Pride Doodles 2024!
Most of these are based off of real things I saw when me and my husband went to a pride faire this year, with my own goofy OCs as inserts. I'm going to talk about that a little bit and what it meant for me under the cut, but if you're just here for the art, all you need to know is: shoutout to that samoyed with the rainbow-dyed tail I saw.
So in order to really put into perspective as to why this pride event in particular was so meaningful to me (though, if you, reading this, are queer yourself, I'm sure the feeling isn't unfamiliar to you), let me give you a little bit of backstory. I live in rural Indiana, which is a statement in of itself. Last year I was unable to attend any pride events because me and my husband were getting married in June and, as you can imagine, being a bride the month leading up to such an event is an extremely busy time, lmao. If we could have fit it into the schedule I'm certain we would have, but it was just not possible at the time. Usually, I attend some sort of pride event every year.
Additionally, my husband's family is.. not the most supportive. I am bisexual and genderfluid, as well as demisexual (though this is not public knowledge in my real life, I'm not exactly closeted about it, I just don't bring it up a lot) and questioning polyamorous (which me and my husband are closeted about). Many members of his family regularly and casually use homophobic slurs (as well as racial ones) but his grandmother in particular is the main issue. When I first started dating my now-husband I was very forthcoming with the fact that I am genderfluid and this resulted in her somehow managing to find a way to steer the conversation into political debates surrounding trans people (trans people in sports, HRT, etc) every single time me and her interacted without fail. She has since at least slowed down about this, but highlights of conversations I've had with her since include: A, her questioning whether or not I'm actually bisexual because I've never been physically intimate with a woman (apparently being in a six month long committed relationship with somebody who thought they were a woman at the time [they're out as a trans man now] is not "bisexual enough"), B, her consistently pressuring me to dress more "feminine" because "your husband will like it better," and most recently C, where she made an entire event at dinner in a public restaurant while we were discussing planning to go to this pride faire, arguing that there should be a "straight pride parade" (and my father-in-law, bless his heart, proposed that it was as stupid as saying there should be a white history month, to which my grandmother-in-law vehemently claimed that there should be because "straight white people have been oppressed too"). I physically had to get up and leave the restaurant.
Anyway this is all to say that I was feeling particularly insecure about myself leading up to this event. It was repeatedly hammered into me that who I am was not worthy of acceptance or validation or love and even though I pride myself on being an extremely honest person about who I am and what I believe in, I felt myself repressing those things about myself. My husband has supported me through all of this (and sincerely, to that post about "please don't bring your straight cis male partners to pride," suck my fucking dick) and I cannot thank him enough for his unconditional reassurance that he loves who I am. As a matter of fact his parents were supposed to accompany us to the event but they flaked out on us, and he expressed great disappointment because he knew I was struggling with myself and that his grandmother was being bigoted and hateful and he wanted his parents to express their support by tagging along.
And then we got there.
I saw people flying their flags as capes upon their backs. I saw supportive ally parents walking alongside their kids. I saw service dogs with pride-themed vests. I saw lesbians with hand-knitted crop tops in orange and white and pink and I saw polyamorous couples enjoying each other's presence and I saw a trans woman in bright red mesh clothing and red leather heeled boots. I saw vendors selling vibrators and leather bondage harnesses with gay furry art decaled on the side of the tent and original graphic tees with giant cocks on them and yet no scarcity of asexual flags anywhere. I was offered free healthcare (though unfortunately we had crossed state lines to attend this event so I couldn't take advantage of it) and STI/STD tests and I stopped somebody to compliment their extremely well-made (and cool-looking) fursuit head and somebody else stopped me to compliment my shirt. I saw a guy just strutting down the street with his abs out, I saw amputees, I saw black women with fishnet stockings and pride-themed makeup and at least three pairs of men I'm nearly certain were partners and I felt at home. I was stopped by an older woman, who offered me a "glitter blessing." I asked what that was and she half-explained it to me and I offered her my hand. She put glitter on my hand, and told me I was loved, that I was accepted, that there will always be a place for me, and to never lose my sparkle and I cried right there in the street.
To see so many people come together, to love each other (platonically or otherwise!) unconditionally and to support one another, to craft a safe space for each other and to see people like me, unapologetic and unfiltered.. it meant the world to me. It meant everything to me.
My online friends are extremely supportive of me and my 60+ characters that are almost all unanimously queer. I've expressed insecurity about making so many of them queer, convinced it was redundant or tiring or "shoving it down their throat" and was only met with "okay and? make that bitch gay anyway." I can't thank them enough either, but sometimes you'll always run into that person that will never accept who you are no matter how "palatable" you attempt to make yourself. No matter how many shavings of yourself you lose trying desperately to smooth out the edges to please other people. No matter how much you try to conform.
So.. I've been reminded of something: to be myself. No matter how much I have to kick and claw and bite and gnash, nothing is more important than being myself. Nothing is more important than never losing myself for the illusion of acceptance from people who will never be convinced anyway.
Nothing is more important than never losing my sparkle, one could say. But perhaps that's a little cheesy.
And to anybody that can't publicly celebrate, to people that have to stay closeted for any reason, whether you're in a country that'll kill you for it or a household that'll leave you homeless for it or maybe you're just simply not ready yet, as I've said before; know that you being alive as a queer person is a radical protest in of itself to those who would have it otherwise.
I love you so much. Happy pride <3

Traffic Life Superpowers AU - Ren/Martyn&Cleo
I have posted the second chapter of my superpowers au fanfic called the boogey (click here for the summary on Tumblr)! I have already posted what Tango, Scott, Lizzie, Joel, Etho, Skizz, and BigB's powers/abilities are if you want to look at those, but Martyn, Ren, and Cleo's powers are under the cut! I will be posting more powers for people when they are introduced to the story.
Martyn Littlewood (He/Him) Alter Ego: Knight Status: Human Villain Power(s): In the government database, Martyn is listed as having abnormally increased hearing. In addition to that ability, he can create and manipulate winter-like/aligned things such as ice, snow, frost, etc. but only when he bleeds. No, he doesn't understand it either and no, he doesn't want to talk about how he figured that out. Ren affectionately calls the ability "Red Winter" though.
Fun Fact: I got the idea for his abilities from the whole "Listener" lore thing and him being the start of Red Winter. Yes, it was Ren's death, but Martyn was the one who killed him. It seemed like a cool (haha, get it) ability for him, and there's a sort of charm to Ren being the one to name it.
Ren Littlewood (He/Him/They) Alter Ego: The Red King Status: Dog Hybrid Villain Power(s): Ren has some traits associated with his dog hybrid status, such as dog ears, a tail, and a decent nose for tracking based on scent. He can shift into a dog or a partway dog (think werewolves), usually on command. He typically uses the weredog form when out and about as The Red King because he finds that he performs better that way. It also helps separate his villain identity from his civilian identity.
Fun Fact: Ren has Martyn's last name, you are right, they are married in this fanfic's canon. Yes, I'm also super excited about that. His powers are fairly straightforward- he's literally rendog; what do you want from me? His naming scheme and Martyn's come from Third Life, otherwise known as the season where half the server was homoromantically devoted to their husband teammate.
Cleo Walker (They/She) Alter Ego: Zomblaze Status: Zombie Hybrid Floater Power(s): Cleo has certain features that contribute to her zombie hybrid status such as the following: being able to detach and reattach limbs at will, slow heartbeat, decreased need to breathe, decreased need to eat, high resistance to temperature changes, etc. They are known to carry a lot of gadgets and weapons, with fire/heat-related ones being their favorites and inspiring their alter ego name.
Fun Fact: I am strangely proud of Zomblaze as a name, not gonna lie. Their alter ego name is in reference to their username "ZombieCleo" (as are their abilities) and their tendency to be an arsonist. Cleo's last name is a play off of The Walking Dead, which are basically zombies. I had a list of possible last names so I asked my mom which one I should give a character and she picked the most normal-sounding one. I should have guessed that.

For fun, I decided to make a bunch of Gijinkas for box weapons. I focused on the Vongola Guardianâs weapons here but I did design the Variaâs and some of the Millefiore(mostly the fake wreaths for obvious reasons) too as well as some extras. Iâll put a link to them in this post when I eventually get to them! But these were so fun to do! Vongola || Varia || Millefiore || Misc.
Below the cut is an explanation of my process when designing them.
So first off as you may notice with all of them, I didnât really want to have actual animal parts to them. It tends to feel like cheating at least to me, and I wanted the challenge of figuring out alternate ways of having ears and tails. Additionally of the few gijinkas I had seen of box animals they did seem like they were just. The user but slightly different. I obviously didnât want to go down that route. I mostly wanted to keep their colours shared with the box weapon though in some I had to add in some just for balance. Now letâs get into the specifics!
Natsu Natsu our nervous little guy, I immediately had ideas for. I had to do a hoodie to get that sort of mane, and so he had something to hide if when he gets nervous. I felt Tsunaâs box weapon would probably dress more casually than others even if Natsu is in fact a lion. The hardest part I had with him was the colours, as heâs very brightly coloured so figuring out how to balance that without it being too obnoxious was a challenge. Funny enough the Blue is actually from his helmet, it was actually the black I needed to add for a filler colour.
Uri Uri was a fun one, she felt like she should have more of an edgy design, mostly probably because of his more aggressive personality... and probably because of Gokudera tbh. I thought the best way to incorporate the cat ears was probably the bandana. The chain tail however is my favourite part of this design. It was very hard for me to decide what his colours should be for the exact same reason as Natsu. She has way too many bright colours and in the end I had to break my rule again and add blue for him.
Jiro This one, now Jiro and Kojiro I kind of wanted to be twins in face and have opposite hair to each other. Jiro I had decided would be the more playful of the two, probably due to. Yâknow dog and being the younger Yamamotoâs in the first place. Jiro was actually very easy to design, for the probably obvious reason of the dog was already wearing things. So it was easy to figure out where the colours should go. Though, I do like the bow I made for his curly tail either way.
Kojiro As stated above I wanted Kojiro to be the more serious of the twins(though still just as kind). Mainly because he was the TYL Yamamotoâs first, who was shown to be more serious though still goofy at times. Kojiro being well a swallow meant I needed to figure out how to incorporate his wings and signature split tail into the design, ending up as a bit of a fancier boy than expected with a cape and a tailed suit. Of course I had to make those weird ear things headphones, it just felt right. By the way, getting the colours for this bird was incredibly hard, itâs never not covered in rain flame so I had to eyeball it.
Roll Roll was fun, mostly because thanks to them being a hedgehog that means I get to put a lot of spikes. They genuinely hurt my hand by the end, but anything for this baby I guess. The purples from the belt are actually from their more armored form as I wanted to pull something more reminiscent there without incorporating weird padding into the design. Overall I may have a slight bias on this one due to personal tastes of wanting that jacket.
Mukurowl Now, you probably have questions. Questions such as âWhy is Mukurowl, the one that you could have definitely just made Mukuro, not Mukuro?â Well there is two answers. One is, I did not want to. The second is that the box weapon is literally a rain box weapon that was somehow possessed by Mukuro to become a mist box weapon and later upgraded to be a full mist box. I really wish I knew how that worked but thatâs not something we can answer here. Of course, I felt with him being possessed he would probably hide the eye a bit more than Mukuro does now which is why the long swipe of hair over his face, and just a little bit of a touch of Mukuro hints otherwise with the long ponytail that the TYL has. Otherwise I just went with the vibes that he would be a fancy man with sleeves that are wings and a suit that drapes nicely into a tail. I was worried there was too much white as I was colouring but I think it looks good now.
Gyuudon Oh Gyuudon was a hard one, for many reasons. 1. Heâs a bull, just a straight up Bull with armour. 2. He is an almost completely black bull, this did not leave a lot of colour options. So there was a bit of a struggle, Eventually I decided I wanted him to look like he was ready for combat, but not exactly an aggressive force despite that. Large and intimidating of course but someone whoâs more defensive. So there was some armour and a bullet proof vest like elements incorporated for that. I didnât wanna go fully armoured because at a certain point he may look more like a storm trooper or a knight which while neat felt overkill in comparison to the rest. Also a friend offered that maybe he should have a nose ring and honestly I canât say no to a neat piercing.
Gyaruu Now Gyaruu in comparison, oh did I immediately have ideas for her. It helped she already had some things to add to the design but otherwise there was a lot of freedom. Of course I needed to have a more sporty design due to the boxing gloves that came with and not just because of Ryohei. The tied jacket becoming her tail and the bandages on her head being her ears were fun little things for me to figure out what I could use without treading over what the other designs already had.

Dickheads of the Month: October 2023
As it seems that there are people who say or do things that are remarkably dickheaded yet somehow people try to make excuses for them or pretend it never happened, here is a collection of some of the dickheaded actions we saw in the month of October 2023 to make sure that they are never forgotten. Â
Fascist pitbull Suella Braverman seemed to alternate her time at the Tory conference between standing on the tail of a blind man's guide dog and delivering a speech that was less a dogwhistle and more a foghorn that would have even deafened even Enoch Powell - and for bonus optics, we had Greater Manchester Police operate as conference security to kick out Andrew Boff the second he rolled his eyes as Braverman's drivel about "gender ideology" which makes it look uncannily like he was pinpointed as a non-believer before Braverman took to the stage, because the optics of having the gay Chair of the London Assembly dragged out even though he's a member of their party is apparently fine now
It appears that ultra-relatable nice guy Rishi Sunak didn't read the brief about the Welsh Assembly introducing a 20mph speed limit in built-up areas, as the way he is carrying on makes it sound like he's convinced that it covers the whole of Wales up to and including A-roads and motorways, all while he bangs on about a "War on Motorists" that doesn't exist which once again makes it look like 496 people in Uxbridge & South Ruislip hold the balance of power to the entire UK
It apparently did not occur to Tally Gotliv that calling for Israel to drop a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip like so many American alt-right brain vacuums had done so before might have severe repercussions for Israel, starting with the minor issue that a significant chunk of the blast would wipe out Israel and that would be followed on the nuclear fallout affecting Israeli citizens and the political fallout of dropping a nuclear bomb on somebody because a member of Likud who doesn't understand how nuclear weapons work thought it was a good idea
...and then Mark Regev decided to get on the genocide train when he suggested that it wasn't the IDF who bombed a convoy of women and children leaving Gaza but it was, in fact, Hamas who did it in a false flag operation, before disagreeing with the notion that innocent civilians have died due to the Israelis bombing hospitals and apartment buildings
...and joining Regev on the genocide train was Tzipi Hotovely with her claim that there was no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This would be the same Tzipi Hotovely who has previously claimed that Palestine does not exist, hospitals are valid military targets and support banning the marriage of Jews to non-Jews, which begs the question why Kay Burley invited her on
...though it might be a good idea for Luke Akehurst to not tweet things such as claiming that Israel has not violated any human rights laws when they had used white phosphorus on civilians, and when informed of this fact claim that Human Rights Watch must be making it up, as that reflects very badly on Keir Starmer's Labour Party if they have somebody denying the facts in charge of selecting who is permitted to stand as an MP
...and then there was Benjamin Netanyahu posting a statement making references to "children of light" and "children of darkness" which made it even harder to ignore that fact that Netanyahu always seems to wear a black shirt whenever he appears in public
...while we were also treated to Sarah Silverman giving her nuanced take on the situation by saying that Israel had every right to cut off water and electricity to Gaza (contrary to what the United Nations states), and was so determined to stand by her statement that...she claimed she posted it when stoned when the pushback got too great, because who hasn't had a hash brownie and made lengthy Instagram posts defending war crimes?
...although we can thank Tzipi Hotovely for her demonstration of how badly Israel is losing the PR war after her response to a question from Kay Burley about Palestinian civilians being bombed was "Well the British bombed German civilians in Dresden"
...meanwhile it did not take long for Amy Schumer to go from saying she felt scared as a white Jewish woman living in New York while resembling a Cabbage Patch Kid to posting outright islamophobia to her social media accounts
...but she had nothing on Gilad Erdan and his efforts to be an attention-seeking twat, after Erdan and his associates showed up at the UN all wearing gold star badges, because invoking the Holocaust while Israel is bombing hospitals and refugee camps definitely doesn't look disconnected from reality
...and on the subject of being disconnected from reality, at various points the pro-Palestine marches in London have been referred to as "hate marches" by Suella Braverman as if people can't read or hear the rhetoric she routinely uses, while Simon Schama suggested that he isn't a particularly good historian by referring to them as a "weekly Kristallnacht", and finally Rachel Riley decided to stomp into the fray and bring out the the big guns by comparing Jews Against Genocide to "Nazis" after their sit-in at Liverpool Street station - before deleting the tweet as if screengrabs don't exist
It's bad enough the Conservative Growth Group are using the slogan "Make Britain Grow Again" and all the obvious connotations that carries (even before mentioning that Jacob Rees-Mogg and Priti Patel are part of it), but you'd think that they'd be able to work out the hashtag should not read "Make Grow Britain Again", but then again what do you expect from a group who has Liz Truss deliver their keynote speech at the Tory conference?
I'm sure there is a very good reason why Rishi Sunak has not handed over his phone to the Covid enquiry, and it's definitely not him looking to destroy evidence just like proven liar Alexander Boris De Pfeffel Johnson did when he also refused to hand over his phone to the same enquiry
Superb optics from Mark Harper to stand on stage at the Tory conference, which was taking place in a former railway station in Manchester, to announce that HS2 would not be coming to Manchester after all
...followed by Rishi Sunak saying the decision to axe HS2 to Manchester was made the morning of his speech...while the video announcing this which was posted to his Twitter account appears to have been filmed around two weeks before
...and then it turns out Rishi Sunak announcing Network North as some sort of sop had a slight issue: the first that his cabinet or Network Rail had heard of Network North was the moment he announced it during his conference speech
Not only is David Lammy a coward due to his response when asked if he supported Israel moving Palestinians out of north Gaza was to say he hopes to be Home Secretary one day so he would not answer it, but David Lammy also proved himself to be a liar after he claimed that Hamas raped babies
I'm guessing that Susan Hall is the one Sadiq Khan fears is because she baselessly accused him of antisemitism
...although quote why the Jewish Labour Movement responded by saying they saw the exact same thing from Jeremy Corbyn while gleefully boasting that they saw him off, considering at no point did Jeremy Corbyn suggest that any of his political opponents were a threat to the Jewish community. Quite the opposite, in fact
Good news, everyone! Billionaire manchild Elon Musk has had another one of his genius ideas, this time hiding likes, retweets and bookmarks below every tweet - which is his solution to the people paying him monthly to use a free social media platform complaining that their likes have not gone through the roof because they're presumably being blocked on sight
...although billionaire manchild Elon Musk couldn't find a way to hide how he signal-boosted an account which posted an entirely fake story of a bomb near the Pentagon, an account which just so happens to post antisemitic bilge on the reg
...and then billionaire manchild Elon Musk thought it was a good idea to celebrate Indigenous People's Day by...posting the Wikipedia article for slavery and saying that slavery existed for most of human history, somehow believing that a point was being made there
...but then billionaire manchild Elon Musk decided to share his thoughts in the wake of the State Fair of Texas shooting, and those thoughts were democracy doesn't function without armed citizens - which ignores the numerous democracies that function perfectly well without armed citizens, and by complete coincidence those democracies don't routinely experience mass shootings
...but wait! Billionaire manchild Elon Musk had another one of his brilliant ideas, this time charging new signups in New Zealand and the Philippines $1 a year to use the social media platform which had been free to sue for the best part of two decades and claiming that it is a way to combat bots, as if bots hadn't been paying $11 a month to use the platform since one of his other brilliant ideas was implemented regardless of how lunkheaded it clearly was
...though because billionaire manchild Elon Musk is so desperate for attention, just not the sort of attention that makes him look like a clueless dolt, he then decided to make himself the Main Character by stating that he offered Wikipedia $1bn to rename the platform "Dickipedia" because he is just so fucking cool and edgy who definitely isn't trying to turn his followers against a source of verified information - verified information such as his own Wikipedia page, which he hates as it doesn't laud him as a genius 't fawn over him like his paid bots do
...and then billionaire manchild Elon Musk decided to remind everybody that he has no friends and is desperate for approval, what with him responding to a white supremacist kvetching about a statue of Robert E Lee being taken down and melted by saying (and I quote) "They absolutely want your extinction" which is al awful lot of red flags for five words
Content thief SSSniperwolf technically did the unthinkable and created content of her own which didn't feature somebody else playing Overwatch for her. The problem is that content was her doxxing jacksfilms live on her Instagram, and her initial defence was it was all a joke and she didn't even know how to doxx people as if she a.) Doesn't have previous for doxxing people who criticise her and, b.) Her sister w00fie casually bragged on her Instagram that the intention was to intimidate jacksfilms into silence
...so what did Youtube do in response? Sit on their hands for the best part of a week, and then issue a statement trying to both-sides the entire incident as if SSSniperwolf hadn't broken California law or anything, which looked especially good on Youtube's end given by that point old videos of SSsniperwolf asking underaged kids to twerk and strip for her were being unearthed, which funnily enough wasn't mentioned in SSsniperwolf's AI-generated apology that had so little thought put into it they called jacksfilms "jacksfilm" while spending a few days failing to demonetise SSsniperwolf's second channel where she was posting older videos to keep gaming the algorithm and adsense while her main channel being temporarily demonetised
Remember when Rishi Sunak said his wife was off-limits, so nobody was allowed to talk about her tax affairs (and lack thereof)? Because it apparently slipped his mind, what with Akshata Murty announcing his arrival to the lectern at the Tory conference like Casey DeSantis if she was a tax-dodging daughter of a billionaire
In the space of a week Andrew Cooper went from somebody nobody had ever heard of, to somebody who had a flowchart in his office telling parents who couldn't feed their kids to fuck off (and whose defence was it was in his office a couple of years ago) to somebody who fucked off out of the room via the fire exit when the result of the Tamworth byelection was announced without noticing the irony
According to Therese Coffey the flooding experienced by parts of the UK entirely came down to the rain coming from the east instead of the west, as if rain snuck up behind the UK and dumped untold amounts of rain on the country. That would be the UK, which is an island, which regularly experiences weather coming from the north, south, east and west
Really good look from Brian Mast wearing an Israeli Defence Force uniform in the Capitol and claiming that he had served with the IDF considering the minor detail that, no, he has not served with the IDF due to not being Israeli nor Jewish, instead he's merely a gobshite who was in the US Army almost twenty years ago
Failed nepo baby Lawrence Fox is definitely taking his binning from GB news well, what with him comparing him being sacked for acting like a rapey twat on air with the Holocaust
...while fake vicar Calvin Robinson also took his sacking from the same "news" channel well, posting a video for a GoFundMe to keep a roof over his head - while in DisneyWorld
The fact that Rachel Reeves released a book so riddled with plagiarism that it legit features Wikipedia articles copy/pasted into the body of text should come as a surprise, but considering how much of her economic policy is copy/pasted from George Osborne's from 2010 it really doesn't
The increasingly ridiculous Richard Madely flipped from being Alan partridge to being Alex Jones when he asked Layla Moran if she or her family knew about Hamas' impending attack on Good Morning Britain, what with Moran and her family being Palestinian
At this point suggesting that Nadine Dorries is certifiable is surely not an exaggeration, especially after her claim that big tech companies have large dials in their offices which they use to push people;s internet search results ever leftward
The increasingly unhinged Liverpool FC continued to show how they don't seem to like the rules actually applying to them for a change by releasing a club statement bemoaning the refereeing in their 2-1 loss to Tottenham, which either shows a crippling lack of self awareness considering their track record of benefitting from referees turning a blind eye to their players being offside or handling the ball or kicking players in the face, or is a blatant attempt into bullying officials for the remainder of the season into giving them their way
...while Liverpool fans decided the best course of action was to racially abuse Tottenham's Destiny Udogie on Instagram, which makes no sense whatsoever as he wasn't involved in any of the incidents which the club are spitting feathers over. And no, Liverpool FC have not released a statement about this, for some reason
...although a week later neither Jurgen Klopp nor Liverpool fans were saying so much as a syllable about a replay after Liverpool's draw with Brighton in spite the fact that Virgil van Dijk clearly punched away Kaoro Mitoma's cross yet a penalty was not given
...and a couple of weeks later Jurgen Klopp responded to the referee's baffling decision to not give Ibrahima Konate a second booking for a clear and obvious foul by immediately subbing Konate off and in his post match press conference saying that Everton should get over the fact that Konate wasn't sent off. So much for railing against VAR for the sake of all football, eh?
Somebody should probably inform Quentin Letts that Ofcom have no powers against people chanting anti-Tory slogans outside the Tory conference, so suggesting they step in might look a tad moronic...
And finally, we have registered sex offender Donald Trump proving to be such a stable genius that he hired an attorney who didn't realise that if your client is to have a jury trial you tick the box on the trial application to request a jury trial. And the humiliation conga line only continued to grow every time he posted to his fake social media platform, be it posting screengrabs of Dom Lucre tweets in support without checking if Dom Lucre had done something like post child pornography to their Twitter account in recent months, or posting the personal Instagram of the judge's clerk - which saw him dragged into the courtroom during the lunch break and by complete coincidence the post disappeared within minutes, almost as if he was told to delete the post or spend time in a cell. Luckily he didn't do something so stupid as follow this up by doxxing members of the court. Again...

i have thought about this before so iâm going to add my two cents. (this is long, sorry, i am incapable of brevity)
i think like in the game, the other three should be somewhat established as adventurers and kohane isnât yet. akito and toya could already be partners and an is still looking for a partner of her own. all of them want to be great adventurers and help people. (maybe ken and the rest of rad weekend could be a legendary adventuring party that killed a dragon or something, and theyâre like âretiredâ now)
at one point kohaneâs home village is being attacked by some kind of monster, and an and the bad dogs (separately) are trying to defeat it and save the village. kohane happens to be on the outskirts of town one day (maybe collecting something like mushrooms, berries, or flowers) and that monster stumbles across her. luckily an has been right on its tail this whole time, so sheâs there to save kohane! but during the ensuing battle with the monster, it turns out kohane has some talent for adventuring. maybe she instinctively casts a bit of magic or is just able to join an in singing and that somehow that powers up her bard magic.
so an then is so impressed with kohane she asks if kohane will become her adventuring partner. kohaneâs living situation is probably less than ideal considering she was desperate enough to be out in the woods alone when thereâs a monster known to be lurking around terrorising people, so maybe thatâs why she agrees to join up with an. maybe that latent magic in her brings up questions she canât ignore. maybe she secretly always dreamed of being an adventurer too, she just never thought it was realistic. whatever reason, kohane joins up with an and they do go do adventuring things trying to turn a profit by helping people.
i imagine since theyâre just partnerships and still kinda younger, both an and akito and toya stick around a general area (all of the little villages and towns around one major city). so an knows about the fact the bad dogs have a similar goal to her. after teaming up with kohane, maybe another monster is reported in whatever tavern or place these things are posted in, and both pairs are there together and hear about it at the same time. an thinks itâll be a good first adventure for kohane, but akito thinks kohane isnât cut out for adventuring because she has no training or experience. so he says he and toya are gonna find the monster and beat it first.
mita is there (because i love vbs npcs and i say so) and also overhears this. and he decides to back up akitoâs words by sabotaging their monster hunting. he follows an and kohane so he can buff up the monster or summon more when they encounter it, hoping kohane will run away scared and will prove sheâs not cut out for adventuring.
an and kohane do succeed in finding the monster before the guys, and kohane has learned a simple spell and got outfitted with a weapon for defense. itâs going well, but then mita does his sabotage thing and accidentally calls way more monsters or in some way causes a much bigger threat than any of these guys really think they can handle. so he scrams.
when fleeing, mita bumps into akito and toya, who were also hot on the monsterâs trail, and he tells them how he fucked up and thereâs way too many monsters. akito is pissed that mita did something so reckless and frankly stupid, but he lets him go and runs to help. even if akito thinks kohaneâs not cut out for this, heâs not going to just let them get killed.
akito and toya show up to find the drastically escalated situation. kohane maybe got too scared and overwhelmed to cast magic anymore, but an is still managing to hold the monsters off. the guys help out and theyâre able to take out the threat together.
an maybe realised that someone had summoned more monsters, and how dangerous it was. akito doubles down like he does in game that kohane was not cut out for adventuring. going on some rant about how true adventurers donât back down from anything. an accuses him of summoning the monsters, and akito takes the blame and he and toya head off.
toya hears akitoâs rant and thinks about how he ran away from his fatherâs intense training to be a knight or something. akitoya break up ensues. toya tells akito that adventuring is dumb and youâre needlessly and stupidly seeking out danger. akito probably more or less ran away from home to pursue adventuring, and it means the whole world to him to be an adventurer and help people like how he was saved by the legendary ken when he was younger. so he attacks toya and runs off on his own and shit.
an and kohane run into toya again, i guess maybe ken has bed and breakfast or tavern, and he tells them about breaking up his partnership with akito and how akito lied about summoning the monsters.
someone else in the place overhears akitoâs name and tells them all how akito ran off alone to defeat a really powerful monster and all that. and toya does really care for akito and wants to go after him and save him. an and kohane come too because toyaâs gonna need all the help he can get, and they do owe them for the other time. ken tells toya that he doesnât think adventuring is about never backing down period, but rather about never giving up on a problem. and sometimes you have to try a different approach. sure toya doesnât want to defend people as a knight, but he wants to protect people as an adventurer, just like akito.
idk ken is too old for adventuring or had some major injury in his final battle or something. so he canât go with. but toya, kohane, and an go chase after akito. they catch up to him just at the last second as heâs about to get overwhelmed by the monster and help him out. they defeat the monster together. akitoya reunion moment, the boys apologize for things.
at this point either they just decide they work well together as an adventuring party and can overcome stuff together they couldnât do alone. or if you wanted to include sekai maybe miku in some way delivers them a prophecy where they need to work together to prevent some grand destruction. either way they can now venture out into the adventuring world. the others help kohane learn stuff, but sheâs probably just really naturally talented like in game so she managed to keep up.
if there are any other dnd and pjsk players out there, how would you make a more fantastical version of the vbs backstory if they were a party of bards? asking for uhhh uh uhh jay
#oh god#long post#once again sorry this is so long#i hope you enjoy this or it helps?#i love vbs so much i have so many au ideas for them#actually doing this makes me think maybe i should get all my notes together and make a post about my twewy au#anyway sorry again for clowning/dumping this on your post op#tech.speaking

Haikyuu! Drabble: When you get hurt (minor injuries)
Note: Ugggghhhhhhh I love these men. Honestly. wtf. How can you have so many good guys in one anime. Also please donât take this as a sign that Iâll stop posting for Genshin, but you know, give me some space to hype over my other fandoms please XD
Warnings: itâs seriously just plain fluff
Characters: Kageyama, Tsukishima, Oikawa, Bokuto, Ushijima
Kageyama
âWhat happened to your knee?â
Is the first thing he says, his face as serious as ever, eyes looking at your bandaged knee as he approaches you in class. You laugh nervously as you unwound the school bag away from your shoulder, placing it on your desk.
âAh, I was walking Momo-chan last night...But you know, heâs gotten so big and I guess I was a little distracted...He saw a squirrel and just went running for it and...â you trail off, feeling Kageyamaâs aura change. You knew he was about to call you reprimand you, and sure enough, he says âIdiot,â just as he would to Hinata.
On closer inspection you also had a bandage around your wrist. He guessed that you tried to hold on to the leash and it dragged your hand across the pavement.Â
After berating you with that one word, he wouldnât say anything else about it. But he would, whenever he could, show some concern that you wouldnât usually see. âIâll take that,â he grabs your lunch box from you and you look up at him all confused as to why heâs carrying it for you today.Â
But, he stops at the door of the classroom and then turns around. âActually, letâs just eat here,â as opposed to the school rooftop where the two of you usually ate.Â
And then, at the end of the school day, before you could even lift your bag over your shoulder, heâs already there and lifting it on HIS shoulder. Youâre dumbfounded. âAre you going to your club? Iâll walk you first then go to mine,âÂ
Then it hits you. Itâs because youâre hurt, and he didnât want you to strain your knee or wrist anymore. You secretly smile but let him do what he wants. There was no stopping him when he set his mind to it after all. âTobio-kun, you know, itâs just a scrape, I can still do things by myself,âÂ
âShut up and just let me do it...â he mutters under his breath, until he drops you off to your club and goes his own way.Â
And then, as your nightly routine to walk Momo-chan, youâre stunned when you see your boyfriend standing there, outside your house gates. Hands in his pockets. âT-Tobio?âÂ
He lived close by, but still, you didnât expect him to be there. He snatches the leash away from you, your dog is just happily gazing at the two of you, tail swishing wildly at the fact that TWO of his favourite people are walking him today. And again, Kageyama says,
â...I need to go for a run anyway,â
Tsukishima
âExcuse me, Iâm looking for a Tsukishima-san,â
A girl in the basketball team uniform appears at the doorway of the gym, all members turn to her as she bows and straightens up. Tsukishima sighs in relief. Finally an actual excuse to rest from training.Â
âThatâs me,â he towers over the girl, who only blinks up at him, slightly intimidated. âAh, uh, yeah...Y/N said that you have her spare glasses?â His eyebrows perk up. Right. You were in the basketball team, for some reason he always forgot that detail.Â
He turns away without a word and goes to his bag. He did, indeed, have your spare glasses. You left it at his house last time during a study session, being the airhead that you are. He retrieves it but before handing the black box to the girl, he asks. âWhat happened to the ones she has?âÂ
He wasnât thinking much of it. Perhaps someone accidentally stepped on it, or maybe you even accidentally broke it.
"The ball hit her face,âÂ
âIs she--â
The words of worry practically dies on his lips. He could feel and sense Yamaguchi and Sugawara listening in to the conversation and heâd drop dead before getting caught being worried for someone. But still, this is why he always told you that you needed sports glasses. A scratch to the eye could be dangerous.
He sighs pretty loudly, and turns to face Sugawara who was off court, standing next to Yamaguchi who was also taking a small break. âSugawara-san, Iâll be back,â Thereâs a big smile on his vice captainâs face, same as Yamaguchi who knew that his friend was actually worried.Â
Tsukishima ignored their stupid smiles.
âOh! Kei,â You look up as the door to the school clinic opened, you were just sitting on one of the beds, legs moving back and forth and waiting for your teammate to retrieve the spare glasses for you. Tsukishima said that heâd handle it and as he passed the black box to you he grabs your chin and turns it in his hands, looking at your eyes.Â
There was a cut under your left eye that was already patched up. He releases your face when he was sure it was actually nothing serious, only to cross his arms and smirk at you. âSee, I told you that hard head of yours would come in handy. Also receive the ball with your hands, not your face,â
You puff your cheeks out in annoyance and put your spare glasses on, feeling brand new. âSure did, but my glasses arenât as strong as my skull,â you sulked and he only blinked. âand I was taking a break! Then suddenly I see the ball coming at me, I donât think thatâs my fault!â
âI believe you. Your team has horrid ball passing skills after all,â heâs relentless with his insults but you knew thatâs just the way he was. The fact that he came all the way to the school clinic told you enough about his worry. So, you ignore his last remark and smile up at him, âThanks for checking on me, Kei,âÂ
He clicks his tongue but places his hand on your head, âLetâs get you new ones tomorrow, and maybe now youâll listen to me about those sports glasses,âÂ
Oikawa
âSheâs absent today,â
Oikawaâs face fell. You hadnât told him anything about being sick or being unwell today. He wondered what happened. However, despite his looks and carefree personality, the Aoba Johsai captain was someone who was actually quite detailed. âIn that case, can someone pass me her homework? Iâll go and deliver it to her!â
Safe to say your classmates were always surprised at how much the captain doted on you. He wasnât always doing it openly, but at least he was thoughtful and thorough.
âY/N-chan~ How could you leave me all alone in school today?â You could practically hear the pout from the other side of the line. Heâd gone to the school grounds to get some private time to call you.Â
âSorry Toru, I canât really walk properly. It should be fine in a few days though,â
His heart did a little leap, worry etching itself on his features. âWhat do you mean? What happened?â
The pout in his voice was gone, replaced by what you always called âthe captain voiceâ.Â
âI sprained my ankle...Itâs a long and stupid story...â you laughed but you heard him sigh. âWell, I have no choice then. Your prince will visit you after-school today!â
You didnât think he really would. He had volleyball practice and he took those seriously. But at 8 pm, just as you finished dinner, your doorbell rang and next thing you knew he was in your room.Â
Your mother just LOVED him. Sometimes you thought even more than you. She was unaware of how hyper Oikawa actually was. He certainly knew how to play his cards right.Â
âAlright princess, let me see that foot,â While you were sitting on your chair he practically bent down on on one knee and inspected it. He did kind of look like a prince like that, with his volleyball jacket. Then he suddenly plopped on the floor with his legs crossed. âAAhhhh! That sucks you wonât come to school for a few days!â He was whining again and you couldnât help but laugh.Â
Without fail, every day that you were absent, he showed up at your house after practice.
Bokuto
Itâs not that you were particularly clumsy. You were actually a pretty careful person, and thatâs why Bokuto always trusted your cooking skills over his. Baking a cake shouldnât be too hard, but you were rather unfamiliar with the oven at his place.
âMm, so, it says here to just leave it in the oven for 45 minutes!â he has this big smile on his face and you shake the batter in the round container again. The oven had already been pre-heated and when you open the door to it, hot air greets you.Â
You took the round container in your hand, and push it in. It sits just at the front of the oven and you really hate it when that happens, so, with your boyfriend still focused on the recipe (and without mittens cause you think itâll just be quick push) you try to inch the round cake pan further in with your hand. At one point, you accidentally touch the inside of the hot oven and you recoil your hand with a loud gasp.Â
âWHAT?! What what what?!â Bokuto flings the recipe book away and clutches at your hand. In all honesty it didnât hurt that much, but you had made contact on the hot surface just enough for it to sting and startle you. âNothing Kou, I just accidentally touched the oven,â you laugh sheepishly but heâs pulling you over to the sink.
The boy is panicking.
âWater!â Youâre amazed at how he even knows what to do, running water now splashing on your hand. It wasnât even enough to burn you, it was just a little red, thatâs all. âK-Kou, itâs totally fine,âÂ
But he turns to you with a waterfall of tears running down his eyes and his hair has deflated from itâs usual spiky style. âI-Iâm so useless!âÂ
âAh there he goes,â you think. But youâve been trained by Akaashi how to handle these kinds of outbursts from him. âNot at all Kou-kun, you mixed the batter so perfectly. I usually get tired when I do that, but you have really strong arms! Next time Iâll let you handle the oven too, is that okay?â
He stares at you blankly for a moment. The tears have disappeared and his lips oh-so slowly curve into a smile. He gives you a thumbs up, back to his usual flair and confidence. âOf course! Leave it to me!â and he laughs triumphantly while you thank Akaashi in your mind.
Ushijima
Cooking for him and Tendo at the dorms was like a weekly routine. It was mostly for Ushijima, but Tendo liked crashing the cooking party too.
âBe careful.â Ushijima says as he passes the vegetables for you to chop. You did so without any incident. The cooking itself passes by without any incident, until your hand slip off the plate youâre holding and it comes crashing down the floor, shattering into pieces, some of the pieces flying off in different directions.
Ushijima and Tendo perks up in alarm at the sudden sound, with Ushijima being the first to rise on his feet and assess the situation. Youâre about to carefully just move away from the mess you made, shards littering around your feet. âDonât move,â Ushijima tells you, noting that you were only wearing his over-sized slippers. He sees that one of the shards has cut your foot. It was small, but since it was fresh, it was still bleeding.Â
âIf you move youâll hurt yourself, wait for me,â you do as told as Ushijima first sweeps off the rest of the shattered glass with a broom, disposes of it. Next he comes to you with a new set of slippers, puts it down on the now clean floor, and tells you to carefully slip out of the ones you have on, he was cautious about the small pieces. Only when you were neatly into the new set of slippers did he clean off the rest of the glass.
Tendo only sat and watched in amusement. His captain was very thorough, even with things like that. âIâll go and get a first aid kit~â he offered as he stood and sauntered off. âY/N, sit over there,â he pointed at a nearby chair and you merely follow. There was no use saying no to him, you knew he just wanted to check if everything was in order.
Sure enough just as Tendo comes back with the kit, Ushijima inspects your foot, eyes scanning all around it. It seems that there was only that one cut and itâd be easy to treat. You werenât surprised that Ushijima knew what to do, watching him take some cotton and pour some alcohol on it, muttering under his breath that it would sting a bit.Â
By the end of it, the cut on your foot was disinfected and bandaged properly. âOohhhh! Good job Wakatoshi-kun!â Tendo praised his friend for the clean job and Ushijima nodded his head with a small âMm,â
âThank you,â you smile up at him, âand sorry for the plate, I wasnât paying attention,âÂ
Ushijima makes a thoughtful sound, perhaps a little confused by your apology â...The plate is of no great value,â he simply says âit can be replaced.â
"I canât say the same for you Y/N, so itâs good that you werenât gravely hurt,â The blush on your cheeks is obvious and Ushijima doesnât understand what has you so flustered, heâs just being his honest and straightforward self.Â
Tendo only laughs at the display.

distance learning (m)
banner done by the beautiful @eerieeditsâ
summary; after their first hookup, jungkook isnât so sure whether youâre serious about being exclusive. after all, people say things during sex. jungkook takes it in his own hands to figure out where you stand, and he realizes soon enough that eavesdropping is a bad habit pairing; neighbor!jungkook x (f) reader genre/warnings; fluff, humor, crack, insecure!jk, unresolved sexual tension, stressed!mc, this is really just unnecessary drama bc drama is funâą, sexting, dom kookâs still a meanie in control, posession kink, cock slapping, a blowjob, cockwarming, unprotected, creampie, squirting, (wrap the pickle before u tickle folks) and of course the excessive use of the petname [redacted] w/c; 6.1k a/n; haaaaaa three months later im finally posting pt 2! i figured that no matter how many times i edit/reread at this point i think itâs time to finally let this beast go!!! enjoyyy click here for part 1: remote learning drabbles; 01
if you enjoy this, please considering giving our pasta couple a like nâshaređ
Itâs been a week since the thing.
The remote-controlled vibrator thing.Â
The whole sappy-love-confesion-during-sex thing.Â
Jungkook is antsy, tail tucked in, perpetually wondering whether he went too far. You seemed to like it, and Jungkook definitely loved it. It was spicy and dirty and hot, and at the same time Jungkook thought he really made progress in expressing his feelings for you. Not only that, you said you liked him back!
At least, he thought you did.Â
âI really said Iâd feed her lasagna and cum in the same sentence,â Jungkook bemoans into his pillow, which still lingers faintly of your Redken shampoo. âIâm disgusting. She thinks Iâm disgusting.âÂ
People say things during sex, Jungkook knows that. In the throes of passion and pleasure, people will say anything that comes to their mind, anything that fits the mood. Of course, youâd be tied in and say you like him back. But did you like him back as a friend? As a fuckbuddy? As something more?Â
âFucking text her,â Taehyung is tired of Jungkookâs wallowing, everytime he checks in on the app developer heâs brooding in one of three places. Todayâs his bedroom. Taehyung dips under the blankets, and steals Jungkookâs pillow right under his nose.
Jungkook suppresses a whimper, face melding into the blankets. Now that pillow is going to smell like Taehyung.
âText her what,â Jungkook replies despondently.Â
âI donât know, something along the lines of âI wanna follow through with my proposition of feeding you my cum and lasagnaânot simultaneously. Wanna go on a date this weekend?â Itâs that simple,â Taehyung gets up in Jungkookâs face, dark eyes forcing him to bore right in. âWant me to do it for you?âÂ
âNoo, Iâm an adult I canââ
âI did it for you.âÂ
Jungkook nearly knocks into Taehyungâs hard head, sitting up straight when he notices his phone behind his roommateâs back. This is what he gets for sharing passwords. Thankfully, the message is cleaner than Taehyungâs words, and youâve already replied.Â
[1:23] Jungkook: would you like to go out for dinner this weekend? pasta and wine?
[1:25] You: itâs a busy week this week đ„ș raincheck?Â
âWas the sex that bad?â Taehyung frowns, reading the message twice.Â
âN-no,â Jungkook is sweating. He isnât sure anymore.Â
Taehyung hands Jungkook back his phone, slowly, as if youâll reply back with a change of your mind. Jungkook is a deflated balloon on his bed, feeling like a bum in his ratty sweater and a dateless weekend.Â
âItâs just that,â Taehyung puts a hand on his lip, mulling, âbusy people donât reply that fast. Like even if she wasnât busy, thereâs a fifteen-minute leeway before replying.âÂ
This silly rule overrides Jungkookâs mind for the rest of the week.Â
The gyms have been reopened for months, and Jungkookâs trainer misses him dearly. Jungkook meets with Saeroyi in the morning, eager to get a few jabs in with some fresh equipment. He tries to move on, distract himself with a couple of pumps and a match with Saeroyi. It feels great to sweat it off, but it doesnât help sway Jungkookâs incessant thoughts.Â
The ball is in your court now, Jungkook has nothing to do but wait. Some people are just bad texters, maybe you just happened to have your phone near you when Taehyung sent the message. Maybe you just wanted to cut Jungkook off as quickly as possible so you decided to reply fast and rip the band-aid.Â
No, youâre definitely not that cold-hearted.Â
Re-entering his apartment complex, his eyes linger towards where your room lies on the first floor. Itâs all the way at the end of the hallway, and heâs tempted to just confront you and make sure that what you and him really had is indeed, over. Conversely, you could just really be having a bad week and you genuinely do want a raincheck.Â
Jungkookâs eyes trail to his form. Still in his gym clothes, and a little sweaty from the travel time. If he gets caught, he can just tell you heâs doing a cooldown by running across the hallways. Not the first time itâs happened, afterall it led him to you at one point.Â
He breaks into a soft jog, making a beeline to your front door. His feet squish against your old welcome mat. You havenât changed it since Halloween, and he smiles fondly at the black scripted âBoo Yâallâ written in script next to a chibi-ghost.Â
His heart beats faster as his hand lingers by the door, ready to knock. Deep breaths. Who knows, he could just be overthinking (like usual.)Â
âFuck, Hobi!âÂ
Jungkook freezes, his knuckles a centimeter away from your door. He backs up as if heâs been burned. His heart has fallen all the way down to his ass, and intends to stay there because now he feels like a damn fool.Â
The bed is creaking relentlessly, a rhythmic pattern that has Jungkookâs face crumbling at every spring. Jungkookâs face hovers over the door, his ear brushing against the wood.Â
âCâmon, bunny,â the male voice is teasing, âyou know you love having me over. It would satisfy both of us if youâd just let it go.âÂ
Bunny. A cute pet name, for sure. The way it rolls off the strangerâs tongue is natural, as if heâs been saying it for years. But what about being his doll, is that not good enough?Â
Youâre huffy, taking deep breaths. He doesnât want to hear anymore. Jungkook has put himself through enough self-wallowing for the week. What if he was just a stepping stone to meeting new people that will satisfy you better? What if you just needed one good orgasm to get your flow back, and Jungkookâs job is done? Sure, there were no strings attached when he proposed to have sex with you, but he thoughtâŠÂ
No more thinking. Jungkook jogs away from the door, even going so far is to jog all the way up to the penthouse.Â
He hates this.Â
You hate this.Â
Itâs been five days since Hoseokâs arrival, and you are going bonkers. Why couldnât he get a hotel or an AirBnB? Because heâs cheap as fuck, thatâs why. Your dinky cousin has been clinging to you like a lonely koala, and while you found it cute in the 5th grade, it doesnât translate well nearly two decades later.Â
Every morning is the same. You make a subpar toast and Nutella breakfast, letting Hoseokâs slices go cold as you log in for work. Youâve been clocking in earlier in the hopes to finish the majority of your tasks before Hoseok wakes up, because by then you can barely function. Once he wakes up, heâs relentless, bouncing on the bed and talking your head off while you try to concentrate on whatever your boss is telling you. Whenever he jumps too hard, your cheap mattress causes your laptop to fly, and the only thing you can do is curse him out. Sometimes he plays Disney movies and sings in tandem, choreography and all.Â
You know that Hoseok is stressed and this is his outlet, and you donât have it in you to stop his incessant habits. Heâs visiting your area because of a lucrative job offer nearby and the interviews are sporadic, making Hoseok linger in your apartment for hours at a time until heâs summoned for whatever test they want to throw at him.Â
Most of the interviews are in the evening, and itâs when you can clock back in and finish your leftover assignments while Hoseok is also working. By the time he returns, youâre dog tired and so is he.Â
Every night, you try to move away from Hoseokâs clingy self, as he grapples onto your waist and slings a thigh over your belly. You wish it were someone else sharing the bed with you.Â
If you bring Jungkook into the picture however, youâd be burnt for the week. Complete crumbs. It would be too much stimulation for you, having to balance work, Hoseokâs incessant attitude, and putting on a face for Jungkook. Your relationship with the penthouse neighbor is barely budding, hardly watered considering Hoseokâs sudden visit. You cling to the fact that in a couple days you would be giving your undivided attention to Jungkook, most of your priorities out of the way, and most importantly, youâll have your own room back.Â
Maybe you could surprise him by giving him a pasta dinner, just like he proposed.Â
Unable to get the thought out of your head, you blindly reach for your phone on the nightstand. Itâs late, very late for a workday. The blue screen burns your eyes a bit, but you're determined to at least check up on Jungkook. You canât take too long, otherwise you wonât be able to sleep and get him out of your head. Dear, unassuming cousin Hoseok is fast asleep next to you, due to the fact itâs nearly midnight. Making sure not to disrupt him, you carefully cup your phone in your hands, putting it on the lowest light setting.Â
[11:54] You: hey, hope work hasnt been as draining for u as itâs been for me â ïžÂ whatâs your opinion on pasta sauces, red or white?Â
Jungkook is normally a fast texter, at least from your experience. Itâs you thatâs the sporadic texter, sometimes taking hours to reply, other times in seconds. It never really mattered until now, however. But it takes five, ten, and finally fifteen minutes before you get a response.Â
[12:09] Jungkook: ???Â
You frown, wondering what you said wrong.Â
[12:10] You: do you not wanna do pasta anymore? Are you craving something else now?
[12:10] Jungkook: i donât think itâd work outÂ
[12:10] You: why?Â
[12:11] Jungkook: im sure you know why, bunny.Â
Strange. Heâs never called you bunny before, and in your opinion you think heâd be the bunny in the relationshipâsoft and cuddly on the outside, and an absolute horn ball in bed. Is this some sort of weird power play? Is he being passive aggressive on purpose? Whatever this game is, youâre not into it. Grumbling under your breath, you snake out of bed, looking blindly for your slippers in the dark. Youâll be in and out of Jungkookâs apartment in ten minutes.Â
Just as your hand brushes the doorknob, your new roommate calls for you.Â
âBunny?â Hoseok calls blearily, and youâre staring straight at his cookie-printed eye mask, âwhat time is it, where are you going?âÂ
âUm, out,â you reply shortly, âI forgot I left my laundry in the dryer.âÂ
âOh, mâkay. Come back soon, yâknow I canât sleep alone.âÂ
Itâs then you realize. Bunny. Jungkook thinks that Hoseok and you are a thing. He really needs to stop eavesdropping on you.Â
You feel your pussy frown. Your cousin is such a cockblock and he doesnât even know it. Without an answer, you slip through your door and into the first free elevator. As you zing up the floors with the magical 1234 code, you work and rework your hair in and out of its style, wondering if youâll look more presentable with your hair messy or thrown back.Â
As soon as you reach the penthouse, you burst into action. âJungkook!â you cry, pounding the front door, âitâs a misunderstanding, open up!âÂ
The door immediately swings open after the first three knocks, and you punch Taehyung in the chest.Â
âYou look awful,â Kim Taehyung drawls. Taehyung is wearing nothing but a cranberry red silk kimono, and you have to avert your eyes and focus on his face, which is even worse because heâs looking at you like an all-knowing psychic.Â
âGee, thanks,â you try to move past him, but heâs blocking the door.Â
âJungkookâs in a meeting with some foriegn developers,â Taehyung talks with his hands, pretending like he has any idea of the nature of his roommateâs job, âwhen itâs this late he doesnât leave his office until morning. Doorâs locked.âÂ
âWell then, can you relay a message?âÂ
âDepends, is this message going to hurt him further?âÂ
Oh my goodness, when Taehyung wants to be he is such an enabler. âTell Jungkook heâs done wallowing. Instead of jumping to conclusions, maybe he shouldâve just asked me why we couldnât go on a date this week.âÂ
âYou couldâve also just told him you have a man on the side.âÂ
âOhmygod you two are two iotas of a combined braincell!â you shove your hands in your pocket, hotly scrolling through your phone so you can shove a picture in his face. âThis is Jung Hoseok, my cousin who derailed my plans this week by crashing in my too-tiny apartment and forced me to raincheck with Jungkook. Heâs a blabbermouth and would tell everyoneâmy parents, my grandparents, my great-auntsâabout Jungkook if he found out I was dating, and Iâm not ready for that,â you zoom in on the picture, despite the fact that the screen is practically touching Taehyungâs nose, âand the reason Hoseok calls me bunny is not sexualâyou two are fucking grossâI had front tooth problems in elementary school and I had a brace on my two big teeth, it was not pretty.âÂ
âAh, bunny.â Taehyung echoes with wide eyes, looking at you as if youâre now the one with sage wisdom, âit all makes sense now.â He gulps, taking in the old photo of a mini-Hoseok and you, yourself frowning to cover your huge braces and Hoseok trying to pull your gums apart with his greasy little fingers.Â
Satisfied by Taehyungâs evident squirming, you decide youâre too tired to further this interaction. âTell the other half of your cell for me, will ya?â Youâre already turning away, pressing repeatedly at the elevator button, âI would love to go on a date with him as soon as he gets his head out of his ass.âÂ
Jungkook is tired, but not tired enough to murder Taehyung and make it look like an accident.Â
When he has late meetings, Taehyung is usually quieter around the apartment, and even gets Jungkook a hot meal once he wakes up in the afternoons. Today, Jungkook slept through and through. Normally heâd wake up midway to Taehyungâs television dramas, or the clanging of last nightâs dishes but nope, not a peep.Â
And todayâs hot meal is takeout from Jungkookâs favorite ramen restaurant. That only means one thingâsomething has gone to shit and Taehyung feels guilty.Â
Jungkook sips his tonkotsu impossibly slow, hearing Taehyungâs wordsâyour words from last nightâclear as day. Taehyung even describes in detail where the nickname bunny comes from, down to how miserable you looked in the photo with your monstrously metal-bent teeth. Oh, how he wishes he can swaddle you between the blankets, hold you and comfort you while you deal with your family.Â
[2:45] Jungkook: doll, im so sorry
[2:45] Jungkook: please, i booked us a weekend at that new spa that just opened downtown. The tickets are flex, so if your cousin doesnât leave by then week we can always rescheduleÂ
[2:51] Jungkook: baby dollâŠÂ
This is far worse than believing you didnât like him. Now Jungkook is antsy, knowing you deserve all the space in the world because of how silly he was being. You owe him nothing. If he just waited it out until you were ready, he wouldnât be in this mess. Heâs potato-esque throughout the day, thankfully Taehyung gives him space as he watches hours of mindless television.Â
You donât reply until very late into the night.Â
[10:10] You: IM ALIVE--barely!! And mr. jeon, youâre not only a triple texter, but an ellipsis texter???? Youâre asking for trouble
Jungkook has no shame, immediately texting you back. He canât help it, heâs smitten.Â
[10:12] Jungkook: taehyung explained everything. Itâs all his fault. Donât ask why, itâs his fault. Im so sorry.Â
[10:12] You: mm, itâs okay. Just a misunderstanding. I was pretty upset last night, but iâve been pretty tired this week so my fuse is short.Â
[10:14] Jungkook: you should go to sleep now, doll. Weâll have time together after your cousin leaves
[10:14] You: just a couple more minutes. Miss u and your cute faceÂ
[10:16] Jungkook:Â
[10:16] Jungkook: will this hold u off until saturday?
Jungkook is a pile of goo. Pink, warm, happy heart-glittered goo. It takes a minute for you to reply, and for that whole minute Jungkook is kicking his legs under the sheets of his bed like an eager five-year old who just gave his crush his Valentine. Maybe itâs taking you so long to reply because youâre trying to send a selfie of your own, running off to the bathroom to take a cute selfie if your cousin is asleep in bed.Â
[10:19] You: fuck, i kno thatâs supposed to be a cute selfie, but i want you so bad. I want to sit on your face, let your lips glisten with my pussy as i cum all over that pretty face
[10:19] You: i wanna touch myself so badly but fuckinâ hoseok is out here snoring like heâs gon hack a lung. Panties are so wet đ„șđ„ș your doll is needy for you, wanna be played with
[10:20] Jungkook: lfjsdl;fkjs;fjsoisfoisljsdfsdklfjsdklfÂ
He throws his phone across the bed, feeling himself twitch in his red flannel pyjama bottoms. The thought of you so hot and needy when youâre ten floors down has Jungkook absolutely livid. He doesnât know how heâs going to talk to you, comfort you without missing you like crazy.Â
Jungkook thinks back to what he has in his fridge. His contractor sent him a cheese assortment, maybe he can bring it down pretending to be a friendly neighbor. Maybe Hoseok can go to the convenience store to conveniently grab a bottle of wine. He can make both of you cum in five minutes, flat.Â
Akin to a dumb, horny teenager, he sighs. He rubs his palm longingly over his member. Heâs horny, but heâs also eager to see your face. Talk to you, get reacquainted with your routine and sneak his way into it. He wants to be a part of your life, and heâs hoping you will too.Â
[5:02] You: Jungkook, you left me hanging last night
[5:05] Jungkook: baby doll⊠i wouldnt have been able to handle myself if we continued
[5:06] You: so you decided to dip :(Â
[5:06] You: could u play with your doll a lil bit, kook? Hobi left for another interview
[5:08] You: PNG.0901
Jungkook was a fool to believe that you would drop him like that. No, Jungkook can see now that you two are a match made in heaven. You have a bite, never afraid to speak your mind when needed. This translates to a hunger you shamelessly share with Jungkook, both sexual and romantically intimate. He almost wishes he couldâve seen you act like a bitch to Taehyung last night, he can only imagine how sexy you looked telling him off.Â
He has the technology to blow up your picture, the one thatâs currently having him close his laptop and shove it to the side. He spreads his legs further across his glass desk, trying to find comfort between his tight pants as he absorbs every bit of your skin.Â
Itâs nothing too risque, but itâs nothing short of sensual. The room is dark, but itâs very clearly a picture of your hand between your thighs. Again, youâre between your wall and bed, squished between your office chair with your legs spread as far as they can go. Your skin is so soft looking, plush as you press two fingers between your damp panties. Adorable.Â
[5:12] Jungkook: you know why i never replied last night? Because i was too busy jacking off to your dirty words doll. U really need your mouth washed
[5:12] You: wanna wash it with something elseđ
[5:12] You: please kook, i need something. Hoseok will come home soon and i might rip his head off. Help prevent a murder
Jungkook chuckles, clutching his phone closer to his body. He loves how much youâre opening up to him. Last week feels like so long ago, how you were all flushed and wide-eyed at the proposition of sex. He thinks you two can have a lot of fun getting to know each other, both emotionally and physically.Â
[5:15] Jungkook: i was gonna wait until i sent this, but i think my doll needs it. Hereâs what i was doing last night
[5:17] Jungkook: MP4.13
He⊠has a meeting in five minutes. A very important, very serious meeting. Jungkook jacked off enough last night, now itâs your turn. He hopes you like it. Itâs not a very long video, barely a twenty-second clip of him fisting his cock. Taehyung was still home at the time, so he had to keep quiet. However, he couldnât get the image of you out of his head that night, rubbing your thighs together in a cramped mattress as you try to erase the dirty thoughts of him. A murmur of your name, and the image of his precum dripping down his knuckles. You hope itâs enough.Â
[5:34] You: u make everything so much easierđâš
[5:35] You: MP4.234
Two minutes. The video you send is even shorter than his, barely fifteen seconds. Youâre in a much more comfortable position, horizontal on the bed. Your shirt is ridden up to the underside of your breasts, one hand clutching your bare breast so hard he can see your cotton plush skin bulging between your fingers. The other hand has your panties shifted to the side, three fingers in your sopping cunt.Â
âMmhâfuck, f-uck Jungkookââ the words are mere breaths, puffs of air as you reach your orgasm.Â
His call connects. He nearly drops his phone on the glass. Â
âJungkook!â Andreas from Germany wishes him brightly, âyou look great, glowing even!âÂ
Jungkook blushes, and mutters something about having to go to the bathroom before they start.Â
Taehyung makes himself scarce on Saturday. He packs a duffel bag for himself and takes the PlayStation, knowing itâll be a long weekend at Jiminâs.Â
Jungkook is on livewire for the morning. He even express-delivers a pasta roller to his house, and he spends all morning testing out the perfect pasta dough. His black apron is covered in flour, and he can barely comprehend the tutorial thatâs teaching him on his flatscreen.Â
Heâs on autopilot. He hasnât contacted you since he sent that selfie, and he doesnât intend to. Jungkook understands why you made yourself scarce in the beginning of the week, preferring to raincheck and pin your relationship for a better time. Jungkookâs brain is overridden with you, swollen with thoughts of you. You would never be able to focus if you kept in contact like you did last night, especially if you canât get away from Hoseok.Â
Absence surely makes the heart grow fonder.Â
Slapping his hands against his trousers, he surveys his handiwork. His pasta is appropriately floured and wrung, each handful of fresh dough wrapped in little nests. Off the stove is a bechamel sauce, a base ready to be cooked in whatever kind of pasta dish you want. He thinks the two of you would have fun making your own non-traditional pasta dishes.Â
The soft knocks on his front door interrupts his train of thought, and he knows itâs you.Â
You stand in front of the door, impossibly small in a large shirt and a plain pair of leggings. At the sight of Jungkook, a smile as warm and sweet as hot chocolate worms its way to your face, and you collapse into his arms.Â
He sighs gratefully, sinking into your small body. When he pulls away, he canât help but frown at your apparent exhaustion. You mustâve come back from something tedious, because sweat dots your brow and your eyes are still puffy and dark. Your chest arches bonelessly into his, hoping to melt in his embrace.Â
âHi,â you say.
âHey,â he replies.Â
âItâs Saturday.âÂ
âIt is Saturday.âÂ
You rub your nose between the fabric of his button down, âI shouldâve been more specific when I wanted to raincheck on you,â you murmur into the white cotton.Â
âNo, Iâm sorry for jumping to conclusions,â Jungkook whispers, even though youâre the only two people on the floor, âIâll make it better, yeah? Iâm going to love you so good tonight, wonât have to lift a fingerââÂ
You shake your head, looking at him calmly. âJungkook, itâs been a long week. Hobi got the job, I spent all this morning moving his two-ton speaker set into his new apartment. I donât want anything gentle. I want you to rail me into next week,â Jungkook chokes on his saliva when you reach to cup his dick through his pants, already sporting a chub, âfuck me breathless. I wantâno, I need this.â
Anything for you, but Jungkook isnât going to let your mouth runneth over that easily. He wants that too, obviously. But again, youâve made him wait.Â
Bending slightly, Jungkook whispers darkly into your ear, âWho said you can decide the rules here, doll?â heâs been waiting all week to slip back into this persona, one that has you shivering delightfully under his touch. A small, secret smile tucks itself under your lips as you tilt your head down, but Jungkook catches it. It shows youâve missed it too. He lets your sneaky smile slide for now, only because heâs missed you so much and youâve had a long day.Â
âIf I wanna fuck you rough, Iâll fuck you rough. If I want to edge you until you're sobbing on the corner of the kitchen table, Iâll do it,â Jungkook spits every declaration into your skin, biting at your shoulder so hard you cry deliciously.Â
He drags you over to the living room, and he could sing at how easily you follow directions. Both of you have been tied up this week, and some hard sex would definitely ease that frustration, âKnees,â Jungkook commands, and you waste no time sinking to the floor, hands atop your knees.Â
You look up through your lashes, eyes big and glassy. His poor girl is tired, and he finds it all the more attractive that youâre willing to push that aside to make eachother feel good.Â
âPretty, pretty,â he chants, pulling down his pants and letting his dick spring free, âsuck.âÂ
You waste no time, and he watches as your eyes dilate over the expanse of his cock, half-hard and ready for your mouth. Your nails dig into your knees as you start with featherlight kisses, finally turning into sloppy smacks as you lick all over his dick.Â
Jungkook groans, weaving a hand into your hair to force his dick down your throat. You gag at the sudden intrusion, but it doesnât stop you from taking it like a champ. Hard, deep thrusts that heâs sure you can feel all the way in your stomach. You gag at each thrust, but donât let up as your hot tongue wraps him up and licks at the pre-cum.Â
âFuuuuck, doll,â he rips you away, his now hard dick springing away. Heâs a little shaky on his knees, but he plants his feet down as he grips his cock, slapping the tip of it across your cheek. It smears your face, glossing your flushed cheeks in a mixture of your saliva and pre-cum. âAre you trying to make me cum first? So sweet, you donât even care if you cum tonight, hmm? You owe me, making you believe you had another man.âÂ
This isnât true, of course. The both of you know it was just miscommunication, but it doesnât hurt to play it up for pleasure.Â
âN-no Kook, Iâm yours,â you grapple at his pants, pulling them down so he can get them off completely.Â
âRight. Youâre. Mine.â With every punctuated word is a light slap to your cheek, and you take it. His cock bounces right off of you, until you finally move your head to suckle at the engorged tip, âIâm keeping you forever, doll. Donât you know that?âÂ
Throughout this whole process, you donât move, other than the minute clawing at your knees. Youâre so good to him. Jungkook pulls away and ignores the ache in his member for now, taking off your clothes for himself. Itâs like unwrapping a gift, revealing every bit of skin reserved for his viewing. âSo sexy,â he remarks once heâs got you bare, pulling you onto the couch. Heâs still in his button down shirt, his date night shirt, sleeves rolled up to the elbow. However, he lets your hands inch under the stiff fabric, feeling for his taut muscle.Â
He guides your aching cunt to his cock, sinking you down. Itâs a tight fit, and you both moan at the brush of contact. Despite not being prepped, youâre still slick, and it makes up for it. He doesnât thrust up or anything, just guides his lips to yours with a threadbare brush of his finger.Â
âKook, d-do you want me to move?â you mumble against his cherry-flavored lip balm.Â
âGood dolls donât move until theyâre told,â your eyes widen innocently at the statement, and you crumple against his mouth, at his next words, âcum like this.âÂ
âAwh shit, please no,â you tear up, burying your head between the crook of his neck, âI canât wait.âÂ
âThought you wanted me to fuck you into next week. You canât do this one little favor for me?â heâs being so mean, and you hate him for it. Havenât you earned it? âCâmon baby, I thought you wanted me?âÂ
Itâs silent, save for the soft Italian restaurant music playing from whatever tutorial heâs hooked up to his television. Itâs terribly cliche, like youâre in the porno version of a European romance movie. He thinks nothing of it, not when your juices are dripping on his thighs, your skin soft and pliant in his grip. Jungkook drums his fingers against your spine, seemingly uncaring that youâre stuffed deep into your womb.Â
On the other hand, itâs the only thing youâre acutely aware of. His thick, warm cock is nestled between your folds, right where it should be. You clench once, twice, thankful that this isnât some crazed wet dream. States of sleep and consciousness have blurred this week, youâre lucky that you made it all the way up to Jungkookâs apartment.Â
You canât cum like this. You need to bait him. You moan, the sound slow and rumbly against your throat as you weave your fingers through his dark tresses. Moving the strands aside to kiss his cold metal earrings you murmur, âI love this, Kookoo. Iâve wanted you all week, I was going crazy. I kept playing last week in my head over and over. I even put in my little vibrator, hoping youâd pull up the app.âÂ
Jungkookâs teeth clench, and his grip is borderline painful as it digs into your hips.Â
âI havenât been able to cum all week, and I want to do it all over you,â you husk, playing with the roots of his hair.Â
You can feel yourself dripping, wetness lubricating you even further and probably staining his thighs and couch with your arousal. Every second that passes is killer, and the fluttering towards your pussy tighten further as Jungkookâs cock twitches in response. Your pussy continues its ministrations, butterfly-like flaps against his hot member that have you vibrating.
âMm, oh, Iâll cum for you,â and surprisingly, you might be able to. All this dirty talking has gotten you riled up. Just a little bit more andâ
Jungkook shoves you off his cock, forcing you to land on the couch.Â
âNo!â you cry, wiping your face. Your cheeks are ruddied, and youâre annoyed. The coolness of the autumn air has you feeling chilly, and you want to scream at Jungkook for disrupting your orgasm. You feel empty.Â
Youâre not annoyed for long however, as Jungkook flips you on your back and gives you what youâve been craving.Â
âYou glide right in, donât ya doll,â the friction is deliciously blazing, his hands pushing you further into the large couch as he takes you from behind. Hot, fast smacks against your ass come from the way his balls bounce back and forth as he pistons his cock in and out. âF-fuck, youâre so good to me. So good, I love having you like this. All pretty and dripping, you really know how to make a guy wait, huh?âÂ
âMmph! N-noâhng, but Iâm y-yours, Kook,â you garble out, and youâre practically eating the throw pillow youâre propped up on as he slams you further into the cushions, so hard you may fall off, âall yours, honey. N-no more waiting. I want you, want you so badlyâah fuck!âÂ
âItâs worth it, youâre worth it,â he says over and over, his thrusts becoming sporadic and losing their rhythm once he feels you clenching uncontrollably. He presses his two fingers to your sloppy bud, swirling around the juices eagerly. âC-cum, baby doll. You deserve it, yeah? Cum on this cock, let go.âÂ
Youâre starting to see spots, black and white alike. Finally shying away from his cock you rest on your back, but Jungkook doesnât stop his fingers from flying across your clit. One look at his face and youâre gone. Pretty brown eyes, overflowing with affection. The feeling is different, and itâs the acute pressure between your stomach and pussy that makes you notice whatâs going on with your body. The pressure finally releases, your eyes fluttering shut as you rest your cheek on the cushions. You dissolve, a mess on the couch as white hot liquid ejects from your body, spraying Jungkookâs thighs and cushions.Â
âY-you just,â your loverâs mouth is parted open like a baby kitten, uncaring as to how the dark liquid stains his couch fabric.Â
âSquirted?â you answer breathlessly, a melty smile on your lips, ây-yeah.âÂ
It sets him off, a button left dormant until now. The thatches of hair that surround his cock are dripping with your mess, a cold reminder that he got you to this high. He doesnât hesitate to slip his cock back into you, and you gasp at the overstimulation. You try not to focus on how your body is a bundle of lit nerves, only to help Jungkook reach his completion.Â
âS-so perfect,â he warbles, pressing kisses to your jaw, chin, lips. Each thrust is deep, thick and heady with emotion. âMm, I wanna cream this pussy sooo badlyâmm, all mine, all wet and warm and so so sweetââÂ
He cries out your name, biting into your shoulder as your walls fill further with his hot cream. Your thighs are shaking from sensory overload, and Jungkook has to hold you down and soothe you into a state of reality to cling on.Â
Satiated, he nuzzles into your chest, feeling absolutely featherlight.Â
âT-thank you,â you say gratefully, when at least three out of your five senses return to your body. Your hands dip down to clutch his cheek, pinching lightly at the warm skin.
âDonât thank me yet,â Jungkook exhales into your breasts, âd-didnât even feed you my cum yet.âÂ
You scoff, pinching his cheek again. Youâre aware of his softening cock between your folds, ready to seep the efforts of todayâs coupling, but your stomach says otherwise. You crane your neck to make note of the kitchen island, staring curiously at the metal pasta roller and the little nests of carby goodness that decorate the cutting board.Â
âFeed me pasta first, please. You have all night to feed me dessert.âÂ
Jungkook giggles into your stomach, he doesnât mind feeding you in that order.Â
bonus.
âSo.âÂ
âSo?â you have cream sauce on your lips, happily slurping on an angel hair.Â
âYou havenât told me you liked me back yet,â Jungkook rests his palm in the swell of his cheek, content with watching you eat from where heâs standing on the counter. He leans his upper body across the marble table, muscles rippling against his white shirt.Â
âOh, I did!â youâre affronted, swinging your legs on the high chair, âI totally did last week!âÂ
âYeah, well. Can you say it while Iâm not inside you?âÂ
âOkay,â you blink, quirking him with a simple smile, âI like you.âÂ
âThat was anticlimactic,â Jungkook jokes at the brevity of your confession, yet his heart betrays the charm he finds in the three words.Â
You scoff, jabbing your fork in the little next of springy noodles. âWhat do you want to hear? Iâve wanted you since Iâve moved in? I think youâre really handsome when you pace the hallway doing work on your phone? I like the way you cook?âÂ
âKeep going,â Jungkook sing songs, walking over to hug you from behind.
The stool swings back and forth as he rocks the two of you, softly and slowly so you donât throw up your dinner. He noses into your neck, inhaling your scent and committing it to your memory.Â
âMm, dessert first,â you insist, twirling around the stool so you can wrap your legs around his waist. âAnd then I can tell you exactly how much I like you,â your fingers play with the buttons of his shirt, walking the pads of your fingers across his chest.Â
Jungkook grins, hands reaching to cup your bottom and bring you to his bedroom. Of course, heâs always willing to satisfy your insatiable appetite.Â

Massive tw for this post, I can't add a cut cus Tumblr just doesn't allow that for me for some reason, so pls heed these warnings:
mentions of toxic home life, a*use, childhood trauma, alcholosim/drinking (light), etc. this is a post summarizing what I feel like the Sinclair brothers lives were like in foster homes as a way to explain what they're like now. not proofread + cursing btw.
Sinclair brothers and their homes
taglist: @crypticbrahms ur the only one I can tag hunt I hope that's ok <3
Bo.
the brothers were split up immediately by the system. As the self declared eldest, it tore bo apart. He worried so much about his younger brothers, especially Lester. Lester was barely 5 in all this mess and didn't shed a single tear as the ambulance took their ma and then their pa away.
Bo was sent to Texas to a large foster family. The other kids there were a bit older than him, 5 boys and one girl. The girl was quiet and taken out real quick. The older boys would pick on bo and start fights and bo, so filled with anger, had no problem putting them in their place and fighting tooth and nail against these bigger boys who expected an easy target. Let's get one thing straight, bo is not and will never be an easy fight.
because of that, he was given up on a few times before a family friend took him in. by then he was 15-16 and with a little gang of misfits, and he'd rarely spend time at that old lady's house that was so close with his momma. But she adored him and bo did have a soft spot for her. She didn't belittle it outright pity him, she understood him. Her house was busy though, she had her own kiddos running around.
when bo would visit, he was a bit of a baby sitter. the old lady had it under control, but the kids gravitated towards him naturally. He wasn't s very good influence though, always teaching them how to fight and giving a couple of them some cigarettes or beer if they'd bribe him enough. He'd get told off a lot, but he'd always be able to crash there if shit turned south for him.
at 19, he became Lester's caretaker and hotel hopped. After that it's pretty unclear.
Vincent.
Vincent had a hard time landing a home at first. he was taken away from his brothers pretty fast and distraught, which made him anxious and hard to click with for searching parents. Made him feel like a dog in a pound, tail between his legs and head kept low cus he was scared for his fuckin life.
eventually an older couple from Britain took him in. He was shocked. They were such a sweet couple and took him in, welcoming him with open arms. Mask and scarred face and all. They weren't scared, if anything they were sad for him. They were a weller off couple and so there were nannies when they weren't around and some cleaners who's visit now and then.
But the nannies were less than nice at points and cleaners avoided him and his room entirely. He was the quiet weird kid with the wax mask a deranged couple just had to take in after they lost so much
he was horrifically insecure and shut in, refusing to go to public school and outright crying in fear when it was suggested or offered. This couple wouldn't push him, in fact they swaddled him a little too much. But they showed him love with no expectations of perfection on his part.
I feel like Vincent's trauma with trust and doc isn't talked about enough. Sure, he was their prodigy, but imagine what they did or what they said when he messed up. Trudy made him a mask and taught him early on that he was a freak, to put it simply. And he adored his momma, he doesn't realize she fucked him up.
Vincent was 17 with long mussy hair and tired eyes but a warm home and a heart full with a still foreign and genuine love. He's just gotten some of his works accepted into an exhibit and commissions lay in his email. He's starting college early that fall when he turns 18. Life is good.
then he gets a call from Bo. They're home in ambrose, Lester's home fucked him up bad.... and they miss him.
he drops everything for his brothers at a moments notice and leaves everything behind for them. he's always been the selfless and somewhat impulsive with the best intentions brother.
Lester.
like his brothers, Lester got a busy environment. He didn't understand the situation he was in, he was too young. All he knew was a bright loud white truck took their momma away and he couldn't see his brothers. Why? why couldn't he be with them?
he was shy and confused, and so desperate to be loved. He didn't know that either, though.
his home was in a trailer park. a younger couple who couldn't have their own kids. Lester was called cig kid cus of his new family's smokin imprinted on his clothes. and he didn't understand.
He didn't understand that the bigger kids weren't really his friends when they'd leave him in a ditch in the nearby woods and throw mud at him and call him dirty Lester. he didn't understand that they weren't his friend even as they pushed him too hard on a rope swing and he broke his jaw, losing his only adult tooth at the ripe age of 10 and permanently fucking his lower mandible.
the only comfort he found was in the street dogs around. He'd take his snacks and find them, offering them scraps and love, warmth, friendship. What he didn't have.
Eventually the family friend got in contact with Lester's folks. They talked and Lester got to talk on the phone with his eldest brother for the first time in years. He almost didn't recognize him, but he had the biggest smile on his face and the fattest tears rolling down his cheeks as he sat with his knees drawn to his chest. The calls were frequent, bo finding pay phones as he wandered to find himself just to call his little brother. He'd read Lester the few letters Vincent managed to send. He'd let his shitty friends talk to his little brother, some of them calling him little man and asking if he had a girlfriend yet.
then the casual drinking between his folks got worse. The drunken have turned into screaming and barefoot Lester would grab a blanket when it got too much and wander outside. He'd curl up next to his favorite stray old lady, a pittie with clipped ears and a scarred muzzle he named yams. He'd lay next to her and share his blanket for the night, and he felt protected by her in return.
then he made that call. Lester was 12 and sobbing into the phone to bo that his folks had yelled at him and hit him and it hurt and he didn't understand again- why do people who say they love him hurt him?
bo made the five hour drive, picking up a shaking and still terrified Lester in the dead of night. The scared little runt begged to take yams- she was old, needed a friend like him- and dammit bo allowed it.
she'd pass a couple years later, and now her homemade dog tags the brothers made together hangs around Lester's neck right above his heart. The place her kind love had touched.
these brothers deserve sm better istg.

what if the hamefura cast turned into big cats
My very first fanfic idea for this fandom.
Geordo: Golden lion, quite handsome. Too obvious.
Alan: Silver lion.
Katarina: Leopard, which is the best climber out of the big cats. Was considering making her a lioness. Geordo would have gloated.
Keith: Leopard. To match with Katarina. I had originally considered making him a mountain lion but I decided I liked the idea of Katarina and Keith matching, as the other sibling pairs do.
Nicol: Black panther, sleek. Smallest of the males. Along with Geordo, this is the other too-obvious choice. Thereâs even a scene where he fantasizes being a black cat in the series!
Sophia: Albino panther, white-furred and red-eyed. Smallest of the group.
Mary: Tiger, coat very orange - largest of the group. Inspired by her orange dress and flower, and then when I realized the tiger is the rival of the lion...this has to happen.
Maria: lynx. Originally was planning to make her a strawberry leopard, playing up her rarity, but wanted to make her slightly different from the others to reflect her being the only light-user/commoner in a group of elemental/nobles. So sheâs an Iberian lynx - the most endangered cat species in the world. Pale yellow coat with dark spots, a luxuriant ruff and tufted ears.
Scrap of fic below the cut.
The annoying thing, everyone agreed later, was how quickly Geordo adapted. While everyone else was wobbling about on new legs and getting startled by new tails, yowling in disbelief and then yowling again because of the sound of the yowls, Geordo was already fully settled into his new shape, as if he had always been able to shift between being a golden prince and a golden lion. He was laying down - most regally - paws crossed decorously in front of him. His white-tipped tail swished lazily behind him as he watched the others wobble and yowl and leap around the room.
It really was most annoying. Everyone suddenly felt a surge of empathy for Alan, who was currently shaking out each of his limbs in an attempt to get used to his new body. Alan was a lion, like his brother, but silver where Geordo was golden - rangier than his brother, with thicker fur and a more unruly mane.
Keith and Katarina now looked, ironically, like twins, more alike than Geordo and Alan had ever been. The Claes heirs were now black-and-gold leopards, the only difference between them being Keithâs greater size and weight. Even the patterning of the dark rosettes on their golden fur seemed oddly similar.
Mary was eyeing Geordo judgingly - and, as her eye was currently that of an enormous tigress, there was a good deal of implied threat in that. Mary was delighted to find that as a tiger, she was larger than Geordo - she was, in fact, now the largest member of their group, and all of that size was muscle and bone.
Nicol was snuffling worriedly at Sophia, who did not in the least need it, as she was delightedly examining the tip of her own tail.
- Katarina reciting âTiger tigerâ to Mary, who is delighted. - When Geordo pouts, she recites something about lions
Sophia, pouting herself, asks for something but Katarina says, âSorry but I guess we leopards just arenât as poetic as lions and tigers.â Nicol pauses. âWe leopards?â âOh yeah! I read it somewhere - black panthers - and white ones, too, I guess! - are really leopards, or jaguars, with different coats. See - â she said, nudging Nicol and then Sophia in the side. âYou have spots like me and Keith! Just harder to see,â she chirped. âWe leopards,â Nicol repeated, pleased. âDoes this make us a pride?â Sophia squealed. âThatâs lions,â Geordo pointed out. âAnd as Katarina is my fiancĂ©e, she is a member of my pride....â
***
It was because I read an anthology scanlation where Katarina imagined them all as dogs, LOL. I...ran out of ideas where to take this so this is far down on the list of my WIPs to work on, if ever I do, but I thought since I had done work on it Iâd post it anyway.Â

Welp I can't find a date so I'm just sitting here hoping your call for ideas didn't come from a long time ago - ANYWAY I am absolutely craving hijack so if it tickles your fancy, a prompt from the hijack discord: "My dog is really into your dog, and maybe I"m also pretty into you, stranger." :D
OH MY GOD I FORGOT TO PUT A DATE ON THE POST. *FACEPALM* SO sorry for that. You were totally in time, though, so it's all good. Now it's my fault for taking so long getting these requests filled. XD;;
Just in case it's not clear Aurora = Light Fury. <3
As a rule, Jack didn't take Aurora to dog parks. Not because he had anything against them, but because Aurora could be kind of... fussy. Around other dogs. And people. She had trouble interacting with them properly, so dog park experiences were usually stressful for her, which in turn made them stressful for Jack. Persnickity or not, Aurora was his baby and he didn't like to see her unhappy.
But the vet said she needed to be socialized more so she wouldn't be as jumpy and timid, so here he was, walking his white-with-blue-eyes husky down to the local dog park for the first time in probably two years. She didn't seem nervous yet, but he certainly was. He wasn't looking forward to having to explain his dog's anxiety issues to a bunch of strangers. Again.
Thankfully when they arrived at the dog park there were only a few people there. That was good. That meant it wouldn't be too overwhelming for Aurora (or Jack)... or that was the hope, anyway, as Jack tugged Aurora through the gate and unclipped her leash, only to have her turn and look at him as if he'd lost his goddamned mind.
"I know. I'm sorry, but the doctor says it's important." Jack told her seriously, ignoring the fact that she was, in fact, a dog, and couldn't understand a word he was saying.
Aurora continued to stare at him like he'd betrayed her for another long, long moment before finally turning to look out across the park, her ears back and her tail tucked between her legs, clearly Not Happy with the situation. All four paws remained planted firmly on the ground-- she clearly had no intention of moving.
Jack stood there contemplating what to do with his downright ridiculous dog until, a few minutes later, another dog came running over, tail wagging furiously as it approached. "Ah," Jack had to stop himself from shooing it away because this was the point of coming to the dog park in the first place.
The other dog, a black lab with a stubby tail that looked as if it had been cut off halfway down and wagged so fast it was liable to fly off, stopped just short of Aurora, bouncing excitedly on it's front feet. Aurora backed up a step, but the stranger dog persisted, hopping up-and-down and making strange motions with it's head, all the while yipping and whining in the back of it's throat-- and Jack was just starting to think he should intervene after all when Aurora abruptly sat down in the grass. Then she lifted one front paw up and just kind of... planted it on the lab's nose, effectively stopping it's movement and noise in one fell swoop.
Jack was just marvelling at Aurora's sudden ability to handle herself when a voice called out; "Toothless, bud, I've told you a thousand times--!"
Off to the side, a young man was trotting over, carrying a cell phone in one hand and a red leash in the other. He stopped when he got to them and waved the hand with the cell phone in greeting, giving an unfairly charming, lopsided grin. "I'm so sorry. Toothless just gets excited, he doesn't mean any harm. Is your dog okay?"
Jack was so distracted by the green of the stranger's eyes that he almost forgot to respond. After a too-long pause he shook himself out of it, fully prepared to have to explain his dog's particular brand of neurosis, but when he looked down again... Aurora was standing up, sniffing at the other dog-- Toothless-- and actually engaging. Jack blinked a little blankly.
"I, uh... I actually think she might be good."
"Oh good," the stranger gave a sigh of obvious relief. He must have had some bad experiences with Toothless' enthusiasm in the past. He shoved his phone into his pocket and ran his fingers through auburn hair absently. "From over there it looked like your dog was freaking out. But... yeah. Looks like they're actually making friends!"
"Aurora," Jack told him, looking up from where the dogs were still sniffing each other, Aurora's tail slowly untucking from between her legs. "Her name's Aurora." A smile. "I'm Jack."
"Hiccup." His smile was returned with a wide grin, "and you've already met Toothless."
"Yeah," Jack shifted on his feet, eyeing Hiccup with interest. Thirty seconds in and he was wondering if this guy was single. Had it really been that long since his last date? "Are you aware that your dog is magic?" At their feet, Toothless had lowered the front half of his body down to the ground, tail wagging, an invitation to play, and, astoundingly, Aurora was tentatively taking him up on the offer. "Aurora never plays with other dogs."
Hiccup laughed at that, "Toothless can't get enough of them. Though he does seem particularly keen on her. They must just smell right to each other."
Jack nodded, then; "do you guys come here often?"
"Every couple of days, unless it's raining. Sometimes even then. Toothless has a lot of energy." Hiccup grinned, and Jack thought he might melt into a puddle. "What about you? We've never seen you here before..."
"No, uh... Aurora's dog thing keeps us away from parks, mostly." Jack admitted, "she's really not comfortable." Having just said that, he looked down to watch Aurora chasing Toothless in circles in-and-around their legs as if to prove him wrong. "If it was just Toothless, maybe, but I hate to freak her out, even if the vet says it's good for her."
"If it was just Toothless?" Hiccup tilted his head to the side-- then grinned again and pulled his phone back out of his pocket. "Gimme your number and we can get together." He said, and Jack tried to ignore the way his ears burned at the suggestion. Hiccup looked at him for a moment, then added almost slyly, "you know, for the dogs."
"Yeah," Jack agreed as he stepped closer to hand over his phone number, "definitely for the dogs."
Aurora and Toothless (only Toothless has green eyes.) <3

ăWithout Envyă- concubine/sleeper agent!wwx & prince!lwjÂ
[story board 1] [story board 2]Â Â [story board 3]Â Â [story board 4]Â
long post: story board 5 â
Lan Wangji, as it turned, was a true gentleman. This was problematic for Wei Wuxian, who was tasked with getting close to him, because Hanguang-wangâs upstanding morals being rather unimpeachable rendered Wei Wuxianâs initial seduction efforts entirely unsuccessful.Â
Lan Wangji straight up ignored him. Whenever he came to visit Jiang Yanli it was always to speak with her and not Wei Wuxian. It was like Wei Wuxian, or A-Xian as he was known, did not exist to the prince. Whenever Wei Wuxian tried to âget closeâ to him, aka, making himself available to serve tea, meals and such, Lan Wangji would always dismiss him, or tell him to wait outside so Lan Wangji and Jiang Yanli could dine together alone. Needless to say, Wei Wuxian was getting increasingly frustrated. Entirely unbeknownst to Wei Wuxian however was the fact that Lan Wangji had noticed him from the start and was just trying to stop himself from doing something inappropriate. Truth is, Lan Wangji first saw Wei Wuxian at Jiang-fu during one of Lan Wangjiâs visits to finalize the marriage between himself and Jiang Yanli.Â
It was the dogsâ barking that got Lan Wangjiâs attention first. That, and a young manâs agitated cursing.
âFuck - ow! Princess that was not nice! Iâm going to turn you into barbeque if you donât cut this shi - Ow! Jasmine, give it here!âÂ
Lan Wangjiâs personal guards Guo Ai and Sun Ting made to investigate the source of the ruckus and to tell off whoever dared to be so impertinent and disrespectful in a marquisâs manor, but Lan Wangji stopped them with a subtle gesture. Â
Slowly, he approached the round archway looking into the garden and saw by the shrubs a handsome young man cradling a fuzzy tiny thing while trying his darnedest to fend off two relentless hounds. âShoo, shoo, go bother your master!â
But the dogs wanted to play. Their bushy tails wagged happily. Â
Eventually, the young man tired of the over enthusiastic canines, picked up a stick off the ground, and tossed it far over the garden walls. The dogs took off running, and he and the little creature he protected were allowed a momentâs peace.Â
âLittle tutu, itâs okay, the mean dogs are gone now. Donât be afraid.âÂ
It was only then that Lan Wangji saw that the furry round thing was a small bunny, probably driven from its burrow by the aforementioned hounds that belonged to Jiang-xiao-gongzi. He watched, slightly transfixed, as the young man lifted the bunny and gently booped its nose against his own, his comely face scrunching up adorably in the process.Â
So when Wei Wuxian arrived at the princeâs estate with Jiang Yanli, Lan Wangji cursed his luck. He had no intentions of becoming attracted or attached to anyone in his harem. His marriages were political games. Everything he did in his harem was calculated. The last thing he needed was for the Jins to think they could sink their claws into him. So he kept company with all his concubines equally, just to maintain the balance. Lan Wangji did not want Jin Ziyan to be the only man in his harem, which was why when Qin Su offered him Mo Xuanyu, he did not refuse. It was fortunate that Mo Xuanyu himself seemed eager to serve too, so Lan Wangji did not have to grapple with ethics there. He was doing this for his country; everyone knew this. As long as he kept to his duties and divided his attentions equally, there would be trouble in his harem. Except...Lan Wangji wanted to see âA-Xianâ again. The more he wanted, the more he made himself keep his distance. He recognized the power dynamic that existed between this servant and himself, and that if he were to ask, A-xian was not really in a position to refuse. Besides, Jiang Yanli made no indications that she wanted her A-Xian to serve Lan Wangji. In fact, she seemed quite protective of him, always looking out for him wherever she could. She practically treated him like a little brother than a servant. As such, Lan Wangji was happy with the way things were. He could live with never knowing A-Xian more intimately. In fact, he did not want A-Xian to be ordered to serve him, or find out that A-Xian was just like every other man and woman in his harem, there to curry favours with him. It would be a shame if he turned out to be just another flower in the garden, another player in this game they played. Â
Of course Wei Wuxian read this whole situation as: that little bastard Lan Wangji doesnât like me. Xue Yang was charged with being Wei Wuxianâs correspondence between Gusu and Qishan but ended up just being the guy Wei Wuxian complained to. ââIs this Hanguang-wang truly a paragon of virtues???â Wei Wuxian raged. âArenât princes supposed to be lechers? Wen Chao certainly is a sleeze. Wen Xu could be too for all we know. Iâm young, fit, attractive and available. I know he likes men so why not me? He sleeps with Mo Xuanyu all the time apparently âŠIs Mo Xuanyu more attractive than me?!â Xue Yang: >_> God I miss murders.Â
Wei Wuxianâs âopportunityâ came when Jiang Yanli fell mysteriously ill about three months after she married Lan Wangji. When the physicians were left scratching their heads, Wei Wuxian quickly took the matter into his own hands. He needed Jiang Yanli alive; if she died before he made an impression on Lan Wangji, he could be sent away back to Jiang-fu and threaten his entire operation. Whatâs more, Jiang Yanli had been extremely kind to him in the last two years since he arrived at Gusu. She truly was the perfect lady; he would hate to see her suffer. Through some crafty investigations, Wei Wuxian discovered that the cause of Jiang Yanliâs illness was a slow poison being laced into her food by Jin Ziyanâs orders. The motive of his actions were obvious enough; ever since Jiang Yanli married in, Lan Wangji seemed to be showing her extra favour, favours which he never distributed unevenly prior to her entering his household. Jin Ziyan did not want Jiang Yanli as a competition. She was a marquessâs dichu daughter, much higher in rank than either Qin Su or Luo Qingyang, and therefore posed serious threat to becoming Lan Wangjiâs legal spouse. In a way, she was Jin Ziyanâs biggest competitor, and he couldnât have that. What Jin Ziyan didnât know was that Lan Wangji visited Jiang Yanli so much because he wanted to catch glimpses of Wei Wuxian, even though he dismissed Wei Wuxian from the room every time he saw him (the man was clearly a masochist). Wei Wuxian managed to sniff out the poison before it could cause lasting damages, but the effect of it was going on for long enough that Jiang Yanli still had an early term miscarriage before she even knew she was pregnant. Wei Wuxian, incensed by Jiang Yanliâs suffering, was ready to expose Jin Ziyan, but was ordered not to by Wen Zhuliu. âWe still need Jin Ziyanâ was his reasoning. Still, Wei Wuxian managed to tip off the investigators such that they detected and put an end to the poisoning, but the culprit was ultimately never caught. As this played out, Wei Wuxian realized that now was his chance to get close to Lan Wangji. With Jiang Yanli recuperating...surely the Jiang family would want someone else of their clan to serve Lan Wangji in her place, someone who could keep Lan Wangjiâs attention but would not replace Jiang Yanliâs place in the harem. It did not take much to lead Yu Ziyuan to the same conclusion. To ensure that he would have ample time with Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian secretly slipped a special sedative into Jiang Yanliâs food and drink to mimic the symptoms of a slow recovery. The sedative was one of Qishanâs secret formulations and could not be detected by Gusuâs finest doctors. But Jiang Yanli, bless her heart, did not want the boy who sheâd come to see as a little brother to be used like an object. "A-niang, I don't want to force A-Xian to do things he doesn't want to. I will get better, dianxia will not abandon me." â Yu Ziyuan tsked, "Silly girl, serving Lan Wangji in your stead is his entire purpose for coming with you. Every family must plan for something like this; someone to hold onto Lan Wangji's interest while you're indisposed. Men are fickle, child. You need time to recover and someone will need to remind Hanguang-wang that you still matter when youâre ready again. We cannot let him forget you. Think of what this would mean for our clan." Much to Yu Ziyuanâs delight, Lan Wangji came to check on Jiang Yanli while she was visiting, and Madam Yu had no qualms making hints that it would be the Jiang familyâs honour if Hanguang-wang allowed âA-Xianâ to serve him while Yanli recovered. Wei Wuxian did not protest. Why would he? This was his orchestration after all, but when he dared raise his gaze from the floor to look at Lan Wangji, he detected a hint of something in Lan Wangjiâs faceâŠsomething like disappointment. Wei Wuxian relayed this to Xue Yang and the other evil gremlin sucked on a candied apricot and said with a roll of his eyesïŒ ââYouâre so dense, shixiong, tsk. Men like Lan Wangji could have any man or woman he wants. If you go along with Madam Yuâs orders, youâll just to be like everyone else, another ambitious servant trying to socially advance. Heâll fuck you and forget you within a blink of an eye.â â Wei Wuxian sipped his liquor and grimaced. âFine, what do you suggest I do then? â Xue Yang smirked, âOh, havenât you heard? Men like roses with thorns. When youâre brought to him tonight, donât play along. Donât humour him. Refuse him.â â Wei WuxianïŒ >_> Is this how you got those Daoist priests in bed with you? â Xue Yang smirked shamelessly, âWorked, innit?â
Listen, Lan Wangji was fully prepared to have some emotionless sex with Wei Wuxian okay? Boy was prepared to just go through the motions. He was disappointed to know that A-Xian turned out to be no better than any other servant in his harem: eager to climb his bed.
Being a concubine was stupid work, Wei Wuxian realized belatedly. After dinner, Jiang Yanli bid him goodbye with worried eyes as the momos and gugus of Hanguang-fu dragged him away to be bathed and prepped for the princeâs enjoyment later that night. (gugu, momo - older female servants)
Wei Wuxian was not a dirty person - sure, he worked hard, but he bathed regularly - they did not have to scrub that roughly. As they practically scrapped off a layer of skin, the momos rattled on and on about how he should âconductâ himself in the presence of dianxia and how he should position himself to best please him.Â
What the actual fuck. Wei Wuxian resisted the urge to pull a face. Did the ladies get the same banal talk? How fucking boring was the sex around here? Wei Wuxian wasnât born yesterday alright? He knew how to fuck. ...Well fine, he didnât, but he and Xue Yang had sucked each other off once or twice, so that should count for something.Â
Once the attendants were satisfied with the state of him - hair brushed, skin cleaned and lotioned, callouses removed - they rolled him in a large full-body sized blanket, placed him in a sedan and ordered the servants to carry him to Lan Wangjiâs chamber.Â
Wei Wuxian tried not to make an exasperated grimace when the servants literally picked him up like a log and deposited him on the princeâs large bed.
Fucking...seriously?Â
He did not remember this bullshit when zhangjie married in...but then again Jiang Yanli did marry in. There was a ceremony and everything. Lan Wangji was very respectful that night, bowing to her before lifting her veil as a gentleman ought to. So what the fuck is this barbaric treatment? Just as he pondered on these questions, the tulle canopy parted, and Lan Wangjiâs handsome face and broad chest came into view. Undressed to his inner most layer of robes and his ink black hair let loose, he looked very much like a man ready to ravish his new concubine, but somehow, Wei Wuxian could not detect a trace of interest on that jade-like face.Â
Despite knowing this was all an act, just a means to an end, Wei Wuxian shivered when Lan Wangji reached for the edge of the blanket that encased him.Â
He pulled the blankets closer, shrinking deeper inside.Â
âDonât be afraid,â said Lan Wangji. âI wonât hurt you.âÂ
Time to act, Wei Wuxian. Give it your best shot.Â
âIâm not afraid.â âThen why do you hide?â Wei Wuxian waited a meaningful second before meeting Lan Wangjiâs gaze dead on and said, âBecause I donât want to.â Nonplussed, Lan Wangji raised an elegant eye brow in return. âOh? Is that so? Or are those just words? Perhaps you've confused what kind of place a harem is. If you do not want to, why are you here?â
Is my act not convincing enough or is this stupid asshole so confident in his attractiveness that he thinks everyone must automatically want to fuck him? Slightly ticked off now, Wei Wuxian sat up, still holding the blanket to his chest and retorted hotly, âI am not confused, dianxia. Perhaps you are unable to comprehend the idea that someone as lowly as a servant would refuse when given the opportunity to ascend in rank, but nevertheless, that doesnât change my position. I don't want to. I am here because Lianfang-jun appointed me; there was hardly any room in that decision for me to argue. If you are determined to have me, I will not resist, because I understand my place. But I am a person, not a thing or a broodmare for you breed. I have some dignity left, and at the very least, before you...before you hold me down and fuck me, I want you to know."
Wei Wuxian half wondered if his act had gone a little overboard. The expletives maybe were just a tad too dramatic, but then again... Â ...seeing how Lan Wangji's entire stance shifted, maybe not.Â
Lan Wangji withdrew his hand. He had mistaken Wei Wuxianâs initial unwillingness as coquettish posturing, but the heat in those dark, bright eyes could not be faked.Â
âThose words could get you into a lot of trouble when spoken to the wrong person. Have the momos not taught you the rules?âÂ
Wei Wuxian squared his shoulders. âThey have, but I place trust in Hanguang-wangâs reputation, that you are a true gentleman and would not force me against my will.â Then, just as he practiced, Wei Wuxian lowered his eyes. âI am a servant, your servant, and I know it is my duty to serve you in any way you command me, but I -...please find other use of me, dianxia, but not this.âÂ
He startled a little when a warm hand found purchase under his chin and lifted up his face. Lan Wangji inspected him wordlessly with those cold, sharp eyes, searching for lies, for pretense. Wei Wuxian held his breath, praying he wonât be found out, but eventually, when the prince and his calculation deemed him good enough, he let go.Â
âVery well.âÂ
Lan Wangji fetched a pair of clean inner robes and trousers from the wardrobe and handed them to Wei Wuxian. âGet dressed and move over.â Without waiting for Wei Wuxian to respond, he sat himself down on the edge of the bed and began to remove his socks and shoes.Â
Wei Wuxian moved quickly, shrugging on the robes and tied it in place before shoving the trousers under the covers to try and pulling them up his legs. âYouâre...youâre not leaving?âÂ
Lan Wangji glared at him over his shoulder. âThis is my room, my bed. Why should I leave?âÂ
Right. Right.
âBut youâre not...sending me away?âÂ
Lan Wangji frowned as though questioning his intelligence. âWould you like me to send you away? I should think that would reflect badly on you and your mistress.â  That did give Wei Wuxian pause. âUh, well ââ  âYour declining to be my bedfellow does not impede my fulfilling my side of the arrangement. You will leave in the morning, and the others will think that I found you pleasing enough to keep you the whole night. That should give Jiang-fuâren and the Yunmeng Jiang clan sufficient face."  âI could sleep on the floor.âÂ
âDo you want to sleep on the floor?â Lan Wangji swung his legs onto the bed and arranged the blankets to his liking. âThe doors are never locked. Servants and sentinels must be allowed in to check on me during the night for security purposes. It would not bode well if they found you lying on the floor.âÂ
Right, yeah that would defeat the whole purpose.Â
âOh.âÂ
Lan Wangji lay down and crossed his hands over his chest. âLie down, sleep. I have morning court assembly, and Iâm tired. If youâre going to stay, donât be a disturbance.âÂ
Feeling like heâd lost all semblance of control in this situation, Wei Wuxian awkwardly laid himself down beside Lan Wangji. The bed was big enough for the two of them that there was space in between even when both of them lay flat on their backs.Â
Lan Wangji lifted up just a second to blow out the bedside candle, and then there was total darkness.
Wasnât I suppose to seduce him? What the fuck is this? Okay...maybe I have no idea how to seduce him...maybe I have no idea how to do anything thatâs not straight up strangling him in his sleep.Â
Wei Wuxian could feel his heart thudding in his chest, panic coiling tighter and tighter. He almost wished Lan Wangji had ignored his protest and took him, because then itâd be straight forward. As it were, he had no idea how to proceed now.Â
Just as Wei Wuxian was being slowly consumed by his maelstrom of thoughts, Lan Wangi suddenly spoke into the dark.Â
"I am not a heartless bastard, you should know."
Huh?Â
"I never implied that."
âYou did.â Lan Wangji gave a little shake of his head. âI do not want this anymore than the others in the harem. You said I treat my women like broodmares, but perhaps you have not considered that Gusu treats me like a stallion."  Wei Wuxian was momentarily speechless.  âYour mistress is very kind and gentle. I am sorry that the child in her belly was lost; I know she very much wanted to be a mother. I see that you are very protective of her, so you should know, I would never hurt her. Even if she were to never recover her strength, I would not let harm come to her.â  Those words, softly spoken, tugged at Wei Wuxianâs conscience, if not his heartstrings. âDianxia -â  âSleep. Good night.â
The next morning Wei Wuxian woke up to knocking on the door. The sun was already high in the sky and the bed was empty of Lan Wangjiâs presence. A group of maids entered carrying a basin of water, towels and clean clothes. Wei Wuxian, dazed, asked, "Where's danxia?" One of the maid giggled. "Dianxia left at dawn to attend morning assembly at the palace. You must not know; he wakes up very early. He said not to wake you, and to let you sleep. He said," The others giggled with her. âHe said that you've had a long night."
To the great surprise of everyone, Lan Wangji did not elevate Jiang Yanliâs servant A-Xian to concubine status after the âlong nightâ they had together. Instead he ordered A-Xian to be transferred to his court to be his close-quarter attendant, to serve him in his every day tasks. Wei Wuxian did not exactly understand why Lan Wangji would make this particularly decision, but he did not complain. After all this was exactly what he wanted, to be close to Lan Wangji and earn his trust. Lan Wangji, on the other hand, was content to have Wei Wuxian close by, secure in the knowledge âA-Xianâ did not wish to spread his legs to socially advance. Perhaps, if he dared to hope, he could finally have someone to speak to in this lonely manor full of people who only saw the crown hanging above his head.
Xue Yang was of the opinion that this was all going to end badly. He was right.Â

Bones
She-Ra Fanfiction Entrapdak General Audiences Fluff Entrapdak Positivity Week Re-Post due to a blog-move. Day 4 Prompt.  Sleeping In Summary: Entrapta awakens to Hordakâs bony shoulder jabbing into her. He is shivering, having kicked off his blankets. She aims to correct this by wrapping him up! Â
Bones Entrapta dreamed of bones.  Big bones, little bones â they were all digging into her. She had found an ancient First Onesâ treasure â a mainframe-disc, surrounded by an electrical field-trap that had rendered all who came for it corpses, all save her, because she was wearing rubber and had deftly picked around the active parts of the trap - but she was stuck, climbing a hill of bones, being sucked down by skeletons.  She was surprisingly undisturbed when she woke up â in fact, she was rather miffed that the light through the window shone right into her eyes.  That was an interesting dream and she wanted to see where it was going.  The bones dug into her side. Hordak.  He was shifting in his sleep and his big honking bony shoulder poked right into her right breast.  He wasnât in his usual âclone-pod straightâ position, but on his side.  His leg bumped right into her leg beneath the sheet and she made quick work of getting up to avoid his big cold feet.  Hordak had kicked the outer blanket off himself exposing his interesting toes. Horde-clone toes had a character similar to those of a dog or cat â bean-like pads and the feet had a toe built for grasping, betraying ancestry in a bat-like creature.  They were all able to fit neatly inside the same manner of boots that other humanoid species wore, although Entrapta imagined that comfort had been secondary to fashion in Horde Primeâs uniform-designs. It was time to get up and Science waited for no one!  She was just about to nudge her lab partner awake when she noticed that he was shivering. Entrapta grabbed one of the blankets and pulled it over him, instead.  She grabbed the other one that had fallen to the side of the bed.  This was why he was slow to get up; Hordak had spent part of the night only partially-covered!  There was not a stitch of fat on him and although spacebats had a different baseline temperature than standard humans, Hordak got chilled very easily.  The Fright Zone had been fairly static in its weather.  Not so, Dryl.  Cold, gloomy rainy days outnumbered the sunny days.  Today was just such a day.  The bedroom window looked like a waterfall.    Entrapta tucked blankets up around Hordak. He never liked being âbabied,â but she was going to do it, anyway.  Her hair spun around him, manipulating the blankets until Hordak resembled an insect that had been cocooned by a spider, save his head was sticking out, snoring and drooling on a pillow.  Entrapta opened a bedside drawer and retrieved little furry ear-caps sheâd made for him to keep the tips of his ears warm on cold days.  He never wore them because he thought they looked ridiculous, but he was asleep now, so what he didnât know wouldnât hurt him (and it most certainly would help).  A smile tugged at Entraptaâs lips, watching him.  Hordakâs form eased, no longer shivering.  He let out a contented sigh in his sleep.  Yep, he was warm.  This was a side of him that only she got to see â not the dark, brooding would-be conqueror, but more of⊠an adorable-vampire.  Or like a rare rescue-bat, swaddled in a little blanket.  There was important work to be done in the lab today, as always, but the lab partner could sleep in today, as long as he liked.  Entrapta would request her kitchen-staff to prepare a breakfast-in-bed later â with tiny pancakes, quail eggs, bacon cut horizontally into mini-strips, small chunked fruits and berries and of course, a gray ration bar and a vial of amniotic fluid if she once again, failed to get Hordak to eat properly and had to resort to the things he was accustomed to.  When he got up, he would be annoyed at the lost time.  For the moment, Entrapta just watched him sleep in the quiet, crossing her fingers and her hair tails against Imp coming in with a metal spoon and pan.  Thankfully, for everyone involved, Imp decided that it was his day to sleep in, too. äčă€ăźćœ/9 Lives Translation
Hi!! So, @foxy-and-tales asked me to tell her what was going on in the comic mentioned in this post. After skimming through it, I thought it'd be good practice - and it'd be easier to answer her question - if I just went through it and told her what it all meant. I realised by that point I was doing a translation, and since I was going to the trouble anyway, I thought I'd post it publicly.
So, the full comic is here. It's basically a comic that has 7 little stories about Kakashi's ninja hounds and their lives with Kakashi. It's an adorable, heartfelt story and I absolutely love the personalities that the artist gave all the ninja hounds and the depictions of their relationships with Kakashi.
My translation will be this post, follow it as a script. I don't have the skill or knowledge to edit and typeset and change the images myself - and I wouldn't do that anyway, as it would involve reposting the art and changing it without the artist's consent. But I do think that not referring to the pictures as you're reading through the script really harms how sweet this story is, so if you can go through the comic slowly whilst referring to my (amateur) translation of it, I hope you can get a glimpse of that!
WARNINGS: There is a depiction of an already dead dog in part 4 đą, and some (human!) male partial nudity in part 6 (đ)
Tagging: @scaredlittlefoxy @lemony-snickers @backalleykat @whatshernameis @gwedosuns @topsyturvy-dream @ice-icebaby @cosmiclattes
This is also the artistâs note that follows after the comic, that Iâm putting here:
(Artistâs note translation)
"This is a story about the daily life of Kakashi and the eight ninken.
The ninja dogsâ personalities etc mightnât be faithful to the source material.
The dogs live free range in Kakashiâs house.
There is an illustration of a dog dying, though it isnât any of the ninken. Please take note.
You donât have to read it, but below this are the dogsâ personalities:
Shiba: Friendly and sensitive
Biscuit: Childish and Selfish
Akino: Calm and cool demeanour
Bull: Timid and Quiet
Urushi: Ladykiller. A little bit dim. (Note: Himbo!)
Guruko: Annoyingly helpful and naggy
Uhei: Pure-hearted and cheerful
Pakkun: Same as in the series"
Some notes and then onwards into the translation under the cut:
Please take heed before continuing:
Iâm not a professional translator, in fact Iâve done very little of this, so thereâs some guesswork and liberties taken, and I don't claim that that thereâll be no mistakes.
Iâve separated it out by sections and pages, so you should be able to follow the story from following the speech bubbles (right to left) and referencing the lines here by speaker
Each space between a line denotes that itâs the next speech bubble
A new line but no change in speaker will denote that itâs the same character talking, but in the next panel or speech bubble
Italics means the character is thinking or flashbacks. I'll try and make this obvious as I go but the artwork should make that clear too.
Brackets are my additions, or me translating things like signs etc, or brackets will have smaller background dialogue not in speech bubbles. I'll try to make this clear as I go.
Stuff surrounded by * denotes actions or onomatopoeic actions/words in panels
Ask me if thereâs any parts that confuse you about the story!! The way Iâve done this isnât easy to follow but it's the best my dumb brain could come up with
TRANSLATION:
Title page
(p.1)
ăăăźă€ăźăăźăĄ
9 Lives
(p.2)
1. âI wonât tell anyoneâ
(SFX: dogs playing and wagging tails)
Kakashi: Hm? Youâre not gonna play, Shiba?
Shiba: âŠNo. âŠHey, Kakashiâ
Kakashi: Hm? What?â
Shiba: Thereâs a girl I likeâ
Kakashi: Ohhh⊠I wonât tell anybody.
I wonât tell ~ I wonât tell ~
(p. 3)
Shiba: Sheâs really cuteâŠ
Kakashi: Thatâs great ~
Shiba: But I havenât even spoken to her once
Kakashi: You should go for it ~
(SFX: *happy dog panting*)
Shiba: Iâll come back as soon as Iâve talked to her!â
Kakashi: Yep!
Shiba: Iâll be right back, definitely!
Kakashi: Ok, ok (lit. Yes yes)
(p.4)
Shiba: Sheâs already got someone (lit. sheâs already in a couple/has a mate)
Kakashi: I seeâŠ
Shiba: She said her mate hurt his leg and canât walk so he's staying at homeâŠ
(p.5)
Kakashi: Shiba, you know.. have feet that can walk anywhereâŠ
So maybe youâll meet an amazing girl again, wonât you?
(*dog cries*)
Kakashi: ...I wonât tell anyone. (*Comforting doggy*)
I wonât say anything. I wonât say anything.
(Kakashi: Aw, Shiba is pretty sweet to me, huh?)
2. Biscuitâs Sausage (note: I know his name is technically Bisuke in Japanese, but Biscuit is his dub name and itâs too adorable so thatâs what Iâm going with here! Also suits the personality he has in this story. What a biscuithead this boy is)
(p.6)
Biscuit: -Youâre so sneaky, Kakashi! I wanted to eat sausages!
*crying dog noises*
(Uhei: Sorry, KakashiâŠ
Guruko: I told you!!)
Kakashi: You know if you eat sausages, Biscuit, your tummy will get sick, right? Iâm boiling cod for you right now
(*tantrum noises, pounding feet and barking*)
Biscuit: *angry puppy noises* I hate fish, you idiot! I said I want to eat sausages! Sausages! Sausages!
Kakashi: *sternly* Biscuit
Biscuit: *whimper*
(p.7)
Biscuit: Kakashi, you IDIOT!
(2. Biscuitâs Sausage)
Biscuit: *sniff*
(Sign says Konoha Pet Food)
Biscuit: This is the store that sells the dog food Kakashi buys! Wow, maybe they have sausages here too!
(p.8)
Biscuit: I wonder if I'll be able to eat as much as I want⊠*gulp*
But if I did that, Kakashi would get in trouble
No, maybeâŠ
*heart pounding*
Kakashi kept it (this) a secret just from me, because I'll get sick...
(Apron says Konoha Pet Food)
Shop Lady: *shuffles*
Biscuit: I didn't do anything yet!!! * heart pounding*
Shop Lady: Oh my⊠you really just talked!
Shop lady: Youâre Kakashiâs pup, arenât you?
(p.9)
Shop lady: Kakashi got you to come here, huh?
(Shop lady: youâre a good boy!)
Bisuke: Oh, no-
Shop lady: Though, he shouldn't have made you come pick it up without contacting us, huh? Here, sausages!
Biscuit: Sausages?!
Shop lady: Thereâs a pup among you guys that canât have normal sausages, right?
It was a request from Kakashi.
He said he wanted me to make some especially for the puppy who canât handle meat.
(p.10)
Shop lady: Well, here you go!! Youâll tell Kakashi weâre sorry for making him wait, wonât you?
Biscuit: Oh, um⊠But I donât have any moneyâŠ
Shop lady: Itâs fine, because itâs Kakashi!
Whenever he has free time, he comes to pay.
I have a deal with him, you see. And he can't get the food if he's not here...
Next time, come together with Kakashi, okay?
(p. 11)
Kakashi: *casually picks up Bisuke* Thank you! This is for you ~
Shop lady: Thank you, come again!
Biscuit: KakashiâŠ
Kakashi: Hm?
Biscuit: SorryâŠ
Kakashi: YeahâŠ
Iâm sorry too. I gave everyone else sausages while keeping it a secret from you.
I thought youâd definitely want some if you sawâŠ
(Kakashi: But I got caught.)
(p. 12)
Kakashi: ButâŠ. Everyoneâll want some if they see this, too.
How about stopping by the park and eating it there?
Weâll keep it a secret from everyone đ
Bisuke: *happy face licking and barking* When we get home, Iâll eat the cod too!!
Kakashi: Uhh⊠Well, Uhei and Guruko already ate itâŠ
Bisuke: WHAT?!!!
(Flashback, Uhei and Guruko saying âCod! Me too!! Me too! I want to eat some too!â)
3. Kakashiâs smile
(p. 13)
*paws thudding on ground/running away*
Kakashi: âŠGot you.
Akino: Ack!
Itâs always only me that you brush so roughly, Kakashi!
Kakashi: It canât be helped, can it? You have the thickest fur, Akino
*brushing softly* Itâll be over soon, itâll be over soonâŠ
Other doggies: That seems nice to me, AkinoâŠ
Kakashi: Hey, itâs falling out, itâs falling out ~
Akino: !!!
Kakashi: Look, itâs a mini Akino!! So much furâŠ
Akino: Thatâs too much hair off the bottom, Kakashi! WhaâŠ
(p. 14)
*Kakashi continuing to laugh at his mini Akino*
Akino: There are times now where Kakashi summons us, even if he doesnât have any business for us to take care ofâŠ
(Back then) he never ever summoned us outside of missionsâŠ
(p. 15)
Akino: He was doing all kinds of things, but he was the kind of person who never had a smile on his faceâŠ
Kakashi: If I had more time, I could make an even hairier one, you know
(Other dogs: *laughing* Akino: Thatâs a lie!)
Akino: KakashiâŠ. You're having fun?
Kakashi: *genuine smile* Yep, I am!
Akino: *smile* If you feel like it, you can keep goingâŠ
Kakashi: Oh?
(Later, Akino notices Kakashi has put sunglasses on the mini Akino)
4. Timid Bull (CW Animal Death)
(p. 16)
Bull: Iâm the last ninja hound that came to Kakashiâs home.
Before that, I was living in a training centre for ninja hounds.
(4. Timid Bull)
The dogs I lived together with there⊠were all adopted when they were puppies.
But I still lived at the training centre, even as I became fully grown.
Ninja Hey, that dog looks tough, doesnât he?
Centre manager: Yes, but⊠heâs not all that suited for battlingâŠ
Despite how he looks, heâs actually a timid dog.
Bull: I⊠Iâm scared of insects. Iâm scared of noises.
Iâm scared of blood.
Centre manager: Because he can understand the stories of troubled humans, you seeâŠ
Bull: Iâm scared of anything other than myself.
(p. 17)
Bull: Nobody would want a dog like me, right?
Kakashi: I found a good boy ~
Bull: *panicking* Thereâs no manager here!
Kakashi: Hello ~
Bull: âŠHello⊠*heart pounding*
Kakashi: Ah, one that talks, huhâŠ
Would you like to become one of my pups?
(p. 18)
Bull: MeâŠ? Me, really? Quit it⊠Thatâs enough joking around.
Kakashi: What do you mean?
Bull: No-one wants me (đą)
Kakashi: No-one?
I want you, though.
Bull: What kind of a strange person would want me, I thought
(p. 19)
Bull: There were lots of dogs at Kakashiâs house
(Happy barking doggy noises)
Uhei: Woah, youâre huge! But among these guys, I have the fastest legs, you know!!!
Guruko: And I have the best nose!!
Biscuit: And Iâm whiny!! (Note: lit. âIâm selfish!â)
Shiba: I have the sharpest bite!
Pakkun: I am the wisest. (Note: Pakkun I think uses Kansai-dialect Japanese lol so he sounds kinda... distinct. This is hard to convey for me lol)
Urushi: Iâm popular with the ladies ;)
(Akino: Iâm the fluffiest!)
Bull: I was so confused
You⊠youâre not scared of me?
Iâm huge, and I have a scary face⊠So no one comes near me.
They all said they werenât scared.
The reason, they said together, wasâŠ
(p. 20)
âBecause Kakashi brought you, Bull!â
Everyone was totally relaxed, as if they had no worries at all.
They all clung to me as if it was completely natural to do so.
I realised that thereâd always be someone beside me.
(p. 21)
*sounds of paws scuffling against ground in first two panels*
*jumping to the ground noise in third panel*
Kakashi: âŠBull, this way is a dead end.
Bull: âŠSorry.
I couldnât go back to where you were, and I thought so, but -
(p.22)
Bull: *looking at dog* He asked me to stay by his side.
âŠHe was an enemy, but he was already dying.
Thatâs why, KakashiâŠ.
Kakashi: âŠYep.
Letâs give him a send-off together.
(Note: this was a tricky one because Kakashi says éă, which means send, and is used with mail etc, but can mean to say farewells to the deceased, which is why Bull comments on it on the next page)
(p. 23)
Bull: He wanted to say âI want to bury himâ
But Kakashi said âsend-offâ.
Lightly, as if his life force was still there
There⊠there are a lot of things that scare me.
When I was waiting for this dog, I was scared.
But I couldnât refuse his request.
(p. 24)
Bull: âŠIâm spineless.
Kakashi: Everyone else has lots of things theyâre scared of, you know.
Thatâs why they all stay by your side, Bull.
If youâre there, everything will be alright. Thatâs how everyone feels.
If youâre close by, everyoneâs able to feel safe.
(p. 25)
Kakashi: âŠ.This puppy, too.
Dying dog: âŠPleaseâŠ
Bull: That dogâŠ
Dying dog: Stay with me, until the endâŠ
Kakashi: Because you stayed with him, Bull, he felt at peace, didnât he?
Bull: I donât think that dog was happyâŠ
âŠKakashi.
He was very thin, and he also smelt like he was sick
To protect themselves, his owner didnât treasure this [this dogâs] life.
Kakashi, IâŠ
Somehow, I..
Iâm veryâŠ
(p. 26)
Bull: I wanted to cry out as loud as I could..
Kakashi: Yeah⊠(Iâm not sure whoâs saying this line)
Bull: For feeling guilty towards that dog, and for knowing KakashiâŠ
For my life being here now.
For my life, I wanted to cry it out until the blood came out of my throat.
(p. 27)
Bull: That dogâŠ
I wonder, was that dog ever able to feel like this, even once?
(Flashback) Doggies: Because Kakashi brought you, Bull!
Uhei: Hey!!! Bull!!
Shiba: Youâre late!!
I was worried, you know!
Guruko: (to others) Hey, Bull came back!!
Bull: Iâm Bull. The dog that Kakashi found.
5. Urushiâs scales
(p.28)
Urushi: I think Iâm good looking
(5. Urushiâs scales)
Girl pups: Ahh~ UrushiâŠ~
Urushi: Iâm popular with the ladies
(note: he uses ăĄăč, which means bitch in the literal sense - a female dog - and all the puppers use it to refer to human women too. So I just left it as ladies, as I don't think the pups mean it to be crass, they just use dog language and apply it to humans as well as themselves)
Sometimes Iâm told âitâs probably because youâre one of Kakashiâs ninkenâ, butâŠ
(Background lettering over the other dogs says âUnstylish/Uncool/Lameâ)
But my other friends arenât all that popular, really.
Still, I think itâs because I really am good-looking after all.
(Choruses of âUrushi~â, âAhhâŠ; and âLetâs play together, Urushi)
Urushi: HeheheâŠ
Being good-looking is a great thing.
Guruko: Hey, Kakashi!
(p. 29)
Guruko: You got hit by a girl again, didnât you?!
Kakashi: *laughing* NoâŠ
Akino: Why were you hit by a girl? Do girls not like you?
Uhei: It looks like it hurtsâŠ
Kakashi: Nooo ~
Shiba: Youâre so strong, Kakashi, why were you hit?
Biscuit: You couldnât avoid it?
Guruko: *Steam from nostrils* Iâll fight her for you!
Kakashi: Itâs fine, itâs fine ~
What are you saying?
(p. 30.)
Urushi: Kakashi said âI took responsibilityâ.
Sometimes humans say things I donât understandâŠ
Girl dog: Urushi⊠pair up with me.
Urushi: If Kakashiâs saying it, it must be importantâŠ
Be⊠Because Iâm one of Kakashiâs ninken?
Girl dog: It has nothing to do with that. I like you, Urushi
Urushi: Wow⊠*heart pounding*
Girl dog: Pair up with me, andâŠ
I want you to leave the ninken. (Lit. Stop being a ninken)
(p. 31)
Girl dog: I love you, Urushi, but what if, on a mission, youâŠ
I canât stand the thought of that!
Leave the ninken, and⊠always stay in the village with me?
Urushi: This girlâs a beauty, and has a kind personalityâŠ
I think that I might want to be with herâŠ
Should I leave the ninken?
(p. 32)
Urushi: *perplexed*
Kakashi, Bull and Biscuit: *zzz, sleeping sounds*
Urushi: If I said I wanted to leave the ninkenâŠ
Kakashi: (in Urushiâs imagination) If thatâs what you want, Urushi
Itâs fine with me! (Background: It would be a shame, thoughâŠ)
Urushi: I feel like Kakashi would say something like thatâŠ
Do I want to do that Not really, but⊠*sigh*
Hey, Pakkun.
(p. 33)
Pakkun: Something bothering you?
Urushi: Yeah, there is
I have to decide between two things, but itâs difficultâŠ
I want both of them, but I canât have them.
Pakkun: ⊠Is it a girl problem?
Urushi: Yep ~
Pakkun: Thatâs just like you, Urushi. (Pakkunâs imagination shows two girl pups arguing:
Urushi!! Which one will you choose, me or her?! *indignant barking*)
When making a decision about something, one needs to think about whatâs most.
...important to oneself.
Letâs say you balance both sides on your scalesâŠ
Urushi: My scales?
Pakkun: For exampleâŠ.
(p. 34)
Itâs not the physical weight, but the weight of what you think is precious and important. Itâs the weight of those feelings.
If you think about which is heavier, youâll find the answer.
Kakashi: You guys are having a kinda complicated conversation, huh
Pakkun: Oh, Kakashi, you woke up, did you?
Urushi: *heart pounding*
Kakashi: My scales lean towards sleep, you know..
Letâs eat soon, okay? PleaseâŠ
Urushi: KakashiâŠ. Are you happy that Iâm here?
(p. 35)
Kakashi: Hm? Yeah, Iâm happy!
Urushi, of course Iâm happy ~
(Note: the word Kakashi uses is ćŹăă, which is âureshiiâ so Kakashi is making a pun with Urushiâs name here.)
Urushi: *blush* Okay!
Pakkun: What we were just talking about⊠Donât talk about it in front of Shiba.
Urushi: Huh? Why?
Pakkun: Seems like he recently had his heart brokenâŠ
(p. 36)
Urushi: The thing thatâs most important and precious to me⊠isnât you.
Thatâs why I canât be with you.
I canât be with you, but⊠youâre a beautiful and amazing lady.
So, letâs meet again one day ~
Biscuit: Kakashi! Kakashiiiii! Itâs awful!!
(p. 37)
(*throbbing pain*)
Biscuit: Urushiâs hurt!!
(*dogs barking*)
Guruko: Letâs go fight them!! *steam from nostrils*
Shiba: No way, is it a girl? Kakashi, you better tell him off!!!
Kakashi: Did you get into a fight with a dog from the village?
Urushi: No, itâs not thatâŠ
I took responsibility.
Iâve got a manly mark on my face, heh~
Shiba: You better tell him off!! *bark*
Pakkun: Thatâs itâŠ
6. Kakashiâs Helper Team!
(p. 38)
Kakashi: Iâm home~!!!
Guruko: ?!!! Kakashi, you stink!!
Kakashi: *sweetly smiling* Oh, stop itâŠ
I saw Asuma after a long time, and we talked and ended up getting some drinks⊠It was nice to see him⊠*flops down on floor*
Guruko: Take a bath!!!
Donât go to sleep!!
(*soundly sleeping*)
(p. 39.)
Guruko: Uhei! Uheiii!
Uhei: What is it?
Guruko: Letâs clean up Kakashi!
(6. Kakashiâs Helper Team!)
Uhei: Ehh⊠But if he wakes up, heâll take a bath himself, wonât he?
(SFX: Heave-ho! Heave-ho!)
Guruko: We canât leave Kakashi as he is when heâs this stinky! Itâs fine, take it off!
Uhei: Uh, this is stuck half way, I canât take it off
Guruko: Because you havenât taken off his leg bandages!
(p. 40)
Guruko: Damn, this is stuck half way *pulling*
Uhei: Isnât that because you havenât taken off his headband?!
Guruko: This is enough, letâs carry him to the bath like this!
(*dragging noises*)
Uhei: Wonât his clothes get wet?
Guruko: Itâs fine, because weâre going to wash them anyway!
Uhei: Itâs amazing⊠Kakashi still hasnât woken up!
Guruko: Okay, letâs wash him!
Uhei: Isnât that⊠the shampoo that we use?
Guruko: Itâs totally safe!!
If itâs fine for us to use, itâll be fine for Kakashi too, right?
Uhei: I guessâŠ
(p. 41)
Uhei: We can wash his body, but what about his clothes?
(SFX: *scrub scrub*)
Guruko: If we wash them together, itâll be fine! Hey, pour some hot water over here ~
Uhei: Okay!
(SFX: *splash*)
Kakashi: *suddenly yelling* Iâm gonna die!!
Guruko: *screaming*
Kakashi: Even with my face covered, if you pour hot water on me, I canât breathe, you know!! You really canât do that.
Guruko: You woke upâŠ
(SFX: *heart pounding*)
Uhei: You really scared meâŠ
(p. 42)
Kakashi: Youâd started something, and I wondered how far youâd carry on⊠Ah, Iâm drenched.
Guruko: Ah, Iâm sorry, Kakashi!!
Kakashi: Well, anyway.. you guys ended up cleaning yourselves pretty good too. Youâre all drenched, too.
Guruko: Then Iâll go get some towels!!
Uhei: Kakashi, Kakashi
Guruko acts the way he does, but he really loves looking after you!
Kakashi: I know.
Biscuit: I want to have a bath with Kakashi too ~
Guruko: Thatâs not it! Itâs just all slippery (note: not accurate, but the gist is that Biscuit misunderstands and Guruko puts him straight)
7. Iâll always love you
(p. 43)
(Flashback)
Sakumo: PakkunâŠ
PakkunâŠ
I have a favour to ask.
(Present)
PakkunâŠ
(SFX: Snoring)
Kakashi: Pakkun..
(SFX: Gasp)
Pakkun: Huh?
Kakashi: Itâs time to eat.
(p. 44)
Pakkun: Alright.
(Other dogs: Food~ Food ~
Kakashi: Yes ~ Yes ~)
(Flashback)
Sakumo: PakkunâŠ
PakkunâŠ.
Pakkun..
(p. 45)
Pakkun: Kakashi?
Kakashi: Hm?
Pakkun: For the mission report before⊠You didn't need me, did you?
Why did you bring me?
Other dogs: We want to come too!!
Kakashi: Itâs just Pakkun for today
Kakashi: HmmâŠ
Hey, letâs relax here for a little while.
Pakkun: Whatâs thisâŠ
Kakashi: Come onâŠ
WellâŠ
(p. 46)
Kakashi: I want to talk about Dad.
âŠNo. Maybe itâs a confession?
Talking about DadâŠ. Felt like something we couldnât even broach. Ever.
I think you felt this way too, right, Pakkun?
I couldnât tell you earlier that âitâs all right nowâ. Even though it was.
It was just a matter of timing, I guessâŠ
Pakkun: But I wasnât waiting for you to say that⊠Even if youâd have said it earlier, thatâd have been good, but..
Why, out of the blue like this?
A change like that⊠Just likeâŠ
Just likeâŠ
(p. 47)
(Flashback)
Sakumo: I have a favour.
(Present)
Kakashi: The day Dad diedâŠ
Ever since then, for a long time, now⊠I became strange.
Iâve been nothing but trouble for you.
Pakkun: Kakashi-
Kakashi: Even though⊠you were hurting over Dad not being here too.
(p. 48)
Kakashi: Dad was your first master, right?
You really were precious to him.
âŠ.The other day, when you were having a nap, I woke you up, didnât I?
It might have been because of the food, but your nose was twitching.
At first, I thought you were growling.
When I woke you up, you had a really startled expression when you looked at me.
I understood right away.
You were thinking about Dad, right?
(p. 49)
Kakashi: You were having a dream about Dad that time, right?
Thank you for always being considerate towards meâŠ
But itâs alright now.
From now on, I want you to tell meâŠ
The things about Dad that only you know.
(p. 50)
Pakkun: SakumoâŠ
(Sakumo: PakkunâŠ)
Pakkun: âŠreally was a loving, kind man.
Kind, andâŠ
(Sakumo: PakkunâŠ)
Pakkun: Kind, andâŠ
âŠKakashi.
Iâll tell you about Sakumo.
The things Iâve always wanted to tell you
Iâll tell you now.
Kakashi: Okay.
(p. 51)
Kakashi: Thank you for telling me about Dad, Pakkun.
Pakkun: âŠDonât you dare die.
(PakkunâŠ)
Iâve had enough now.
Yeah. Enough.
(p. 52)
(Sakumo: Iâm asking.âŠ)
Pakkun: SakumoâŠ
The two of you are exactly alike.
Kakashi: Oh, really?
Pakkun: Everythingâs alright now.
(p. 53)
âKakashi!â
(p. 54)
(No text)
(p. 55)
Kakashi!
(p. 56)
Kakashi
(Note: I think the favour Sakumo asked of Pakkun was to take care of and be mindful of Kakashi always. This isn't outright stated)

So I was reading someones post about what if Jon went back in time to save everyone, and he managed it. He kept Martin away from Prentiss, he Kept Sasha alive, Tim never even know the unknowing existed and he never had Jons paranioa to ruin him. But They never knew, there was never those moments of bonding between the terror. Martin never had that moment when he realized Jon wasnât just his shitty boss. And sure the assistants were close, but there was no room for Jon. And it gave me thoughts.
Under the cut bc I started to Ramble and it got Long, warning; its Big Sad Hours down there. No happy endings here.
Jon solves all these problems before they start, he fixes it without anyone ever knowing. The assistants are blissfully unaware, maybe he stops sending them on ârealâ statement followup. The archives are a normal, safe job for all of them. Sometimes it gets too much, pretending he doesnât know them. So heâll record, mostly for himself. Sometimes for them, though heâll never share. He sticks them all in Gertrude's old storage locker, where he knows theyâll never be found.
And then something goes wrong. He knows the unknowing canât work, of course it canât. But Nikola doesnât, none of the avatars know. And Nikola still wants her skin. She still wants his skin, actually. And sheâs not afraid to play dirty to get it, sheâs hands-on like that. Because why stop at the archivist when heâs got so many lovely ignorant assistants?
So he fixes the problem before she can make good on her threats, she canât be killed that easily. He knows. But she died during the unknowing, and there are some pretty simple steps to follow to replicate that result. He knows the easiest way to make sure it works is also a death sentence for him. But thatâs a simple choice to make. Alright no, itâs not. Heâs terrified of death, of dying. He doesnât want to die, but he can lie to himself. He can delude and say maybe heâll get another chance. And just in case, he makes sure the assistants know they can quit now.
Tim, Sasha, and Martin donât know what to make of the news that their boss died mysteriously in an explosion. They know even less what to make of the notes he left them.
Clearly the ramblings of a very unstable man. They all knew Jon was a bit off but this... Well, they all know thereâs something weird about the job. But the apocalypse? Really?Â
Sasha believes some of it, sheâs worked in artifact storage. Sheâs seen what this stuff can do. But, well. Jonâs never come off as the most stable person, and with no proper proof to back up any of this thereâs no reason for them to follow suit. After all sheâs known lots of people to quit the institute, she even knows for a fact that Eric Delano did it when she was rooting through employee records for perfectly rational legal reasons.
Then Martin gets called up to Eliasâs office, and gets the news heâs the new head archivist.
He tries to turn it down, but heâs offered a pay-raise and a promise that he can step down anytime if he doesnât feel suited to the position. Elias just sees so much potential in him.
Martin tries to feel flattered and not thoroughly terrified by the way Elias says potential. He takes the promotion, after all, he can always step down if itâs too much.
He offers as much when he finds out Sasha probably should have been given the position, but she turns him down. Itâs not his fault their boss is a sexist old bastard, and at this rate heâd probably just turn around and give it to Tim.
Things are normal for a few months. Until slowly a strange noise starts to be heard around the archives, a weird sort-of squishing sound with no source. Along with a metallic scent of meat.Â
An infestation, of course. Theyâre getting the problem worked on, or so Elias says. But aside from the occasional exterminator coming in to âtake a lookâ nothing ever seems to change. Weird statements start showing up on Martins desk, surrounding meat and twisted up things, eaten alive and wrong. Suddenly he understands how Jon went off his rocker so easily.
Itâs hard to believe all this supernatural stuff as itâs suddenly getting crammed down his throat, after so long of the archives being normal in almost every sense of the word itâs like missing a step on the staircase. The more awful statements he finds- that Tim and Sasha confirm -the more he realizes how much his boss was hiding from them.
He wants to quit, he thinks about it, he tries to think about it. But he just, canât.
Itâs another or two month before it happens. Meat and bone and gristle erupt from the floor, taking on horrible mangled shapes of almost-humans reaching out with hands full of teeth and hungry.
They all survive, though Tim gets eaten up a bit more than the rest of them. And theyâll all have nightmares for the rest of their lives. Theyâre alive.
And they find Gertrudeâs body, though none of them know how to feel about it. Theyâve realized by now thereâs something to Jonâs nonsensical ramblings. And theyâre long past regretting not quitting before this all happened.
Thereâs a section of document storage that got uncovered during the cleaning,an old cot that was shoved behind some of the shelves, and a box that had a few sets of clothes, an old teacup, and a key. The cleaners say they burned the clothes, but the cup and the Key are given to Martin for him to keep to return to whoever left their things in the archive.
Neither of those items belong to Tim or Sasha, so they all assume they belonged to Jon.
They start following Jons footsteps, they find out he was a suspect in an arson case surrounding Carlos Vitteryâs old apartment. Nobody was there except one unidentified body. He was arrested for trespassing on a dock, though no charges were filed. There was an incident that ended in the near arrest of one Jude Perry, though no charges were filed and she soon fell off the grid. And then he exploded using C4 he had no way of getting, Nothing concrete, no proper genuine evidence except a series of weird encounters their dead boss had.
Martin Decides to try and hunt down Jude Perry, it takes some time. He has a very nice cup of tea with one Micheal Crew. Who points him in a general direction and is just a bit weird about tall buildings.
Martin finds Jude, and asks her about Jon. She laughs at him, of course. But she tells him anyway. Jon was trying to have her arrested- no, not arrested. Killed. Officer Tonner would have seen to that, he knew one of the Hunt could do her in, well. At least of Officer Tonnerâs sort anyway. Jude resisted, naturally. He escaped her clutches only barely, by running. Like a coward. And she escaped the policewoman by playing innocent. Sheâs still on her tail though, damn dog. Itâll be a long time before sheâd rid of her, but she knows better than to run. Oh, he doesnât know what any of that means, does he? Oh he really doesnât, how sweet. Just a little baby archivist- she was going to kill him after this. But watching him stumble into his own ruin will be so much more fun.
She sends him on his way with a burn.
Martin is terrified, he genuinely tries to quit. Almost manages it before his computer shuts off. The others try too, and then they all have a lovely freak-out together.
They decide to try and talk to Detective Tonner, which proves easy. Sheâs the partner of the one whoâs been interviewing them. She comes to the institute, and they ask her about Jon. She tells them they believed he was responsible for killing Gertrude, seeing as he was next in line. Martin accidentally Compels her into a statement, and then into admitting she's mostly just saying he killed her because dead men donât put up fights.
She threatens him right then and there, though Basira comes in and intervenes before anything happens. He files a dispute with the station, and avoids the police after that.
Basira brings him some of the tapes, she says itâs an apology. Heâs pretty sure sheâs just trying to get him to drop the dispute in the weirdest way possible. He does learn some about Gertrude though, and through her what heâs dealing with. And something about an âunknowingâ
A man named peter Lukas visits the institute, one of the doners. Elias says he wants to see how the archive runs, Lukas says a few choice words about it. And Martin tells him in the most polite of terms to shove off. Lukas threatens him, and very briefly makes him forget everyone heâs ever loved. And then tells him he got off lucky, and that Elias should have picked a better archivist. You can hardly trust someone so childish to run something as important as this now can you.
Daisy visits him in his home, and threatens him in much more physical terms now. She tells him if he tries to do what he did to her again heâll get more than a scar.
After that itâs a bit unclear how he gets marked by the next two (Curruption, Stranger.) but he does.
Thereâs a delivery, a few weeks after the stranger mark. Itâs not supernatural in any sense, just a young woman dropping off a small box in the archivists office. She says her name is Georgie, and no, she doesnât know whatâs in the box. She just had an old friend tell her to deliver it if he didnât check in after a bit. Then she found out he died on the news, and then she hadnât wanted to deliver them- clearly whatever was in the box was going to get someone killed. And she wasnât scared of it, she wasnât one for fear, but the thought of putting anyone in danger made her skin crawl. But she didnât want it in her house, and she refused to be haunted be this box forever. And there was no reason to defy the poor guys apparent final wishes- wait, why was she saying all this again?
In the box was tapes, a dozen or so of them. All addressed to âthe next head archivistâ
Itâs Jonâs voice, on the tapes. Talking to who he apparently assumes to be an entire stranger, explaining the fears. And how Smirkes 14 wasnât wrong, but wasnât right either. It tells the next archivist to avoid eyes, paintings, doodles, abstract representations, and to keep playing dumb. Thereâs a lot out there, and the more you know the worse it gets. Thereâs no fighting, donât struggle the nets already around you. Thereâs a way out, but youâre not going to like it.
It gives an odd image of Jon, the man who awkwardly tried to make small-talk int he break room, only to shuffle away after it fell flat. Carrying this world-ending secret on his shoulders. Stiff, awkward Jon. Grim, sad Jon. not so far apart but still so far outside of what Martin had known about him.
What had Martin known about him?
Tim decides to quit, Sasha stays. Elias hires Melanie. Who turns out to be another connection to Jon.
Melanie says he was kind of a prick, he belived her about her Sarah incident, but refused to give her library access. Probably because he was sexist, or maybe just a dickhead. Sheâd been trying to learn more about her encounter for ages. And this was finally her chance. They try to explain the way out but she wonât listen.
Martin starts following Gertrudes tapes, things about the unknowing have been popping up on his desk lately, and it sounds like Jon was right about an apocalypse. He goes to america, gets a bit kidnapped, and meets Gerry. He offers to help, and then asks about the unknowing. Gerry points him towards the storage locker. And when he gets back He and Sasha and Melanie check it out.
Itâs mostly empty, apparently somewhat recently cleared out. Though in the corner thereâs a large box of Tapes. There has to be dozens of them, and when they pres play itâs Jon. Talking to them. Except itâs not them, itâs another version of them, and something this version.
And thereâs another Jon to add to the mystery of a man he was. The jon on these tapes isnât stiffly awkward or forcedly professional. Heâs open, sad. He cries, he laughs at memories they donât have. He apologizes, a lot. Too much really. He talks about time travel, about forgetting faces and losing friends.
âSometimes I-I think- I canât help but be a bit... upset. At how unfair it all is. Youâre all happy and laughing and together and iâm-Â
iâm alone.Â
I suppose it must be some sort of- cosmic Karma, I doomed the world so in this new one bright an new I pay my penance in isolation.
Or maybe itâs the other way around. I doom the world- suffer its horrors, and get a little bit of time to taste what humanity would be like.
Or maybe iâm just not that likable without an apocalypse.
Probably says a lot about me either way.
Is it bad that I- I sometimes consider letting things play their course? W-without any of you dying of course I just... I suppose it is bad, to want to end the world because youâre lonely. Just because iâm a bit sad doesnât mean the planet should suffer, no... maybe iâll try and reconnect with Georgie, itâs been... well. No. Perhaps best not.â
Sasha says that if she knew she would have at least brought him out for drinks or something.Â
But they did sort-of know didnât they? Not about the apocalypse, but about the loneliness. After all, nobody chats so awkwardly in the break room because they have a thriving social life.
âIâm going to kill Nikola tonight- iâm not going to die. Iâm not. I didnât die last time, a-and thereâs no reason for that to change. T-there isnât. Iâm going to try and be a safe distance from the blast this time, too. But... Well, itâs not like I have anyone to miss me if I do go.
I suppose... Martin, if youâre listening to this- I... I miss you. You always did say I should be more open with my feelings, and itâs weird. To miss someone whoâs right there. T-to look at a face and see a friend and a stranger. To love someone youâve known for years who doesnât even really know who you are.
Itâs all very stranger, ironic really. Considering what iâm about to do.
I love you, and I miss you. I know youâre not listening, even if I did die youâve probably long since quit. I hope youâre happy, whatever youâre doing. Happy and safe. All of you.Â
And maybe you are listening, maybe... maybe we do become friends, maybe you actually choose to talk to me someday. Maybe I tell you about all of this and... And you donât think iâm mad. Maybe you let me take you out to dinner and weâd be together again. Weâd never be like before- not that thatâs a bad thing what with the eldritch horrors. Thereâd be bits missing, memories we donât share- but, it would still be you... Itâs always been you, I think. And maybe I've decided to give this to you as some sort of silly romantic gesture.
A-and in that case. I love you, Martin Blackwood. More than youâll ever know.
[HE SIGHS]
When I come back, iâm recording over this.â

But he didnât come back. He died that night. He died loving Martin, who never even really knew him beyond passing awkward conversation. Martin doesnât know how to feel about it, besides guilty that is.
The tapes point them towards Georgie Barker, the woman who delivered the other set to the archives.
Georgie doesnât really want anything to do with them, she knows whatever theyâre stewing in got Jon killed. But she tells them about her encounter with The End, though sheâs tetchy afterwards. Martins finally starting to understand this whole compelling business and is feeling pretty sorry about it. He redirects, he starts to ask about Jon. Who he was, really. What she knew he was like.
They talk, Martins curiosity is part Eye and part knowing that someone loved him, really, really loved him. And feeling like he missed out, like he skipped a train he hadnât known was there. And wanting to know what kind of person would- could love him the way Jon did. And why that kind of person could end the world.
They talk, Georgie explains why they broke up (clashing ideals, he didnât believe in the supernatural and her trauma was so inherently tied to it. He was a sleep-clinger and she kicked when she dreamed) And why it took so long for them to break up (Jon was funny once you learned to get his jokes, the Admiral loved him, he had a weird way of caring that was really sweet) they talk about things, Georgie lets him hang out with her as long as he promises to keep the supernatural out of their conversations. And how is Melanie doing by the way?
Sasha has a hard time splitting her time in the archive and helping Tim. He can manage himself of course but itâs hard knowing heâs sitting in her flat alone, heâs getting back into publishing though. Sleeping easier now he knows that not only is he free of the eye, but Jon very much killed the thing that killed Danny. He only wishes he could have been the one to pull the trigger. Sasha is getting more involved though, the eye has itâs own grip on her.
They finally confront Elias. They know it wonât do any good, Jons tapes explained what he was, who he was. But theyâre frustrated. Low on options. Jon never really explained what the apocalypse was- if Martins learned anything from the other tapes itâs probably because he forgot, thought he did somewhere and didnât.
Elias isnât entirely surprised that theyâve figured it out, he knew something was going on. Though he wasnât quite sure what. He claims he knows what oncoming apocalypse Jon was talking about, and that he was likely underestimating the amount.
He sends them to Ny-Ă
lesund. And Martin views the black sun. Gets briefly taken hostage by Manuela. And gets âsavedâ by a man who pops out of a door to stab her.
He says his name is Micheal, and heâs not there to help. He does his whole distortion bit, confuses them. Stabs Martin when he tries to take his statement. Says he was going to kill him, but what happens next might be much better than death. And leaves after stating that heâs very excited to watch how the rest of this plays out.
They go back to the institute, and Elias says he must have been wrong. Oopsie. Anyway the web is planning a ritual you should go check out the spooky house from all these statements.
They meet Annabelle in person, Martin gets marked by the web.
This continues on for the end the slaughter and the buried. They finally confront Elias again about these wild goose chases, he claims innocence but heâs done it enough times they donât believe him. They stop trusting Elias. Not that they ever really did, but they stop listening to him.
Melanie isnât as angry as she was. Though she is still angry. She didnât go to india so no ghost bullet, but sheâs still trapped. Though she knows how to quit, itâs been a scary idea. But the longer she stays the more she realizes how low she is on options. So she quits.
Martin is angry, heâs exhausted, heâs confused. Nothing makes sense. And another one of Eliasâs goddamn doners is visiting. A weird old man who, when he shakes his hand, makes him feel like he just dropped off a rollercoaster at a million miles into empty nothingness. He laughs when Martins regained himself, and says that that tricks better than a buzzer every time.
He visits Georgie again, heâs thinking about quitting. But he canât figure out what the apocalypse heâs supposed to stop is, because according to Jon itâs pretty bad. And heâs the one who can stop, or maybe start, it. But he doesnât know what it is.
He talks to Georgie about Jon some more, itâs funny, to grieve a man you already knew. Except four years too late. Thereâs a sort-of helpless frustration to it, every time he talks about Jon he wishes he could be learning this first-hand. Not from someone who hadnât spoken to him in years before this.
He also finds himself glued to the tapes, he can relate, in a way. To Jons loneliness. To have a person so, so close but so far away. He wishes he could meet the Jon on the tapes now. Then neither of them would have to be lonely. But Jon is dead. And Martin... Martin might love Jon. Jon, who died years ago. A dead man who apparently loved him enough to consider ending the world for the chance to have a real conversation with him.
He goes back to work, frustrated and so, so lost. A million questions that genuinely canât be answered. Thereâs a fresh statement on his desk. Itâs a statement of Jonah Magnus, regarding stopping the apocalypse.
Certainly a goddamn roundabout way of giving Martin information, but heâll take it.
He reads the statement.
The world ends.
Sasha, Tim, Melanie, and Georgie all get their own domains. And wander free in the hills of suffering. Martin is alone, well and truly alone. He ended the world, because he was too stupid and sad to read a few extra paragraphs before starting the tape.
But Jon went back, didnât he? He went back in time and stopped this once. Maybe Martin can too. Maybe he can stop the flesh from attacking, maybe he can stop Melanie from joining the institute. Maybe he can meet the real Jon.
He goes back, he does it. Nobody remembers but him.Â
Nobody remembers but him.Â
And things keep happening he canât have predicted.
Worms, Sasha is gone, Gertrude. Itâs all wrong. And Jon isnât the Jon he knew, he doesnât know Martin, he doesnât even like Martin. Nobody is the person he knew before.
He is alone. And things keep happening he canât have predicted, worms tables and paranoia. He starts recording. Trying to follow in Jonâs footsteps and leave information behind, easier to access this time of course. In his flat, and heâll have the key sent to the archives if something goes wrong. Heâll record until Jon trusts him enough to believe him, Maybe heâll even stop him before itâs too late and heâll never need to find out what happened at all. Maybe he can't get close as he was to everyone, but he can keep them safe.
He doesnât get to finish his recordings, he wasnât careful enough. Jonah catches wind and half the tapes are destroyed when he dies in a mysterious housefire. But whatâs left does get delivered to the archives.
And the cycle continues.

For the Romping and the Roaring- Part 1
Here is my submission for Day 1 of @serpentfever's Inhuman Event!
Link to read on ffn.net
This is part 1 of the story, and the rest of the parts will be posted, one each day, for the rest of the event. Because of the length of this, full story is under the cut. I've provided a little preview of the story below:
Preview
Perhaps the most strange looking thing about the scene, though, was the small boy perched on the badgerâs back. Small black horns pertruded from a head of fluffy blond hair, and long, pointed, velvety black ears wiggled eagerly. Short, splayed fingers gripped the badgerâs shoulders, and his small, webbed wings proved quite the contrast from Zaneâs feathered ones. Perhaps the most noticeable of all, however, was the long black tail that waved behind him, curved fins flaring out at the end of it. And the delighted trills coming from his mouth were definitely anything but human.
Well, maybe it was strange-looking to anyone else. But for Kai, it was just an ordinary day.

Part 1
âWake up, sleepyhead!â
Kai groaned, blinking awake. His sister grinned down at him, her arms dangling in his face from where she was hanging, her spotted tail wrapped tightly around one of the structural beams.
âGo away,â he mumbled, tossing a pillow in her face. âItâs too early.â
âItâs ten am.â
âSo? Itâs not like thereâs anything to do around here, I might as well get my beauty rest.â
âGoodness knows you need it, with that dreaded mane of yours.â
He tossed another pillow at her face, which turned out to be a mistake, because now he was out of pillows.
âWhy do you always have so much energy? Donât you ever sleep?â
She shrugged. âI like to sleep in the afternoons. I guess itâs a leopard thing? Theyâre nocturnal, you know.â
âI know, Nya. Iâve had a half-leopard as a sister for sixteen years, donât you think I would know that by now?â
âDebatable.â
âIâll ignore that comment if you let me sleep for a little more.â
âHave you forgotten what day it is?â Nya chirped, beginning to swing back and forth. âToday Dr. Borg is letting us take Lloyd into the city!â
Kai sat bolt upright. âThatâs today?â
âYes, fish-brain! You should see him, heâs so excited.â
Kai scrambled out of bed, startling Nya and making her fall into the bed with a yelp. He shook his head, letting his mane cascade around his face and down his back. Huffing as half of it fell into his eyes, he wrestled it into a ponytail- part of it, anyway- and walked over to the door, Nya bounding after him. The other four beds in the room were already empty.
Opening the door revealed the same thing it always did. Another room- this one much larger than the last one, but a closed-off room nonetheless- stretched around them. There were a few other doors that led to bathrooms, a room with skylights (made with reinforced glass, of course, so no one could break it, even if they had superstrength) so they could soak in the natural light from time to time, and just some rooms with various activities- paints, notebooks, computers, puzzles, TVs, and all the books and video games they could ever want, or if they just needed some alone time away from the others for a bit.
But none of that changed the fact that the door on the far side of the room was always firmly locked.
In the kitchen, Zane was whipping up a bowl of pancake batter. Tawny-colored wings unfurled from his back, stretching freely now that he didnât have to hide them. The feathered tufts behind his ears twitched as a loud shriek sounded out from the other side of the room.
Kai turned, a purr rumbling in his throat as he caught sight of the large badger lumbering across the room. A small yellow labrador raced after him, barking excitedly.
Kaiâs tail thrashed fondly. Well, maybe it was strange-looking to anyone else. But to him, it was just an ordinary day.
Almost.
âLloyd, youâre here already!â Kai called, hurrying over. The small boy brightened- even more so than he already was- at the sight of him, and leapt into his arms. Kai stroked him gently, and Lloyd purred softly, his long tail thwacking against his leg.
The badger blinked at him, shaking his head, and, in a flash of light, he was gone, a young man sitting on the floor in his place. His curly black hair, with a white stripe down the middle, nearly hid the small black ears poking out. Round glasses framed his dark eyes as he grinned up at Kai, his fangs glinting. The lab jumped into his lap, and the man scratched behind his ears. With a flash, the lab turned back into a teenager, his auburn curls falling into his freckled face.
âAugh, Jay! Get off of me, you lump!â He shoved his friend off of his lap, sending him tumbling.
âHey, Cole, you couldâve asked nicely,â Jay whimpered, even though his golden tail was wagging, and his ears were perked.
âYeah, well next time, donât transform back when youâre in my lap! Having a small dog sitting on me is one thing, a lanky teenager is another.â
âStop acting like youâre so superior! Youâre only four years older than me, barely out of teenagehood yourself!â
âIâm not acting like Iâm superior! Iâm just telling you not to sit on top of me!â
âWhatever,â Jay grumbled.
âHey, guys,â Kai snorted.
âMorninâ Kai,â Jay grinned. âHave a nice lie-in?â
Cole groaned, shaking his head, and Kai shot Jay a glare.
âYou shut up with your damn puns, puppy boy.â
âJeez, apparently someoneâs had his pride hurt.â
âI swear, one more lion pun-â
âFine, fine! I know when my witty quips arenât wanted.â
Jay,â Cole sighed, âtheyâre never wanted. Anyways, you ready for today, Kai?â
âYou bet! They brought Lloyd in early, today, huh?â
âDr. Borg wants us to get him ready and make sure heâs behaving well before we leave.â
Kai raised an eyebrow. âAnd romping around giving him badger rides and riling him up is a good way to do that?â
âAw, come on, Kai, heâll be fine. Besides,â his voice lowered as he went on, âhe deserves to have a little fun while heâs here.â
Kai instinctively tightened his grip on Lloyd. None of them knew what happened to Lloyd when their caretakers took him away at night, apart from the fact that Dr. Borg insisted he was perfectly safe, but, at the very least, he was alone, and sometimes, Kai, with his heightened sense of hearing, could hear him whimpering through the walls. Lloyd hated being alone, and Kai didnât understand why he couldnât just stay with them all the time.
But, like most things, Dr. Borg just kept them in the dark about it.
Not that he was being ungrateful- Dr. Borg had kept them alive.
Issac Borg, son of Cyrus Borg, had taken over his fatherâs company when he had died, and, as head scientist at Borg Tower, had made it his mission to help the few living hybrids left- Kai and his friends. Dr. Borg had told them stories of how the human world rejected anything that was different from them- that they feared those with different blood such as Kai and his friends, saw them as âmonsters,â and would seek them out and kill them if they ever found out their secret.
But Dr. Borg didnât think the same way as the rest of the world. He wanted to protect them, to let them thrive and grow strong. So, he took them in and helped keep them hidden. He had given them work to do, too, not normal work, but things that only they could do. Dr. Borg told them how the world wanted everyone to be the same, and to hide what made them unique, but he said that they should be able to play to their strengths. Their trainers helped them learn how to fight, and to use their unique skills to an advantage. At this point, Kai had a repertoire of fighting skills he was eager to bring to fruition, but it seemed like the time never came to use them.
They did get to use their skills in other ways, though. Jay often went out in the streets in his dog form, his quick and cunning nature allowing him to be a natural pickpocket, with the ultimate disguise. Zaneâs flight abilities allowed him to scope out Ninjago City, and keep Borg posted on the governmentâs actions. Nyaâs agility skills let her slip around nearly undetected, which kept them out of a lot of fights. Kaiâs hearing allowed him to eavesdrop for information, and Coleâs strength and digging skills could break through a lot of walls and barriers.
Except for the ones of their room.
For as much as he loved Borg- he was the closest thing to a father that any of them had- he couldnât help but feel a bit like a prisoner, trapped up in here. He just wished Borg would trust them more.
Kai was eighteen now. He was old enough to keep himself and the younger ones out of trouble.
Which Borg is depending on me to do today, he reminded himself. The others had gotten the hang of how to behave outside of the tower by now, but Lloyd was still so young and often needed reminding. And it was no secret the little oni, dragon, and human tribrid was especially clingy with Kai. It was his job to keep him under control and on his best behavior.
I can do this. I will prove to Borg how trustworthy I am.
âPancakes are ready!â
His thoughts were interrupted as Zane chirped at them from the kitchen. Lloydâs warm, comfortable weight vanished from his arms as he leaped to the ground and scurried towards the kitchen island on all fours, climbing up the barstool to perch on top. He clicked and chirred brightly at Zane, his red eyes glinting hungrily, and the falcon hybrid bit back a grin at his expression.
âUse your words, Lloyd.â
Lloydâs expression dimmed slightly, and Kai frowned. Lloydâs reluctance to use human words was probably what worried him the most about integrating him into society. But Zane had been practicing with him ever since he could crawl, and if anyone could get him to speak, it was Zane.
âCan I have pancakes? Please?â
âYes, Lloyd, you may.â
Zane slid two chocolate chip pancakes onto his plate. The sweet scent of the pastry drifted over to them, and Kai felt his mouth water. Jay, Cole, Kai, and Nya bounded over to the island as well as Zane served them the food. Jay jumped up and dashed towards the cupboard, grabbing out a container of rainbow-colored sprinkles.
Lloydâs eyes practically glowed as he grappled for them. Jay laughed, and sprinkled a handful onto his pancakes. Lloyd chirred delightedly and hurriedly began to devour his breakfast.
âJay, donât give him more sugar. Heâs going to be impossible when we go into the city.â
âYouâre the one watching him, not me,â Jay chirped.
Kai put his head in his hands, sighing.
âItâs okay,â Zane assured him. âA little milk can go a long way to calm him down. Here Lloyd,â he pushed a sippy cup of milk towards him, âdrink some of this.â
Lloyd worked on the milk as the rest of them ate, and, by the time they were all finished, he was looking a lot less feral. Zane was a lifesaver.
Nya glanced at the clock. âItâs almost time to go. We should start getting ready.â
They walked over to the closet where they kept all their gear. The large, loose sweaters allowed them a place to tuck in their tails, and, for Zane, his wings as well. As Kai helped his friend to adjust his coat to properly hide all the feathers, Nya pulled the sleeves of hers longer down her arms, hiding the light rosette spotting there. She had been able to pass it off as a tattoo before, but they really didnât want to take any chances, especially not with Lloyd along this time.
Cole began to help Lloyd with his jacket, but the young boy swatted his hands away. âI can do it.â
âYou sure, bud? It can be tricky-â
âI do it. I do the buttons.â His ears twitched as he ran his fingers over the smooth objects.
While Lloyd worked on the jacket, the rest of them shoved hats over their heads, Kai, with some difficulty, getting his over his mane, but when they turned back to Lloyd, now sporting his lopsided-buttoned jacket, there was evidently a large issue, and it wasnât Lloydâs button job.
âWhat are we going to do about his tail,â Jay asked. âThe rest of us have the self control to hold ours under our coats for the time period, but heâs four, heâs not gonna be able to do that.â
âAnd itâs so long,â Nya pointed out. âI remember having a lot more trouble with my tail than any of you guys did, and Lloydâs less than half my size!â
âDidnât we used to tie it up when you were younger?â Kai asked.
âWhat?â âHere,â Kai pulled a scarf out of the closet. âCâmere, Lloyd.â
The child bounded over to him, and Kai picked up his tail in his hands, examining it. âHmm. Flexible enough.â Folding it back on itself a few times, Kai used the scarf to tie it up firmly, and then pulled the coat down over it. âThat should hold for quite a while.â
Lloyd bared his teeth at him, and Kai winced. âSorry, I know itâs not the most comfortable thing, bud, but we got to do it, okay?â
Lloyd started to grab for his tail, but his small arms couldnât reach it. Kai stopped him, nonetheless. âHey, bud, donât. Iâm not kidding, okay?â
Lloyd huffed dramatically, before pacing towards the door.
âArenât you forgetting something?â
Lloyd glanced back, his eyes narrowing as he caught sight of the small hat Kai was holding in his hands. He squwaked loudly, trying to scramble past him, but Kai swooped him up in his grip. Lloyd hissed and struggled, although his body was trembling with the familiar vibrations Kai recognized as playfulness. This was a game to him.
âLloyd,â Kai growled through gritted teeth, tightening his grip on the squirming bundle, âJust put on the hat. Itâs not the end of the world.â
âNo!â
Well, that was one word he knew quite clearly.
Kai jammed the hat onto his head, but Lloyd quickly shook it off and jumped away, scrambling under the couch to hide, his red eyes glowing eerily in the darkness, his pupils narrowed into thin slits.
âLloyd,â Kai said, letting an authoritative tone slip into his voice- which wasnât something to be messed with, when you were part lion. âThis is not an option. Either you wear the hat and behave, or we donât go out at all.â
Lloydâs eyes blinked, and after only a second, he was scurrying back out and reluctantly letting Kai pull the hat onto his head.
And not a moment too soon- Kaiâs ears twitched as he caught the sound of movement behind the big, blocked door. His head whipped towards it, and the others quickly picked up on him, revving their gazes towards the door, too. After a few moments, they began to hear it, too. Jay cocked his head anxiously, Zane adjusted his coat, Cole pushed his glasses further up his nose, and Nya narrowed her eyes, grabbing Lloydâs hand.
The door slowly swung open- Kai had to resist the urge to dash out- and revealed four of their caretakers- Liam, Noah, Rahn, and Kelsey. Kai let out his breath, slowly.
âAre you ready to leave, children?â One of them, Liam, asked. His gaze flitted between each of them, scanning them carefully. He stopped on Lloyd, his eyes narrowing, but if he had a problem, he didnât voice it. âYou look wonderfully human. A job well done, and not an easy one, Iâm sure.â
âYes, but appearances are only the beginning,â Kelsey pointed out. âYou must make sure you are all on your best behavior, especially the muta- Lloyd. You all have learned a lot from your human behavior lessons, have you not?â
They nodded, and Kai added, âIs Dr. Borg not going to see us off today?â
âHeâs a very busy person, Kai,â Rahn reminded him. âYou children are lucky that he makes as much time for you as he does.â
Kai dipped his head, falling silent.
âDonât worry, heâll probably check in with you when youâre back,â Noah assured. âFor now, we can escort you. Are you ready?â
Yelps and purrs responded him, and Noah shot them a sharp glance. Kai felt his ears droop shamefully as he responded, in sync with the others, âYes, sir.â
âThen letâs go.â Noah beckoned for Cole to follow him, who was closely followed by Jay, then Zane. Kai and Nya went last, Lloyd bounding between them. His eyes were both bright and wary.
Rahn cleared his throat as they passed, and Nya bent down to Lloyd, whispering, âTwo feet, bud.â
Lloyd grumbled, but obliged, taking his hands off the ground and standing up on just his feet instead. His steps were a little wobbly, so Nya and Kai each grabbed a hand. That made him look a little less grumpy about the situation, at least.
The caretakers led them down the floors of Borg Tower, and for the first time in weeks, Kai saw people, more than just doctors and scientists and caretakers, at least. Employers at Borg, but these ones werenât the higher up, didnât know their secret. Wary glances were shot at them, but it was probably just because they were wondering what a bunch of kids were doing in Borg Tower, not because they were secretly a bunch of weird monster mutants that had to hide everything about them because no one trusted them and people wanted to hurt them, and they just wanted to be normal kids-
The point was, it was nice to be looked at like a kid, for once.
And then, there were windows, and then-
They were outside.
The little skylight in their room couldnât bring justice to this. Sunlight streamed around them, bright and cheery and welcoming, and the crisp autumn air tickled his cheeks. There were people everywhere, not Borg employees, but just regular people, talking and laughing with each other. No one was staring at him, conversing in hushed whispers, or telling him off for smiling too much and showing off his fangs. There werenât any trainers scolding him, or doctors whisking him off to yet another appointment, and most of all, there werenât any walls.
Kai felt like he wanted to cry. It wasnât his first time out, Dr. Borg let them out every so often, butâŠ
It had been way too long.
Although he knew that, however bad it was for him, it was worse for Lloyd. While they got to go out every month or so, Lloyd only rarely got cleared to come with them, and he had only been allowed to at all about a year ago. Dr. Borg said it was because he was too young, although Kai swore that he could remember him and the others going out more often when they had been Lloydâs age, with adult supervision, of course.
Sure enough, Lloydâs eyes were as wide as saucers as he gazed around, taking everything in in that quiet, attentive way of his.
âExcited, Lloydster?â Kai asked him. âWanna go to the mall?â
Borg had given them a fairly sizable chunk of money- after all, being the owner of the cityâs largest science organization didnât exactly leave him with empty pockets- to spend as they pleased (as long as it wasnât anything too outrageous, and their bags and pockets were to be searched before they reentered the tower,) so they went shopping at the mall. Lloyd obviously wasnât so enthralled with Macyâs, Barnes & Noble, or Hot Topic, so the ninja took turns with Lloyd while the others went shopping. When Kai was with him, he spent a lot of time going up and down the escalator. Kai was worried the behavior might be unusual among humans and draw attention to them, and although they got a few odd looks, after a little while a little girl named Raina started running up and down the escalator with him. Kai had frantically apologized to her mother, but she just laughed, telling him âkids will be kids!â Kai had allowed himself to give her a tentative smile, and had been reluctant when he had to leave with Lloyd. The woman, Jessica, had given Kai her number if Lloyd ever wanted to get together.
Kai didnât have the heart to tell her it could never happen.
After they finished shopping, the group stopped for lunch in the food court, then headed to the park and chatted while Lloyd ran around.
The afternoon was peaceful and cool, and it was all too soon when he got the call telling them it was time to go back.
âHey Lloyd, time to go, bud.â
The look that flitted across Lloydâs face made his heart break. âCan we⊠can we come back tomorrow?â
âI donât think so, bud. Iâm sorry.â
âOh.â
âWe can watch a movie when we get home, bubs. You wanna do that?â There was a shake in Nyaâs voice as she spoke, and he knew she hated this as much as he did.
âCan we watch⊠the one with dinosaurs?â
âWe can watch whatever you want, bubs.â
The walk back to Borg Tower was grim and quiet. The silence was only broken when Lloyd pointed at the fountain in the town square, as they were walking past.
âLook!â he called, leaning over the side to peer in. âThereâs so many shiny things in there!â
âPeople throw their coins in fountains,â Zane told him.
âWhy? I use my coins to buy a lollipop,â Lloyd giggled.
Kai crouched down next to him. âThey say that if you throw a coin in the fountain, you can make a wish.â
Lloydâs eyes were wide. âA wish? Like what?â
âI donât know. Anything you want, I guess.â
Nya crouched down on the other side of him, slipping a penny from out of her purse. âYou want to make a wish, bean?â
âYeah.â Lloyd took the coin and closed his eyes. He was silent for a moment, before tossing it in. They watched it sink, down, down, down, until it hit the bottom.
On the way home, Jay spoke up. âWhat did you wish for, bud?â
Lloyd was quiet for a moment.
âIf I tell you, it wonât come true.â
---
After their caretakers looked through their bags, they brought the group up to the room. The walk was a quiet one. The unasked question in all of their minds hung on the air- they wanted to ask if Lloyd could stay the night, just this once. The boy had been eerily quiet since the fountain, not even protesting when he had been searched, and Nya was holding him gently in her arms now. He wasnât asleep, but his eyes stared off into the distance, his mind obviously elsewhere.
Dr. Borg himself met them at their door. âMy children! How was your day out? Were you on your best behaviour?â
âYou already know,â Nya muttered.
Borg frowned. âWhat was that, dear?â
âNothing.â
Kai cocked his head at her, and she gave a tiny shake of her head, her glare telling him, not now.
He stared her right back, the message clear. Weâll talk later.
âIt was good, Dr. Borg, but we were just wondering- would it be okay if Lloyd stayed the night with us? Heâs pretty tired, and it would just be for one night-â
âZane, Iâm sorry, but Lloyd has a very important doctorâs appointment tonight-â
Out of the corner of his eye, Kai caught Lloyd stiffen, gripping tighter to Nyaâs shoulder. A low growl sounded in her throat, and she brought her hands up protectively around him.
âAnother doctor, Borg?â Kai snapped. âThatâs the third one this week. Is there something wrong with him? Something youâre not telling us?â
âOf course not! Kai, calm yourself. What reason do I have to hide Lloydâs medical records from you? Nothing is wrong, we just want to do some more testing. As you know, we give you all frequent checkups so that our doctors may learn more about you and your bodies. Lloyd is even more unique than any of you, so unfortunately, that just means more appointments.â
âHeâs not a test subject,â Nya growled, âHeâs family.â
âI never said he was! He is just as much family to me as he is to you!â Borgâs voice softened. âNya, I know you are protective, but I am doing this for Lloyd. Knowing his body better will help us to help him better in the future, if he is to ever get sick or something.â
Nya wilted. âI know. Iâm sorry.â
âItâs alright. I know you mean well. Now, câmon, Lloyd, itâs time to go.â
Lloyd wailed as Borgâs assistant tried to pull him away from Nya, and he clung to her as firmly as his fingers would allow, which, for someone of his genetics, was pretty tight. Eventually, Kai had to step in.
âLloyd, please. Let go. Weâre just trying to help you.â
Lloyd released Nyaâs shoulder slowly, but his eyes were round and hurt as he gazed at Kai. He tried not to flinch. Lloyd didnât understand that this was for his own good.
Kai didnât really understand it, either.
The group filed into their room- the door locking with a sharp click behind them- and the others wandered off to do their own things. Jay flipped through the TV channels, not settling on anything for more than ten seconds, and Cole and Zane worked on a puzzle, although their progress was slow, and their heart didnât seem to really be into it.
Kai, however, made no time for pointless hobbies, and headed over to Nya.
âWe need to talk.â
âI agree. But not in here.â She pointed towards the bedroom door. âLetâs go somewhere more private.â
He followed her in, closing the door behind him, before heading to sit next to her on her bed. âWhatâs so important that the others canât hear?â
âItâs not that they canât hear it. Itâs just⊠I donât know if theyâll want to. I donât know how everyoneâs going to take it, and I think itâs best to not tell everyone all at once.â
âWhat?! Nya, youâre killing me, just tell me whatâs going on!â
âSomeone was following me.â
Kai froze. âWhat?â
âIf Iâm right, someone was following all of us.â
âYou mean in the city today? Like, a stalker or someone?â
âMore like a Borg employee.â
â...What?â
âTheyâre spying on us, Kai, donât you see? Dr. Borg sent some of our caretakers out to monitor us today. Itâs their own fault, really. If they hadnât trained me to use my detection skills to their full potential, I never wouldâve noticed them.â
âBut why? What have we done to break Dr. Borgâs trust? Weâve done this before and never got caught, why would today be any different?
Nya narrowed her eyes at him. âDonât be dense, Kai. Heâs been doing it since day one. Weâve just never noticed before.â
Kai was beginning to feel very uncomfortable with the turn this conversation was taking. âHow do you know that? Do you have proof?â
âProof!â Nya stood up suddenly, her eyes blazing so fiercely that Kai flinched back. âWhat about any given day over the last sixteen years of my life, or the eighteen of yours! Weâre prisoners here, Kai. One day a month outside of the tower doesnât change that, especially when weâre being monitored even then.â
âNya, donât get like this again. Dr. Borg saved our lives-â
âFrom what? He tells us that people want to kill us, but do we have any reason to believe thatâs true? What if heâs lying? How do you know heâs not just using us?â
âDr. Borg is the closest thing I have to family! I trust him. With people like that, you just know.â
Nyaâs ears pinned back, her voice wavering. âWhat happened to this family? True family is always there for you. Jay, Cole, Zane, Lloyd⊠me⊠weâve all done more for you than that old fool ever has.â
Kai flinched, immediately regretting his words. âWait, Nya, I didnât mean- of course youâre my family, Iâm sorry-â he snatched for her wrist as she began to walk away, but she easily dodged. She turned to look at him, her eyes sad.
âI know you are. You donât want to hurt anyone- youâre just doing what you think is right, and I get that. But come talk to me again when youâre ready to reconsider.â
---
The next day, Kai had fighting training with one of his trainers. She seemed to be working him especially hard, but he only worked harder, and when he stopped for a rest, it took a moment to calm the adrenaline rippling through his veins. He had always been much stronger than the average human, but⊠usually it wasnât so hard to control.
Dr. Borg showed up later in the lesson to pull him aside. âKai. Your trainer tells me you are doing well. This pleases me. You are growing stronger.â
âIâm trying my best, sir.â
âGood. I expect nothing less. Youâre eighteen now, Kai. Officially into adulthood. Soon, you will enter into a noble line of work I have to offer you. Now is no time to hold back. In fact- and keep this between you and me, if you will- I think you have the greatest potential of all your peers. What beast is greater than the lion? They donât call it the king of the jungle for no reason. Your strength will be unmatched.â
Kai felt like he was supposed to be pleased by that, but something about the words just felt wrong.
âSir,â he interrupted, feeling the sudden need to ask something, âWhat⊠why do I need to learn to fight like this? Who will I be fighting?â âIf all goes well, no one. But this is necessary to defend yourself. Like I have told you since you were a cub, the rest of the world wants to hunt you down. You deserve a way to fight for your life and honor- and for the⊠weaker members of your team, donât you?â
Kai nodded. âOf course. I was just wondering⊠is that all itâs for? Self-defence? Nothing more?â
Borg narrowed his eyes, but nodded slowly. âYou will only have to do what must be done.â
ââŠAlright. Thank you, sir.â âAnd Kai?â
âYes?â âIf Nyaâs been putting ideas in your head again, donât listen to her. I know she means well, but sheâs going through that natural âteenage rebellionâ stage right now, and isnât thinking straight. Just take my word for it, alright?â
âO-okay. Have a good evening, sir.â
âTrain hard!â
As Kai trodded back to the room that evening, he couldnât stop thinking about what Borg had said. His words had been so vague. And he had been so quick to accuse Nya! Did he mean what he said, or was Nya right?
Did Borg want to use him for something more?
He still didnât know what to believe, but one thing he knew was that he didnât like the way that his sister had immediately been blamed. She had always been the most reluctant to listen to Borg, the most upset about their situation, but he wasnât going to let Borg do anything to her, if thatâs where this was heading.
His thoughts were interrupted as the floor suddenly heaved beneath him, and Kai was knocked to his feet. He barely bit back a scream, his breath coming in shallow pants.
What was it? An earthquake? He had never felt an earthquake before. Oh gosh. Should he be doing something? Was he going to die?!
But as quickly as it happened, it was over, and Kai got to his feet, breathless. After he was sure the floor wasnât going to collapse beneath him, he set off towards the room in a dead sprint.
âGuys,â he gasped, âDid you feel that?â
Jay glanced up from his phone. âLike, that weird tremor thing, you mean?â
âTremor? It was way worse than a tremor, the ground, like, bounced beneath me!â He gave a demonstration of this with his hands, but the others just blinked at him, unimpressed. âWhat?â
Cole shrugged. âI dunno, maybe you were just closer to the source or something. It didnât seem that bad to us.â
âDo earthquakes even have sources?â
âFirst of all,â Zane said, âthey do, and second, Ninjago City doesnât get earthquakes. The geographic location makes it literally impossible.â
âBut you canât tell me that was nothing.â His voice wavered, and he caught Nya frown.
âYou serious about this, bro?â
âI dunno, itâs justâŠâ he put his head in his hands. âI donât know what happened. It frickinâ scared me.â
Nya rested a hand on his shoulder, at his side now. âHey, everythingâs okay now. Youâre safe here.â
âI know.â
âDo you want me to call Borg? Iâm sure he can tell us whatâs going on.â
âThanks.â
Nya dialed, and they waited for Borg to answer. He didnât pick up until the last ring, which was unusual for him. When his voice did come through, it was harried and distracted.
âWhat is it, Nya?â
âDr. Borg, Kai was just coming back from training and he felt this weird⊠earthquake-type-tremor thing. We were just worried. Is everything alright?â
âOh? Ah, yes, donât worry, youâre perfectly safe-'' there was some muffled yelling in the background, and the phone went quiet for a minute. âThereâs nothing to worry about, weâve got it under control-â
âBut what was it?â
âWeâre⊠uh, still investigating. Maybe some sort of malfunction in the machinery, or radiation leak or something.â
âRadiation?â
âI assure you dear, itâs fine, weâve got a whole crew on top of it. Now, if youâll excuse me, Iâm kind of in the middle of something-â
âWhat about Lloyd?â Kai asked, leaning over to speak into the phone. âIs he okay?â
âLloyd⊠Lloydâs fine.â
âCan we see him?â
âNo,â Borg said quickly. â...heâs seeing people right now. Will be for a while, probably, so donât even ask.â
By this time, the others had joined them at the phone too, and they all looked at each other at that. âSeeing people?â Nya asked. âWhat kind of people?â
âJust⊠double-checking his safety. For⊠the radiation.â
âWas he close to it?â Nya gasped. âI thought you said he was safe!â
âHe is! Itâs just a precaution-â
âThen when can we see him?â
âNya, I told you, not now!â Another muffled shout interrupted him. âI have a lot bigger fish to fry right now, this conversation will have to continue later.â And, with that, he abruptly hung up.
âWhat was that,â Nya spat.
âIf that was your attempt to make me feel better, it failed miserably.â
âI didnât know he was going to be like that, did I? Ugh, Borg always is so vague, but this- this is a whole new level!â
âWe need to find out more,â Zane said. âBorg isnât giving us clear answers. We need another way to find out information.â
âLuckily for us,â Cole added, âIt seems that in all the commotion, they never sent a caretaker down to lock the door after Kai returned.â
The others froze, staring at each other. Slowly, they turned their gazes to the door.
Cole was right. It was still open.
Kai immediately felt his heart begin to race. He didnât know how to react. This had never happened before.
Zane was the first to snap out of the shock and into action. âBorg is a careful man. It wonât be long before he realizes we have free reign of the place. If weâre going to do something, we need to act quickly.â
âI say we escape,â Nya hissed. âThis might never happen again. Kaiâs the only one who knows this, but I saw Borg employees following us yesterday. Heâs always watching. This could be our only chance to get out of here!â
There were a few uneasy looks at that. âNya,â Zane warned, âBorg may be secretive, but heâs not a bad person. Heâs protecting us.â
âYeah, and what about the police?â Jay whimpered, his tail between his legs. âBorg told us they would kill us just for being different.â
Nyaâs tail lashed. âYou all are hopeless! The old foolâs got you all wrapped around his little finger! Canât you see weâre prisoners here? Iâd rather take my chances with the police.â
âNya,â Cole said firmly, squeezing Jayâs hand, âYouâre making Jay nervous.â
âIâm sorry, Jay, but itâs the truth. Youâre seventeen now, itâs about time you start hearing it.â
Jayâs ears quivered. âItâs okay, Cole, sheâs right.â
Cole grunted. âIf weâre doing this, I wonât let no police lay a finger on you.â
âSo youâll do it?â
âI dunno. Iâve never really felt comfortable with Borg. But weâre also safe here. I want to protect you guys. I donât know if freedom is worth the risk.â
âWell, we donât have time to think about it. Zaneâs right- if we have to act, we act now. Iâm going- come or donât.â
âNya, come back,â Cole growled. âWeâre a family. Whatever we do, we do together. I donât want us splitting up.â
âThen do the right thing and come with me.â
The tension crackled between the two for a moment, until Cole ducked his head. âNya-â
âKai, youâll come with me, wonât you?â
Four pairs of eyes turned towards him. Kaiâs tail twitched, and he tried desperately to still it.
âI⊠I donât know what I want to do, Nya. But Iâm not leaving without Lloyd.â
Guilt flashed in her eyes. âI⊠I didnât mean⊠of course I would never leave without him, I just didnât even think⊠we can go get him, right?â
âDo you know where he is?â
Nyaâs tail drooped. âThen what do we do?â
âZaneâs right- what we need is more information. Running away isnât the answer.â
âKai- can you just think about it-â
âIâve been thinking about it,â he roared. âIâve spent eighteen long years locked away in this room- donât you think I want to leave, too? But this is about more than just me- this is about us. I have a family to protect, Nya, and this is the best way to keep them safe.â
Nya cringed back from him- something any sane person would do when a lion- or a half lion- was yelling in your face. He didnât like to use it on his family often, but when he did, it was the quickest way to silence a room. Everyone knew you didnât mess with a lionâs roar.
âSo what are you going to do instead?â Jay asked quietly, after a moment.
âIâm going to go find Borg and listen in on what heâs doing.â Turning to his sister, he added, âNya? Will you come with me? Your stealth will be useful.â
âYou still want me?â
âDonât be like that, Nya- Iâm just doing whatâs best for us. You get that, donât you?â
âI guess.â
âSo youâre not coming?â
âNo, Iâll come. Iâm just still upset with you, thatâs all.â
Kai sighed as she whisked out the door past him. âYou guys keep a lookout, alright? Iâll have my phone on silent so we donât get caught, but Iâll be able to feel it vibrate, so shoot me a text if something happens, alright?â
âGood luck,â Zane nodded.
âHurry back!â Jay called as Kai slipped into the hallway.
He bounded a little ways to catch up with Nya. They walked in silence for a little while until they made it back to Kaiâs training room, where he had felt the tremor.
âSmell anything?â Nya asked.
âJayâs the best tracker, but I think I can pick up Borgâs scent coming from that way.â He pointed a finger down the right hallway.
âThink?â âI donât know. Thereâs a lot of foot traffic coming from that way as well.â
âSurely thatâs a good sign. If there was some sort of catastrophe, a lot of people would have gone to help.â
âYeah, but itâs strange. It mostly smells like caretakers and trainers. I wouldâve thought Borg wouldâve wanted more mechanics and doctors if there was a malfunction.â
âUnless he was trying to keep this a secret.â
Kai shot her a look, and she ducked his gaze. âSorry.â
Kai shook his head, turning back towards the trail, letting Nya slink down the hallways ahead of him, checking that the coast was clear before he followed. He pointed her in the directions that the scent led, until, at last, it led to a door.
âBorgâs office?â Nya questioned. âHis scent will be here all the time. Are you sure that heâs here now, or is it just leftover residue?â
Kai opened his mouth to respond, but froze when he caught the sound of footsteps. âHide!â he hissed to Nya, and the two of them dove into an empty lab room and pulled the door shut, just as two pairs of footsteps rounded the corner. They came to a halt outside the office door, and Kai held his breath.
âWhat do you mean you canât control him, thatâs your job!â Borgâs voice, sharp and angry. The rooms in this part of the building were soundproofed, but Kaiâs hearing could still detect their voices when he pushed his ear to the door. Nya hovered beside him anxiously, watching his face for signs.
âSir, weâre doing everything we can, but weâve never worked with a specimen like this before.â
âBorg,â he whispered to Nya, âand a researcher.â
âTell me you at least have him contained?â
âHeâs chained and isolated right now, sir. And under guard.â
âDid you tell him that weâd punish the others if he stepped out of line?â
âYes, sir. Heâs young, and seems to have some literacy issues, so weâre not sure if he got the entire message, but we believe we got the basic point across.â
âGood,â Borg sighed. âHopefully that will be enough to stop him from trying anything like this again.â
âSir, surely youâre not just going to let him stay. People couldâve died today!â
âDo you think I donât know that?â Borg snapped. âSeven of my best researchers have been hospitalized, and now the damn police are on our back and I could get sued. I could lose millions, you know that? And to make things worse, the kids called me and are trying to see him. They suspect somethingâs wrong.â
Kaiâs blood was roaring in his ears. Was he hearing this right?
Nya put a hand on his shoulder. âWhatâs wrong? What did they say?â
He shook his head, gesturing at her to be quiet. âThey think Lloyd was the one responsible for the accident. People were hurt. Borg might get sued.â
âWould it really be such a bad thing to let him see them, sir? He obviously is very on edge about the testing and sampling. Seeing the others might put him at ease.â
âTheyâre already suspicious, and I canât help but feel Iâm losing my grip on them. Theyâre teenagers, I knew theyâd rebel at some point, but⊠I donât want to risk him telling them anything. Now that he has power over us, Iâm not sure what good the threats will do.â
âThen what are we going to do?â
Borg sighed, slow and tired. âI had hoped it would never come to this, but⊠I think we bit off more than we could chew with this one. And heâs only four, it will only get worse as he ages. I donât think we will ever be able to put a handle on him. I had hope, after such great success with the others, but⊠it just didnât work out. Breeding oni and dragon and trying to contain it was always going to be a bad idea.â
âAre you sure, sir? Thereâs no going back if you decide to go through with it.â
âIâve thought about it for a while now, and todayâs accident has only solidified my suspicions. We will still be fine. The others have amazing amounts of strength, speed, stealth, and heightened senses. We can be well-equipped without him.â
âAlright. We will begin making preparations first thing, sir.â
âMake sure you keep the body so we can continue to study it. I want him euthanized first thing in the morning. The longer we wait, the more of a window we give him to act up again.â
No. No, no, no, no, no. Kai squeezed his eyes shut, slumping against the door as the door to Borgâs office was clicked shut. This couldnât be happening, it was just some sort of sick dream, Borg would never do this-
âKai, Kai please, answer me!â
He opened his eyes to see Nya shaking him gently.
âYou were right,â he croaked, âwe have to go.â
âKai, whatâs wrong, what did you hear, youâre scaring me.â
Kai stumbled to his feet, and Nya grabbed his arm as he trembled. There was no time to sit around and mope. Lloydâs life was on the line.
âNya, we have to go-â he reached for the doorknob and began to twist it.
âWait, are you sure theyâre gone, we canât get caught-â
âIâm sure, we have to hurry-â
Nya skidded in front of him. âKai, tell me whatâs going on. I need to know what happend. I can help!â
âThereâs no time, Nya,â he gasped, half in tears by this point. âIâll tell you later. Iâm going after Lloyd. You go and get the others. Meet me near that little diner at the edge of the city. The one we went to for your birthday last year, you know the one? Weâre leaving. Now.â
âWait, you mean you changed your mind?â
âNo. I told you that I was going to do whatever it took to keep you guys safe. Before, that meant staying here. Now, it means leaving. It is the circumstance that has changed, not me.â
Nya gazed at him, tears glazing her eyes. âI wish you would tell me more.â
âI still need time to process. Iâm sorry.â
âI get it. Just stay safe, okay?â She kissed him softly on the cheek, and then, she was gone.
Kai didnât waste any time, and set right off on the researcherâs trail. Eventually, it led him to a small, closed off wing, where she had then taken a right, but Kai was more interested in the room on the left.
Two guards, armed with guns, stood attentive at it. Kai shifted into a lion, and, trying to remember stalking lessons from Nya, crept along the hallway. If they spotted him before he was within pouncing distance, he was done for. They wouldnât hesitate with the guns, he was sure.
Luckily, Nya was an amazing teacher, and as one guard fell to the ground with a smack, the other one turned sharply, raising his gun, but Kai was already pouncing, knocking him out.
Shifting back into himself, he grabbed the keys from the guardâs pocket, and unlocked the door.
Inside, the lights were dim. Kai wished he had Nyaâs night vision right about now.
When his eyes finally adjusted, Kai choked back a gasp. Lloyd was lying on the floor, chains bolted around his wrists, ankles, and tail. Metal clamps pulled back his wings, and a muzzle had been tied over his mouth.
âOh my gosh, Lloyd-â Kai dropped to his side, trying not to look at the boyâs face. Blinking back tears- emotion was something they didnât have time for right now- Kai ripped through the chains and pulled off the muzzle and clamps. Lloyd whimpered, looking up at him with watery red eyes, and reached for him, cooing softly. Kai scooped the boy into his arms, accidentally pulling back his shirt as he did so, and revealing a long, raw, red scar along his side. Kai quickly pulled the shirt back down, looking away, and planted a kiss on his forehead. Bolting to his feet, he took off down the hall, towards the back door.
After only a minute of running, an alarm began to flash, and Kai swore under his breath, praying that the others were already out.
After what felt like far too long, he spotted the door. As he sprinted for it, he heard someone yell out behind him, but it was too late. He was already out the door.
He didnât stop though. He wasnât stupid enough to think they would give up chase so easily. Heading down some of the back alleys, he ran in a crisscross of crazy patterns, taking a way which was five times longer and more complicated than necessary, but he wasnât risking the chance of being caught, or worse, leading the Borg employees back to Nya and the others.
When he began to feel a little safer, he stopped for a rest behind a dumpster. Setting Lloyd down, he checked his phone and saw he had twenty-seven missed calls from Borg.
Shoot, he can probably track this. Cursing under his breath, he tossed the phone in the dumpster. He didnât like being phoneless, but it was a thousand times better than the alternative.
Lloydâs stomach growled loudly, and Kai glanced down at him. The boy looked smaller than ever, his red eyes wide and scared. Kai crouched down, pulling his trembling form close, and the two just sat there for a moment, silent. Kai breathed in Lloydâs comforting scent.
I almost lost this. Forever.
Kai wiped at his eyes. But he hadnât. And they werenât safe yet. They had to keep moving, and get as far away from that phone as possible.
But first, he had to find the poor kid something to eat. He looked half-dead on his feet, and Kai felt a surge of anger as he realized that Borg probably hadnât been feeding him well.
Jumping into the dumpster, Kai scrounged around until he was able to find half of a cheeseburger and a stale bag of pretzels. Not the most sanitary, but it would have to do.
âHere, bud, you want these?â He handed the food to Lloyd, and either the boy was really, really hungry, or his animal instincts were just kicking in, because he scarfed down the food without any reservation about the fact that Kai had literally dumpster dove for it.
As Lloyd finished the food, licking the wrapper, he spoke for the first time since Kai had found him chained up that evening.
âAm I in trouble?â His voice wavered, tears pricking his eyes. âDid I do a bad thing?â
âHoney, no, itâs not your fault,â Kai whispered, pulling him close. âYou didnât mean to do it. Your powers are too strong for your own good. But youâll learn to control them eventually, I promise.â
âPeople are hurt,â he whispered. âIâm the reason we had to go.â
âYou just opened my eyes to what Borg was doing to you. To his true intentions. Why didnât you tell me sooner?â
Lloyd looked at him. âHe told me he would kill you.â
Kai bit his lip, and Lloyd broke down crying in his lap. Kai curled his arms protectively around him.
âIâm so sorry. Iâm so sorry I let you go through that all these years and didnât notice something was wrong.â
Lloyd buried his face in Kaiâs shirt. âI just want to be normal.â
---
Lloyd fell asleep soon after that, and Kai carried him towards the meeting place. The walk was long, about two hours, but with every moment that passed, Kai was more and more grateful that he had picked somewhere far away. He was exhausted, and if Borgâs associates found him now, he was in no position to fight back.
It felt like heaven when he finally spotted the little diner in the distance, with its gleaming lights offering a cheery glow to the foreboding dusk. Reluctantly shaking Lloyd awake, he took off his hat and coat and helped Lloyd put them on to carefully mask his monster features. Since Kai hadnât had time to grab extra, he fluffed up his hair extra (something he hadnât ever thought heâd do, it was fluffy enough as-is) to cover his ears, and tucked his tail into his pants.
The little bell on the diner door rang cheerily as they pushed their way in. At this time of night, the diner was empty, as expected- but there was one booth in the corner where four people were sitting, eating what looked to be pancakes and bacon. They looked up sharply as the bell rung, and Nya stood up abruptly, meeting his eye.
âKai,â she cried, running over to him as tears sprung in her eyes. âOh my goodness, oh my spots, oh my goodness.â She threw her arms around his neck, crying into his shoulder as he squeezed her just as tightly back. âYouâre alive, thank the stars youâre alive, I thought I had lost you for good.â
âIâm just as relieved to see you guys,â Kai breathed, walking over to the booth. Although it was only intended to seat four, his friends squished over to make room for him, and he scooped Lloyd onto his lap.
âKai, what took you so long, you had me worried out of my mind,â Nya muttered, stopping to take a breath and sip from her coffee. âDonât ever scare me like that again.â
âSorry, we got a little held up. We got caught escaping, and were followed. I spent a good hour, at least, trying to throw them. I wasnât going to risk leading them anywhere.â
âYou couldâve at least texted me, letting me know you were alright. Why didnât you answer any of my calls?â
âI ditched my phone. Speaking of which, you guys probably should too. I wouldnât be surprised if Borg had a way to track these things.â
âGet rid of our phones?â Jay whimpered. âHow are we going to communicate if thereâs an emergency?â
âWould you rather us get caught?â Kai snapped. âWe can just buy some of those burner phones from the store.â
âKai, I think you owe us an explanation,â Cole growled. âWeâre tired, hungry, scared, and donât know why weâre here. Nya told us you overheard Borg saying something, but wouldnât tell her what he said, and just said to run. Are you going to give us any more than that?â
âIâm sorry, but I was just so scared, and there was no timeâŠâ He took a shaky breath, drawing an arm around Lloyd and pulling him closer. In a whisper, he admitted, âBorg was going to kill Lloyd.â
The table lapsed into a stunned silence. Even Nya, who had always been heavily critical and suspicious of Borg, looked shocked and horrified.
âWhen?â Zane asked faintly.
âTomorrow morning.â
Cole paled about ten shades, Jay looked like he was going to faint, and Zane just stared as if he didnât believe what he was hearing.
âOne more day,â Nya whispered. âOne more day and we wouldâve lost him.â
âDonât remind me,â Kai told her, his breath hitching as he tried to focus on the weight on his lap- warm, gentle, and alive. He was here. He had saved him.
âI donât understand,â Jay whined. âWhy would he do such a thing? I mean, I know we all had our suspicions, but⊠kill him? Really? What changed?â
âRemember all those âdoctorâs visits?â Apparently theyâre some sort of testing, or sampling, or something. Show them the scar, Lloyd.â
The boy looked up at him hesitantly, before slowly pulling up his jacket and shirt to reveal the long scar Kai had seen earlier. Four sharp intakes of breath sounded as it came into view.
âOh, Lloyd, honey,â Nya whispered.
âI wouldnât be surprised if thatâs what they were doing at our doctorâs appointments, too, but for some reason they are really obsessed with Lloyd. Something about his lineage, I guess⊠but it was too much for him. HeâŠâ
Kai glanced at Lloyd, who was nibbling at the bacon Cole had slipped him. He didnât seem too invested in the conversation, but he still kept his voice low.
âThat tremor we felt? Apparently, Lloyd caused it. People were injured, and⊠the police came to investigate⊠Borg was furious. He decided Lloyd had caused more trouble than he was worth. Lloyd was chained and muzzled when I found him, and I⊠I couldnât⊠I wouldnât deny it any longer. Borg doesnât care about us. He never has. Heâs just using us.â
Silence gripped the table as his friends stared at him. Jay wiped at his eyes, which were bright and wet.
âWhat do we do now, Kai?â Nya asked, her voice barely audible.
âWhat do we do? We survive. You got some money, I hope?â
âWeâve been stashing it. Any time Borg gave us money on an outing that we didnât use, we kept it. We brought everything we could find. And a few valuable items as well. We can sell them if we need to. Hopefully this will last us a while, if we stick to the necessities.â
âGood. Because weâre going to need every penny we can get. I have no idea how long weâll have to be out here.â
âAs long as Borg is hunting us, nowhere is safe,â Cole warned. âHeâs got amasses of people at his disposal. I donât know where weâre going to go that he canât reach.â
âI know a place.â
---
âAre w-we al-almost there, K-k-kai,â Nya hissed, her teeth chattering. âIâm freezing.â
âWeâre here.â
Jay stopped beside him. âAn old warehouse?â âHey, I remember this place,â Cole said, stepping up beside him. Lloyd was fast asleep in his arms- he had been out cold before they had even left the diner, and when Kai had tried to carry him, Cole had told him off, saying he had already done more than his fair share for the night, and that he ought to give someone else a turn before he keeled over from exhaustion. Kai was grateful for the gesture, although they still had needed to walk another hour to get to his destination.
âWhen we were younger, Cole and I used to take a bus down here sometimes on our days out to play around in this abandoned warehouse.â Jay raised his eyebrow, and Cole laughed. âWhen youâre a twelve year old boy, those kinds of things sound a lot cooler than they actually are. Still, Iâm grateful you thought of it now. Who wouldâve thought, when everyone else failed us, itâs the old warehouse that held through.â
âItâs nothing special,â Kai said as they tramped inside, âbut itâs sheltered, itâs sturdy, and, most important of all, itâs unsuspecting. I doubt Borg would ever think to look here.â
âItâs perfect, Kai,â Nya sniffed, âThank you.â
âI donât know why youâre thanking me,â Kai sighed, lowering himself onto the ground and wincing at the ache in his back. âI was the one who kept trying to convince you that the child-murdering psychopath actually cared about us.â
âItâs not your fault, Kai. Borg tricked all of us. If it werenât for your jump into action, weâd have lost our baby brother.â
âI just canât stop thinking,â he whimpered, squeezing Nyaâs hand tighter, and watching Lloyd from where Cole cradled him across the room, stroking him gently, âwhat would have happened if I hadnât gotten there in time, or if I had decided to stay back in our room.â
âYou canât spend time dwelling on the past, Kai. You didnât do those things, and everything worked out- well, as best as we could ask for, at least. You have to have more faith in yourself. Weâre scared and confused, and weâre looking to you. I know thatâs not fair, that youâre struggling just as much as any of us, but itâs the way things are. We need someone strong, like you, to keep us going.â
âI want to protect you guys, and keep you safe, more than anything else in the world. But Iâm lost. I donât know what to do, and I canât do this alone.â
âOh, Kai. No one would ever ask you to do anything alone. Whatever happens next, weâre all right here.â
