Hannibal & Fashion I

How to dress like: Hannibal Lecter (but feminine) > An explanation to the essentials and character of his iconic style.

We all know that Hannibal is nothing short of an absolute fashion icon. His outfits are always perfect, down to the details. He knows how to blend shape, colour and patterns in an old-fashioned yet innovative way like no other. Which is, for many, very refreshing in a world of hoodies and light wash jeans.

For Hannibal's style there are a few key characteristics I had to keep in mind. If I had to describe his style in a few words, I would say it's elegant, sharp, formal, expressive and aristocratic.

All his suits, shirts, trousers, are perfectly tailored. He pays a lot of attention to silhouette and the way his clothes accentuate the lines of his body. His suits have a sharp and intimidating yet smooth and refined shape. The shoulders, trouser-legs and ratio of his ties, waistcoats and lapels are geometric. They are razor-sharp, while around his waist and thighs the suits are much softer. They draw attention to his body. Hannibal is a proud man who isn't afraid to show his good qualities off. His body is one of those and isn't afraid to get his clothes perfectly fitted, so that they reveal everything and nothing at the same time.

Hannibal isn't afraid to incorporate feminine touches into his outfits, so I imagine if it were to be the other way around, there would have to be traditionally masculine touches like suits, overcoats and old school uniform-ish aspects.

So, if you want to copy his silhouette, it's important to work with the ABAB ratio, as I like to call it. Wide at the shoulders, tight at the waist, wide at the hips and slim from legs down. The contrast between a refined waist and a top that's big, pointy or puffy around the shoulders is perfect.

Hannibal's look is all about elegance and generational wealth and standard (he is a count, after all). In his day-to-day outfits we often see him incorporate traditional, royal details in his outfits. He wears all kinds of top quality fabrics (loads of great wool, linen, silk/satin for his ties, velvet and even leather). Texture is very important in his style. And so is detail. At operas, fancy dinner parties and other elite gatherings we often see him wear cufflinks, which are beautiful pieces of jewelry that still have a masculine feel and can be worn even by men who usually don't wear accessories. At one dinner party Hannibal wears an ASCOT TIE! (second picture above) Which is really revolutionary, because even though they were very common with the aristocracy and other high society in the late 19th century, almost no one wears them anymore, let alone styles them right. Hannibal however takes these pieces and makes them WORK.

If you translate this to key aspects for your style, at first looking for high quality fabrics is important. They are more expensive (most of us are not anywhere near Hannibal's budget range), but they are worth it because they make you more conscious of what you buy and will still be good pieces after years. As I mentioned, go looking for wool, silk, linen, etc.

Also, what would a Hannibal Lecter inspired wardrobe be without patterns? My top picks would be: pinstripe, monochrome plaid, subtle houndstooth, and of course classic floral patterns or even paisley like his ties! Anything that looks like a Victorian era wallpaper will work, to be honest. (Our king of classy patterns)

The cufflinks and dramatic ties made me come to the conclusion that a more feminine variant of that would be elegant and noticeable yet fitting jewelry. A statement bracelet or necklace, for example. The same goes for bows and neck scarves. A bow or a neck scarf could be a good solution if you're not a fan of ties. (Neck scarves are amazing, I own multiple in different patterns and they can make the most plain outfits interesting!)

Hannibal wears a lot of very formally appropriate clothing, even in his casual outfits. Despite his style being 'exotic' and noticeable, it still is very neat and modest. He wears suits and nice long sleeve shirts always buttoned to an appropriate point even during summer. You would never catch him in shorts. Some people compare the way S3 Alana dresses to the way they imagine Hannibal would dress if he was a woman, however, I think that Alana dresses too bold for Hannibal. Her colour palette is too bright and she wears a lot of lacey, almost lingerie-ish tops. Hannibal's palette contains more muted colours. A lot of different colours and patterns, yes, but they are always in muted/darker shades. Even the whites and light browns he wears aren't really ''light''. The only thing really vibrant I remember him wearing are his beloved, spotless white shirts.

Inspo:

So, personally I'd go with longer skirts or straight leg/slim trousers. Not too wide. Suit jackets that don't reveal too much and slim and notable but appropriate shirts. Maybe a turtleneck here and there. Nothing Hannibal wears is really ''baggy''. When he is wearing a looser shirt he pairs it with well fitted pants (the cooking scenes). There's always balance.

Don't wear obvious logos! Yes, Hannibal wears loads of luxury brands, but you would never catch him buying a Gucci tie that actually has the Gucci logo on it. Brands can cheapen the look of a product, despite popular beliefs. And plus, with Hannibal it's all about the piece of clothing itself, not about the tag it comes with.

There's a few small and specific things that you should 100 percent incorporate in your wardrobe if you want to dress like him, which are:

A pair of nice leather gloves

A white button-up

Leather shoes (oxfords, loafers, anything with a classic academic and italian feel to it. There's plenty of beautiful loafer heels on the market, I own a vintage italian pair and they're the most comfortable heels to ever walk in)

A good knit sweater for casual wear! Brandless, though Ralph Lauren has some that really fit the vibe

A classy watch with a slight vintage yet modern feel

And a transparent murder suit of course, but I suggest you are a little more careful buying that ;)

Colours are also quite interesting. Go with a lot of deep, jewel-toned colours. Loads of greys, browns and whites, but not too much black. Try to stick to deep greens, royal blues, burgundy & wine. A lighter pop of colour such as light blue, coral or purple are also appreciated, as long as precise thought has been put into the colour palette. Colour theory works in clothes, too!

Before we round it all up, I would like to talk about his truly formal looks, as well. I'm talking opera and such.

It's nothing other than social etiquette for a man to wear a tuxedo to a black/white tie event. Opera and high-class parties often automatically classify as one of those. Hannibal is a man of etiquette, he wears his tux. However, it's the details that make him stand out. When everyone else wears black, he wears deep blue or green velvet. He wears mother-of-pearl cufflinks on french cuffs and patterns on his (bow)ties. His truly formal style is minimal, but still special because of the fabrics and details he choses. He makes sure there's always these little elements that make him stand out from the crowd.

So, if you were to imagine this in the form of dresses, you should go for dresses that are minimal in details, but classy and a little vintage in shape. Maybe a jewel as detail here and there, but it's mainly about the fabric and the shape. About an asymmetrical neckline, an unusual way of draping, gloves, just something extra. Don't go for anything too sexy or revealing. Instead go for chic and sleek, maybe bare shoulders and no straps. This draws attention to the collarbones instead of the breasts. Look for dresses that expose, for example, your neck or your arm. It makes an outfit classy and mysterious.

No matter how good his clothes look on him, Hannibal's style will never not feel a little out of place in modern society. Because honestly, who (except for Parisians and New Yorkers) wear such formal three piece suits to get groceries? Hannibal's style feels a little too vintage, a little too royal, and a little too pretentious to not be noticed on the street, but then again, Hannibal likes standing out. He isn't a trend follower, he's a trend setter. He has his own personal style and what he wears only makes him more charming of a personality. He's a fashion muse, certainly in his circle of highly cultured friends. So, don't be afraid to draw attention! I like to think that Hannibal and Oscar Wilde share the same opinion on overdressing: which is that you can never be too overdressed or overeducated. One of the most important aspects of Hannibal's style is that he doesn't follow the mass. He wears what he feels best in, and his clothes reflect the confidence and power that comes with that.

So, dress stately! Dress elegant, dress like you're a member of the royal family, take that button-up you reserve for special occasions and make it a daily statement! The most important thing when dressing like Hannibal is confidence. Your clothes are a way to show off your style, intellect and originality to the world, because we all know Hannibal is far less intimidating in his prison jumpsuit than his own clothes ;)

the thought process talk got a little long, see more under the cut!

the main inspiration was honestly her beehive and the hand fans in the ambassador engraving and then i ran with it :) was looking at her and thinking that her design is so distinct its fairly easy to keep recognizable (for anyone curious, its the beehive, headband, mod dress, square neckline, belt)

the first design is based off spy films! the ambassador was an incredibly strong influence . i would not call this a masc look by any stretch of the imagination but i was aiming for relatively more masc . i was somewhat inspired by james bond i think? but its not too unique of a look . it can be any spy . it could even be tf2 spy! which is why she has a matching belt and watch

a bit of a relic of the past (as in ideas on the cutting room floor) is that her sleeves are so puffy because i was considering having her dress be made of a shiny material and i like how light looks on scrunchy shiny material :)

the fans say bang because i think it would be incredibly funny to snap them open . dont worry about the blood . i was planning for her to have a gun strapped to her leg but theres no space for it, unfortunately :(

the second is the result of challenging myself to vary her dress a little more while keeping the same silhouette . its not too exciting in changes construction wise! but the back cutout is because i love rendering skin and if the angle permits it then... i was leaning more into the mod dress look with the patterning this time around, its a lot lighter this time around in colors because i deserve more fun coloring this time around! tossed in yellow as the popular accent color of choice .

james bondage is far less inspired whoops . the plan was more or less "i want to make him look like an expensive cat" . the leather harness was realizing i have got to capitalize off the bondage part . i do not know how to feel about the wearing it over a jacket that big

with james bondage i went pose first, then clothes, then clothes on the pose. which is to say, this outfit is probably more exciting without the jacket . whoops!

Refreshed their design and reference sheet a tiny bit :] Still unsure about the pupils, but we'll see if I keep them. They're meant to be barely visible anyways so I can just not draw them if I don't feel like it

ID start: A reference sheet for a human version of The Hollow Knight/Pure Vessel from Hollow Knight. Most of their skin is pitch black save for their white face, which has freckles and a small mole under their left eye. Their skin turns black right under their bone cheeks, and combined with their horns makes their face resemble the shape of their mask in-game. Their white hair is long and kept in a high ponytail. Their long bangs almost completely cover the right side of their face. On the left side of the reference sheet there are some close-up of their body parts and text describing the following traits: They're digitigrade, with long elf ears, sharp claws, and teeth with two sets of fangs, three spurs on the back of their forearms, a short spiky tail and almost pitch black eyes with only a small dark blue pupil visible. They have no true tongue and use void tendrils as a substitute. When shined on, their pupils widen and get brighter. They're wearing a white shirt with frilly popped up collar and frilly puffy sleeves ending with cuffs, and the sleeves have buttons around the spikes on their arm to make it easier to put on. The shirt is embroidered with various light blue and red floral patterns on the shoulders and around the collar. They're wearing dark blue pants with a blue cloth belt tied to the lest side and black leather shoes modified for their digitigrade stance. Behind their left ear, they have a small white flower with a pink hand red centre and two small green leaves. you've always found dokyeom's tendency to be shy around new people endearing, loving the way he tries extra hard to be friendly and upbeat. you think it's silly, of course, because you have never met a person who didn't fall in love with him the second they met him. he has no problem making a conversation flow with a stranger, although he second guesses himself every time. he's been invited to a fashion week fashion show as a brand ambassador, and he's thrilled about it. the event is finally happening, and his nerves kicked in right before we arrived. "it feels so weird without the guys here'", he kept saying. he would balance it out with saying "i'm really excited to talk to all the carat's though" with his infamous smile. you're excited for him to talk to them too, you love watching him do his thing. he's always so immensely grateful and filled with radiance. 

we walk onto the carpet together, where most of the interviews and introductions take place before everyone settles in for the show. dokyeom's been fiddling with his fingers the whole car ride here, seemingly distracted and in his head. as an extrovert yourself, he's told you countless times how happy he is to have you here in moments like these, as you help him come out of his shell. he looks damn good tonight though, and he has to know it. his proportions are just right, his patterned shirt tucked into leather pants, squeezing his legs in all the right places. a puffy leather jacket sits on top of it all, pulling the look together. if he wasn't so nervous, you would have been all over him already. 

he's already been greeted by a lot of people, making casual small talk and introductions. some carat's are line up on the outskirts of the carpet. dokyeom doesn't hesitate to go over to them. you watch as he interacts with them, signing their albums and taking selfies with them. he giggles softly at their jokes and talks to them as if they have been friends forever. you, of course, can still tell he's shyer than usual as you watch his body language. he blushes occasionally, feeling all the attention on him. you watch him proudly as he walks over to you after meeting with them all. when he gets to you he sighs a sigh of relief, shaking off the anxiety and collecting himself. 

"you're doing so good baby" you encourage. you reach up to run your hand through his hair, but stop when you remember that it's been done and placed exactly where it should be. you bring your hand back down, saying "sorry, it's really hard for me to not do that" you admit sheepishly.

he smiles down at you, thinking about how he doesn't know what he would do if you weren't here with him. 

"i know, i wish you could do it too" he states, kissing your forehead. your cheeks heat up at the act as you look up at him. once again, you are hit with his beauty. you don't know how someone could be so beautiful. 

"you're so beautiful" you speak, hoping he truly understands. 

he stares back down at you, watching you look up at him with doe eyes. he could melt. 

"thank you, sweet girl" he smiles, butterflies in his stomach at the compliment. "but you" he says, taking one of your hands, "look absolutely stunning". he holds your hand up above your head and makes you spin around, smiling at you as you giggle at him.

and he means it, you do look absolutely stunning. your red dress hugs you everywhere it should be, flowing down to the floor with a high slit exposing your leg. if he hadn't been so nervous, he would have been all over you already. 

"i am so lucky" he breathes out, more so muttering to himself, but you hear it anyway. you can't hide your smile. sometimes you don't know how you don't just combust with happiness every time you're in his presence. 

eventually he's taken away from you, pulled to the side for a little interview. you stand off to the side with his manager, watching from behind the person filming. it's a simple instagram video, but the woman interviewing is doing way too much. she's gorgeous, and she knows it. she's shamelessly flirting with him, and it honestly kind of makes you laugh at first. i mean, you can't blame her. dokyeom shifts uncomfortably on his feet, feeling awkward after it goes on for a while. he stays polite and happy, answering everything straight to the point. he looks over at you briefly, shooting you a quick smile. you give him a goofy thumbs up back, making him relax. the lady doesn't give up though. she asks a question completely unrelated to the show, something about relationships and if he's single. you see him try to hold back his laugh at the nerve she has. 

"actually, my wonderful girlfriend y/n is here with me tonight. i'm really happy she's here and i would be nowhere without her support" he answers honestly, smiling ear to ear. you blush as everyone around turns to look at you as hide behind his manager, making him chuckle. 

the interviewer looks at you, literally eyeing you up and down. you smile at her with a sarcastic smile, one you know another women would catch immediately. you send her a quick wave, you swear she rolled her eyes. she ends the interview quickly, having no interest anymore. you have the best boyfriend ever. truly. he starts to walk back over to you, and you notice two girls checking him out as they pass. they giggle to themselves as they walk by, saying a quick hello to him. he says hi back, shooting them a smile and they walk away giggling even louder. you cross your arms and pout, noticing him walk towards you with a raised eyebrow.

"can you stop being so hot and sweet and lovely? every girl here is falling in love with you" you huff, not knowing you had the ability to be this jealous. 

dokyeom chuckles softly, smiling at your words. he finds it cute, actually. you don't usually get jealous, and he would be lying if he said he didn't kind of like it. to be honest, he's been looking at you all night, still stunned by how good you look. he hasn't noticed too much of what else was going on, besides the creepy interview lady.

"is somebody jealous?" he smirks, moving in closer to you, taking advantage of this moment.  

"yes, yes i am actually" you pout, still keeping your arms crossed. 

he just smiles at you. he uncrosses your arms and holds your hands in his, leaving a light kiss on your pouted lips. 

"i'm all yours baby, hmm?" he hums, placing a hand on the small of your back and pulling you into him until you're pressed firmly against him. he keeps a hand on your waist, rocking you both back and forth slowly.

all you can do is nod quickly, feeling shy all of a sudden at how speechless and riled up his words left you. you know your face is red hot, and you bury it into his chest before he can see. you were too late though, as he caught it right away. before the words even came out he knew you would react that way. he chuckles as you hide your face, squeezing your hip lightly. 

"baby" he hums softly into your hair, trying to get you to look up. 

you place your hands on his waist now, peeling your head away from the comfort of his chest. you look up at him, waiting for what he has to say.

"i love you" is what he lands on, smiling wide as he says it. 

you stand up on your tip toes, pecking his lips before saying "i love you too".

Here’s a little project I worked on last year, but kinda, forgot to post? It’s a fake Red shoes art book spread for Edda! The composition, and art styles used, is mainly based on Snow White first page, and Arthur's second page from the actual art book, including of course the artist featured in them (aka Jeon Mi-jin (전미진) who drew the art that the art on the first page and the drawing to the top right on the second page is based on, Kim Sang-jin (김상진) aka Jin Kim who drew the art that the first drawing and the four lower drawings in the second page are based on, and Choi Minjeong (최민정) who drew the the art that the top middle drawing on the second page is based on.) (I had to use Google translate to get the names in the Latin alphabet, so I apologise if there’s any mistakes, I tried to keep the Korean name order for all the names, with the exception of Jin Kim.) [EDIT: I took a closer look Arthur’s first page today and realised that it served as a bigger inspiration for the first page that I drew then I remembered when first posting this, so shout out to that page as well which have two drawings made by Jeon Mi-jin and Choi Minjeong respectively.]

If you’ve been around for a bit you might also notice that two of the drawings on the second page are redraws of older sketches, which I mostly did as a fun treat for myself, since I find redrawing old art pretty fun. I also took this opportunity to give Harriet’s clothes a small makeover, taking some inspiration from Snow herself, a bit from the shapes of Drottning Kristinas gowns (like the drape around her shoulders and how puffy their arms are, and the general shape of the collar), and most likely from looking at details of other dresses I can’t recall at the moment (I do specifically remember looking up images of historical lace collars to get an idea of how they could look, but I don’t remember if I looked at a specific site or what sites I could have looked at in that case). I tried to keep it relatively simple with some spots for details, but looking at it now I’m not entirely sure how well it would fit the movies vine fashion wise (both Regina’s and Snow’s dresses both feel pretty modern to my amateur eyes looking at the cuts and shapes), then again I guess I can always say that the fashion is different kingdom to kingdom I suppose.

Also small shout out to Kay @the-moonlightknight who was someone who helped years ago to actually put words to Eddas personality back when I had to make a reference sheet for a discords event, which is the reference I went back to and used small parts of when writing the text for the first page.

The Scarlet Court is a Standard court, ruled by the Scarlet Lord, Haemoarachni. a cunning and intimidating god of blood. Most hold a respectful fear of her. She is rather uncanny to be around and look at. Her form being that of a porcelain casing, filled with… supposedly cardiac tissue. Her empty cold mask makes it hard to tell what she is feeling, only with a gingerly, red lipped smile upon it. She has clear tubes pumping blood all over her body, connecting to the grim explode heart on her chest. If one is queasy towards the biological, she would be your worst nightmare. She is stern but sly. She has much wit to her and even a sense of Humor, usually a bit cruel and unfeeling Humor but Humor nonetheless. She is well liked in her court. The scarlet courtiers find her to be a cunning respectable figure, in awe of her genius. Yes some find her a bit scary and uncomfortable, especially with her influence having a strange sickening physical awareness, but it’s only natural. Her courtiers are passionate people. Boisterous. Theatric. Crass humor and sharp wit is their cup of tea. Rather chaotic in their reasonings and can be considered quite reckless. The navy courtiers would deem so, holding a strong hatred against scarlet courtiers for their brash and “savage” ways. The Scarlet Court is the heart of all that is medicine. Biological research, study of medicine, healing, and a drive to understand the body all they can. They idolize the biological, anatomy and blood rule their ideals.

Their medicine and expertise on such is valued throughout phangoria. There aren’t many big organizations of medicine in other courts, as if there is an unspoken rule that scarlet courtiers must fill in that space. And they do their job well. Some are a bit… suspicious of them. Some things seem to lineup on in their moral on times. Many scarlet courtiers have become desensitized by the idea of illness and death. Sometimes illness is valued. Bodies are taken, with cases of people falling purposefully sick under their terms, it has never been fully investigated nor anything exactly found, so it’s mostly a simple case of medical ferver. (think the heroic period of medicine) theatre is as well a large part of their culture. Everything in one way or another is a show. A spectacle. They love to be centre-stage, making what they do entertaining and boisterously grand. It is even common to see live dissections and surgeries paired with opera performances and shows. It’s a strange novelty in the court. They are no doubt passionate people. They do what their desire guides them to do, reckless with their push to simply jump for what they want and risk it all. (They may feed into the navy courtian idea of their “savagery” at times) They are as well famously close with the Olive Court. There is no stronger bond between courts than Olive and Navy. Perhaps because of the close relationship the Scarlet Lord holds with the Olive Lord, Terranji. There are many designated trade routes and migrating laws that allow for scarlet courtiers to more easily get into Gliao, and vice versa for Coureich. There are many cultural exchanged between the courts, their foods, their medicine, even some of their holidays are celebrated between eachother.

They are often regarded for their Stalkers. skilled hunters trained professionally not only in the extermination, but research of Leech Demons. The strange, enigmatic creatures that have been feeding on their people for centuries. They are feared, yet respected, having such swift, silent kills that people have assumed that they’re some sort of secret police disguised as “hunters” (no evidence has been found) They form the orginization called the “Stalker’s Guild” a conglomerate of the hunters, where those who wish to become one can be registered and set off. There is records kept only to their eyes about leech demons. The public are still very eluded by their existence.

Region: Cuoreich (cure-ike) is a fairly temperate place. Not too hot, not too cold. Yet the courtier’s themselves take no liking to the sunlight, similarly to the Violet Courtier’s. Their lands are filled with the richest red forests, seeming to stay autumn. In tandem with the red trees, they have a rich fungal system ; mushrooms thrive in their temperate moist forests. The leech demons take liking to their lands, the fungal systems being moist and easy to grow disease and fester. Their cities and towns have a rich homely feeling. Instead of tall looming cathedrals and gloomy cities, they have wooden mansions. Red forest towns are cluttered with decadent, aristocratic homes decorated with reds and medical memorabilia. Their cities have a somewhat warm feeling whenever one steps foot in, each homely cobblestone street lined with warm gaslit lamps. Even more interesting is that Cuoreich has more time spent with blood moons than any other court, which drenches the place in a warm red glow making the already red trees seem like rich velvet.

roots: Is your OC's look inspired by any specific style of clothing or fashion trend? What are the roots and/or inspiration for their look?

So! Besides the Total Fantasy Bullshit elements like his black leather armor and the Highlander peacock cloak fit (top left), Athren's style is primarily influenced by European fashions between 1550-1600, which in England was the Elizabethan era. My biggest inspo sources:

Besides the fact that I just personally like this fashion era a lot, I was inspired by how Waterdhavian nobility are portrayed in module art! Victoro Cassalaner's ruff and giant bloomers feel very Elizabethan-inspired.

glance: At first glance, what stands out most about your OC's appearance? What's their distinguishing feature?

The signature thing about most of Athren's wardrobe is the silhouette: a padded, structured doublet; puffy bloomers; and hose.

I imagine the overall effect of this is like... okay, in the Athren & Adinar reconciliation scene I just wrote, Athren is wearing a beautifully tailored suit and vest with a coordinated tie and pocket square, and Adinar is in jeans and a t-shirt.

motion: How does your OC move? How does their clothing help or hinder their range of motion? Are they flexible, coordinated, clumsy?

In a fight, Athren is graceful, but also fast, shifty, and furtive. Affectionately, lizard-like. But a lizard with panache. (Guy who takes the dash action a lot!) The light leather armor he wears is practical for his duelist style. Absolutely nothing Athren wears is practical for demonstrating his (excellent) flexibility. Tbh Athren's daywear does hinder his range of motion but he's willing to be mildly uncomfortable for the sake of fashion.

texture: Does your OC favor any specific kinds of cloth or textures? Is there anything they can't wear or don't like? What sort of fabrics do they prefer?

Favorites: Silk and velvet, absolutely. Silk damask in particular, for the kinds of rich patterns he likes. Does not enjoy being cold but DOES enjoy winter, so prefers heavier fabrics. Doesn't like: whatever scratchy, low-quality linens and spider silks his old uniforms were probably made of.

favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?

Is it any surprise that it's his sunglasses? They're his signature accessory! They look fantastic and they protect his eyes from the miserable fucking sun. They were actually a recent purchase just before the Floon/Renaer rescue that kicked off Dragon Heist. They're brass but he recently got them gold-plated using that sweet, sweet, heist money.

LoZ: TotK - Champignon Corsair Set

Here's a set that I think might go well with the Cece hat. (So long as you get rid of the hair & makeup.)

A white frock coat that reaches down to the ankles with a Cece Brand mushroom patterned border at the bottom & gold detailing. White musketeer shirt with gold-lined ruffled sleeve cuffs, the ruffled cuffs sticking out from under the frock coat's cuffs. Maybe make the collar resemble the odd gold netting that Cece & Sophie have for their collars & have it stick up past the redingote's collar. Also, a feather to the hat.

High-waisted double-buttoned Victorian breeches. Black ornate men's captain boots with gold Cece Brand buckles; breeches legs tucked into the boots. Lacey white & gold-lined men's cravat with a Cece Brand brooch. Gold Cece Brand buttons. Buttons & brooch resemble the gold Cece applique on the canon hat. Gold hoop pirate earrings with the Cece Brand symbol & a turquoise bead on each. The lace ruffles should match the ruffles on the canon Cece hat & the cravat resembles the lace veil at the back of the hat. Also, puffy mushroom shoulder pads.

Maybe I should add a gilet?

Still got some work to do, but I think I'm almost finished.

I made the redingote more like Swordfighter Peach's, which makes it less likely for Link to get the coat tangled around his legs, too.

Also, 86 the bright pink hypermodern hair that covers the eyes & the blue lipstick. Just let them die in a fire.

Link's natural hair could, instead, be pulled into a stylized Victorian men's ponytail with a leather Viking's hair tie; Cece Brand, of course.

And, finally, maybe give him a thin mustache & goatee like this.

I just feel like something like this would match Cece's ostentatious style while also managing to look classy at the same time. Because the hat when paired with the canon hair & makeup looks like something that a trashy whore with a rich sugar daddy might wear.

I'm not sure what I'd make the effect or the Set Bonus, but I'll think about that later. Maybe something like Mushroom Gatherer, which could allow you to possibly get 2 mushrooms instead of one when you pick them & the more of the set you wear, the higher the chance? Or it could increase the effectiveness of mushrooms when cooking? Also, maybe the Set Bonus could be something like Scimitar Proficiency because Scimitars resemble cutlasses?

I think I have it.

Set Bonus: Swashbuckling Mastery (one-handed swords deal more damage, increased speed when weilding a one-handed sword, easier dodging, & faster Flurry Rush; weilding Scimitars doubles this effect)

Secret Abilities: Champignier (mushroom chef; increases the effectiveness of mushrooms when cooking), Shroom Duelist (weapons or shields with mushrooms fused to them makes mushroom effect twice as effective or, in the case of attaching it to a wand, spread twice as far), increased swim speed, & increased sail speed.

Secret Abilities being the ones that you have to discover for yourself. Like how the Royal Guard uniform also has increased swim speed despite it not being listed.

Edit: Listen, ya'll seem to be missing the fact that I don't like the original design for the Cece Hat because the hair & makeup are fugly.

Very few people can pull off the blue lipstick look & Link is very much not one of them. Same with the neon pink hair in a weird ass bob that covers the eyes. Put those 2 together & I don't know if there's anyone who'd look good in them.

I mean... it's possible to make that lipstick shade look good on him, but the hair especially makes that difficult to do. Even just keeping his natural hair color would vastly improve the overall synergy of the colors.

This isn't something that I'm saying out of "bigotry." I'm saying it because the pink bob with the lapis lipstick looks more at home on a clown.

I wouldn't even like them on a woman, so if you take this as some sort of slight against crossdressers or men who wear makeup, then that tells me more about how you think of them than what I do.

FYI, I didn't mind the Gerudo Set or the Frostbite Set as much as I do the Cece Hat. Because while I'm not a fan of crossdressing or drag & I think that they were too on the feminine side for what I think looks best on Link, at least they looked good.

Because good aesthetics are good aesthetics no matter what sex you are. And, I hate to break it to you, but not everyone is going to look good in something & there's no changing that. Some people look good in one thing & other people look good in other things. And Link doesn't look good in a bright pink bob & cobalt lipstick.

YESSSSS LET'S GOOOOOO we're doing this in a modern fashion context

Astarion in canon is constantly in puffy sleeves, but I think in a modern context he would have a very sleek, modern wardrobe that shows off his slender, toned physique. Very New York old money style.

Gale cannot escape the curse of the cozy academic, and has comfy sweaters for days. Sometimes sweater vests. Warmer earth and jewel tones suit him best, but whatever button down he's got on under is in desperate need of ironing half the time.

Karlach is a quintessential biker butch, complete with leather pants, distressed denim, and upcycled band shirts made into tank tops. For the gun show. But there's always going to be one cute or quirky little accessory (fun pins, colored gauges, etc.) because she just thinks it's neat.

Lae'zel is a gym goth. When she's not wearing athleisure, she's rocking the most hideous collection of patterns to ever clash.

Shadowheart definitely had a goth phase, and has a lot of goth outfits, but I can see her as being economical in upcycling her wardrobe with DIY and thrifted elements that give pops of color to ultimately make her look like an eclectic lesbian art teacher.

Wyll comes off as the kind of guy that would have athletic normcore but with some street/techwear pieces here or there. His stuff is expensive for casual-looking items but well-loved and has been carefully chosen to suit his body in a way that truly flatters him.

How long has it been since I posted about an OC, let alone one that isn't from my bag of wrestling characters? A couple of years now?

Well, never mind all that. I've been in a strong writing mood as of late (it's more or less just me trying to get back into the hobby again while my schedule is freer than it was a month or so ago) and I thought I'd put down an updated and cleaner version of one of my older OCs; Aoyama Nakazke. The older post for him can be found here, if you have some sort of interest in checking that out.

He used to be solely a Danganronpa OC (and the context of his backstory is still minorly reliant on Hope's Peak being a thing), but I've admittedly fallen out of that genre a little bit as of late (not completely mind you, why else would the sage is still the entire theme of my blog?), so now he's more or less just a general OC that can be put in just about any verse.

Appearance:

Aoyama is a rather short boy with a youthful face; making it easy to mistake him to be younger than he actually is. He has light brown eyes and fair white skin, and styles his dark gray hair into short upswept spikes, with two pigtails tied together with black ribbons. When they’re let down, his hair reaches all the way to his shoulders, though he rarely ever does this outside of his own home or in the middle of a shower. (Small tidbit: he chose the dark color for the ribbons to have them blend in with his hair as much as possible)

Aoyama’s attires for everyday use consists of a long and baggy sleeved, black hoodie jacket that has a puffy interior within it, made to maximize the amount of comfort he can feel. Underneath the hoodie is a maroon shirt patterned with black vertical stripes, with the same design being applied to his socks. His shorts have a similar color scheme, with predominant maroon and black accents around the waist area and the edges of the cloth, and maroon sneakers that are topped with white shoelaces. This is usually his outfit while at his home, or if he plans on playing basketball within the day.

If he’s out and about, he makes the slightest bit of effort to change it up; although not by much, as he tries not to stand out among a crowd and would only really put in this ‘effort’ for someone he likes. This alternative outfit has Aoyama don a crimson and black undershirt with a silver leather jacket, and black pants kept in place with a belt. Both the jacket and his pants have plenty of pockets for him to store items; and more importantly - his hands. He really likes idling with his hands in pockets somewhere.

He also changes his footwear a little, now a simple pair of pure crimson socks and black sneakers with red undertones and laces. Aside from his clothes, he’ll style his hair to make sure his three antennas don’t just pop out, thinking that they look ‘stupid’.

Underneath his clothes is a rather muscly and well-toned build, as expected of someone from his area being a street basketball player and all. There are also a few, not so distinct scars around his torso and back - all a product of his childhood.

Personality: 

Raised in the streets by himself and his talent, Aoyama is a stubborn and humble boy who seeks to get by in life as comfortably as he can. He's generally quiet off the court due to not wanting to really associate with anyone other than those he teams up with, and from a bit of deep insecurity that he isn't really worth more than what his talent can get him. 

His thoughts tend to be a little sarcastic and blunt, sometimes seeping out of his lips and getting blurted out. Aoyama generally tries to avoid anything that’ll start a confrontation though - especially if it’s getting him involved in one.

He's unpretentious and practically his own biggest hater, though he doesn't take well to disrespect, especially physical ones, and it’s likely he’ll instinctively throw a fist right at the source if he gets shoved, pushed around, etc. He's a little clueless when it comes to things like world knowledge and educational subjects, with his lifestyle while growing up playing a major part in that. 

Aoyama is incredibly loyal to those who he considers a friend and resents the idea of turning his back on someone; but his nature and roots as a street kid make it rather unavoidable for him to get in trouble from time to time, which has had him have to solve issues across different groups… at least, in the ways that he best can.

Backstory:

To say that Aoyama hated his childhood would be an understatement; but even so, he knows most of it came to be because he would rather walk through true hell than have to live in a fake heaven with demons.

Aoyama was an accident child by a shaky and collapsing couple in a rural farm close to the edge of Kushiro (an average town/city just north of Hokkaido) - both parents were not only poor but had also began to fall out of love for one another, sending the Nakazkes into a spiraling doom of debt and unwanted parental responsibility. Not having the means nor the funds to abort the child, they gave birth to him and left Aoyama to be raised by his grandparents, who would both shortly pass just before he turned 3 - the year he first started to remember and be conscious of his surroundings. 

Taking Aoyama back with them to their house, his parents began to take their frustrations and misery of their situation out on him, blaming him for the fact that they keep spending money because of him. Whenever he was at school, he didn’t have many friends; and his short stature and endearingly innocent face as a kid made him an easy target for bullies. Yet whenever he would fight back, he’d get punished as if he started the trouble itself. It didn’t help that he could never focus on school too - and his grades were ‘passable’ at best. 

Aoyama’s parents would constantly shelter him and refuse to ever let him out of the house, stopping him from eating too much, reasoning that if he gets full, he’ll become sleepy - and that if he became sleepy, he wouldn’t be able to study. After some point, Aoyama’s parents were no longer able to keep affording his tuition, which left his basic education level around merely the 4th grade. It wasn’t until he later got into Hope’s Peak that he was able to somewhat catch up.

Scars left on him by the whips and belts they’d strike him with, cold and heartless words that made him question why he was even alive, and constant hate that boiled and bubbled until he couldn’t take it anymore. After getting splashed with hot water by his father after he was caught trying to go outside and berating him, telling him that he’s wasting his life by trying to make it out of the house and that he’s only going to hurt himself like the idiot he is. Aoyama yells at the both of them, screaming and asking why they’re so mad at him when he never asked to be born, and that they’re saying that he’s wasting ‘his’ life…

When ‘his’ life was never his to begin with, because they’ve been dictating everything he’s been doing since the beginning, and that he hates it here, saying that he wishes he could just leave like they clearly want him to. His mother steps up, slaps him in the face and pulls him by the hair, dragging him back to their house. She tells him if he hates his life here so much, then why doesn’t he pick all his stuff up and leave? Aoyama’s eyes narrow for a second, but he grits his teeth, clenches his fists and storms off to pick up his own stuff. Both of his parents look shocked at the fact that Aoyama seemed absolutely on-board with the idea, but… if he wanted to leave their miserable life, when they knew he’d come crying back later on anyways… they’ll amuse him, they thought.

He never came back. He took a basketball, a stock of his clothes, the very little savings he had, and most importantly… what little money the Nakazke family had left and took it all for himself from his parents’ room and hid it away in a wallet he hid away between his shorts. And Aoyama barged out the door. Then he ran. And ran. And ran. And he just kept running, refusing to ever look back. If he felt thirsty or hungry, he’d buy a drink and a small snack to eat along the way. If he felt sleepy, he’d rest in an alley or a sidewalk under the night sky, using his bag as a makeshift pillow. And if he ever thought he’d want to go back home, he’ll kick himself in the foot and continue to run.

Aoyama didn’t know where he’d go. He doesn’t even know what his old house’s address was; and what side of the country he’d ended up in by then. But as long as it was far away, by himself, he was okay. And if he ever has to make money again so he can keep surviving long enough to prove those two nutcases wrong… he’ll pick up his ball, dribble it and gamble everything he has against another kid. It doesn’t matter if he gets pushed. It doesn’t matter if he gets hurt.

If someone shoves him, he’ll be able to shove them back. If someone tries to trick him, he won’t just look down and let it go. He’ll live. If only to spite them. If only so he never has to go back to them. And there were bumps, losses, moments of thievery and rumbling into street fights that he’d get into along the way. But he kept getting better and better, stronger and tougher, faster and sneakier. His height became a deceit for what was both a natural and honed gift for street basketball - skillful, agile, and a menace on the court that tore through enemy’s defenses and was speedy to the point that getting past him while he was guarding you felt infuriatingly impossible. Building himself from the bottom up, he was able to get scouted for local teams, make a proper wage for himself, a name was created, and soon enough on his phone, a call from prestige he could only peek through from a window had finally reached him.

Extras:

I got asked this a while back on a Discord server, and I thought I'd put it here too - Aoyama isn't exactly interested in romance (ball is life 💯). While he wouldn't say no to having a partner regardless of their identity, he grew up thinking that it's extremely corny and has a bit of a childish perspective, still half-convinced that cooties actually exist. But half the reason for that is because he's pretty socially inept and has trouble with showing and receiving affection outside of the one thing he's good at. The other half is because he doesn't even know what kind of people he's into and is still figuring things out, though he might have a bit of internalized homophobia having grown up in a somewhat conservative environment. It'd just take some convincing.

Aside from the likes listed above, Aoyama's into trap, hip-hop, and video game music. He's also more likely to hang around people that are rebellious and wild, even if he himself isn't a very loud and proud guy. Maybe it's just him wishing he'd have half the confidence they did. Oh, and he's a pretty frugal guy, tending to take the cheapest and most bang-for-your-buck options at almost anything he goes to.

"Is there anything outlandish he might have an interest in?" - Another question I answered on a server I used to be in. There might be one, actually! I gave it some thought, and I think he has a slight repressed fascination in cosplay! While he himself would never want to wear flashy clothing out in the open, thinking that it'd look ridiculous and cringey; ironically enough, he'd be open to trying it on by himself and pretending to be another person! That... stems from a bit of his insecurity about his own image (physically and mentally), but that is one thing someone who's close with him wouldn't expect for him to be drawn to. He'd probably isolate himself in embarrassment if you ever find out though, so maybe it's best you never find out about that.

ohhh!!! Thank you i’ve actually given this a lot of thought!

As a whole, Jack prefers to swing more on the masculine side, as both her and janna. Her three main colors are green, blue (jack) and red (janna).

First I’m gonna do her enchanted forest wardrobe. Leather pants, lace up in the front boots, puffy white shirts and lace up vests to make the shirt less flowy. No jewelry as a EF! Jack. She almost never wears capes since she doesn’t easily get cold but when she does their pretty fancy, with the same embroidering as her belt. Her belt that her sword is on is very garish, it’s thick black leather and is embroidered with a line of leaves. Almost no dresses here, except when they go to camelot to blend in, and most of those are simple and moveable, with the exception of her gown from the ball, but she still wins a sword fight in it, so.

Onto Janna, or cursed!Jack. First thing you’ll see her in is her uniform for waitressing at Granny, a white button up shirt, usually short sleeve, a red pleated skirt, white ankle socks, black mary jane’s and a short apron (janna is not a fan. jack even less so.). Personally, Janna likes non-distressed jeans, short sleeve shirts, occasionally solid color but she prefers patterns like circles and stripes, maybe one plaid shirt. She owns leggings but hardly wears them. She also wears her school uniform (think navy blue and white skirt and cardigan) which Janna’s ambivalent to (jack hates it)).

Once the curse is broken, there’s really no place to get new clothes from so Jack has to wear her Janna clothes. She distresses jeans and layers tops. She’s a big fan of adding little pins, even literal pins to make the clothes feel more like hers. As she grows and comes to peace with the Janna parts of her she stops most of these alterations or severely cuts them back. And if she wants new clothes she must steal from her loved ones 😊
