Danger Gals, until they ran away into the sewers. We found Mindy locked up and drugged, as well as one of the people working with Danger Gal. But it gets even worse. We found records with the names of people who had gone missing and which corp Danger Gal had sold them to. There were surgery tables for cyberware installations. After looking around and later interviewing the person we caught in the warehouse, we learned the truth: Danger Gal has been kidnapping people, reprogramming them, chroming them up, and selling them to corps for the last 15 years. Danger Gal has been making the Deltas. They’re the ones who took our friend and countless other people.

But it doesn’t end with them. They were using Disco Days because Nyx Nasir was in on the operation—and profiting greatly from it. Danger Gal has largely been targeting middle managers at corps who can give trade secrets to competitors, so they’ve sold to corps like Continental Foods, Petrochem, and Zeratech. They’ve also made people into soldiers for Militech and Lazarus. This is what I meant earlier when I said this is bigger than any of us imagined: it’s not just Danger Gal making the Deltas; all these corps are participating in it. They’re turning regular people into mindless clones for the sake of their own profits. Before all this, Ohm and I had thought that the Deltas were being made by just one of the corps, or two at most. This goes way beyond that. More than ever, all you Truthers listening need to be vigilant. If you know anyone who works at these corporations or has been to Disco Days, they could be in danger—or they could already be compromised. It’s possible this was only one part of a larger operation, so Danger Gal—or anyone else they were working with—could still be snatching people. Follow the safety tips for dealing with Deltas that we’ve given you guys in the past: keep quiet, keep away, and get out of there if things start going south.

But there is good news. For the first time, the authorities are actually taking the risk of Deltas seriously. I’m sure many of you all listening know that cops never listen when Truthers try to tip them off about these things. In this case, though, the warehouse was so full of evidence, including someone actually making Deltas, that the cops couldn’t ignore it. They’re working on a case against Danger Gal right now, and hopefully Nyx Nasir and the client corps will be next. This is a huge step for actually taking action against the Deltas. Also, this case is pretty high-profile, so now more Night City residents will learn about the Deltas. All those distrusting neighbors and judgmental family members that you guys have mentioned on our forums will finally understand the dangers that we’ve been trying to warn them about.

We now know more about the Deltas than ever before. For years, Ohm and I—along with you all listening at home—have been trying to figure out not just who is doing this, but why. We’ve had a lot of theories, but we now have a clear answer. Danger Gal was making the Deltas to support the cannibalizing greed of the corps in Night City. Of course, we still need to figure out how this figures into the larger picture. How do the Gammas relate to this? Are they the ones calling the shots and putting this whole operation in motion? Had the Sisters been warning us about this all along, but we missed the signs? As always, if you have any theories at home, post them on our forum online. It’s thanks to Truthers on our forum that we got this lead in the first place. Ohm and I wouldn’t be able to do this without you guys, or without our friends like Mindy and our co-investigators.

That’s all I think we can get through today. We’ll definitely keep unpacking the details and implications of this discovery for the next few episodes to come. We’ve learned a lot, but we’ve also learned what we have to fear. Good night for now, and remember to look out for each other. It’s the only defense we’ve got.
