#THE CHALICE OF THE GODS

i don't know WHAT to feel about some of the opinions on the chalice of the gods and the wrath of the triple goddess that i've seen on here, but personally, i absolutely LOVE our new books. why? because ANNABETH CHASE.

iin the earlier books, annabeth didn't have the chance to goof off at ALL. she was head counsellor of the athena cabin at TWELVE years old, she'd gone through unspeakable trauma, the people she loved were dying around her, and on top of all THAT, she was EXPECTED to hold herself together, because she was THE daughter of athena. the one that had to have all the plans.

which is why, in the chalice of the gods, i'm just so happy that she finally found her happy place.

because now, she has PLANS, this time not for others, but for HERSELF. plans for what SHE wants to do with HER future. she's at a great school doing something she's incredibly passionate about, she FINALLY has her boyfriend all to herself, and she's completely free of any worry that some sneaky goddess will swipe him away from her again, because the worst is OVER now.

now, we can watch annabeth blossom in the arms of FREEDOM from such responsibility, and SEE her goof around to her heart's content: dueting on 'shallow' with percy, hosting her very FIRST halloween party, sneaking into percy's bedroom just for the FUN of it, and just generally being the sweet goof she never got to be as a kid.

because annabeth chase is NOT boring and she is NOT a killjoy, and people need to STOP portraying her as such because she is the sweetest and most AMAZING character in the whole series.

percy: what? no of course not. in fact i haven’t even seen her today since i’ve been studying so much, like you suggested, so we don’t distract each other. we are both totally responsible adults.

sally: aw good! i’m glad to hear it. so quick question, which of your textbooks is responsible for the golden blonde hair i see by your shoulder?

percy, side-eyeing the strands of hair as they slowly get pulled away:

sally: *giving him the mom eye*

percy: having girlfriend time and cuddling is just as important as reading textbooks

annabeth, appearing from her hiding place under the covers: seaweed brain! why didn’t you just say we were studying together?

percy: …that, would have been the more logical thing to say, wouldn’t it?

sally: you know sometimes it really shocks me that you two are still alive

Rick Riordan and Nora Sakavic are my two favorite authors, and it's so funny because Rick will have a bajillion amazing books out and then be like:

Rick: Hey guys, I thought of some new adventure for the characters to go on, and it seemed fun, so I'm writing three more books!

And then Nora will be MIA for years, only to one day out of the blue be like:

Nora: Hey guys. Jean's ghost wouldn't stop haunting me until I told his story, so you're getting another book.

Nora, later: Hey guys, bad news. The one book has turned into two books, but it'll ONLY be TWO I'm serious.

Nora, even later, months after book 1: Ok guys. Book two at the end of the year. Don't ask about book three's release date, or else I'll literally combust.

It's so funny because we have so much content from Rick, and he just keeps providing us with more because he's just having fun (and we absolutely love it). Meanwhile, while the story is obviously important and means a lot to Nora, she makes it seem like it's getting dragged out of the depths of her soul, and it keeps getting longer against her will.

The dichotomy is hilarious, and I absolutely love them both.
